Inside the capitol in Madison, Wisconsin, 5,000 protesters spontaneously sing the national anthem.
What only tea party and republicans love this country. How dare liberal, progressive democrats sing the national anthem. LOL! Way to go Dems.
From Egypt to Wisconsin- we are being given fine example after fine example of how folks do indeed love their country. Thank you Chip for sharing this, so touching.
Until today, I considered Jimi Hendrix’s performance of the Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock
the most forceful.
As of today, it is surpassed by this impromptu confluence of voices …
Thank you Chip. God Bless America.
Oh, that just brought me to tears. It so reminded me of the Civil Rights marches and the singing of We Shall Overcome. Peaceful demonstrations leading to change and freedom. Go, Wisconsin. We are having a demonstration in Indiana on Monday. Our gov Mitch Daniels is just as bad as Walker. He was Bush’s OMB director and turned the Clinton surplus into a deficit in just two years, rammed through the prescription drug program (because guess what, he was an executive for the drug company Eli Lilly and it helped his friends in that industry) which jacked up the deficit. Then he quit after just two years to come back to Indiana and ruin it. Now he wants to push through a bill that would strip public workers of the right to organize.
As governor, he sold management of our roads to a middle eastern company, he privatized the administration of some state benefits to IBM. It was a disaster and the state lost millions when he fired them. His wife thought she was too good to move into the governor’s mansion so companies pitched in to renovate it. (I’m sure he returned the favor with a govt contract.) I still don’t believe she lives there. He is a disaster as all of these republicans are.
I salute the Wisconsin democratic leadership for standing their ground and leaving the state. Our dem leadership here is so weak. We need a lot of prayers.
Proud of Obama, thank you for the inside info. Daniels is one of the repugs that I think might get the nomination for 2012. He is smarmy and has made many snarky comments about our president.
A MIDDLE EASTERN COMPANY?
I posted this on BWD’s site. It’s more information on how Daniels’ failed privatization efforts. He’s a hypocrite and a phony. Another republican born rich (daddy founded Baker and Daniels the largest law firm in the state) who doesn’t care about the average American. He’s a little Napoleon who thinks he’s witty when he insults people.
Here’s my post:
The Truth About Mitch Daniels of Indiana
I love the sharing of information about these so-called republican candidates. We must keep informed and spread the truth about them. In that spirit let me shed a little light on Gov. Mitch Daniels who the repubs tout as so fiscally responsible. He has been a disaster for our state. He is trying to push through a bill that’s exactly like Wisconsin.
Here’s just one example of his bumbling. He got rid of case workers on the state’s food stamp program and turned it over to IBM with a $1.3 billion contract. Well it was a disaster. He had to fire IBM and it cost the state $361 million!
Fiscally, responsible? Not.
Here’s what one Indiana democrat said about Daniels’ failure:
“It’s a blow to privatization,” added House Speaker Pat Bauer, who was against the deal from the beginning. “I personally don’t think you should make profit off of the poor. I think they [IBM] ought to be embarrassed enough to go away and pay us something. Pay us a penalty,” he told reporters.
We must arm ourselves with the truth about these candidates and put it out there every chance we get.
Oh thank you. I frequent so many sites that at times I miss critical info. This is great news to have. You are so right, we must arm ourselves with information to use against the repugnuts.
Steve Benen of Washington Monthly had an update on the protests in Wisconsin today. The Tea Party has been railing against “big government” for the last two years. However, when the government is trying to break up unions the Tea Party is just fine with that.
THE LATEST FROM WISCONSIN…. If Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) and his supporters were hoping pro-labor protests would slowly fade away as the week progressed, they were no doubt disappointed yesterday. Indeed, with each passing day, the demonstrations against the union-busting campaign appear to be getting stronger.
Estimates vary, but by some counts, 65,000 protestors appeared in Madison yesterday — tens of thousands outside the building, and several thousand more inside — to express their concerns. For the first time, the Republicans’ Tea Party wing and other right-wing activists joined the demonstrations in an organized way, with notable-but-C-list conservative celebrities making appearances, including Andrew Breitbart and Samuel “Joe the Plumber” Wurzelbacher.
Let’s pause to appreciate the irony: in a dispute between working families and government officials, the Tea Party crowd is siding with the government.
We can’t emphasize this union-busting goal of Walker’s enough. Not the economy, but breaking up the unions! My father was a member of the union representing the ship builders in Camden, New Jersey, and the union was what supported Mother and me when Dad was dying of tuberculosis. My husband’s father was a member of the union representing sheep shearers in Utah, Idaho, and Montana. We are as a family pro-union.
And that spontaneous song, complete with the banging of drums, sounded to me so victorious that it reminded me of the finale from the 1812 overture. Nothing can beat that grand piece of music for Victorious!
Joan what a story. Thanks, dr
“Let’s pause to appreciate the irony: in a dispute between working families and government officials, the Tea Party crowd is siding with the government.”
I have always believed that the “TeaParty”=Front groups (bought & paid for by KOCH bros). Every day since april 2009 I see more evidence of this fact. So obviously, this latest stunt doesnot surprise me at all.
The irony. How hysterical that “Joe the plumber” is now going against the “average Joe!”
Right or wrong I have never been very patriotic until recently. That is because I have seen this country behave so badly on so many fronts. It used to be that I was rather ashamed of this country. Now, because of President Obama, I say the pledge of allegiance. And just like Proud of Obama, I was very moved by that video.
GOOOOOOOOO Union Members of Wisconsin !
my family and I are with you ALL.Keep fighting and don’t give up.Walker can suck it and suck it hard!
Here is commie loving our “musulman”commiehindulatinoIndio Presedent of our country all the way!

Viva Obama/Biden all the way!!!!!!
I found a tidbit of information that I would like to share with you. I am sorry that I didn’t write down the link to where I found it.
“The Tea Party movement’s dirty little secret is that its chief financial backers owe their family fortune to the granddaddy of all their hatred: Stalin’s godless empire of the USSR. The secretive oil billionaires of the Koch family, the main supporters of the right-wing groups that orchestrated the Tea Party movement, would not have the means to bankroll their favorite causes had it not been for the pile of money the family made working for the Bolsheviks in the late 1920s and early 1930s, building refineries, training Communist engineers and laying down the foundation of Soviet oil infrastructure.”
I stand in solidarity with all workers facing this injustice. Ohio is also fighting loss of bargaining rights. My father and husband were both Union members and as a State employee there were special rules that benefited me thru the State Board of Regents. They deleted my position, one of many to cut the State budget. They thought they could just say go but it turned out as a State employee in my particular specialty of Pediatric Endocrinology in a University Hospital they had to give me three months notice. Also, on my leaving they had to give me all of my vacation time and benefits because I had worked long enough to receive full State retirement benefits.
i predicted a land slide reelection for 2012. I pray to God this is indeed the set up for americans to wake up and get involved.
Democracy in Action…and very heart warming: I hope the link below works…
