Funny! I too love the cows that have beautiful eyes. It seemed to me the Swiss cows’ eyes are the pretiiest. When I spent a week in Switzerland this summer going from West to East in a rented car with some of my adult kids we did see cows, but none of those beautiful Swiss cows with the soft brown eyes. I see them in the US a lot.
Maybe it’s her phone number, but don’t worry, Michelle will take care of it. Just kidding folks. I bet Sasha and Malia would have loved to see those cows.

When I was meditating this morning that scripture came to me…I wanted to share it with PBO and TOD family.
I can just hear him. I bet he’s saying, “Now that’ s a good looking cow.” Cow looked embarrassed. But here’s a thought that just popped into my imaginative head. A few days ago I wrote about my Indy daughter going to the In. State Fair and visiting the animal barns and seeing the cows getting shampooed and blown dry. They actually fuss over them like it was the Westminster Dog Show. And she said the cows ended up looking “So Cute!” And I said “cows are nice” which is what I always say. Anyhoo, I have decided that President Obama or someone on his team loves The Obama Diary and got the idea about the cow visit here! Too fantastical? That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. And cows are nice. They just lie under the tree, minding their own business and gossip with their friends. (I grew up in Ia., had farmer grandparents, used to collect the eggs with my grandma and watched my grandpa milk the cows)
They are very docile…….and the new borns are hysterical with energy, They remind me of jumping beans. We returned a few weeks ago from my Mother’s rural South Dakota community, where some of my relatives still raise cattle, haul livestock and farm. Very peaceful and serene…and I love the lowing of the cattle out in the fields. My college boyfriends brother was a rancher in Wyoming, very different cattle operation, went to a branding event, oh lord that was rootin tootin raucus. No drugstore cowboys there.
Tweety’s favorite flavor, Perry (Texas Miracle, top layer of the cake) is imploding right before our eyes. He is getting instant exposure and scrutiny and it has not been a whole week yet. He and Bachmann are cut from the same cloth. They are still searching for the savior of the day. What is Mitt doing these days? Have not seen him since the “corporation are people” gaff. PBO is the real deal.
Mitt is stalking the President. He had the nerve to criticize PBO for going to Martha Vineyard’s to vacation. Well, guess what? Mitt is attending fund raisers there the same day. Hypocrite.

Mike Papantonio is substituting for Ed Schultz on his radio show today. I saw him on Ed’s tv show last night. When I saw that interview with 2 pundits on it I thought finally they have someone else to bash besides PBO. The conversation was about Rick Perry last night, but I know part of the show bashed PBO on unions and I scrolled past that part as I know Ed never gets that there can be other ways to look at things besides his way. Anotherwords you can still support the same things but react and strategize in different ways. Ed only sees things from his own point of view as it seems does Mike Papantonio.
Yeah and that “real progressive ” will win the Presidency just like Alan Grayson, Dennis Kucinich (in the 2008 Dem Primaries), Howard Dean and all those who have been so successful.

Any Democrat who would be foolish enough to try and primary the President would no longer have a future in the party, add to that the fact that they would also be unable to raise the $$$ necessary to mount a primary challenge, think of the 87 million dollars PBO raised last quarter alone. He also conveniently ignores the fact that the Democratic Party is made up of all types of Democrats, and the Ds that are not in the far left camp of the party far outnumber those who are, so we are supposed to believe that Democrats who aren’t members of the far left will flock to an unproven candidate? An unproven candidate that is challenging an incumbent who has the support of the vast majority of his base?

As President Barack Obama traveled to the first of two “town hall” stops in western Illinois today, top national and state Republicans criticized his campaign-style visit and criticized his use of a taxpayer-funded Canadian-manufactured bus as part of a jobs tour.But no mention was made by Republican National Chairman Reince Priebus or Illinois GOP Chairman Pat Brady that a re-election seeking President George W. Bush used a bus from the same manufacturer, Quebec-based Prevost, for a spring 2004 “Yes, America Can” campaign tour through the Midwest.
Not to mention that this is not PBO’s bus, it belongs to the secret service and will be for use of future Presidents too, I read the SS got the idea to get a bus from Reagan’s bus tour.
They have two of them, one eventually for the GOP nominee. Before they’d rent buses and have to trick them out with security at a high cost. These two buses will pay for themselves in 10 years with the savings from renting and altering doing things the old way.
PPP Poll in Wisconsin has Bachmann in first(24%), followed by Perry(21%) and Romney(17%) in 3rd!
No wonder Rove is desperate to get Christie or Paul Ryan in.
Candidates have to be officially declared by Nov 22nd, but anybody coming in now would probably to wait until September to enter to get a campaign staff together from virtual scratch. Now Iowa Caucus is going to be in early January, NH Primary in mid January, so anybody getting in in September will have four months before the Primaries start and things get real. And given the set-up the new moderate candidate would have to go all in in NH, and Romney has been there for months and spent millions there already, because they wouldn’t win Iowa or South Carolina, and Romney would win Nevada. So if they didn’t win NH, they’d be 0-4 in the first four primaries, and going all in in Florida isn’t a good strategy (see Giuliani in 2008), because it’s expensive as hell to advertise in and you get no free coverage since you’re getting blown out in first four primaries, so you’re seen as a non-entity.
So there is pretty much a firewall set-up against any new late comers. They’d need to be of name value to be able to compete with Romney in NH.
Cantor urges House GOP to avoid brinksmanship in spending fights

