I so agree. I didn’t think I would ever get a tatto, but if he signed on my hand I would want it there forever. My kids might wonder about me. But I wouldn’t let it disappear.

Rev. Al, has no choice as to who is on the show. The people who are asked to be on the show are picked by management. I think we have to give Al a break on this. After all MSNBC is the nonpolitical station. As long as there are many of repubs on every show they are happy. Republicans own the station.

Al faces many of the problems PBO does. He does not have control.

They act like what they want and think PBO should do, have to do is a piece of cake, just a walk in the park. As a AA older and wiser woman (50 something) I am more disgusted with this (sad) man and the like of him, than I am with teapartiers and Eric Cantor, etc. I have said this before, with people like this sad drippy person, who needs enemies (the Repubs, Bernie Sanders, etc). President Barack Obama dealt House Speaker John Boehner the latest blow Tuesday in the lawmakers’ war of words.

In response to a letter Boehner sent President Obama last week accusing the President of overreaching with “job-crushing” federal regulations, President Obama sent his own letter chiding the Speaker.

Just watch his pattern in dealing with these silly people. It is in his DNA. Reading about his father now. Great read.HZ

I see President Obama the same way you see him, as an exceptional human being, and the leader of a lifetime. It’s why pundits like Howard Fineman, and Chris Matthews look like fools in my eyes. They don’t recognize the change in front of them, maybe because they turned their backs to today and are living in the past. Their minds are closed, and their eyes shut. Or, they are so full of themselves, they think they have seen it all. Well they haven’t seen the likes of our outstanding President, ever. They are major league boneheads!

Sue, you are so right…these persons are living in the past and they keep comparing PBO to past presidents and politicians. And like you stated, “they are so full of themselves” their egos won’t let them acknowledge the fact that they “haven’t seen the likes of our outstanding President”…PBO is the one and only, there is no other. On some level I think Chris and “them” are envious of PBO. These “major league boneheads” are a waste.

A new Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report estimates that the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) increased the number of people employed by between 1.0 million and 2.9 million jobs as of June. [1]

In other words, between 1.0 million and 2.9 million people employed in June owed their jobs to the Recovery Act. This estimate, by Congress’ non-partisan economic and budget analysts, is more comprehensive than the 550,000 jobs that ARRA recipients reported in July, CBO explains.

He is loved and adored by so many of his supporters and they just can’t stand that fact. Now you tell me when you have ever seen people stand in lines for hours or sleep at ticket windows overnight in the hope of seeing or touching the President of the United States not to mention get him to sign your hand. Well I can tell you in my 56 years of life that this is the first President that has ever invoked that kind of excitement out of the public.

    • August 30, 2011 at 7:29 pm

Yes, you nailed it, Donna. He’s so extraordinary, they just can’t process it because he’s a Democrat and he’s not white. They have no schema for that. He lights the racists up like a Christmas tree because he is so genuinely charismatic yet in so many other ways he has the touch of a common man. They can never match his intellect or his instincts and it drives them insane. The whole family is so exceptional and lovely. I believe he will wipe the floor with any Republican candidate, especially on foreign policy.

He is such a problem solver! When the MSM does not report the truth or the positive outcomes and only reports the GOP talking points we see our President writing op eds in area papers or articles in magazines so it is out there in his words with no spin. When the GOP politicians complain and give false information Prez Obama goes out in the real world to talk to the US citizens himself to set the record straight. He asks them to call their legislators to tell them to get with it and help them get jobs.

Spot on Donna. That’s exactly it. Our President can whip up the most diverse crowd like no one else today could. That’s why the media tries desperately to convince people otherwise by their nonstop polling that is becoming more and more meaningless by the week.

      • August 30, 2011 at 8:30 pm

Not that I would put it past the folks in the MainStreamMedia to “adjust” anything that makes President Obama look good, I have to put in a word for sound engineers everywhere.

Applause and other “outside” noises can wreak havoc on recordings. Even with all of the current modern technology, If the focus is on capturing the words of a speaker, the levels of the microphones are set for that person. To keep your ears from exploding when the applause comes in, the levels are taken down.

            Just sayin’…

      • August 30, 2011 at 7:59 pm

Well, I think part of it is that PBO made a very strong move to halt automatic deportations of potential DREAM Act students and LGBT partners. That is a first step for engaging Latino voters full force. So it’s probably a little bit of both.

