I love my POTUS and VPOTUS. May God bless them and their families, the Obama Admin Staff, The Congress and The American People.
Amen, Carly. I can’t see the video from work, but I love your sentiment.
Our Great President Obama made a perfect choice for his Vice-President: the very wonderful Vice President Joe Biden…. blessings to him and his family as well. As they slander and print their rhetorical rubbish on a daily basis about the machinations behind the White House doors, they fail to print and publicize the efforts of our President to BRING HOME THE TROOPS from all the pending wars! Folks don’t even know the numbers so how can they think critically? To know that we have brought home 100,000 troops from Iraq is HUGE and instead of steaming about the process outlined to us last night about the Afghanistan removals, we should all read and understand the process and the timeline – and even though the MSM doesn’t give us all the adequate news we must dig til we get it right and then share it! Just like the Marvelous Chipsticks does for us and I thank you Chips for your enormous and incredible efforts to keep us truly informed!! and, I can’t thank V.P. Biden enough for always always always having our President’s back! You Go Joe – You Rock!!!!
Great commentary Nina. Brilliant and true!
Thank you utaustinliberal… i could simply scream sometimes at what we really don’t know! but this site is so awesome and so are all the folks of like mind I can find here – daily! i am a daily blogger on that HP crappy site -(since AOL took over drastic decline) and I am bombarded with hateful and hate-filled rhetoric – you guys deliver me back to sanity! (by the way: Austin is my favorite place in Texas!)
this is right :)
Hi Chipsticks and TOD family! I have been very busy with meetings and training in the Summer Organizer Program. I usually spend an hour before I go to bed catching up with my favorite sites. The good news is that I sense a definite shift in people’s reactions to our outreach. I still hear complaints about high unemployment and the state of the economy in addition to the ever-present demand to end all wars (immediately!), but more often than not the person will add that, of course, he or she will vote for President Obama in 2012. If I ask what is the most important reason for their choice, I get a variety of responses, but they can all be reduced to one overriding theme: the President is open to all points of view, he will try different approaches to difficult problems, but in his basic beliefs he is amazingly consistent and HE KEEPS HIS PROMISES. The Vice President’s statement is absolutely on target and will further strengthen confidence in the President’s leadership and the direction of his administration.
Thanks for that report, hgerhard — so encouraging :-D !
hgerhard, thanks so much for your hard work and dedication
That is so encouraging to hear.
Those 13 min and 17 secs of President Obama’s speech yesterday are rivaled only by the Gettysburg Address.
Of all the speeches he has given to this point, that one will be analyzed for decades and longer for its overarching implications to American Foreign and Domestic policy.
The Obama Doctrine crystallized in a profound, cogent 13 min and 17 secs.
And, in terms of building trust in an Administration, it was wise and effective for VP Biden to provide his heartfelt summary and clear message – ‘we keep our promises’ – as they have, persistently since Jan 2009.
Yes.We.Can. … DO.More.Together!
This is true Bob!
Tell them Joe….
I wish those loud mouth know it all would listen, I wish they really believe in this President, because I believe he is going to do what he said. Biden is right when he said they are keeping their promises. I’m so glad this President choose Biden to be his VP. Biden will stick up for President Obama, when all the other Democrats are going against him. Look at Al Gore and his article in the Rolling Stone. Another slap at the President by another Democrat. Couldn’t Gore call up the President and went to talk to him about his concerns, instead of going to the sorry ass media.
I feel the same way, as soon as I heard the news and saw the response his essay was getting from the PL, I thought: “why the hell is he back and why are they listening to him? wasn’t he allegedly accused of harassing a masseuse? And why is he even talking about PBO, he’s probably so jealous :jealous: He needs to bang the gavel on Congress not PBO, where the hell has he been over the past three years, hasn’t he seen how awful congress has been to PBO? How was he supposed to pass climate change bills? Shut up AL and go away!” Then I watched the 7pm Tweety recap and Joan from Salon and some guy was the guest and Tweety really gave it to them and Gore saying that there is NO WAY they should blame PBO for this because it’s the congress’ fault, PBO should not be held accountable for it.
