NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson presents President Obama with driving gloves during an event to honor Johnson for his fifth consecutive championship in the East Room of the White House
From left to right: Jeff Burton; Kyle Busch; Jeff Gordon; Jimmie Johnson; Denny Hamlin; Matt Kenseth; Kurt Busch; and Clint Bowyer
Thanks for the reminder Chips. I totally forgot. You’re the best! ;)
I’m sneaking this on to your comment because its too good to leave at the bottom. I saw this link on twitter. please share. I’m sending it to all of those loud mouth Dems.
My apologies Mr. President:
Thanks for this gobrooklyn. Off to tweet.
I understand the President honoring NASCAR, but its fans are not his demographic.
True maybe, but remember he’s the president of all America. ;)
Yes, and some who are interested in NASCAR may tune in and see that the president is human—–much to their surprise. (Limbaugh lied to them!)
And, if I may make a not very presidenty comment, after observing the newly posted photos, is that President Obama the cutest, most adorablest person on the planet?
Jimmy Johnson Tweets:
“What an honor today in DC. It was surreal standing on stage next to POTUS while he spoke about my family & what I’ve accomplished in racing.”
Most of them are not his base, but I’ve been watching NASCAR for the last 7 years and have even gone to a few racing at California Motor Speedway. And, I love Jimmy Johnson and Jeff Gordon.
Lawd have mercy, I sent the mother Jones article to the NJ star Ledger and now they are running articles about the closed door speech at the Koch event.
Yee-haw! You’ve got to know you had something to do with that, and I’m so glad you were proactive!
Great job bjw2. I’m going to follow your lead and make sure I tweet and email articles to my local media and local newspaper. As they say, all politics is local and if we want to erode the corrupt power the GOP Media have, we have to empower our local media with relevant news because a lot of people get their news that way.
WOW!!!!!!!!! Nicely done.
You did good bjw2!!! That is how we beat the MSM go local!!!!
Good job! One person can change a room….
okay, so coach me here. I know TOD has something going with the local newspapers. Say it again, describe it to me,
I want the News & Observer [Raleigh, NC] to get resourced, and I’m prepared to be the one to get them the goods. RSVP, svp.
WIW is putting together a data base of local press. She’s asking everyone to send it to her e-mail (email@example.com) or post it here. The goal is to do something like bjw2 did. Send these kinds of stories to the local press, or when you see good letter to the editor/story, post it here or give to WIW.
Basically, I think the idea is for us to bring the issues to and from our respective local presses to keep them engaged and ourselves aware of what’s going on in other parts of the country as it relates to our efforts to relect PBO.
I think it is an action plan of sorts.
Hope, I am making sense.
Soon as you see a negative story regarding one of your GOP State reps, Congressman or Senator either email or twitter that info to your local media, such as local tv news stations, local papers and your democatic state office headquarters.
“WhatisWorking” is sponsoring this project on TOD. Believe she posted a reminder earlier today on a previous thread, with details.
In the meantime, you can email or tweet whatever source item you’d like to your local paper. Their contact information is usually on the newspaper’s website.
Hope this helps. Good luck!
AWESOME thank you all. Yes, I think we MUST circumvent the mainstream media. They are not doing their jobs.
Now that’s what I call “CIRCUMVENTING THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA FIREWALL”. Really bjw2, this is just terrific. Thank you so much.
WooT….way to go Lois Lane! That is awesome…..the audio needs to viral.
Way to go bjw2
Local News can rock if we help.
I have added this website to the local news page, send me some more, this is fun.
GO bjw2. Making a difference one tweet, e-mail, call, letter to editor at a time.
Thanks everyone….I was off from work today and I’ve spent nearly all day at my computer.
I have come to view the National media as non-existent.
The audio of Christie at the Koch event makes him sound like a pompous jerk, the more I listened the madder I got.
Great work! Must feel good to know you are making a difference and getting the word out. What is Working has been gathering local media info, so we can do this more often when the truth needs to get out.
wow really? way to go!!! hey i’m gonna do that too!
Good on you, Bjw2! One step at a time.
Okay, this is for people who love to hate the White House Press Corps:
Saying F*** these people isn’t good enough. They might enjoying (or be badly in need of being) effed. Seriously? We can’t come up with something more appealing? Something that might actually bother them if it happened? Like: Damn him to flying coach for the next year. Or: No more AF1 for you, buddy. Or: May your microphone be open when you spew your racist rants thinking you’re off air. Or: We’re putting out a Jay Carney Calendar, so there.
