President Obama arrives at Thomas Sweet ice cream in Washington with hhis daughters Malia and Sasha, June 19
OH WOW…THANKS CHIPS…SOUNDS LIKE ‘DAD AND THE GIRLS’ ARE HAVING A SWEET FATHER’S DAY CELEBRATION. THEN….OFF TO AFRICA. OH HOW I WOULD LOVE TO BE WITH THEM. I WOULD PROBABLY NEVER COME BACK….I WOULD STAY AND MISSION TO THE CHILDREN! I HOPE THEY HAVE A BEAUTIFUL AND MEMORABLE TRIP….AFRICA IS BEAUTY AND ‘MAGIC’!!!!!!
My sister volunteered in Kenya about five years ago (no religious connection) She was with a group of educators. as a librarian. She was tasked with setting up a children’s school library in place of the dozen or so books that had served as one. The school at which she teaches had been collecting and shipping books in advance of her arrival. She came home unable to describe in words what the experience had meant to her. She remained in contact with a teacher there, with whom she corresponded throughout the night of Obama’s win and he gave her a report of the ecstacy and joy of the Kenyans. She loved the land and the people.
THANKS GC…I WOULD IMAGINE THAT THIS WOULD ALWAYS BE SUCH AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE AND CERTAINLY GREAT FOOD FOR THE SOUL!
LOL Sue..is that Guy asking the SS for Malia’s phone number…hehehehe
The other hot guy (in the cargo shorts)????
Jeans, sandals….. on a Sunday. Nothing better!
I think he’s Malia’s cousin (FLOTUS’s nephew), no?
Yes, Avery Robinson!!
That’s Adrian, Craig Robinson’s son, and his sister in blue. They’ll be going with them on the trip.
Malia’s phone number, he will NEVER get it. Malia is 12, there will be no talk of boys till she is 25.
. It’s her cousin Avery people…relax
Thanks P, I mistakenly called him Adrian. Well, it’s an A
TEE-HEE…BETTER NOT WHILE THE DAD IS NEAR!!!!!!
Expecting you to find pics, Chips. Poor PBO will be home alone for a whole week without his ladies.
I’m cleaning my office, doing laundry and listening to PBO’s past speeches. Right now I’m listening to his awesome speech in Berlin given during the campaign. Remember it was so successful, McCain and his hapless minions immediately attacked.
PBO is just amazing.
Oops this is from me, Proud of Obama. Didn’t think it had posted. Pls. ignore double post below.
Shy, the msm might find out that the obamas are just like the common man. We can’t have that getting around, now can we?
CHEERS to the President and his daughters!
Here’s a rough outline of Mrs. O’s itinerary:
The First Lady meets the wife of President Jacob Zuma in Pretoria and then travels to Johannesburg to visit the Nelson Mandela Foundation and receive a tour from Mandela’s wife, the humanitarian and former Mozambican first lady Graca Machel. She will also visit the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg.
She heads to the Soweto township’s Regina Mundi Church to deliver the keynote address to a forum for young African women leaders. The church became a national symbol of the anti-apartheid struggle during the deadly Soweto student uprising of June 1976.
In Cape Town, she visits Robben Island, the prison where Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years behind bars.
She meets Bishop DesmondTutu at a soccer stadium that served as a venue during last year’s football World Cup.She is scheduled to meet with groups using soccer as a means to combat HIV and AIDS in South Africa, and the First Lady is expected to take to the pitch to join in drills with girls and boys from the Cape Town area.
She wraps up her southern Africa trip with a visit to Botswana, where she meets President Ian Khama and visits a children’s clinic.
South Africa is 6 hours ahead of EST and 9 hours ahead PST.
THE PEOPLE OF AFRICA ARE GOING TO LOVE SEEING OUR FIRST LADY AND OUR FIRST DAUGHTERS. I CAN’T WAIT TO HEAR THE GIRLS’ IMPRESSIONS OF THE TRIP WHEN THEY GET BACK. THIS IS SUCH A WONDERFUL EDUCATION FOR THEM.
You’re so welcome!
Nice that they managed to get out for a little father’s day trip. Safe travels!
Expecting to see photos, Chip. Poor PBO is home alone without his ladies for a whole week.
I’m cleaning my office and playing PBO’s past speeches on my computer. Right now I’m listening to his awesome speech in Berlin given during the campaign. I remember it was so awesome, McCain and his minions immediately attacked. Losers.
