President Obama’s arrival:
The official White House video:
Here’s the C-Span version:
Enhanced White House version:
I’m relatively new here, but I do not understand the “Stickey” concept.
Can you help me to understand who or what that is please?
Hi Barbara, a sticky post is one that is ‘stuck’ to the top of the blog, above every other post, until it’s un-stickied! It’s usually done on sites to highlight a post that will be updated frequently, like this one for tomorrow’s State of the Union address.
Welcome Barbara. We all love this diary. Chipsticks is a hero.
Hi chipstick! i will make sure a stop by you and BWD tomarrow. Welcome Barbara great group of people.
I’m so excited to see the SOTU tomorrow. Great guests coming as the First Lady’s guests. Will have to watch my speed driving home to catch this on time…
I love the look of the pic above. It gives such majestic qualities to such a historic building. I, too, am looking forward to the SOTU address.
Looking forward to tonight. I have all my snacks ready :)
Snacks is a good idea….I have my energy drink already placed next to the TV, because I have to wait until 3 am to see it. Won’t miss it though! Really looking forward to it.
I was channel surfing last night and I slowed down while going past the cable news channel. Of course they were discussing what Obama should say and Paul Begala was basically criticizing the speech before he actually hears it. He said, ‘I want to hear these words and if I hear the word ‘competitiveness’ I’m going to throw up’ – OH SHUT UP! Then saw a few seconds of Ed Schultz yapping about giving away stuff before you start negotiating – ALSO, Please SHUT IT! Obama has proven enough times that he is more competent than the paid pundits.
I really hate these “what he should say” articles. It sets up expectations and then people focus less on what was actually said and instead grade the speech on the guidelines they set beforehand. They also forget that Obama is speaking to America not the pundits.
What in the world Paul Begala is doing ? I’ve liked him in the past. He usually provides interesting commentary with good humor and he’s good at pushing back on the republican talking points. But can somebody tell me what he’s doing stabbing a democratic president in the back ?? What the HELL is going on inside the democratic party if one of its most known figures on tv can’t even have the president’s back ???!!!!!
Oh and I totally agree with the setting up of expectations and grading the speech based on it. Inevitable unfortunately. Not easy for the WH to control the narrative here.
Reading these posts, I can’t help but get my sensitivities all in a knot. To be blunt, these asses, still, are treating this president like a servant……there, I’ve said it. Chris Matthews treats him like one who must pass the “white president test”…constantly comparing him to Reagan and Clinton. President Obama is neither; he is who he is. If you look back on any of his old clips, as Chipsticks has so wonderfully done here, you hear the same messages then as we do now. He is a fabulous president in his own right, and no one tells him what to say, so as these assholes continue their diatribes on what the “negro” man should say, we need to send them a clear message of no tolerance in the minimizing of President Obama’s capabilities. The fight has been on since November 2, 2010. I can’t remember any of them presuming what other presidents needed to say to the American public. Why is President Obama still the “other”?
I agree with every word of your comment. They talk about President Obama as if he is still campaigning back in 2008. Remember, even back then he was the only one acting presidential during the financial crisis. For the last two years, he has been cleaning up the wreckage of the Bush administration plus dealing with crisis after crisis and he has handled himself with aplomb. He has consistently displayed steady, pragmatic, intelligent leadership. He is the epitome of class and grace. I can’t imagine anyone else leading this country right now.
The question the talking heads should be asking themselves is how would Tim Pawlenty, Newt Gingrich, John McCain, Mitt Romney or any of the other unhinged GOP presidential candidates have handled things the last two years. Where would we be now???
President Obama runs rings around all of them and there in lies the problem. The media, the Republicans and yes some on the left just don’t want to give this man is due. For the media, they want to set the narrative, the GOP just wants him to fail at all costs, and the frustrati on the left want him to dance to their tune or else.
At the very core, because he is African American, and the fact that everyday he establishes a new precedent for excellence in leadership. Pity the poor soul that follows him, as he is redefining Presidental standards. Everyday he is in office the tides of Change are turning, and the grip of the status quo is increasingly weakening.