Gore should have been all over congress when we had the majority if he wanted his climate change bills passed. Instead, I don’t know what he was doing -harassing massesues, allegedly-all this time. You know, there’s one thing I really appreciate about Bush, he broke shit, hid it and got the hell out before anyone really noticed and he’s stayed gone for 3 years. Sometimes that’s how I feel about Gore and Clinton (i.e.: telling Paul Ryan to call him)
Bush broke shit, hid it, got the hell out but stayed gone! LOL Lisa!
You’re are right and even when Bush ventures out, it is to support his party unlike Clinton who is all about self-promotion and sabotaging anyone who exceeds him!
I won’t even be surprised to hear that Bill Clinton is backing any one of these repulican presidential wannabes! Heck their good friend Lynn de Rothschild and several of his aides are working for Huntsman. Can anyone believe that the Clinton’s are no longer respected or wield no influence over these friends/aides who will appear to be publicly working against Hillary’s boss and Bill’s successor in the “family”!
The only plausible explanation is that these aides/friends have the Clinton blessing to overthrow the man who not only defeated the wife but also in less than 3 years into the first term, has already accomplished so much that eluded the husband as president!
I’m sorry but I think Hillary has been 100% supportive of the president since she stepped back. She’s been a loyal democrat, and she rejoiced with the President when health care was passed, and OBL was killed. So I don’t believe they would ever support a Republican for president. I just don’t. They fought hard to beat Obama, but it’s been over for a long time. I believe they support Obama now. As to the aide, maybe she’s changed her own political beliefs, or maybe she needs the money, who knows?
Love our VP!
Chip – another good one from Michael Grunwald – http://swampland.time.com/2011/06/23/al-gore-attacks-president-obama-for-failing-to-do-al-gores-job/ . I know we covered the media’s cherry picking yesterday, but Michael brings up a good point – “Al Gore takes some shots at President Obama in a new Rolling Stone essay, grumbling that he has “thus far failed to use the bully pulpit to make the case for bold action on climate change.” Wait: Isn’t that Al Gore’s job? The president’s job is the action, not the case-making. And while I don’t plan to spend all my time defending him against unfair attacks from the left, his actions on climate have been a lot bolder than Gore suggests.”
what has Al Gore ever fought for?
Gore should be out campaigning for the President and real strong Democrats that will make chit happen;not whine and moan and pass the buck
You are so right Rita. Where were Gore being out there pushing his cause? Why is it these people expect this man to do so much? He is only a human being. As I said another sorry Democrat going after the President. To be honest I don’t know if President Obama can even trust the Democrats. Another one who would have stood up for President Obama is Sen. Ted Kennedy. I believe that. We who support him will have to stand up for him. And I am prepared to do that.
anniebella – yes, I think Ted Kennedy’s passing was a great loss for the President. I agree that he would definitely have been a strong and vocal supporter. If President Obama had a few, just a few, Democrats who had the courage and conviction to support him, like our VP, I think the whole dynamics would have been different.
I’m right there with you anniebella and Rita. I mourn Teddy’s passing everyday. If he was alive and still in the Senate he would corral all these wayward dems and make sure they do their due diligence to those who elected them and stop whining and aid the President in the mess that was handed to him. Teddy was a champion, a lion and a warrior. He would be leading the charge in letting every American know the downward spiral that repubs want to take our country on.
I agree also. I think Ted Kennedy passing when he did really hurt the Democratic support for Obama. I know it would make him sad if he could see what his own party is doing to Obama.
Very good article, Rita. Grunwald makes a point at the end of the article that is key to exactly how Al Gore wanted to get more eyes and clicks on his piece: criticize the president. Think with the criticism he made about the media, this piece would have gotten the play it got yesterday? Not. And Al Gore knew this well.
Check this out.
……One suspects that Gore was a bit uneasy about his cheap shots, which he wrapped in sheepish apologetics: “Even writing an article like this one carries risks; opponents of the president will excerpt the criticism and strip it of context.” Of course, an Al Gore essay about the dangers of climate change wouldn’t be particularly newsworthy without a few swipes at the president. But you know how the entertainment-obsessed news media is. Always “building an audience.”…….
