Latest tweet from Peoria Journal Star reporter after noting they just left the fair where Obama chatted with dairy farmers and then worked a rope line at the entrance: “Very appreciative crowd at fair, both among dems and gop. Mostly ppl seem to want pols to listen to ordinary voters more.”
Now he’s noting that Obama seems to really be enjoying the visit, the human contact. Lots of jokes and grins, he said.
I’m super stoked for the townhalls today. The residents of Cannon Falls, MN and Decorah, IA really impressed me with their calm and intelligent questions that weren’t fed by the media misrepresentation of President Obama. Crossing my fingers that today is just as great.

Lieberman never disappoint me. I expect nothing from him and I get nothing from him. As for Romney, seem to me he better be going after the G.W.Bush wanna be, and Sarah Palin wanna be. As the President said to Wolf, when the T-Party Republicans choose their nominee, he will be ready for them.
And didn’t the fake Romney also once plan a visit to Hawaii, when the President and his family were going to be there?
Stalker? Or just wants to go where the cameras are?
I see Jonathan Alter has breaking news that Chris Christie is conducting focus groups in preparation for jumping into the presidential race. Perry has been a bomb, and they’re still scrambling. Pretty soon every Repub in the country will be in the race. No one’s working out, no one measures up.
Christie will bomb too..he is a bully of the highest order.
I saw Jonathan’s tweet on twitter. Another journalist, I forget his name, just tweeted too, that according to his sources Christie is conducting focus groups in preparation for jumping into the race. Hmmmm….. me thinks the party is getting very desperate.
Christie knows it’s now or never for him because the myth-making will not stand up all the way until 2016. He’d likely lose re-election in 2014 if he ran for it. He is more formidable since he doesn’t seem to be a teabagger, and his defense of his Muslim appointee to the bench drew raves even from MSNBC.
And I need to point out that this is AFTER Christie said that you’d have to get him to commit suicide before he’d run against PBO.
I don’t think he would win his own state!!!
He wouldn’t, but he’ll play much stronger in the midwest, Pa and in Virginia.
Yeah’ I’d love to see his record of GUTTING jobs in his own state plays well to the jobless in the midwest, PA, and Virginia.
His rhetoric will probably be like Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry’s: “Get Obama out of office,” with no plans being discussed, just that we have to get him out of office. He’s all bark and no bite, and his loose lips will sink him just as fast as Michele Bachmann’s and Rick Perry’s.
But that’s easy to backtrack on “I said this before I saw President Obama ruining the country and saw the sad sack GOP field and realized I needed to stand up”.
I also need to point out his asshole response to the one constituent of his that pointed out his hypocrisy on public education: that Christie gutted public education, all while sending his kids to private school, and Christie was like “None of your damned business.”
Too many people in his state already know how much of an asshole he is, and if he does jump into the Presidential race, so will so many folks nationwide. He’s not ready for prime-time, but anything to fill his wallets and inflate his ego I guess.
Well, Mr. Christie’s camp is denying the rumor. From TPM: New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s (R) staff hit back on a report that the governor is considering a bid for the White House, telling the Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin it is “absolutely not true.”
LMAO!!! This is what you call the comedy of HORRORS. The Teathugs are making themselves look more ridiculous by the hour. I guess we will see our TeaGov here in Ohio, Kasich, jumping into the 3 ring circus before too long. OMG I can’t believe this. HILARIOUS. They hate PBO so much, but yet can’t find anyone to gain any traction with the public. GLORIOUS!! This news is enough to get me off to work. See ya on one of my breaks!! LOL
WHAT?? You got to be kidding me

After 10 Years As Governor, Rick Perry Doesn’t Know How Texas Borders Are Patrolled

They have arrived at the town hall. Fair photos:
I just find this post from Steve Benen astonishing. This takes the notion of being “clueless” to a whole new level. This needs to get major coverage far and wide. It’s just unbelievable. The late night comedians will have a field day with this news. And the gaffes just keep coming.
PERRY NEVER NOTICED THE DRONES
Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry presumably knows a little something about immigration policy. After all, he’s the three-term governor of Texas, easily the nation’s largest border state, and Perry realizes how important the issue is to far-right activists who dominate in his party.
With this in mind, it seemed noteworthy that Perry sketched out an idea this week, touting the use of Predator drones along the U.S.-Mexico border. The governor stressed that these unarmed drones could provide “real-time information to help our law-enforcement,” and if federal officials would commit to the idea, “we will be able to drive the drug cartels away from our border.”
