Economists: GOP Cites Deeply Flawed CBS Report To Blame Debt On Obama
Top Republicans couldn’t be happier with a Monday CBS News report logging the growth in the national debt under President Obama.
I hope people will go after Mark Knoller and CBS again today because they gave the GOP such a gift.
CBS doesn’t have the same reputation as FOX. It’s a ”serious” network and Mark Knoller is a ”serious” journalist.
What a mess.. I’m so angry about this.
I notice all of twitter is rightfully at war with Knoller. This was pathetic—–and now like robots all of the media, including our “liberal” station—-hahaha—-is using this CBS piece to place all the blame of debt on Obama. And I noticed the same thing TPM noticed—–Knoller’s tweets have become increasingly hostile toward Obama, not professional, snarky, cynical, sarcastic comments. And CBS did that hit piece on Obama’s bus tour last Sun. a.m.—-took an encouraging and uplifting series of townhalls and turned it into an anti-Obama piece, ending with a somber, dark comment that when people are THIS angry and not working together, it’s the coach that gets fired.
and not a peep from knoller today as far as I can tell.. and certainly no admission that he messed up. This is why I do not view the tv media whatsoever. They lie and they fail the public constantly. They are determined to elect a republican president by hook or by crook- and they are determined to cause harm of any sort to this President in the process.
Time to blast the major national news networks…..they are jackals, and we see through them. Consumers need to pull the plug.

University of Illinois Campaign Urbana is participating in the Solar Decathalon. Every week the EERE newsletter features an entry into this competition. I really like this one, it’s for rehousing people devastated by tornadoes and has a solar component. Apparently it’s meant to be prefabricated and shipped to the area where the damage was done. Very clever: http://www.solardecathlon.illinois.edu/index.php

I loved the question about what is President Obama doing about hurricane Irene threatening the entire East Coast. The reporter also wanted to know if President Obama was going to shorten his vacation because of Irene.
I am loving how Josh Earnest is handling the jackals. He reminded the reporter that the head of FEMA is William Craig Fugate who has extensive experience in Florida and was appointed by Jeb Bush. President Obama has complete confidence in him. He then proceeded to say that everyone in the path of Irene should be listening to and acting upon the advice of local state officials.
Next question please……….
That reporter certainly tried to imply that PBO should personally be handling the details of the logistics in this hurricane, asking if he was in charge of making sure there was enough water and looking into other potential shortages in the region. TOO ABSURD FOR WORDS.
Some of these reporters really do ask asinine questions. One of them demanded to see a list of all the “celebrities” President Obama has been “hobnobbing” with on his supposed working vacation. WTF? I love how Josh Earnest was like President Obama isn’t hobnobbing with anyone. He doesn’t seek out the limelight, but as President you’re not ever completely off duty and he runs in to many people, but he has been enjoying spending the majority of time with his daughters before they begin school. In other words; it’s none of your damn business.
I like Josh Earnest a lot. He looks really young.
Compare these questions with the questions from the folks at the town hall
The two kids from the Scholastic News asked smarter questions.
Even the freedom fighters and celebrating Libyans are more media savy and intelligent than our media jackals… oops… journalists.
I just can’t believe these questions. What celebrities is he meeting with? Is he watching tv coverage of Tripoli? Did he feel the earthquake. What did he say? Who informed him? Did he ever leave the golf course? This is not real journalism, this is more like tabloid gossip.
And I think it was Ed Henry asking about something President Obama said on the campaign trail. He’s been president for two and a half years and we still have to hear this nonsense about what he said on campaign trail. The campaign is over. He is doing the hard work of governing now. Sheesh….
Part of the problem for the reporters is that President Obama has a highly intelligent and capable cabinet. He has confidence in them to do their jobs. He has enough on his plate. Why should he have to micromanage FEMA?? Unbelievable.
Josh Earnest is just great. Very crisp and to the point responses.
They are so freaking unreasonable…why do we bother with their nonsense? It’s hard to believe they graduated from college, their immaturity and impertinence is reflective of 5 and 6 year olds. Seriously!
