Goodnight, Chips, and thanks for another day full of great information and discussion.

FYI – For anyone who didn’t see the very interesting interview with Janny Scott on her book ‘A Singular Woman: The Untold Story of Barack Obama’s Mother’ last night on Charlie Rose, here is the video:

Looking forward to reading this book!

I love this woman Janny Scott. She has such enthusiasm and pleasure in the work she does and obviously admires both PBO and his mother. I have the book ordered and am eagerly watching the mail every day. :)

I liked her enthusiasm too, WoS. I didn’t watch this interview, but I thoroughly enjoyed the previous one done with some Major or other last week. I got the sense that she ‘got to know’ and respected Stanley Ann, and I liked the way she seemed really knowledgeable about her subject.

Thanks a million, meta. I missed it. I love Charlie Rose but he comes on so late here that I sometimes fall asleep. Wouldn’t have known that Janny Scott was on if you hadn’t posted.

He comes on twice where I live, once at 8pm and again at midnight. I just happened to catch this interview and I’m really impressed with the author. I know you’ll enjoy it, too!

MeNight, Chipsticks. I am just starting to read for today. I was out trying to do a favor for my dear neighbor, so my computer reading is now not rushed. I am so grateful to you all for your great well of information, and especially grateful to Chipsticks for being so patient and loving with all of us. Chipsticks, your parents should be so proud of you. You treat the seniors , and all of us for that matter with so much respect. Plus you make this little senior feel so much a part of the beautiful family here. You know that I have adopted ALL of this family as my wonderful loving family. It is like having all of the grandchildren coming over to check on their loving grandmother. I did that when I was young with my grandparents, and it is a great feeling. So thank you so much for this beautiful site, Chipsticks. I love you all .

Meta thanks for posting the link to the interview with Janny Scott on President Obama’s mother. It was very interesting. Would love to know more about his mother and their relationship.

have you guys seen the trailer for Midnight In Paris- it looks like a comedy. Well two minutes ago I saw it and I could swear that I saw Carla Brune(Sarkozy) in it. In the clip I saw she was a guide wearing a white shirt (?) and jeans showing one of the main characters a statue and discussing it’s history. I’m pretty sure it’s her unless she has an identical twin. She looked good. I was so surprised! The first lady of France in a movie while her husband is in office?!!! Awesome! I’m 99.9% sure it was her….unless my eyes are playing games. I saw her twice in the clip, at first I though I was seeing things, then a second chance came about to see her and I’m sure it’s her, if it’s not, I’ll take my own advice and eat my shorts. Am I hallucinating? Please, someone, anyone, let me know either way.

Yup! It’s her. See the link. She plays a museum guide. Your shorts are safe! No need to dine on them tonight :)

I watched the movie last weekend – it’s lovely to see Paris in all its splendour, and all the history embedded in the movie. I love history, and I was stumped at some of the references – so a lot to look up! . It’s a really lovely little movie, and Carla Bruni was pleasant in the movie, too.

So this is the great business man. Let Detroit go bankrupt. Who cares about all the people who would lose their job. Let the auto companies go bankrupt. Wake up Americans, no things aren’t great, we have along way to go, but Mitt Romney or any other Republican will get us ther.

Yes, meta, I concur with you. I have never seen such fun, warm, very respectful President and Vice President as we have seen with these two wonderful men. I love seeing them together. Yes, meta, I pray that I will live to be able to read their books.( I am going on 67,) and I just hope and pray that I will be able to sit in my library and read their books. I hope that my eyes will be fine, and my mind will be fine. Now these are the historical books by a President and Vice President that should be great reading. Pray meta for me please that this will come true.

Yes, I hope Biden makes millions from books in the future. He deserves it – after 30 years in the Senate, and not coming out a millionaire, shows he was able to resist the corruption. People like him deserve their just rewards.

REPOST… Instead of talking about Weinter’s weiner, HERE is the issue that needs to be front and center….

Following a time-honored Washington tradition of dumping required but embarrassing information on a Friday night before a major holiday, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas finally released the details of his wife’s income from her year or so working for the tea party group Liberty Central, which fought President Obama’s health care reform law. His new financial disclosure form indicates that his wife, Virginia, who served as Liberty Central’s president and CEO, received $150,000 in salary from the group and less than $15,000 in payments from an anti-health care lobbying firm she started.

The disclosure was apparently prompted in part by Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.), who had been needling Thomas (including on Twitter) for months to disclose how much money his wife earned from Liberty Central.

Read the rest of the story here…

Will Clarence Thomas Recuse Himself on Health Care Reform?

