It’s interesting as I read some of the regular blogs that I check in on. There still seems to be some hand wringing from a few of the folks I respect. Benen being one.
But, for the very real conditions under which PBO has to operate, I believe he is just doing an amazing job. And, it is a good reminder to all that for ALL of us who either blog or read them, he has MUCH information and the responsibility to make sense of it all that we just do not.

I just lost it on Steve’s blog. I’ve had it with the second guessers. I’ve seen democrats throw elections away due to their own immaturity, selfishness, and short sightedness, and I’m sick of them. None of them could do the job that PBO is doing. None of them. All they can do is whine, attack, and get angry with him while offering zero solutions. I challenged them to run in 2012 if they think they can do any better dealing with the crazy in the republican caucus in the House. I also told them that it is not PBO who is weak. It’s them because they’re willing to abandon him and the party the second things don’t go the way that they think they should. I meant every word I said. I told them that should another republican be elected in 2012, they deserve whomever, and whatever, they get.

The pic of President Obama at the top right on this blog is so appropriate today. I know it’s been there for a while, but it’s especially appropriate today. I remember that one of the conservatives said after the compromise PBO reached with them in December that the president had eaten their lunch. This time, it seems that he ate their dinner. They just knew they had him in a box, and only realized at the last hour, that it was PBO who had THEM boxed in.
LOL! “$105 billion Hidden Obamacare money?” Where is that stack of cash? Can I find it? Anyone? LOL!
Any compromise was going to cause them to react this way. If Boehner was smart he’d used this opportunity to throw the whole caucus under the bus.
He’s too afraid to do it. The republicans have seen the last census results, and they know that they can’t afford to alienate even one potential GOP voter. They’re stuck in the middle with tea partiers on one side and their corporate masters on the other. In this case, the corporatists were NOT rooting for a government shutdown, the tea partiers were. Instead of the tea partiers being angry with the real culprit that caused Boehner to compromise, they’re angry with Boehner, PBO, democrats, and everyone else, except the corporatists and themselves for supporting corporate-backed politicians like those in the GOP caucus in Congress.
Totally agree he’s too afraid but somewhere down the line he’s got to make a decision. There’s no way he wants to go thru this again with the debt ceiling or the 2012 budget. Tea Partiers are going to keep telling him the same thing don’t compromise an inch but as this round has shown that is not realistic. At some point it comes down to self preservation.
I’m stunned. I haven’t been reading any Tea Party at all. It sounded incoherent to me. There is no way that any Republican could please them. Primary Boehner? Yes!! Go for it. This IS good news for John McCain!

Might we expect more Tea Party candidates in 2012, including a presidential candidate? IMO, the tea partiers made their mistake when they allowed Armey and others like the Koch Bros. to co-opt their movement. They were laughing, carrying ugly signs, acting out, receiving lots of undue media attention, etc, and were paying zero attention to the fact that they were being used by the heavy hitters in the Republican Party. I hope they know it now.

The more I’ve reflected on it today, it would seem to me that Boehner either works with the House Dems or he will have one of the sparsest legislative records of any Speaker in history.
In fact, if he really wants to survive a primary, let alone get re-elected, he really has only one path and that’s to convince the few remaining sane Republicans in his District, along with a bunch of Independents, to vote for him.
That won’t happen unless he is a remarkably successful Speaker – an achievement he has zero chance of accomplishing without significant cooperation from Minority Leader Pelosi. Oh, the irony.

Those in the middle voices are heard when they go to the polls to cast their ballot to tell both extremes “You don’t speak for me”.

I think that Boehner is beyond trying to keep his job. These teabaggers are dangerous. I’m sure he gets death threats on the regular. Boehner is probably so over this by now, but he is probably worried about his own life and his family’s safety. Best believe they call his office with death threats.
