President Obama meets with the Libyan National Transitional Council Chairman Mustafa Abdel Jalil
… with Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai
… with French President Nicolas Sarkozy
…. with Qatar Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani
This tax thing has brought all the roaches out of the woodwork. They complained PBO wasn’t leading. Now that he’s kicking ass, they’re clutching their pearls. They don’t realize it’s too late — the whole conversation has changed. Whether they do the responsible thing or not via legislation, taxes on the rich will go up (if just by letting the Bush cuts expire). Americans are primed for “shared sacrifice” and it only took a few short months to get them there. Checkmate.

GA Board Of Pardons Rejects Clemency For Troy Davis
The AP reports:
Georgia’s pardons board rejected Tuesday a last-ditch plea for clemency from death row inmate Troy Davis despite high-profile support for his claim that he was wrongly convicted of killing a police officer in 1989.
Just saw that Fred, beyond belief. There is clearly doubt about the safety of this conviction, but yet they’re good with executing him. Just don’t know what to say.
I’m a little embarrassed to say I know almost nothing about this case (I’m relatively young, don’t judge me). I’m also googling it by the way.
I just can’t believe this. I don’t even know how this can be. Is there any further recourse? State Supreme Court? OMG, this is heartbreaking.
I just don’t understand it – how they can continue on when everything points to so much doubt on his guilt. I don’t understand how anyone with a conscience can allow this to be done.
Click on my avatar and look at the left side. Unfortunately there are still a lot of ppl that think we should still be in that era. Witness the fact that there are ppl who still refuse to accept PBO as president. Ask yourself way. Do you doubt that if it were not for the SS PBO would be alive?
Incredibly image. Do you mind if I tweet it from the source URL?
By all means. Anything i post here is fair game. i’m too old to hide or care. Maybe it will get around and piss off someone on the right.
You’re the best. I agree. Thanks.
Yard that is a powerful avatar. I’ll be sharing that as well.
Go for. Glad i could make some kind of contribution to anyone in this village.
It’s very sad, but what do we spect from Georgia is the South and very predigist.
This isn’t good. There are so many holes in that case and the convcition and to treat it as a slam dunk is a stain on the justice system of Georgia.
THEY DO NOT WANT TO ADMIT THAT THEY MADE A MISTAKE…SO THEY WOULD RATHER KILL HIM…AFTER ALL WHAT IS ONE LESS BLACK MAN
I agree that they don’t want to admit their mistake, I’ve seen this before- within the legal community, and also within the medical community, the determination to go forward on something they know is wrong and to ignore what they don’t agree with. This whole thing is heartbreaking for Mr. Davis, for his family.
It’s in the South, it’s a black man, and was the cop kill a white man? That’s all I’ve got to say.
Obama On DADT Repeal: Service Members Will No Longer Have To ‘Lie About Who They Are’
Celebrating the repeal of the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, President Obama said “patriotic Americans in uniform will no longer have to lie about who they are in order to serve the country they love.”
Read Obama’s full statement below:
Today, the discriminatory law known as ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ is finally and formally repealed. As of today, patriotic Americans in uniform will no longer have to lie about who they are in order to serve the country they love. As of today, our armed forces will no longer lose the extraordinary skills and combat experience of so many gay and lesbian service members. And today, as Commander in Chief, I want those who were discharged under this law to know that your country deeply values your service.
I was proud to sign the Repeal Act into law last December because I knew that it would enhance our national security, increase our military readiness, and bring us closer to the principles of equality and fairness that define us as Americans. Today’s achievement is a tribute to all the patriots who fought and marched for change; to Members of Congress, from both parties, who voted for repeal; to our civilian and military leaders who ensured a smooth transition; and to the professionalism of our men and women in uniform who showed that they were ready to move forward together, as one team, to meet the missions we ask of them.