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) urged rank-and-file Republicans in a Wednesday memo to avoid brinksmanship in upcoming battles over Washington spending.
The message from the majority leader is an effort to prevent the kinds of fights over government spending that could lead to government shutdowns this fall if Congress cannot agree on legislation to fund the government.

Holy cow a bike trip across the nation? I’ve ridden from one side my state to the other @ 250 miles, a four day trip….but seriously across country, you are amazing, and I am sure very fit. How long did it take you? I am sure you have some crazy stories to tell about adventures along the way. We had beautiful weather, cooler temperatures and low humidty ,which is not typical of Minnesota at the end of July. I loved it, and even learned to appreciate hilly terrain. But I can not get over crossing the entire country on bike You should train for the Tour de France
It takes about six weeks (note that I was 29 at the time – couldn’t do it these days anymore).
But that’s not the most important part. When I was 29 I didn’t know the Midwest was known as “fly-over country” by the ‘coastal elites’ .
So I experienced all those states and the people living in them as they were – without prejudice (although pretty quickly I learned to avoid topics like politics and religion – after all, I *am* a die-hard European Socialist )
But the people are as nice as they look in these photographs, and that’s the important message !
What’s to stop them from changing one thing and then re-passing it assuming it’s repealed? Is there some law where it would have to be substantially different or would the only thing stopping them from doing that potential political fall out?
I think this is more an attempt to show the unions as unwilling to negotiate in hopes it would make folks say “Screw’em, if they don’t want to negotiate with the Gov, than they can swallow the whole bill”.
Like this snippet from the link and that “We Are Ohio, the lead organization behind the repeal referendum” said no deal. They called Kasich on the fact that the lawmakers can repeal it themselves without the unions.
“Today We Are Ohio once again stood firmly with the 1.3 million Ohioans who signed petitions to repeal SB 5 by telling the extreme politicians who passed it, to repeal it. Following a press conference held by Governor Kasich, Speaker Batchelder and Senate President Niehaus, We Are Ohio issued the following statement:
“‘We’re glad that Governor Kasich and the other politicians who passed SB 5 are finally admitting this is a flawed bill,’ said Melissa Fazekas, spokeswoman for We Are Ohio. ‘Just like the bill was flawed this approach to a compromise is flawed as well. Our message is clear. These same politicians who passed this law could repeal it and not thwart the will of the people. They should either repeal the entire bill or support our efforts and encourage a no vote on Issue 2.’”

Today there was buzz about him possibly jumping into the race, but that’s over.
New Jersey just got its credit rating downgraded by Fitch from AA to AA-.
It might not be a big deal, and it might not be his fault, but this should probably kill any buzz about him running for President right now, given that THE DOWNGRADE is expected to be such a salient point of attack for any eventual GOP nominee.
This is my third attempt at bragging about our beautiful Jersey cow. ( I kept getting side tracked.) The beautiful animal shown here, looks like a young Jersey heifer and reminds me of our beloved Io, a Jersey cow we bought in the 70s. We named her after the mythical Io, one of Zeus’ lovers. She was three years old at the time we bought her and had the most beautiful big dark eyes, and a darkish mask. We milked her for years until she was diagnosed by our vet as having heart failure, so she spent the last many months of her life as a pet.
The vet told us she was the oldest cow he’d ever seen still alive. She was put down by him in her pasture and buried there. There are apple trees now growing around her. Many memories of her antics included the loss of a young ash tree which she leaned over the fence and ate completely and very quickly within 12 inches of the ground
We shed many tears to see her go. Two of our kids learned to milk her by hand.
I loved that you shared it…I have never meet of pair of eyes, belonging to a cow that I didn’t find beautiful. And how lovely to be reminded of her by the life that continues to grow around her resting place.
This post has reminded me of many, many experiences I have had around cattle as well. In fact I am in a very reflective mood today taking stock and being reminded of lots of experiences that I have kept tucked deep in my memory.
Joan, I grew up with my grandfather who had tons of different animals and I tried to learn how to milk a cow but that was a challenge and never happed which is one of my regrets. It is great to hear that two of your kids did learn to milk a cow; that is some hard stuff to learn.

