Our Energizer Bunny is at it again. He hits the ground running after his ‘vacation’ . President Obama is a man of action.
Well…you won’t see any “Heckuva job, Brownie!” moments from him, thank the Maker.
I think he likes all the techy stuff they have in there and went down to see it all in action. I still worry about the WH windows. That storm is 1,000 miles across which means 100 miles or more out of the eye the winds will still be at hurricane force.
They don’t board the windows?
Nah, it’ll be all right. I’m sure that over the years the WH has had numerous “upgrades” to make it hold out on something like this.
OSGranny, I would imagine that the White House windows, while they may look like the same kind of windows that you and I have, are bullet proof and design to withstand all manner of impacts. I wouldn’t worry about the White House. Solid as a rock… And even if something happened to it, there are lots and lots of underground sites where the President, his family and White House can go to be out of harms way.
Good!! The News tells me 5 have died in this storm already and in NC 630,000 are without power already. This storm is a nasty piece of work.
Bless his soul…never stops, always working for the people’s safety. Thank you Chips.
In other news, another victory for PBO
US official: Al-Qaida’s No. 2 killed in Pakistan
Atiyah Abd al-Rahman rose to the position following Osama bin Laden’s death in May
Man, it just sucks being Al Qaeda’s number two. It’s like a death sentence.
Being No. 1 is not a whole lot healthier these days.
Carla, every time I scroll past your comment, a rye smile forms (all by itself) on my face.
Like being Spinal Tap’s drummer.
good riddance to horrible rubbish!
Looking forward to seeing how FOX and the Republicans spin the President’s hands on involvement.
I have to say, I have never seen this country more prepared for an event in my life. It appears every detail and possibility was thought about and planned for. I guess that’s what happens when you don’t have a horse show judge in charge of FEMA and the public safety, and you don’t have a president who would ever approve a horse show judge at that critical position.
Hah! Damn right! Heckofajob will really be so. I have been following all this since I’m in the midst and I have to say, I’m really proud & amazed and what’s being done. Gov. O’Malley was out there right away, Gov. Patrick same way. So did Mayor Bloomberg, not sure if he ever slept he’s been a constant on my teevee. Thought I heard that our VP is in Delaware. If I don’t lose power, I’ll try post something w/ more details. But, yes, we’re picking up wind & rain & I think the eye is still in Norfolk or thereabouts. Fingers crossed for the coastal towns/cities. And can those damn surfers just stop!? The ride is not worth a life or lives.
I was just looking at a Wilmington, N.C. news site—–checking on an old fave vaca spot, Bald Head Island, off the coast there—–and I saw a headline that said electric companies from around the country here to help restore power and there was a photo of a caravan of power co. trucks from numerous states rolling in. I’m very impressed with the planning.
Oh they will say that he is an empty suit who knows nothing and is getting in the way of the professionals and do it the way GWB did it because that worked so well.
Of course, had he not been hands on and so prepared they would just say the opposite.
That’s a given for those nincompoops.
They are willfully ignorant…..which is worse than ignorant, the reponsibility for which is on them. Someone should clue them in, they’re idiots.
Has Brownie been interviewed by someone yet? You know it’s gotta happen. Hmmm, maybe Stretch will have him on tomorrow!
Just saw that on MSNBC. He is our President with hands on information. Thank you to everybody that voted for him in 2008, and if you want a President that cares, you need to vote for him and Democrats in 2012.
Absolutely! We must work our butts off to give him functional majorities in both the House and the Senate. I’m In and already at it with OFA in Portland, OR.
Thank you, Judy!
Alright, Judy! Many thanks to you and your fellow patriots at OFA-Portland. We’re going to win back the House and strengthen the Senate!
Yes.We.Can. and Yes.We.Will.
Now that is the way the Commander In Chief takes control and is always on station when needed. He leaves no one handing out there by themselves .He is always in the fight no matter what others say. President Obama is the man for the job on all fronts.YES WE CAN DO IT AGAIN KEEP HIM IN OFFICE>THIS IS REALLY THE CHANGE WE THOUGHT IT WAS AND IS.
Wesleya17, I concur. This President takes control of his duties with sincere obligation of his task before. There is NOT ONE THING that is overphyed about his appearance and this hurricane. I lived in them , and I know what they can and will do. So I am so grateful to see our President, Barack Obama conducting himself as a great leader as our President. He does not need to overhype anything. This hurricane is not aware of who is sitting in the chair in the Oval Office. A hurricane does not ask that before its forces hit nature. So these smallminded people are shameless. HZ
CNN livestream has video but there is no sound. ARGH. Hopefully that will be fixed and we’ll be able to see it.
I just posted this in another thread:
PBO is an outstanding leader. I just saw him at a FEMA briefing. He is making sure that everything that needs to be done, is getting done. Sounds like they are proactively reaching out to the states impacted by Irene. I’m in Maryland. Our worst time is probably about 4 hours away. Not 100% sure. I’m staying on top of the news. Hope everyone is safe.
Thanks for posting this so quickly Chipsticks!!!
Stay safe, Ann_T !
For the lunkheads I’ve seen posting on other blogs saying this hurricane is being overhyped:
I’m watching the chaos unfold here in Williamsburg, and I can say it is NOT being overyhyped.
I’m also glad to see our President working with FEMA and NOT eating cake with John McCain like President Bush did during Katrina.
You just know the media is attempting to make Hurricane Irene Obama’s “Katrina” and after all this has blown over, that the Republicans will say President Bush did a better job, even though he did absolutely NOTHING except doing a flyover and leaving folks stranded.
To say something is “overhyped” is cynical, ie, COOL. Bored with that, so 2007 – see DKOS for examples .
Just seeing the photos of Obama is reassuring. Had a talk with my 87 year old father the other day (you know – part of the age group Obama is supposedly losing) My father, “Thank God Obama is in charge and not that idiot Bush.”
gc, your pop is unbelievably AWESOME!!!!!— i don’t even know him but I love him already
Thank you Lisa, I am very lucky. My mother won’t even TALK to Republicans
Ha! Love her! I’m pretty much at that point, too!
My Mom’s a trip. She so wanted Hillary to win so that she could see a woman President in her lifetime, but is now solidly behind Obama.
My parents respect intelligence and they believe Obama is brilliant.
I am of your Mother’ ilk. In fact I worry I might one of these dyas smack one…….never been to jail, maybe my day is coming
hahahahahahaha. I laughed so hard when I read this, I snorted and snorted and snorted. You are too funny Sue,
Lisa, can I count on you to bail me out?
I’m feeling it in my bones….smackdown on the horizon. My family is so used to the ‘nice’ me, when they hear me talk like this you should see the horror on their faces. They would make me sit in jail, just to teach me a lesson. I better figure out where my better angels disapperaed to…pronto.
I’ve already squirreled away the bail money, Sue. I gotcha, senora.
Sue, I tell my brother that all the time. “When you get that call, please remember you have a sis.” He knows how his sister loves fighting for the good, but he advises me to keep it calm. But he also understands that it is difficult at times. I will look out for you Sue. But let us know when the feeling is coming on, so we can get a great attorney. Okay. Love you so much, Sue.HZ
Oh gosh, better make sure I leave some attorney fees in my bank account…my get of jail fund…just in case. Do they take cradit cards?
Love you HZ, I know you’ld have my back. And I have this image that despite your kindness, patience and beauty you could kick some serious ass with those cocoa buttered fine legs of yours. Bam!
Sue, do not worry about the retainer. I got this one for you. And for those long cocoa butter fine legs, you know they will get to kicking in a minute. Watch out these silly people messing with my President.Hz
Get a bike. Seriously. On the back of our Harley I am free to flash the bird to anything I find loathesome, such as Linda McMahon’s HQ in town a few years ago. I am unrecognizable in my helmet, and then we fly away
One more comment about my father and this whole “optics” business. The two biggest turnoffs for him during the Bush years were “Mission Accomplished” and “Good Job Brownie” optics/photo ops that had nothing to do with reality AND nothing to do with any work Bush had done.
you are killing me GCP
Well I can add to that age group.. my mother, her best friend and another elderly lady- all in their lates 70s/80s were chatting yesterday- they all support POTUS and are LIVID with the news MEDIA- I was rather surprised that these ladies.. and a gentleman around 50 ALL were very tuned in to the Lies being spread- and to the GOP candidates and what a mess they are.. so folks are paying attention. These ladies all voted for President Obama in 2008 & are voting for him in 2012.
My elders in rural South Dakota have been calling it out for some time as well, especially the racist aspect of it, which reassures what I’ve thought all along, they are such good, decent people at heart and in action, despite the limitations of their cultural experiences in life. We are taught to hate, what greater weakness could a human possess than hatred.