Hi, proud of Obama. Do you have a link to the Berlin speech? I have a printed copy, but would just love to hear this again. It has extra special significance for me due to my very early childhood memories at the time of the Berlin airlift. No one in Berlin (or in Germany for that matter) will ever forget the day then candidate Obama came to visit. My sister who still lives in Germany was glued to her TV and so many millions watched it live – it had more viewers than the national soccer team! And Chancelor Merkel, on her recent visit, couldn’t resist bringing back these memories.
Chipsticks – you’re AWESOME! A request is granted SWOOSH!
Awesome is an understatement. I think President Obama should hire you, Chipsticks. You are soooo on the ball! Thank you, and now I’ll be going down memory lane. Thanks again. This time I will make sure it stays on my computer forever!
Thanks for finding it, Chips. You are the best. That was truly an awesome speech and an awesome visit for then candidate Obama. We got to see how he would handle the world stage and of course he was spectacular. The McCain camp went ballistic. Remember McCain went bumbling in a grocery store in a German neighborhood and claimed he’d rather wait until he became president to make such a trip abroad. Ha! Wasn’t going to be an issue for that loser.
There is one speech that I just love and I have almost all of them on my mp3 player!!!
The speech in St. Paul, Minnesota when he clinches the nomination. The end of that speech gives me chills every time I listen to it. See how it goes crescendo starting at 24:41 with “So it was….” Just great!!! Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gI3FLN1t8j0
Oh Streetsmart that is one of my favorites. The energy in that place that night was off the chart. When he said, “because of YOU, I will be the Democratic Nominee” that place goes crazy and I still cry everytime I hear it.
Ice cream sounds like a great treat!
I HAVE A FRIEND IN KENYA WHO IS GOING TO NURSING SCHOOL THERE. OUR CHURCH DONATED TO HELP HER BUY A COMPUTER TO AID HER IN HER STUDIES. I USED TO HAVE A FRIEND I WOULD EMAIL THERE…SHE SAID ONE DAY THEY HAD GONE TO A MCDONALDS AND THE NEARBY MONKEYS IN THE TREES HAD TAKEN THEIR BURGERS! I LAUGHED SO HARD!!!!!!! THE LION KING IS ALSO COMING OUT WITH A NEW MOVIE…I LOVE KID’S MOVIES SO I’LL PROBABLY CATCH THAT ONE! I’M IN LOVE WITH THE AMBIANCE OF AFRICA AND THE PERSEVERANCE OF THEIR AMAZING AND BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE!…THEY SHOULD ALL BE AN EXAMPLE TO US…EXPECIALLY WHEN WE THINK THINGS SHOULD BE DONE FOR US OR WE ARE SPOILED BY INSTANT FIXES! THESE ARE THE PEOPLE GOD HOLDS ONTO WITH HIS MIGHTY HANDS!
Thanks Sue for your encouraging lovely shout out to Africa. And yes we have to really persevere. God, if only we could finally get rid of all those murderous, corrupt so called rulers. (Dictators)
How sweet spending Sunday with the family, So thankful our President gets to spend some quality time before they head off to Africa.
One thing, that Republican can’t say about this President is that he lacks ‘Family Values” because deep down, they all wish, they could be just as Good of a Husband and a Father.
President Barack Obama, walks the talk.
YES HE DOES WALK THE TALK AND A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF FATHERHOOD HE IS TOO! THE GIRLS ARE BLESSED TO HAVE HIM!
Being a Native of East Africa….This trip will be so emotional for me personally….I cannot wait for pictures:-)
Our Great Fist Lady will be in Mandela’s land….How exciting is this!!!!!!!!!!!!
Viva Michelle Obama:-)
I can just imagine!
Yey, Kasai. Nice meeting you. I too I am a native of East africa. And this trip will also be emotionally personal to me. Hehehe, cant wait for the pics. My family back home said they will stay glued to the tv, but I pity them coz all they have to relay on is the crap from CNN and Msnbc.
Yes here is another East African native who is also looking foward to the trip
Nice meeting you, Linda. Hi sis? lol.
Nice meeting you too:-) GlobalcitizienLinda
Hey Asher, nice to meet, I am a native of Central Africa! I remember the President’s trip to Ghana, though he didn’t stay long, it was already a proud moment for the people in Sub-Saharan Africa. I remember staying up at night just to be able to absorb the emotion, I wanted to see everything live!!! This is going to be another touching moment for the people in the region, for the friends of Africa and supporters of the Obamas!! I just wished Mr. Mandela was in good health and able to meet with them. It would have been unforgettable for the children especially but still…can’t wait!
