He has got to be driving the Secret Service CRAZY with these spontaneous movements. The SS on his left wanted to take the phone before POTUS took it. How do you scold the President of the United States??? That girl and her mother are on top of the world and the SS is sweating buckets!
I know, look at the SS’s face….he’s SO P.Oed!! :)
They are. I feel sorry for them. They are really getting a workout. Hopefully, the President will see that get good bonuses this year.
The Secret Service guy might or might not be po’d, but that look on his face is just intensity. I’ve seen it on all of them at one time or another when POTUS is in a crowd. They look like they almost have X-ray vision — just totally focused on where they are looking.
that’s what I was thinking too.
I like how fierce they are about protecting our beloved President.
BIG Security no-no. This is the last time he will _ever_ do that.
Trust me, POTUS will be spanked and scolded.
Spanked and Scolded by who? lol
Oops, did I just type that out loud? *blush*
Terrific, Junkessa! I laughed out loud at that one!
*hangs head in shame*
Lol ladies ladies ladies…only myself and Michelle is capable of such a task :)
say what now? I didn’t know Michelle snuck you in on the deal too? I’m gonna have a long talk with her about this ;)
*volunteers immediately* …….just saying ^.~
One steely look from POTUS and that thought of spanking or scolding would go right out the window! LOL!!! He is going about his business with the knowledge that he has GOD’s shield of protection all around him. I don’t think he’s being foolish – not when he is aware that his speech was given with shields surrounding him.
Renegade has gone rogue.
That must be the bravest girl ever…if she was my daughter I would give her a big hug and kiss for doing that!! How thoughtful of her to let the president speak to her mom! This man has got to be the coolest man ever! The SS definitely are having a hard time especially with down to earth people like the Obamas…they could make anyone catch a heart attack futhermore the SS with these unusual of a President and First Lady gestures lol
He’s definitely going to get an earful from the head Secret Service guy… I think he might deserve that earful this time.
Hi everybody – what a great day in Ireland! I’ve been hooked on the live feed since the President and First Lady arrived in Dublin this morning. What an absolutely wonderful day and visit. The Irish did themselves proud today.
Wow. Pretty cool. I would be freaking out if I found out it was POTUS on the phone. :D
I was once on one of those national OFA conference calls in 2008 and all of a sudden the operator comes on the line and says, I have the President for you from AF1. It was very patchy reception and then Reggie Love comes on and says, OK, here is the President. That was really a thrill to hear him calling in from AF1. You could tell he was on an airplane because of the sound. Since then, they’ve done a few more of those calls during HCR run-up and 2012 roll out. He has such a great voice.
OMG! MY PRESIDENT IS SO F*ING COOL!!
Is that what aloof looks like? Cuz I’m going to have to reorient my internal dictionary.
Yes, this is our aloof, cool, professorial, unable to connect with people, President
Yeah, and look how much he isn’t enjoying the Presidency.
I could not believe that insipid woman actually said that!
Her job this day was to take the shine off the visit. She only managed to delude herself. There were 100,000 people who were at that event, and some of them are finding it hard to speak due to their excitement. The media is a very sad affair. I’m glad the crowd booed them.
The crowd booed the media? I missed that. The US media, especially, should be booed, often.
During the concert. The host said to wave to the media at the back, and some in the audience booed, and the host said “aw, be nice”. It was a beautiful moment.
I love it! I’m sorry I missed it.
RTE interviewed people who had attended the speech. The young girl who had given the phone to President Obama to speak to her mother was so excited she was almost shaking and said she wouldn’t let anyone touch the phone now. They interviewed several young people who had been there who were very moved. One thing RTE said was this audience was much younger than President Clinton spoke to when he spoke there in 1995. And that Prime Minister Edna Kenny had never spoken to such a large crowd of young people.
I think this will be a part of a resurgence for Ireland. RTE interviewed an Irish official who talked about reconnecting with Irish Americans and renewing trade and the tourist industry. Several of them remarked on the President’s comments about them going through hard times before and coming back and that they would this time too. I think they felt a lot of hope and encouragement.
So much good coming out of this day. :)
Awww they are just like us here in America. This ferosh president remains Gen44. We love him. Unlike the dinosaurs the Republicans are trying to dress up as young and new.
That’s what’s up. I love him, so cool.
good to hear the people’s POV :D
His mother must be so proud.