More anecdotal evidence of this attitude about the media, my 60+ year old cousin who would like to be more informed about politics and is pretty apolitical asked me for more information about the President, she told me that she is sick and tired of the media and their need to offer their own opinions about everything, she said she doesn’t need to be told what she just heard with her own ears.
See wisdom does come with age. Be sure to help her out. I should just print up a information source list…seems like I am always handing out lists to our friends and family, telling them where to go for facts and information that is.
Nintendowii10, I know you are so right I use to live in Newport News and we know a real storm when we see one .They can say what they want when a storm hits Hampton Roads and The James River area you feel it all the way to Richmond.
Yes, case in point – tragically a 9 year old boy was killed in Newport News – tree fell on his residence – this storm is nothing to play with.
Louc1 So sorry to hear that my GODS Hand Of Grace Be With The Family ,Our Prayers go out to all.
Louc1, I am praying so hard, and now I ask God to please comfort this family. We do not understand everything, but our hurt is still so human. May comfort go forth to this precious family. HZ
Even though it has weakened, it’s still a dangerous storm. In my area we will be getting tropical storm conditions, but at the shores and in NYC….no, even if the media did hype this up, there is still a lot to be concerned about.
And this will not be a response like Katrina. If anything, they’re ready for this, or as ready as they can be.
Overhyped? Any time the US Navy sends ALL it’s ships to sea, including submarines, it’s SERIOUS! The wind, waves and tide would do irreparable damage if the vessels stayed in port. Right now the sailors aboard aren’t having a picnic either.
I’m praying for those Sailors! I was a civilian employee of the Navy for 30 years, and they’re still in my heart.
Be safe, Ann_T!!
Thank you Meta. I’m worried about my brothers. They live closer to the Cheasapeake Bay. High risk area. I’m about 70 miles west of them-moderate risk area. I just hope we do not lose power. (fingers crossed). I’m also worried about folks in NY & NJ. Hope people are heeding the warnings.
Ann, please know that a lot of people are praying, thinking good thoughts, meditating on powerful thoughts and these are coming your way. I have been in prayer asking for grace, protection, and mercy for all of my brothers and sisters in our country who are in harms way of this hurricane. All of you are my brothers and sisters, I feel. I have my candles burning in my home with my music. We will pray, wait ,and prayfully hope for the best. So, I will keep you and your brothers in my prayers and thoughts, okay. Be as calm in your spirit as you possibly can. I too have a loving brother right on the edge of the water in another state, two nieces on the water, and two great nieces in the same position. I grew up in an area with severe hurricanes, and trust me, I know how you must be feeling now. But take as much space that you need to shed tears, be a little frighten, but hope and pray as you ask for what your family will need. Ok. I love you ,and I am praying for you and all of the families who are in the path of this hurricane. It is nothing to play with at all. Be as calmn as you can. Much love to you and all of the families. HZ
Amen, HZ. How are you?
I am better today, Lisa. When I get upset, it is painful, but I am praying and hoping for a better day. So far, so good. I am grateful. Thanks so much my dear one for asking. I love you all so much. HZ
So glad you are feeling well today. I’ll keep you in my prayers, HZ, you’re one of the best.
Thank you so much Lisa. You all are the best.HZ
Thank you prettyfoot58. We are all so bless to have Chipsticks and our TOD family here. We will continue to be a blessing to each other.HZ
“A candle never loses it’s light while lighting another candle.” That reminds me of HZ, always sharing her light, You bless us HZ, I am praying for your better days as well.
That is so beautiful and true Sue. Thank you for your prayers for me. I am still trusting in using the wisdom that I ask for daily. It works for me. Love you, Sue and my TOD family.HZ
stay safe Ann
Good to see you Fred. I was thinking about you yesterday. Take care of yourself and you stay safe as well.HZ
good to see you as well HZ.Was thinking of you too my friend.I hope all is going well with you.My last treatment is this coming Monday but unfortunately it looks like it isn’t working as it should have kicked-in 3 weeks ago.So the doctor might try another combination but she isn’t sure it will work either.PLEASE take care as well and stay safe.
Fred, thanks for sharing. I will continue to keep you with my spirit to carry a candle of strength, wisdom to your doctors, and comfort and a break through for you. Keep your heart on the best is still coming. Much love to you,HZ
Stay safe Ann. I’m in MD too. Prayers coming your way.
Yes, and you as well Doris. Candles lit and music playing. My prayers cometh forth to all of my family members on TOD who are in this path of this hurricane. HZ
Thank you dear HZ.
President Obama demonstrates once again what real leadership looks like. Smart and efficient government working for the common good.
The antithesis of this is Boehner and Cantor threatening to hold disaster funding hostage. I can not put into words how repulsive these two are. It’s just shameful. I sincerely hope they get an earful about this. But sadly, the GOP has already demonstrated that they can not be shamed or embarrasses about their reprehensible behavior.
John Boehner and Eric Cantor May Hold Aid For Hurricane Victims Hostage
There should not even be a discussion about the provision of disaster aid. Millions of taxpaying Americans are going to be impacted by this hurricane. Why do they pay taxes if they can’t count on their government to provide aid after a natural disaster? Our government has a duty to protect and aid its citizens, and those members of Congress who don’t wish to do their duty, are in my opinion violating their oath of office.
It is unfathomable that John Boehner and Eric Cantor would have to dodge questions about whether or not they are going to play politics with the victims of a hurricane. The fact that they would even consider politicizing disaster relief should prove to the American people that they are unfit for any leadership position in our government.
Boehner & Cantor are not just unfit for leadership, they’re unfit for office, period. Their disdain for America should be the headline in every newspaper across America.
Cantor’s constituents might well be affected by this. Politically boneheaded all around.
The trolls on HP are already complaining the President is grandstanding. As someone said if he walked on water they would say he does not know how to swim.
they can kiss it. If he hadn’t gone, they would be complaining that he was Bush 43 with brown skin, vacationing while disaster befell the American people. They are never satisfied so they can go suck on a raw egg for all I care.
Raw egg?…..they can go to the toilet and suck whatever’s in there!…bastards!!.
Good grief :X
NJ Gov. Christie actually thanked PBO a short time ago. I guess they will say Christie was on top of things and showing what a leader he is. I call it doing his job. Like a leaders should in serious situations.
Christie better watch out. FL’s former governor Charlie Crist greeted PBO at the airport once, one of the reasons he lost the Republican nomination and Senatorial election to wolf-in-a-cherub-face Marco Rubio.
I’m no fan of Christie, but I give him a lot of credit for being serious about this and being forthright. He’s not taking any chances with this. I’m also glad he thanked the President too.
Well, Christie’s probably also trying to make up for the fact that he was at Disneyworld during the last storm, refused to come home, and abdicated his responsibility to a member of the opposite party without bothering to call home. Meanwhile, Christie’s party and the useless media demanded that the President come home even though he had demonstrably taken care of every precaution.
lol you are right about that theo67
Optics again Wish we could put that canard to rest! This is for those boneheads…….go stand on the shore and stay there until you are swept out of our lives.
Poor Janet looks tired, she’s a warrior and we don’t give her enough credit. For every crisis that PBO has endured, she is always right in the middle of it all too. Good job to Janet too.
She is a faithful servant of the people as well. We do need to write them more and thank them. I am not telling anyone how to live their lives, but if you are one who enjoys lifting up this Administration, drop a line or give a call and thank them. Just another way to give support to our President. HZ
I really, really like and respect Janet. I bet they are running on high octane energy……crisises can really wind a person up.
Hope she will get the respite she is going to need and deserves.
An Obama Supporter Strikes Back: Points in Defense of the President:
This is a bit long…but worth the read. (didn’t want to post the link)
Regarding those Obama supporters who have now taken the World Wide Web by storm complaining about what President Obama isn’t doing, hasn’t done or isn’t going to do…I have some food for thought.
If you go back and listen to some of Obama’s early speeches before his election, he said in nearly every speech that “change is not going to be easy” and that “it’s not going to happen overnight” but I think many of us were way too busy listening to the sound of our own clapping to hear any of that.
Obama came into office with a wrecked economy, high unemployment and debt and 2 wars and 2 1/2 years in people are already trying to call him a failure. Bush came into office in peacetime with a budget surplus and we gave him 8 whole years to earn that label. What’s wrong with that picture?
Do I wish Obama would be more confrontational from time to time, sure but that is not who we elected. Democrats had a choice between a hawk (Hillary) and a dove (Obama) in 2008 and they chose the dove. Now you want the dove to act like a hawk and you’re mad at HIM that it’s not in his nature. That’s like asking a cat to bark like a dog and then getting mad at the cat when he meows! What drives me crazy is that people on the Left act like Obama has somehow changed in the last 2 years. This is who he is and who he has always been. THIS is who we voted for and now we want to act like we got blindsided!