For more than two centuries, we have worked to extend America’s promise to all our citizens. Our armed forces have been both a mirror and a catalyst of that progress, and our troops, including gays and lesbians, have given their lives to defend the freedoms and liberties that we cherish as Americans. Today, every American can be proud that we have taken another great step toward keeping our military the finest in the world and toward fulfilling our nation’s founding ideals.”
Tax Cuts 101
Easiest and most simple way argue for tax increases to grow the economy is this:
Under President George HW Bush taxes increased and the economy recovered.
Under President William Clinton taxes increased and the economy boomed.
Under President George W Bush taxes were cut and the economy took a nose dive.
Under President Obama thus far the tax cuts were kept thus little growth.
Even a child can understand this cause and effect talking point. The Bush Tax Cuts have to go so the economy can again grow.
Barack Obama is the best thing Israel has going for it right now. Why is that so difficult for Netanyahu and his American Jewish allies to understand?
A nice take on Rev. Al.
As construed by MSNBC, Mr. Sharpton will be a hybrid TV personality, a journalist-participant of sorts, both a maker and a deliverer of the news. “We are breaking the mold,” said Phil Griffin, the network’s president. “Anything he does on the streets, he can talk about on air — we won’t hide anything.”
I don’t trust Phil Griffen for a second.
Anything he does on the streets? Really?
Will the msm quote Gallup today? Gallup ain’t bad!
Nope. No good polls allowed.
What are the polls today Jovie?
It’s in every MSM contract. Bury good news for PBO. Amplify what your perceive to be bad news, especially when it is a blatant lie.
LOrd please have mercy and justice on Troy Davis.
Yes, I saw that they did not grant him clemecy this morning. I feel so bad for his family.
I see CNN is waiting to show Rick Perry speaking on Israel, policies, but nothing on PBO’s speech, unless I missed it.
Nope! CNN hired Himler as their propagandist consultant!
and I see CNN has added Ari Fleischer to its political commentators team, which tells you all you need to know about CNN. All recent hires have been increasingly rightward.
Don’t you mean Fox Jr. CNN disappear along time ago.
Where is Gaddafi?
Hiding in Libya safe houses!
They will not find him for years!
Unbelievable! Who does PPP poll? Andy Griffith in North Carolina???
Because of that ad he ran for HCR?
What is wrong with these pollsters?
Report: Sen. Lamar Alexander Resigns From GOP Leadership
Politico reports that Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-MO) will resign from his leadership post as Republican Conference chairman, the No. 3 job in the Senate GOP hierarchy and abandon his hopes to ascend to the Republican whip job in the next Congress.
In a letter sent to Republican senators this morning, Alexander says the decision was rooted in his desire to foster consensus in the gridlocked Senate, a role he felt he was unable to play while tasked with leading the Republican Conference.
‘Stepping down from leadership will liberate me to spend more time working for results on the issues I care most about,’ Alexander said in the letter. ‘I want to do more to make the Senate a more effective institution so that it can deal better with serious issues. There are different ways to provide leadership within the Senate. After nine years here, this is how I believe I can now make my greatest contribution.’
He likes infrastructure and green initiatives!
Conflict of interest?
WOW…I WONDER WHO TWISTED HIS ARM AND WHY
He is not right wing enough for them ?
Never though I’d say this, but good for Lamar Alexander. Hope his old-school-Republican hopes for “consensus” play out.
Rats starting to leave a sinking ship?
PPP will probably poll Laverne and Shirley next? Or what about Lenny and squiggey? Lol!
(VIDEO):Fox’s Brit Hume: Who Cares If Income Inequality Is High?
Rasmussen polling is six points ahead of Gallup, 46% approve of the presidents job!
Gallup is 40%
and Rasmussen is a slanted republican poll, so what does that make Gallup?
Gallup has been horrible the last couple of months……
Gallup has been horrible since the owner complained that PBO’s number were too high. How convenient that magically his number went down. Dumb as it sounds, Rasmussen is probably the best poll to watch because it is no secret it’s republican. The poll numbers have kept steady, occasionally going over 50% but mostly 45 -47. It is probably closer to reality than Gallup lately.
