President Obama shares a golf cart with Eric Whitaker at the Mink Meadows Golf Club in Vineyard Haven, Aug. 24
President Obama with Eric Whitaker, left, and Sam Kass, right
I watched Hardball at 5, not watching the repeat.
I don’t want to see the ugly face of Ron Christie, the RW nutjob, who said the Arab spring is a disaster.
Yes living under the rule of a tyrant, a dictator is so much better.
Great to see the President smiling!! I love it
I can’t stand Ron Christie I mute and forward to skip his garbage talk.
I should have done that,. He’s infuriating
I saw him and deleted the entire recording. Yuck.
No Mr. Christie, the Iraq war was a disaster. I can not stand that guy either.
Yeah, what’s with him??? he’s so contrary, I just wonder what makes him tick??? Definitely not one of my favorite people :-(
Cheney tainted him….yuck! I used to leave the room if he came on….running!.
I absolutely detest him. The TV goes OFF when he comes ON. What a loon.
I mute the teevee when the RW lips are moving, I know they’re lying and there’s nothing they’re saying I need to hear.
Pick a scab on an elephants ass an the fluid that oozes out is Christie.
He is a nasty man. Just think he worked for Lon Chaney! Oh wait, that Chaney was a movie monster. This Dick is a real monster. Anyone who could defend that ass is a worm.
of course its a disaster! who will the next Repub Pres invade?
Is MSNBC trying to give Ronald Regan’s son a show? If there are I hope it doesn’t happen because he is the same as the PL. MSNBC have enough of Obama should do this do that crowd already on there.
Matthews must be on vacation,.
If Matthews is on vacation, I say, don’t hurry back Chris. Take a year or two off.
Ron Reagan is definitely one of the PL. I use to listen to his radio show on Air America before they folded. I remember when he made this big announcement on his show that he was voting for PBO. After PBO was elected, the bashing started.
Plus he lied about getting UN approval for Iraq….Bush never got that and the UN deemed his action illegal
If you were a Tweety & went on vacation as your gig aired @ any lMSM, ummm, who would you rather have filling in for you so when you came back you’d have your old gig? Turf-Protect!
Is that MY Sam Kass in the third Pic???? Holding by Breath for an answer.
LOL! Holding bine too.
Back off hopefruit2. I will never share MY Sammy with anyone. No way no how. AGAIN BACK OFF GIRLLLLL. Grinding my teeth in anger.
I thought PBO was yours. Also, the guy with the blue cap (in the first pic) said that he only has eyes for Me4obama. So you have two, what are you worried about? :) :) :)
Hey you all let’s not get greedy.
Hiya Me4O, it said “unidentified man” in the caption here:
Will check for new ones!
Chip, it looks like Marty Nesbits.
nope, that’s Sam Kass. Marty has hair….
Chips, Thanks for sharing the piece. I am grateful for people like Fareed, who understand other cultures.
Yes, that is Sam Kass. One of the descriptions on anaother picture says:
“President Barack Obama, right, chats with Eric Whitaker, left, and Sam Kass, center, while playing golf at Mink Meadows Golf Club, in Vineyard Haven, Mass. , on the island of Martha’s Vineyard Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011.”
Thanks COS, oh Sam I have missed you. Take good care of the First Family and CALL ME WHEN YOU GET BACK. MY NUMBER is 1800ME4SAMK.
Yall can have Sammy. That just means less ladies I have to fight off for PBO. :D
LOL….they have nothing on PBO. Nothing !
Update: Yes it is!!!!
Thanks Chips, though I would kindly prefer if the description read President Obama, Eric Whitaker and Me4obama’s Sam Kass. I don’t trust some Ladies in our TOD Family and I don’t compromise when it comes to my Sammy.

You’re a crazy girl!
:D :D :D…when you say you don’t trust some La…..LISA, that girl likes to hog em all! ;)
Nice swing Mr. President. Or nice calculation before the execution of a swing Mr. President. (like I even know diddly squat about golf). ;)
ps: What’s in Marvin Nicholson’s mouth?
A lollipop? :)
Our President loves golf. I can’t stand it, but if he likes it he likes it. No harm.
UT, Nicholson probably has the great WH gum in his mouth. You know this WH can walk and chew gum at the same time. In this case it is play golf, chew gum, take care of America and the world, and look FINE all at the same time. Enjoy your vacaation, Mr. President.
I noticed that as well, and thought don’t you be smoking around our President, Maybe it’s a pen…not a golfer, imagine there is some record kept as they progress.
Yes—-the little stubby golf pencils which come with the scorecard.
There you go! Mystery probably solved. He was a former smoker and gave it up, serving as inspiration to PBO to “really” give up smoking – since he used to “bum” cigarettes from him. :)
Oh Thank you…I love seeing PBO in his cargo shorts….as HZ says work ’em. Hope he has a good game…I am sure he enjoys his company.
