    From Booman: http://networkedblogs.com/mL19o

“My impression after talking to senior White House officials is that the president is going a little larger than we’ve been led to expect. I’m not authorized to give details of the plan, but I think it will be worth watching his speech because he will be making some news. Keeping in mind that the jobs plan is kind of a hybrid between actually trying to improve the economy and the jobs situation on the one hand, and scoring political points on the other, I think they’ve done a good job.”

I just read this. I trust Booman’s analysis. He’s always very reasonable and realistics

      September 8, 2011 at 6:46 pm

$300B was leaked, so the little less than $450B number rumored could be legit. The political points will come in the fact that it’s all paid for and all the proposals have had broad bi-partisan support in the recent past.

CNN just listened into Biden and Boehner’s conversation. Boehner was thrilling Biden with his golf game, telling about his birdies, wished he could have played 9 more etc. Boehner’s golf schedule was probably the real reason Obama couldn’t speak last night.

Rev. Al has the MSNBC “prime time dead” opinionators on. Here are the words I picked up on, from their intros about the speech:

Rachel: people are feeling “hopeless and that’s not a good thing for any country” (Debbie Downer)

Lawrence: “attempt at a governing speech (attempt because he has to get Republicans to go along with him)” (Tried to Sound Intellectual)

Ed: Wow – nothing much bad – even said “the President has the wind at his back tonight” and “this is not about solidifying his base; it’s about solidifying the economy” and “nothing wrong with his saying: Buy American” (What? Did somebody get to Ed?)

Chris: (spitting) “A great leader has to be feared as well as loved … people don’t fear him” (The Third Reich is gone, Chris … so is Gaddafi, for all intents and purposes … welcome to the 21st century)

      The President’s Speech

      by BooMan

My impression after talking to senior White House officials is that the president is going a little larger than we’ve been led to expect. I’m not authorized to give details of the plan, but I think it will be worth watching his speech because he will be making some news…

I believe the ideas in the president’s speech will be put into a Senate bill and it will move with Reid and Durbin’s leadership..

The president is going to spend the next couple of months pushing this bill, and we can either support him in those efforts or we can stand on the sidelines flinging poo.

I’ll let you make up your mind after you see the speech and learn what’s in the bill…

  35. September 8, 2011 at 7:04 pm

The threat is directed towards ny and dc. Well, guess that steps all over his jobs message!

    Always something!

  36. September 8, 2011 at 7:05 pm

Bob Schieffer says the speech has a pugnacious tone – go Mr.President!!

PBO’s asking for gradual reform of Medicare and Medicaid. “We have to reform Medicare to strengthen it.” Lindsay Graham just stood up (oh, no, Mr. President, you put Lindsay in range of the camera!).

No ‘backbiting’ in his approach, so that when he points their recalcitrance out while campaigning it’s nothing he hasn’t said before their faces. Nothing ‘weak’ here.

Just finished watching the speech from the white house live stream. Loved the graphics that accompanied the speech and listening without the snarky pundit comments. Everything that PBO said was reasonable and easy to understand; no need for so-called professional analysis. This was a clear, no nonsense, call to arms for congress and the public. At the end, he reminded me of that scene from The American President at that final press conference. Let’s hope and pray, while we harrass our senators and representatives with various forms of communication, that congress will finally get its act together a get the job done.

I was thinking the same thing. ABC did the same thing – they spent more time talking about a possible terror alert than the President’s speech. They had nothing to criticize and they knew it. The GOP members looked terrible and the MSM is quickly trying to change the subject. Especially after that assclown show on MBNBC last night, our President is a CLASS ACT and the media knows it.

I laughed when he was going on and on about all the changes they had to make today after Repub debate—–and then when Carney came on, he asked anxiously, “How much did you have to change in the speech today?” And Carney said, “Nothing.” I laughed. It was beautiful.

Didn’t these people hear what the President said? No cuts to the people receiving Medicare and Medicaid now, but there is afew things we can do to make sure it is around for future generations, that’s what he said.

To me that don’t sound like he is trying to get rid of Medicare or Medicaid. He wants to make sure it is around for future generations. And people who are receiving it now will not be affected. Let me say this, I am still proud of President Obama, because tonight I saw someone who want to fight for the American people who are suffering. Forget all the pundits and know it all, but listen to the President who speaks of helping those who need help, those who are out there suffering. President Obama was on fire!!!!!! He took no prisoners tonight. He kept repeating “You should pass this right away!” He called out the aothers, he called out the GOP members from Houston, Kentucky, and Ohio who have poor construction and should be championing this bill. He called out the republicans for passing payroll taxes and unemployment benefits in past years and not doing it now. He laid down the gauntlet and told them he would take this plan to every corner of the country. Starting tomorrow he’s going to Richmond, Virginia, who’s from Virginia; Eric Cantor. He’s going to Ohio to sell the plan. Who’s from Ohio; John Boehner. He’s taking the plan to California and the East Coast. All the idiotic pundits who wrote this President off never seem to learn their lesson and end up looking like complete and utter fools. Never ever count President Obama out. Never.