Great, streetsmart, nice to meet you too. Seems we are a bunch on here. I remember that trip to Ghana, and for sure the entire continent was walking on cloud nine with joy and pride.
The pleasure is all mine Asher:-) How cool….Chips bringing all my home town girls together….I, too will be glued to any news….but I know this site is the best news you can get….Just as it was about Ireland:-)
Again, so nice meeting you here Asher:-)
You are right Kasai, its cool getting to know my homies, all thanks to CS. Cant wait , and this site is the place to be.
Jambo im also from Kenya went to university in Jo’burg… Cant wait to see the pics,no pressure chip
I saw some mess about the Prez being related to Chenney wth? im 100% sure he’s my long lost brother hehehehe
OUR PRESIDENT WILL BE MISSING HIS SWEET LADIES…HOPE HE PICKS UP HIS SOX WHILE THEY’RE GONE!LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL! ALONE…IN THE BIG HOUSE….ECHO…ECHO…ECHO!…JUST THE PREZ. AND ‘THE BO!’
yes I forgot he has Bo
Hehehehe….Sue you have me cracking up…..you too funny….
I LOVE SEEING THE PRESIDENT RELAXED AND WITHOUT A TIE. I ALWAYS FEEL SORRY FOR MEN BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO WEAR TIES.
Is it me or his hair just greyer this week…..Wow
No It’s not just you, I noticed the very same thingKasai
Yup…and they must feel sorry for us because we have to wear bras!!!
hopefruit2 you just made my night with that one
And shave our legs, and on and on. Men have got it easy!
Our President looks especially good….I bet they all miss the days outside of the “fishbowl”. The girls are beautiful, and they are both loved and loving. The Obama’s demonstrate in action (family values) what many only give lip service to.
I am excited about their trip to Africa, I love that we almost feel as if we are with them in their journeys. Chipsticks you are the gift that just keeps on giving. Thank you and bless you for all you do for so many.
Who said you have to wear bras? :-p
OMG!!….no bra!!! Are you a man or something? because ladies leaving your house without a bra is a no…no…..especially if you have big boobs!
Reading my mind….LOL. Actually it’s one second thing that goes when I come home from work. Never could stand them.
“the” second thing, not “one” second thing. Oh well, going to bed. Good nite TOD . By the way, our President looks cool in those casuals. Shame he can’t buy ice cream for the kids without everyone gawking, but then, so are we.
I HEAR THAT ONE…SO I GUESS WE’RE EVEN!…LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!
MICHELLE SHOULD PICK UP SOME ‘ELEPHANT DUNG’ PAPER WEIGHTS FOR THE GOP’S DESKS! THEN THE OCCUPANTS CAN HAVE A VISUAL OF THEIR OWN ALTER EGOS ON DISPLAY AT ALL TIMES….JUST A SHOPPING SUGGESTION…:))))))))
Sue, you are a riot!!
BLESS YOU MARTZ…IT WOULD BE GIVING THEM A SUBLIMINAL AND BACKHANDED COMPLIMENT!….LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!
You have the quickest wit. You’ld be a great stand up comedian!
I like your idea about the paperweights, from here on in when I think Republican I am going to think of the south bound end of a north bound elephant. As an aside, I love elephants, I wish the Repugs had picked a different animal to taint by their association.
A SNAKE WOULD CERTAINLY SUFFICE!
Awww, there’s our Daddy-in-Chief. The pic I’m looking at now shows PBO and Malia getting out of an SUV. Malia is growing into a stunning young lady — long and lean like her parents. Bless ‘em.
Can’t wait to see and hear about the girls in Africa next week — what an adventure!
This family is a national treasure.
I WAS AROUND FOR JFK….2 YEARS AGO…LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL….AND LET ME TELL YOU…THE OBAMAS HAVE TAUGHT AMERICANS SEVERAL LESSONS ABOUT GIVING AND CARING FOR ALL THAT IS AROUND YOU. THERE ISN’T ANYTHING THEY ‘AREN’T’ INVOLVED IN AND THEIR LOVE OF CHILDREN IS SUCH AN AWESOME EXAMPLE FOR EACH AND EVERY FAMILY IN THIS COUNTRY. AND WHEN IT COMES TO GOOD HEALTH AND THE BENEFITS OF A GOOD EDUCATION…WHAT BETTER EXAMPLE COULD YOU HAVE?
