‘obama impersonator makes racial, gay jokes at gop gathering’ (updated with reply from that idiot’s agent)

Washington Post: A President Obama impersonator brought down the house Saturday at the Republican Leadership Conference, telling a string of racially themed jokes about the president.

The impersonator, Reggie Brown, took the stage at the annual presidential cattle call to the Bruce Springsteen song “Born in the USA” – an allusion to the birther controversy.

A sampling of what followed:

• On Black History Month: “Michelle celebrates the full month. I celebrate half.”

• “My mother loved a black man,” but “she was not a Kardashian.”

• A picture was shown of Obama and the first lady when he took office. The impersonator then showed a picture of what the Obamas will look like when the president leaves office, and it was the characters of Fred Sanford and his sister-in-law, Ethel, from the show “Sanford and Son.”

• Of Tim Pawlenty’s decision not to criticize Mitt Romney at Monday’s debate: “[CNN’s] John King served him up a ball softer than Barney Frank’s backside.” (Frank is a gay member of Congress from Massachusetts.)

….Eventually, Brown was ushered offstage by the man who introduced him. Conference organizers did not immediately respond to questions about why Brown was ushered offstage or whether his jokes were approved in advance.

Full post here

****

Thanks to Lisa for this – from GOPolitico: “Brown didn’t just limit his jokes to Obama, though. He also mocked Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith, ridiculed Newt Gingrich’s faltering campaign and suggested Tim Pawlenty needed a spinal transplant.

As Brown was preparing to make a Michele Bachmann joke, one of the conference’s officials came out to the lectern and told the comedian to leave the stage.”

So they were okay with the racist, homophobic stuff, they drew the line at him making jokes about Bachmann?

Oh boy.

****

Our very own GGail contacted Reggie Brown’s agent (info@williamgold.com) – this is the reply she got:

“We’ve done the same speech in Harlem for a black advocacy group that we support and they laughed. It’s called comedy and I’m sorry that you don’t understand. The press is spinning this out of control and we would appreciate support from the public rather than falling into a media trap. Reggie is being used by the media both on the right and the left so that they can score political points at his expense. Our show was nothing more than political comedy that goofed on both sides; it wad no worse than what President Obama did at his own White House Correspondence Dinner.
Please support us…we need your help.”

One more example of Republican racism. I also don’t know where they manage to dig up these self-loathing blacks who willingly demean themselves for the entertainment of the racists who hate them. Very sad all around.

there is something tragic, appalling, and loathsome about such blacks. not everything should have a price tag, including one’s dignity and self-respect. the Right has made it abundantly clear that they are not trying to win votes in 2012 by a debate over policy but rather appeals to blatant racisim. this is disgusting and revolting. these are people who want to lead this country? and they cannot even lead themselves to be gracious and inclusive. i also wonder about people of color who are republicans, this sits well with you? i feel dirty just even looking at this nonsense

I totally agree with you, DreamChaser57. It’s revolting. President Obama is all about individual dignity, and treating people with respect. There’s no excuse for anyone using his family, especialy his mother, for cheap jokes. The world is more diverse and yet these racist bigots think they can somehow lead the world when they hold people of color in such low esteem. They will be left behind, one way or another.

Again, I will quote JC Watts, Sr, father of JC Watts, Jr, a Republican former US Rep from Oklahoma.

J.C. Watts, Sr., to his son “A black man voting Republican is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders.” That sums it up pretty clearly for me. Racism has some very evil, psychologically damaging effects.

Off topic, but not really… Here is one such example of the damaging affects of racism on some African Americans.

Actually the impact is not just on African-Americans. There is evidence of this dislike for dark skin/features among Latinos and Asians of every ethnic group as well. It’s not only because of slavery but due to colonialism.

HI Hopefruit2. Oh, how I know that to be true. But I didn’t say that it was only African American, just that this particular documentary addresses the effects as they relate to African Americans. I think folks on this site may be more attuned than most, but it really is a difficult conversation to have.

The initial issue was the idiot who impersonated Pres. Obama at a Republican “Leadership” conference event. There wouldn’t be enough money in the world or enough zeroes on that paycheck for me to have performed that routine. I don’t care how much I wanted the ‘big break’ or whatever he thought he was getting out of the deal. What a sad, sad, man.

No it isn’t just for Afro-Americans. Once whilst travelling a high-yellow in Trinidad told me off in front of my travelling companions (I’m of Jamaican heritage) because I have “orange” skin. Listen to me, I sound just as bad. It’s a shame isn’t it that we want and strive to be accepted by white people and we can’t do it amongst ourselves!

Hey isonprize I’m with you. As a minority myself, I can never understand how any ethnic minority or otherwise can with full faith and conscience vote republican. It’s like a person with low self esteem dating a sadist. How can this so called “comedian” think his jokes were in any way funny. They were vile, disgusting and reprehensible.