He told Eric Cantor back during the debt limit debate that he was taking his case directly to the American people. You have imagine there were a few sphincter muscles tightening up on the GOP side tonight. It was obvious before the speech that they were getting a bit nervous. Clearly, the contrast between those 8 bunglers last night and the brilliant and elegant President Obama could not be more stark.

President Obama is taking is show on the road. As I see it, the Republican Party has two options. They can put country before party and start acting like adults and real patriots or they can continue their attempt to sabotage the economic recovery and pay the consequences at the ballot box. Of course, we will have to work like hell to prevent them from rigging the election with their repulsive and illegal voter id laws. Fraud is the only way that they win.

Great Forum on whitehouse.gov livestreaming now answering questions. Purpose of act is two-fold, the first is to provide additional support for get economic environment up in short term and address deficit problem in the long term.

3 points of how individuals can help pass the bill.

First, Get informed, there are fact sheets available on whitehouse.gov with legislation papers available next week. Secondly, figure out how to tell this story in your own community. What this Act will mean to them? Third, think of every means of communication to get the message out…blog, tweet, email etc. to get congress to pass the bill now.

They want so desperately to be relevant. In their heart of hearts, they can’t believe how brilliant President Obama is. He makes them feel small and insignificant. Their only defense is the power to set the narrative, to question everything he does. They have the luxury of sitting on their perches and telling PBO what he should be doing. They have some nerve. So we heard the President’s speech. What are YOU going to do about it?

As past negotiations have shown, the American Jobs Act bill that President Obama is proposing, will either be shut down by Congress, or, will be cut back to a shell of it’s original intent.

Question then is, what can WE do about it?

In 2008, when the President ran with the slogan “Yes We Can”, he did mean “WE”. But did we follow through? We abandoned our responsibilities by not following through with our representative, buy not voting, and by handing over the majority in Congress to the Tea Party.

Yes We Can, is a collective cry, so we have to act collectively. Let us do our part and support the President so that this bill passes. Call, email, tweet, write your representative. Tell them you support the President and you support the bill.

As the President said, people are out of work now. They are hurting now. Elections are still fourteen months away and we don’t have the luxury to wait fourteen months. We must act now!

Go here to find your representative and contact them now.

Mary, I have had concerns about her too. I raised the question of her health when she wasn’t as visible during their vacation, but folks here felt that she was just lying low with her girls before they went back to school. She has been such an active and visible FLOTUS that when we don’t see her it does make us wonder – in a caring way. All we can do is uphold her with prayers (for those who pray) and positive thoughts, I guess.

I’m not worried about her and I wish folks would stop speculating. She wasn’t in the spotlight recently because her children were home for the summer and she spent time with them. She cannot act as though she is on the campaign trail because this was not a stump speech or a state dinner, but a solemn and urgent cry for congress to get people back to work. I believe that’s why she wore a dress that she had worn before.

Personally, I have concerns about her, but not worrisome. I noticed how unusually glum she looked once they returned from vacation. She is usually more upbeat, and now tonight she was a little solemn. I’ve deduced it to either 1.) she hates the attacks on her husband and wishes she could do something about or 2.) she may be going through early menopause. I began this cycle around the same age as she is and it was a shock to my emotions. Of course, if she is going through the change, then I would feel certain she wishes she can cuss somebody out about her sweetheart. Those mood swings are no joke.

        • 470 FTL
          September 8, 2011 at 9:17 pm

I agree about the vacation pics. Maybe she was upset because she feels they will not give PBO any rest. I am not sure about the menopause thing. Also the girls are getting older I am sure they have heard some of the ignorant mess that these fools say.

I’ll give her permission to kick ass, in my head of course. I am not usually a worrier, not for people I can connect with physically. This is new territory for me, to care really deeply about people that you can’t exactly reach out and touch, or check in on or call up on the phone…..so now I find myself worrying a bit.

OMG…how I have forgotten about menopause…..the 2 things that I had enormous difficulty with, nuclear meltdown hot flashes- my guy could feel the heat radiating off the top of my head , but even worse was the brain drain…..I had so much trouble with my thought processes, and my ability to focus. I hope reports of Michelle having a cold, or allergies are what we are seeing, and not menppause…that needs to wait until at least 2014…for her sake and probably the Presidents :D

StR, Here we are starting things concerning the First Lady. This is how rumors get started. Why not lay off unless we have some facts. I guess I didn’t see all this you all saw. Maybe she has been out of the spotlight recently because it was time for the girls to go back to school, shopping and everything, and maybe she just wanted some quite time with the girls before they went back to school. She is Mom before she is First Lady. Her girls are more important than being First Lady. Mom in chief, remember. And on vacation we did see her out with the President on their Date night, and we saw the family out on a bike ride.