I think we should sharpen up our ridicule tacks. Pop their bloated egos. Poof!
We should have a calendar of our Whitehouse heros…….maybe a little fund raising project!
Jay is Clark ‘freakin’ Kent…now we need 11 more, starting with our SOSBOB(spine of steel, balls of brass) POTUS.
David Plouffe! Hello! Austan Goulsbee. (not WH anymore, but hey.) VP Biden.
Ooo, Stephen Chu.
I think it’s a great idea, although we need to engage the help of the artists and techno wiz’s….amongst us. I am artisically inclined, but that may not cut it. Someone mentioned that the were in fact a graphic artist, JoJoCat (?), my brother in law works in the art department of a local company here in Minneapolis, I can talk to him and see what and how this could be accompolished.
We can’t forget the women…Michelle Obama, Dr. Biden, Janet Napolitano roping hurricane Irene…we need two calendars.
Steven Chu is one of my favorite cabinet members. I still remember when President Obama made the announcement that we were going to nominate an acclaimed scientist and Nobel Prize winner as Secretary of Energy. I am bursting with pride every time I see Steven Chu. He is doing an exemplary job. He is a treasure.
Interview: Steven Chu
Energy Secretary Steven Chu: ‘It Saddens Me’ That Political Leaders Don’t Understand Climate Science
I’ll add our cute VP Biden !! We could show their official portraits (ruining the fun?) on their birthday month. Ha ha!
All kidding aside, love the idea of a little fundraiser calendar!
Ha! That’s what SOSBOB means! a fundraiser calender! It could be really funny! :-)
One thing I’ve noticed is that they don’t like to be challenged. We have to push at them with the facts. Say for example, we pick one that asks the most asinine or misleading question, we bombard him/her with the facts.
Or when they carry GOP water, bringing those kinds of questions in the room, go after them. Like Tapper yesterday, bringing up the Faux Hoffa GOP outrage.
We have the means via twitter, e-mail, and those on facebook.
They can block twitter, but it is an open forum. We can tweet and retweet others comments and eventually even if the person blocks us, they will get the message from some of their followers.
Maybe twitter should be aimed a single person on a given day, a cannon ball instead of scatter shoot.
Yep. that might help. I know when I am able to get to my computer at work and if I see some tweeter summons i’ll do it. providing i know something about the subject matter. (hate tweeting blindly) I’m especially trying to look out for WIW and get the good word out about what ever she’s got going on.
Jessica Yeltsin democratic sources tell her exactly what is in the jobs plan!
I have sources that say Jessica is a total, bought-and-paid-for fool!
    Jacqueline we have the same sources.
Wasn’t she the one who was a hologram on a very special episode of CNN Circle Jerk, or whatever? I found the hologram more credible than the corporeal version.
How do you know that Jessica Yeltsin is not lying? Do you have any way of verifying her statement? Why not wait for just one day to hear directly from the President? I am sick and tired of the MSM trying to spread gossip so that they can manufacture controversy and provoke attacks on the President before he delivers his address to Congress. I wish posters on this this blog would refrain from spreading MSM gossip!
Businesses Post Most Job Openings In 3 Years
included a video clip from the Presidents labor day speech.
That is very encouraging. Thanks, WiW.
I know, after two years of trying post graduation, he just landed one :)
Indeed, encouraging news, WIW!! Please note someone up thread was asking about idea about contacting local press. I tried to explain it, but don’t know if I did a good job. Perhaps, you can give the person a better explanation.
Here’s audio of a recent interview with POTUS just released: http://www.thegrio.com/politics/obama-obviously-african-americans-have-suffered-more.php
Great interview. The President, once again, gave us some encouragement, moving forward. Here’s a snippet (most of us could quote some of this already, but it still helps to “hear” it again!):
[President] Obama: Well you know the truth of the matter is everyone has a selective memory about my presidential campaign. Everyone remembers the end where everybody had the posters, and everybody is saying “Yes We Can”, everybody is feeling good.
But I remember right around this time back in 2007, where everybody had written us off. And everybody had said he’s got no chance, he’s 30 points behind, he’s not going to win Iowa, he’s going to have to fold-up tent. The campaign was hard. There were times where we would think to ourselves this thing is just not going to work, it’s just not going to happen.
