Good trip down memory lane. Thanks Chipsticks! Hopefully with some hard work, focus and determination, we will be watching the Nov 2012 edition in a little more than a year. Yes.We.Will. Obama/Biden 2012
I saw Gaga’s opening performance and I don’t quite know what to say. It was very interesting. I loved how Jay Z and Kanye West came out on stage out of the blue and performed. MTV didn’t announce that they were going to perform. Pretty cool. Adele’s performance is so powerful. I’m kinda hoping Tyler the Creator wins Best New Artist or maybe Foster the People.
Ugh, yeah. Let’s give the guy who almost beat his girlfriend to death a second chance. No thanks. That psycho should be rotting in jail not on the stage.
I believe in second chances. I also believe that grown men who beat up grown women should not be glorified.
Domestic violence among teenagers and young adults is at epic proportions. A few weeks ago, there was a twitter trend “#ten ways to beat my girlfriend” or something similar. Some of these kids think it’s funny. It’s not funny.
Desraye, I totally agree with you!!! The young man must be afforded a second chance especially if he shows remorse and makes an effort to change!!!
We have become a hardened, unforgiving people and we wonder why our prisons are full and spilling over. All punitive and no reform!!!!
Wow! I remembered watching this. I love this couple soooo much. I love how well they compliment each other. They are so wonderful. One can only HOPE that America is smart enough to request an encore in 2012.
You know, there are so many people who lead such miserable lives that they can’t say nothing nice about anything. These miserable people just search the web and make negative comments about EVERYTHING. I was just reading the comments on the Yahoo story about Beyonce’s pregnancy and was astounded at how mean people can be. I closed it after the first page and came RUNNING back here to TOD. LOL!!!! wooooooo scary people!
I’m happy for Jay Z and Beyonce. May God bless them.
I just watched this and I really adore these moments. It’s a rare glimpse into who they were before and who they are now. And how really very true they’ve been to their own values. Really gorgeous, wonderful people.
You, better than any person on this planet, know the willful, strategic and unrelenting determination of the Republican Party to do as much damage to our economy and the middle class as they possibly can before Election Day 2012.
They really mean it, as I know you realize, that they will do whatever it takes to deny you a second term.
So, what about job creation in the next year or two.
From various reports, US Corporations are holding a trillion or more dollars in cash. A variety of excuses, including the self-fulfilling ‘uncertainty’ meme are simply disingenuous.
What to do?
Emulate WWII War Bonds.
Offer to corporations the purchase of a bond, in denominations of a minimum of $10,000.00 (and ranging to $ 1,000,000,000.00, or more), with an redemption trigger of US unemployment being at or below 7 % for three consecutive months. For each year the corporation holds the bond they would accrue a 5 % return. Redemption would be in the form of a tax credit that the corporation could apply to its earnings either immediately or at any time within 5 years. Similar to the ‘stamp’ mechanism used with war bonds, smaller companies could purchase stamps for, let’s say $ 500.00 until they reached the minimum bond size of $ 10,000.00. If, in ten years, the US economy had not recovered to 7 % or lower unemployment, the bond holders would be allowed to redeem for a one time tax credit equal to their investment plus 50 %.
The suggested approach would be an incentive for US corporations to create jobs within the US, rather than outsource. The faster they did so, the sooner the redemption would trigger and the sooner their tax credit would be available. If they are growing the US economy, they will be growing their respective revenue streams and the tax credit will be welcomed by their shareholders.
Republicans who serve only two masters – the ultra-wealthy and corporations – would be hard pressed to vote against a Jobs Bond Act structured as noted above, because their only two constituencies would be net beneficiaries of the proposed mechanism (in more than one way for those capable of systems thinking).
Perhaps this is something that is already considered, perhaps it is too lame to even consider. Please forgive if either is the case.
Bobfr – that is a GREAT and inventive idea! Please say that you’ve already sent it to the appropriate people at the White House? Nothing beats a failure but a try! Thank you Bobfr for doing your PART in the WE THE PEOPLE segment of America.
Is this site still valid? It says “President Elect” but the date is current…Treasury would be good, but wondered if there was another place to put in your suggestions? http://change.gov/page/s/ofthepeople
Thank you for your encouraging comments. I have sent the letter to President Obama, and then sent a copy with a cover note to VP Biden, Leader Pelosi and Leader Reid.
The concept is that the funds would be focused on infrastructure jobs – bridges, ports, broadband, etc – all which only enable US-based corporate productivity and competitiveness. The concept also says that these corporations can gain the upside without impacting their operational cost by adding employees that they legitimately do not need on their balance sheet. The jobs created are almost entirely ‘union’ in nature. So, all of those parameters are embedded in the recommendation – but would have exceeded the character limit to post to the President
Love love love our First Couple and seeing this video after watching BET’s coverage of First Lady Michelle Obama’s trip to Africa just reinforces how lucky we are as a nation to have them at the helm.
Love this video, hard to look at because of all the ugly hate directed towards them still. But, I must say, PBO is SUPERFINE on this video. Okay, had my bit of eye candy; going to bed now
I do believe that one day America will have a female President, but it won’t be either of these two (Bachmann & Palin) current women. They are our Crash-Test Dummies.
I’d like to see Kamala Harris, our state AG in California. She’s fabulous and a BIG President Obama fan. She also is smart, warm and understanding. I’d love to see her running and becoming president one day.
I just read on Facebook that this nutty woman gave a speech this weekend that started off with “who likes white people” with the crowd cheering. Now can you imagine if PBO said “who likes black people” to a cheering crowd. He would be sliced and diced by our lazy, sloppy, irresponsible media….crickets when she does it!!!!
StR clarified in another thread that she was referring to some band with “white people” in their name. But, the question is still valid – FOX and the rest of the pathetic media would have a field day replaying a similar quote from President Obama and playing it out of context. Look at how they are still feeding off the factless “whitey tape” nonsense.
No. she said “wet” people. someone investigated the name of the band and it wasn’t on any program or schedule for that appearance. the video was edited also.
A Puerto Rico lawmaker has resigned following reports that explicit photos of him surfaced on an iPhone application for gays and bisexuals, the head of the U.S. territory’s Senate announced Sunday.
