President Barack Obama meets with volunteers as he views damage from the tornado that devastated Joplin

President Barack Obama speaks at a memorial service at Missouri Southern State University for the victims of the tornado that devastated Joplin

I have a meeting to go to so I will miss this live. I know that I will be able to see the video here and read everyone’s comments. Between here and BWD’s blog I know I will hear the best of what went on. Thank you everyone!
is their a link to the local tv station? may be they will carry POTUS’ arrival live. the White House Feed does not seem to begin until 3.00 p.m
MSNBC will be carrying his statement at 3 pm. Hopefully, they will carry his arrival.
CNN will also carry it LIVE.
I’m watching TV but there’s nothing on yet so I’m thankful.
The half term governor found it more important to force herself on the Rolling Thunder motorcycle ride in Washington dressed in all black leather. I guess the Rev. Franklin Graham forgot to tell her about Joplin. Disgusting.
She is a POS, she sullies everything she touches. God forgive me for my disgust.
I am certain God is disgusted also.
Truer words have never been spoken about Lady ala Trash
I’m right there with you, Sue. She’s of the lowest order. All about herself.
Can’t watch that woman. What a disaster.
EVEN MORE DISGUSTING…I SAW A CNN RIBBON THAT SAYS MCCAIN STATED PALIN COULD BEAT OBAMA IN 2012! JUST WHAT PLANET IS HE ON???????…AGAIN!
What planet is McCain on for thinking Palin could beat Obama in 2012? The very same planet he was on when he thought he could beat Obama in 2008.
saw that on CNN.com , but I didn’t want to disturb the rival atmosphere by bringing in this travesty. But I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking that McCain is living in an alternate universe. He’s obviously taken leave of his faculties and so we must say a prayer for him, TOD.
revival, not rival…that would just be weird and makes no sense. Oh, Lisa, sometimes I worry about you {{{sigh}}}
I thought McCain gave up the comedy circuit after he lost the election. Fielding for a new vocation I suppose
Ed, that was a good one. teehee.
Johnny boy is never going to get over his anger. He has always been an angry and bitter person. He cannot believe that a smart, handsome black man beat his pants off.
I know that Joplin territory. I grew up not too far from there. It is so redneck. If I were Obama, I do not think I could semi hug that rotten governor. He is a swine. Of course that is what makes our president so special. He does not hold grudges.
Alert——–Alert——–Alert
We have a live feed in Missouri tornado site Now
http://live.cnn.com/
Candy Crowley had on 3 veterans today and each one of them bashed the v.a.
This girl candy Crowley tools her whole show Around bashing the government!
Crowley is ridiculous. I don’t know who watches her, but she’s as boring as watching poop dry. [[[[sorry for the bad mental image]]]]]]
ps- I don’t have first hand experience of the latter part of my statement, I just imagine it would be boring….. or maybe…. not in comparison to CNN’s entire tv line-up? Hmm, I must give this more thought.
Fareed can be worthwhile.
Except I don’t agree with him publicizing that he was “advising” the President. If I were him, I would have regarded that as a private thing, a conversation of trust. I was disappointed that he felt it necessary to parade the conversation all over the TV.
Agreed. That was awkward.
More than awkward Bill, very self-promoting, arrogant and self-serving!
Quite disappointing to see that tacky display of flippancy and ego!
True, I also agree with what Theo said too, though Fareed is very tolerable. So is Anderson Cooper, but mostly because I’m more than slightly in love with him, regardless of his political affiliation. He’s the only repug (or alleged repug) in the media or entertainment world I haven’t blacklisted. If he stays sweet and cute, sexy and non-partisan, I just my drop him a line
Hey Lisa, I’m curious as to what would make you think that Anderson Cooper is a Republican?
This is not confirmed because my Boo has never discussed his private life, however, there have been lists compiled of republicans in hollywood(which is why I said “republican or allegedly republican”). The broader statement was that he was so impartial and so upright, that I wouldn’t blacklist him even if he was a Republican, also because he’s so sexy and smart, and cute and sexy and sexy and sexy… okay, I said that already. The lists also include: James Earl Jones, Adam Sandler, The Rock, Jessica Simpson, Patricia Heaton from Everybody Loves Raymond, Bruce Willis, CHuck Noris, Sarah Michele Gellar and her hubby, the guy from Who’s the Boss, Scott Bayo? and other hollywood actors/actresses, directors, etc. I’ve heard before that Mr.Sexy Silver Fox was a republican but I only found him on one unofficial list of compiled with names of substantiated republicans who have voted, contributed or registered as republican- but you’re going to have to scroll down a bit. This is the last link (it’s not official, but it does have republican stars listed on it). The first and second links have some of the same names as the third link.
ps- Boo never talks about his private life because he always wants to be impartial, so it’s alleged. I doubt we’ll ever find out for sure.