THEIR LOVE FOR EACH OTHER CAN BE FELT AROUND THE WORLD…AND THROUGH IT ALL…THEY REMAIN HUMBLE! THAT’S PURE,UNDISTURBED BEAUTY OF THE SOUL AND WE CAN ALL LEARN FROM IT!
Reminds me of something I read relating self-knowledge to humility, and in reading it I thought of President Obama, and the remarkable person that I believe he is. ” It is important to gain self-knowledge as a part of spiritual growth- to know yourself and to believe in yourself means that you can know and believe in God. Knowledge of yourself produces humility, and knowledge of God produces love.”
I believe those who dwell in the positive are able to see President Obama in a true light. I also believe those that cannot are individuals guided by fear not love, and consummed by negativity. Send them light, they are lost in darkness.
Sue, that really touched me. It is so true! Thanks for sharing!!!
BLESSINGS ALL….I WILL CATCH YOU LATER!…:)
He looks so handsome in his dad jeans!! I hope they had a special day together. He will miss them terribly while they’re away.
Look at that cute President Obama, a loving dad and a great President.
Awwwwww I feeling a little bad for PBO. Poor man is gonna be all alone for an entire week without his puddins . This coming week is definitely going to be hard on him since the only people who can release some of his stress wouldn’t be home!!! I am glad Michelle is carrying her brother’s children. It is good that they too will be able to learn alot and have some fun in Africa! I want an auntie like Michelle . I didn’t know they were leaving tonight!! Safe flight Obama/ Robinson ladies and guys!! I am home this entire week!!! Super excited and cannot wait for the fun!!!!!!
shocks that was me P…
Malia is gorgeous!!
[more/different pics up now]: I love the sandals and the deepening tan (I presume from this weekend’s golf outing) — he’s brought Hawaii to D.C . Malia looks gorgeous in that side-eye pic — a perfect cross of PBO and Michelle. Lovely.
Chipstick you RAWK….. I just knew you’ld be the 1st to have any pics. *squeeee*
BTW, Prez Obama started tweeding Check out @BarackObama for his 1st -BO
Hey I never saw PBO in that t shirt and jeans before..wonder if he got it for Father’s Day! He looks so cute and happy there. Glad for him and his girls! Sasha looks shy..she’s like “grrrr cameras again! Can I just be left alone with my daddy!” and then she runs off! Too sweet and Malia is so pretty!! Feeling for one of those cones she’s eating
Blue jeans and sandals Nooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ): I really wish he would have worn some sneakers with those jeans. I glad he is relaxing and got to spend time with his daughters.
I think he looks adorable and relaxed for Fathers Day, doing what he wants, wearing what he wants. The girls look like they wished they could go out with their dad for ice cream without all the “commotion” as Malia once put it.
He looks like a sexy, relaxed man from Hawai’i.
His sexy new jeans look awesome! How much do you bet Miche bought them recently? I love the sandals with his sexy long toes At least he’s not dressed in socks and sandals
I had to go out and get me some ice cream too! LOL!!!! I wonder…how much advance notice does POTUS have to give Secret Service when he wants to do spontaneous outings like this? I’m glad he does it for his girls!
I KNOW! I’m totally craving ice cream now……… (of course I can see the Red Tent in the distance, so that is just SOP for this week.)
WOW i now recognized Michelle’s nephew Avery in the blue cap damnnnnnnnnn he has gotten big! He looks like a man already! Wait how old is he?
17 maybe and I think Leslie is 15 but I’m not sure.
No problem with the sandals; born and raised in Hawaii , remember? He looks relaxed. I feel for Sasha who looks a bit annoyed. That woman should not be trying to take pictures of the girls. They will be without their Dad for a week; they should be able to have time with him to enjoy such a simple pleasure without people that they do not know snapping pictures.
Love the sandals!