So that was an exact quote from the essay? well f-ck him. If he knew this could happen then he should have left out the Obama FAIL! part. Gore owns a channel so he is the media and he was manipulating his own to get coverage. Again Gore, f-ck you and shame on you.
Yes, this was his quote in the article. And this was the point I made in my e-mail to the media yesterday. I told them first that it was interesting that they deflected any criticisms of themselves. But beyond that I told them that Al Gore knew that by injecting this kind of criticism about the president would get his article more play. Additionally, I told them that Gore has influene, he has a TV station and he has followers that he could have whipped up into activists roles to badger Congress about moving on the Climate bill. Instead, everyone wants PBO to do their work.
Exactly what did Gore do? How many times did he go on the Hill or pick up the phone to sway a Senator on this bill?
That article is spot on and funny.
Excellent info from Joe the VP- happy to tweet & facebook, thanks Chips.
We are in the best hands possible…..I have complete faith and trust in our President and Vice President, and their goodness and decency resonates deeply in my heart.
So, the rpublicans just walked out of the debt talks with Biden.
They are really going to do this???
Of course, only republicans on tv to talk about this(of course) and they are blaming democrats. For saying, no raising taxes for revenue!
Where are the dems to push back?
The pubs wait til they are busy explaining the troop reduction!!!
Dems are always missing when it’s time to defend themselves, or play offense.
Dems have been pushing back and TPM reported that yesterday, Senate Dems came out and openly accused Repubs of trying to sabotage the economy so that one man (Obama) can lose his job.
Apparently, Tv producers only like to invite Dems on TV if they are going to criticize the President.
passing the buck on to boehner.

WE ARE EASING OUR HAND OUT OF THE LION’S MOUTH…..
Zakaria: Obama wants to rebalance U.S. foreign policy
COOPER: Were you surprised by the announcement of the levels of the troop withdrawal that we’re going to be seeing or allegedly will be seeing in Afghanistan?
ZAKARIA: I am not surprised, because I think Obama’s heart was always more with Joe Biden. If you remember, there was this debate. Biden wanted a much smaller troop presence in Afghanistan and a focus on counterterrorism. Petraeus and Gates said, no, let’s go in there and do the surge.
I think that Obama really was more in Biden’s camp, but the military outfoxed him by leaking their recommendations, and a Democratic president can’t go against certainly a military adviser like Petraeus.
COOPER: That’s interesting. So you think he was really more wanting the more counterinsurgency strategy?
ZAKARIA: Yes. I think so. I think his his basic view is that we have too large a military footprint in these places, that what we need to do is draw down and broadly rebalance American foreign policy away from this massive investment in Afghanistan, Iraq and the broader Middle East.
He wants to move to dealing with issues relating to the rise of China, India, Russia. And this I think means that you stay bogged down, because when you have those many troops in a country, Anderson, as you know, 90 percent of a president’s time ultimately is taken up on where American troops are.
(Full interview and video)
Pre-bin Laden being killed and post bin Laden being killed. Calling Obama weak on terror/security won’t work anymore.
Stupid, self centered people bore me, so the opinions of the TH’s/PL are dust in the wind. (Buddhist thinking) Fighting back is one thing, but CARING is another.
I care about the woords and avtions of our administration and many bloggers (whom I ironically met through DKOS) and my family and friends. And even my cat, more than the PL.
Go, Joe. You are a thousand times more a “mensche” than Gore ever was as VP. And you are not a sedative with legs, as he was.
Happy thursday TOD family :D
From my twitter timeline:
RT @Shoq: As I understand it, it’s better to risk our lives to a #GOP Senate & White House, rather than support a Democrat who isn’t Jesus #p2
Before the 2010 midterms, I kept saying to myself if we lose the majority in either the House of the Senate the frustrai/PL will realize how harmful it is to be constantly finding fault with everything President Obama is trying to do and telling people not to vote. I figured if the Republicans gained the majority we would see obstruction on steroids and it would be a wake up call. The frustrai would mend their ways and get on board and support the president. Fast forward and this is what we have been presented with…..
1) There have been zero jobs bills introduced by the Republicans.
2) The jobs bills introduced by the Democrats have been voted down or ignored.