Ha!
I don’t watch Candy Crowley. I have learn that people can and will always bash something till they need help.
Candy Crowley is a George Bush disciple! Please look up the exit interview she did in Bush’s last days in office, just before PBO’s inaguaration. Look for the video, it’s out there somewhere!
She was chucking it up with Bush, lobbing all these fluff softball none-questions about nothing while at the same time screaming with the rest of the media pack about holding “PBO’s feet to the fire”!
The most shocking but telling part of the interview??!
Crowley and Bush arm in arm, strolling down the halls of the white house with Candy giggling excitedly and blushing like a school girl with her high school crush! It was DISGUSTING!
Not one accountability question from the ugly queen of snark – the same woman who demands that PBO answer for EVERYTHING including every one of George Bush’s failures!
“…one of many George Bush failures”? More like ALL of George Bush’s failures are now dumped at President Obama’s feet.
lisa, thanks for the laugh.
I often wonder is Crowley is really that stupid and spiteful or does she just play one on TV. (I’m guessing the former)
Yeah – I can’t decide where Crowley is concerned. She didn’t seem this stupid during the election, but then again, I didn’t pay all that much attention to her during the campaign. She was assigned to the President, and I only started listening to her during the general election – so it was probably easy for her to be upbeat about the guy who was clearly going to win. Ever since she started this show, I can’t stand to listen to her, because it’s “bash Obama all the time”. I might go with “she’s stupid, and an opportunist”.
I think she’s still trying to remain relevant and competitive. Can’t watch her either.
Crowly is nothing but a GOP shill.I had Ed Schultz’s term in mind but today’s God’s day so I will refrain myself
LOL Fred!
President landed at 1:22 Eastern. Press Secretary Carneys says PBO got a good view of tornado destruction before landing.
Crap CNN Took it Off!
now it’s back on cnn
All I get is Live weather….nuts!
They took nit off again.
They’re back on now. The cameras are now inside.
Thanks Meta
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr 3 o’clock taking sooooooooooooooo long to come!!!!!!!! Wanna see and hear what’s going on down there grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!
I’m right with ya P.
I found this one photo of PBO being greeted by Governor Nixon:
http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/President-Barack-Obama/ss/events/pl/020807obama
Oh, thanks Meta!! Yes…..
You’re most welcome, Doris!
Thanks meta!! This should be shown on CNN, MSNBC and the rest of the news stations!!!!! Here it is a President is consoling people devastated by a natural disaster and not one of them is covering the entire trip or at least some of it but when the President was abroad on business they were down there and talking yang about why is the President not in Missouri!!!!! Covering the President’s statements is not enough I want to see the entire trip; I want to see him meet the people and hear their stories as well as his take on it!!!!!!! Grrrrrr!!!!
It wears me out trying to wrap my head around MSM malfeasance. I just don’t think it’s worth trying anymore. They’re scum.
They are a complete waste of time.
He is on.
Time to seriously BOYCOTT the MEDIA…they do not enrich or inform our lives. Political malfeasance and nonfeasance.
We must protect net neutrality.
The President on CNN TV
yep, so true: “There but for the grace of God go I”. So true
The Governor was warm toward the President. I saw relationship there.
Yep, PBO has been with him from the get go, as soon as he heard about the crisis.
Ohhh, okay.
Sorry, I mean they were in contact from the get-go. But you’re right, definite respect and appreciation on both parts, great eye Doris.
Thanks GF.
Listen to the reception they are giving our President!!
was it nice?
I couldn’t see him come in, but there was lots of cheering and applause.
Fred, yes, there was cheering and hootin’ and hollerin’.
sweet
MSNBC has full service, CNN cut away.
They’re back on now.
Anyone know who this minister is? I like his message to the survivors, “Get busy living your life. We are a people of hope.”
THANK GOODNESS…GOT HOME IN TIME TO WATCH THE PRESIDENT…:)
You now done eat lol…u know how long you have your family waiting for you?
TOO FUNNY!!!!..:)
I am in tears:(
Here is a short video by CNN
http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/05/29/missouri.tornado/index.html?eref=rss_topstories
Wow! Did you hear that?
nice welcome
I’m watching the man introducing President Obama and there was a rousing cheer when he thanked the President for helping Joplin and people all across the country. Loud cheer for the president!
People were yelling that they loved him.
What a beautiful speech. For those of you who haven’t been able to watch it, he spoke of individual instances of bravery. A man at Home Depot and a man at Pizza Hut who saved many others and lost their life. President Obama talked about the heroes among us. That they may wear an orange apron at a store or wait on us at a restaurant. He also talked earlier about the storm taking everyone in it’s path — race or other conditions didn’t matter. He really made me think about my anger at Republicans and Tea Party members and that in a disaster none of that would matter. He also said the cameras may leave, but American would be with them every step of the way when they were rebuilding. Just a beautiful speech.