But somehow we made a way out of no way. And I think that is going to be our same approach when it comes to 2012. That’s my same approach when it comes to the country. We just keep on slotting. We keep on trying. We don’t give up. We stay focused on what our goals are: which is helping as many people as possible live out the American Dream.
I can’t yet tell where we’re going to be six months from now. My first job is to serve the people as the president of the United States. There will be a time for campaigning. But I know that whatever we do, there are a whole lot of folks out there who I think share our belief in a vision of America that is bold, and generous and optimistic. And is looking out for everybody, not just some.
And that spirit that we were able to capture in 2008…that spirit lives out there. Folks have taken some lumps because of this recession over the last two years, and I’ve got more gray hair than I did back then, but overall, I could not be more confident in the American people.
This is another reason why I love, adore, admire, and respect this President and this is why I will not particpate in mindless handwringing and anxiety ridden ridiculousness because most people only remember the good times in the 08 campaign and not the hard times when everything looked bleak and still, then candidate Obama pulled through. He was victorious in 2008 and with our help he will be victorious once again.
WE DON’T QUIT!!
I just got home from work…I have been busy since 4:45 this morning….what did I miss? I turned of Chris Matthews…we have the right wing journalists on his how tonight. I am glad he thinks politics is funny…not!!! These are our little lives he keeps smiling about,
Please someone make my heart feel better…I have never had anger and hate in there before. I do not like the way this feels at all!!
Peggy Noonan! Really?
Hey proudmemberofglobalzero, it’s all good. I saw that Peggy Noonan is on Hardball right now. She’s in Simi Valley gearing up for the GOP debate and is salivating that she’s in the presence of the AF1 plane Saint Ronnie used. Don’t worry about the silliness, just put your feet up if you can, listen to some music, eat some good food, watch some good tv and chill. Let the pundits keep spouting utter nonsense. We’ll wait for the main event and OUR guy’s jobs speech that actually has the American peoples best interests at heart. :)
*salivating that she’s in the presence of the AF1 plane Saint Ronnie used*
Oh, lawd, that was so, so funny!
She lives in a necrophilic fantasy world with her “Daddy” Reagan. I think she’s weird…seriously weird.
Twitters should pummel Hardball with Reagan facts…dispell the lies, expose the fantasy.
You have us! Stop watching the MSM loudmouths, we are much more fun! :-)
I had to just calm down my hubby and tell him to turn off Tweety,s show. He was yelling at the TV and getting ready to throw things.
Proud Member, I do not wish to make you feel worse, but Chris Matthews just told Peggy Noonan she was the best columnist in America. I’ll never think the same of him. You are not by yourself.
Oh my goodness. And Chris had the nerve to ask “What’s wrong with President Obama?; we’ll be right back.” He should look in the mirror and ask himself what’s wrong with him that because he’s at the Reagan Presidential Library he feels the need to suck up to Peggy and say she’s the best columnist in America. Are you freaking kidding me? How much is ones journalistic integrity going for these days?
He also thinks Rick Perry is the greatest thing since peanut butter, granted 2 weeks ago Michelle Bachman gave him a thrill. He’s probably hoping Perry will were a flight suit.
Which is why I haven’t caught more than a few words’ spitting out of Chris Matthews’ mouth in practically a year! He just wants to get invited to Peggy’s next cocktail party. He’s a kid from Philly, still impressed by the “big names.” Or he just woke up, looked around, and noticed he’s back at the Reagan Library again, one of his favorite haunts. Think he gets that thrill up his leg (ewwww) every time he goes there.
Chris is a butt kisser…….a blatant suck up!
I stopped watching Tweety/Chris Matthews when he did that embarrassing “President of the World” garbage about former President Clinton. Why didn’t this “President of the World” step up during the eight horrible years of the Bush administration, when the country was going to hell in a hand basket? Why step up right when a capable person arrives to clean up the mess and move this country in a new, better direction? Chris Matthews lost any shred of credibility after that. And his commercials on MSNBC, lamenting that the problem with this election is that the (racist) GOP candidates won’t declare this President to be just as American as them, drives me crazy – what other President ever needed a declaration that he’s as American as other Americans?
DOE provides funding to military bases in the US, to have 160k rooftops with solar panels:
Um…the Whitehouse pulled the NASCAR event. I hope those NASCAR guys didn’t pull some bull-shiggedy to embarrass the White House.
It was on. It”s over already.
I just caught the end of it, and President Obama was cute and funny, so likable as he always is at these events. Said he was going to wear their gifts of gloves and helmet when he drives Golf Cart 1. Read about his other fun comments on twitter.