They project absolute power unto PBO for the sole purpose of creating a case for their manufactured memes of failure and disappointment, and probably a deeper more nefarious impulse to destroy the Democratic agenda. Who knew, Barack Ganesha Obama…..Ganesha in Hindu mythology is the master and remover of all obstacles. He is a God.
“…TOO ABSURD FOR WORDS.”
Ain’t that tha truth…
PBHO doesn’t “do micromanagin’!”
What would they like him to do? Personally fly into the eye of the hurricane and use his bully pulpit to yell at it? Just like he was supposed to swim to the bottom of the gulf to personally plug the oil leak. They could make a comedy show out of these press conferences.
Josh Earnest is a really good spokesperson as White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary. I can’t believe Dan Lothian asked the question “Has the President been watching our coverage of Libya? Is he glued to the television watching all the live updates we’re bringing to the American people?” No dumbass he’s not glued to CNN and your sporadic coverage. He gets more news about Libya in a second than you guys get in 2 hours.
Bwahahahahahahahahahaha President Obama has a Tv screen attached to his Golf Balls and Bicycle glued to CNN, the most trusted name in Teabagging.
LOL, that was a superb comment Me4O!
Love it – CNN, “The most trusted name in Teabagging”
lol I love this
I’m going to tweet that one if you don’t mind.
Most of those questions were just tabloid trash. The jackals are a total embarrassment. It is hard to believe they are getting six figure salaries for such inept journalism.
He should have said he’s watching the BBC for coverage of Libya.
Gov. Corbett’s Education Cuts Force Pennsylvania School District To Use Sheep To Cut Grass
When I lived in New Jersey, decades ago, one of the local malls used sheep to keep their grass trimmed. First time I saw it, driving by, I almost ran into something.
lol I would imagine,.
Goats have been used to clear the grasses in the area around the Zoo in Oakland, Ca for many years.
That there is an exercise in spin-doctoring. Many school districts are discovering the advantages of having sheep cut their grass. For one thing, it’s more environmentally sustainable, and in the end, cheaper. This is why I don’t read thinkprogress, ever.
I think it was more about the GOP cutting funding on everything than the sheep.
Most of the articles in Think Progress are about the GOP/Teabaggers, a lot about their town hall meetings.
I like it
From Steve Benen:
“* In a national survey, Public Policy Polling shows President Obama tied with Mitt Romney in a hypothetical match-up, with each getting 45% support. The president leads Rick Perry in the poll, 49% to 43%, and leads Michele Bachmann, 50% to 42%.
* In Iowa, where voters have spent a fair amount of time getting to know the Republican presidential hopefuls, President Obama leads all of the leading GOP candidates by double digits in general-election match-ups.”
First, the BEST news is about Iowa. Small, but a canary in the coal mine. Voters really know their politics, and they get to know the candidates. The GOP has been camped out there for months, PBO visited last week, and who is up by double digits on ALL GOPers? One of the best campaigners in American history. I think this is a very good omen for the state to state battles to come.
As for Romney, they have been essentially tied for months. Remember, 90 % of Republicans would not vote for PBO even if he saved their houses from burning down. That is why Romney can be at 45%, and PBO has an approval ceiling at about 55% max. I still think Perry will get the nomination.
And Romney hasn’t had an ad run against him or any real attack from a primary challenger towards him during a debate. He is pretty much “generic Republican candidate” since he’s pretty known in terms of name recognition from his 2008 attempt in early primary States.
I hope people will pick up on the “Rich Romney” nomenclature….wrap that boy in a Wall Street blanket and smother him.
DTTM I believe too that Willard won’t be the Nominee, Perry will and all these polls are a complete waste of time that some people take them seriously to the point of freaking out. PBO is not campaigning and when he does it will be HELL ON EARTH.
why do you think that Perry will win the nomination…he is unelectable in the general election
It will be hell on earth for Perry! He has never had to face anyone like the president and his forces. He’s had it easy in Texas…..never really gets out and does much. Just pays the good old boys. I’m doubting that he will be able to take the long haul even to the primaries. His campaigns in Texas were only about 3 months. I don’t think he has the stamina to make it through the long campaign. Now, watch me be totally wrong!!! As some Texans have said, we want to get rid of him, but we don’t want to punish the country!
