President Barack Obama works on his remarks in the Outer Oval Office before making a statement to the press regarding the Senate’s vote on the Budget Control Act of 2011, Aug. 2
I’m telling you, there should be a sexy calendar entitled: All The President’s Men……… yum! Don’t think I’ve seen a bigger group of sexy men working in the same place……wooohoooo!!!! Man, if I was an intern at the WH…………………… well.

Note to Chipsticks: Thank for fixing my comment last night. I tried to reply when I saw your notation but I couldn’t from my iPad that I was using. (((HUGS))) to you!
It’s all good President Obama. I am neither an emoprog or a headless chicken running around spreading the false meme that the debt deal is all doom and gloom. Carry on sir. I for one am SOLIDLY behind you every step of the way through thick and thin. OBAMA/BIDEN 2012. Onward we march!
Carry on Mr. President. We got your back! And while you’re busy running the Country, we’ll be raising hell at MSNBC about Pat Buchanan by email, calls and/or tweets. We want them to hear us LOUD AND CLEAR that we will not tolerate anyone disrespecting our President in any WAY!!!
Odd yet incredibly comforting to see him so involved in crossing t-s and dotting i-s!! He is truly never far from the hard slog of governing. WE LOVE YOU, POTUS.
I was sick of the doom and gloom so I amused myself playing around on Youtube and making a happy video. Lots of smiles and sunshine. It’s summer……I’m going to enjoy this President no matter what. I ain’t no expert but I knows what I likes.
I assume that they’re pulling the same gimmick where they can block recess appointments. No way would they risk the CFPB nominees being recess appointed.
HELP! Anyone know where I can read and print out the debt ceiling agreement? My daughter and her fiance are falling for the PL hype and I’d like to do a thorough job of countering it. Thanks!
It’s not hype. All financial firms as well as the market have indicated the deal will contract the economy by 1.5%. It’s why Moody’s while keeping AAA has put the US on negative outlook.
Check out TPV( The People’s View) It’s on chips blogroll to the right. Yesterday Deaniac or TIMT had a post up about what was in the debt ceiling agreement.
Sorry this is a bit long…but I didn’t want to put the link, I found it on CoffeePartyUSAforAmerica in Defense for Obama.
Good read….and so true it’s time to hit the street…From Egypt to Wisconsin…..and on to the Whole Nation…
You think Selma was Big……the 2011/2012 Civil Rights March will be something never seen in history….Get your boots ready Soldiers!!!!
Let me be clear, I think the Budget Control Act of 2011 is a terrible bill. (The only saving grace is that it leaves Social Security, Medicaid, College Programs, and the recipient side of Medicare untouched. It also institutes deep cuts in the military budget.) I understand and appreciate the objections coming from my brethren on the left, but there was absolutely no way the President was going to get a better bill. The fact is: the current crop of Republicans, through their actions in manufacturing this “crisis” and then using the threat of the world’s first Great Depression On-Purpose to force a radical minority agenda on America’s fragile economy and struggling families demonstrates a complete disregard for democracy, the rule of law, and for the future of our country.
The bill agrees to budget cuts that disproportionately affect the poor and middle class, even though the majority of Americans wanted a balanced approach that included increased taxes on the wealthy, who were the only real beneficiaries of Bush’s tax cuts, of 30 years of supply side economics, and the Great Recession, and the bailouts. Selective payment of debt in the event of a default is unconstitutional (14th Amendment). Holding the threat of our country defaulting lest the President agree to no bad economic policy that favors the rich and hurts America is simply unpatriotic.
Many on the left accuse Obama of being a poor negotiator because he seems to negotiate from the center and then move right as opposed to starting from the left and moving to the center. This is true, but one must ask why. President Obama was a community organizer who worked in the some of the poorest areas of Chicago. Do you think that with his intellect he could possibly be anything but progressive? Of course he is a progressive, but he is also a pragmatist, and like everyone else in Washington, he is first and foremost a politician.
President Obama is a politician with an instinct to plan for the long term. Obama is no accidental president. He wants to make lasting changes on behalf of the 99% of Americans who can’t afford their own lobbying firm or news channel. That is what the ruling elite fears the most, and, it is for that reason that they are, literally, sparing no expense to deny him a second term by forcing backward policies that will harm our economic recovery and distracting America with political theater about our national debt. And that is the reason why, if even a semblance of populism is uttered by the President, plutocrats shift into attack mode. They know a reelected, popular President Obama with coattails would be an unstoppable force for the middle class and the poor. For powerful factions in the ruling class, it is better to see America fail than to see it succeed under Obama. The groundwork, however weak, has been laid for the necessary economic restructuring. A lot of what we are seeing now is an attempt to undermine that.