Remember during the 2008 campaign (both primary and general election) when people kept saying that Obama should fight back more, be more “in your face” and get mad. He never did…and he WON, because that’s what we said we wanted. After 8 years of George W. Bush, we said we wanted calm and compromise…and that’s what we got. Remember how much we parroted the label, “No Drama Obama”? Obama’s never been about conflict, he’s always been about compromise and those who act now like they’ve been betrayed were only ‘hearing’ what he said but were not ‘listening’ to what he said…there IS a difference.
And to all those African-Americans who have now taken to the streets to decry what they allege is Obama’s lacking in the Black community, I still say we are the most unrelenting and unfair when it comes to our own. Bill Clinton (who cut welfare and food stamps) was proudly dubbed by many African-Americans (including 2 of Obama’s biggest critics, Tavis Smiley and Cornel West) as the nation’s “first Black President” but Obama (who is our REAL first Black President) is not Black enough! Really?
As far as I can tell, Obama has not strayed much from what he said he would do in 2008. Yes he has done more compromising than he (or us) probably thought he would but it is what it is…he is not a king. But Obama’s premise has stayed pretty much the same. People want to shout about Afghanistan, but he always said he would increase troops in Afghanistan. People want to shout about single-payer healthcare, but Obama never said he would enact single-payer health care. People want to shout about DOMA, but Obama has always been honest about his mixed feelings about gay marriage. People want to shout about the extension of the Bush tax cuts, but fail to remember that out of that deal came the repeal of DADT. People want to shout about him not doing anything for Black America, but I guess increasing funding for HBCU’s(http://www.blackenterprise.com/2010/03/01/obama-signs-order-boosting-hbcu-funding/), expanding SBA programs for minority-owned businesses and increasing Pell Grants for low-income families means nothing.
We talk about how Republicans always seem to succeed where Democrats fail, well one way they do that is by sticking together through thick and thin. Republicans stuck by Bush during his term no matter what, but Democrats always seem to be looking for the nearest bus to throw our representatives under.
I asked myself recently, what have I done since President Obama’s been in office to help make his Presidency a success and to help move forward his agenda and my answer did not make me proud. Have I attended any town hall meetings to voice my political concerns? Have I placed any calls or written to my representatives in Congress to voice my support (or objection) for any legislation? Have I made any donations (no matter how small) to Obama or the DNC since January 20, 2009? Have I volunteered in any of my local campaign offices or elections to help send lawmakers to Washington who could help the President?
I think far too many of us were overly obsessed with the thought of making history with the first Black President and thus our vision of happiness and success was very narrow. Once we helped get Obama into office, we thought “Mission Accomplished!”, moved on and never looked back. I think the thought that this man might actually have to legislate and govern (and God forbid…compromise) never even entered our minds. I know that I could have done a whole lot more in the past 2 years in advocacy for the President’s policies and I think many of us who voted for him could probably say the same thing.
We spent so much time focusing on the Obama we wanted that when the Obama we actually voted for showed up, we didn’t even know him. Obama’s views didn’t change once he became President…maybe ours did!
So ask yourself this the next time you find yourself complaining about what your President has not done in the past 2 years, “what have I done in the past 2 years to help my President?” The answer just may surprise you and we just might find out that the real problem may not be all about the President’s record, it may be about our record as well!
*And just for good measure, let’s check out that “hasn’t done anything for me” claim. I’m sure most of us can find something on this list that benefits us…right?
Oh, Kasai. Thank you, thank you, thank you so, so much. This article was beautiful.
You welcome Lisa….:-)
Thanks so much for this Kasai. It was a fantastic read. Is there anyway for you to provide us with the link? I would like to tweet this. It deserves to be read by many people. If there is no way to provide the link, then it’s all good; it’s still a brilliant article.
Here it is..hope this works
Kasai, thanks for posting this. I have said this very thing to friends all this week. I will continue to plead with those who want a great read on President Obama. The book is a must, please. The name is: ‘Reading Obama’ by James T. Kloppenberg. Please get a copy for the holidays or a couple and share it as a gift as well. It is well written, and it is our President. Please, please get your copy. You will not regret it, I promise you all. HZ Listen:”Obama is not just a powerful speaker, but a thinker engaged with the ideas of his country and his age-this argument by historian James Kloppenberg should therefore fascinate anyone interested in American politics or how ideas shape public life. Tracing the influences of Obama’s family, educational, and work experiences on his ideas. “Reading Obama” locates a unique individual in the crosscurrents of American democracy and continuing fights over American ideals.” Martha Minow, Harvard Law School “In the arresting, highly informative book, Kloppenberg shows how Obama was shaped by the intellectual debates of the 1980s and is thus the first president since Wodrow wilson to deeply absorb and act upon the most sophisticated social theories of his generation.” David Hollinger, Univesity of California, Berkeley “Reading Obama” strikingly illuminates the man, enriching our sense of his intellectual formation and committments and significantly deepening our understanding of his place in history. In the face of the hyper=partisan atmosphere of the moment, this book reminds readers of the enduring force of an alternative tradition in the American past, and sketches that tradition with care and persuasion.” Daniel T. Rodgers, Princeton University.
should be: Woodrow Wilson
Thank you so much HZ for the info.
Hope your day is going well and feeling good.:-).I will look it up and read it… I always appreciate your words of hope, optimism and wisdom.
with gratitude thanks again HZ
Thank you Kasai. You have given us all so many gems to ponder over, this was another one. So true. I hope you will be able to find and read the book. I am hanging in here with all that I have. Thanks for asking.HZ
Fabulous! I know you said you didn’t want to link this…but this is one that I would want to keep. Change your mind????? Thanks for this. Pretty much right on target:)
there you go Desert:-)
Thank you sooo much. i hope you don’t mind if i copy this to some of my e-mail buds that don’t tweet.(Bunch of old heads.)
Help yourself yardarm756…:-)
Re-posted from the previous thread.
MSNBC is showing video of PBO at FEMA HQ’s in D.C. He’s asking questions, asking different local and state govt officials what they need. Craig Fugate, Janet Napolitano, Bill Daley and others are around the roundtable. It’s freaking awesome. He’s asking about what preparations they have in place, what materials they need. There’s multiple screens in the room and he’s talking to each and every local govt official in the states that are affected. He’s telling them that the administration is 100% behind them. All of them are thanking him for his help, his administration’s swift response, his leadership on the hurricane preparedness measures. He’s telling them that he told Sec of Defense Leon Panetta to send down about 6400 additional active duty National Guards. They’re thanking him again. They’re now thanking him for actually coming down to the HQ’s and talking to them in person. They’re thanking him for reassurring them. Friggin awesome! President Obama is a natural born leader.
Proud to say my new state of Illinois has already sent many of our National Guard to the east coast.
How lucky are we to even have a National Guard after the way they were used and abused by Bush?
You are so right.
OMG…that’s wonderful news! He just continues to do the people’s work…with passion and more commitment to doing the right thing than I have ever seen in my life.
You are so correct, UT. “A born leader with a deep compassion that is so visible with assurance.” Grateful for this President’s use of wisdom, love, care, and always with intellect. We are so blessed.HZ
He cares so much that sitting in the oval office and getting updates wasn’t good and satisfying for him, and while he at it he kills the number 2 Terrorist on his way to FEMA headquarters. While speaker Tangerine and Toddler are playing games with real lives. Perry – Bachman 2012, lord help us.
WOW!!!! Chris Cristy just THANKED the President for all his help in the upcoming storm. He held a press conference a few minutes ago and THANKED the President FIRST…before saying anything else.
OK, I’ll give Christie credit for THAT.
If your initials are C.C and there is a ‘Crist..’ somewhere in it and you’re a republican governor, you better not thank, shake or hug Obama. Chris, just ask Charlie!…..LOL.
You are so right!
Who cares. Seriously. Like any typical modern-day Repub, when it effects them personally then it’s worthy to them, but when it’s poor kids that they’ll never meet – screw ‘em! GOP = Got Ours, Piss-off.
Until that hypocritical dipshit demonstrates even the slightest bit of concern for poor children and helps them rather hurts them, he can take his “thank you” and shove it up his….ummm… personal helicopter’s tailpipe.
Ok, don’t take this personally, but I need to see a video of this thank-you. These days, I find it very difficult to believe that a Republican would thank the President for anything.
Many juicy tidbits to read:) http://www.winningprogressive.org/weekend-reading-list-41
Lisa’s Baby Daddy Chris Christie just thanked President Obama for job well Done. Well we can say goodbye FINALLY of him running for President though I feel sad Lisa won’t be our First BabyMaMa.