Thanks Sue DS. I think adults also need to be frank about their own issues. And there are some “liberals” who are truly the worst offenders. And of course, they would be highly offended to be called racist. But the affects of racism are deep seated and difficult to easily identify. And thus, equally difficult to address and rectify.

But this site isn’t about that. I am always heartened to see/read/hear the diversity of support for this wonderful man who decided that he would do his best to serve us as citizens of these United States of American. Barack H. Obama is our best hope. I’m helping to register new voters in Philadelphia. We’ve got our work cut out for us. I’m in!!!

Thank you for posting this. My son told me about this a while back and I hadn’t had a chance to watch it until now. I have a very dark skinned son and daughter and one very fair-skinned daughter……I’m in between….I found myself always defending my dark skinned kids. People would come to my desk at work and say things like, are these your kids? oh, this one is cute. I would proudly answer back and say all my kids are beautiful. It was so hard……even some of my own family members would often make that distinction and try to make a difference in my children, I wasn’t having it. It even caused the light skinned daughter think that I loved the others more because I didn’t make a difference in her like others did, that I must didn’t love her as much. People need to wise up and realize that beauty comes in many shades. Stupidity like that hurts very badly.

all my kids are beautiful. Ms Maggie, GOOD FOR YOU!! My mother did the same thing. She was very fair skinned and my father was dark skinned. We came out in the middle. She was adamant about that kind of stuff. She also said ‘all hair is good hair” But that’s a whole other talk show! :)

I totally agree with you DreamChaser! This is the problem when people have been conditioned to believe that making money tramps a person’s desire for self esteem. If you get a chance check out a film produced and Directed by Marlon Riggs, entitled “ETHNIC NOTIONS: Black People in White Minds” (You can get from California Newsreel in San Francisco, but for some reason I can locate their address but I am sure you can find it on line). It really highlights the tragedy of African American actors, during the 1920′s-1950′s, who participated in perpetuating racial stereotypes of black people because that was the only avenue open to them to get into the movies and make money.

It would be interesting to find out how much money Reggie Brown was paid to impersonate President Obama, while at the same time he was making a fool of himself. Reggie Brown is indeed tragic. White racists Republicans used him for their purpose of trying to defeat the President, they will never look at him as their equal. As soon as they realize their goal, Reggie Brown will be history. At the same time, if along the way Reggie gets in any trouble, he will quickly re-discover the importance of race pride and seek the help and support from the same Black people that he is now making fun of.

    • June 18, 2011 at 7:17 pm

And do you think the Impersonator thinks that the Repugs are letting him off the hook???? I just wonderIf he thinks that the Repugs are on his side????? Why do some of US do this???? It’s embarrassing, and shameful :-( Now this burns me up big time. I do not like this kind of stuff :-(

      • 16 nathkatun7
        June 18, 2011 at 11:17 pm

Luci, You ask “Why do some of US do this?” Very simple: some of us have been indoctrinated to love money more than we love our own self esteem! I bet you Reggie Brown was paid lots of money to demean the President and the First Lady, without realizing that he was also, unwittingly, demeaning himself and the entire African American community. He may also be thoroughly mis-educated in believing in white supremacy.

As the great Historian Carter G. Woodson taught, if you mis-educate a black person to believe in the doctrines of white superiority and black inferiority, you don’t even need laws to tell him/her to go to the back of the bus; he/she would automatically do that. An equally devastating ideology is the one that teaches us to value money above everything else.

Hahahahaha—-racism!—-so funny! And the impersonator?—-I guess some people will do anything for money. Ugh.
And just to add to the hilarity—-I read they played “Hail to the Chief” for Michelle Bachmann. Ay yi yi.

Exactly. They figured since the dems have a black man as President, then we’ll do the same to fool everyone into believing we’re a big tent and diverse party. It’s the same reason why they have a token black person at every tea party rally so on tv and sunday morning talk shows they can deny that they’re not racists. Frankly, it’s fake and sickening.

LHM Sherijr, I was just thinking this in my kitchen not even 30 minutes ago, and here I find you noted the same observation. Bin Laden was the main draw during the remainder of Bush’s term which garnered him decent approval ratings as long as the fear factor was ratcheted up. Then he never gets the man, yet people still approved of him. PBO comes along and kills the man, yet he gets treated like yesterdays trash. I tell you, America is being destroyed from the inside out with its putrid hatred of all things black. I am watching while America is beginning to suffer a myriad of miserable events, and people wonder why?