Wow, John Conyers is being going to face a primary challenger. His district has also been redrawn. He’s been in Congress for 24 terms!!!

    • August 30, 2011 at 7:50 pm

Unfortunately not anymore. Hansen Clarke and Conyers will switch districts, as Clarke ended up with more of Conyers old district and Conyers more of Clarke’s. This flip should keep them both safe and without primary challenge.

      • August 30, 2011 at 8:02 pm

        I’m referring to this guy:

State Sen. Bert Johnson (D) announced Tuesday he will seek Michigan’s 13th House district seat, setting up a race against one of Congress’ longest-serving Members: Rep. John Conyers (D).

“I am in fact running as a candidate in the 13th Congressional district,” Johnson told Roll Call on Tuesday. “I am the only announced candidate. While I suspect the field will grow, I don’t know who it will include today.”

Conyers has not announced yet where he’ll run for re-election, but he’s widely expected to seek another term in the Detroit-based 13th district. The 24-term Democrat is a target this cycle because of his family’s legal issues and because the newly redrawn Congressional map dismantled his current House district.

I agree! It would be the honorable thing for him to do. It’s time for the oldies to pass the torch to the younger generations. Forty-some years in Congress is enough! And I say that as older person. I was in my twenties when John Conyers was first elected to Congress, but I am now a senior citizen. I want to see new young black faces in political office because that tells me that we are making progress. Among the many young African Americans in political positions I admire, and deeply respect, are: the Newark, NJ, Mayor, the Gov. of Massachusetts, and, of course, our incredible President. They are smart, practical, visionary, and charismatic. They remind me of many young people in the sixties, like Dr. King, Bob Moses, Stokely Carmichael, Diane Nash, Charles Sherrod, John Lewis and others, who were also smart, practical, visionary, and charismatic. Interestingly, during the sixties, older and wiser, veterans of the Black Freedom struggles, like A. Philip Randolph, Ella Baker, E.D. Nixon and Amzee Moore, recognized the talents of these young people and passed the torch to them. It’s time for people like Conyers to do the same.

Check it out!!

Hmmm…You know MSNBC is on a full-scale anti-Obama business for the next 12-14 months, right? And the fact that they hired REV Al, means that they are going to have to balance it to please the PL who are mighty ticked off that their precious Cent Uygur was replaced.

Yes, and sorry to say, I can’t watch even when Rev Al is on, except for his ending. Now I realize that the hosts don’t always get to pick their guests, as IMO Rev Al wouldn’t have half the people that he has on, if left up to him. Hi TOD Family, just read a tweet from DWS stating that she just had a Great mtg. w/AA leadership at NC Dem Party w/Cong. Butterfield. Would be nice to show some love to Debbie and Rep. Butterfield. Forget these loud mouths that we just witnessed on Hardball and Rev. Al. Mr. Herbert is an old foolish man. He does not fit in this conversation. Also, good idea to write or tweet Rep. Luis Guiterrez to go on programs and say what he said in that video. I am staying on him. I am also staying on Rep. L. Richardson from Ca. Let’s get to work.HZ

The White House says President Obama will urge Congress to pass a federal highway bill that he says will protect about 1 million jobs.
The president will make his appeal Wednesday at the White House. He will be joined by the leaders of two occasionally warring factions—AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka and David Chavern, chief operating officer of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

At issue is the renewal of a transportation spending bill that expires Sept. 30. The House is considering a six-year, $230 billion bill paid entirely with current fuel taxes. The Senate proposal would last only two years and cost $109 billion.

The push for infrastructure spending comes as Obama prepares to unveil a jobs package that mixes spending and tax breaks.

Bravo Lisa for asking a very pertinent question! IMO, Arianna Huffington is a spoiled, rich, multimillionaire, woman who has never worked a single day in her life on a job that can be characterized as a middle class job. I also have seen no evidence to suggest that she has any first hand knowledge of the economic reality of the middle classes. I pity people who seriously think that Arianna is a true progressive who is interested in fundamental social change. Here in California, many of us still remember her as a rabid promoter of right wing issues. It seems to me that Arianna is now in the business of attacking and demonizing President Obama. That is the way she makes her money. She is more at home with the Gingrich’s than she is with the middle class.