I felt the same way about taking the picture of Sasha and based on PBO’s face, he didn’t like it either. She really shouldn’t have done it. I understand that he has a beautiful family and people love them, but at least be respectful and discrete. The lady was ridiculous. You can totally tell that Sasha loves the cameras( I’ve been re-watching home videos and she’s always waving to the camera and smiling), but only on her terms, not when she’s trying to chill and have fun with her pops. Whenever I see her, I always think she’ll be either a movie star or a singer. She’s so cute, you can tell that she’s not naturally very shy. It’s like she’ll go out there and take on the world, one way or another, on her own terms. Sasha was an apt nickname for her, she’s so fierce! **snap snap**
I love the video of President Obama getting sworn in to the Senate. That little stinker Sasha stole the show…..waving and prancing to the crowd. I crack up everytime I see it.
She seems to be always aware of the camera, and I don’t think she always appreciates the intrusion. I don’t know how they put up with it myself, but I am so grateful for their sacrifices. But I agree lisalovesobama….she is Sasha Fierce!
I love my President. Happy Father’s Day, Sir.
I was reading my digital copy of People Magazine’s POTUS column on father’s day…. there are pictures of the girls at various ages, so cute
This is awesome!! Those kids keep growing up!! Just great to teenagers in the White House. I recognize Avery Robinson and his sister, they grown up a lot. This is just great, Dad-in-chief taking the children out for ice cream!!
Ok, enthusiasm lost me here…Of course the kids will grow up…..sorry…just to happy in front of the pictures!
I was browsing the pics on Daylife and Sasha’a face totally screams “GET ME OUT OF HERE!” complete with Dwyane Wade voiceover. Everybody sees her as the spunky, impish, photogenic one (which she is) but Malia is way more relaxed in front of large crowds and cameras. Don’t know if it’s age or personality or combo.
Malia’s body is to die for: tall, slender, tan, everything! She was blessed inside and out.
Avery looks like a young man and I spy Leslie. Malia and Leslie will definitely have a good time together in Africa.
Love Barack’s shirt. It’s the same one he wore to his birthday barbeque at the White House last year.
Hope everybody has a fun and safe trip (wasn’t expecting them to leave so soon). I hope the Prez can get through debt limit negotiations for an entire week without his family to go home to at the end of the nigh.
Yes Malia is a magazine type of chic but she wouldn’t get into the modelling business though. Well if I was her I wouldn’t because it could be a nasty business! I can see the boys lining up! She’s gorgeous and I know President Obama knows it! He got his work cut out for him…but with a mom like Michelle if Malia’s taste in men is the same as her mom PBO wouldn’t have to worry about a thing though. I don’t get why people say ‘tan’ for black people..it sounds weid lol. Everything about this girls is perfect….there is three words to describe her; beauty, grace and ofc she’s Ms. Oracle
Oh and regarding Sasha..she do look like she gets a bit uncomfortable with cameras around unlike Malia. But when she was younger it didn’t seem so..I am guessing it’s the age..guessing.
Malia and Barack have their summer tan going on and it looks good on them. I’m not calling her tan in general (that is kind of weird).
oh thought you were referring to her natural skin complexion sorry.
I think Malia seems so calm because she inherited her temperament from Daddy. Plus, remember PBO said on GMA that Malia is the most emotionally intelligent person he’s ever known? Ya, PBO, she got that from you. Probably Sasha takes after Miche more, more fun loving and easy going, but sometimes they need the quiet, to be out of the glaring spot light.
what a wonderful family. I love this family
Now I’m watching Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama’s DNC acceptance speech. Wow! Everything he said he would do in that speech, he is doing. And he talked about how hard it would be to bring about change. Boy, the PL left idiots were just not listening or chose to ignore his words. What a man of integrity and honor.
He is a man of integrity, honesty, and consistency. And humble to boot. We are blessed!
Sorry to switch from an excellent subject, the Obamas, to an icky one, Michelle Bachmann——but I just read a story on the Daily Beast about Michelle’s gross looking husband, sorry for my shallowness but he is, said to be her only political adviser. He is in the “Christian counselling” biz, very anti-gay, has referred to gays as “barbarians”(maybe Choi would prefer this candidate?) He got his masters at Pat Robertson’s Regent University—-ay yi yi—–and his PHD in clinical psychology from some fakey correspondence school (didn’t even know that was possible). Writer remarks on how she’s somehow been transformed from oddball outsider to some credible candidate (thank you stupid and unethical news media). I marvel at how talk show pundits are able to talk about the possibility of her getting the Republican nomination for President of the United States with a straight face. Unbelievable!
The right wing is dangerous and desperate. Bachman would be entirely divisive. Apparently, she even denounced gays in her own immediate family (siblings). Really despicable.