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW:( Too bad!
Hahahahahahahahahaha Me4obama that’s just messed up. Lisa will pimp slap you for calling her Christie’s baby mama. That’s like calling her Mankini Newt’s baby mama. OMG….. I’m almost choking from laughter.
Christie is more like baby daddy AND baby mama. Wonder when his due date is………. this is one long ass pregnancy.
I thought Lisa & I were fighting over Larry O & Mayor Booker…..
Tally, you know me. I like to have a rolodex of good looking men……….. fortunately, Christie still hasn’t made the cut. Lord love him, but I don’t like ugly, in looks or personality,
Oh, Mayor Booker…
Tally and Lisa, “Lay off of my main man, Larry O.” Now I need to speak with you ladies about my wonderful son, Mayor Corey Booker. Permission needed to even think about him, okay ladies. Talk with me.HZ
Oh Mamma! that son of yours (Corey) hmmmmmm!
Okay GGail. I will have a talk with you as well about my baby.HZ
you are too hilarious Me4obama
hahahahahhahahahhahahhahahahhahahahhahahhahahhahahhahahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahha!!!!!!! Me4, you will never let me live this Chris Christie think down will you? I laughed so hard when I saw this comment. I was on the previous thread when I read the comment UT reposted here and immediately flipped to MSNBC, just in time to see Christie thank PBO. I was shocked and tagged on to UT’s comment, reporting how he said thanksto PBO first and how grateful he was for the money PBO made available to him. I think I said something about how the GOP only appreciate PBO when he’s either saving their butts or giving them money. I was just glad he thanked MY main man: PBO.
LOL…That’is so not right…..but is funny as hell!
Oh Lord, that’s cold Me4. So sorry Lisa, we got your back girlfriend. Whew, LOL.
tehe. Me4 and I are in a dead heat in the competition for bragging rights to PBO. She fights dirty yes, but I wouldn’t want it any other way cause I fight for keeps and if we are competing, I don’t want to win by technicality. When I do my ‘In Your Face’ song and dance, I want to do it knowing Me4 gave her all and I won fair and square
let me get my popcorn readyyyy
Lisa, have you been whispering in his ear? Don’t bite the hand that feeds you Baby Daddy!
I’m glad he thanked the President, it was the appropriate and decent thing to do. Decent and Republican, that’s an oxymoron.
oxymoron is right. Emphasis on the ‘moron’, Sue. But hey, every dog has his day.
I trust your taste in men Lisa, and know you like a hefty supply of them. Not sure what the current count is but I KNOW that elephant ain’t one of them.
Sue, you are too much, but I love it. HZ
Republicans are the elephant party…right
Aww poor Pookie Bear can’t get some rest without being interupted :(. I was looking at the coverage on CNN and he looked so worry and tired or maybe sad I don’t know. God bless him. Hope everyone here who maybe affected is safe and sound. I never experience a hurricane neither a storm so I can only imagine. It’s raining heavily where I live and thunder is reallyyyy pounding along with some severe lightening flashes. The place is pitch dark with powerful wind. I am nervous and it’s not even a storm imagine you all. Praying for PBO as well as everyone bracing for the storm/hurricane.
I just said a prayer for you, too, P!
hope you’re doing okay, P. Please take care.
I’m fine thank you. You do the same lisa
Be safe P and keep us posted.
be safe P
P, be as safe as possible. It is a fearful thing to be in a hurricane(I loved in them) but prayers are being said in my home for you and all who are in the path of this hurricane. I have very dear family in the path of it as well. Try to be as calm as you can, it will help. HZ
Check out the fema.gov website. It’s chock full of information and declarations. Well laid out website.
Used to visit a lot of .gov sites for my previous freelance job, and I’ve noticed most/all are updated beautifully since PBO took the helm. Even the White House site under GWB used to be boring as hell.
I think it was basically an Information Free Zone. Oh yeah, that and Laura’s china collection.
Ron Paul says that we do not need FEMA
I say we do not need Ron Paul.
I second that for sure Jacquelineoboomer.HZ
There are more trolls on HP complaining about President Obama’s involvement than comments complimenting him. I cannot decide if HP is now part of the PL or FOX.
Probably a little of both. Can’t believe I used to fall for Arianna’s intentions, and visit that site regularly. No more.
I’ve probably posted this before, but…I had a friend from CA years back who knew AH well. I told the friend that perhaps Ms H has seen the light. Friend said “a leopard does not change her spots. DO NOT TRUST HER!”
Your friend was right!
The commenters on Huffington Post use such vile, vitriolic, hateful language towards President Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and even the First Daughters. When I saw that comments using verbally abusive messages towards the young girls were being allowed, I just felt sick. Arianna knows exactly what she is doing and I’d just like her to know that Karma is a bitch.
I think we should start bringing this issue up on twitter.
Why does HP allow posters to verbally trash and abuse Obama young daughters? It’s time we hold this lady accountable for the trash her site peddles.
That is a wise campaign. The standards at the Huffington Post reflect on Arianna.Period. In what civil society is trashing and abusing children appropriate. I say shine the light, they need to clean up their moderation and their act.
Their moderation is a joke, they give the moderation ability to certain posters, which even includes Teapug trolls.
A blog that allows posters to self moderate is an epic failure, I say let them suffer the consequences.
We can hold up a light on HP as a first move, but then our second move must be not to visit the site. Evah. As hard as that is.
I agree, shine the light on the cockraoches and stay away. They will end up a contaminated waste site.
I left a long time ago, and I agree they have been Obama bashing since day one. Arianna Huffington is a true Republican, money is her master, and a nasty piece of white trash.
Not very charitable today
The moderators are also very rude and unprofessional, especially in the manner in which they ban folks. They banned me several times for exposing the Teapugs hypocrisy, but they allow the Teapug trolls free reign, and then there’s the emoprog whining about President Obama being a sellout right wing Republican Wall Street DLC puppet.
And then folks had the NERVE to post there that the media was overhyping this hurricane, easy for them to say because they aren’t the ones being hit or affected.
UT, you are so right. “Karma is a bite you B…. everytime.
I stopped going there….its turned into trollville, even more so since they merged with AOL.
HP has always been anti-Obama from Inauguration Day going forward. But they’ve become explicitly pro-GOP since the AOL purchase.
Agree 100%. And many of us, myself included, fell for it early on.
Sorry – I didn’t express myself correctly – I didn’t fall for the anti-Obama bashing or pro-GOP stuff. I fell for the fact that HP would remain libruuul, even if they included a few RW posts.
I stopped reading HuffPo years ago. I saw that move to the right long before the AOL purchase. I remember loud red alerts going off in my head when I heard Arianna on TV talking some nonsense about “its beyond left and right”. I knew she was up to something because she kept repeating it everywhere she went.
HP is leaning to the right. That’s where Arianna came from.
We are seeing history Me4Obama…..This man is on a mission…He can get rid of OBL..and Al-Queda..take care of disasters at home…protect democracy in the Middle East…and so on…If America can’t see leadership in PBO….they never will…
Absolutely Kasai, this Great Man’s Leadership is on Full display for the whole world to see. Also “Big Government” is in charge of people’s Lives and Safety..
We are able to watch history take place right before our own eyes. What a leader indeed. I am grateful for his leadership everyday that I am alive.HZ
President Obama had a conference call with governors on the east coast yesterday to be sure they had everything they needed from the federal government.
Obama visits FEMA command center for storm update
Obama said that when he discussed the situation Friday with governors and mayors, he asked if they could think of anything else they needed. “There was quiet on the phone and that was a good sign,” the president said.
Glad he is on top of this, cares and is visible … Shows a stark difference between Democrats and Rethugs who could care less and think gov has no role in national emergencies. Obama 2012
Hey tweeters – I need some help here. Right wing blog http://www.politicolnews.com/rick-perrys-stem-cell-treatment/ is lying about PBO’s’ stem cell executive order – and the proof is here: http://stemcells.nih.gov/
Can you help me tweet the truth and call this guy out for LYING. There is a twitter button on his article – then you can put that GOV link in your tweet to prove the lie.
Okey dokey Tally.
I got a reaction from the blogger. Accused me of being uneducated about Rick Perry putting adult stem cells into his own body, so I pointed out that I was talking about the lies about Obama’s position. Sad.
Thanks so much for jumping in. He’s a douche. But I can’t stand by without calling out the lies. PISSES ME OFFFF!!!
LOVE these photos of POTUS & his team. We’re in extremely capable hands here. LOL meanwhile the grandstanders, haters, et.al., are busy wasting energy on foolishness.
Newport VA – 11 year old boy killed after tree fell on his apartment. SAD, very sad. May he RIP.
