I’m new to commenting here, but I’ve been a fan of your work and delightful sense of humor (as this post demonstrates) for some time.

I love coming here because (just as I feel after listening to our President) I always come away feeling inspired and uplifted. I’m almost 60, and I wondered if I would ever feel about a commander in chief the way my folks would talk about FDR or JFK. Well, now I’m blessed to say the time has come. This may sound silly, but I always think of President Obama as MY President, a leader who exhibits such grace under pressure in dealing with adversity.

Thank you, Chipsticks, for this wonderful website.

Hey Brian. Welcome to this wonderful site. I’m glad you’ve been checking in; looking at the posts and reading the comments. We’re always glad when one of our own leaves a comment. It makes us glad that more and more people are finding this slice of heaven. Like you, we admire OUR President and I’ve heard older people compare him to the hope, idealism and optimism of JFK and the can do attitude of FDR. I’m glad you’ve had a chance to admire and experience a leader like PBO just as your folks experienced FDR and JFK. I hope you’ll keep visiting and leave more comments. Once again, welcome Brian.

      Lovely post Brian and WELCOME!

With all the negativity out there, we have someone like Chipsticks posting the positive stuff on her website. My head hurts when I speak to some co-workers or watch TV about anything politics and this is where I come to calm down knowing that this President is working his butt off for us.

Please let your family and friends know about this site and invite them. No one will be turned away (unless they are offensive). Positive/constructive comments are always welcome!

    Chipstics,

    Fantastic post!!!!

a minor “ommision” from the 2008 Presidential campaign that you could consider adding (i) there is is a VERY FINE photo of Candidate Obama playing billiards and hitting the ball from back – possibily with some of his college-age supporters; (ii) of course one of his less-than stellar performances at the bowling alley in Allentown Pennsylvania (if I recall correctly); (iii) and yes there are those not so fine moments in the baseball stadiums.

I have read reports that President Obama is a very good chess player (as reported from his time in Springfield Illinois. It would be nice to see such a photo because I believe he uses this technique even in politics

        June 4, 2011 at 7:09 pm

Yes, and that’s how he got some of the Repubs to agree to some of his policy ideas, the respect and friendship developed around the poker table. Of course that was back in the day when there were still decent, moderate, semi-sane Republicans.
And of course there is that 3 point shot, nothing but net, when he was a candidate at the military base. Too many beautiful, remarkable moments to include.

@Kesai, ITA! This man will be sought after for EVERYTHING long after his 2nd term is over. It’ll be a matter of balancing it out and weighing their cons. However he plans out his life post President, I pray that he’ll continue to put his family first.

Classic. Thanks for this Lisa and bjw2. No wonder that gutless twerp paul ryan is trying to ram mediscare down our throats. I’m sorry, but anyone who loves ayn rand’s principles, calls it a fount of morality or a foundation for their beliefs needs to go examine himself/herself. The woman is selfish. Not everyone has to believe in God or a higher power, but to denigrate those who do is unfair. She believes in only capitalism, not looking out for one another, casting the middle and working class aside. She even donated to a bunch of repubs in her time. How can one who benefited so much from America preach these principles and others follow her like blind idiots. Ewwww…. my stomach is churning in disgust. I hope the dems and others make this video viral and put it on all tv stations in all 50 states.

well, I wonder if on her day of reckoning, she still viewed God and religion as a “psychological weakness….[and] a thing of evil.” Paul Ryan is an idiot who will reap what he’s sown for all the trouble he’s caused in his time in congress.
ps- whether not not there is a God, our world’s foundation is balance. So you do unto others, so shall it be done unto you, call it karma or just universal justice or rightness.

              Hey Karen,

Welcome to our wonderful family. I’m glad you discovered this website and decided to comment. This is a haven from the madness being perpetuated by the mainstream media day in day out. You are right that the good old Rev. Riley said “We Will Not Be Silent” and sites likes this that gives us info in the form of news articles, op-eds and relevant video clips and contact info for the media, let our voices be heard. I hope the video from the religious group goes viral and keeps on playing ad nauseam in Ryan’s district. That’ll teach him not to disregard the middle class and seniors who deserve to be treated with dignity and respect b/c they’re worth as much as the wealthiest 2% in the country.

So once again, welcome Karen and I hope you visit the site often, feel like a part of our family and post more comments. :)

The delusion is that these people think that they are self sufficient. They are so grandiose in their thinking. They suck on the government teat as much and more than the average American or the poorest of the poor, think oil subsidies as a case in point. They have always got their hands out. Twisted thinking. And who will buy their products, or invest their monies into their ventures, or use their financial services, if they destroy the well being and the opportunities of 98% of our citizenry to support and better themselves. By brother thinks they are attempting to drag us back to a type of slavery based economy. We need to find our way to the middle of both extremes, we need balance. We are always both seperate and part of the whole. If they can not recognize social costs and benefits they should find their own island.

OT…was doing a little reading today about Roger Ailes, The Southern Strategy and Republican Strategy. Ailes, it was noted was a close and personal friend of Barbara Walters.
Explains alot, and IMO why she is always kissing Palin’s shrively ass.