Wow, can you imagine having Michelle Bachman for a sister AND being gay?? WHEEEWWEEEE. Thanksgiving in THAT house must be a hoot!!!
This is innuendo, but the rumors have circulated for years that he is gay. If you do a little research many of the things the Bachmann’s have involved themselves in locally (Stillwater Minnesota) have become controversial. I know the pastor at the church they were affiliated with locally was long under investigation by the IRS.
He lives a very, very rich lifestyle complete with private jet. She has little to show for her years in the House of Representatives. I am stymied as to why she is thought of as Presidential timbre. I think she is a total whack job, fueled by extreme religious zealotry, but wrapped in a pretty package. I don’t think there is anything wrong with being gay, but the hypocrisy of some Republicans as it relates to LBGT issues and social issues in general is more than I can tolerate. My brother commented today that if you are a Republican, you are essentially not a nice person. I agree.
I totally agree with your brother. I can’t imagine a good person endorsing anything that Republicans stand for – and their tactics. Just look at how vile Chris Christie is – even when he’s trying to endorse his family values, it always ends up being very selfish. He goes to Disney world right when his state is about to be hit with a huge storm, and he knows his deputy is dealing with a sick father. He goes to his son’s game in a state paid helicopter and then onto a meeting with a bunch of idiots trying to inflict him on the rest of the country. They just can’t seem to get it right. They think they’re exhibiting family values, and yet they are selfishly inflicting the cost onto other people.
As for Bachmann’s husband – well, I’ve heard that some people hate the people who most reflect themselves. If the rumors are true, that would explain why he’s so against gay people. As with Weiner and Grayson and Feingold and Bachmann – what is their record in Congress? What have they done for the people of this country? All talk, no action.
I cmpletely agree with your brother Sue…
In my opinion, anyone who identifies as republican today, is simply not an intrinsically good or nice person…
I was on another site and some Republican were talking about people being on foodstamps. So I ask the question, why is it okay for big Oil Companies, and rich people to get money from the Government, but Repbulicans complain about something helping the poor and needy. I don’t want my taxes going to rich people like the Koch brothers, who is doing just fine. But these Republicans have no problem in making the Bush tax cuts permanent. These Republicans are the very one who will preach about their religion, but no where in the Bible do I see where it says take from the poor, the middle class and give to the rich. I couldn’t be a Republican, because I honestly feel alot of them are racists, not all, but a heck of a lot. Not that Dems are perfect. How can you talk about destroying Medicare, and repealing the Healthcare Reform. Do they give a darn that people don’t have health insurance? As for Michelle Bachmann, she is just another Sarah Palin, except she might not be as dumb as Palin.
As someone getting their doc in clinical psych, I’m very insulted that Batshit Bachmann’s man cheated and got a fake degree from a fake ass correspondence program Sick
I don’t blame you.
This pray away the gay BS chaps my ass, and I agree with Theo67 that so often those endorsing a cure for “the gay” are themselves, self loathing and closeted gays. God doesn’t make junk, funny how that doesn’t seemed to be recognized by this particular group of “Christians”.
You mean intolerant, selfish, greedy Christians? Sinning Christians? Hypocritical Christians? Nope, being good, kind-hearted and tolerant aren’t part of their ‘religious’ makeup, sorry Sue
Same with Bishop Eddie Long, no?
They don’t seem familiar with or in the habit of incorporating into their lives the lessons of Jesus that I am familiar with. They disgrace Christianity with their intolerance, greedy and self serving actions. Ugly, ugly, ugly.
Ya’ll KNOW I love my president in jeans! I am a happy woman. Now, Malia and Sasha are just too cool. I’m sure they are pretty tired of being followed everywhere they go, but they seem to take it in stride. And Barack and Michelle allow them to be as “normal” as possible, given the circumstances. I’m also very glad that they decided, after that one interview, to keep them away from the media.
They appear to be typically developing girls. Malia seems a bit more introverted, reflective about it all. She is going to be a stunning young woman. Sasha seems spunkier, yet somehow, bored of it all at the same time. It’s like she’s thinking “will ya’ll PLEASE get over us! We are normal, just like you, WHAT is the big fuss?”
I’ve been to West Africa, but not South Africa. And I’ve never been on a safari. I’m sure they will have a wonderful time. And I would love to have a conversation with Marian Robinson. I’m sure, never in a zillion years, did she think she and her family would experience such wonderful experiences.
