President Obama speaks at a DNC fundraiser in Philadelphia, June 30

Washington Post: President Obama raised more than $1.2 million at two campaign fundraisers in Philadelphia on Thursday night, the last events of his money-raising blitz in this early stage of the 2012 campaign.

Campaign officials said about 800 people, each giving at least $100, attended the first event, at a Hyatt hotel. Later in the evening, Comcast’s executive vice president, David L. Cohen, hosted about 120 people in his home for a dinner, each of the attendees giving at least $10,000 for Obama’s reelection campaign.

Among the attendees were Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter (D). Dinner was arranged by restaurateur Stephen Starr, whose popular eateries include Morimoto and Buddakan.

Cohen, a longtime Democratic operative, has successfully sheparded the regulatory review of Comcast’s merger with NBC Universal earlier this year.

He is not the only high-tech or telecom executive to show early support for Obama’s reelection bid. In San Francisco last spring, Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff hosted a fundraiser for the president in his home, and Google executive Marissa Mayer has hosted a reported $30,000-a-head Democratic fundraiser featuring Obama last October….

When it comes to raising BIG BANK, David Cohen combined with our ex-Phila mayor and ex-PA Governor “Fast Eddie” Ed Rendell, are ridiculous. They can pull money out of thin air.

And as for the dinner at David Cohen’s house, it was $10, 000 just to be there. It was $35,000 to actually sit down at the table for dinner with President Obama. (I wonder if it was $60,000 to actually use a knife and fork? $80,000 for dessert??? )

Rumor has it that another nobody is entering the presidential race today: Rep. Thaddeus McCotter. His big claim to fame is being an ultra Bush cheerleader for the Iraq Debacle. Oh, and threatening to introduce a House Resolution on July 2009 calling on President Obama to apologize to police Sergeant James Crowley for his remarks about the arrest of Henry Louis Gates, Jr. if President Obama didn’t issue an apology first on his own.

Honestly, where do they find these guys?

Yeah, David Cohen is a big time Democrat in the Philadelphia area. But he didn’t always work for Comcast. He’s powerful, but he’s also there to work his connections for the big Comcast NBC merger.

Thanks for the info isonprize. With the crazy rightwing talking points on MSNBC after the Comcast-NBC merger, I thought everyone at Comcast was a rightwing shill machine. Thank goodness not all the Comcast executives and head honchos drink from the rightwing nutjob fountain.

    Good morning everyone,

Just finished watching the inauguration of Jacksonville Florida’s first AA mayor and first democratic mayor in 20 years. In his speech, Mayor Brown used many themes that are cornerstones of PBO speeches. He even has a former rival on his team. Good feelings in the city today. Hope we can be a 21st century leading city in the state. On the other hand, people have been so annoyed with Rick Scott’s robo calls that they have complained in the media, questioned who is paying for the calls and are looking for ways to block them. These are the calls where he begs rupublicans to put the word out about his so-called accomplishments. We all know, of course, about the form letter (mocked on Colbert’s show) that he wanted people to send to the newspapers. I guess he thought that he could run the state the way he ran his fraudulent businesses.

Hi CEB, I live in St. Johns County just south of Jacksonville and Mayor Brown’s election was an amazing surprise!!!! Just awesome. I got one of Rick Scott’s robo calls last week and felt like smashing my phone!! That criminal is going to be our biggest asset here in Florida. Damn, there are REPUBLICANS that hate him.

Oh yeah glad that ComCast is a Democat supporter. Rick Scott signed off so that the Sun Rail project will come to Central FL. Guess Mr. Scott is trying to improve his likeability. Not. He gave away a bigger transportation project. And he has the ability to ask for federal money to allow for an individual to take care of their love one at home rather than in a nursing home. And he refuses. What a jerk of a governor.

Yep, that’s Politics in Florida; the good, the bad, and the just plain ugly. Hope we will begin to have more of the good as people wake up to just how terrible the GOP is for everyone who is not mega-rich

Pamela, heard the great news about FCAT in your area., congrats ! We have held on to our overall B grade so far. Waiting for the high school data.

People like winners and PBO has shown that he is one big time. These are smart people and they know a good investment when they see one. This is true for all donors big and small. PBO is the only candidate to whom I have donated; best investment I have ever made.

Hey gc. Jews didn’t turn on Obama. I think the news report you read from was one I also read. (the lying hacks) President Obama is at 76-78% approval with Jews, and J-Street, a more relevant Jewish organization than AIPAC put out a poll saying that lots of Jews agreed with President Obama’s Israel-Palestine policy speech and they will be donating in droves for him to win re-election.

I can’t wait for a fundraiser with POTUS and FLOTUS both attend. That would be great.

I want to talk more about what the Republicans are doing to the economy. We need to put this out there, talk to our family, friends, whomever. Tweet it, put it on facebook. The Republicans are trying to sabotage this economy all for the sake of 2012. And we have to let people know that. The Democratic Senator from New York spoke about this yesterday . And I was so glad to hear that. This is the reason why you see no job bills, why the Republicans kill anything the Democrats try to bring forth. With the debt ceiling, they are playing around with the welfare of this country, all in hopes of winning in 2012. This economy could go into a depression, but they don’t care.