Sen. Roberto Arango, a Republican who represents the capital of San Juan, presented his letter of resignation after a weekend meeting, Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz said.
Schatz did not release the lawmaker’s letter, but said the circumstances that led to the resignation “are very lamentable.”
Whew. When I first saw his story, I thought he was a Democrat. Inappropriate conduct by an elected official is inappropriate no matter the party, but I can’t help but be glad he’s a Republican.
Amazing. The photo with that article is the guy posing with President Clinton with big smiles all around. Too bad the dude is a life-long Repub activist and served on all sorts of Repub national committees such as this:
Anyone making that news page knows most people won’t read it through and just see the photo, so many viewers will think the loser is a Democrat now and is associated with President Clinton, when the exact opposite is true, and that’s on the supposed “liberal” network. And some people still argue with me when I say the MegaMedia dishonesty is planned and on purpose. It’s not a result of incompetence. I don’t know how much more they can do to prove it to people.
Another “mission accomplished” for the Repubs and their MegaMedia enablers.
You guys always share such meaningful memory lane videos that really re-energize. I particular enjoy the ones with the Prez because I find it kinda neat to place his words then side by side with his actions and accomplishments since. The man had, and has, goals! That much is indisputable no matter what his opponents may say, and unlike their goals (to make him a one-term president), his are for the betterment of the entire country.
Smartypants is highlighting some WORDs from a poster at THAT site that I believe others here might appreciate:
“”Libyan women are now joining the armed forces against NATO. We are training them. Their main role is defending homes. We have no plan to send them to the front line. They are not trained for that, and our army is very effective,” Moussa Ibrahim, a government spokesman, told the Guardian.
“We are going to make sure that every mother, the symbol of love and creation, is a bomb, a killing machine,” Moussa added.”
Ghadaffi really is a piece of work, isn’t he? Usually there are accounts of a fallen leader who was at least nice to those who served him. Hitler’s servants stayed loyal. Others said he was nice to Eva and his dog. This guy gets overthrown, and the consistent stories are of being privately greedy and abusive, not just corrupt and dictatorial.
Republicans Complain About Cuts to FEMA Hurricane Relief…You Know the Cuts They Wanted
After sleeping through the worst part of the hurricane last night, I woke this morning to the Washington Post reporting that disaster relief will have to be pulled from the Midwest to handle the East Coast hurricane problems.
“With less than $1 billion currently available for federal disaster assistance, the Federal Emergency Management Agency is temporarily suspending payments to rebuild roads, schools and other structures destroyed during spring tornadoes in Joplin, Mo. and southern states in order to pay for damage caused by Hurricane Irene.”
In the most recent budget negotiations the White House and lawmakers agreed on roughly $38 billion in cuts to federal spending to departments and agencies.
The Republican Chair of the House Appropriations Committee blames the need for moving funding around from Joplin and the Midwest to the east cost on the President’s cuts in FEMA.
“On Saturday, House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) urged the Senate to quickly approve the House GOP version of the annual Homeland Security spending measure that includes $1 billion for additional disaster funding this year and $2.65 billion for fiscal 2012.
“Time and time again, the [Obama] administration has ignored the obvious funding needs of the Disaster Relief Fund, purposefully and irresponsibly underfunding the account and putting families and communities who have suffered from terrible disasters on the back burner,” Rogers said. “Now the administration has let the fund reach critically low levels, putting continued recovery at risk, without a plan for the future or a clear method for dealing with new disasters.”
The House Appropriations Committee details some of the $38B cuts in this PDF including
These were cuts approved by Chairman Rogers own committee that he’s blaming on the President. The Continuing Resolution set to maintain our country until we were able to pass an actual budget was passed earlier this year. According to Chairman Rogers’s own Committee Summary of the bill the CR also reports (emphasis mine)
“The National Weather Service, of course, is part of NOAA — its funding drops by $126 million. The CR also reduces funding for FEMA management by $24.3 million off of the FY2010 budget, and reduces that appropriation by $783.3 million for FEMA state and local programs.”
In that same WaPo piece tea party Republican Rep. Eric Cantor says that they will get the money needed for FEMA from other places. I guess he means the needs for the east cost are going to come from Joplin. Cantor was also caught with his tea party cuts around his knees earlier this week when the Virginia earthquake hit it was also discovered that Cantor was holding disaster aid for earthquakes hostage unless there were other spending cuts.
“reduces FEMA first responder grants by $786 million, eliminates $264 million in funding that was previously targeted to earmarks, and rescinds $557 million in unobligated and lapsed balances from prior year funds.”
In related news the New York Times reported a few weeks ago the disapproval rating for the tea party has doubled since last year to 40 percent.
I remember watching this when it aired. Time flies.
doesn’t it though?
Seems like a decade ago. She was wonderful then, and she’s wonderful now.
Yes she is. We are so blessed to have them both.
They don’t disappoint, do they?
Wow O Wow!!!! Good memories.
Hi, COS – Sometimes it seems more like a dream than memory. A very, very good dream.
Good trip down memory lane. Thanks Chipsticks! Hopefully with some hard work, focus and determination, we will be watching the Nov 2012 edition in a little more than a year. Yes.We.Will. Obama/Biden 2012
She’s so selfless. Amazing. We will enjoy this great woman for many, many years to come. I look forward to that. What a gift.
What a wonderful couple we got for President and First Lady.
Just listen. Just listen. Just listen to what he said and look where we are. Just listen. Thanks Chips.HZ
OT completely.
Did you guys see Lady Gaga opening on VMA. Good Lord. Speeeeeeeeeechless.
Ut, that Girl is either talented or she is sick. That opening left my head spinning.
I know right? My friend and I were just like WTF is this? We don’t know if we were supposed to applaud or take a dramamin.
Hey Me4oabma did you just see Chris Brown’s performance? Flying through the air like that….??!!! I’d be freaked out.
UT, good that Chris Brown was given the second Chance, he is young and so Talented. Reminds me of MJ. Such a good dancer. Iam waiting to see lady B.
Ugh, yeah. Let’s give the guy who almost beat his girlfriend to death a second chance. No thanks. That psycho should be rotting in jail not on the stage.
So you don’t believe in second chances?
I believe in second chances. I also believe that grown men who beat up grown women should not be glorified.