You know another thing I love about Obama? It’s something I admire in him, and I can’t say the same about myself. But—-he wears the same clothes over and over, he could care less about the outside, even tho he always looks great. It’s his inside that is so enviable. He’s got his priorities in the right order for sure. He has the same couple of golf outfits that he’s worn through the last couple of years. Chips put up a golf photo the other day from last year, and he had the same clothes on that day in the takeout place in MV. He’s worn that same blue checked casual shirt, or maybe he has duplicates, his presidential casual, since the Iowa caucuses. I just teased my husband and said, “Wanna see some cute golf pics of Obama today?” And he said, and we’ve never talked about this, “Someone needs to get him another golf hat. He wears the same one every time.” He’s jealous because he thinks I’d rather look at Obama golfing than photos of him golfing, Of course not!!! :) And I remember Michelle noting the same thing in one of the early books, that if he had a pair of khakis and a black polo style shirt, he was always good to go, could care less about any fancy duds. I love this man. He’s just so genuine and good to the bone, no pretenses.
dotster…I’ve noticed that as well. He has such natural elan about him, he could wear anything and make it look good.
I am a reformed clothes horse…have to say my credit cards are happier for it. I just stick to the basics….no fashion statement coming from my direction. As I get older, I am happier with less.
well said dotster.. and he’s just dang pretty to look at too ;) so casual & elegant and normal all at the same time.
Mrs. Obama too. The only reason the girls don’t is because they’re still growing. The kind of parents the Obamas are, I can hear them saying, “you can still wear that”.
I remember they added a bow or something to one of Malia’s dresses that lil Sasha had on – loved that.
I think he cherishes the comfort broken-in clothes can give, like an old pair of slippers. Just shows how down-to-earth he really is. What a great man for a single woman to aspire to. Sigh !
Yes, but when he DOES get dressed up, 8) WOOOOOO HOOOO!!!! 8)
He is a fashion designer’s dream model!! Tall. Slim, but not skinny. Great facial features. Nice shaped head. Elegant, but masculine at the same time. He looks great in pretty much anything he wears.
Oh yes…he is FINE!
Look up the word in Websters….PBO’s picture is right there: FINE, adj, as in Mr. President, Barack Hussein Obama FINE.
Have you noticed that the tall, skinny, big eared guy with the funny name we saw on the campaign trail has filled out to be a great size and his ears are not noticably Dumbo-like? Looks are in the eyes of the beholder. We all love him and see him as perfect. His greyer hair just gives him a wiser more distinguished look. Men are lucky that way.
Is he home yet? :(
he’ll be home on Sunday.
I thought he was supposed to be back on saturday, because he’s speaking at the unveiling of the MLK Jr. memorial on sunday.
They’re scheduled to leave Sat. I’m wondering if they will have to leave early because of Irene. I have a daughter visiting her grandmother in Fl. and is supposed to fly to Boston on Sun. and is already thinking her flight may be cancelled.
Oh no! The President is playing golf again right after the earthquake. How dare he? What kind of President is he? You know the right wing nuts are saying such B.S. as that. But I say enjoy the rest of your vacation Mr. President.
I think it is Saturday the family suppose to be back to D.C. They will have to keep up with the weather because of hurricane Irene.
I pray the weather is fine, because I am looking forward to the MLK Jr. Memorial, and hearing the President speak. Malia and Sasha will be going to school when?
Why is it that whenever it’s pointed out that Hispanics overwhelming support Obama, that some liberals, not just Republican/Conservative always say something like, “well if Rubio is on the ticket, that support will evaporate”. I can undestand an argument about Hispanics not voting in larger numbers for Dems because of some notion that not enough has been done in terms of immigration reform by any party, but the idea that Hispanics on bloc will vote GOP because a Hispanic in on the ticket really don’t care or don’t really understand that it’s a little bit more uncertain than that.
I have a friend who is Mexican American, and another friend who is Puerto Rican, and I asked them both would it matter to them if having an “Hispanic nominee say a Cuban on a ticket” would it make them more likely to vote for that ticket. They both said no.
It think that so many people like to group “Hispanics” together as one “nationality” like what is done with African Americans, but what doesn’t seem to be taken into account, is that a large number of African Americans, such as myself, can trace their family history in America back to slavery. For many AA, beyond genealogy studies (which can be damn expensive), the vast majority of us ONLY know of America as our “nationality” (this of course excludes people born of African immigrants, who by nature of being born to an immigrants can trace their history beyond America’s shores). IMHO, this is why AA voters while not a monolith, tend to voter in similar patterns to one another because we have “shared experiences” with other AA. Hispanics are not as easy to group together as some might think.
The Hispanic population in America is comprised of many different countries/nationalities. Do not make the mistake of calling someone who is Dominican a Mexican, or calling someone from Puerto Rico a Cuban, for every South American country there is, there is just as likely an Hispanic demographic that is represented, so Hispanic to me is just a catch all used by people who either don’t care or wants to ignore the real nuances that are within the Hispanic community.
All that is to say, that just because there is a “Cuban” on the GOP ticket, doesn’t mean that a Dominican or a Puerto Rican or Costa Rican voter will vote for them.
I see people are talking up Rubio and trying to claim that he will increase the Hispanic numbers for GOP, but please, Rubio refuses to even discuss immigration. As VP, he will be almost assured to receive a question about immigration in any debate. The Dem of cours will be on the “right” side of the debate in the eyes of many Hispanics.