This sounds pretty reasonable, right? As it turns out, the Obama administration agrees — as Nathan Pippenger explained, the idea Perry recommends was already put in place years ago.
It’s not like Perry can claim he’s new to the job and didn’t realize these efforts were underway — drones have been used along Texas’ border for six years, utilized by the Bush and Obama administrations, and Perry has been governor the entire time.
In other words, he’s touting an idea that was implemented years ago, which he should have known was implemented years ago, since it’s occurring in Perry’s own state.
I’ve noticed, that every Repub that has declared that the media fawned over has FLOPPED.
First it was Michele Bachmann, then her gay husband ran his mouth, and now we’ve got her singing Happy Birthday to Elvis on the day he died, on top of getting John Wayne and John Wayne Gacy mixed up.
Then it was Jon Huntsman, PBO’s former ambassador to China. He can’t get ANY traction because he’s flip flopped on his moderate views and embraced far right Teapug views to get Teapug support, all to no avail.
Then it was Rick Perry, who’s now making public gaffes about the federal government that even have Rove and Co pissed off and angry.
Now Chris Christie might be jumping in, despite him saying he’d never run unless you’d get him to commit suicide first.
When is Quitter from Wasilla going to jump in? Heck might as well draft Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck to run, that is how PATHETIC the Republican field is, none of them have a chance in hell of defeating PBO.
Of course, we might hearken back, also, to the days of Donald Trump. Thank God he’s gone (and the others).
Interesting background at the town hall—–seed crates? egg crates? Like the rustic, rural look of it, whatever it is.
I was thinking the same thing. I like the back drop today although I can’t quite figure out what it is. I thought it was haystacks at first. Anyway, I don’t think they can improve on that beautiful red barn. That was spectacular imagery.
Today I would like to get in some props for PBO’s staff. I can’t imagine the hard work that went into putting this trip together. It’s just amazing what they are doing. PBO has surrounded himself with dedicated and brilliants public servants. We are so lucky to have them.
I think they’re just wooden pallets like you’d find in a warehouse.
Yep. Stacks of pallets.
I went crazy when I saw those crates…I love them. I may call the company and see if they are willing to sell a few so I can incorporate them into my eclectic decor.
What is the background at the town hall?
Here, I don’t know if it’s true: Michael Eric Dyson is in talks with MSNBC execs for his own talk show. This move could mean Rev. Al Sharpton will not win a primetime show on the network! The interest in Dyson came after he hosted ‘The Ed Schultz Show’ and it turned out to be a ratings winner, beating out shows in the same time slots on Fox and CNN!
I like Michael, but lawd he puts a lot of words into a sentence. I don’t know how long I would be able to listen to his run-on paragraphs. He’s a smart cookie, though, and solid on the issues. Bless his heart.
I like him as well but I wish it was Rev. Al., He’s so entertaining.
Oh I sincerely hope they don’t throw Rev Al under the bus. He’s phenomenal. Dyson is ok.. but he’s too longwinded with run on sentences and no periods. Uggh.
I am with you pj. Dyson would really have to tone it down a bit for me to be able to listen to him for any length of time. Listening to him now can be exhausting. It takes forever to get his point across. He needs to be more succinct.
He really does. I forgot to mention in my above comment, but Chris Hayes of the Nation is now going to get a weekend show on MSNBC. Most likely the weekend show Cenk Ugyur rejected. Chris has been feeling in for LOD and I know he’s a progressive, and he’s ok abd usually on point, but I sooo hope he quits his 80% Obama whining and puts the focus on the intrasigent GOP and teaparty caucus.
Which is why Dyson may get a slot over Sharpton. Listen to him carefully, he sends subliminal messages of discontent with PBO. He has the vocabulary to do so, using speed and too many words, hoping most folk can’t keep up. I keep up. I’ve checked him. Rev Al is clearly too pro-Obama for msm, but Dyson would satisfy that call for an AA face on the front just in time for the election.
“he sends subliminal messages of discontent with PBO.” Those messages are not so subliminal either which is exactly why msnbc wants to give him a show. I can’t STAND him.
Not buying it. Rev. Al is way better.
Already done TV News’ Next Reverend Al — The Daily Beast
Michael Dyson puts entirely too many words in one sentence. I think I have a few taps of sense, but there are times when I just can’t listen to him. He talks too fast and uses too many words to make a point.
Completely agree. He’s has great volumes of information to share and good insight but honestly sometimes it’s frustrating to hear someone talk that much. At some point, and it’s probably not true or fair, but it eventually will get to the point that it seems like that person just likes to hear themselves talk more than anything else.