We have become a hardened, unforgiving people and we wonder why our prisons are full and spilling over. All punitive and no reform!!!!
I love Adele. My favorite artist of the moment. I also am kind of speechless about Lady Gaga. I’m old(ish) so I guess my opinion is dated.
Wow! I remembered watching this. I love this couple soooo much. I love how well they compliment each other. They are so wonderful. One can only HOPE that America is smart enough to request an encore in 2012.
OT. Beyonce is pregnant. Blessings.
For real? Where did you hear that?
She announced it at the VMA awards. Here is the HuffPost link Chips if that’s okay.

OMMMMMGGGGG, Lady B, am in tears. What a joy she has.

That is fantastic news!!! Congratulations to the gorgeous Beyonce!!!
I just watched this and I really adore these moments. It’s a rare glimpse into who they were before and who they are now. And how really very true they’ve been to their own values. Really gorgeous, wonderful people.

Thank you GGail very much!

Gaddafi’s female bodyguards claim they were raped: report
“”Libyan women are now joining the armed forces against NATO. We are training them. Their main role is defending homes. We have no plan to send them to the front line. They are not trained for that, and our army is very effective,” Moussa Ibrahim, a government spokesman, told the Guardian.

The charred remains of about 53 people were found in a warehouse in Tripoli, apparently opponents of Gaddafi who were executed, Britain’s Sky News reported on Saturday. Sky broadcast pictures of a heap of burned skeletons, still smoldering, in an agricultural warehouse, where the victims were apparently prisoners.
Gaddafi loyalist forces, who pulled back to Sirte following the fall of their leader’s Tripoli compound earlier this week, reportedly left thousands of land mines in the wake of their retreat.
