Washington Post: Republicans in Washington have little love for President Obama’s jobs plan and his proposal to pay for it. But the president may find a warmer reception from Republicans governing on the local level.
The U.S. Conference of Mayors – a bipartisan national group for mayors of major cities – has openly embraced the American Jobs Act, with key Republican mayors offering high praise for the president’s infrastructure spending plan. And the group has come to Washington this week to press that point upon Congress, the White House, and the supercommittee.
Mick Cornett, the GOP mayor of Oklahoma City, welcomes the infrastructure spending that Obama has proposed in his jobs bill, explaining that mayors witness the impact of such investments on the ground level. “Mayors see up close the deferred maintenance that’s going on in nation’s cities … it’s just a ticking time bomb. We also know that it puts people to work,” he says.
Obama’s jobs plan proposes new infrastructure spending on everything from rebuilding schools to an infrastructure finance bank – all of which Cornett supports. “We need to be working on all of these really big picture items that are generational.”
….Cornett is skeptical that Obama’s jobs plan will be able to pass. But he credits the Obama administration for being far more receptive than the previous White House to hearing out the concerns of city leaders on the local level …. “There are a lot of things that government doesn’t do well. One of things that government does do well is build stuff,” he concludes.

From listening to this guy from Oklahoma city you get the idea or hope that all Republicans aren’t like what we see in Congress and the Senate. This guy see the bridges, the roads, the schools, etc.,etc., which need repair, and could put people back to work. those rightwing tea bag nuts in D.C. only see one thing. defeating this President. They don’t care how much people suffering, they will not do anything which might make the President look in good light. So if some bridge collapse and kill people, Boehner, McConnell and Cantor don’t care.
OT, Sorry but I am just flabbergasted. Well almost. But this just takes the cake. I just saw this report on NBC Chgo——then saw Think Progress also caught it, because they catch everything. But during the Chgo Bears game Sunday on FOX, these supposed newspaper headlines were flashed re. Bears QB, Jay Cutler, such as “Cutler lacks courage” and “Cutler’s no leader”, and the FOX analyst said they were from Chgo papers. The Chgo Trib did not recognize those headlines and pursued it and got FOX to admit they were fabricated. What??? Why??? We may be overly sensitive at our house, but we always feel the FOX announcers are always partial to whatever team the Bears are playing. (Chgo’s too Democratic and they have a black coach). No truth can ever be expected from FOX, even sports news:

Grrrrr. It’s as though they’ve infiltrated every last bit of society! “Do no harm” is certainly not their motto. Can you imagine what the people from FOX teach their kids?
Chips – You really have a glorious thing going here. There’s something for everybody (and we’re all somewhat different), not to mention the to-die-for images you find and share!
For the free spirits, there’s lot of timely information and data, to draw snippets from on their way to tweet or email or otherwise hound the Rs every minute or even just here and there! For the on-the-ground people, there’s knowledge about where to go and whom to see! For those who like structure, somebody will come forth asking for inputs. And there’s always an understated reminder (and direct links) to donate, when we can.
It’s a melting pot you’ve created, sugar! Well done!
I agree with you Ms. O’Boomer. I og into this site via my email first thing every morning. I am always anxious to see what news is trending. Since I live in SoCal, I usually have to catch up on all of the threads because Chips is a busy bee everyday.
Thanks Chips.
Ah Jacqueline, thank you!! I think the stuff I post just reflects my ever-changing moods: ecstatic, enraged, silly and hopeful. That kind of thing.
Thanks again, you’re a dote.
Our mayor in OKC is a Republican, but he is much more a civic minded person. He has led our city well, and knows our needs. Mayors live where real people live. They know the needs, and I believe, will drive the agenda. They need to.
carolyn it is to bad we don’t have more Republicans like your Mayor in Congress and the Senate.
Good for him.
Friends, O/T but HELP: Republican friend on FB just shared this: http://www.examiner.com/political-transcripts-in-national/health-care-fraud-ibm-made-900b-offer-to-obama-white-house-define-free?fb_comment=24071776. Please read it and give me some direction/advice or knowledge about this. First I’ve heard of it. I noticed the date on it is October 2010. Again, HELP!
Hi tnmtngirl, I don’t know anything about that story at all, when you Google it, it only comes up on the Examiner and a bunch of Teabagger sites – it doesn’t appear on any reputable site in my search …. which makes me suspicious. Also, we know what a right wing rag the Examiner is, and the author of the story – Devonia Smith – makes Bachmann seem liberal. If I find anything else I’ll let you know!
THANK YOU!!!!! Appreciate it. For now, just ignore on FB, correct?
The Examiner prints made up lies. That is a year old, and obviously had no truth to it.
