Aaron Blake and Chris Cillizza (Washington Post): It hasn’t been a good month for President Obama, but beneath it all, the American people are still ready to hear him out when it comes to his jobs plan.
And in fact, at first glance, they seem to like it.
Two new polls show more Americans like the president’s jobs plan than dislike it. A CNN/Opinion Research poll shows 43 percent favor Obama’s jobs plan, while 35 percent oppose it. And Gallup shows an even wider gap, with 45 percent in favor and 32 percent opposed.
… The CNN poll shows more people trust Obama (46 percent) than Republicans (37 percent) to deal with the economy. And it also shows Americans think job creation (65 percent) is more pressing than cutting the deficit (29 percent).
…. those numbers suggest an American public that could jump back on board with the president.
The GOP still isn’t held in as high a regard on the economy, and it appears more focused on an issue – the budget – that voters say is a lower priority. Obama, by contrast, is the one people trust more, and his White House has been focused like a laser on the people’s clear top priority, jobs, for a while now.

I laughed at NBC Nightly News tonight—–they did a segment on Obama losing support with African Americans—–and I thought ‘oh no, here we go again, trying to chip away at one of Obama’s base constituencies’——and they show Smiley and West and Waters——and they include that part of the interview with Obama where BriWi asked him about this Big Problem—–and Obama answered perfectly and reasonably and in the best way possible, as is his habit—–and they included a segment with Lester Holt talking about this Big Problem—–and then at the end they show the most recent NBC poll which had AA approval of Obama at 92%. I wasn’t surprised, but what was all that about??? I swear, our media has lost all their marbles.

His bus tour was a success, he handled Irene like a pro, Liyba was a success, he injected himself into a delicate situation in Cairo with success, he is bringing a nation to its feet engaging them in the AJA, 2 Al Qaeda operatives has bit the bullet, he brought closure to 9/11, and touched many lives in that process, he had a little bit of time on the golf course, and some time with his family on a working/vacation…..what script are these guys reading off when they imply Obama has had a bad month? Actually looking at him laughing so freely, it occurred to me that the fact he laughs so readily and eagerly undoubtedly contributes to his calm. When was the last time you saw one of the GOPers laughing, really laughing?

The AJA Q&A was very informative and in words that everyone could hear and understand. I thought it was excellent! The President has surrounded himself with some very qualified people!

I remember when I worked for the Navy. Any time a large-scale “change” was coming on (like a reorganization or something big), they pulled out the latest “change management” training. The entire workforce was required to attend, to start developing coping skills, and there were follow-on discussions, in order for everybody to be able to accept the change as reality. There’s always a group who has to be brought forward, kicking and screaming.
Unfortunately, I’d like to scream at and kick some of the dolts in our country who don’t get it! President Obama is an excellent leader – get with the program!

This is indicative of what the media has always done. I remember when they did stories like this all the time and even then GOS would have a large bitchfit over what NewsAnchor “so and so” said and what the Republicans and John McCain would do about it and how Barack Obama needs to get on top of this. You had those same commentators and reporters saying that he was doomed, this was the October Surprise, that this would seal the deal for John McCain and Sarah Palin in their quest for the Presidency and Vice Presidency. Remember, “Why can’t he close the deal?” “Why is he getting so presumptuous in his quest for election?” “Will John McCain take all of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s voters?” “Why can’t he win over Lynn Forrester de Rotheschild, that rich bitch’s vote” (Okay, they didn’t say that one, but damnit thats how I feel about that woman) Then, you would view Senator Obama’s gargantuan rallies as well as the polling which told everything that was the opposite of what the media said.
This is today’s media for you. They don’t report news, they try and shape narratives. Narratives, which ought to be banned from the news media’s lexicon of words, is what they are in business for. It doesn’t matter if it is wrong and the research into the subject vastly egregious, just push it out there. It will be the same in the 2012 election, and we ALL need to get ready for it.