We’re all so protective of the President, aren’t we? I’m guilty, too!
Stay steady, StayingSteady4PBO!
POTUS gave Jimmy Johnson fatherly advice about daughters.
And…he said he would wear the gloves and helmet on “golf cart 1″
I know, right? I was getting ready to take my earrings off! LOL
I love that expression, and I heard it here first, from you. Cracks me up…thanks for the chuckle.
This is just terrific. President Obama’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness is doing good work.
MORE INDUSTRY LEADERS COMMIT TO DOUBLE ENGINEERING INTERNSHIPS IN 2012
On Wednesday August 31st, the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness announced fifty industry leaders that have committed to increasing the number of engineering internships available at their companies in 2012. These commitments announced on Wednesday will add approximately 6,300 additional opportunities for engineering students, and part of a greater Jobs Council effort to address America’s engineering shortage by graduating 10,000 more engineering students from U.S. colleges and universities each year.
U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu said these commitments are important for the country, “For America to stay competitive in the global market, we must train and retain the world’s best engineers.”
This is great. And if all defense contractors from the private sector would be required to each hire 50 or more new people (engineers or whatever) when they get the contracts (or get them extended), that would be monumental, too.
Don’t know if anyone has linked to this, but here is Matt Taibbi in Rolling Stone: “Apocalyptic GOP Is Dragging Us Into A Civil War”——(more and more I’m hearing people say that this presidential election may be the most important in our lifetimes, if not ever—I think the future existence of the middle class is on the table) (and worse)
Looks like the long knives are out for Perry. The GOP poobahs Cheney and Rove are already going after him for Social Security. Rove this morning on Good Morning America and Cheney here:
But all of their candidates support Ryan’s plan. Don’t make them any better off than Perry.
Let me apologize in advance….they are all a bunch of Fucktards. Hope they cut each other up.
I’ll now return to better behavior, and more polite anc civil commenting.
Amen to that. Let it loose sometimes, otherwise it backs up and blows up. I know from experience.
We are after all only human ;) …although I will say Obambots are the most evolved of all human species ;)
A few folks have asked me to repeat what we are doing to expand local media resources. Here is the plan.
1. there is now a page of links to local media websites. It is organized by state.
2. Here is how you can help. the best thing would be to do a google search for all the local media in your state. Two brilinat folks yesterday (Sonia and snoop I think) sent me web pages for all of Texas and all of Maryland. If you can’t find that then just search for the local papers, TV, radio you know about in your area. Then post the info here.
3. I will snatch it up and put it on the local media page, or as in the case of texas which is so darn big I will make an entire page for just one state.
Here is the page to date.
Here is the Texas page
4. Here is another way you can help
When you see a local story that is of interest to the group, post it here and include a note like “WIW add this to the media page”, I search this site for WIW so I hope to pick it up.
5. It you are good at writing letters to the editor or see a good letter written by someone else, post that here, I will snag that also. I am really willing to send letters to the editor but don’t want to sit down and write them. I have a much easier time when I work of a letter that is already written and then change it a bit.
Thanks so much for doing this!
thanks WIW – you’re doing some great work there! :-) w00t!
Let me join the wOOt chorus……a4alice is this our Minnesota fight song?
This is just horrifying……
RICK PERRY: The EPA won’t know what hit them.
Speaking at a campaign stop in his home state yesterday, Texas Governor and Republican Presidential Candidate Rick Perry announced his intentions to make the Environmental Protection Agency unapologetically pro-pollution.
His remarks were reported by the Houston Chronicle:
“I’ll tell you one thing: The EPA officials we have an opportunity to put in place, they’re going to be pro-business, and there’s not going to be any apologies to anybody about it,” he said. “Those agencies won’t know what hit ‘em.”
The GOP doesn’t understand that “pro-business” doesn’t have to mean “anti-human”. They make me sick. So, when they repeal “Obamacare”, they deregulate the insurance companies, and everyone gets sick because of the destruction of the EPA – how will those same businesses manage without any workers?
Perry is definitely worse than Bush.
The will destroy the fricking planet for a buck
**huff! huff! pant! pant!** I’ve been running ALL day trying to catch up to the end of Chips’ postings, without success! **Huff! Huff!* Maybe I shouldn’t go off and watch/read each posted link? But how will I know what people are really talking about? I’m too ‘old’ for all this running around. [Yes, I know. We ‘complain’ when Chips goes out for a few hours and one post stays up for a long time, AND I ‘complain’ when I can’t keep on top of all the many postings, videos and pictures. Just like the poutragers! :( Actually, I;m not really complaining, Chips. I’m just pausing to catch my breath because I’ve been running behind you all day. Plus I can’t put off cooking any longer and I realize I haven’t caught up yet.]