When my 82 year old uncle and 74 year old aunt, good, decent hardworking people that have lived their lives in rural communties, and essentially have lived culturally segregated lives, recognize in aghast, the unfairness and disrespect layered on this President by our media…..my own instincts are confirmed. What makes me really sad is that I don’t believe for the most part it is,overtly intentional, making our national issues of racism and inequality more insidious and systemic, easier to ignore and harder to change. And yet I do believe that there are those who wield the levers of power and influence that are fully aware of these dynamics and are subversively using them to their advantage. In light of what I believe to be President Obama’s outstanding leadership, when you consider fully, the depth of our problems as a country, and those who at every turn are trying to undermine him, I essentially consider him a miracle worker. He may not be our last, but at this time he is our best Hope.
I am so excited about this evenings STOU, I absolutely trust that our President will deliver. And I will remind myself that his foes, although eager to stir up the “shit” will only, in the end, end up “wearing” it. So to our President and all who love and support him, like this wonderful community, Live Long and Stay Strong. Because Yes We Can.
Great comment. I feel the same. No matter how much the President accomplishes, it is never enough. It is as if the demands keep escalating. He gets something done, everyone, well, not everyone, says great, but now you to do something ever better to qualify as a good president.
The ever escalating demands put upon this President are ridiculous. I totally agree with you on the statement that PBO is treated like a servant. It is very difficult not to look at it in terms of race.
Actually, their general up-the-ante reaction tie in with what Blacks have noted is the reality – Blacks have to be BETTER at any given activity in order to be considered seriously. And even when they win the position their performance is constantly being graded unfairly/unfavourably. This President is showing that ‘reality’ to the world. Even pundits , activists, politicians supposedly on his side can’t seem to help themselves. You have no idea how many times liberal like Rep. Wiener and Rachel Maddow have ticked me off. I have never been as aware of a president’s commitment in my lifetime as I am of this one’s, and I find it hard to accept that the majority cannot, or have not, seen this. It’s hard to think of any current politician, liberal or democratic, who can do a better job in the circumstances. I wonder if they’ll apologize in retrospect (after 2016) when they realize that the next President doesn’t measure up?
Paul Begala and James Carville have really been the biggest saboteurs and undermining agents working against President Obama!!!
They have both been a huge reason why I detest the Clintons and will never trust them, because I know that Begala and Carville work for them. The Clintons could very easily rein them both in and the fact that they won’t is very telling!!!
I’m logged on to Whitehouse.gov waiting for the President’s SOTU speech and how thrilling to see the recap of activities of this phenomenal President and White House!!!
Hi Eleroy, I’m logged in too, anxious, my stomach is in a knot…..I wish I could relax, but will soon enough as the President always has a calming/inspiring effect on me. Despite my nerves, I know he will do us proud.
Hang in there Sue, you’ll be calmed VERY soon! :-)
Begala, Schultz, and the others have the luxury of making statements and not having to deal with the fallout. They’ll keep on talking about what the president “should” do without fully considering the political climate in the country at the present time. Should the president take their advice and receive a lot of negative feedback, they’ll join with his critics to condemn him, too. They have already proven themselves to be very, very, very fickle, so I don’t pay any attention to their suggestions. I think the president will focus on things that bind us together instead of attacking the republicans for what they haven’t done. For our country to be prosperous in the future, we have to prepare now, and one way to do it is to invest in education to bolster our competitiveness. It seems as if neither Begala nor Schultz have thought about the fact that very few products are manufactured in America any more. PBO wants to develop policies that re-ignite the drive to begin manufacturing products in America again. IMHO, it’s a better strategy because it focuses on his vision for the country and provides little red meat for Ryan, Pox, and rw media to chew on and use to further divide the country.
Paul Begala is an idiot if the word “competitiveness” makes him ill – especially when America is falling behind developing countries in terms of preparedness and test scores, the Rpublicans want to shut down the Department of Education, and people don’t understand the connection between trade agreements with India and China and creating jobs here in the US.