CNN just hired Ari Fleischer who said Saddam Hussein attacked us on 9-11
I can’t even bear to see Fleischer’s face, much less listen to his voice. Who would want to watch his drivel for even five minutes? Another bad decision from CNN, on their way to the lowest ratings ever.
Even Jon Stewart, in a Rolling Stone article, said CNN was the worst of any of the cable “news” channels. At least at Fox, they don’t pretend – you know what you’re going to get.
Just to top it off, I got an email from TYT, even though I’d unsubscribed a LONG time ago. I knew this would happen. Just a snippet from the self congratulatory email. I cannon stomach Cenk!!!
“September 20, 2011 – Award-winning Current TV will bring the wildly
popular and informative host Cenk Uygur to its network in a primetime
slot to host “The Young Turks;” Uygur’s uniquely progressive and
topical show about politics and pop culture, each week night at 7 p.m.
The rest is just how great he is and about his meeting with Al Gore – or something. Could barely finish it. Well, good luck with Current. Does anyone really watch that channel?
I do not mean to offend anyone with my choice of language and characterization, but I choose it deliberately: How much do you figure these anchor bimbos make at the networks? A lot, right? Does it all go for hairspray and make-up, because I question whether they have basic 9th grade history.
On MSNBC Negroponte, of all people, said that Israel is going to have to negotiate. That Israel cannot expect to remain completely alienated from the Arab world of which, geographically, it is a part and expect to be supported in their positions.
And the anchor bimbo asks — I kid you not — “will there be an agreement [on a Palestian peace and state] by Friday?”
How much money does she earn to be that phenomenally stupid?
Negoponte — as neocon as they get, looked at her like she had two heads (who could breathe with all that hairspray) and quietly said, “No.”.
Maybe the bimbo should have asked negroponte about the secret Muslim in the WH! Lol!
57andFemale – It’s just mind boggling.
Perry Will Reportedly Make Radical Debt Plan ‘The Centerpiece Of His Platform’
Bill Hoagland, a budget adviser to Republican leaders from 1982 to 2007, called the amendment “a political cheap shot,”
while Scott Galupo, a former staffer for Boeher, has called the idea “quite simply, insane.”
So, Perry has locked up an empty centerpiece for his empty platform. He barely would understand what that means, much less what “radical debt plan” looks like or doesn’t look like. Ludicrous.
A HISTORY OF ‘DON’T ASK, DON’T TELL”‘
After 17 years, the controversial policy has been repealed. Here’s how it happened.
Source: Netanyahu Agreed With Obama On 1967 Lines All Along (what a tool )
Now, John Heilemann reports in New York magazine that Netanyahu had agreed with Obama all along. “I’ve been in more than one meeting with Bibi where he used the same language to describe the outlines of a deal,” one official says. “It’s outrageous — attacking the president for something he didn’t say, claiming he was putting Israel’s security at risk for stating out loud a position Bibi himself holds privately.”

… and just had to call me either ‘dumb’ or a ‘fascists’ … classy guy, but then we all knew that
Yes.We.Can. … DO.More.Together!
Ha. Saw that. I wonder how it is that PBO “deserves it” according to KO. ????

I heard the President speak this morning, and once again he gives credit to all countries involved in helping Libya, including the United States; to the UN and NATO, and – most importantly – to the Libyan people.
Global leadership heard around the world, and wonderful to see. Makes us all proud of our country, doesn’t it?
but…but….but……He has NO foreign policy !!!!!!! I heard it on cable news…..it must be true
Yes, he must just be winging it. Or maybe it’s something somebody put through the teleprompter, for him to read! Let’s ask Rick Perry what he thinks.