And the man who followed him thanked the President and had tears in his eyes when he spoke about his compassion when he walked the streets talking to people.
I always feel good when I see or hear President Obama. When he speaks I feel uplifted and called to something better in myself. I am so glad he is our President and I can hear him so often and visit with him here with friends at The Obama Diary.
Peace,
Suzanne
Perfect recap and not only am I uplifted by this President but anytime he can go into a state and small town where the MSM would have you believe these people don’t like him yet you hear them shouting their love for him and reaching out for his hugs and comfort – I know that the American people are uplifted and encouraged by this President far beyond the made up polls that our media keeps touting.
Yes—-”called to something better in myself”.
So true Suzanne, after he was done speaking, I said and wrote down a little prayer for the Republicans, for the president, his family and the people of the Midwest who died and were saved both physically and in the holy spirit. It made me want to overpower the Republicans with the power of prayer and well wishes and I wrote and thought of as many of those as possible and sent it out like a laser beam to Palin and the others. I hope it reaches them and i hope it touches them and makes a difference. If they keep on fighting and back-biting, I’m gonna pray for them, and if they keep on cursing and hating, I’m gonna ask for their forgiveness, because I believe that God loves them and loves us and we can do all things through him. so I’m saying that I’m going to war for the soul of the GOP with a whole lotta prayer and somehow, I’m gonna get to the love, because the scripture says: Love thy enemies as you love yourselves. And I’m gonna try. I’m gonna try real hard and I hope we all try hard and follow PBO’s example. It’s gonna be tough, but I at least want to say I tried.
agree
Lisa what you pray is so true. We need to pray for our perceived enemies and ask God to touch their hearts to awaken them to their actions and ask forgiveness for their deeds. It is difficult and impossible for some but those who can need to cover them with love. President Obama is our guide and example and we recognize that in him. He can change the world and it must start with us and our actions.
The Governor also thanked the President for his service to America. And the crowd cheered.
Wasn’t that something.
babies going crazy so take them out;PLEASE
glad to know the World Leaders talked to our President about Joplin and I am happy to hear that it makes the folks of Joplin feel a tad better
Yes, if your kid is screaming his/her head off, you have a duty to all the people there and around the country to remove your kid so he/she does not wreck the service for everyone else. That is so rude to let that go on and on. People need to have some sense.
YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER YOU ALL THAT THESE PEOPLE HAVE AND ARE GOING THROUGH SHOCK AND AWE…THEIR MINDS ARE SO DOWNTRODDEN…THEY PROBABLY ARE NOT CONSCIOUS OF THE BABIES CRYING…THE PRESIDENT ADORES CHILDREN…HE UNDERSTANDS AND DOESN’T CARE! JUST A THOUGHT!
Thank you, Sue.
I enjoy everyone on this site. But I do ask for tolerance of children. That’s what children do. Children are a sign of life, of youth, of growth. If there are no children, there is no future. It’s okay, that children cry out occasionally. People with developmental disabilities can sometimes make odd, unexpected noises. We shouldn’t shun them into the hallway or out of the room. We all have our challenges, but please, let the children be. I know that babies aren’t appropriate in all situations, but these folks have just had their lives torn apart. To me, a baby crying brings a sense of normalcy. That’s what babies do.
OK, I’m stepping down from my soapbox now… Sorry, but I just had to say that. I’ve been the recipient of stares and whispers when my child with autism would make an odd noise, or squeal or inappropriate giggle. I’ve been called a bad parent because I didn’t ‘control’ him or ‘discipline’ him, as if I could make the autism go away, I wouldn’t stomp on it in the middle of the floor and set it on fire, but instead just let it disrupt his ability to control himself and his impulses? If it were that easy, I would have done it by now.
Bless your heart isonprize. This is a family so you never have to apologize for stating your feelings. Yes we all get frustrated when babies make noise in public places, but thank you for letting everyone know that there are backstories to every cry or outburst. Thank you for letting us know about your struggles as a parent with an autistic child. I hope that when people give you ‘dirty’ stares, you NEVER let it get you down b/c I’m sure you do your absolute best as a parent. I pray that God continues to give you the strength to be a fabulous parent and to withstand stares, smirks and rude remarks from otherwise ignorant people. Always know that when you are having a stressful day or just need to vent; we are all here for you. No matter what time or day. Take heart my friend.
Thanks UT.
Good soapbox, isonprize. I heard the children and thought about the cycle of life – many dead in Joplin, but life still goes on with the children’s cries, etc. If I were there, I wouldn’t want to miss my President speaking so I can understand why a parent might let a child cry
.
Thanks Blondegrrl.
These children have also been displaced, no wonder they are crying. How can people be so insensitive. I don’t get it.
Oh my word, that reception for our President. God bless Joplin.