I need some precious help. I do not live in Rep. Proudmemberofglobalzero, she accused POB of taking money away from the college students in her district for one thing. That was enough for me.POB does not write bills, he signs them. And all of know he did not take money from college students in her district. What the hell sense does that make when he is trying to get students into schools. Plus in Cali., she knows who runs the state universities. She is lying on him.

    • August 30, 2011 at 9:17 pm

I didn’t know who Laura Richardson was, so I decided to check, and this sentence stood out, “She endorsed Hillary Clinton in ’08, even tho her district voted for Obama 54%-43% (primary). I’m real tired of PUMAs. She’s also has a lot of issues.

        • 161 nathkatun7
          August 31, 2011 at 3:24 am

I remember Laura Richardson and Maxine Waters both endorsed Hillary Clinton; as did the vast majority of the members of CBC. That was o.k. with me because they had every right to support a candidate of their choice. What is so strange about some –not all– Clinton supporters is that they must have missed the message from Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton moved on. She not only supported President Obama but she agreed to be on his team. Why can’t Hillary’s supporters realize, like she did, that we are all Democrats and must work together. I was a strong supporter of President Obama. If President Obama had failed to get the nomination, I would have supported any of the people running against him if he/she happened to be the Democratic nominee who went on to win the presidency.

With all the ugly overt and covert racism against President Obama, I simply do not understand how African Americans, as well as all the people of color, and the real genuine white progressives who have moved beyond race, can jump on the bandwagon of constant bashing and disrespect of the first African American President.

ENVY is one of the seven deadly sins. In my humble opinion, I think all all the people you listed are quite envious of President Obama. Each one of them wishes he could be loved by a vast majority of the people in the world. Each one of them wishes that he could constantly be regarded by women to be sexy, both for his looks and for his intelligence. And, in the case of the “Doctor, brother, West,” (since I am not familiar with the family life of the others) I am sure he envies the President for having a committed wife who is beautiful, intelligent, gifted, and accomplished in her own right. These people are so consumed with envy of the President. So, there! That’s my two cents, for whatever it’s worth!

    • August 30, 2011 at 9:53 pm

Yes, I agree. Handsome face and handsome hands.

Speaking of hands, someone upthread commented on the “marker spot” on his thumb. I don’t think that’s a little marker spot though; I think it’s a bruised thumb nail. I think I noticed it a week ago or so in a photo here on TOD. I’ve been wondering how he might have hurt his little thumbsy wumbsy, :) Surely, he’s not doing fix-it chores around the White House and accidently hit his thumb with a hammer? Maybe he did one of my husband’s numbers and slammed his thumb while trying to close a sticky window. Or maybe his bag of golf clubs fell on his hand. Ha! ;) I don’t know. Maybe it’s not a bruise at all. Maybe I’m way off in left field with this. :) :) :)

I believe one way to counter the disingenuous media narrative and to silence those talking heads is for the DNC to put out an ad with actors who represent ordinary supporters of the President saying “I support President Obama because of A, B or C – no one else can speak for me” while showing vague images of media whores like Arianna, Hamsher, Corny, Tarvis, Fineman, etc..

I really like this too, everyday supporters, a digital campaign. I hate ‘rah rahing’ things I am not prepared to do myself..but I think this is genuis and easily with a little promotion could go viral. And it’s a twofer…a great support campaign for President Obama, and a little STFU to the MSM. Awesome idea.

Full disclosure, I’ve never used my digital camera….ever! My brother in law is going to help me put my picture in the computer so I can have an avatar? gravatar? whatever they are called. I opened a twitter account and I’m an egg…..I called him and said help me please…waiting for a break in his very busy schedule.

When did the twitter campaign start here, anyone remember? Northhangar had a lot of helpful suggestions for the likes of me, slow to commit, technically clumsy. I ‘ve spent some time reading over at Twitter, but thought I’ld revisit northhangar’s advice which as I recall was very well expressed.

Really Excellent suggestion, hopefruit! I want to speak for my self. None of these pretend progressives, some of whom, like Arianna, are recent converts who lived most of their lives as right wing Republicans, can speak for me. Please run this idea to OFA and the DNC. I am also tired of hearing that Senior citizens don’t support the President. I am a senior citizen and I support the President 100%. I support him because of his policies. But, most importantly, I support him because of his character and intelligence.