Rubio is not gonna be able to divert from the GOP line on immigration. And if GOP voters who are still majority white think the Rubio already being non-white himself is also “soft” on immigration, I don’t see them being enthusiastic voting for Rubio, so all the GOP will have to rely on in FLA are those Hispanics who may vote for Rubio, but wouldn’t that also take for granted that non-Cuban born Hispanics in FLA would vote for Rubio regardless of his immigration paralleling the GOP talking points?
If immigration is their “issue”, then why would they vote for someone for some type of ethnic solidarity, particularly since they may not even be Cuban-born and probably don’t even consider themselves ethnically similar.
I’ve had explained to me that there is a big divide between Cubans and other Hispanics/Latinos. There is a political divide, Cubans have been historically much more conservative than the other populations, and there is some natural resentment there that Cubans have gotten a free pass into this country when others have not. And Rubio is very rt. wing conservative, which is at odds with even a sizable number of young Cubans in Miami and elsewhere, who don’t have that anti-Castro history etc. But this is not to say that the Repubs are not just drooling to get him on the ticket, as VP, thinking it will be a huge advantage. Because they are.
Older cubans will go for Rubio…they got here on a free ride..via us the tax payers….and now don’t want anyone to have any help at all. It seems as though…what is good for them….it’s okay…if it is anyone else…..too bad,
Just like putting Palin on the ticket was supposed to appeal to all the female Hillary supporters/voters.
I have a 60-something friend from a long-time military family who’s very conservative, and she respected McCain, but the minute she saw Palin on the R ballot in ’08, she voted for President Obama. Plus her grandkids were for him, so that helped!
Mr. President Barack Obama will win in 2012 and that is that! Perry runs and hispanos (we, Hispanics do not capitalize “hispanos”) will turn TX blue!!!
I don’t have to tell you that I am Hispanic, look at my name, and I do not speak for all of the Hispanic community as Maria Celeste did on CNN back in 2008; (she is from Telemudo); she said something like this: We Hispanics will never vote for a “black man” because in our culture we treat you depending how light/dark your skin color is. The BITCH had to have received my email but had nothing to say back.
President Obama has my vote, my child’s vote, my daughter’s husband vote, my brother’s vote, my sister-in-law’s vote and shit load of other votes from these Latinos racists’ people.
I forgot to include my husband (he snores and that is why.) He has been an “Obamamotherfucker” as someone said (She is done so no need for names).
Some 67% of latinos voted for our president!
Who’s winning in TX, According to the polls, President Obama!
I do not watch polls.
Well that was pretty ignorant of her.
Exactly. Just like all the nonsense about AA’s only voting for the PBO (then candidate BO) because he was black. AA’s have been voting for Dems 90% of the time and why wouldn’t they vote 90% or more this time? If they put Colin Powell on the Repub ticket, I still would not vote for him.
Guess what? I voted for PBO because he is black. He also is intelligent, honest, moral, ethical. But yes, he is black. Anyone have a problem with that, we can talk.
I like Colin Powell, but he could never tempt me to vote for the GOP. GOP policies are not good for America.
I find it really hard to believe that Colin Powell would ever consider sharing the Republican ticket with one of this year’s Teapublican candidates. He is way too smart for them.
Colin Powell backed PBO in 2008. I doubt he would touch any of the current crop of Repugnants with a barge pole.
They love lumping us into groups, and assigning group think. Flies in the face of American’s as rugged individualist meme!
This is one hottie of a President in cargo shorts, and mean Ray bans
Yes, Yes, Yes, Sue. If he will not show his behind(and we know that is not his core), he certainly can say,”Look at my fine legs and now watch me work this.” Love those shorts and legs, Mr. President. You are just too fine, Mr. President. Do your thing, Mr. President.HZ
Can’t fool me – I see the masthead changes again.
Me too StR. I noticed and this time I didn’t freak and delete my cookies/history! LOL!!!
You people are spookily observant, you always spot when I’m playing!
Yes. yes we are :D
I’m too busy looking at that long drink of cool water that is our President. Looks good Chipsticks….I do like that we have his smiling face in the upper right hand corner….Yes sir we did it!
Whoa, I like this one better Chips. I am partial to the red back. The highlight is nice and I like the font.
Oh snap! The masthead changed again. I like it Chips. I especially like the name Obama rising from the background and reaching out to the user.
I like the subtle new look as well. It’s like a combination of a little bid of the old with a little bit of the new. Please keep! :)
Everytime I see Dave Wiegel giving his opinion on the tea party, it almost seem as if he defends their actions. I just saw him doing the same about stuff Rick Perry has written in his book. on Last Word. What gives?
Google him. He is a registered Republican. He is a Libertarian. He did vote for the President but loves Ron Paul.
I didn’t know he was a republican, no wonder I don’t trust anyone on MSNBC expect MY Rev AL. By the way Mark Knoller has Blocked me because when i read his tweet that he was writing a book & I tweeted him today asking him if Michelle Bachman will edit his book for fact checking. He must be pissed off at all the push back he has been receiving.
I think I sent him 15 tweets in 2 days.