Every president can be more effective. Every president makes mistakes. President Obama is no exception. In those times when he falters or when he disappoints it does neither the base nor the progressive cause any good to weaken him by piling on as just about every progressive body, media, commentator, or journalist has.
Many assume President Obama was going to waltz into office and create change. That was really naïve. When a President gets to that office because of the shear volume of issues he confronts, he loses sight of those with the least power, the least visibility. Unlike the Tea Party, the left has been ineffective, other than in Wisconsin, in creating a visible popular movement to demand progressive policy.
The ball was dropped in the 2010 election when too many voters stayed home, allowing the right to assume they had a mandate with their massive victory, not only federally but throughout the individual states. Many blamed President Obama for not sufficiently giving progressives a reason to vote. The debt ceiling debacle is a direct result of the progressives’ failure to turn out the vote in 2010. As we all know by now, the debt ceiling has been raised countless times in the past regardless of who was President and who might have opposed him in Congress. This job-killing, economy-slowing political sideshow is an example of what can happen when extremists are given an opportunity to hold power in what is supposed to be a democratic process. Maybe now it will be easier to make the case that elections — even midterm elections — matter. It was on election day 2010 that the hostage crisis should have been prevented. After that, the hostage-takers were already in the People’s house. This crisis was only a matter of time. And, there will be another one.
Progressives must remember that our politicians are but vessels that must be directed. Making appearances on TV, radio, blogs, and online simply is not enough. Sitting behind a computer screen and keyboard is not enough. As the Tea Party proved, and the populist movement in Wisconsin is showing, progressives must hit the pavement and organize. Where are the bus tours to stimulate coverage for the Peoples Budget? Where is the barrage of progressive books? Before we put all the blame on this President, it may help if he knows if he steps out or as he is prevented from stepping out, he has not only poll numbers on the issues, but his base getting his back
I agree with most of this comment…but I think more was accomplished, pell grants can not be touched, no more of this craziness until 2013, revenue is going to be raised one way or another; either taxes or major defense cuts…
beautiful and so fricking true. I’ve asked about how to mobilize a march a million times. Who would we get in contact to do that? How would we be able to do that? Do we call/tweet/e-mail Rev. Al, the NAACP, OFA in order to organize? I’ve never marched before so I have no idea how to lay the ground work so I would imagine we would need to do so in conjunction with some organization that is able to mobilize a lot of people. PBO needs to know we are with him. Congress needs to know we are on to them. How do we go about doing this? They’ve got to see our faces, they’ve got to hear our voices. We have to let them know we mean business.
Thank you so much Lisa,
When I read that article….it is something I’ve been advocating for a while…even back when the Teaparties where out there almost everyday….demonstrating, state by state, city by city, the might be uneducated, but their masters knew exactly where to put their $$$…on buses, trains and had them march, demonstrate, like anything Ive seen…and we saw the outocome in the shellacking of the 2010 primary, We allowed it to happen while some where out there…too many sat by the sidelines.
This paragraph rang so true for me:
Where are the bus tours to stimulate coverage for the Peoples Budget? Where is the barrage of progressive books? Before we put all the blame on this President, it may help if he knows if he steps out or as he is prevented from stepping out, he has not only poll numbers on the issues, but his base getting his back
My thing is why do people have to wait to demonstrate. I know if we were out there hitting the street the outcome of the Debt/Ceiling wouldn’t have been a ransom bill..and maybe a Clean bill would have passed.
Know my take in being pro-active would be to mobilize; you asked how? I would start with OFA, DNC, after all we are all giving money, they can use it, in how We the People would like to have it spent. We gave to Feingold, Grayson…and they were the back stabbers (look at what’s going in their state)…No More, We have the right to demand that messaging include funding for Marches, Demonstration, my God we have 9.2% people unemployed, I am sure that they would love to be on that bus demanding equal justice, Jobs, health care and so on.