CNN is bashing PBO as i type this. His foreign policy toward Israel is in question. People, i guess, fail to see that PBO ain’t the president of Israel. They have their own fish to fry.
Good Morning TOD family
CALL TO ACTION
Lets take all that energy that biased MSM seems to have stirred up and funnel it into cations that will help the President.
IN an earlier thread someone asked if there was a list of SUPER COMMITTEE members, there is , I added a new section to the “Contact the Gov.” page. the names and contact info for the committee can be found here.
I would ask everyone to call 2-3 members near where you live.
I will again ask the question I posted several weeks ago.
“What if every hour we spent posting to this blog was matched with an hour of action to help President Obama? How powerful would that be?
“What if every hour we spent posting to this blog was matched with an hour of action to help President Obama?”
Very very powerful WIW. Thank you. Let’s get to it TOD family and friends.
Yes! Very helpful that list WIW! now on my lunch hour and just going over it.
meant to say “funnel it into actions that will help the President.”
WiW don’t know if you’ve seen this but i found it to be informative:http://www.newseum. http://www.newseum.org/todaysfrontpages/flash/
I love the Newseum and their front pages section!
I follow Sam Graham-Felsen on twitter because he used to be the blog administrator at OFA during the 2007-08 campaign. He just retweeted this BS:
@markos Markos Moulitsas
Last couple of days are proof progressives desperately want to fight for the president, if only he gives them material to work with
OMG. “Desperately” how, exactly? By running a blog full of hatred and abuse?
I sent markos a couple of tweets saying he should be fighting for the American people and that what the GOP intends to do when they enter office is enough of a reason to get off their ass. This is what’s wrong with the left. They think its all about Pres. Obama and don’t seem to understand that if he doesn’t get reelected WE are all fucked. Pres. Obama will be fine. WE won’t. If Pres. Obama didn’t get his bills signed WE would be fucked. I want Pres. Obama to succeed because in the end WE succeed.
I thought this was interesting—SEC investigating possible insider trading before S&P downgrade. Repub congressman obstruct, cause downgrade, inform buds on Wall St. that it’s going to happen. Insider trading—big money.
hmmmm…..I hope Eric Cantor is nervous about this.
SEC investigating possible insider trading before S&P downgrade huff.to/parhMG #CantorSweats
I LOVE THAT PIC OF THE PRESIDENT AND THE TRANSITIONAL CHAIRMAN OF LIBYA….
AP must be nervous. They have gone into overdrive in churning out anti-Obama articles. Every news website has a couple new anti-Obama stories. There’s this one, which is really designed to stir up fear: “Obama’s deficit plan tightens squeeze on Medicare”:
And another—”GOP candidates assail Obama on Israel”
It’s hard to keep up and keep correcting info everywhere.
Wow. How desperate must they be to make up complete filth? Medicare will not be “squeezed” in any way under the Obama administration. A lot of the writers at AP are big tools.

Cenk Uygur Joining Current TV
Former MSNBC host Cenk Uygur is joining Current TV to launch a new version of his show, “The Young Turks.” Watch the network’s announcement video — complete with awkward dialogue with former Vice President Al Gore — below:
Well, of course he is. It’s like the home for retired used-to-be starlets.
Well whoopty do. Prepare for another incessant round of PBO bashing in 3…2…1. Freaking whiny emoprogs.
Al Gore can take Current TV and shove it!! How he became a progressive hero is beyond me, I literally felt sick when i voted for him because he is anti-choice!!!!! He is more than happy to hire people to attack POTUS because President Obama is a real progressive.
Indeed. If all these “progressives” represent true progressive values, then maybe people need to reconsider calling themselves progressives. These professional left are not interested in making progress, just in making theater.
Rick Perry, Rupert Murdoch Met On Monday
Rick Perry met up with News Corporation chief Rupert Murdoch on Monday at an Upper East Side restaurant near Murdoch’s home, the New York Times reports.
NBC has also confirmed the meeting.