So far Joan Walsh and Peggy Noonan blocked me. Not sure about Knoller, I didn’t check.
RW hacks and PL can’t take being called out on their lies.
How do you know if someone has blocked you on Twitter?
I had a message after maybe 4 – 5 tweets , not so nice I can admit but justifiable,
For Joan Walsh it was when she called the President supporters, Obamalovers.
And the witch Noonan was after one of her disgusting hit piece.
Something about not being authorized about something, or protected tweets. I can’t recall exactly but I couldn’t send another message.
I blocked Joan Walsh. Her tweets were just foul. Who needs that? Wouldn’t follow Noonan on a bet. I don’t see knoller tweets anymore, so I’m guessing I’m blocked, but don’t really care.
I haven’t seen any Ben Knoller tweets since he took the heat yesterday. I think he is laying low.
That explains everything. You nailed it.
Today on twitter, he had this silly tweet that said “think Obama is in trouble now, wait until Larry Johnson releases the Whitey Tape.
I replied to him. He responded:
@lawalazu Amusing myself and possibly others
Aug 24, 10:38 AM via TweetDeck
In reply to…
@daveweigel I am trying to understand this. What is the point of reintroducing this silliness into the ether again? Did I miss something?
Aug 24, 10:38 AM via web
My response to his reply to me, I don’t know how to find it. But I told him that frankly it was not amusing at all. That PBO had endured enough lies.
Then Ben at Plolitico retweeted Weigel’s first tweet.
I replied to Ben telling that he and Weigel thought thery were being slick by reintroducing distasteful lies about PBO on the Internet. I told him that there was nothing funny about it.
These guys subtely bring stuff like this out so that others can pick it up. It was very annoying to me to see him bring that up with the link to the stupid story from 2008.
Africa, I saw a job opening for social work in my facility if you don’t mind relocating to
VA. Contact me ASAP with your email address so I can forward the information.
He tries so desperately to make them seem credible. Maybe he is a bigot, and trying to pretend he isn’t. I can’t stomach him, and not to be shallow but he has a face for radio.
…Maybe he’s a bigot…
No ‘maybe’s Sue…
They are bigots…
Haha a retweet from someone on my list.
KarlRove Karl Rove
Will be discussing the #economy and President Obama’s Martha’s Vineyard vacation On the Record with @gretawire tonight. Tune in 10PM!
They won’t get over it, 10 days vacation, oh the horror,.
Ms. Chips, saw that you retained the original banner. It looks good, though I did like the other one too.
ps- PBO looks spectacular! Yummieeeeee!!! Long, lean and one good looking fighting machine!!! :) :)
Proof yet again that this President works on his vacation:
The arrogance. Was on the phone in one room, walked into the other – where MSNBC was still on the TV from Rev. Al.
Accidentally saw Rachel Maddow and the last few minutes of her show. She was getting ready to introduce an advisor to Palin, looked at the camera, and said to her viewing audience (paraphrased), “No matter what you think of Palin, [the guest] is a very nice person. So get off my back!”
Oh, don’t worry, Ms. Arrogance. I got off your back a long time ago. Won’t watch you in the future, either. Have you forgotten your audience pays your salary? Will you ever GET OFF PRESIDENT OBAMA’s BACK???
They have to say stuff like that or no one from the quitter’s campaign will come on their show if she decides to run. It’s pandering of the tabloid variety.
So is your interview about Palin, or about your very nice guest? And are you going to ask her some direct questions and insist on real answers, or are you going to give her the Meghan McCain roll over interview?
My problem with all the media with respect to Palin…no one will pull the curtain back. I don’t know if Murdoch/Ailes are protecting their (bad) investment and wield that much influence and power, or the Domionist movement, Franklin Graham, Bud Paxson…I don’t know who
but Palin has been both shielded and inflated from day one. The charade continues, and no will scratch the surface.
It is clear to me I am still nursing my grudge with Maddow….essentially I no longer trust that she will be fair in her criticisms with regards to PBO, nor do I trust that she will always be honest with respect to him. She attacked him without foundation and she lied in doing so, she violated the trust I had developed in her. Shouldn’t take it personal….but when it comes to lying I always do.
President Obama is a really nice guy, funny how double standards seem to be forever reserved for him.
Agree, Sue. And, I had hoped that the witch’s name would’ve been buried by now. Also, with Madcow carrying on the way she is, I have to certify her too. She really has lost it, having M. Steele on repeatedly, as if he ever has anything of sanity to offer. Cable TV is a real joke. I must venture to ask, how can so many here stand watching that stuff. We get insulted, we slink back, next thing you know, we’re right back to watching. I have been guilty of this on a few occasions, but mostly, I don’t turn on my TV. We have to face the fact that President Obama has major enemies in this country, more than any other president before him, and that includes Bush. Lurkers would argue that they are justified in their hatred and mocking us who believed, but we all know it is absurd. He would not be facing all of this affront if he were white, pure and simple. And no, Clinton did not catch it like PBO is catching it. Atleast Clinton had the loyalty of his party constituents. It is definitely something in the water, folks.