I’m sure the Rethugs are gonna try to blow this up, but like Chica’s earlier post, Laura Bush took her two daughters to Africa. So, let’s see how they act now… Like the kids say “whatever….”
I’ve been to Southern Africa, and it really is a life-changing experience. Cape Town is one of the most beautiful locations in the world – and the people are absolutely lovely. I hope they enjoy their visit.
Hi Chipstick, I registered with WordPress, I see my comments are pending moderation. It’s just “me” who used to post under Street_Smart !! i was eager to be able to used that beautiful pic of PBO that I just love!!!
Streetsmart, so sorry!!! I had to quit early last night so all your comments got held up in pending – I’ve freed them all now! Thanks so much
Potus looks good as the kids. Love to see him in casual wear. Flotus and company are going to have a wonderful time in Africa and I am sure they will get a very warm welcome.
I don’t like huffingtonpost but I’d rather link them than fauxnews.
This exchange between Wallace and Jon Stewart is pretty interesting. I don’t know if it’s me but this Wallace guy is faaaar from being smart…
Scroll down for the full interview, it’s about 25mns!
Really nice pictures of the President and his daughters. I know he will miss everyone, but I’m sure they will talk everyday. We can see that Malia looks like her father, who does Sasha look like? Michelle. Anyway they are lovely girls and I hope they have a wonderful time in S.Africa. Chipsticks I am looking forward to the pictures. I want to feel as if I am right there on the trip. You have never let me down before and I know you won’t this time.
My prayers are with Michelle and the girls for a safe and enjoyable trip. And I will not pay any attention to those right wing haters. They are not worth it.
Praying for a safe trip also….But they I see how they treated out First Family…..I sometimes think they are much safer in other countries….
The world loves our President and his family…and they’ve shown us, in how much they are welcomed, appreciated and showered with love.
I think Sasha looks like President Obama’s mother when she was younger. I saw a picture of her when she was a little child and she looked a lot like Sasha looks now.
I tell you…Our President is Handsome, he looks good in anything he wears…He has that star/model quality in him…but what makes him Beautiful is, is the beautiful soul he possess.
Here is a “raw video” of the outing. I hope this works.
Oops, I was trying to just post the link, but somehow the video came up.
It works. Cool. Thanks Doreen for sharing.
Great video Doreen, thanks for sharing…
It’s amazing how for all the doomsday predictions of his detractors, President Obama continues to elicit such excitement, warmth and good wishes from most Americans…
May God continue to bless, protect, guard, direct and defend our most extraordinary President…
Everybody is “relax”, look at Pete Souza
I hope everyone had a great father’s day today.
I’ve been down with the flu so I’ve been sick these past few days.
Trying to get lots of rest.
feel better please Ms. Donna
Take care of yourself Donna…
We need our video queen to stay healthy…
Get lots of rest and drink lots of good liquids…
Hi Donna, I hope you feel better…We missed you here. Be well:-)
So enjoyable reading the comments. Yes, donna please take care and get your rest. Thanks so much for sharing with us. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Sending you get well wishes Donna.
I love to hear the gathered crowds respond so openly and positively to our President. It puts to lie, the numerous MSM memes that President Obama is unpopular and disliked. President Obama is the first President that I have closely followed, does anyone know if the public’s general excitement and open enthusiasm is an Obama thing, or just the normal reception afforded a President, any President?
Let me join the rest and say take care and hope you will be feeling well soon, Donna. God Bless.
Sue, I think there is a buzz around any president. But Obama’s “buzz” is higher than most I’ve known. And while I now have a different opinion of Pres. Clinton, I have to say there was a palpable buzz when he came in the room. I remember seeing him at a stadium event in Philadelphia, and even in that crowd, you KNEW he had just gotten there. The same thing, even bigger, happens when Pres. Obama enters an area. There were thousands of people when he came to Philadelphia. It was so cool to watch how focused people were the second he hit the stage. And we had the privilege of having him AND VP Joey!!
Thanks isonprize. I find myself wondering that alot. I love witnessing the excitement and enthusiasm shown for our deserving President….I always get swept up in it……as if I am experiencing it first hand. He is such a treasure!
Take good care of yourself Donna, get well soon.
