‘my way or the highway’

The Hill: …. Harry Reid said Thursday House Majority Leader Eric Cantor acted “childish” in the debt talks. He is the the latest Democratic leader to accuse Cantor of impeding progress on negotiations to raise the nation’s debt ceiling.

“…. he has shown he shouldn’t be at the table and Republicans agree he shouldn’t be at the table,” Reid said from the Senate floor. “We had negotiations going here …. and he has walked out on the meetings with the vice president of the United States,” said Reid recounting a Cantor’s exit from the talks hosted by Vice President Biden. “It was childish.”

…. Obama and Democrats have become increasingly irked with Cantor as he has advocated for the more conservative elements of the House Republican Conference and drawn a hard line against tax increases in any deal to raise the $14.3 trillion deficit ceiling.

In focusing his ire at Cantor, Reid is following the lead of his No. 3 in the Senate, Charles Schumer who on Wednesday said Cantor was the only congressional leader who has failed to make meaningful concessions or bring a plan to the table in the ongoing debt-ceiling negotiations.

“There is one person who hasn’t come up with a plan, hasn’t compromised, hasn’t reached out to the other side in an effort to move forward, and that is the majority leader in the House, Mr. Cantor,” Schumer said from the Senate floor. “He is the only one who still says, ‘My way or the highway.’”

Business Insider: Former GOP Senator Alan Simpson had strong words for lawmakers Tuesday over their failure to reach a deal on raising the debt ceiling and lowering the deficit.

“The American people are disgusted at both parties,” the Republican co-chair of President Barack Obama’s fiscal commission told ABC News. “Everybody says, ‘What in the hell is going on?’” he said. “The American people are smarter than their politicians.”

Simpson and former White House Chief of Staff Erskine Bowles reached a comprehensive plan for deficit reduction relying on both revenues and spending cuts that has been alternately derided and embraced by both parties — mostly to criticize their political foes.

Simpson saved some of his harshest criticisms for Republicans, saying their stance on revenues is baffling. “The stuff that’s going on in my party, where the – pettiness overcomes the patriotism – it’s just disgusting to me,” he told ABC News. “Reagan raised taxes. We’ve never had less revenue to run this country since the Korean war.”

Cantor is a bloviator and a bit stupid. He’s prancing about for tea bagging cred and is about to
get his silly behind tossed by the GOP. Only nutty baggers and people who
couldn’t care less about the country are pleased about what Cantor is doing. The GOP
needs to shut him down . . . . Or just let him be the fall guy when everything falls
apart, then make sure he gets all the vilification.

that pic made me forget for a moment my reason to post: Janice Hahn won the 36th Congressional District Democratic House seat here in Southern California! She will go to Washington for swearing in on Monday. Her mother passed away on this past Tuesday and her funeral is scheduled for this Saturday. May God rest her soul. The whole Hahn family has dedicated their lives and careers to public service and we here in Southern California have been blessed to have the family representing us. We are proud of Janice’s success and wish her all the best! One more for our team in da HOUSE!

Good morning Chips and TOD family. Cantor is a child throwing a tantrum in a grownup game. He does not care about who is going to get hurt. He only wants his way. I pray people are waking up to what evil people they are. I have a slow day at work today so I can check out what is going on here. Is anyone listening to Bernecke? What is he saying.

  8. July 14, 2011 at 11:57 am

Cantor needs to be brought down to size! He’s too too stuck on himself. He’s a BULLY!

This has been around for a while.

GOP House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia is invested in mutual funds that will pay dividends if the U.S. economy defaults.

How in the name of everything holy nobody in the fucking media talking about it??

    Sorry for the bad word…..

I don’t know where I saw it, but in a piece I read…in his prep school graduation picture, under his name it said: “I want what I want, when I want it.” That would be HIS description of HIMSELF! To link to The Hill and read the comments, there ARE people stupid enough to defend his childish antics. If he were MY kid, he would be SO grounded! He needs to get his sorry ass smacked into last year. And wipe that smart ass smirk off your face before I do it for you!