I stopped watching Rachel and Jon Stewart for the same reason, I will forgive GW Bush before I forgive Rachel since Bush hasn’t attacked PBO since he left office and Rachel is the reason we have Dan Choi. IMHO.
Who cares if someone is nice? Anyone who would give Palin or her associates a platform at this stage of the game is an idiot.
Was at a family gathering over the weekend and had the usual percentage of wingnuts there. So weird how their talking points, which have been carefully crafted by the MegaMedia and drilled into their brains for many years, are the exact opposite of reality.
I heard the “lazy Obama who golfs and vacations all the time” nonsense. He’s the hardest working President in modern history…that’s just simple fact that’s not debatable, yet there they are spouting the exact opposite.
I heard the “dumb Obama needs a teleprompter to do anything” nonsense. President Barack Hussein Obama has held two, TWO! press conferences where the questioners were Republicans. I’ve never heard of a President ever doing this. He does live interviews with his biggest critics like Bill O’Loofah right before the Super Bowl. He doesn’t screen questioners at town halls and almost never sticks his foot in his mouth. President Barack Hussein Obama is one of the best off-the-cuff speakers we’ve ever had as a President. Again, the exact opposite of what’s pumped on purpose into our public discourse.
I heard the “Obama is weak on national security” B.S. Our guy gets bin Laden, clearly sparks a lot of the revolutions in the Middle East from his Cairo Speech (worth a re-read, y’all!), gets Somali pirates and pretty much ends that whole thing, yet there they are saying the exact opposite of reality.
And the list goes on and on…
I won’t even start on the Opposite World of my “true progressive” relatives. Mission Accomplished though for the Repubs and the their propaganda arm, the MegaMedia, which is to tear down this trailblazer as much as they possibly can.
I know if I had to attend family reunions with your crowd I would arrive late, eat and leave early. I have relatives like that and have found arguing does no good with them as one of them who I considered intelligent as she is the head of a hospital lab and is very well educated said to me, “Well, you may have your facts, but I have my years of experience to go on. ” Anotherwords she is going on what has happened in the past and applying it to the present regardless of the reality of the situation. Facts be damned, what she feels is where it is at! I roll my eyes and walk away when bashing begins. They already know how I feel as I have tried the fact route.
People often see what they believe. They might as well have a brick for a brain, because they are not engaging their intellect. They tend to be controlled by their emotions, even though they may be smart their thinking is hampered by the level of arrested devolpement in their emotional IQ. As individuals we have a lot of responsibility for the experiences that we go through in life, because along the way we make choices, and well informed choices make for more optimal experiences. Life really doesn’t just happen to us, we create it as we go.
I don’t know how that happened sorry for the double-sorta-post. I’m a boob
People such as your relative see what they believe. They might as well have a brick for a brain, because they are not engaging their intellect. They are controlled by their emotions. They may be smart, but their critical thinking is hampered by their arrested emotional IQ.
And that will reflect in the decisions they make, and the experiences they create in their own lives.
I simply wouldn’t go. You can love em from afar. He’s BLAAAAACCCCCCKKKKKK, y’all.
I would simply disown them…
Fortunately, I’ve only had to disown one PUMA aunt who was a Hillary supporter and turned really hateful after President Obama won the primaries…
But even her own kids disowned her as promptly as I did…
Old feminist University professor with a deep ingrained feminist community which Hillary strangely never really embraced until she realized she could exploit it…
I find that for me, I get a really good sense of people based on their take on President Obama…
It typically says a great deal about who they intrinsically are…
…with a deeply ingrained sense of communal feminism…
Wingnuts are the same all over the country. Sometimes it seems as though they corral all of them, take them into the woods and drill dumb talking point after dumb talking point into their brains until they begin to repeat them even when they make no friggin sense. “Obama is weak on national security” What??!!! That’s so ridiculous and frankly downright stupid on so many different levels. This is the President who got OBL and after they decoded some of the info, was able to get another head honcho terrorist in Somalia; Mubarak resigned on his watch; Gaddafi is no longer in legitimate power and President Obama is weak on foreign policy? 2012 is going to be loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong.
Wow, Rachel just showed a chart of popularity of different groups and people. At the very bottom was the tea party and the person ust above the tea party was sista Sarah. Go figure.
Yeah, Marco. That’s your ticket.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) said out loud today that (from the article) ” … programs like Social Security and Medicare have ‘weakened us as a people’; i.e., undermined the moral fabric and strength of the American people.”
Looks like he’ll be the next challenger for the 2012 presidential race, although he denies it. Maybe he’ll be the vice presidential candidate.
He’s talkin’ the talk.
From Marco Rubio’s bio on Wiki: “Rubio is the second son and third child of Cuban exiles Mario Rubio (1927–2010) and Oria Garcia (born 1931), and was born in Miami, Florida.” “His father was a bartender and his mother worked as a hotel housekeeper in Las Vegas, Nevada.”
Unfortunately, his dad is no longer living, but I believe his mother would be 80 years old this year, which would make her eligible for both Social Security and Medicare.
Like all Republicans, I’m sure his comments about Social Security and Medicare today didn’t hit home, but they should have.