They are all idiots!!! President Obama proves over and over he’s smarter than any pundit or other politician and they just can’t stand it. So they just keep pushing “their” idiotic standards on him. Matthews had the nerve to say that unemployment has to be 8 percent in order for PBO to be re-elected. Says who, idiot?
Meanwhile, they let the republicans lie, present no plans, obstruct at every turn, be racists, be stupid (Bachmann’s crazy comments about slavery made me barf.) and they don’t call themout.
I can’t stand them.
And tonight, again, the president will make all the loud mouth know-it-alls look like fools.
That’s what I keep asking. If the economy isn’t at 8% – or whatever measure they decide is the new bar, and President Obama isn’t re-elected, then which wizard of the economy do they plan to bring forward to solve this unsolvable problem? If there was someone else with good ideas out there who wasn’t being listened to, then I could undertand that “if, then” logic, but as it is, the best person is already in the job. If he can’t make the economy recover faster, then it’s unlikely that anyone else can. I’d rather stick with President Obama, who appears to be the smartest guy in the room.
After the speech in Tucson, Gergen and Begala started crying about how this is not a game changer and it was long and blah blah, yet there goes the polls ….northbound
I discounted CNN a long time ago, especially Gergen and Begala, because they spend their days talking and not doing.
I’m with you Temp. And then the talking heads have to tell us what he said as if we can’t figure it out for ourselves. I’m not going to watch either the pre or post gabbers!
Cant wait either. Esther, you made me lol at the pre or post gabbers, thats exactly who they are. And the nerve of them also trying to tell or interprete for us what he said like we are too damn to figure it out ourselves. Yikes, these talking heads are soo full of themselves. Oh, pleeeze, shut up already.
Cool! It’s a date then. :-) Can’t wait. Wouldn’t want to watch this with anybody but you guys. You’re all the best. :)
I love the White House interactive SOTU page. Good job. http://www.whitehouse.gov/state-of-the-union-2011
Oh and this little clip about the making of the SOTU speech is interesting too. I had no idea the speaker of the house has to send a invite to potus to make the speech.
I love the look of the interactive page at whitehouse.gov. I went through some of the pre-address material, but am (embarrassingly) confused as to how to get the address itself. I’m sure it will become apparent when the time comes!
I am excited! I don’t mind the senseless chatter because our president will show them up tonight!
Okeyyyyyy I took off work today to host a aparty for tonight’s SOTU. I invited 8 republicans,7 independents and 4 truly PBO’s supporters. Wish me luck,i will update you on if I converted One republican and one independent to our side. In the gift bag I wrote a note thanking them for attending tonight and at the end I put chipsticks blog’s link and BWD blog too. Hope they come on here and check it out. Let’s go change the world.
Awesome, Me4obama! You are being the change. Love that. Best of luck with the party. Can’t wait to hear how it went. :)
Ah, thank you Me4Obama! Have a great party, hope you’re all friends at the end :-)
Good work! I like your effort here! Great idea!
Wow, what a fantastic idea. I hope you are able to have some truly inspired and informative discussions.
Best wishes for a harmonious and productive session! I truly like your ratio of invitees. To me it reaffirms your confidence in POTUS (only need a 1 to 2 scenario point out facts ;))
I agree CTGirl. Since when have these endless chatters out smarted the President. What will be telling is if they own up to their misspoken words tomorrow. I doubt it.
Me4obama…..How exciting. Can’t wait to hear your opinion after the party. Great…we need to spread Chipsticks and BWD around the country. We have to come here to see the truth……will never get it on TV.
I’m not sure what’s going on with the bandwidth. On my computer the bandwidth of this site is condensed and the banner at the top is just red.
Yikes!!! No problems at my end, is anyone else having the same trouble??
No problems here Chipsticks. donna, try turning off your computer and restarting it. When I have a problem, that often helps me.
Thanks Barb. Donna, now that I think of it I had a problem like that last week, the blog looked pretty much as you described. I had to restart my browser a few times before it came right, I hope that does the trick for you too.
I’ve tried restarting the browser to no avail.