Oh Lord no. So sorry. God Bless his family.
And folks have the nerve to whine about the media “overhyping” this hurricane. People’s lives have already been taken, that’s how serious this is!
Oh, no. My prayers are with his family.
Judging from all the comments here of people feeling good or calmed seeing obama on the news or with his team in these pictures, I’d say StR has been vindicated for his comments yesterday.
We really must work on mastering the art of sticking together. I think it’s safe to say we are all ‘in’ for 2012.
not trying to rehash old stuff, just eould like to see us not demonize each other for different points of view.
heading to music fest. Everyone stay safe . We are all relations
LunarSea – Civility is key. I don’t feel there’s cause or the need to say StR was vindicated, because some agreed and some disagreed with him/her. That – to my ears – is like saying President Obama came home early to vindicate StR and the Republicans. I personally don’t believe that. So I moved on.
Don’t know if I’m expressing myself right, but all of us are sharing our personal opinions and getting called on some of them … which is, after all, how we are reminded to keep an open mind about stuff. How we learn from each other, or how we validate our own thoughts and opinions, or how we learn to take a stand and be knowledgeable enough to try to convince others in the future to reach our same conclusions – as we will throughout the campaign. If there’s no changing some minds, then we can all just move on.
Many of us get into these type of discussions with family members, too! I agree we are all “in” for 2012, and should stick together!
Well he’s not live blogging with binoculars off the South Portico of the White House so you must be disappointed.
You know what StR, I have NEVER before intervened in the vocal ‘fights’ that occur, but this response is so contrary to the tone being espoused by Jacque and so uncalled for! Are we adults or aren’t we? Yesterday I read the back and forth and thought ‘Thank God my teenager is not exposed to this’ because IMO some of it was so …… infantile. I sure hope we’re not going to go there again today. To everyone involved in this particular discussion (if such we can call it) the President is back and he is attending to business… as he was doing while on vacation! Can we leave it there? Some of us who visit this site regularly really do not like confrontation, especially the kind that really goes nowhere! Geesh!
Either you or I misread what Jacqueline meant with “Civility is key” than. If you read the thread yesterday you’d know the “live blogging with binoculars” remark was originally hers. She used it as an attempt to ridicule a point I made about heading back to Washington because he’d have use of the Situation Room while others were contending that President Obama had everything he needed in MV.
So is civility key all the time or only some of the times? Jacqueline was responding to a post made defending my argument yesterday and made the “civility is key” remark. Now I guess you take it as she was agreeing with LunarSea, essentially reiterating the point LunarSea had just made. I took it in the tenor of yesterdays remarks, where she was disagreeing with LunarSea seemingly claiming she took issue with my lack of civility more than the substance of the discussion yesterday. Given yesterday I just found that interesting which is why I referenced her snarky remark to essentially say “civility is a two way street”.
If it’s the former I’ll offer apologies to Jacqueline. As you can see by the time stamp that I replied to the lies in the post below first, so maybe that’s why I read it as another attack.
Now I do question why you’ve decided to reply to my post to I guess make your larger point about infantility and hoping there isn’t a continuation from yesterday when if you looked at time stamps you’d see that I didn’t make one reply in this thread until others brought up the same arguments again with lies to smear.
It was a joke,, StR you are being passive agrressive, which is what you registered upset at others for yesterday. Can we get beyond this.
Let’s agree to disagree, and discuss differences with the goal of expanding our perspectives, not for the need to be deemed right.
It was sarcasm.
I can accept that, but in my world, and you don’t have to agree with me, sarcasm is a form of condescension when aimed at another individual.
I am done with this topic. I do look forward to future discussions, you bring interesting perspectives, and speaking for myself, I am always looking for ways in which to improve my skills in discussing politics.
I’m sorry, but I respectfully disagree. Str isn’t vindicated in anyway. President Obama didn’t come back early because of optics. No one knows if he had already decided to come back early and just hadn’t informed the media, because for a while the media was saying he would come back on Friday, then they said Saturday and then they said Friday again. Zizi and others made a very salient point yesterday. When President Obama decides to go get something as normal as ice cream, there are many different mechanisms at play. The route they’ll use, assembling staff and security, choosing the location, securing the location, etc. It’s not like anyone of us just jumping in our car and going to get ice cream. President Obama could have decided to come back early, because maybe he realized that many members of his staff who were with him on MV live in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia and would have to secure their homes from the approaching hurricane. Maybe he realized that they have family members whom they would like to contact and make sure they are safe. It is not always about optics. When someone like Str or others try to peddle the meme that 99% of everything President Obama does is optics driven, that just paints President Obama in a derogatory light. As though he’s so shallow, that everything has to be optics driven. He went to the FEMA Headquarters to make sure that his administration is doing everything they can to make sure they’re 100% prepared with all supplies needed for this hurricane. He went to FEMA because he knows that without adequate preparation, millions of peoples lives are in danger. He did NOT go to FEMA for optics.
Nice strawman. Too bad I didn’t claim 99% optics, far from it. But once again you don’t want to let the facts get in the way of your fantasies. Just like you lied and claimed I was against the vacation all along and I rebutted that lie was posts to the contrary.
A post I made on Thursday that was in a reply to my original post on this matter
August 25, 2011 at 5:12 pm in “Hooptastic”
America is more than just what you see on pundit television. Coming home early could help get the message out about the serious and size of the storm, could put focus on FEMA and disaster preparedness. I think he needs to be in the White House when this hits, there can’t be images of him departing MV at the end of his vacation the same time as N.Carolina is getting blasted. That would be akin to the Bush giving McCain the cake pic that we all love to throw in the GOP’s face.
It would also let the MV place he’s staying at secure itself for the hurricane, as I’m sure all the locals are probably running into trouble with the SS presence. Not to mention how many SS members live in NOVA? Have families to worry about and houses to worry about?
Huh, coming home would help get the message out about the seriousness and size of the storm and put the focus on FEMA. Also mentioned the Secret Service Members who like in NOVA and their families and houses (I’d guess you could group in his other staffers into this concern about the SS and their families).
I even remarked that the President could use the situation room (which has been used in the past to monitor hurricanes) when somebody mentioned that he could do the exact same job, get the exact same information on MV as he could get in DC, and the FEMA HQ looks a helluva lot like what one would imagine the Situation Room would look like.
I see upthread that you really seemed to enjoy the presser and the pictures. Of course you do.
I really wish people would stop parroting that stupid PL Republican driven optics garbage on this site. This is NOT what we are about. This is NOT what the President is about. If people want to peddle that nonsense their are many site available to do that.
Is it already Festivus? I mean since we’re airing of grievances I have one – If I wanted to know what Ed Shultz, or Keith Olberman or Morning Joe was saying I’d watch those shows.
you called it right aristac They are not fooling anyone
My fatigue was with “Obama needs to do….” regardless of which side it originates. I would also
like to see sourcing done on “negative” commentary and /or reports to preempt needless concern
with all due respect to StR but he cannot possibly think that the President;with all due respect to him as I love him to death can show Craig Fugate how to do his job? had the President not been there;the job would have been done and done well regardless.
Tthe President;Fugate;Napolitano and the Administration people got ready ahead of time and made sure to be in direct contact with Governors and the Mayors from the States that were on the path of Irene and got all the help they needed again;ahead of time ;that’s why nobody is bitching about it
Where did I claim that President Obama would show Mr. Fugate how to do his job? The job would have been done without President Obama there – but we live in a visual world and I’m equally sure there wouldn’t have been as much press or coverage of FEMA HQ if the President wasn’t there.
I agreed with you yesterday. Completely. He didn’t come back for the optic – he’s not like that – but the optic matters. A lot. Especially when he has no one in the media telling the truth about him. I’m glad he came back and went to FEMA today.
BWD he didn’t do any of these activities until today so what really was the issue? He would have gone to FEMA when he returned at 11 anyway because you are right that is who he is.
How do you feel about his daughters and wife getting the short end of the stick when we force them to make further unnecessary sacrifices for folks more worried about optics vs. supporting the man and his right to spend time with family? How much down time do you think Malia and Sasha got with their father during this scheduled 10 day vacation? PO was working on the situation going on in Libya, prepping for Hurricane Irene, was in talks and received security briefings daily with members of his administration while dealing with the remaining issues facing this country. What would it have caused us to support the man and let him spend the remaining 6 to 12 hours of his short hiatus on a Friday afternoon with his family? How is it that folks have no problems deciding that they want to take unlimited breaks to recharge or take their own hiaitus but have issues with the President being allowed to spend precious little time to recharge with his own family?