The hill website keeps pushing budget fights in september, but the budget was deem and pass in the debt deal. Thus, their is no budget fights for 2012!

Courage Campaign just sent me an email saying that OBAMA’S GOING TO CUT THE BUDGET TO ZERO AND THROW US TO THE WOLVES OHMYGOD!!! I unsubscribed, and in the “reason” typed: “Another attack on President Obama. I’ve had my fill.” Some people really never learn from the past.
And the CBC is out in force today attacking POTUS to take away AA support. That is why i made sure to let the DCCC know I didn’t want any more e-mails from them.
Even the DCCC sent me an email today and wanted me to sign a virtual birthday card for President Clinton. (May I say happy birthday to him, here.) It hit me the wrong way. First of all, he’s no longer President and isn’t connected with Congress (yes, I know President Obama would have just courteously signed the damn card); second, was there some progressive undercurrent there?

I was just thinking abut what Cantor said upthread about cooperating with that committee. PBO told him that he was going to take it to the people, and that is exactly what he is doing. They may be getting some heat already.
Just read a story about the President’s visit to Peosta, Iowa. Here’s an annoying segment:

I understand the anti-abortion sentiments from a segment of our population, but, gee, I didn’t know President Obama was going to order up an abortion for each woman in the country. “Trust” seems like just another code word to me.

When PBO approaches a rope line, he really does make contact with everyone in his own unique way. And by that I mean he’s not just a politician, he is the people’s president.
OMG! It’s like you’re in my brain. That’s the exact thought I had when I watched him going down the rope line. He paused, shook hands, and talked to people. He wasn’t rushing down the line as though the people weren’t important. He treats everyone; bigwig or regular folk the same. In a respectful, warm, friendly, dignified, and compassionate manner. We sure lucked out having him as President.

I cut my teeth on classic movies, so much so that I basically memorized all of Turner Classic Movies’ catalogue of movies ( with the exception of silent films, just don’t have the passion for it), I love drama, musicals, comedies, you name it. Awww, P! we missed you. would it make you feel better to know that it wasn’t the same without you? I hope reading about it makes you feel just a tad better even if you didn’t actually see it.
My 10-year-old grandson and I stood outside, looked east, and he spotted a lone plane in the distance leaving Peoria at exactly the time Air Force One should have left! I followed the local reporter’s liveblog and when he said AF1 was wheels up, we went outside and 10-15 mins. later, there it was (appropriate timing for the distance).
Anyway, we think it was the President and my grandson and I gave each other the high-five! He can now tell his school friends he saw Air Force One.
We’re all so funny. AF1 is awesome in size and so magical. I know I listen for the helicopters flying overhead when he’s landed at the Presidio/Marina. And the car entourage is incredible as it races in the blink of an eye, his hand pressed against the window. We are so privileged to have him traveling to the very heart of us so often.
The interesting thing about this for me is that she seems embarrassed to admit that she’s against gay rights. Anyone who thinks there has not been a shift to the left over the last couple of years needs to reassess the situation. The thing the President is doing is moving the middle ground slowly but surely to the left. He’s doing it gently and steadily and he’s bringing most of the country with him. It is his willingness to talk and compromise that is making this possible. That’s my view anyway.

Funny! I too love the cows that have beautiful eyes. It seemed to me the Swiss cows’ eyes are the pretiiest. When I spent a week in Switzerland this summer going from West to East in a rented car with some of my adult kids we did see cows, but none of those beautiful Swiss cows with the soft brown eyes. I see them in the US a lot.

I can just hear him. I bet he’s saying, “Now that’ s a good looking cow.” Cow looked embarrassed. But here’s a thought that just popped into my imaginative head. A few days ago I wrote about my Indy daughter going to the In. State Fair and visiting the animal barns and seeing the cows getting shampooed and blown dry. They actually fuss over them like it was the Westminster Dog Show. And she said the cows ended up looking “So Cute!” And I said “cows are nice” which is what I always say.
Anyhoo, I have decided that President Obama or someone on his team loves The Obama Diary and got the idea about the cow visit here! Too fantastical? That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. And cows are nice. They just lie under the tree, minding their own business and gossip with their friends. (I grew up in Ia., had farmer grandparents, used to collect the eggs with my grandma and watched my grandpa milk the cows)
They are very docile…….and the new borns are hysterical with energy, They remind me of jumping beans. We returned a few weeks ago from my Mother’s rural South Dakota community, where some of my relatives still raise cattle, haul livestock and farm. Very peaceful and serene…and I love the lowing of the cattle out in the fields. My college boyfriends brother was a rancher in Wyoming, very different cattle operation, went to a branding event, oh lord that was rootin tootin raucus. No drugstore cowboys there.
Tweety’s favorite flavor, Perry (Texas Miracle, top layer of the cake) is imploding right before our eyes. He is getting instant exposure and scrutiny and it has not been a whole week yet. He and Bachmann are cut from the same cloth. They are still searching for the savior of the day. What is Mitt doing these days? Have not seen him since the “corporation are people” gaff. PBO is the real deal.
Mitt is stalking the President. He had the nerve to criticize PBO for going to Martha Vineyard’s to vacation. Well, guess what? Mitt is attending fund raisers there the same day. Hypocrite.