3) They held the country hostage during the 2011 budget debate taking negotiation down to the eleventh hour.
4) They are currently holding the country hostage over the raising of the debt limit. BTW, the debt limit was raised at least five times during the Bush administration.
5) They are accusing President Obama of violating the war powers act and threatening to cut off funds for the NATO lead mission in Libya.
6) They are threatening not to fund or confirm anyone for the CFPB. They don’t think the American people should KNOW before they OWE.
7) They are systematically trying to disenfranchise voters across the country in red states.
8) They are systematically trying to dismantle unions.
9) They have focused on abortion and eliminating Planned Parenthood funding. They have an anti-woman agenda.
10) They want to end Medicate as we know it and replace it with a voucher system.
11) They believe we can grow the economy by giving tax breaks to the wealthy and drastically cutting spending…EVEN though we all know that doesn’t work because they did that during the Bush administration and that is why we are in this mess.
12) They think high unemployment will be good for them in 2012. None dare call it sabotage.
13) Senator Shelby blocked the appointment of Pete Diamond a Nobel Prize winning economist with specialty in labor and unemployment. Shelby just didn’t think he had the right credentials.
14) They have a slat of lackluster presidential candidates. The thought of any of any one of them getting the nomination is horrifying.
The media continues to report on the GOP as if they are a credible opposition party. And with all of that in mind, the PL/frustrati have not changed their tune one bit. In fact, it’s worse than ever. They still find fault with everything President Obama does. They are so desperate for attention that every time PBO accomplishes something they have to find fault or move the goalpost. What is really tragic is that’s exactly what the Republicans have been doing so effectively. Birds of a feather.
Cantor walks out of debt talks, leaves it up to boner and the president:
Just was gonna link that, Jovie. Feh on Cantor.
Wish I could come up with something more intelligent to say about the man, but I just can’t see wasting my time on him.
Cantor is nothing but a mediocre, incompetent airhead with zero ideas who has only managed to rise in a poltical party that is sorely lacking in brain power and patriotism!
This a man whose only allegiance is to Netanyahu/Israel, the Koch brothers/corporations that fund him and of course his bank account!
Even if he knew how, which he obviously doesn’t, Eric Cantor has no interest in fixing the economy and getting the country back on track! This low-life piece of shit masquerading as a United States congressman only serves his corporate masters who wish to destroy the middle class!
Plus, he’s sworn his allegiance to Israel over his own country. Treason, for sure.
EVERYONE knows that the debt ceiling must be raised; we cannot and will not default on our loans because the world economies are so inter-connected ( the domino effect of the current crisis for example). Even a hint of this possible default has caused rumblings in other economies. The GOP is playing chicken again and for some reason they expect the president to blink; but they never learn. I am sure they are trying to add all kinds of conditions that have notheing to do with the current issue as they have in previous budget negotiations. How do they sleep at night? It is as if they are sociopaths. This walking out like a child who does not gets his way, is disgusting (Cantor). They should all listen to the regualr citizens. Most of us do nnot expect perfection, but we do expect our representatives to govern in good faith to move the country forward. How did so many prima donnas and nitwits get elected? Shame on us. PBO cannot do it alone; we have a thre–pronged governement system for a reason. Oh, but wait; most of the elected officials do not appear to understand what the responsibilities of each graoup are. Sigh. My students know better than most of them.
You’re absolutely right CEB, everyone knows that the debt ceiling has to be raised. America cannot default on it’s loan. Defaulting would be catastrophic to say the least. America’s economy is a global economy and many nations look to our economy for guidance. It’s ridiculous that they would play chicken in these debates… b/c they know the domino effect that a default would bring about. If the economic woes of Greece caused some kerfuffle in the global markets, just imagine what that would look like if there was a hint that the debt ceiling would not be raised. The republicans are such hypocrites; they raised the debt ceiling 7 times under Bush’s Administration but oh no they’re now the party of so called “fiscal responsibility.” There’s a saying “if America sneezes, the rest of the world catches a cold.” Republicans don’t want to be on the resulting end of that flu epidemic.
Should not type when I am P***ed off; sorry for the errors.