How much more sacrifices should he and his family be required to make and for what cause? Those girls are growing up and fast and they deserve time with their father. It is sentiments like these that pushes me in the opposite direction and makes me more open to President Obama not being elected in 2012. Folks do not deserve him and need to recognize he isn’t our Daddy.
Woooo….nospin, I love your nospin….LOL. There is just no argument to be made against your comments. People, i.e., America needs to grow the hell up. BWD, I’m glad he’s back too, and went to FEMA, but only for he and his family’s safety, as well as the staff. His being at FEMA is a good thing, but as I stated elsewhere, it is a bonus. He did just fine from MV……I was very assured hearing him speak as though he was on top of things. Couldn’t ask for more than that. His kids do deserve quality time with their dad and that should be considered as well as anything.
The President must disagree with you because he made the decision to leave early and it wasn’t for safety concerns, so obviously he though he needed to be back in Washington for the better access and amenities he has there.
It really does not matter “why” he came back. I and others simply disagreed with you that he “needed” to be back. It was always his personal decision to make, not yours or anyone else’s. He’s a grown ass man and surely does not need for us to tell him what looks good. If you were concerned because of the way it looked, then that is okay, but don’t confuse it with a general concensus. Now, are we all done with this “optics” discussion. You can beat something to death to the point it becomes moot. You got your cookie, StR. Please move on to something we can all discuss reasonably, before my power goes out. Every East Coaster, please be safe.
I agree to StR. I also know you are a true supporter of President Obama as are the others. I do agree also with BWD that optics matter and this optic with President Obama at Fema, not to mention his expression of appreciation to the workers at FEMA who have been at it for many, many hours, was needed. We take these people for granted.
It’s all good. Our president knows the right thing to do.
Forgive me, and I know you mean well, but StR stresses more than that about PBO and his simple electability on various fronts. Therefore, I stand by my assertion that PBO would have been on top, was on top, regardless of location. Not only that, his appearance at FEMA headquarters is an extra bonus of his ability to multi-task; however, I was pleased with his address from MV. Note in comments here about opposition bashing him on optics WHILE he is on-hand, so it would not have mattered what the hell he did. Haters are gonna hate. I was much comforted hearing his voice yesterday, as I’m sure many others were. But, your kind words are much appreciated.
Thank you EDP4BHO. The whole “he’s doing this for optics and he came back early from MV because of optics” is so false. It is a PL meme that can be seen on HP and other firebagger sites and for Str to label PBO with that meme is not only disingenious but completely ridiculous. NOTHING he ever does is good enough for some people. NOTHING. He didn’t come back for optics and he didn’t go to FEMA for optics. If one had followed this President from the beginning, one would realize he’s a very hands on person who wants to know at all times that he and those around him are doing their 100% best. If this President was concerned about “optics” he wouldn’t have gotten very far in his political and personal life. The PL never rests. There’s always something about President Obama that bugs them. There’s always something that President Obama falls short of in their eyes. It’s all hogwash.
Right on, UT!
Optics DO matter. but we know PBO gets shit done, whether before or behind the cameras
Flashback: As Katrina hit, McCain celebrated 69th birthday with Bush.
If the President wasn’t concerned about optics he would have never got elected. And you keep trying to make the argument that I said it was all about optics which is a lie. But yet you keep trying to run with it.
The President decided it was prudent to come back yesterday. The deputy press secretary said it wasn’t because of safety reasons. So why did he come back early? To be “hands on”? So that means you disagree with the argument that he had everything he needed in MV that is being made by some here? That he felt he needed to be back in Washington to be more hands on?
People like Str are tiring…..everything the President does has a purely political reason behind…oh he just went to FEMA for the optics, he just came back for the optics, he just did a press conference because of the optics….NOT ever ackowledging the President is doing his job…..everything and I do mean everything this President does is never about him doing his job, always “optics”…
Point me where I said everything is optics? Point me to where I said he went to FEMA for the optics? I mean I understand it’s much easier to argue against a strawman, but let’s try and deal in facts here.
we know you love and support PBO 100%, StR. I think that’s the most important thing for all of us to remember.
Actually I would say it proved otherwise because nothing happened last night.
There was no need for the President to return to Washington last night because there was nothing for him to do that wasn’t already resolved. PO was due back at 11 a.m. today anyway and he could have spent the remaining hours as planned with his family.
That was the point.
It only made sense for the President, his family and large detail of support staff to be where they were going to be anyway — at the White House, so that precious focus and resources did not have to be directed toward his travel and away from where it would be potentially needed.
We act as if we’re disappointed because storms don’t play out based on media scripts.
Irene made landfall at 7:30am. That’s ultimately why it was important for President Obama to leave yesterday rather than arrive at 11am today. Because we saw the coverage of them leaving and landing last night – it would have been covered today just the same, however today it would have shared a split screen with footage of reporters trying to stand up to the hurricane winds and rain in NC.
Wow. You take a nap and all hell breaks loose.
StR – You are right. It was a joke meant to be fun – but sarcastic at the same time. Didn’t know you’d feel particularly targeted by it, although – since you were on the other side of the optics issue than I, and folks were coming at you from all sides – of course you would. I’ve sometimes been appreciated for having somewhat of a rapier wit, heavy emphasis on going for wit vice rapier, but probably should practice that last part more or save it for people I actually know. Or Republicans.
To everyone who understood what I thought were my good intentions in moving on and talking “civility”: Thank you.
And as I said above, if I read your response today incorrectly, and you are saying I did, than I too would apologize to you and I do. My issue really wasn’t with you and one-off remarks where 99 times out of a hundred I’d shrug it off, laugh it off or give it back. It was a case where I was taking on all comers and was just swinging away at all who were coming at me.
Hi StR, I’ve (mainly) stayed out of the to-and-fro between you and others the last couple of days, largely because I was sympathetic to elements of both arguments – so I thought it best to ‘mind my own’ and leave you all to battle it out.
At the risk of sounding like Ban Ki-moon on happy pills, I just would love if you could all agree to differ on this without bombing each other with snark.
StR, I can assure everyone, is no troll, I know that for certain because I keep a beady eye on all the comments here and weed out trolls when my radar picks them up – and trust me, that radar is hyper sensitive! StR is a supporter of the President, of that I have no doubt, so please everyone, even if you disagree violently with any of StR’s views, don’t question that sincerity.
Yep, the exchange degenerated in to a snark-fest, but keep on exchanging – it’s healthy. But just know that I’m on constant troll-watch here, so leave that to me and keep on discussing stuff without being nasty to each other. We’re all on the same side, okay?
WHAT CHIPS SAID!!!!
No go watch this for some perspective on the BIG PICTURE: (Which is to live, laugh, love.)
DO IT!! DO IT NOW!
fuck me. NOW go watch. I’m still sleepy…….
That has to be the funniest thing I’ve seen in quite some time. I’m off to send it to everyone I know. Still LMAO! Thanks for that.
Just returned from music fest and am surprised to find this somewhat lengthy back and forth. I haven’t read thru all the comments but perhaps I should clarify my post. I am absolutely NOT taking any sides here, just making sure MY statement isn’t misunderstood.
I don’t think Pres. Obama came back for the optics. That’s not how he rolls BUT the pictures of him meeting with FEMA reps did have a calming effect on people. This is per the comments I read and not something I am unilaterally assigning to anyone. While I would have rather he had another day in MV to finish his vacation, he chose not to. And no I’m not even going to try and second guess why he cut it short, he did. That is all. But there was no denying that while we know that he does what he does where ever he is, the pics of him leading had a soothing effect on people.
LOL Please don’t take this the wrong way but from where I sit Pres. Obama doesn’t need to do optics but optics do matter to many or we wouldn’t bring out the’ birthday cake during Katrina’ picture or the ‘people waving from the roof of buildings’ picture whenever we think of incompetent ‘leaders’. Those optics will haunt Bush forever.
Think about it…from here on in we can pull out the pic of Pres. Obana in the FEMA room with all the NOAH images on the screen behind him and surrounded by hard working ‘gubment’ people to throw in the face of teabaggers and rethugs to contrast the images from Katrina.
You just know they will be trying to spin this cause they know the optics don’t bode well for their ’cause’, whatever that is. So bottom line, relish the optics and use them to advantage. LMAO this will be too easy, no?
Like I said, I haven’t read all the comments and I’m not arguing the ‘need’ for optics, but you must admit the optics are darn good and we really need to use them. Hope this embed vid works:
He’s Barack Obama and he’s come to save the day across the USA
Epic embed fail – Just hit the link.
Ha, don’t talk to me about embed fails – I tried embedding in a test post earlier and this is what it looked like:
ladgdguwgd;gc gcug135931675378%*%*%*&%&(5ogldvagk,v 278e7&*%*%I
So, err, it didn’t work.