I personally hope that Ezra Klein gets to host more. He’s been filling in for Martin Bashir and he’s really growing into it. At first he was a tiny bit uncomfortable but he’s really loosened up and his personality is showing through. He’s sharp as a whip, is very earnest and not snarky. He is really able to take the economic issues and distill them in a way that makes it understandable. Hope he continues in some way.
Why am I not seeing the town hall background? I’ve gone to the WH live stream and it just says beginning shortly!
CSPAN has it live. They’re jamming to cool music while waiting for the townhall to get underway.
Anybody on twitter know why some replies to your tweets show up on your timeline and others don’t?
Do you follow the people who are not showing up in your time line?
No, is that it?
Yeah. If you don’t follow them, then their replies to your tweets or your @ mentions won’t show up in your timeline. You’ll have to check your @ mentions box. That’s what I do.
OK, now someone I don’t follow has a reply in my timeline. Weird.
Was it retweeted by somebody you do follow?
No. I do check the @ mentions but my twitter feed has been acting sort of weird lately. I wonder if they are working out issues from the crossover from old to new…..
Now when was the last time we saw a Teapug crowd as fired up as this crowd that PBO has?
He’s in GREAT form!! And he has a PIE coming!!
I saw that. I laughed when he called them the Waffles family, instead of the Whiffle family. Hahaha. Someone’s hungry. Shoot! Made me hungry too.
I love the crowd. they are very vocal and involved.
This President is too intelligent for the gotcha media, and I will call them a gotcha media because they continue to spread the lies about PBO all while fawning over complete IDIOTS like Rick Perry and Chris Christie.
It’s sad that they too want the country to suffer so that PBO gets kicked out, a Republican wins, and they get the headlines they crave. Like PBO keeps on saying, there is something wrong with our politics, the gotcha media focuses too much on political kabuki and drama for $$$$$$$$$$$.
It’s after 1pm and PBO hasn’t eaten any lunch yet! I hope after this he goes to Lisa’s restaurant he eats a heck of a lot more than pie and a cinnamon bun. Hope he eats some fried chicken and mashed potatoes and macaroni.
PBO once again calls out the Tea Party Downgrade and how the Teapugs turned down the grand bargain that would have prevented said downgrade (albeit without mentioning the Teapugs).
I’m glad PBO corrected that guys assumptions about supposed regulations that will block farmers. When people hear about stuff like that, it’s more prudent to go to the government website, email or call them and get a reliable answer. Because when you “assume”; you make an “ass” out of “u” and “me.”
Not to disrupt the excellent town hall, but found this story on TPM about a stupid Staff Sergeant in the Air Force who is throwing his career over the birther nonsense:
Pinch, poke, I owe you a Coke!
Ugh, I hope they put this guy in Leavenworth for a good, long time.
Airman Goes AWOL In Germany Because Internet Says Obama’s Birth Certificate Is Fake (VIDEO).
Because, if it’s on the Internet, it MUST be true…
I read some of the comments on the video, and there are folks APPLAUDING this asshole.
Of course, if a Soldier/Sailor/Marine/Airman had done this under President Bush, they’d be branded a traitor and be accused of emboldening Al-Qaeda.
If this asshole is more concerned about partisan politics as opposed to doing his JOB and protecting the country he enlisted to serve, then he needs to be dishonorably discharged. Court martial his ass, throw him into the brig to do some hard time, dishonorably discharge him, and he can get a job on Fox News as an analyst. He’ll join the ranks of LtCol Lankin and General Stanley McChrystal as shamed soldiers who fucked with the wrong President.
Racism is a mental illness and a good portion of this country are insane!
What a lame excuse. Why is a guy that dumb in the Airforce to begin with?
I guess the Air Force Academy is home to a lot of fundamentalist proselytizing. Maybe he isn’t dumb, bit rather extremely narrow minded.
Just seems like a big frickin excuse to abandon his commitment and his responsibilities.
Loving the “view” of our fine President.
Isn’t he wonderful? I am totally captivated listening to him answer questions.
One thing I like about wiki is that – whether the content is fully accurate or not, it’s food for thought. Here’s a portion of what they have on Gov. Christie. Looks as though Karl Rove might swing over to him. Then he could be Christie’s Cranium.