Chips, FLOTUS’ South Africa itinerary is up:
Just watched Katrina van den heuvel who said that lbj was a much stronger president than Obama. And that she admires kucinich and she thinks the media should give him a platform. Oh, and they don’t?
She is stupid!
Well I don’t agree with that Katrina van whatever , whoever. I am surprise she didn’t say Nixon were better. 2012 Obama has my vote.
Me niether. Katrina can just go somewhere and sit down and stfu.
PBO should not ever be compared to LBJ as their political careers are so different.
Johnson was paranoid about the Kennedy legacy and only pushed through Civil Rights legislation because he thought the country would hate him if he did not finish what Kennedy started. Not to take away from LBJ as he did work very hard to push the 1964 act through. However, LBJ had the power and goods from having been in the Senate so long, he knew where the bones were buried and he was also a good ol southern boy who could negotiate those Dixie Democrats into doing his bidding. Even so, LBJ knew the Democratic party had lost the South for at least 2 decades and even said so subsequent to signing the bill. His words were prophetic as it has been 5 decades and the Democratic party still cannot win the south as all the Dixiecrat ‘sons of the south’ are now in the GOP. So, LBJ wasn’t as much so much stronger as he was a ‘son of the south’ and had history in the Senate.
It also helped that LBJ had that great MN statesman as his V.P.
LBJ used mob tactics to get legislation passed. He would threaten to reveal Congressmen and Senators affairs/scandals if they didn’t vote for the Civil Rights Act. Even though that would have been helpful in the public option debate I don’t want the President to downgrade to that level. He’s above that. And Obama couldn’t even get away with it with all the technology.
LBJ also used earmarks which the President will not do.
What do you think of Keith Olberman first guest? Michael more and Markos. Good luck to whoever will be tuning in but I won’t.
Morning O family.
Jon Huntsman may have violated the Hatch act, and betrayed the president of the united states.
For those who are still loosing sleep over Jon Huntman here is your answer. The media has started chewing him up.
“I couldn’t have told you we were going to do this until I got home,” [Huntsman] said during a recent stop in Berlin, N.H., adding that he first met the team the day after his return. “I didn’t know anybody around the table. They were all brand-new.”
“We were overwhelmed, really,” said his wife, Mary Kaye. “We had no idea that all the groundwork had been done.”
Yeah, okay. sure. You didn’t know anybody around the table. Your wife had no idea. But yet, there was a PAC sending emails in March asking for $50,000 – $100.000 donations “ready to assist him if he decides to run for the presidency in 2012 and/or 2016.” Huntsman sent his resignation letter in January indicating he would stay thru the end of April. But he and his wife had no idea….
Hmmm. Okay… (is there a “side eye” smiley?)
It really is shady stuff. And if he walked into a ready made campaign – that means he had no say in his top level staffers all the way down the food chain. So it’s not even really his campaign – he’s the puppet candidate. The question becomes – “Who is pulling his strings”?
Excellent point – please tweet this? He’s either committed a crime, or he’s a puppet candidate stepping into a campaign that just happened to be waiting for a puppet. What do they call that? A manchurian candidate.
in the NYT times article yesterday:
As guests including Barbra Streisand and Yo Yo Ma mingled in three resplendent rooms in the White House in January to honor President Hu Jintao of China, David Axelrod, President Obama’s senior strategist, needed to take care of some political housekeeping.
The president’s envoy to Beijing, former Gov. Jon M. Huntsman Jr. of Utah, a Republican who was in town for Mr. Hu’s visit, was rumored to be considering a run for the boss’s job in 2012. Happening upon Mr. Huntsman in the State Room, Mr. Axelrod confronted him.
“He said, ‘I don’t know where this is all coming from,’ ” Mr. Axelrod recalled, “ ‘It’s way overblown.’ ”
When Mr. Axelrod shared that story during an interview last week, Mr. Huntsman was completing plans for an announcement on Tuesday that he indeed intends to run for president.
Mr. Huntsman’s decision prompted a mix of suspicion and resignation among the president’s advisers: suspicion that Mr. Huntsman had not always been straight about his national aspirations, and resignation that, as one presidential strategist put it, “There’s no loyalty in politics,” especially when it comes to across-the-aisle alliances.
Good morning TOD family. Love how our President spurs such excitement. Does anyone remember toward the end of George W. Bush presidency that he waived at some people as he was exiting Marine One someplace and they would not even waive.? So telling. He kept trying but he was ignored.