Proud, just sent this to Chris and Lawrence:

          Dear Chris and Lawrence,
Since the MSM have taken leave of their senses, ethics and professionalism, it has been left up to millions of concerned citizens to find our news elsewhere and on our own. However, because you two appear to be the only remotely sane individuals remaining, and because in todays society news just isn’t news unless it’s dirty, salacious, crap, several of us have pooled together, hunted down the most important news we could find today and are sending them to you. It is our hope that you actually read these articles and watch the video, then do a little research and report on them. Since we can’t rely on journalists to do what they went to school for four years to do, it appears we must do it for them and spoon feed it to the actual media people we know won’t totally cock it up. Please spend less time delivering Republican talking points for them and more time actually engaging in fair, balanced and fact checked reporting.
ps- Chris, the liberals have gone nowhere and much to Ms. Huff and Puff’s dissatisfaction, we will not be “breaking up” with the president. This important fact which Ms. Arianna The Opportunist fails to recognize, is beautifully illustrated by Gallup’s report that 90% of Liberals support the president.

          http://pollingmatters.gallup.com/2011/06/little-change-in-liberal-democrats.html

pps- please stop waiting for news to be dropped on your laps and actually research for and evaluate articles telling the truth about what’s happening in the world. There are millions of people who have families, work 9am-5pm jobs, who still manage to read and investigate in order to know what’s going on in the world. If they can do it when it’s not their jobs, why the hell can’t you? Also, instead of focusing entire segments of your viewerships’ time on malcontents like Dan Choi-who at best can be described as a radical, selfish, attention whore, and at worse- a sociopath or excuse me, concurrent with DSM IV definitions, a person with Anti-social Personality Disorder, please focus on doing actual reporting and not the latest fad in the news cycle.

I am with you Proud. In addition to letting the so-called MSM know that this is unacceptable, the point we need to harp on is that these guys were OK using deregoratory and racists jokes about the President and the First Lady, but had enough when the guy started talking about Republicans. We should not let up on this until it becomes a mainstream story. If this had happened at a Democratic event, Fox news would have played it loop after loop, and not for just a day but for as long as it took the other so-called liberal media folks to pick it up and run with it.

We should force it so that, everytime a Republican Congressman or candidate opens his mouth in front a mike, that should be the first question posed to them. Remember what we just went through with Weiner?

We can’t let up. For those with facebook and those who know how to tweet, please, please get on this. I only e-mail but that will be my mode of communication with the media.

And in golf summit news—–Obama and Boehner—–beat Biden/Kasich on the 18th hole and won 2 bucks each. Didn’t realize poor Barack had to have Crybaby Rusty for a partner but I guess that makes sense. At least Rusty was on the winning team so no excuse to break down in tears. The foursome then enjoyed a beverage on the patio and watched the U.S. Open before they visited service men and women.

I think the President is trying to bring back the days when the parties could enjoy time together outside the Congressional floors. The unfortunate thing is that the calibre of today’s Republican is not of the type that a sane and decent person would willingly spend their free time. I feel sorry for Biden that he had to spend time with Kasich. But, glad the thing went off without any theatrics.

In my view, Brown was naive to believe that he would even have an opportunity to say anything disparaging about the Republicans. Years ago, Brian McKnight performed at the Republican convention, I was like eeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I do realize that blacks as a collective are not monolithic and are entitled to make individual decisions. I just found it so distasteful…..yuckies

OT: It seems Huntsman paid people so he could come in second in the straw poll at this KKK gathering. The man is a snake. (Sorry for linking to GOPolitico)

“Rumors circulated here that Huntsman campaign had paid for supporters to attend the conference and a spokesman for the candidate, Tim MIller, didn’t deny that they had.

“Not commenting on internal strategy,” said Miller, adding: “The result demonstrates that young conservatives are responding to his record of success in Utah, willingness to take the debt problem seriously, and foreign policy message,”