I just read the article and once again thanks bjw2. I’m glad it’s not only dems who are highlighting the folly and danger of paul ryan’s mediscare plan. I’m glad the religious sect are hammering him with facts and anger. Ryan espouses the theories of ayn rand to highlight the “benefits” of his plan. This woman practiced a theory she coined “The Ethics of Selfishness.” That alone should tell anyone that if paul ryan likes her principles and praises it for championing of capitalism, selfish individualism and used it as the foundation for mediscare – he and the bill are infectious and dangerous. Thank goodness the religious group American Values Network is running this ad in ryans district. More people need to be made aware of the soul destroying parts of this bill. (which is basically every part of it)

          June 4, 2011 at 8:15 pm

These people seem demonic to me. I know that might be strong for some people, but they really scare me. There was a guy on Rachel last year, tlaking about the Family – the houseful of Republicans in Washington who all live together and provide “guidance” to one another on how to hide their affairs, etc. Well, there was a guy who wrote a book after living among them for a year. Among many of his observations, he said that these folks think that the teachings of Jesus were misinterpreted, and that the real teachings are about going after wealth, and not helping the poor; that those who are “chosen” are given talents to make money, and are rulers of everyone else. This video needs to go far and wide – it’s quite frightening what is fuelling the actions of these people, but it really does explain a lot about why they are such zealots for sticking it to the less fortunate and self-righteous about the “morality” of their greed. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, but these people seem to be operating in a very dark universe, with a whole different set of rules.

And I sweetly but firmly tell them, ” if your ways DO NOT square with God’s word(which they say they believe in and read daily), then you really need to examine yourselves and see if you are really in the faith.”They look at me strangly and then try to put so of their lies on the table again, and I dismiss them by reading the scriptures that show the opposite of what they are really showing others with their ugly deeds and actions. They shut up quickly.

How did he get so high up on the bar in the Gym? His feet are way up compared to the American Flag. Just gotta love them all. Ok, I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer on this amazing post, Chipsticks,

But once again, I’m scoping out the opposition, reading about the candidates, listening to how they speak/interact with voters, and while the Muppet list is definitely dwindling to Romney, Pawlenty, Bachmann and Huntsman, I just want to again say that we definitely need to keep an eye on Huntsman. He has serious political skills (aside from the Sarah Palin faux-pas) and speaks like a moderate, which has cross-over appeal. I watched the Faith Summit for all the candidates and that guy, once he picks up campaigning, will be better than Romney or the other clowns. Remember, candidate Obama said himself that it took him a few months to get campaigning down. His AP interview is a preview of things to come.

    http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5iuoHUTn1V6vsIDAxTaGkkHME2dgQ?docId=6b123a0c8d9d468b82f962e95a569d80

He’s talking about serious issues and agrees with POTUS that defense cuts and taxes are on the table. He also doesn’t believe in agricultural subsidies. Republicans want to win and I think he can win the nomination by bypassing Iowa since it’s so crazy there, letting the independents in NH give him the momentum. And don’t underestimate how he looks on television. More presidential than any of the other clowns the GOP is putting up.

Bachmann is going to enter the race and either win Iowa or come in second to Pawlenty. I doubt Romney can win Iowa with the evangelical right there. He’s probably going to half-ass it anyway. Huntsman is going for the kill on Romney in NH, and then onto SC, and Florida and the rest. I think he can definitely beat Romney in NH, do well in SC, and win in Florida. But he’s got more juice than BLAH-lenty when it gets to the Super Tuesday.

POTUS’ game plan is starting up too and we’re getting a head start on the organizing! http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/05/us/politics/05obama.html?hp

Axelrod seems to be doing lots of work to lay the groundwork so POTUS can start campaigning next year. Nobody is a better political athlete than Obama and it will be fun to watch. But we’ve got to remember, if unemployment is still high, independents are going to be susceptible to the hoodwinking of the GOP. So, while we laugh at the idiots like Gingrich, Palin, Romney, Cain, even the Obama team thinks things will be much closer this time around, so we’ve got to watch out for the “real candidates” and make sure this guy, Huntsman, doesn’t win.

Hey halo, I’m with you on ALL candidates. No matter how silly or weak we may think one or all of them are, my eyes are always on the ball. Heck this country elected GW twice! The msm thinks the quitter is a pot of gold and Romney despite his abhorrent record as governor of Massachusetts (MA was 47th out of 50 states in job creation when romney was governor from 2003-2007)is still being touted as more economically proficient than PBO. I know PBO is more than capable of facing them head-on but we’ve all got to be on the look out and do everything we can to make sure PBO wins. B/c the msm sure as heck aint gonna do anything good for our guy.

      Halo,

In order to gain the GOP nomination, Huntsman has no choice but to swing to far right, which he has already started. So he’s going to have to engage in some serious flip-flopping to get the GOP nomination as well as to appeal to moderate Independents in the general election. For example, I think Hunstman has a bit of a problem there:

      http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/06/jon-huntsman-the-ryan-budget-lovingest-republican-ever.php

I’m not saying that we should ignore him, but I just don’t see him as that formidable an opponent. He is boring and doesn’t seem all that Presidential. There is a reason that the media is still keeping him hidden relative to Romney and the others. Like the majority of the Republican candidates, the more exposure Huntsman gets, the worse he will seem to voters. The opposite is true of President Obama.