On December 7, 2001, Christie was nominated to be the U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey. He was unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate on December 20, 2001, and sworn into office on January 17, 2002. Controversy surrounded his appointment; some members of the New Jersey Bar professed disappointment at Christie’s lack of criminal law experience and his history as a top fundraiser for George W. Bush’s 2000 presidential campaign … The extent of the role played by Bush’s political adviser, Karl Rove, also became an issue after Christie’s law partner, William Palatucci, a Republican political consultant and Bush supporter, boasted that he had selected a United States attorney by forwarding Christie’s résumé to Rove …
His was the US Attorney when Murdoch’s NewsAmerica hacked into the New Jersey Floorgraphics company 15 times and he ignored their requests for an investigation.
In April 2009, Christie came under fire from the ACLU for authorizing warrantless cellphone tracking of people in 79 instances. Christie has stressed that the practice was legal and court approved.
I love how President Obama said he took only one oath. The Oath of Office. That oath reminds him that he is accountable to the American people and he wakes up everyday thinking of ways to better their lives. He doesn’t understand how members of congress sign pledges to special interest groups, lobbyists, and activists; which leaves them unable to the job of the people which they were elected for. Right on PBO. Right on!
ut, I was out of my seat with both fists in the air when he said that. It was awesome. President Obama making it plain that he takes ONE OATH and that is to the American people is just wonderful. I hope we will be hearing this again.
One of the things that infuriates me about the Republican Party is that they run for office, take the oath of allegiance to the constitution and the American people and then proceed to take multiples pledges from special interest groups like Grover Norquist. I mean who elected Grover Norquist. They essentially surrender judgment to other people outside of the government. I think this basically nullifies the oath of office. A total violation of the oath.
I am glad that issue was raised. That is what I would ask the President myself. These pledges by primarily Republicans (Ben Nelson-D Nebraska, and Ben Chandler-D Kentucky are I believe the only exceptions) really anger me. I don’t see how they aren’t a violation of their sworn oath of office.
yes yes yes!
So happy that he is pushing the Country First theme considering the Teahaddists have pledged Allegiance to Grover Norquist instead of the United States Constitution and they are ALL on the record and all over youtube
Here are a couple of good comments from President Obama today. Not verbatim, paraphrasing ……..
1) We shouldn’t have to choose between getting our fiscal house in order and jobs & growth.
2) My pledge is to the American people.
3) The only thing holding us back is our politics.
4) We can’t say we would rather see our opponent lose than see our country win.
5) We need to take pride in rebuilding America.
6) Don’t bet against America.
7) We need to focus on the common good.
8) I need for you to get involved. Let your representatives know we need to work together to get things done for the good of the country.
VIDEO: GOP Super Committee Member Fred Upton’s Constituents Angrily Ask, ‘Where Are The Jobs!?’
yes the American people are finally waking up to the reality of the Teahaddists
This is the reason why alot of those T-Republicans aren’t having town halls. They know that the people are tired of the T-Republicans looking out for the rich. The people don’t want them to get rid of Medicare and Social Security. They know the people want the rich to sacrifice too. And they don’t want to hear anything about what the people want. They don’t care.
More of this please.
And yet his staff attempts to quiet their voices….where is Mr. Upton’s respect for those that are resonsible for electing and paying him?
Republicans are experts in the art of way one communication…..they talk and expect us to listen…..Bull!
Notice how the MSM does NOT cover this. Sad and pathetic they’ve become.
Besty, but they chase around after that idiot from Alaska, like a dog chasing a cat.
Yes, they don’t cover this type of stuff but boy they were on top of every single tea bagger outburst at every single town hall in the country during the Health Care struggle.
PBO was awesome! I loved his response to the first question. After PBO answered it, the questioner said something like: “thank you sir” and PBO said “thanks, I appreciate you” —- he’s so cute and charming!
One more town hall then he is heading back home Michelle, Malia and Sasha. And Bo.
I totally agree (he’s so cute and charming!)
Uh oh…..the crowd looks like it might be getting a little restless having waited so long. He’s not usually this late, wonder what’s going on?
Love the comment he made about why he didn’t call Congress back to work during the recess and that he wants them in their Districts listening to people. HA! I just called my Republican Congressman (a Republican-WA) and he has not had one town hall yet and they couldn’t tell me that he would be having one before he goes back. They gave me some song and dance about how they had to switch his schedule around because he had to go back and forth to DC. I asked why would he have to do that when Congress is in recess specifically so they can listen to their constituents. He then switched to some nonsense about how the debt ceiling negotiations took so much time…..blah, blah, blah…….I just finished with telling him that was ridiculous because the August recess is a planned recess it wasn’t just sprung on them and that it was incredibly disappointing that he is taking a whole month off without listening to any of his constituents!
Good god he is just so smart.