By the way, even though I’m an original Baby Boomer and feel the same as I did when I was 15 (in my own mind!), I’m on Social Security and am eligible for Medicare this year myself (how’d that happen?), and I don’t feel I’m “weakening” anybody in this country “as a people.” Probably just as Rubio’s parents did, I worked all my life to pay into and then qualify for these “entitlements” (plus you contribute for Medicare when you become eligible). Thank you Democrats!
Former Vice President Dick Cheney says in a new memoir that he urged President George W. Bush to bomb a suspected Syrian nuclear reactor site in June 2007. But, he wrote, Mr. Bush opted for a diplomatic approach after other advisers — still stinging over “the bad intelligence we had received about Iraq’s stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction” — expressed misgivings.
“I again made the case for U.S. military action against the reactor,” Mr. Cheney wrote about a meeting on the issue. “But I was a lone voice. After I finished, the president asked, ‘Does anyone here agree with the vice president?’ Not a single hand went up around the room.”
He really is Darth Vader in the flesh.
He’s satan personified.
Yep, you and bonkers are both right. My Republican husband said last week “He is not a leader.” He had used the talking points of how he “rammed things through”……wonder where he heard that???!!! “You think we’re broke now; just wait and see how broke we’re going to be with Obamacare.” “He hasn’t passed a budget.” ………and more talking points that I’ve chosen to forget. He has pretty much all the talking points down. Someone told me last week to ask (demand) SPECIFIC facts from him. I will do that the next time we get into a discussion.
Yea,tell your husband to try using the brains the good Lord gave him instead of FOX, Limbaugh and all the other haters.
Yes, he is intelligent….has a degree in History and POLITICAL SCIENCE..ha ha. Entire career was in Information Technology (retail executive). He’s a lot like someone above said…….facts don’t matter……it’s more feelings and emotions and experiences. Sure……rrriiiigghhtt. Okay, this time, it’s goodnight for sure. Been a looooooonnnnngggg day for me……….
Good evening, as per Randi Rhodes make your husband talk about the accomplishments of the GOP party.. Make him say them out loud and ask him to tell you what is great about the government..
Please report back to us when he gives you these answers…
Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time. From experience I don’t think that you can change his mind (my husband is a supporter of PBO but some other family members are rabid conservatives.) These people can’t change because it is like giving up a part of themselves, their identity. Arguing just gives them the opportunity to sharpen their fighting skills. The very most you could hope for is that he doesn’t vote at all but that’s a long shot. (I have a brother-in-law who didn’t vote for Bush the second time because he thought he was too liberal – go figure!) I have found that if there is a crowd of people the loudest are usually spouting talking points and just assume that everyone agrees with them. Try to spot who is not agreeing with them and have quiet discussions with those people. A nice tactic is to drop into the conversation that you are a supporter of the President and then proceed to look a lot more reasonable and pleasant to be around than the blowhard. It doesn’t even need to be all that political. The thing about loud mouths is they act like they are important and their vote is somehow worth more. In fact, everyone’s vote is EXACTLY THE SAME SIZE. So my only advice is to encourage the reasonable people who can be persuaded and don’t waste effort on those who are unreachable. There are plenty of “quiet supporters of the President’ out there who would like a nice chat with a kindred spirit. Seek them out and keep coming here because it’s a wonderful place where you can be with friends.
I didn’t mean to call your husband a blowhard. It does look that way when I read it back. I am just saying it’s better to talk to those who are reachable than those who are not.. make sure any Democrats you know plan to vote etc. Be a good representative of the President. If you run into the kind of leftie who is “disappointed” in the President, talk to them about how the alternative is unacceptable (it is unacceptable so it shouldn’t be a hard sell).
Focusing your energy on that and remind yourself that your husband only has one vote and you intend to see to it that you encourage other Democrats to offset that vote. It should give you some satisfaction, knowing you are winning the fight in the only place that matters. The voting booth. :)
Tnntngirl obviously you really adore your husband because most of your comments are usually about what your husband think and how he feels. His political persuasion would have been a deal breaker for a relationship let alone a marriage. That would be maximum stress. I usually stroll past your comments because you indirectly spout the GOP talking points through your husband view. Please correct me if i am wrong Out of respect for this site I won’t say to you what I really want because it is not my site.
I’m going to say this and I don’t mean to offend anyone, but it is how I feel. Most of the Republicans do not like the fact that a Black man is President. If a lie detector were given to Republican voters, and the question were asked about the President being Black, if it bother them? I bet it would show that yes indeed it does bother them, alot. They claim it’s his policies, and I have no doubt that some of it is about policies, but I also have no doubt that alot of the Republican voters don’t like President Obama because he is Black.
Wow, reading you all about your relatives, it really is scary. I thought atleast you all being of sound mine, that most of your relatives would be also. I sympathize with you all, sincerely, as it must be difficult having the lone supportive view of the President in your own homes. It really brings home the work to be done out there. Also, how ingrained bias is. I haven’t read one cogent argument against PBO from your accounts- just, as you say, talking points. Rote commentary. Our President deserves better.