    • 105 bjw2
      June 4, 2011 at 8:42 pm

I agree, he can do damage by attacting the more moderate voters, but he has also flipped-flopped on a couple of key issues. He’s going to be a hard sell in the south because of his stance on Civil unions.

I heard one political anylist say that, with the republican field such that it is, this could end in a open convention this year, and if that happens all hell is going to break loose in the republican party.

    • 106 theo67
      June 4, 2011 at 9:12 pm

The good thing about Huntsman is that he would allow the President to talk about real policy issues, and not swat down nonsense from the other joke candidates. He would be able to point out the rationale behind his decisions, spell out his vision, and display his awesome intellect. I’m not really scared of Huntsman, because he’s either going to espouse the same failed Republican policies, or have to agree that the President’s policies are working and will continue to work. Why would we change horses? And there really aren’t enough racists in the country to just vote for a White version of the President, if he decides to go the moderate, sensible route (at least, I hope there aren’t).

      June 5, 2011 at 12:06 am

Halo, I share your analysis, and your concern. In fact, I’ve had the same concern as yours for quite some time. And I don’t know why everyone is talking about Romney. I have no doubt that independants would choose President Obama over him. Romney isn’t “clicking” with Americans. His stance on the auto bailout completely destroyed his argument of being “competent” on business and economy. His flip=floppings on Health Care make him look opportunistic and “politician” in the worst sense of the word.

I think it will be imperative to publicize the links of Huntsman with the Koch Brothers, and the incredible power the Koch Brothers have in America. Think Progress produced a fantastic document about them some weeks ago. I’ll find the link and post it some time soon.

There’s no doubt in my mind that President Obama can win reelection, but I’m with the WH on this: it won’t be as easy as people think and it will necessitate efforts and unity.

        June 5, 2011 at 7:10 pm

I agree Huntsman will be a strong candidate. But let’s remember that in order for him to meet the so-called demands of the far right, he is already flipping on some of the issues for which he stood as a reasonable moderate. He recently endorsed the Ryan budget which includes doing away with Medicare as we know it and would give senior vouchers.

The media may try to gloss over these tid bits, but it will be up to us to continue to remind them so that stuff like this is not swept under the rug.

And finally, if Huntsman is one that Plouffe and the Admin are concerned about, I can bet my bottom dollar that they are not sitting around waiting from him to be sprung up on us. Still, it is good for us to keep our wits about us and try to keep two steps in front of these guys.

So great to come here andd at BWD where we can get such wonderful and enlightening discussions.

      June 5, 2011 at 9:30 am

      Halo,

I agree with your assessment that Huntsman is a reasonable conservative. That’s why David Plouffe feared a Huntsman run for presidency and the media assumed that’s why Obama selected him as the Ambassador to China.

Here’s a video of a Huntsman interview in favor of a federal mandate of health insurance. This will change the conversation really fast in public debates.

First there was Gingrich, then Romney and in 2007 Huntsman all favoring a mandate. Huntsman actually favored a federal mandate.

When news breaks of Pawlenty’s work on climate change legislation and his and Huntsman’s support of Cap and Trade legislation, the voters will have plenty to think about.

If all these conservatives thought mandates and Cap and Trade were viable solutions, are they Socialists out to destroy America, too?

      • 110 hopefruit2
        June 5, 2011 at 10:12 am

Huntsman does hold a lot of “moderate” positions on key issues. I guess that’s why the question for me still remains how exactly is he going to get the GOP nomination without tacking to the far-right and flip-flopping on these positions? Right now, Huntsman is among the LEAST popular as a candidate among GOP voters, so in order to increase his visibility and appeal he has no choice but to swing to the right – a choice that would by necessity force him to abandon (publicly) all his “moderate” positions – the very positions that he would need to attract moderate Independents in a general election.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all these pictures. I remember most of them, but some of them I haven’t seen before, and each one is a treasure. He looks so YOUNG in that picture with Sasha! I’m afraid we have aged him….beautifully. Brian, I know what you mean about MY president. Kennedy was that way for me for 2 1/2 years, and there’s been noone else until now. My husband and I, both of us more senior than anyone else on this blog, think of him as our president. He is, simply put, amazing. JFK had charisma and smarts, but President Obama has heart in addition. He has a good soul, and I trust him.

    • June 4, 2011 at 10:06 pm

Yes, Carolyn, I am of the generation of Kennedy. So I am elated to see some lovely seniors here laughing, crying, learning, sharing, and caring together as a loving family with Chipsticks, our precious gem. I concur JFK has the intellect and charisma also, and Our President now has all of that and a beautiful way of sharing it openly. I trust him, respect his goodness within his heart, and his beautiful soul to care for others. We are so blessed to be living during President Obama’s Presidency.