And it’s weird because it’s only happening with this site.
I hope it comes back to normal for me eventually.
At least I can still see the videos and pictures and read the comments.
Enjoy the speech everyone!
Sorry you’re having trouble Donna, I’m just not clued-up enough about these techy things to be able to help, but if the problem continues I’ll definitely get in touch with WordPress support to see if they can figure it out for me. So long as you can see and hear the President tonight, that’s the main thing ;-)
None here, but sometimes the site does take a while to load.
Thanks Hachikō, it takes a while to load for me sometimes too, I’m guessing it’s because of all those photos. Sometimes it’s fine, though – a very, very moody blog!
Spoiler alert! :-) Some early excerpts from the speech here:
Prior to the STOU the white house is featuring videos from the past two years.
My dear friends I would like to update u on how my SOTU watch party is going. First of all we exchanged political gifts. I gave away obama’s children’s book to all my invitees since some of them have young children, nieces and nephews. And in return I god all kinds of Obama merchandise to add on my hugely obsessive collection as my family calls it. Then came the shock of my life. Pleaseeee some of u might have a heart attack so sit down becoz I almost did. One of my republican guest gave me a copy of Palin’s book and another one gave me bill oreilly and glen beck books. U should have seen a look on my face. So I need your advise I have a rule I don’t burn books nor throw them away. But I can’t bring my self letting them land in any human being hand to read them sorry they are Toxic. And then we where talking and one actually said he just became a fan of PBO after the tuscon speech before he would turn off the TV every time PBO came on. Imagine how I felt. But tonight he is looking forward to listening to the speech. I think change takes long but tonight it’s going to happen because am preaching the facts to these people and some of them are hearing them for the first time becoz some get their news from FAUX
GREAT update Me4Obama! Not sure what you should do with the Palin and Beck books? Maybe if you’re ever short of toilet paper they could come in handy? Great to hear the Tucson speech had such an impact on previously deaf ears. Thanks Me4Obama ;-)
If you’r artistically inclined, use them as base for altered book….fill them with writings, momentos, paint, collage, hand made art inspired by the energy and hope that President Obama instills in us. Then return them to the individuals that gifted you with them at next years SOTU.
Excellent idea, Sue! :-)
A good start, Me4Obama!
I’d say keep the books, then read one chapter (the first, maybe, or one in the middle) where you’ll no doubt find one or two points [;)] that you can rebut with facts. Those points could be stepping stones to more meaningful conversation. IMO this will show them that you are …a)open-minded enough to check out their side, and b)that you are not just blindly partisan. ALSO, don’t forget that your attempting to read their stuff opens the door for you to offer them reading material on Prez O, THAT YOU WOULD THEN EXPECT THEM TO READ! Don’t know who said ‘Knowledge is power’, but your willingness to show that you ‘read’ their offering might just give you the basis to expand their knowledge of the Prez. After all, our community here believes that to know the President (and his accomplishments) is to love him. Showing your willingness to ‘respect’ their dialogue might make them truly listen to you with more openness, and then you can ‘preach the facts’ – like the President did in Tuscon. I know my answer is long and seems kind of ‘preachy’, but after opening your door to the discussion, IMO it would be counterproductive to throw away the books, especially if the givers happen to ask you your opinion later.
30 minutes to go! I cant wait to hear the President! Good luck PODUS.
Hey everyone, im so anxious. Chris Matthews just revealed that he will do a special address on Gun Control.
Are You Fired Up???
Are you Ready to Go????
Ewwwwww, it had completely skipped my mind that VP Biden is going to be seated next to cry baby Boehner. When I saw him I completed did a doble take, WTF?
Me too :-( Depressing. Poor Joe having to sit beside that creature for the night.
Oh Michelle looks so Elegant
Michelle looks FABOLOUS.
I missed her entrance. Bummer.
She looked elegant, gorgeous, classy and beautiful – as usual. ;-)
I caught a glimpse of her as she was applauding POTUS’ entrance. She looks amazing.