For those still awake on the West Coast – I was just watching these videos. The Lawrence O’Donnell one is very interesting, and I hope that the DCCC makes something of it. Why are Republicans swearing pledges to special interest groups, which will ultimately override their commitments to the oath of office? If there’s a reason to raise taxes for the good of the welfare of the people, and they supersede that commitment in favor of the pledge, that would be a dereliction of duty, wouldn’t it? Are they then opening themselves up to impeachment? I hope someone asks them this question. These are very dangerous people. I sometimes have sleepless nights thinking of the damage they could do to the entire world…

Seething at Jon Stewart again. All the Republican candidates have probably already sent him big thank you notes as he spent the whole opening of his show tonight slamming Obama on the economy and then topped it off by a segment mocking African Americans for overwhelmingly supporting Obama for his skin tone. The whole thing could have been paid for by the RNCC. It was a Republican infomercial. Stewart continues to do a lot of damage, especially because his audience is the young demographic which we will need in big numbers. What is wrong with him? What is his deal? What is the motivation here? He prefers Romney? Palin? Stupid and idiotic and infuriating.

I don’t want Jon Stewart anymore. He just makes my blood boil, and I don’t need that. Luckily, I think the youth are smarter than that.

        June 9, 2011 at 8:30 am

The youth are a LOT smarter than that – as Mr. Stewart will soon find out. No amount of comedy in the form of sarcasm and lies can substitute for the truth of tireless hard work that the President embodies.

He’s so dumb. I loved how he spent almost two years demoralizing his viewers in terms of PBO then, right before the Nov. elections thought that his stupid rally would be enough to get people out to vote. What a total and absolute Douche! In what universe does that make sense? You spend a year and a half smacking people down then spend a day turning on the love and you expect great results. What an assmonkey! People like him and the other Parasite Losers are never happy unless they are TRULY miserable and that would be under a repug president, where they can cry and complain as much as they like. It’s not enough that they get 85% of what they want, it’s ALL or NOTHING for them, and right now, they know they can’t get all, so they are pulling for nothing. I bet my entire checking account that Stewart won’t vote in 2012. He’s just asshole enough to sit at home repeating Bush’s favorite mantra: “Fool me once shame on you…..ah…fool me twice…you, you can’t fool me twice….” Asshole. :x
ps-did I mention how much I hate Stewart?

Most days he pisses me off too. I just watch him as a lead in to the big kahuna: Stephen Colbert. Colbert has been on point for months on end now. His sarcasm and wit is always directed to the right people: idiots and repugs. His genius is so subtle and sometimes in your face. In my opinion Colbert should win the Emmy over Stewart this year b/c Colbert has been covering newsworthy stories without the malicious intent of Stewart and the msm. He held former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge’s feet to the fire when he interviewed him on hydraulic fracturing (fracking) of natural gas. We all know natural gas would be a better option but fracking should be done in a safe manner and should not endanger peoples lives.

      Turn him off…

Jon is only returning to his dedicated gig…To perpetually denigrate and hopefully help defeat President Obama…

His ferocity tonight would probably be attributed to the fact that their concerted campaign against President Obama has temporarily lost the raucous voice of Anthony Weiner …

Jon has had to slam his good friend Weiner hard these past few days just so he can keep up the appearance of being ‘unbiased’ and a ‘truth-teller’…

Now to deflect from Weiner, he returns to his prime target all along – President Obama…

Jon Stewart is a spiteful, conniving, agenda-driven, cowardly weasel…I might even venture that he is racist …

The contempt uous and derisive attitude towards President Obama is very telling especially in its very personal and dripping tone…

But Jon will get what he Karmically deserves…It’s only a matter of time now…

Hi Mama Chips and all you Chip siblings! I trust that all goes well, and the ladies are behaving – I glimpsed a few appreciative comments before literally falling asleep last night? I miss you all terribly as I continue to endure forced withdrawal symptoms. My two new young guests continue to require constant supervision, :( and as one is too young to be in school, there’s currently ‘no rest’ (i.e. no day-time TOD) for me. When I do peek in at night after clean-up etc. my eyes just won’t stay open long enough to read the day’s entries. Not to mention that the one time I tried to comment I felt really out of the loop, as most of you had said it all, then gone to bed. :( Okay, okay, I AM feeling sorry for myself, but that won’t help, [end of pity party] so I’m going to try and catch up on some reading here before sleep catches up with me tonight. Good night all, sleep tight, and have a terrific Thursday when you awaken! :)

Oh VC, you poor thing, you sound exhausted. Are these ‘permanent’ visitors, or do you just have them for a short while? When will we get you back?!

Every channel you put on are Obama has failed on the economy and the republicans will have it easy!
I cannot believe how much everyone in the msm has picked sides against this president.
CNN headlines there poll: Obama dips in the latest poll to 48 percent on feats of a depression.
    WTF? Really?

At times he has come on TV and attacked the President too. I guess he is behaving himself since the President visited Ohio last week and he saw how genuinely respectful and grateful the folks on the ground are of President OBama. I guess he has finally come to realize and accept that his true constituency represents the struggling folks of Ohio and not the largely privileged set of Libertarian male bloggers on DKOS. Alan Grayson learnt this the hard way.