Yes, it is scary and highly frustrating. Most of the time, my hubby and I just don’t talk about it, but when we do, he has all the talking points and if I try to “pin” him down, he does the typical Republican thing–he changes the subject and usually by asking me a question instead of answering mine. Even if I ask him the same question 2 or 3 times, I still don’t get an answer. then, for me/us, there’s the race issue. He absolutely insists race has NOTHING to do with it…..it’s his policies (talking point.) I have pointed out to him 3 times about the many trailblazers in the past (Jackie Robinson and others) and how history proves what they went through and that, in this case, it is the most powerful position IN THE WORLD. I shared the story with him from our very good AA friend here who talked about how she grew up (Mississippi)….mother couldn’t vote; dad had to pay poll tax until Voting Right’s Act passed; she participated in sit-ins and marches. Then she said she could say with 1000% assurance that PO could turn the WH inside out; could solve EVERY problem our country has (foreign and domestic) and it still would not be good enough…..that whatever he does or doesn’t do or says or doesn’t say will never be good enough with many people. I then pointed out that PO is NO different than our granddaughter and asked how he would like it if our friends and family demeaned and de-legitimized and ostracized/made racial comments about her……pointed out that is exactly what has gone on from day one with PO. Sadly, he never answered my question. I let it drop, but will surely ask it again when the door is opened.
I so appreciate the support I get for all of you and am open to any suggestions on how to talk with him. Saying goodnight for now………
tnmtngirl, the images of white superiority are ingrained, and too many white people, and some AA’s in fact, cannot get it out of their minds. There is “supposed” to be a white person in the “white” house. There are “supposed” to be white men on our money. Only ‘white men” can be on Mt. Rushmore. Only whites can own the majority of corporations, banks, sports teams, etc. T’was not long ago that only white men could be quarterbacks in football. Even MLK day , though official, is not observed as sacredly as President’s Day. As I see it, the office of the Presidency has been diminished in the eyes of many since it is currently held by a black man. Even some black people have lost respect for the office, and it’s because they don’t value themselves as highly as they do white people. This is why so many blacks have allowed themselves to be played by the media into thinking the President is not doing enough for them, when all of his programs which benefit directly the American people, actually disproportionately benefit AAs and other so-called minorities. This is the mindset we have all been living with since we were brought here against our will. And sadly, the white man has miseducated his people while at the same time forbade AAs education, and subsequently allowed a substandard one at best. So, your husband, although he has a mixed-race granddaughter, cannot simply change his mind. He is the symbolism of power in this country, and has sadly fallen for the okie-doke for too long. Note that President Obama felt the discomfort of his own grandmother’s bigotry at an early age, which was a catalyst for him searching for an identity which he could function by. Racism is the greatest evil this country has been guilty of, and too large a portion of it is obviously not ready for change. God help President Obama, and God help the rest of us.
May I also add that for so many, the stubborn embrace of obvious and blatant lies and negative narratives of President Obama help ease the deeply held racist resentments and bigotry that motivates and justifies them…
If they can hold fast to these lies about him, they do not ever have to confront their deep-seated bigotry…
It’s really as simple as that…
Even some of our ‘liberal’ friends are as guilty of this…
If they can keep exaggerating some random ‘promise’ President Obama failed to deliver in the purest sense…
If they can insanely nit-pick to death some human imperfection in meeting some impossible standard they purposely set in the hopes that he can never meet them…and moving goalposts when he appears to get close…
If they can do all this and yet praise to high heavens any member of the white GOP opposition who even marginally utters a slightly sane but mundane thought…
What other conclusion but the very obvious…
Racism in its many forms and manifestations and packaging is still very much alive and hard at work in 2011…
God bless us all…
I think we all have someone in our family that spouts talking points. Unfortunately, recently my brother and I purchased a home together and are now living together. He voted for President Obama, but he works with some real nut jobs. We got into a discussion on Sunday about the word “conservative.” I told him it is a misconception that Republicans are conservatives, when it is the Democrats that know the value of a dollar. He got an earful from me about the value of unions on all working people, union or not, and the state of our country because of lobbyists and corporations. He has two grandsons so I told him he had better get himself informed with facts before we don’t have a country for his grandchildren to grow up in. I was hot, hot, hot and he knew it. No discussion since.
Jackie 4 Obama…I live with my brother as well. I know that the more you dicuss politics, the better you become at it. He also works with alot of boneheads……so we have something to laugh at, and be disgusted with….but he is more easily frustrated with President Obama than I am. I think he cedes too much power to the Republicans and their nasty and ruthless ambition. He thinks I am too idealistic. We went for two or three days in December after the tax debate/bill, where he thought President Obama caved and I thought he had made pragmatic gains, where we didn’t even want to be in the same room together, at least I know I didn’t. Hot,hot, hot pretty much described the atomosphere around here. That argument made me sick to my stomach. But I’ve seen my ideas take hold in him over the last few months, and he has softened a bit, he is recognizing the MSM malpractice and now acknowledges the bigotry that fuels so much of the publics dissent, so quietly I take a little bit of credit for that and consider it an accompolishment. He knows I expend alot of energy calling, writing, and emailing our Congressional representatives and he knows I am well informed, and he respects that. He is a voracious reader and I respect that in him, although he seems to start out being a bit stuck in parrot mode…but eventually gets into more critical thinking the more he discusses what he is reading. I know we both appreciate the mental stimulation these discussions provide. I leave him references for articles to check out during the day, and he usually wants to know what is going on here, and I fill him in (except I leave out the girl talk ;) ..I especially like to include the funny things because politics can get so frustrating and he can be pulled to pessemism so easily. But like you we agree, that our neices, nephews and great nephew are who we are most concerned for and who need to be encouraged to be informed and engaged. We’ve been fairly persuasive…..ironically the 3 we can not seem to reach out of 9, are the ones that have been rasied amidst the greatest affluence, or at least the appearance of it.