Mike Papantonio is substituting for Ed Schultz on his radio show today. I saw him on Ed’s tv show last night. When I saw that interview with 2 pundits on it I thought finally they have someone else to bash besides PBO. The conversation was about Rick Perry last night, but I know part of the show bashed PBO on unions and I scrolled past that part as I know Ed never gets that there can be other ways to look at things besides his way. Anotherwords you can still support the same things but react and strategize in different ways. Ed only sees things from his own point of view as it seems does Mike Papantonio.
Well apparently Ed’s mouth got him in trouble again…he had to apologize for his Rick Perry segment.

Candidates have to be officially declared by Nov 22nd, but anybody coming in now would probably to wait until September to enter to get a campaign staff together from virtual scratch. Now Iowa Caucus is going to be in early January, NH Primary in mid January, so anybody getting in in September will have four months before the Primaries start and things get real. And given the set-up the new moderate candidate would have to go all in in NH, and Romney has been there for months and spent millions there already, because they wouldn’t win Iowa or South Carolina, and Romney would win Nevada. So if they didn’t win NH, they’d be 0-4 in the first four primaries, and going all in in Florida isn’t a good strategy (see Giuliani in 2008), because it’s expensive as hell to advertise in and you get no free coverage since you’re getting blown out in first four primaries, so you’re seen as a non-entity.
So there is pretty much a firewall set-up against any new late comers. They’d need to be of name value to be able to compete with Romney in NH.

Holy cow a bike trip across the nation? I’ve ridden from one side my state to the other @ 250 miles, a four day trip….but seriously across country, you are amazing, and I am sure very fit. What’s to stop them from changing one thing and then re-passing it assuming it’s repealed? Is there some law where it would have to be substantially different or would the only thing stopping them from doing that potential political fall out?

This is my third attempt at bragging about our beautiful Jersey cow. ( I kept getting side tracked.) The beautiful animal shown here, looks like a young Jersey heifer and reminds me of our beloved Io, a Jersey cow we bought in the 70s. We named her after the mythical Io, one of Zeus’ lovers. She was three years old at the time we bought her and had the most beautiful big dark eyes, and a darkish mask. We milked her for years until she was diagnosed by our vet as having heart failure, so she spent the last many months of her life as a pet.
The vet told us she was the oldest cow he’d ever seen still alive. She was put down by him in her pasture and buried there. There are apple trees now growing around her. Many memories of her antics included the loss of a young ash tree which she leaned over the fence and ate completely and very quickly within 12 inches of the ground
We shed many tears to see her go. Two of our kids learned to milk her by hand.
This comment of mine is pretty apolitical, for which I apologize. It wasn’t TOO much out of place when I started it!
Oh JKS, never apologize. We’re a family here and we enjoy and welcome personal anecdotes be they humorous or pain filled.

This post has reminded me of many, many experiences I have had around cattle as well. In fact I am in a very reflective mood today taking stock and being reminded of lots of experiences that I have kept tucked deep in my memory.

Joan, I grew up with my grandfather who had tons of different animals and I tried to learn how to milk a cow but that was a challenge and never happed which is one of my regrets. It is great to hear that two of your kids did learn to milk a cow; that is some hard stuff to learn.

My 10-year-old grandson and I stood outside, looked east, and he spotted a lone plane in the distance leaving Peoria at exactly the time Air Force One should have left! I followed the local reporter’s liveblog and when he said AF1 was wheels up, we went outside and 10-15 mins. later, there it was (appropriate timing for the distance).
Anyway, we think it was the President and my grandson and I gave each other the high-five! He can now tell his school friends he saw Air Force One.

We’re all so funny. AF1 is awesome in size and so magical. I know I listen for the helicopters flying overhead when he’s landed at the Presidio/Marina. And the car entourage is incredible as it races in the blink of an eye, his hand pressed against the window. We are so privileged to have him traveling to the very heart of us so often.

The interesting thing about this for me is that she seems embarrassed to admit that she’s against gay rights. Anyone who thinks there has not been a shift to the left over the last couple of years needs to reassess the situation. The thing the President is doing is moving the middle ground slowly but surely to the left. He’s doing it gently and steadily and he’s bringing most of the country with him. It is his willingness to talk and compromise that is making this possible. That’s my view anyway.
Little miss Christine here is a bit of a ditz “I want to talk about what I want to talk about” She comes off very bratty. This girl is really the center of her own universe.