The Important people in the GOP will not back Perry (in my opinion). He is no different than Palin or Bachmann in pants. You can’t spin the stuff in “FED UP” which was the dumbest thing a candidate could do before deciding to run. Plus Perry is so illiterate and can’t put two sentences together. The only way Perry is the nominee if he never debates any of the other candidates which will be very hard to do.
Believe Andrea Mitchell just said the dinner tonight to open the five-day ceremonies for the MLK Memorial dedication has had to be moved to the convention center, due to the earthquake damage on the National Mall. (Hope I got that right – I was listening from the other room!)
Sorry to hear about damage to both the Washington Monument and the National Cathedral. Thank God there was no loss of life, as far as I’ve heard.
Did you guys hear when that female reporter asked Josh Earnest what date exactly the President was going to give his jobs policy speech. And then she said she would like to know, if he’s going to give it before or after Romney. Because Romney’s jobs unveiling was going to be very big news coverage and they were also going to be on the look out for Sarah Palin’s possible presidential announcement and they might be too busy with that overload of coverage and the President’s speech might get bumped in the coverage wars. Crying out loud, what the hell is wrong with our media? The President of the United States of America is giving a very important policy speech on jobs and the economy and we’re concerned with dull as dishwater Romney who isn’t the nominee by any stretch and Palin who at best is scum and at worst a disgusting, vile, vitriolic creature. Josh Earnest looked completely disgusted and then he said I’m sure when the President gives his speech it’ll be accorded with the highest level of coverage as befitting the President of the United States. Lord save us from our worthless, useless, baseless, nincompoop of a media.
You’ve got to be kidding UT!!! She said that?
Anything to promote the GOP,.
Unbelievable!!!!! This is what passes for journalism these days. I am sure Sarah Palin and Mittens are soooooo much more important that the POTUS.
I wonder who that was. I’d love to send her a tweet.
Which media outlet does she represent? Fuck you lady, remind us not to be bothered with your drivel and orchestrated crap.
Could we use a chuckle?
I’ve posted this before, but (pardon me), I can’t get enough of it.
Website from ’08 which playfully responds to the meme then by a gazillion of us that Barack Obama is “the nicest man on earth.” It’s meant in good fun (Barack Obama loves you), and yet it responds even now to so many of the “Obama needs to fly into the eye of the hurricane – we’re counting on you” crapola from the left and the right.
Wow – Reuters put out some good news already, from Josh’s press briefing:
MSNBC reporter on the ground in North Carolina just said that FEMA will be in close touch with the White House on Hurricane Irene, since its trajectory may not only involve hitting NC, but there may be possible effects of the hurricane seen on Martha’s Vineyard, “where the president is vacationing.”
They just have to get that last part in, don’t they? To people who dislike our President, it was as though FEMA would be gearing all of its efforts toward making sure the slackard President and First Family are safe. Why does it frost me so much?? And why am I watching MSNBC?
See y’all later. Takin’ a break! Keep smiling.
Not to mention the President will be back in DC on Saturday and the hurricane wouldn’t hit MV until late Sunday or early Monday by current forecasts.
JO’B… Your remote has a power button, ON… or … OFF! I was dusting in my den the other day, noticed a lovely sheen of dust on the remote, as it hasn’t been used since that fateful day in June, and that was to turn off PBS! Gwen Ifill was about to launch a tirde on the ‘phenonimon of Sarah Palin’. Enough, I said, that is IT! Not going there again, and PBS Was the only one I could tolerate anymore! It can be done.
ICAM. The GOP and their MSM watercarriers are going to distort, lie, and call PBO everything but a child of God, and I don’t need to watch their programs to know that. Not knocking you hearty souls that do watch the news channels but IMO life’s too short to needlessly get agitated and upset. I’ve been steering clear of those clowns for months.
Here’s a possible reason why Mark Knoller was pushing the President-Obama-ballooned-the-deficit meme.