I met up with a costumed Barney the Friendly Dinosaur once, and nobody reported that.
Hahahahahahaha Good one.
Did Murdoch have to sneak in the back door like when he meets with David Cameron ?
Today’s parallel universe coverage … banner at bottom of screen on Andrea Mitchell Show about the President’s remarks at the UN: “Libya Victory Lap.” Huh? Did she actually listen to what he said? Next story about Perry saying President Obama is abandoning Israel, or some such nonsense. Huh? Now, Friar Tuck Chuck Todd is on. Not even one minute in, and I already must change this channel. MSNBC used to be the place to go. Sad, really, that they just don’t get it.
Sadly, it’s all hate and slanted!
They did not even do this to bush
Jacqueline I am sure you heard that Fox is still number one in the ratings, CNN no. 2, and MSNBC no. 3. I think MSNBC is rated last because they disguise themselves as liberals which is a farce. At least Fox lives up to their name and people know what to expect if they turn to that channel. I think that MSNBC would be more sucessuful if they were consistent. Watching MSNBC is like a roller coaster and this turns a lot of viewers off. I am one of those viewers who cut back on the MSNBC shows.
A little OT, I was listening to Richard Wolf on the Stephanie Miller show this morning, and he was saying that progressives keep asking where has this new Obama been? He agrees with us and says that people are totally dismissing his accomplishments and are acting like this is the frst thing that he has done.
Thanks for the recap on what Richard Wolf said this morning. Every day, President Obama – who has filled his Presidential portfolio with accomplishments since January 2009 – has the slate wiped clean, and has to start over in gaining any acknowledgement of his successes. This has got to be one of the most hateful political situations I’ve ever witnessed in my entire adult life. And I’m off to see if that will fit in a tweet!
They are always moving the goal posts. How so many people can deny the many progressive accomplishments of this President, amazes me. The “slate being wiped clean” daily is the perfect analogy.
History will tell the tale, and the President will write it down in a book for all to see.
PBO don’t look to please with that Karzai guy. I wouldn’t be either. He’s not on the up and up.
he knows Karzai is double-dealing him and he is trying his hardest to not call him out but you can see it in his face and body language
the President has a knack for smelling double-dealing weasels a mile away from Berlusconi to this punk
Fred It’s uncanny what you said! As soon as I saw that photo, I said to myself, PBO’s radar is working overtime here. His body language suggests that he does not trust this guy ( like the time he stood between Michelle and Berlusconi ). Yes you are right, he probably knows what this rogue is up to; his jaw is clenched and his eyes are flinty. If I were Karzai, I would be watching my flanks.
Good Afternoon TOD Family.
Have you called, tweeted, emailed or faxed your Rep and Senators today to ask them to support the AJA today?
Especially if you live in a red state please try and make this a daily occurrence.
For anyone who doesn’t have access to a fax machine but would like to send a fax to their Rep or Senator I will glady send your letters on a daily basis. Just send them to me at my TOD email address donnadem4Obama@gmail.com.
I admit to not hitting my Dem’s every day (Dick Durbin and my Democratic rep, Mike Quigley) although I get something to them at least 4 times/week.
I do not miss a day to push my repulsive senator, Mark Kirk. He lives in one of the few Midwestern states that would not succumb to tea party insanity in 2010 and is only in his seat because (1) not enough Dem’s bothered to vote; and (2) he doesn’t come off as a raging right wing loon. But right wing he is, and Republican. He is one Republican who could flip. If he stays staunch Republican he could lose this seat.
I was not clear: I don’t mean he’d flip to being a Democrat. But he could be someone who would break ranks with the loons and support some common sense legislation.
I still loathe him. Before the AJA speech before Congress, he emphasized that he respected the “office” of the President, implying that he had no respect for the duly elected POTUS.
I try to stay respectful and issue-oriented when I contact him, but it’s hard to not just pummel him for such veiled disrespect.