We can’t wait for PBO to do it all, I am sure that when he sees, the other side hitting the street, He might be wondering? Where are my supporters? He doesn’t only need them to fill the stadiums while he’s campaigning, He needs them throught times he’s trying to pass Progressive Agenda’s, He needs them to have his back when he looks outside, just like the night he killed OBL, to chant “We got you back” I wished PBO would have said, Get out there demonstrate, march, instead of Tweet, Phone and Email, that too being an effective tool…But there’s nothing like a visual gathering of millions demanding their rights…..If Egypt was able to organize and throw a dictator of 30 years…why can we being the majority do the same.
Ok…Enough of my rant.
I thought I would check in before I went to bed. So glad to see a new thread and the great picture of our President writing his pen speech. I think a calendar or the Prsident and all his men would be exceptional! !!!! I know I would buy several.
I had just read that article and thought it was great.
Also on the Rev Al’s show tonight he talked about a march on Washinton Aug. 27th. He talked to Tom Joyner. It’d to be about jobs. I wish I could go.
Good night everyone see you in the morning.
I take issue with this one point in this article. Before the 2010 election President Obama went throughout this country telling us not to give the keys back to the Repubs. The tea party was cutting up pretty bad and the media showed us how disrupted they were acting. If that was not an incentive enough, I don’t know what President Obama could have done more than giving us admonitions and warnings and besides we were seeing how hateful they were. If Sarah Palin and others are their leader, then we should have known better. She started that shiggedy in the 08 campaign. We should listen to our President more and pundits less. I know Bush destroyed that credibility by lying about weapons of mass destruction. But we have to trust President Obama more because he has proven many times over that he is a man of his word and he always delivers.
Thanks for posting this. Randi Rhodes talked about this briefly on Monday about the CBO baseline. Someone stated on a previous thread that Boehner likes 98% of this bill….of course he does. He knows the details of this bill. Some of the dumbnuts in his caucas, not so much. Our President’s brain is so on overdrive and everyone rushed to bash him on the TV and didn’t even read the bill or lied about it. Yes he is willing to work with others, but he is far from naive….that just throws off the idiots who think he’s on the ropes. No, this is not a great bill, but with the crazies he was working with, he did do a pretty good rope-a-dope for our benefit. History will prove what a skilled politician he is with the hand he was dealt with this Congress.
If you start reading the analyses coming out today…a little cooler…you will see what he did for the long run. The Bush Tax Cuts WILL expire at the end of 2012, which will raise revenue to a good place. That alone will take care of some of the deficit and put us back stronger. HALF of the cuts HAVE to come from Defense, the Republicans’ big baby doll. They don’t want to lose those big governent contracts to their supporters. Read closely, the PL is careless in its analysis, and to get this passed, Boehner had to shade the facts. Let’s see how this falls out. Cooler heads did prevail. Do you really think VP Biden and President Obama would give away the store? They protected the people who need protecting, and now the Republicans are going to have to defend billionaires’ tax breaks.
Have any of you heard or seen Cantor bragging about this deal? I haven’t. That says a lot to me about it. And, if you notice, he is not in any of the pictures towards the end of the process. John Boehner, whom I do not like, does, however, know that revenue is the responsibility of the House. He, I am sure, did not want to go down in history as the Speaker of the House who allowed the USA to default. That would indeed be infamy. So, being a practiced pol, he did and said what he had to to get this to pass. Afterward, of course, he says he got 98% of what he wanted. If you read carefully, he didn’t. But lying doesn’t bother him a bit.
I’m telling you, there should be a sexy calendar entitled: All The President’s Men……… yum! Don’t think I’ve seen a bigger group of sexy men working in the same place……wooohoooo!!!! Man, if I was an intern at the WH…………………… well.

While the congress critter are away I think we need to give them something to deal with until they come back to work.

It was fun to make. I’m glad you all enjoyed it. We all deserve a break from the stress of the last few weeks.

Are both the House and Senate out for five weeks? Maybe he could do some recess appointments?
That would be very satisfying Jackie.

That should be whitehouse.gov
The fact sheet for the debt deal is on the white house.gov. site.