You absolutely amazing Sue…
Keep up the good work…

tnmttngirl…it’s tough when it’s someone you love and have to manage your day to day relationship with. I don’t mean to offend but your husband sounds like a parrot. Maybe you could ask him to elaborate or expand on those talking points. You can always say he is not being clear, or you are trying to better understand his positions.
I usually just keep asking questions, make them talk, I don’t debate their points until they reveal how much they really know or really don’t know. The other thing IMO about talking points is they are largely designed to persuade, or manipulate thinking. You might suggest it is not a good idea to rely on them if he wants to make optimal decisions, or if he wants to be well prepared to discuss policy and politics.
Talking points repeated ad nauseum make him appear to be both gullible and easily mislead. He might want to demonstrate that he’s a deeper thinker and a more informed person than the everyday fool.
Who does your husband look up to as leaders? Just curious what attributes he thinks define leadership.
tnmttngirl…I really regret my comment. I support you in your efforts, I know it isn’t easy. You’ll find a way to at least be clear about what you stand for, and why you choose to support PBO. He has the right to his ideas. I’ve gotten alot better in my ability to discuss politics, the one thing I always have to control is my emotions. In fact today would be a day where I feel far to aggressive to engage in such conversations unless I had a sympathetic partner in conversation. Today I’ld just a soon slap a Republican as look at them. I better work on my attitude;)
Well, guess who is up……couldn’t sleep for many reasons. Long day with traveling to see my mom……royally “pissed” with things I found at the assisted living…….worried about my daughter and her family traveling here tomorrow from Chesapeake, VA and what they may find when they return home……and, of course, the issues with my hubby. ALL of you offer such good, objective insight. THANK YOU each and every one. Sue, it’s my emotions that usually get me too, though I have gotten much better in that regard. EDP, the points you made are hugely insightful and really give me a lot to think about. Your point about only “white” man in the “white” house is, I believe, true. Our AA friend here has also said much the same thing to me. And, my husband and I share a first cousin (there’s a story there, but won’t tell it now :) ). He said a few weeks ago that the Republican’s have the attitude that only a Republican has a “right” to be in the WH…..he said that’s certainly been the meme/overriding attitude since JFK and I agree with him. So, PO is not only a Democrat; he’s also black–two major strikes against him!!
To echo EDP: God help PO and God help all of us. It’s going to be a LLOOONNNGGG year!!!
Sorry to hear that you have cause for upset. Is your Mom ok? Just thinking of my own Mom, and how I never wanted her to be neglected or suffer in anyway in her later years.
I felt bad that I was so quick to “advise”….talk is cheap unfortunately, doing is the hard part. You know that we all support you here and that in the end political differences between you and your husband can just be that. None of us can make another person change……change is a personal evolution, but you might in the end find that in small ways you have influenced his thinking, even if it is just to soften his opposition to the President. America, at the same time, is both not ready and yet must face the reality of it’s racial inequalities. Many people aren’t even aware of how insidious and systemic these prejudices are. It has, and it will continue to be difficult….but I say we have no reason to quit. We will get tougher as we go, and the times, and there will be times for all of us, when it feels like to much we have each other to comfort, support and encourage. We are here for all the right reasons…and for the right reasons we will keep going.
Hope you get to sleep! Sounds like you have a lot to look forward to tomorrow.
Take care of yourself tnmtngirl…
God bless and protect your mum…
FYI. I just checked Twitter and Mark Knoller has not tweeted since yesterday at 4:30 p.m. M
Mark is probably coming to terms with the demise of one-sided media domination and exploitation…
Instant feedback and push back to his lie infested article must have shocked the system of a guy who could once upon a time drop a stink bomb and walk away unchallenged…
I wonder why that is Jackie 4, could it be he knows the public knows that he is a scumbag lying so call journalists.
Good morning friends, Just got up after 2.5 hrs. of sleep. SO appreciate ALL the comments from EVERYONE. NO need to apologize……you each offer wonderful insight and/or personal experiences. I do believe that some of the things I say to him gives him “food for thought” and makes a tiny dent. I also believe in the power of prayer so one of my prayers every day is that God will take away the hate and intolerance and non-acceptance of PO and replace it with at least acceptance (if not love) and I ask that that change begin with my husband.
P.S. It wasn’t our discussion here that caused me to not sleep. I have a very upset tummy…..either what I ate or a “bug”. Just great with my family arriving today, huh? I’ll survive!!!