He’s preaching now.
oh Lowd I am getting shivers
Tearing up here.
Me too.
I did too, Meta.
OMG, another very beautiful and very moving speech.
WE ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE.
I LOVE it when he uses this voice. This incredible powerful voice.
It goes right through you.
EXACTLY. It fills you up and hits your soul.
I Love the way he uses his voice also…it reminds me of what Harry Reid said and got hit over the head over (although I knew what he was really saying)…President Obama can go in and out of candence when he chooses….
I got chills. Without a shadow of a doubt, this President is the RIGHT president for times like this.
President Obama as preacher. He is amazing. The people are so hanging onto his every word. Absolutely beautiful speech.
*bawling* waaaaaahhhhhhhh
GOD bless you Mr President;everyday and all day
I want to cry!
He’s just got a boundless source of strength. That was moving.
Really touching. Hope the people of Joplin find comfort in the President’s visit and words and in knowing that they are not alone. I love that the other HoStates at the G8 sent their best wishes to the people of Joplin.
seriously…the pianist is too fast. It’s a slow tempo song.
Just saw this brilliant tweet from BWD:
No better way to demonstrate the contrast between Obama and Palin than in their activities today.
that’s what LEADERS do Meta
So true – this is the second time palin misses the empathy boat during a tragedy.
at least she’s not faking ya know Theo;because the faking because it would be faking on her part since she doesn’t have one iota of compassion in not only her body but dna would really be insulting to the real victims
There are no words, Meta -
Classy, eh?
Really pathetic. What exactly has she done to “honor fallen heroes”? Utterly ridiculous. Blind followers.
I JUST CAN’T IMAGINE ANYONE FOLLOWING THAT WOMAN…HER ELEVATOR HAS NO SHAFT…SOMEBODY PASS THE VELCRO WRAP-AROUNDS AND GIVE SARAH AND FRIENDS A PADDED ROOM WITH NO VIEW! YIKES!!!!! SHE’S GOT A HELMET ON AND IT’S STILL EMPTY!
I can not watch her….my blood pressure shots up to life threatening levels.
I understand (and can not wait) that a book is coming out exposing her Baby Hoax….I know some think it is not important, but as a woman and someone who enormously values honesty I think it is necessary. It will also shine a light on our media’s malefeasance and complicity in political fraud.
The question is: How much did the Grifter, Half-term, Racist, Secessionist, Mean Girl get paid?
You Betcha!
There are LEADERS and then there are leaders!
Perfect!
what just happened?
ps- all my best to the people of Joplin. I think PBO almost cried at the end. God, this tragedy is so moving and sad.
I saw that too. He was filled up.
He’s so gracious.
“Comforter in Chief”.
Whitehouse.gov is still showing the service.
It ended.
What a moving speech. Then afterwards, I love how he looks each person in the eye and takes time to speak to each of them. Not just a passing handshake, but a meaningful exchange of emotion and solemness. I don’t get a chance to reply a lot to the goings on with this man, but today I can’t help but express how BLESSED this country is to have him. We are SO blessed!
Yes – he really looked each one in the eyes, and those hugs were heartfelt.
Amen. All hopes and prayers go to the people of Joplin and Tuscaloosa. The Gov was right, they will rebuild and make Alabama and Missouri better than it was before. It’s also true what was said about not wondering why this happened, but what are we going to do with our second chances? I’m grateful for the second chances each survivor in the Midwest has had in the last few weeks. It makes even people not immediately affected feel the need to reflect and make better choices for the future. God bless and keep these people, our brothers and sisters both here and abroad, may god guide and keep our president and his family, for his name sake, Amen and Amen.
ps- and God, please bless Sarah Palin and the other Republicans, we may not understand them, we may not love them as we should, but we pray that you reach out and touch them. Reach out and make a difference in their lives dear heavenly father. Let them know that we are our brother’s keepers, let them know that no matter what political blood we bleed, whether it’s red (republican), white (Independent) or blue (Democrat), we are all God’s children in the eyes of the Lord. Help them to love their neighbors as they love themselves, help us to be tolerant even though they work on our last nerves. Let us work and fight together on the behalf of our children, our children’s children and our future generations. Dear Lord, reach out and touch our president and his family, guide them, protect them, love them and keep them. Be the president’s rock dear heavenly father, be his strength and shield in his time of need. Lord God, keep him in your warm embrace, for now and forevermore, Amen.
pps- Dear God, help me be more patient and charitable to the party from the other side of the aisle. Help me curb my tongue when I want to curse them out and assign malicious intent to their actions. I know it won’t be easy, father, but help me out.
Amen.
And Amen. Beautiful prayer lisalovesobama. Amen.
Lisa, you can pray for me any day!!