Hey guys! Woke up just in time. :-)
I hope Biden has some tissue on hand to give Boehner…heheheh
I’m sure the TV crew will have to adjust for the extra “light” behind the pres tonight. HEHE
Ugh! Why does Mitch McConnell and Eric Cantor have to be behind him?
I think it was the daily show that said McConnell looks like a suprised turtle…I literally LMAO.
Why DO. I started typing and then I saw Cantor and forgot to change Does to Do. :(
Loving his slight purple tie :-)
Looking Good Mr. President…Looking good
He does look good though, doesn’t he? :-)
Aww Coburn hearts Obama
Three women Supreme Court Justices, how sweet is that? Love the way Justice Ginsberg hugs him.
I think the seating arrangement will benefit the President. I also think the presence of the victims of the Tucson shooting will ensure there aren’t “You Lie!” outbursts.
If anyone even tries to shout something abusive I will jump in to my TV screen and beat the crap out of them
Go on, Chip! I’m with you. My blood pressure is already getting a workout–nobody better pull no bleep!
:-) Love ya back!!
I’m adding photos as we go – the quality isn’t great, but will find better versions later.
Now, now Chipsticks and A.L. – we’re trying to be civil. ;) Good thing the rest of us are here sitting beside you so that we can yank on your shirt tails if you both start to get up.;)
I’m dying to earn a paycheck again, POTUS, so, I too, can be getting some tax credits. :-) Jobs. Jobs. Jobs. Jobs. Please.
No, I was posting a comment on Mrs.O…got caught up in the pres speech (he is on fire) and I posted it here by mistake. More proof that I can’t do two things at once.LOL
Haha! I can see how that would happen.
No worries LOL, just removed it for you ;-)
Seems like the Republicans are sitting on their hands….wake up and get in the game losers!
They’ll never leave the sidelines Sue, a bunch of hideous do-nothing cowards.
Boehner is not for eliminating billions of taxpayer subsidies to oil companies. “Instead of subsidizing tomorrow’s energy, let’s invest in tomorrow’s.”
I loved that line.
It must be difficult for such a smart person, our president, to be surrounded by a bunch of dummies! Why can they not see that we are way behind China when it comes to alternative energy. SMH!
Dummies like teaparty darling, Michele Bachmann. Chris Matthews ripped her a new one on his show tonight.
She left me speechless with her revisionist history! Unbelievable!
Saw that last night on Anderson Cooper, astonishing, she is truly a vile liar.
We will see her in a few minutes … the woman is just odd.
I am a Minnesotan, she definitely shames the good people of this state. I call her office in D.C. with some frequency….calling her out on her absurd allegations. They don’t really think she answers to me because I don’t live in her district……I’ll keep calling and insisting otherwise. She is a religous zealot…and like Palin (who I think is a pretend Christian and frankly evil) she is a puppet for much larger masters.
Education, education, education – yes, yes, yes!
The Republicans didn’t applaud that too much, they know they’ll be out of business if their voters get an education ;-)
Kathy: “That’s me.” Sweet :-)
Jesus, I feel like he’s talking to a room half-filled with neanderthals! Maybe I’m just nervous, but some of these folks are not only braindead, but want to foster that condition! Boehner belches as the President talks about education! Look at Cathy Procter’s pride.
You’re being waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too tough on neanderthals comparing them to Republicans, shame on you!
DID you guys notice that because of his position behind the President Boehner feels he has to clap (halfheartedly) from time to time?
Ha, yeah, he looks hopelessly uncomfortable!
I’m watching the President’s magnificent speech with a large OFA group. Wow! There has to be at least 500 of us here. It’s so exciting and now I know that there are so many more of us fired up and ready to go! Yea!
Excellent, hugs to them all :-)
Rumors. LOL. Repubs don’t want to improve it POTUS. They want to eliminate it.
“I am not willing to go back.”
Why am I scared some a hole will yell out something….oh the expectations of congresscritters are so low, its depressing
You’re right to have low expectations, that crowd has never failed to let the country down. I doubt they’ll be ‘brave’ enough tonight, though – the mood has turned against them.