I wish I could be surprised by this but I am not. This is just a continuation from the McClain/Palin ticket. Remember their events had turned into basically racists gatherings. This part of the party have taken over the Repubs and they will not let go of it. They never saw a Barack Obama coming! Most AA didn’t see a Barack Obama coming. They are angry, old, scared white people…that can be led around by the nose by a party that isn’t even the same party they knew once upon a time.Fearmongering seems to work on some people.Unfortunately, these very same ignorant, old, fearful white people are the very ones that will get screwed the most by the people they trusted. The truth is, if you aren’t filthy stinkin’ rich, or you don’t have close ties to corporations, the Republican party and those that are drivers in the party, have absolutely NO USE for anyone that can’t advance their bank accounts or put them in power.End of conversation. The other day, I mentioned that they should not be called the party of NO, they should be called the “Take Away” party. They want to take away Medicare, Medicaid, SS,public schools,EPA,and FEMA. They want to take away birthright citizenship, take away the rights of LGBT’s, take away the rights of a woman to make decisions about her body and her healthcare, take away child labor laws, take away unemployment benefits, take away any part of the Federal govt. they disagree with…the list goes on and on. To call them the party of NO, I argued, gives them a free pass. It’s as if them saying No to these things has no ramifications or real life repercussions for real people. Saying no to the debt ceiling has MAJOR repercussions for the entire world….yet them saying NO just makes them sound like they are doing something “good” by saving us money, or not spending what we don’t have….that would be the way they would frame the argument. To say that is wrong and simplistic is an understatement…..they get away looking reasonable with the argument because no one CALLS THEM OUT AND TELLS EXACTLY WHAT WOULD REALLY HAPPEN. No one explains to the simple minded person why this is wrong, in their simple minded language.Comparing this to a household budget is WRONG, but that’s what R’s are trying to do! We need much better messaging, in my estimation, both because of this bogus argument, AND because of it.I’m so used to all this BS…I live in AZ. The land of freakin’ loons. The legislature, in their infinite moronic wisdom, called a special session to talk about extending unemployment benefits, at NO COST TO THE STATE! They said.”No”. So rather than extend these benefits to cash strapped families, that would IMMEDIATELY INJECT MONEY INTO THE ECONOMY, and promote growth, they said No.How is that ok? They came off looking like they were fiscally conservative (which they ARE NOT) and tens of thousands of families in AZ could be sleeping in the 110 degree heat in no time! We’re talking about a measly $200/week…to buy food, put gas in the car so they can look for a job,pay the utilities…..I could scream.Add the hatred, racism. bigotry to the mix….and toxic doesn’t even come close to the shit that spews from these “real Amerikkkans”. They disgust me.I say we change the name. If someone can think of a better name than “Take Away” party, I’m all ears. The party of NO, just isn’t cutting it for me. They need to OWN ALL OF THIS> BIG TIME!

Sometimes it takes money to get the word out. If not money, at least someone with vision whose willing to strongly advocate on behalf of PBO. I often feel like PBO is the only one with a bat to beat the minions back. NAACP, ACLU, and a host of other organizations should be devoting a portion of their budgets to the 2012 elections. This is a critical time and everything is at stake. So many people are content, especially the old civil rights guard and the Professional Left to sit idly by and complain about what PBO has not done. I sometimes see little value in organizations like the NAACP, ACLU and other because a lot of times they induce and perpetuate a sense a pervasive sense of helplessness and victimization amongst their core constituencies

Getting involved would probably jeopardize their tax exempt 501(c)(3) status

So true DreamChaser57, and thus I do not belong to NAACP or others. I appreciate what they fight /stand for but oftentimes, NAACP, to me that is, is too conciliatory where the portrayal of African Americans is concerned, such as who they give image awards to. Now I’m not knocking anyone who joins….I say the more, the better prepared to fight, but they’re just not strong enough for me. I don’t want to see any of these organizations cease, but so far I don’t see enough widespread emphasis on the political aspect of our everyday lives, nor the militarism I prefer.

    GOOD NEWS ON AFGHANISTAN EVERYONE!!!

“As the Obama administration nears a crucial decision on how rapidly to withdraw combat forces from Afghanistan, high-ranking officials say that Al Qaeda’s original network in the region has been crippled, providing a rationale for an accelerated reduction of troops.

The officials said the intense campaign of drone strikes and other covert operations in Pakistan — most dramatically the commando raid that killed Osama bin Laden — had left Al Qaeda paralyzed, with its leaders either dead or pinned down in the frontier area near Afghanistan. Of 30 prominent members of the terrorist organization in the region identified by intelligence agencies as targets, 20 have been killed in the last year and a half, they said, reducing the threat to the United States.”

While the haters hate, and the bashers bash, and joke about it, President Obama remains focused on the well being of all Americans and all those elsewhere seeking to free themselves from tyranny.

The following article makes it very clear how wise President Obama, and leaders in the EU and UN were to act and act quickly. This article will make the foolish stunt of a few lame members of Congress appear even more disgusting, as should be the case.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/jun/18/gaddafi-misrata-war-crime-documents?CMP=twt_gu

“Gaddafi files show evidence of murderous intent

The Observer has gained exclusive access to thousands of documents which show how the Libyan leader gave orders for the torture, arrest and bombardment of his own people.

The dark green box files are packed closely together in rows that stretch up to the ceiling – as dull as dull could be. But the papers hidden inside them will sink Muammar Gaddafi.

In these boxes, hidden at a secure location in the besieged rebel city of Misrata, lie thousands of documents containing the orders given by the Libyan leader and transmitted by his generals to unleash the torture, arrest and bombardment that have torn the country apart. For war crimes prosecutors, they are pure gold.”

I urge all of you to do whatever you can to bring as much attention to this report as possible.

    Thank you.

I assure you – all those sick Republicans and Democrats like Conyers and Kucinich are going to look even more despicable as this evidence becomes widely known. And, we know, without doubt, that all the electronic communications between Daffi and his generals were being intercepted and shared with the President and his National Security team and it’s no wonder they moved as fast as they did to build the coalition and get those UN resolutions passed.

            Indeed, desertflower.

Just read these facts from the article:

“To put it into perspective, consider that no significant international war crimes trial has ever found written instructions proving that atrocities were actually ordered.