Amen Sister Prize, Amen
SOMEBODY PASS THE KLEENEX…WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MEMORIAL SERVICE. ALL OF THE PRAYERS AND THE PRESIDENT’S ADDRESS WAS SO HEARTWARMING. IT SEEMS LIKE WE’VE BEEN WITNESSING SO MANY MEMORIAL SERVICES. BUT…WE MUST REMEMBER…THAT HOPE SPRINGS OUT OF TRAGEDY!
How could anyone not vote for PBO in 2012?
Amen.
NOW I WILL TELL YOU THE STORY I WANTED TO RELATE EARLIER TODAY AT OUR CHURCH. STRANGE THINGS HAPPEN BUT FOR REASONS. HERE WE ARE ON A SUNDAY AT OUR LITTLE CHURCH IN CAMBY,INDIANA. ONE OF THE MEMBERS BROUGHT A SPECIAL RELATIVE. HERE COMES CHARLIE DILLON…A FIREFIGHTER WHO SURVIVED 9/11 IN THE TOWERS. CHARLIE IS A RELATIVELY YOUNG MAN WHO GRADUATED FROM MANY HOSPITAL STAYS TO A WHEELCHAIR…..LOTS OF PHYSICAL THERAPY…NOW ON A CANE. THE PASTOR GAVE HIM A MIC. TODAY AND HE STOOD UP AND THANKED GOD FOR ALL OF THE LIGHT HE HAS RECEIVED FROM HIS TRIALS THROUGH DARKNESS. HIS BODY IS SWOLLEN FROM TAKING PREDNIZONE BECAUSE HE LUNGS ARE CURRENTLY ONLY 42% FUNCTIONAL. UNFORTUNATLEY HIS INSURANCE WON’T PAY FULL COVERAGE UNLESS HIS LUNGS ARE AT 40%…THIS I DON’T UNDERSTAND.
HOWEVER,WHAT WAS SO STRANGE WAS THE FACT THAT FOR ALL THESE YEARS I HAVE HAD A NECKLACE HONORING THE 9/11 FIREFIGHTERS HANGING ON MY VEHICLE MIRROR. I PUT IT AROUND HIS NECK AND HE WAS SO HAPPY AND HE’S TAKING IT HOME TO NEW YORK. AFTER ALL THESE YEARS…MY NECKLACE FOUND JUST THE RIGHT HOME ALL THE WAY FROM CAMBY OUT IN THE BOONDOCKS! I HOPE THAT MAKES YOU ALL SMILE TODAY…IT DID ME! BLESSINGS….:)
What a lovely story – and I can’t believe that these guys don’t get free health care for life. I also find it disgusting that Republicans resisted giving them additional compensation. These responders are some of those everyday heroes that the President talked about today. What a fateful encounter for you, Sue!
IT WAS SO AMAZING…IN THE BOONEDOCKS OF ALL PLACES. POOR CHARLIE’S BODY IS SO SWOLLEN FROM THE MEDICINE…REMEMBER WHEN JERRY LEWIS WAS ON IT AND WHAT HE LOOKED LIKE AT THE TIME. THAT’S CHARLIE AND HE’S HAVING SUCH A DIFFICULT TIME BREATHING. WE OWE THESE HEROES EVERYTHING WE CAN GIVE. CAN YOU IMAGINE? HIS LUNGS WORKING ONLY AT 42% AND THAT’S NOT ENUFF FOR COVERAGE? THAT’S LESS THAN HALF AND RIDICULOUS! GOD IS WATCHING!
Thanks for that, Sue. Indeed things happen for a reason. And sometimes the beauty of not knowing why things happen eventually translates into a special kind of fate that really makes you stop in awe and thank Him. I’m sure Charlie will remember you and the necklace for the rest of his life!
I AM JUST SO HAPPY IT FOUND A HOME…WHERE IT BELONGS. IT WAS DOGTAGS SOLD BY THE POST OFFICE AT THAT TIME AS A TRIBUTE TO THE FIREFIGHTERS. THERE WAS A PIC. ON IT OF THE FIREMAN HOLDING UP OUR FLAG.
God works in mysterious ways Sue, mysterious ways.
that’s a great story.
Whether in or out of your Ruby Red Slippers, you sparkle. I too believe that things happen for a reason, we just need to be aware enough and wise enough to make the connection. Thanks for connecting us to your experience.
Beautiful Sue -”When you do it for the least of these……”
thank you for that Sue.Great story indeed
MOMENTS DO FIND THEIR WAY HOME EVENTUALLY.
Thank you for sharing your story Sue. I love these moments of human connection. It will be a story for him to tell also, when we gets back to New York. So his friends know you had them in your thoughts all these years.
I WAS WATCHING THE NEWS THAT DAY…SUCH A NEWS JUNKIE I AM…WHEN IT HAPPENED AND MY FIRST FEELING WAS SHOCK AND AWE AND DISBELIEF. NONE OF US WILL EVER FORGET!