It’s a great, attentive, and diverse crowd here at our OFA SOTU party: old, young, straight, gay, white, black, asian, hispanic, other.
Men, women and even a few young ones.
It is so gratifying to be here. Looks just like America!
But you guys I’ve just got to say:
Wow, what a brilliant President, what a communicator! We did good in electing this President! Woo hoo!!
Great to hear about the crowd there, Audrey. Sounds like America is represented well at you SOTU party. :-)
“American Muslims ARE a part of our American family.”
Adore this man.
Yup. I just tweeted that.
Hey, Chip, is it just me or is something screwed up about the thread?
Yeah, it seems all over the place! Ugh, I’m beginning to hate WordPress :-(
Excellent job Mr. President! No brainer … invest in our kids, improve our infrastructure and by dang, have an innovation agenda. Come on now! How can we claim “exceptionalism” and be behind everyone else in every way? SMH!
+ 1,000,000 ;-)
Dear lawd, why do the republicans hate education with a passion? Boehner, seemed disinterested when potus mentioned it.
I’m a little hesitant to say this, but the Prez doesn’t seem to have hit his stride yet in this speech. My thermometer – my internal resonance hasn’t started yet, that part of me that just vibrates when he speaks from his heart.
Oh ho – here comes the Boehner tears – the President mentioned his childhood personally!
I seem to be a bit lost as to where to comment.
Yeeepy, our Prez did great. Now the talking heads cant wait to spin away, Urrrgh.
I changed the channel. He did great – as usual.
I’m fired up and ready to go!
It’s over? I’m just settling in.
Thanks for hosting us, Chip! You’re the best!
My pleasure, Hachikō, enjoyed everyone’s company! Need to see how I can fix the thread problem!
Magnificent speech – calm, reassuring, positive, beautiful. What a President.
Excellent, excellent speech. So positive. So focused on what’s important. So gracious in reaching out to Republicans who only have plans to destroy. It was full of thought and vision and insight and challenge. Absolutely loved it.
A perfect summing up Theo, gracious is THE word.
Chipstick, thank you for a place to hang out as I watched. This is the first time I actually tried to watch at the OFA site while commenting on another (your) site, and while I couldn’t always keep up, I liked the experience. I must say I appreciated the warmth you shared in opening your ‘home’. :) Merci beaucoup, mon amie!
Hey VC, I’m impressed by your multi-tasking! Bon soir mon amie, see ya tomorrow ;-)
Thanks Chipsticks! It is just so wonderful to have this place!!
I will now go get a cup of tea to deal with this republican response. SMH!
LOL, enjoy your cup of tea CTGirl, see ya tomorrow :-)
Lovely pictures CS, Thanks. As usual our Potus looked stunning. And thank you Chipsticks for hosting us tonight.
Lovely to spend the evening with you Asher, inspired by that speech, he’s something else!
Why do I even listen to the talking heads on CNN.
They’re making me sick to my stomach.
The way some of them just put down President Obama makes me just want to reach into the TV and give them all a slap!
Anyway President Obama did excellent tonight. You guys should be very proud of your president.
Just heard them too Donna, utterly predictable – in fact, I’d guess they had their comments prepared before they even heard the speech. The only one who’s making any sense is Piers Morgan …. and I can’t stand him! Ignore them, just look at the polls, people are beginning to make their own minds up and ignore the MSM crap.
Exactly. Bergen and Begala were ripping the pres after the Tucson speech saying it won’t move polls and blah blah…yeah how did that work for you? Oh lawd, it’s BACHman on now.
Bergen and Begala criticized the Tucson speech ? Really ? On what planet are those guys living ??!!
Hello guys. Just finished watching the President and just a snipit of the repug response. I had to mute it and listen to some music. I thought I would vomit. Anywho, I agree with Sue in Minnesota about the comment she made at 10:26 pm. That Sarah Palin is evil. I for one plan to keep voting because I do believe that if the repugs get too much control we will have a socialist state who will not only change history to their own liking but even Christianity so that they can control us all. I would like to end by saying I am a Christian and a lot of those repugs are just fakes, including that horriable Glenn Beck.