I’m still watching RTE. I feel like a freak, but what the hey. I don’t mind re-watching and re-watching two of my favorite people getting the welcome and support they so richly deserved.
I just rejoined that broadcast. Just heard that Air Force One has just left Dublin, to get out ahead of the Iceland ash cloud (how crazy is that?).
ps- PBO just left Ireland :(
I have re-watched it over and over. I’m now looking for the footage for their arrival in London tonight. Then, will have to take a nap until the late night coverage starts again. I’m unashamed.
What a day! This site is amazing, thank Chipsticks for the wonderful reports and pics from Ireland.
Just heard that President Obama landed in London half an hour ago. Been lurking here since this morning but not posting much I’ve been so overwhelmed with the beauty of the day and love that the Irish people have for your amazing President. I know i won’t sleep tonight, but will have to try, i am leaving for London real early in the hope of maybe seeing him or atleast his motorcade or marine one. This is just the most incredible time, I can’t believe that he is here almost in the same town as me! I really must try to sleep now. Thanks once again for such a great site.
Hey is RTE showing it again? because when I click on the link they are showing other programs…what are you looking at? Would love to re-watch lol
Thanks for a wonderful day in Ireland. For all of my friends who stayed up all evening, I enjoyed your company so much. We had a wonderful time. A very special thank you to Chipsticks for making it possible. What a beautiful day. We give thanks to God for the safe trip to Ireland, the lovely weather after all, cousin Henry, the Prime Minister Kenney and all of those happy young people and old alike. President Obama’s mother is smiling with much love upon her beautiful son today. We needed all of this happiness and love given to our President and First Lady. Thank you Ireland. Can’t wait to see what Tweety is going to say today. He surely must have double chills running up and down his legs.
Hi HZ – what a wonderful day indeed. I heard one of the commenters/pundits/”journalists” saying that he had a chill running down his back (I thought of tweety) during the Moneygall portion. I thought it was very significant that the sun kept coming out just at the right moment, and that a rainbow appeared in Moneygall. On to London! That should be a nice trip, too.
I don’t know how London can top this! Unless there’s another ancestor there, they can’t, lol. Looks like the Queen is ready to show PBO and FLMO a great time, though.
That’s right, Tweety is Irish. Maybe I’ll come off my “Hardball” boycott to watch him. Lawrence O’Donnell sounds Irish, too — and I watch him regularly; hopefully he’ll have something on the visit tonight.
Meanwhile, on the other end of the Irish spectrum, Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly must be crapping in their pants. HA!
Don’t forget CNN. Their talking head said the big story of the day would be the limo getting stuck!
Let Hannity and O’Reilly get some depends they will help them out alot.
Amen to your beautiful words.
Chipsticks we owe you BIG time….you have made this day from beginning to end, one to remember. It was the next best thing to being there…you are so generous for having enabled this experience.
glad he left.I hope he gets to France safely.GOD bless and protect and guide the President
I want to thank Chip for today. You have been absolutely wonderful and I want you to know how much I appreciate all the work and I want to think the TOD family for being just fabulous :D
good night folks
x1,000,000. Thank you, Chips, and everyone.
It’s so wonderful to see him enjoying this trip. After all the unbelievable birther lunacy he has had to endure, I’m glad he experienced overwhelming love and care from the people of Ireland. I can’t wait to see those kinds of rallies once again here in the States. No single American political figure today–Democrat or Republican– can bring out a crowd of 100,000 anywhere except Barack Obama. A true global leader, he is!
This site has been absolutely brilliant in covering this event. Thank you so much giving us so much to enjoy today! Blessings and gratitude!
The Prez joked abou the birthers in his speech and the crowd laughed along.
This has been a remarkable day. I love that the people of Ireland welcome our President with open arms and heart. He was just great in his knowledge of Irish American history. I am so proud that we have a brilliant President with a sense of humor. Thank you Ireland.
I do believe Secret Services will have a talk with the President. It’s their job to keep him safe and he is going to have to listen to them.
HE’S SAYING ‘HI’ TO A FRIEND FOR SOMEONE ELSE…I LOVE IT WHEN HE SURPRISES SOMEONE LIKE THAT. REMEMBER THE CONGRESSWOMAN WHO HUNG UP ON HIM A COUPLE OF TIMES BECAUSE SHE DIDN’T BELIEVE IT WAS HIM?…:)))))