Oh, Sue now I am crying again. Thanks for this very moving story. The wait was worth it. Thanks for connecting us to Charlie through your experice this morning.
Sue this was truly a touching story. I hope Mr. Dillion get the medical care he needs and is able to live a comfortable life again. It reminds us how blessed we are and we should be grateful and thank God everyday!
Just finished watching the service and the president’s remarks. He was the comforter/preacher in-chief. Well received by the people;several shouted out their love and appreciation for PBO. When he waked the line afterward tom offer co fort and encouragement, he looked at everyone directly and was in the moment with that person. The elderly women, especially, received his attention. Some of the women clung to him. Everyone was grateful that he was there. PBO did not look as if he had just come from a grueling overseas trip. Once again, the president made us proud as he saw to the needs of the people.
FEMA has performed very well in all of the tornado hit areas; no complaints from the various towns. When you put people in chafe who know what they are doing, rather than fillings the posts with your friends, this is the result that you get.
So true! You have to be blinded with hate not to love, respect and admire our marvelous President! The man epitomizes all that is best about the United States of America and what it means to be that rare well-rounded and greatest of leader!
May God continue to bless and protect this great leader he has given us! Amen!
I completely agree CEB and Audrey.
That was a very moving speech by the President. I think the people of Joplin was very moved by it.
And just looking at him hugging the people affected by the disaster, he is such a comforter. There is just so much warmth and love that emanates from him.
I’m looking at a Fox new reporter trying to get his reporting right and it’s being shown on cnn on the internet.
What a moving and fitting tribute to the people who lost their lives, their homes, their families, their friends in Joplin. All of the speakers were poised, eloquent, and genuine. I was deeply moved by the service. Sometimes when I watch MSM and hear random conversations in public – I hurt for the president because such horrid and wretched venom is spewed towards him. So many pundits try to frame and characterize his presidency with tragedy and misfortune. The fact of the matter is that I truly believe that what the MSM tries to portray as the overwhelming majority (Palin, Tea Party, Limbaugh) is in reality a minority, a fanatical, divisive, vitriolic, hateful, vile, putrid minority. The President is well loved and well received almost everywhere he goes. The audience erupted with cheers, whistles, and thunderous applause in Missouri. The collective of ministers and spiritual leaders had genuine respect for the president. They held him in high regard and esteem. When the memorial service had concluded, President Obama connected with the crowd, he asked their names, inquired of their loss, bared their hurts. President Obama’s service was acknowledged, the burden he perpetually bears, his genuine interest for the people. I also believe that in this season people who were hesitant or suspicious of the President because of manufactured nonsense are now getting an opportunity to know him like we, Obama zealots, have known him. People try to co-opt the president’s brilliance, defame him, and more and more and more his light shines majestically . I think the reason for that is because the President connects with people in his speech he mentioned businesses, street names, local heroes who sacrificed their lives. People most adore, love, and cherish those who cultivate and nourish the seeds of greatness within himself.
This is a Christianity that I recognize, try to practice, and love – the imperative to Love Thy Neighbor, to walk in power in the scary unforgiving face of adversity, to hold onto hope, to receive God’s Grace-this is what Christ is about, this is what Christianity is about. When Gandhi said “I like your Christ but not your Christians” slowly but surely the Christians who endeavor to emulate Christ are peeking out and speaking boldly and with fervor on behalf of the President…. Glory be to God
Well stated.
I think their intent is to blockade the public from his brilliance. It’s one of the Rights last defense.
You stated that wonderfully well – thank you DC57
Very well said!
Yes, thanks DC57. Amen.
So true HZ. Amen and Amen. I feel like we are having us a revival!
Yes, I do also lisalovesobama. Revival it is.
Yep (LOL)…..a traditional Southern revival with large hats, paper fans, and modest dresses with light fabrics that sway in the breeze. there is also a pinic table with fried chicken, cole slaw, yeast rolls, and cool tea – oops, i’ve digressed *smile*
Thank you dc57!
‘HERE…BUT FOR THE GRACE OF GOD GO I’ SAID THE PRESIDENT…AND HERE STANDS A YOUTH IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RUBBLE WANTING THE PRESIDENT TO SIGN HIS T-SHIRT….OH MY…HOW BEAUTIFUL…:)
*tears up again* how sweet is that…..
THE PRESIDENT’S REFERENCE TO ‘AMAZING GRACE!’….WHAT A BEAUTIFULLY COMPASSIONATE MAN HE IS AND HE HAS SPENT MUCH OF THIS YEAR AT MEMORIAL SERVICES.
When he referenced ‘Amazing Grace’ and said the lines…. I just started bawling. The disaster that the people of Joplin and Tuscaloosa faced is just devastating. May the good Lord bless PBO for the comfort he bestowed on the people in Joplin and around the nation.