Oh wow, that’s like a language from another planet… Can’t imagine what went wrong…
I concur….didn’t work…. (^_^)
i was thinking about that Chrysler commercial….in which Emminem says about detroit….this is what they do…..
i can see the camera panning around the room….looking at each of the participants…then the camera focuses on the President…he turns to face the camera…and says…..This is Government and this is what we do!!!!!!!….
I like that thought pf58
I like that. really.
It’s so clear he relishes his job. What a great leader!
Wow!! Pretty..what a great idea:-) I like the ad with Emminem..they just don’t play it here as much.
I think since PBO rescued the auto industry, that would be an Awesome Awesome Commercial…
Does Rick Scott Cash In On Mandatory Drug Testing?
Gov. Rick Scott’s drug testing policy stirs suspicion
oh lawd! I want to caution everyone about the errm pictures …
Puerto Rico’s Sen. Roberto Arango, who chaired the local 2004 campaign to reelect George W. Bush,Puerto Rican Arango Caught Posting Nude Pics On Grindr
Good lawd Fred! How do you unearth these items??
WTH, LOL, this is too much.
Wow. Just um……wow. Politicians really need to stop taking nude pictures of themselves. First they preach against homosexuality, then their pictures are found on nude sites for gay men. Wow.
Saw this pixs yesterday and I can’t recall ever seeing such racy photos. These pols are such idiots.
Gar!!! You can’t see anything! They blurred the picture!
ps- but it’s always amusing how these people (politicians, especially those on the right), tend to screw themselves over while exposing themselves :snicker: as hypocrites.
Taking those pictures for weight loss? HA AHA HAH LOL!!! Anthony Weiner haz a sad because he didn’t think of that.
Holy crap. Can’t bring myself to click the link. Don’t want to be confronted with another ‘mankini’ type image but just knowing this is too much.
How the heck did they get away with claiming the mantle of ‘the party of values’ all these years? I mean we knew they weren’t but not even I could imagine they were THIS sleazy.
I’ve been following that story – let’s see if it get’s the WEINER TREATMENT.
Do he think he got lots of replies to those pic on that site? ::shiver::
What is so pathetic about this, is that this is old news. Old news that does not seem to stick to Rick Scott. For-profit medical clinics that paid the largest fine in Medicare fraud history, and this is who seniors elected in 2010 because Obama was going to end their Medicare.
I know all you can do is shake your head. I am amazed at the behavior people are willing to tease away from a person’s character, and pretend it’s ok, or worse that is doesn’t exist.
Is really hypocritical to say “We don’t need Big Government” or “Get Government out our business or “don’t touch my medicare/SS”
While your states begs PBO for funding in critical disastrous emergencies, while you get all your medical bills paid by the government and still collecting your monthly checks, while we have the national guards helping you recover from natural disaster….Would you please make up your mind???
Gheeeeeeeeeeeeshhhhhhhhhhh sick of your whining and bashing PBO while he’s out there working 24/7 to help your ignorant $@$@#$
Thank you Chipsticks very much for your diligent efforts to keep us updated on the Hurricane Irene situation. You’re AWESOME!
Yes she is. We appreciate everything you do Chips to keep us informed and updated. You’re the best. Love ya.
Wow – Did I just see a banner on CNN that said the hurricane mass is “the size of Europe”? Wow.
I saw that early this morning Ms. O’Boomer. I was shocked when they said that.
When I read that Irene was a thousand miles across I checked with an airline site to find out how far away Utah is from, say, Maryland and found it was 1,860 miles, 860 miles less than the distance from Maryland and Utah.. I called into the kitchen this amazing information, and got many laughs from my husband and daughter. I was just wondering that, if Irene was as big as Europe, could we possibly have a hurricane as big as the US. Alan said the Rockies would really slow it down.
But, you know, Irene isn’t the only big hurricane we’ve had. I remember one that a cartoonist used, making it bigger than the earth. Now I’ve got something to research — the last really big hurricane along the US seaboard. I wonder if it was Gloria.
That’s the EASTERN seaboard.
Let’s face it folks. President Obama is a restless soul, very hands on. What he does is who he always was, before we ever heard his name. Read his books, there’s no doubt he has immense curiosity. Seeing him at FEMA headquarters just shows how very seriously he takes his job. And that seriousness is translated in his public manner, so much that some think he is aloof. No, idiots, he is SERIOUS. I’m sure we all know people like him- they’re often called nerds. Well I for one am a nerd, which is why I find intellectual curiosity so sexy. To hell with optics…PBO is constantly in view. He has no need for further optics, and goes about his work with a great sense of purpose. Let’s shut this stupid optics discussion down. If only others were so concerned about how they appear in politics, just maybe PBO wouldn’t have such difficulty getting more done.
I totally agee with you EDP4BHO. I just watched the videos and you are looking at a REAL LEADER. Any criticism of him is nothing but envy and jealousy. He has presence and he lights up a room. He has a good soul.
Yes, he is the best, by far!
Thanks Chips. I swear seeing these videos give me an abundant amout of confidence that no matter the outcome of this storm that in the response and recovery phase of this thing we are in excellent hands with PBO at the helm.
Hey Donna, glad you are ok. You are right. PBO exudes confidence.
This makes me think about how meticulous President Obama was in selecting his staff and cabinet members. First and foremost, he looked for excellence. He has a team of brilliant and dedicated public servants. President Obama is destroying the myth that government can’t do anything right. He is making government cool again and this is the worst nightmare for the Republican Party.
When you look back at the Bush administration, there was an abundance of unqualified appointees. Cronyism incompetence ruled the day. The incompetence was just breathtaking and wide spread.
Wonder what Governor McDonnell and Eric Cantor are doing for the millions of VOTING citizens in VIRGINIA without ELECTRICITY , huh?
Praying that the Evil Government will be there with relief funds to help after the storm.
Thanks Chipsticks for this. It brings us together as a caring family and real supportors of President Obama.
This president does not need optics. His vision has already been well nurtured by his loving and extremely intelligent mother and father for that matter. I am sure during the many experiences as a young child, a young man, a young adult, then as a man all of those moments of his precious mother’s teachings and his nurturing grandparents common sense and showing of decency for others, he has managed to show us the fruits of their labor.. What better preparations and God given gifts does this President, Barack Obama need to prove to this nation that he is for real? If we buy into this MSM crazy conversation, then we really do not deserve such a beautiful gift.HZ
3 Unbelievable Rick Perry Quotes
Chris Matthews says Cheney got $34 million payday from Halliburton
Had this congressperson been a Dem this kind of response from his constituents would have been the #1 story on the network news and cable infotainment.
Thanks for the media Donna.
Crazy sells Donna and also those nuts at the Dems town halls were better for their ratings.
Here in this video you have an informed intelligent respectful constituent asking an intelligent question. The corporate media has no use for this, because after all they believe in what Grover is peddling.
Just saw some info that said that DC is about to enter its worst stretch with strongest wind and heaviest rain around DC probably 8 pm – 2 am. Stay safe, everyone.
Thanks Meta, hadn’t heard that. Lots of power outages already. Candles ready.
Yep the winds are picking up and cable tv has been in and out. So far the power has stayed on…
Saw this tweet just now and thought, how fitting:
reelectobama012 : “Teapocrite (noun), a tea bagger, who rails against government spending, but still takes government money. The adjective is teapocrisy.”
I noticed that the teapocrites are kicking off a teapocrite express bus toru from Napa, CA to today throug 19 states, and are scheduled to up at the repug debate sponsored by CNN September 12. Let’s see how much press coverage these idiots will get this time.
The minute the MSM starts to cover this and no doubt they will as it suits their agenda, we should be on them like white on rice asking where the town hall coverage currently going on is. It has not been favorable to the Republicans. Or the coverage of those Republicans refusing to meet with constituents, or worse charging for the ‘privilege’ of their face time.
Michele Bachmann thinks it’s ok to lower the minimum wage to be competive with overseas labor….I say it’s okay for us to reset Congressional salaries based on her minimum wage standards. The 112th Congress is off more than it’s on, and when it’s off a good amount of the legislators are refusing to meet with constituents, and then of course there is the paltry track record of legislative productivity.
I think we have a legitimate case
Winds are picking up. Trees going down in the neighbors yard and the power is about to go.
Oh my, where are you nospin? Please stay safe. Lots of prayers coming you way.

I’m in Waldorf, MD, a little ways from you. Take care and keep a watch for falling trees. Hope you don’t have any big ones in your yard near your house.
Hey look. Here’s another new poll about President Obama, saying his numbers are down since June. He got bin Laden in May and the debt ceiling debate followed that. Color me shocked that his numbers aren’t as a sky high as the bin Laden moment.