I’m in a shitty mood today regarding Troy Davis and this inept justice system in this country. Blood on its hands.
I live in Atlanta….I am hoping our Supreme Court steps in on this.
oh..one other thing. Our Supreme Court is taking up the issue of flawed eyewitness testimony in this years session. If I remember correctly, they are doing this on their own due to the fact that so many cases have been overturned due to flawed eyewitness accounts.
It was discussed here.
Thanks Linda. I’m listening to Rev Al now and they were just discussing the issue of jury tampering in this case, but lot of good that would do if it’s not addressed before tomorrow. So sad, but I am still praying. Also, he could not get a court appointed lawyer (Troy, that is), and could not afford counsel on his own. This is a sad inequity in this system.
I should clarify. I must have misheard Rev Al. If Troy couldn’t afford an attorney, of course he had a court appointed one.
This post is just too delicious for words. Once again, we have a Republican presidential candidate showcasing a small business and trashing President Obama’s economic policies. Unfortunately, Michele Bachmann and her inept staff picked a small business that has benefited from (wait for it) the largesse of the Obama administration. You can’t make this stuff up. I don’t expect any media coverage of this debacle. But maybe a few strategic tweets will get the attention of the lazy media stenographers and get them to report on this HYPOCRISY.
BACHMANN HELPS BOLSTER OBAMA’S POINT
So, what’s the problem? As it turns out, OMJC Signal Inc. thrives thanks to government contracts — more than 80% of the company’s revenue comes from government — which allows it provide portable traffic lights, solar-powered bus-stop lights, and traffic cameras for projects nationwide.
The company’s CEO is a self-identified conservative Republican, who was apparently loath to ruin Bachmann’s appearance, but he conceded to reporters that his company benefited from the kind of projects promoted by President Obama and congressional Democrats.
Indeed, thanks to efforts like the Recovery Act, OMJC’s business “has been stable,” even when other local companies were forced to scale back.
Asked for an explanation, Bachmann’s spokesperson complained about health care reform and “excessive spending,” apparently unaware that the response doesn’t make sense under the circumstances.
Michele Bachmann, in other words, accidentally made Obama’s agenda look pretty good. She went to a plant that would suffer as a result of her policies, and which benefited as a result of Democratic policies. Republicans like to pretend the president’s efforts only help grow government, but here’s a private-sector plant that’s done very well because of government contracts.
Was glad to read about Lamar Alexander (R-TN) stepping down from his leadership position. No way to know if it had an effect, but I had two long and emotional phone conversations with an aide in his Knoxville office. Know Imade some excellent points and asked him some tough questions.

Yahoo Appears To Be Censoring Email Messages About Wall Street Protests.
Yahoo blocks users from sending e-mails about the OccupyWallSt.org website with a message claiming “suspicious activity”
Thinking about e-mailing your friends and neighbors about the protests against Wall Street happening right now? If you have a Yahoo e-mail account, think again. ThinkProgress has reviewed claims that Yahoo is censoring e-mails relating to the protest and found that after several attempts on multiple accounts, we too were prevented from sending messages about the “Occupy Wall Street” demonstrations.
Over the weekend, thousands gathered for a “Tahrir Square”-style protest of Wall Street’s domination of American politics. The protesters, organized online and by organizations like Adbusters, have called their effort “Occupy Wall Street” and have set up the website: http://www.OccupyWallSt.org. However, several YouTube users posted videos of themselves trying to email a message inviting their friends to visit the Occupy Wall St campaign website, only to be blocked repeatedly by Yahoo. View a video of ThinkProgress making the attempt with the same blocked message experienced by others (click full screen for a better view of the text):
ThinkProgress tried other protest websites, like AmericansforProsperity.org and TeaPartyPatriots.org, and both messages were sent smoothly. However, emails relating to the OccupyWallSt.org protest were blocked with the following message (emphasis added):