I’m huffing right behind you, VC. I usually only catch up with one post during the day (thru sneaking peaks while at work), then try and catch up with everything at the end of the day. Being on the east coast, all my posts are usually hours after everyone has moved on, but I always just leave my comments anyway, because I’m hoping someone else is huffing after me and will read it, or because I’ll explode if I don’t say something. Some days, there are so many posts that it’s impossible to catch up, but I still try.
I meant – being on the WEST coast… multi-tasking…
vcprezfan2….I made my calls this morning, wrote my e-mails….and I have been here all day. Take about addicted. Oh and I ate 6 more chocolate chip cookies wishing I had instead a frozen snicker bar. I am so amped for tomorrow….sugar is only jacking me higher
I think I’m going to quit the 12 step program. I’ll check the box Failed and embrace my addiction.
Golf Cart One!
I love it.
Hey guys, you know how we’ve done a couple of fundraisers here, AND how we’ve often said we’d love you-know-who to meet or talk with the Big Man? Well look at this….
Who would you ask the President to call?
Posted by Rufus Gifford, National Finance Director on September 07, 2011
If you could ask President Obama to make a surprise, personal phone call to someone you know, who would you choose?
Today, you should start thinking about it. The campaign’s first-ever national Grassroots Fundraising Challenge starts now.
Here’s how it works:
1. Set a goal on your grassroots fundraising page.
2. Raise the most money—or bring in the most grassroots donations—during the month of September.
3. The top two grassroots fundraisers in each category will win an amazing prize:
A personal phone call from President Obama or Vice President Biden to whomever you choose—your mom, your dad, your spouse, even yourself.
Check out the challenge homepage for the national leaderboard, helpful daily tips, featured pages, details on the prizes, and more—and then get going.
In 23 days, we face our next major reporting deadline as a campaign, and we have to keep up our momentum. So we’re shooting for 20,000 donations to grassroots fundraising pages by September 30th to hit our campaign goal.
I’ll be checking back in with tips, opportunities to join exclusive conference calls, and other mini challenges to help boost your fundraising throughout the month.
Good luck, and thanks for all you’re doing for this campaign!
Can TODville do this do you think?
Oops! Saw this at
Oh – this is fantastic! As a foreigner, I can’t participate, but good luck to all who will raise funds. 20,000 donations doesn’t seem like an impossible number. good luck!
Theo I know you’re Canadian, but since you’re a legal permanent resident of California then you can donate money to the campaign can’t you? I’m sure it’s allowed.
Yes, it is allowed.
Well we should certainly try….Chipsticks deserves to have that one on one with the President…..he can schedule her lunch date at the White House Jan 2013.
Sue, I don’t think you want to put the President through this:
Chipsticks, you know he would swoop down and pick you up…think of it a chance to be in his arms ;) I’m noticing the purse, I think you better leave the grenade launcher at home…seriously, it’s not good to piss off the SS. This would be a dream come true, Pete Souza snapping your picture. Overnight you would become Ireland’s newest celebrity…Henry Healey move over. Maybe you and BWD could pretend to be cojoined twins, a twofer.
I think we could get this done…would you consider devoting a post to the idea tomorrow? We all could toss it around..you probably have at least 20,000 vistors a day….we could put up a temporary toll booth. Seriously, I hope you will consider it.
The thought of you talking to President Obama…. I can’t get the smile off my face for the thought of it.
Rahmbo announces 400 new jobs for Chgo, has announced 4600 new jobs since assuming office:
Chipsticks you work fast Chica. Thanks for uploading the video, because the WH feed kinda acted wonky for me. President Obama could be a model for Colgate, Crest, Aquafresh, and any other toothpaste company! I like the picture of the President and the NASCAR guys all lined up on the podium.
Two very handsome dudes. Very nice picture.
Wow He has a gorgeous smile. It’s, like, perfect. I’m so glad he has the wonderful first lady, because if he was a bachelor, secret service would have an even harder time than they do now! :)
The reason why the GOP is mad at the EPA is because she fines companies everyday!
She is strict!
I am sure the treasury likes her ! Lol!