            Clip

Thanks to Alwab and his colleagues, that is not a problem Ocampo is likely to face. “Legally this is easy,” he says, gesturing to the signed, stamped orders. “It’s an easy case. They are going to win it for sure. In Gaddafi’s world you can’t do anything without the authorisation,” he explains. “And everything has to come from Gaddafi.””

Case closed – and not just for Daffi!

The president’s detractors always seem to put their feet in their mouths. They never seem to realize that PBO and his security team are privy to information they will never see. IMO, these “shoot from the hip” politicians pose a greater threat to our security than PBO ever will. Rohrabacher is a recent example because he allowed his staffers to release classified documents that are part of an ongoing investigation/case involving gunrunning on the U.S. Mexico border and for preventing an expert from testifying on the danger of not having some type of restrictions on gun purchases. That he would do this after the news came out that an American grown member of al Qaeda has told terrorists to purchase guns at gun shows is inexcusable. To have politicians in Congress who have only their own personal and political goals as the bases of their positions on very important issues is deplorable, and the fact that people keep voting them into office expecting them to protect our country is stupidity of the greatest kind.

      June 18, 2011 at 7:08 pm

Unfortunately, some idiots want America to go on record as not giving a fig about human life, unless there’s oil profits involved. Kucinich and company have a lot to explain – why do they want the country to be known as people who spend a lot to make big weapons, but don’t want to use some of those big weapons to protect the defenseless in this world. I mentioned this the other day – there’s a picture that came out shortly after the Libyan strikes began, when the people of Benghazi marched in the streets, thanking the NATO forces for saving their lives. I saw the pictures of the women, children and men, and thought about how some/many of those people would not have been alive if the NATO forces had not acted. How frightening that there are some (in positions of power) who don’t care at all about their fellow man.

      • 188 Bobfr
        June 18, 2011 at 7:44 pm

        Frighteningly cold-blooded, theo. I agree.

I track Libya throughout the day, every day and have been doing so since 17 Feb. When the mass graves are uncovered – and they will be – and all those who were slaughtered by Daffi’s goons in Tripoli in those early days are revealed, along with these documents and much more, it will be abundantly clear why President Obama acted and did so as quickly as he possibly could.

I can imagine how he so wishes Bush had not bungled OBL/Afghanistan and, even more so, had not unjustly invaded and occupied the sovereign Nation of Iraq, because he would be in so much stronger of a position to deal not just with the war criminals of Libya but with the Assads and other tyrants. But, even with all the challenges he has faced, he acts, daily, to bring relief to those suffering, be they Americans without a job or the oppressed seeking freedom.

I don’t Tweet yet but I will have my son show me how because I need to be able to sound off against all this madness. As for the video, I refuse to watch garbage, but I will fight to the death to defend my President.

Many thanks, Proud….you sure are quick. Just emailed this:

“I found Mr. Brown’s performance to be incredibly disturbing and inappropriate. His jokes were both racially insensitive and divisive. The upcoming 2012 presidential is going to be undoubtedly contentious but there should no place for this type of low brow humor. While I do realize it is a personal decision of Mr. Brown, I’m assuming in consultation with his managment, to decide what gigs to take – please know that for the foreseeable future I will not be supporting or endorsing anything that Mr. Brown is associated with. I will be sure to communicate my stand to my community, family, and friends. “

  46. June 18, 2011 at 7:13 pm

We will embrace the “better angels” in us rather than have this type of hatred swirling around our space. We know how to fight this fight, and that is what we will do at the ballor box in 2012. You see that smile on our President’s face in that photo, that is the smile that gives you strength to look your enemies dead in eye and smack them with your “better angel.” That is who President Obama is, and that is who we are. However, I love it that we know who we are, what we must do, how we must conduct ourselves as we do it, and most of all, never allow this hatred to move into our real inner core of the goodness that we nurture each day we come here and share, care for each other, and respect each other. We must fight for our younger children. We do not want to leave them with history accounts and history books saying that we did not fight the fight with grace. Yes, we are angry because this President does not deserves this type of evil. But We Will Prevail. I know it in my heart. My mother would always say to my brother and me,” You keep your core values always in every job that you do in your life. And NEVER allow anyone to tarnish that . Walk with poise, good judgement, calmness encircled with kindness, love, and firmness in both hands. So when you put your hands in the mix you know within your heart what are your ingredients. Let us make our ingredients come out smeling like a fresh baked New and Real American Apple Pie. Lots of cinnamon and ALL kinds of apples. We live in a different world today, so let us go and change the world with this great man, our President Barack Obama..

My last comment on this for the night. I agree with HZ about reaching for the better angels. And that’s what I want to encourage Mr. Brown and the republicans to do. Why is that the repubs just can’t seem to do that but must sink so low? We know that PBO would not say anything about this because he represents the whole country and we know he can brush insults off his shoulder.