Of course, AP-GFK had a recent poll about congress too, where they found:
“Congress Approval Rating: Poll Shows 87% Disapprove Of Congress
Americans are plenty angry at Congress in the aftermath of the debt crisis and Republicans could pay the greatest price, a new Associated Press-GfK poll suggests.
The poll finds the tea party has lost support, Republican House Speaker John Boehner is increasingly unpopular and people are warming to the idea of not just cutting spending but also raising taxes — anathema to the GOP — just as both parties prepare for another struggle with deficit reduction.”
I hope that if a Sunday show talking head or a GOP hack (redundant I know) decides to bring up the President’s numbers, that a Democrat reminds them that only 12% of the country approves the new congress of John Boehner and the tea partiers.
Reading through the quotes of voters in the President’s poll article, I am at a loss to figure these voters out. It’s as if they only react, rather than reflect. They only look at results and do not consider the processes that influence those results.
How else you you explain this reality-detached quote:
“Obama will have to win over people such as Brian Arnold, 33, of Pickerington, Ohio. He’s an independent who voted for Obama in 2008 because he liked the Democrat’s outsider image.
Now, Arnold says he’s undecided and down on Obama. “He got elected, it was a big party and after that he went back to being a politician. As soon as he got in office, he just did more of the same.”
A voter like this makes absolutely no sense to me and yet it’s the type of voter that must be won over in order to win back congress and win the Presidency.
He ignores the actions of the hostage takers and decides the President is the problem. I don’t understand how these people think.
These so-called “Independents” of the Obama era are usually Republicans who simply couldn’t bring themselves to vote for Sarah Palin and by default voted for PBO. Yet while they were easily impressed with Dubbya getting into a flight suit, and they are impressed by “moderates” such as Huntsman and Romney, they cannot give this President credit if he finds a cure for cancer.
Nothing this Arnold guy says makes any sense and he’s advertising his ignorance of politics and policy by his glib and patently false talk about PBO doing “more of the same.”
Love how you put “moderates” in quotes because Huntsman and Romney are indeed no moderates. They subscribe to the same failed GOP policies. They just try to appear reasonable. There isn’t one drop of difference between them and Perry and Bachmann.
Another thing we need to remember is that the media uses these slanted polls to shape a narrative rather than report accurately. So it’s quite likely that there were many pro-Obama, informed and intelligent comments that would never see the light of day in this report. I find it hard to believe that Congress’s polls are so low, yet the article couldn’t find a single negative comment from voters to cite. It’s dishonest reporting and it’s propaganda designed to undermine this President and build up the GOP. So far I have not seen a single media report cite any specific anti-Boehner comments although his numbers are supposedly in the toilet. And notice whenever the media cites people voicing disapproval with the President, it’s always a comment about whether or not they will vote for him in 2012. It’s never about a specific event or policy. This is the work of Koch brothers and GOP operatives. “Brian Arnold-33-of-Ohio” could be anyone – Joe the Plumber for that matter!
“This is the work of Koch brothers and GOP operatives.”
Yep, the work of the devil.
Yep. For example, anything Gallup’s polls say after its “we cannot understand why his rantings aren’t tanking” should be considered in that light.
People like Arnold is why we got Bush 2Xs and why the teaparty got elected in 2010, they only go on optics and not substance.
Some of these Independents need to look in the mirror and point the finger at themselves when they’re assigning blame.
So Arnold said “he’s undecided and down on Obama. “He got elected, it was a big party and after that he went back to being a politician. As soon as he got in office, he just did more of the same.” But no where in his explanation did he mention the intransigent of the Opposition party, or shall I say the Obstructionist Party.
Arnold’s fickleness and people like Arnold is the reason we find ourselves with a dysfunctional government today. I’m tired of placating these people.
Let’s face it, the MSM are NEVER going to write a story that says PBO is in great standing with his base or with independents. It’s just not in the cards. They will look for the squeaky wheel and just keep doing that until they find every last squeaky wheel. Hugely pathetic.
Some people subscribe to the Republican play book, or are so deeply entrenched in the staus quo of or politics, which is dvisive, they don’t recognize the change or the potential in President Obama’s approach. I think they are missing what is in plain site, change we can believe in. They voted for it, they got it, yet I think they are afraid to embrace it.
My brother and I who discuss politics alot, are in two different camps….I am the idealist I see opportunity in President Obama’s politics for a better functioning government, he is more pessimistic, he thinks you have be as dirty and as deceitful as the Republicans, and yet he still thinks President Obama is the better choice. We keep talking, we are gradually seeing things in the same light…but he is still the pessemist, and I am still the optimist. I know change is possible, but only possible if you are willing to adjust your behavior. So I keep reminding him of the definition of insanity, repeating the same behavior over and over and yet expecting different results. It really helps me not to worry about winning an argument, but rather focusing on expanding my perspective. That’s me.
Hey, everyone. Been out of pocket today because I was out registering Obamacrats. But I peeked here and at twitter on my iPhone. You guys just had me rolling — especially Lisa and Me4Obama about Lisa’s baby daddy, Chris Christie. Toooooo funny.
Just love our President. He is on the case. On the job. I love these photos of him and especially love seeing that name tag: Barack Obama President of the United States. Silly I know, but it just gives me a thrill.
That’s my President, damn it. He’s awesome.
Thank you for doing that important work! Go Obama!
Love the fact there’s that block to check now on the registration form!
Thank you for all you are doing!
Gov. O’Malley of MD sure seems impressive. I’ve heard him a couple of times on MSNBC, talking about hurricane preps and follow-on efforts in his neck of the woods. He’s extremely complimentary to FEMA, Janet Napolitano, and the President.
I really like him. I could see him running for Pres in 2016.
What really surprised me was Wolfe asked both the Gov, of Virginia and NH the same question and they said the same thing.
Missed them, but cool! I realized Wolfe was playing the FEMA card, but sounds like he didn’t get the responses he wanted.
All news reporters yesterday and today have been playing the “FEMA CARD”. They so want the govs to complain about FEMA so they can have something to hit the president with.
I really like the governor also. I have watched him and listened to him, and he sounds very reasonable. I was thinking of maybe he would be a good runner for 2016.HZ
That’s my guy!!! He will be a phenomenal asset to the President in the 2012 election and once we win PBO’s reelection look for my gov in 2016
You are so lucky, Donna!
Glad to hear you think he’ll be the one to look for in 2016. Got into a weird disagreement with someone on twitter last week who said we should all be pushing for VPBiden to step aside so HRC can run in 2016. (SO tired of that) I mentioned O’Malley and he said that he’s a good guy but will not be ready. I responded by saying it’s kind of weird to say that someone won’t be ready in 5 years. DUH. Anyway, I look forward to learning more about him.
He is a good egg. Sends out regular e-mails about matters in the State and of national/international importance. I wrote him an e-mail back when he was mayor of Baltimore and he gave me a good and thoughtful response.
Have MSNBC on in the background,,Gov. O’Malley just gave HUGE props to FEMA (“not the same FEMA it was 4 or 5 years ago”) and to the President for being so forward thinking and covering all the bases, going to FEMA headquarters etc.You guys in Maryland sure are lucky to have the Gov you have:) What a proactive President WE have!! Everyone on the east coast, stay safe.
We are lucky. Thanks. So far, so good.
There are three groups that hated hearing that and they’re Republicans, MSM and the Firebaggers.
O/T The chairs they are sitting in look like each one of them could just lift off and land somewhere else!!
Ha! Having worked for the federal government, I can tell they are ergonomically correct chairs (for the long haul), of the “executive” variety. Yes, even in government, there’s a caste system for who gets what chair.
So, not like the photo we saw of the previous occupant and his bare-bones “team” sitting around a tiny tv similar to what most families had in their homes in 1971? What a difference.
Well, that gave us all a chuckle, I’m sure! Although the difference makes one gag.
Just found out my niece volunteered for a 12-hour shift at a Red Cross shelter in South Jersey tonight – until 7 a.m. Good for her, and thanks to all of our unsung heroes who are helping folks in their communities!
kudos to your niece – I love this generation. They are so engaged in so many ways. (well most of them anyway LOL
They keep my hope alive
New thread here:
I dare, DARE, DOUBLE-DAMN DARE Gov. Chris “Krispy Kreme” Christie to turn down federal assistance when the inevitable issue of rebuilding the New Jersey beaches comes up. I DARE HIM!!!
Considering that he had already declared a state of emergency, he’s planning on taking funds. Doing so positioned him to request funds immediately.
uhm……. ok, so I had an at the crack of fucking DAWN onsite rehearsal at http://huntington.org/ then a two-margartia lunch at a local cantina outside on a patio (yeah it was fucking hot today) then a blissful nap, and I come back to – wtf is going on????
