by Dr Maya Angelou
Reverend Martin Luther King
The great soul
Flew from the Creator
Bearing manna of hope
For his country
Starving severely from an absence of compassion.
Martin Luther King
The Great Spirit,
Came from the Creator
Proffering a sparkling fountain of fair play
To his country
Parched and deformed by hate.
The whole man came forth
With a brain of gentle wisdom
To persuade quiet
Upon the loud misery of the mob.

I love reading Maya Angela’s words. They have such powerful images yet soft touching impact.
Is the President and First Family back at the White House yet?
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL..I SENT IT TO MY PRINTER…GOING TO PASS SOME COPIES AROUND.
You’re the best. Wish you lived in my neighborhood!
Whoops! Maya Angelou’s instead of my phonetic spelling. Found this new post before logging off. I had tried to listen to the Progressive radio station and then tv. I found only talk of primarying Obama or the hurricane so came on here in blissful silence.
I will check back later tonight. Those on the East Coast, please stay safe.
OH sweet. Thank you Chips.
Absolutely beautiful. here is something the president did way before the hurricane. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20098041-503544.html
Forget about optics, I’ll take preparedness any day!
thx for the link.
Great poem. Very evocative words. Maya Angelou is the best.
Dr. Maya Angelou’s work is always uplifting to my soul. This great piece is another one. Beautiful. It is written for where we started, where we came into our start, where we left a hard and wonderful mark on the nation so depleted by the ugly head of hate, and other ugly injustices. Then she moved us through the Master’s hand to the vessel’s feet. Now we stand at the feet of that great man to continue to walk and even march to the beat of the love, compassion, hard work, removal of some ugly scabs from our souls, so it can be healed. If we take not but one thought from her words; I will take for myself, “I pledge to give more each day to make his dream get closer to sea of reality.” Come on beautiful tapstry, let’s make it ring true.HZ
meant to say closer to a sea of reality.
HZ you are the poet of TOD. How beautifully you express yourself, and always from your heart. I will join you, accepting the responsibility,” to give more each day to make his dream get closer to reality .”
Maya Angelou has expressed herself in poetry that has historical timbre and will resonate for years to come. Her words infused with the beauty of truth.
Thank you Chips and meta for sharing this beautiful poem about Martin Luther King written by Maya Angelou.