As an American, I feel it’s my duty to let the GOP know how offensive it is to me. These people claim to want to lead the country which includes making decisions that affect me — as an American. So I have a right to voice my disgust at these actions. I promise I will do it the way PBO told Paul Ryan that his medicare plan stinks. With a smile.

Sue, I love your comments always. I have the fire in me also. I can and will blow the roof off. Those who know me well, know that when I reach the boiling point, look out. I love that about all of us here. We can stand firm with our President. It is time to speak out. I am writing the Speaker of the House now. I wrote him two weeks ago, and I got an an
answer. He needs to know this mess will not be tolerated. We are the ones who will speak for and with this President. We know how to work, we got Barack Obama elected. And we all probably got the doors shut in our faces. I did. But I told them off, and went on until the walk was over. We can do this. We have enough fire here. They really do not know who they are messing with this time.

  58. June 18, 2011 at 7:51 pm

The GOP knows they are outclassed. They are trying to cheat people out of being able to vote. They are showing the depths of their fears and insecurity and this is just a sign of it. This will not please the American people — the Tea Party may like it, but they have crossed the line for normal Americans of any party. This will get people into the voting booths for President Obama and Democrats.

The GOP wants attention. They want to control what is going on in the press. The GOP and the professional left don’t understand how President Obama’s polling numbers can stay so good. They are just empty noise and he is the real thing.

This is going to continue and probably get worse. Don’t let it get you off balance.

What we need to do is start thinking of ways for us to focus on President Obama. Supporting him, working on his election and supporting him in making decisions.

Exactly. Guess they figure any black will do. Idiots. I wrote Uncle Tom a love note too anniebella. Unfortunately, it was not fit for the eyes and ears of good company so I will not post it here. There wasn’t much cursing, just the use of the word ass two times. But the depth of my anger and disgust was so scathing that I frankly made the executive decision that my words were for Uncle Reggie and his own Uncle Tom manager only. I seriously hope all our words are taken to heart by that self hating little turd and that he humbles himself before all of us and apologizes for setting us back 100 years. We have enough black on black victimizations in the poor and disinfranchized neighborhoods of America’s inner cities already. But regardless of what black group it was, he had to know how different it would be to go to the heart of Dixie and do this routine in front of a bunch of RepubliKlans…If he didn’t know he was being used then he’s very naive and obviously has never heard any of their speeches…

Hey Chipsticks and TOD folks, I know this may sound strange, but if you actually watch the entire segment (available on C-SPAN), which is about 20 minutes long, you might come off with a different impression than what we initially had. I was truly incensed at the begining but as I began to read more about what he said, and learnt that there was a longer video, I decided to take a look for myself to see exactly what was going on. Yes there are some inappropriate remarks (which we are right to challenge), but it is clear that the bulk of the skit was designed to make fun of the GOP (unbeknownst to them), not the President. The guy actually impersonates the President pretty well in terms of his speech patterns, intonations, hand gestures, facial expressions, etc. And although throughout the skit, he had a few jokes here and there about the GOP, towards the end, he was clearly ramping up his “roasts” on the GOP which is why they felt they had to cut it off. It appears that the GOP got seriously punked by this skit. In fact I could tell that some in the audience looked uncomfortable even as they were laughing at the beginning because they couldn’t seem to tell whether he was making fun of himself ( President Obama) or of them/ GOP. I assure you that if you watch the entire segment, you will barely recall the “gay” jokes or jokes he made about Obama’s race, because the GOP jokes were not only funnier, but more frequent and closer to reality. It appears that certain MSM outlets like HP are now using the false headline that he impersonator was yanked because of his racist and gay jokes, but that was not why he was yanked, and it is clear by viewing the video, exactly what prompted the yanking. He had just finished roasting Romney and Pawlenty, and was about to take on Bachman.

I think the skit also highlights the hypocrisy of the Republican party – they are okay with race baiting and homophobic jokes, but have serious problems with jokes being directed at them.

I don’t believe this guy will be used by FOX News after this segment, because it clearly didn’t turn out the way they expected.

    • 257 desertflower

    • 258 StR
      June 19, 2011 at 12:51 am

I would agree. Now some of the stuff wasn’t my taste in comedy (especially how he talked about President Obama’s mother) but he nuked the GOP pretty roughly as well (Barbara Bush as George Washington was mean spirited as well). And I might be missing something but talking about Frank’s soft ass was more poking fun at him being fat than gay. I mean when does a “soft ass” mean gay, unless I’m out of the loop.

I’m not going to defend the guy for being used as a useful stooge on Fox news bits though.