I don’t get the “Drilling = Jobs” guy. In what context is it ever appropriate for an elected official to bring a protest sign while the President of the United States is speaking. They forget they when the diminish respect for the presidency with this President, they diminish it for all future Presidents. And secondly, how many jobs would drilling create? Would it be enough to bring down the unemployment rate significantly? What happens after there’s nothing else left to drill? Would it generate enough jobs to justify you holding a sign at a joint session of congress?

Tea partiers are spammers, who take advantage of the audience that the President attracts, to push their messages. If their movement is as big as they claim, then a simple plea to your hordes via a letter should do the trick.

I am sick of these childish, disrespectful, lowlifes and their unprecedented tackiness.

President Obama Deserves Nothing But Respect!

Not only do they diminish the office of the president, but they diminish the US and themselves, too, but of course, they seem incapable of thinking beyond the second in which they find themselves. They don’t consider that billions of people may be watching the broadcast as long as they get their jollies by “showing Obama he isn’t all that.” They don’t seem to know that millions of people around the world respect PBO even if they don’t.

My boo was brilliant. I managed to view some of the speech, although a bit choppy, from my phone.

I think he gave the speech in a way that shows the Teabaggers and the media, WHOS THE BOSS.

Those of you who heard LOD lie about Medicare, write him and tweet the world about his lies. We watched on C-Span, I refuse to listen to any of those self-iportant talking heads. I turned the speech off as soon as it was over. You were absolutely right on what the President said about Medicare…..he wants to strengthen it. I have decided these people don’t LISTEN….they make up their minds what is going to be said and talk about that…….
Thanks for the donation link…I donated too. That made it easy, I didn’t have to check back through my email…..which I would have done, but this was easy.

Carolyn, I did the same exact thing. That’s why I only watch his speeches on C-Span. I remember when I was watching the debates on HBO, and they would say McCain was winning the debates, but their own graphs would be showing the opposite.

Wow…your president is great. If commonsense prevail, he should win the upcoming election by a country mile. My enthusiasm however is dampen by the fact that your fellow countrymen voted for George Bush twice and Sarah Palin is still viewed as knowledgeable. (Excuse me while i try to control my laughter). I only wish I was over there where I could lend my support to this great man. Have you any idea how popular this man is outside of the US? Please, do yourselves and the world a big favor and elect President Obama to a second term. The world needs him to continue his great work. Have a great night everyone and an even better day tomorrow.

Hello Robert!!!!! I like you a lot. Thanks so much for saying this: 1. cause it’s true, but 2. because sometimes we need to be reminded that people outside of this country can see and understand what this man-PBO- is all about. It’s great to see him getting the love and appreciation he absolutely deserves -but doesn’t get here- from people like you. Thanks so much.

Thanks for your support of our President Robert….we are blessed indeed. America has some problems, no doubt….one very big problem is our MSM….our major outlets are pretty much corporate run and invested in their bottom lines. What you see reflected through them is an alternate reality of sorts.

Sarah Palin is a frickin joke…..look for her to be exposed in the days and months to come….she is a manufactured political celebrity brought to you by a collaboration of GOP tops hogs and the MSM. IMO, she is a lying, hateful, narcissistic opportunist…nope, I have nothing good to say about her.

We are working hard to re-elect of President, for America and for the world. Thanks for being in our corner. We want a peaceful and mutually respectful world.

I had hope again. I felt proud to be an American. The pres. Brought us up to his level instead of allowing us to be brought down in the mud like the republicans have been doing

What I like is the pictures when he is smiling at his enemies before his speech. That gorgeous smile is deceptive sometimes. He was going in for the kill. That smile threw them off guard. This man is the ultimate strategist. What brilliance!

I thought I was saying good nite on the next thread, but in response to your comments. I was listening to a local sports talk show host, and he said he learned that in any sporting event, or fight, you have to be strategic….you may not get your shot just yet, you may have to pull back a bit and just wait for that moment…sort of like Ali’s rope-a-dope, which in this case, rope-a-“dope” is pretty apt. PBO has learned from the streets of Chicago, yet maintains that sincerety of purpose his mother instilled in him. One should never underestimate him.

Just got on my (new) Twitter account and tweeted my Senator, Marco (Come Mierda) Rubio. I told him to “PASS THE BILL. PASS IT NOW. I don’t have 14 months for you to get you head our of your ass.”