First it was tap, tap, tap ….

Then it was bang, bang, bang …

And, now its pound, pound, pound ….

The Democratic leadership and the President always knew that the one thing they could count on from the Cant-whore is his intransigence, lust for power, and total subservience to teabagger bigotry.

Thus, they knew they had a wedge and they would start gently taping it into place, and then with it seated well in the crack between Republicans and the spawn of Reagan/Norquist anti-democratic government funded by their avaricious masters – the Kock Brothers, various Dominionists, etc – the Democratic Leadership and the President would bring the sledge hammer to the wedge.

That sound you will now hear throughout DC is the incessant pounding of that Cant-whore wedge and what you will witness is the fission of the Republican Party into some collection of non-demagogic conservatives and raving lunatics led by Cantor, Bachmann, Palin or some other nihilistic, narcissistic sociopath.

The only remaining question is which group will Jane, Ariana, Cenk, GG, Ed, etc pander. We certainly know they are totally exposed anti-Democratic Party and the democratic governance principles that must persist if every American is to have the opportunity to reach their fullest potential – the governance principles that President Obama has displayed by his actions, not his words since Jan 2009.

    Interesting times.

Hahahahaha Bob said “Cant-whore.” BEST. PHRASE. EVER.

I was watching Morning Joe this morning and apparently it’s not only Senate and Rep Dems who think Cantor is acting like a child. Senate and Rep Repubs who’ve been in both chambers for multiple terms are pissed off at him. Apparently they’ve tried over and over again to talk to him and caution him. They say he’s giving America the wrong view of congressional republicans: that they’re childish, intransigent, unwilling to compromise, in the pocket of the uber wealthy and above all dumb. (in my opinion, he’s merely showing Americans in bold technicolor exactly who todays GOP is) He just dismisses their concern. They’ve apparently also told Speaker Boehner to draw Cantor aside and put a muzzle on him, but there’s bad blood between Cantor and Boehner even though they buddy it up in front of the press. Cantor still has the mentality of a tantrum throwing child who thinks all he has to do is stomp his feet, be rude, yell loudly and presto! you get what you want. Plus he is heavily gunning for Boehner’s leadership position. If I were Boehner I would find a way to work with President Obama, because Cantor would throw his mother under the bus without blinking or showing remorse.

“in my opinion, he’s merely showing Americans in bold technicolor exactly who todays GOP is”

Your opinion could not be more accurate, utaustin!

And, many Republicans and increasingly most ‘independents’ have seen all the ‘technicolor’ of the teabaggers that they can stand.

Can’t believe this fool stands to profit if there’s a default. Cantor needs a well deserved beatdown. And where the f**k is Boehner? Crying in a corner, or what?

    • July 14, 2011 at 1:04 pm

That’s the problem right there, John Boehner. Is he Speaker, or is Cantor speaker? Boehner have not shown any leadership. Do anyone remember Pelosi. A real Speaker who could get the job done.

The wonderful thing about all of this is that the rethugs supported these tea-baggers when it looked like they were going to bring down the president. Now they are stuck with these lunatics. Even Morning Joke recognizes that these people are nuts. But you know the old saying “when you lie down with pigs, you come up smelling like garbage”. Word to the wise to the rethugs — “Be careful the forces you put in motion as they always return to the source”. Karma is a bitch ain’t it! Wishing Cantor and the rest of the Rethugs a disasterous meltdown. Karma is a “mighty bitch”!

Cantor is a bully who is out of control. Look at the teabaggers standing there with him this morning. The loud mouth and very disrespectful Rep. Walsh to your far left. Just look at the teabaggers that are standing with Cantor. Cantor is NO match for President Barack Obama. I have no respect for him from what I see from his words and actions, however, I am very thankful that we have a President who is so far ahead of these people and their clownish behavior. No use for Cantor.