    • 259 desertflower
      June 19, 2011 at 1:13 am

Sorry hopefruit…not seeing it. Clearly they were yakking it up through all the Obama jokes, Weiner jokes, etc…they did get more and more uncomfortable when THEY were getting bashed. And when the Tea Party darlings turn came, well….they just couldn’t take that chance.Off he went.Interesting to see the audience. Old, white people…except I did manage to see a stately looking AA woman in that crowd. Really? Someone please explain to me how an AA woman can be a Republican. Was she NOT paying attention during her entire life? I am not an AA woman, or a woman of color…..and I CAN’T IMAGINE VOTING FOR ANYONE THAT WOULD WANT ME NOT TO REACH MY FULL POTENTIAL. As a woman, but especially as an AA. Just escapes me.

      • 260 hopefruit2
        June 19, 2011 at 8:18 am

desertflower you’re totally right about the jokes not being funny anymore once the spotlight was turned on them. But it was interesting to see how the segment eveolved and if nothing else, this event truly highlighted the bigoted hypocrisy of the Republican Party. They are only amused by distasteful bigoted jokes directed at someone else, but once they become the target of jokes (which were closer to reality), they were not having any of it.

As for that black woman, she must be one of the few desperate blacks who are paid at every RNC function to “represent.” I remember in 2008 during the RNC convention, the cameras kept showing three black people in the entire crowd . I’m sure they were planted there with the cameramen given instructions to show them every 5 minutes or so.

At this late hour, I thank you once again hopefruit, for doing the rough work of following something all the way through. We all reacted sensitively, yet I still don’t see him doing these kind of jokes about PBO in light of the racial hostilities his Presidency faces each and every day. This is not the time for whoopin it up about race, and especially that one about Sanford and Esther. Nah, I challenged a coworker last year on that. Just stop with the bull I told her. This guy’s not getting off that easy either, not with me. He needs to get more rational jokes about my First Family.

      • 262 hopefruit2
        June 19, 2011 at 8:22 am

Yes, the racial and gay jokes were inappropriate, and I do believe that Mr. Brown and his manager should be held accontable. If he wants our “help” as he said, he needs to lose the racist/gay jokes immediately. His general impersonation of the President was funny enough without him having to resort to these primitive racist jokes.

      Thanks Hopefruit.

I haven’t watched the clip yet because I wanted to watch it in its entirety. I know from reading about it on other websites (esp. non-political ones) a lot of people thought it was very funny — with moments of real politically incorrect inappropriateness.

If it was a real roast, then it might have been too blue for most folks because at roasts anything goes. But then again, I have a bit of a blue streak.

I appreciate your trying to be reasonable Hopefruit. But, no dice with me. I find Mr. Brown’s actions deplorable and disgusting. I really have so much admiration for the older generations who coordinated the boycotts of the Civil Rights era, no black person for over a year rode the bus in Montgomery , for over a year. PBO deserves more regard than this. The political Right would have been incensed if the Left hired a comedian to make fun of Regan’s Alzheimer disease. This is simply intolerable. I do not wish any evil on Mr. Brown, but we have to start letting people know that there are economic and political consequences for disrespecting the president. Debate his policies if you will, but do not make disparaging remarks about his person. Families should be off limits – to discuss the president’s mother, wife. Did we talk about McCain’s Stepford Wives lookin’ wife? I think the Left has shown a lot of restraint and we’re better for it. Should we all make a mad dash for the garbage can and see who could be the most trashy? I should think not.

This is not personally directed at you Hopefruit, just my thoughts.

If he truly wants our support, then he and his agent need to correct a few things. I did not appreciate his jokes about “half holiday” and who the President’s mother married. There can be jokes made in good taste about our President that will draw laughs – ask Jamie Foxx, ask Seth Meyer. Second, he needs to place his allegiance squarely where it belongs. Working to help re-elect President Obama. He veered over to the dark side one time too many and now he’s getting burned. Let it be a Lesson Learned. This is what I will tell them in my reply. I did go to his website and read his bio. He is a brother from Chi-town trying to make it, but in these few instances he let the almighty dollar rule him…and that is not cool.

Think Progress has the story on their site and notes that” RLC President Charlie Davis said that the Obama Impersonator was “funny the first 10 or 15 minutes.” Well, since the first 10 or 15 minutes was when all the racist jokes took place, I’m sure he thought that was funny. It was only AFTER the racist jokes were done, and he was getting along to joking about Republicans….did the Obama Impersonator NOT sound so funny anymore. Taken off the stage and told he was done. Huntsman is a typical GOP extremist. His business dealings have been despicable. I mean, he did business with Iran! Where’s the outrage?

And he bought his second place showing at that republican circus straw poll just like he bought his governorship in Utah.

    • 278 theo67
      June 19, 2011 at 12:37 pm

Huntsman’s brother seems to be more of a potential liability with his “capitalism at all costs” type attitude. He strongly resisted divesting from their Tehran holdings, and only just last month, lamented the loss of the business. Does he not seethe people being subjugated there? No respect for life.