So true meta. I am crying tears of joy as well as hope from what he spoke to the people in Joplin as well as to us. This is the right man for this time. I could not leave because he just was giving such tender and loving hugs to the people as he moved along the line up front. We are so blessed my family here.
“charge” not chafe
Wow these picture really brings to light how how bad these people are having it there in Joplin. I have never seen distruction like that except in movies. I must confess and am very ashamed of this but if president Obama hadn’t gone there today this story would continue to be just another list on mother nature’s wrath to me. I knew more about the happenings in Moneygall, than how much some of my fellow Americans were suffering this week
but now I feel connected to those people, especially the young couples (that could be me and other half) and their small children. Hearing babies crying in the background just guts me. I have sent donation to Red Cross, please everyone do the same.
The whole memorial was just lovely. I thank God for giving us this president. He is always there for ALL of us. Red, blue, green, whatever…. he is there for us and we must be there for each other.
Going to donate now Kelly. I know what you mean.
Co-sign
A wonderful memorial service. All the speakers were inspiring. President Obama is, as someone said above, comforter in chief – pitch perfect, heartfelt, almost a long-distance hug – moved me to tears. How anyone can listen to him, especially in times like this, and fail to see the quality and level of his humanity rather than the claimed “aloofness” is beyond me. I watched it on the WH site. Was going to watch it on CNN but when a comment was made that McCain beat PO 2:1 in the general election and that some folks there in Joplin didn’t want him to come, I had to change the channel. Was happy to hear the reception from the real folks at the service first, just at the mention of his name, and then when he came onstage.
Well Jazz, listening to the people in the auidence when they introduce our President, they seem glad to see the President there.
Co-sign.
ps- I pity CNN and the dismal people who work there. It must be tough to continuously talk of hate and discord, to have to drum up drama where there is none. It must also be very difficult for them to look at themselves in the mirror each day as they cut and snipe and drag others down. It’s sad.
“…to have to drum up drama where there is none…” – so true. such a consise and true summary of what passes for news now. Thankfully, there are still sources of straight unbiased news reporting but I am especially thankful for this site and for The Only Adult in the Room for not only the daily quantity and quality of information, videos, etc. but also the great community with so many voices with so many back stories that add additional insight, interesting viewpoints, inspiration, humor and just LOL moments. I rarely make a comment but I check in daily and love both sites.
I know this should be a garbage free zone, but sometimes the MSM is just simply unreal. Why is political commentary appropriate at a memorial surface? It is of no consequence how PBO fared against McCain, he prevailed. I gave up on CNN during the storied heated 2008 Democratic primary – I felt their commentary was vicious towards PBO.
Yes – as soon as I saw that they were going to be crass enough to bring three year old political comparisons into the day, I just muted as much of their commentary as possible. They are not human, sometimes.
Thank you Ms. Chipsticks for the beautiful forum. There’s no place else out there like this wonderful community. Thanks for the videos and pictures today of the President and everyday. You give us a place to laugh and cry. We know we can come here and find love and comfort when our President is being bombarded or when he is being honored. Thank you so much, we love you.
oops, for this…
BEAUTIFUL WORDS DORIS…I AM SO TIRED OF TROLLS ON OTHER SITES.
Chipsticks,
The entire Joplin Speech by the President is here:
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/05/29/watch-live-obamas-speech-in-tornado-ravaged-joplin/
Good. I want to watch again. It was such a comforting, uplifting message. I was weepy the whole time, overcome by all that has befallen those people, all the difficulties that they will have to face for a long time to come, the meaningful words of their governor, the beautiful, inspiring words of President Obama and the loving, grateful response he received from the people there. Very memorable. President Obama always handles these difficult times in the best way possible, just magnificently.
Thanks for the link Donna. I so thank the Lord that we have a President such as Barack Obama. When he talked about the everyday heroes who gave their lives for family, friends and colleagues my heart just broke. I hope the people of Joplin know that a nation is behind them, prays for them and sends good wishes their way.
Now I’m going to watch c-span b/c they’re showing footage of PBO touring the areas in Joplin that were destroyed by the tornado and subsequently his speech.
I always have to watch his speeches more than once to get the full effect.
OUR ‘COMFORTER-IN-CHIEF!’
I had got up so early this morning, that the nearer 3pm came the more sleepy I got, but I am so glad I stayed awake to listen to our President speak, and he was great as usual. The entire program was moving and my heartfelt prayers goes out to those people.
O’Bama/Biden-2012!!!
Chipsticks, thank you for making us feel the love here. You bless all of us, and I am so grateful to you for all that you do. Thank you, Thank you, and Thank you.
I wish each and everyone of you a blessed afternoon;evening and night.May GOD protect the President on his flight back to Washington and may He bless and guide the President
much love to you all
Same to you hunni and I cosign with regards to the safety of our President Obama! One love everyone
Goodnight to you dear Fred. I hope your back is okay and I’ll see you tomorrow.
