    Looking good, Mr. Prez!

I see there’s a new barber on the job, thank goodness. I was getting tired of seeing my boo scalped every other week.

While President Obama is trying to do everything in his power to ensure economic recovery and job creation, Majority Leader Eric Cantor has a temper tantrum and walks out of the debt limit meeting with Vice President Biden. Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi weighs in at “The Gavel”.

WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH, MAJORITY LEADER ERIC CANTOR GETS GOING:

    ****************************************
Yesterday, Leader Cantor abandoned the bipartisan Vice President Biden-led debt talks that were set to continue in good faith – undermining weeks of work and placing the American economy in serious jeopardy. While Democrats are committed to reducing the deficit in a responsible way that creates jobs, preserves Medicare, and strengthens the middle class, Republicans have insisted on protecting tax breaks for Big Oil and corporations that ship jobs overseas.

THE NEW YORK TIMES – Their Temper Tantrum:

Congressional Republicans, who played a major role in piling up the government’s unsustainable debt in the first place, have thrown a tantrum and walked out of the debt limit talks. This bit of grandstanding has brought the nation closer to the financial crisis that Republicans have been threatening for weeks. But, at least now, their real goals are in sharp focus.

The two Republicans in the talks, Representative Eric Cantor, the House majority leader, and Senator Jon Kyl, the minority whip, had no intention of actually negotiating. Negotiations require listening to those on the other side and giving them something they want in exchange for some of your goals.

It has been obvious all along that cutting government services alone is not a solution to either the budget deficit or the mounting national debt. The Democrats, at least, acknowledged that reality at the bargaining table by saying that along with the cuts the Republicans cherish, there would have to be increases in revenue — an end to unnecessary tax loopholes for corporations or the rich…

The deadline for raising the debt limit or facing a default is Aug. 2. Republicans cannot walk away from their responsibility to pay the bills and keep the economy out of further crisis.

Very good to see this push back from Democrats and the media. Let’s help keep this message afloat by sending these links via twitter, facebok, e-mail or by whatever means.

Thanks Ladyhawke for this post. I am glad the Dems are fighting back and are focused on the needs of the people, instead of trying to reward the rich. This crop of Republicans seems bent on destroying the country so that they can deny President Obama a second term. Their # 1 goal is regaining presidential power, at any cost.

Every time these teabagger-Republicans invoke their patriotism I feel like puking. When it comes to propaganda, and party discipline, requiring all Republicans to march lock step in support of the Republican ideology, these Teabagger-Republicans, who never miss a chance of accusing President Obama of socialism, make the Russian communists look like amateur Democrats . Any Republican who dares to voice an independent opinion/thought, that go against the approved Republican orthodoxy ideology, is immediately ostracized.

I doubt that any reasonable person ever imagined that the Republicans would opt for the destruction of America just to make ensure that a duly elected president, who happens to be BLACK, is denied a second term. It seems to me that GOP is ready to punish all Americans simply because the majority of Americans (53%) voted for a BLACK guy to be president.

He really does. That smile is lethal.

I listened to the speech on c-span and the initiative is bold and sorely needed for research and development. The repubs tend to forget it was investments in R&D that led to NASA, computers, the internet, the ipods, ipads and iphones, GPS, the creation of Google. I could go on and on. Thank goodness we have a President who understands that education, science and technology are part of the fundamentals that makes a country a global leader.

Dear President Obama, continue to walk by faith and not by sight for God is leading the way and HE will make it alright. Keep the faith and continue on this journey, holding on to HIS unchanging hand. This is my prayer.

GGail, may I say Amen, Amen, and Amen. May he also live daily trusting in his faith in Him to give wisdom as he asks for it to fight the battles that come his way daily. His arm is strengthen by the hand of a Higher Power that is merciful, peaceful, loving, and firm in all His ways. I have faith that we will All come together with our own faiths of beliefs and bring the harmony from around us to a place where this President will feel our strength and presence. May he be blessed today already, Lord.

Excellent talk by President Obama. “And by the way, that’s why I ran for President. Not just to get us to where we were. I ran for President to get us where we need to be.” I liked when he talked about “all hands on deck”, the coming together of academic minds, biz and technology to re-invigorate manufacturing. And liked his haha—-”indestructible military grade diapers”. President Obama is the best, trying his hardest, doing everything imaginable and asking us to “come together for a common cause.”