An interesting part of the article: “Huntsman has support from people who are looking for an alternative,” says Bonjean. “
My question is: an alternative to what? To the black man currently doing an awesome job? The one who they opposed because of his associations with people who have nothing to do with the safety and prosperity of this country? They’d rather have someone who has done business with the so-called enemies of this country,a nd who have created more jobs in Asia and India, and doesn’t think twice abou texploiting his adopted children for political gain? That’s the alternative?
Another interesting part of the article: “We’ll know Huntsman is moving up in the polls when his opponents start attacking him over things like this,” said Yepsen. “That’s why Huntsman needs to act first to get out his version of these stories and try to paint them as business success stories to limit any damage — and hope for the best.”

So, they want to distort the truth, in order to paint over the reality that this guy is bad for America? Interesting. These people know no shame, and will go to the lowest depths to get to power.

    Good morning, TOD family.

Yep, I believe Mr. Reggie Brown has committed career suicide. In my note to his stupid agent I said he would never get support for this racist, despicable routine and behavior.

Turned on CNN and MSNBC for a hot minute; of course no mention of this. But we will keep it in the forefront. The GOP will not escape its racism. Also, c-span had a reporter from the WSJ and GOPolitico on. I tweeted them that having two right-wing shills on at the same time is not objective journalism.

    good morning TOD

May GOD bless;guide and protect and give the President;the First Lady and Malia and Sasha;patience;courage in the face of such hate

May the President be blessed with a Happy Father’s Day with his girls :D

as for that Reggie person;I told him that he had NO shame to go in front of these hateful people and that he was disrespecting himself too besides insulting the President and his mom and his wife and that they were NOT laughing with him but at him and I had a few choice words that I won’t repeat here

This was on my Comcast home page:
    http://xfinity.comcast.net/video/obama-impersonator-misfires/2011967440/Comcast/2006579551/
I guess the MSM will talk about it. (probably very briefly) It is obvious that he must have been hired to joke about Dems. When he went off script on Rethugs, they cut him off.

And the truth is, if he had stuck to the script and just told racist mean jokes about the President of the United States, the First Lady and the President’s late mother, the Republicans wouldn’t have had the slightest problem with him, nad we probably would have never heard of it. Republicnas are racists (and thin skinned), through and through.

Exactly. Even though the Repugs got more than they bargained for, this Reggie guy is a f*****g disgrace.

I have one Republican Senator in my state, I just sent this to him:

“The Washington Post recently reported that the Republican Leadership Conference hosted comedian Reggie Brown this past Saturday, June 18, 2011. The comedian offered several hateful racially insensitive and homophobic jokes. Such divisive and low brow entertainment should not be tolerated let alone encouraged. I am bringing this to your attention because you are a Republican.
Undoubtedly, the upcoming 2012 presidential election is going to be contentious. However, a vigorous and aggressive policy debate is wholly appropriate but making fun of people for immutable characteristics like sexual orientation or race is not going to take this country to a better place.
People are not inherently evil or incompetent because they are across the aisle. Congress should be working with the president and other members of Congress in a cordial, humble, and respectful way. When elected officials legitimize behavior that should be marginalized because it is hateful and unduly nasty and more than that give it a national platform – that constitutes a moral failing and irresponsible leadership.
I do sincerely hope that you are willing to publically vocalize your displeasure with this critical mis-step of your party.”

Neither he nor his agent can expect any help from me in digging themselves out of this canyon they’ve created for themselves. Call me Old School, but I was raised knowing that there are some things one just doesn’t do, some lines one doesn’t cross. That the republicans stopped this tool when he began ridiculing GOP politicians tells me all I need to know. That they only stopped him at that point means that they didn’t have a problem with the racism directed at the Obamas or the homophobia directed at Congressman Barney Frank. It’s too late for them to weasel out of it now, imo. This $h!t isn’t funny. No way, no how, nowhere. They are insensitive pricks who have no real understanding of the role that racism and homophobia have traditionally played in this society, and the negative impact they’ve had on the lives of millions of Americans. People have died because of racism and homophobia, and they know it, but as long as it didn’t happen to them and/or theirs, it’s okay. I am just as offended that Reggie Brown did this routine in Harlem as I am that he did it in New Orleans. This type of comedy routine is unacceptable in any venue.

Why do a ‘black face’ (they would’ve done one if they could’ve gotten away with it) when you can have real black guy to do your dirty work?! Was speaking to a British born, African raised, US living cousin (trying to get him to get my BO 2012 gear) and the stuff he was spouting! I’m not sure if he wants to fit in (he lives in the sticks in Pennsylvania) or if the MSM has succeeded in ‘dumbing’ him down but it was shocking. He wasn’t the ‘bright bulb’ to begin with but man, he sure has lost the plot. After arguing with him for a while, I decided that it was a lost cause. I know not everyone will support PBO but if he was quoting sensible talking points I would have understood but all his points appear to be Fauxish. SMDH