Because the deficit is projected to be smaller.
“CBO: Budget deficit to hit $1.28T, down slightly
WASHINGTON (AP) — The federal budget deficit will hit $1.28 trillion this year, down slightly from the previous two years, with even bigger savings to come over the next decade, according to congressional projections released Wednesday.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office says budget deficits will be reduced by a total of $3.3 trillion over the next decade, largely because of the deficit reduction package passed by Congress earlier this month.”
So to get ahead of the fact that this President is bringing down the deficit and would have brought it down more if the Grand Bargain had been struck and to get ahead of the fact that this President added more jobs in 2 years than Bush did in 8 and to get ahead of the fact that this President got bin Laden and is ending the rule of Gaddaffi for the cost of a single day in Afghanistan, Knoller and other GOP enablers have to flog memes like Obama is solely responsible for a $4 trillion deficit.
Have I mentioned lately how much I despise these unserious scumbags? Does anyone even remember Knoller being out front as the nation’s leading deficit fetishist while Bush was blowing up the nation’s credit card with Medicare D and starting two wars? And I’m supposed to take him seriously now?
Victoria Nuland, State Department Spokeswoman gives a wonderful answer to a stupid question from a reporter. This was just terrific.
August 23, 2011
What many people are asking, even within the (inaudible) there in Libya that it has taken too long for the United States to help the opposition or to get Qadhafi out. One, why it took so long because thousands of more people have been killed by Qadhafi regime; and second, now do you believe that you – do you believe and you have confidence in this group now that they will be supporting the fair and free elections and democracy?
Well, Goyal, thank you for that opportunity to step back a little bit. As I said, although this situation remains fluid in some neighborhoods of Tripoli, and we all understand that this isn’t over until it’s completely over and until all weapons are laid down and the process of transition completely begins, it’s important to remember that this fight has lasted less than 200 days. It was February 16th, around then, that the protests really began in Libya. Ten days, just a mere 10 days after that, UN Security Council 1970 was passed, which froze the assets of the Qadhafi regime, which imposed the arms embargo and the travel ban, which allowed humanitarian aid to begin to flow. I said yesterday I think that under the President’s leadership, the Secretary, Ambassador Rice at the UN, all of us, have been working to assemble one of the broadest and deepest communities of common action in current memory to address this situation.
So 10 days after the protests begin, you see this first UN Security Council resolution. Thirty days after that, on March 17th, a mere 30 days, UN Security Council 1973, which not only imposed the no-fly zone, but also authorized all necessary means to protect civilians. Just two days after that, the President approved U.S. to begin action to implement that resolution, to use our unique capabilities to take out the air defenses of the regime. And it was just a week after that, March 26th, that the NATO operation was approved and NATO began picking up more and more of this mission. That same week, March 29th, the Secretary proposed, and the international community stood up, the Libya Contact Group. It initially had 20 countries and a number of international organizations. It now has 40 countries, including not only the UN and NATO and the EU, but also the African Union, the GCC, the Arab League, to support the Libyan people, to support the TNC politically, economically, militarily in this fight for transition.
And just a couple of months after this all began, we opened our mission in Benghazi, and then on April 15th you saw the NATO ministers, at the Secretary’s initiative, all call for Qadhafi to go, and that call, obviously, echoed throughout the international community thereafter.
So less than 200 days, one of the broadest coalitions in history – U.S. leadership absolutely essential in galvanizing this community. But again, it’s not over till it’s over. And not only does this community need to help the Libyans finish the job, it’s got to stay with Libya, stay with its government, as it moves through the difficult transition. Because we’ve all seen that sometimes the hardest work starts after liberation when you have to rebuild a state, and in the case of Libya, a state that’s been ruled by a dictator for 40 years.
Excellent response by Ms. Nuland and another clear showing of incompetence by our worthless media!
That’s absolutely wonderful! And did they have to revive the reporter who asked that question after that tsunami of an answer?
Excellent answer. By the way, I don’t recall any of this micromanagement by media at the beginning of the Iraq or Afghanistan wars.