I can’t find enough words to express the profound love I have for our President. His message of hope to those of Missouri was so moving. I remember after the Oklahoma City bombing and then after 9/11 the stories of heroism being told about extraordinary people. I sobbed again today hearing of those who lost their lives helping others. God bless our beloved President.
The President’s compassionate and committed support for the people of Joplin is in stark difference to the selfish and inexplicable remarks of the heartless Eric Cantor.
I really could not respond after watching the President’s remarks. He made me feel the sorrow of what took place there in Joplin. I grieved for those who gave their lives to save friends and strangers alike. What really made me so emotional were the people of Joplin and the love they showed for President Obama. The MSM is truly trying to destroy our wonderful country with false reports of hate and divisiveness. May God help them and show them the errors of their ways.
Thanks for all of your comments today, Fred. Have a restful evening. Hope to see you tomorrow by God’s grace.
Wow!!! What a service!!! Peace, hope and renewal to all the residents of Jopli. Thanks a lot to the voluteers, President Obama, the Governor, Mayor, other local leaders, religous leaders and law enforcement for such a show of unity and community spirit.
It amazes me how President Obama can go daily from one place to another and give a speech so eloquent and appropriate for the circumstances. How beautiful were the words he spoke at the memorial service. I love Amazing Grace. The words are so meaninful. God has poured His Grace upon our leader and speaks through him to comfort the broken hearted in Joplin. Dear Heavenly Father please continue to pour the Grace of Your Holy Spirit upon our CIC giving him strength to fulfill the tastes that you have laid before him. Soften the hearts of those who cannot see his goodness and awaken their souls to understand that nothing can be accomplished with hate and envy.
Amen! Amen! Amen!
OK guys the entire Joplin speech is now on youtube:
I have just been able to watch President Obama’s beautiful speech at the memorial service at Joplin. OMG I haven’t stopped crying! What a moving speech. My heart breaks for the people of Joplin, they are in my thoughts and prayers. President Obama always speaks from the heart and he sure did today. He looked visibly moved by the end of his speech (from what I could see through my tears!) I can never say enough how I love and respect this great man. No one has ever had this effect on me before. My little boy just woke up and asked me if I was watching PBO speak and when I asked why he asked he replied that the only time he ever sees me cry is when the president speeks. i told him about the storm and what it had done and he said that he will pray for everyone hurt by the ‘naughty wind’
We are all so blessed to have such a compassionate man as President, he is awesome the way he cares so much for everyone.
God bless, comfort and keep the people of Joplin and may God bless President Barack Obama.
Good night all.
Sweet.
I’m in Chicago visiting family (drove past PBO’s house) and my sister doesn’t have cable so I just had a chance to see the speech. He brought me to tears. He also spoke to me personally when he said in times like these we always ask why. This is what I’ve been asking God about my beloved husband’s passing six weeks ago now. I found comfort in the President’s words that we may not know the answer but we can push forward and live as that loved one would want us too.
What an extraordinary man we have been given to lead us. The pundits, the stupid media, the heartless republicans all look so small, so petty and just so soulless compared to our great President. I pity them.
May God continue to bless President Obama.
Proud of Obama, what a lovely post. You have been on my mind today as I watched PBO, the tragedy is heartbreaking for everyone but the pain must hit home so much more for you in your own personal grief. I just want you to know that you are in my heart and in my prayers alongside all those suffering in Joplin. I can not begin to know what you are going through grieving your loss but I do understand loss having lost 2 children in infancy and I know how times like this can make the pain so raw. I am glad that you found some comfort in the words of your great president.
God bless you POB, and please know that you are in my prayers.
Proud, so glad you got to see this speech. It has such incredible power and strength of spirit. Take good care. You are in our thoughts.
You have been so strong these weeks, it’s been such an inspiration, Proud of Obama.
God Bless You Proud. I will keep you in my prayers beautiful spirit.
Bless you Proud, and I do pray you continue with your journey towards healing.
I have been busy volunteering all day and I just watched The president’s speech and my heart is so heavy. Am in tears right now. I have no words to say how I feel.
Bless you Me4Obama! were you volunteering in Missouri? Where ever you were your voluntary work, I am sure would me much appreciated. You are a very special person.
Sam UK, thanks for those kind words. Actually I was volunterring on behalf of OFA for the president’s reelection. We will not let up for a second because the negative forces are so big to ignore. Obama 2012.
Oh, Me4obama what tender and moving words you have just spoken. That is okay. Just be what you feel in this moment. Think of all of the joy you brought to someone in your volunteering. Just be in your space with you and your thoughts.A hug sent to you now.
For those who have a living breathing heart, I love how President Obama brings out the best in us.
Meta, that is one of the thoughts that came to be after I watched the President. Let us keep that best out there.