Just wanted to inform you that Cspan has real people on…and the majority said the President did he was supposed to do. Just goes to show you that the pundits get paid to be divisive.
Jeeez, what a downer that Bergen guy on CNN is. Spining for the RW thought he had some sense.
Gergen is a right-wing operative who keeps been described as non-partisan because he advised Clinton after working for several republican presidents. It’s all a hoax!
I’ll never forget when he moderated that debate for the candidates running for Ted Kennedy’s senate seat in Massachussets and did that whole staged and rehearsed dog whistle thing with Scott Brown.
Gergen (eyes blinking and sly): Are you saying that you are going to vote against healthcare reform from Ted Kennedy’s seat?
Brown (sheepish and rehearsed): with all due respect, it is not Ted Kennedy’s seat, it is the people’s seat.
Lol. Gergen is a right wing tool period.
That was AWESOME & INSPIRING….however, After Ryan’s YAWN inducing response, Bachmann come to the rescue with a BatShitCrazy Talk…LOL
GOP shouldNOT give responses after POTUS…it is a suicide mission of credibily.
Credibility (spelling error…Oops)
What the hell is going on with this ODonnell guy on msnbc? He is ripping the Prez’s speech apart, asking Boxer abt prez not specifically mentioning the environment, yada yada. I guess his new gig has gone to his head.
Watched the enhanced SOTU from whitehouse.gov. Really liked the graphics and the pictures that illustrated the speech. It was wonderful to just watch the speech without the awful, intrusive and unnecessary comments by the pundits et al.The best experience I have ever had watching and listening the speech.
Home run. Let the pundits talk, this wasn’t a speech for the pundits, it was a speech for the average American. Filed with quotes that will resonate with them. Great sound bytes. Loved the live feed from the web and then the discussion after.
Extraordinary stuff from the pundits on CNN, especially Gergen. Constant references to the ‘failure’ of the Stimulus – good grief, do they really forget the state of the economy when President Obama took over, are they really unaware of how many jobs even independent observers agree the Stimulus saved, why are they ignoring ALL the positive news about economic growth, etc, etc. Their needle is stuck where they want the tune to stay, they are bitter broken records. And liars too. Incredible.
From the Republican Response and the Republican Tea Party Response, I realize now that there is such a limitation of the breath and depth of their thinking for potential solutions. I believe that they want him to fail miserably. But what I know for sure from the SOTU is that President Obama wants us to grow up and get to th business of making this country great.
That’s the greatest irony about them Mariele, they call themselves the true patriots but they want nothing more than for the country to fail under President Obama.
There were so many good points in President Obama’s speech. But the main point he always stresses is that we all want to see this country and it’s people succeed. How we go about it is where we differ. While the Democrats and the President want to include the underprivileged and the section of our society who are most at risk, the Republicans want to succeed without lifting up that same section of our society. How can the country succeed if ALL of it’s people don’t?
I admire the President for his long view of where our country and it’s people should be. His courage and character has defined his presidency, while his opponents repeatedly come of the worse for wear. I’m glad he’s at the helm and I hope we all work towards keeping him in the office for a second term.
I dont give a damn what the pundits spin. I know what I heard and I loved all I heard. So to hell with their know it all attitude. Gergen on cnn and ODonell on msnbc are really hating on the speech.
EXACTLY RIGHT! Pundits are wrong…like all the time & Everyone can now see how truly pathetic this so called “experts” are lol. Apparently CBS quick poll showed 92% of the viewers liking what they heard. Enough Said.
Thanks everyone for your company on a wonderful night, see you tomorrow ;-)
WOW 156 comments!! My input..he did well, he kept his calm as usual. The only time he seemed a lil fed up was when those people were pushing papers at him to sign gosh i hate that. I do not envy the president in that regard lol! but maybe if i was there i would have done the same once in a lifetime moment
Thanks Chipsticks for all that you do. These pics are wonderful from the SOTU.
