A quiet day for the President
I’ll be away from my computing machine for a few hours today, so there were won’t be many updates, but I’ll catch up with everything later – see you then
@ that schedule!
i hope the Prez makes it out of bed in the morning …
CHIPS! Thanks for everything. See ya tomorrow! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Thank YOU PJ, see ya tomorrow
PJ, who needs sleep when “Who knows what will happen?” happens?
Watch Obama live now at U.N.
And while watching, perhaps light a candle for Troy Davis.
Wow Chips, I am exhausted already looking at that schedule.
That schedule is a real doozy Not to be believed. I don’t know how he does it. And he always handles everything so beautifully, effortlessly. He’s one in a bazillion.
Good night Family, may tomorrow be a productive day for MY president. See you tomorrow.
Good night Family. Chips, I never ever tire of these two videos. Thank you. May angels kiss yours and our President’s lids with deep refreshing sleep tonight. What a day ahead!
Holy moly look at that schedule. From the minute he gets up in the morning he’s going, going, going. Every second is mapped out. May tomorrow be a productive and fruitful day for President Obama and his administration.
Holy Shit just by looking at the schedule makes so tired. so mr president please have a good night
sleep. But the MSM will tell about how PBO is not doing his JOB!!!! so Buenas Noches Amigos her at TOD
tomorrow will be a wonderful day and CHIPSTICKS a BIG THANKS. for a great job doing for us.
And remember how the lazy media stenographers were obsessing about the “OPTICS” of President Obama being on a “working” vacation in Martha’s Vineyard. Let’s see how many of the jackals will be obsessing about President Obama’s busy schedule since returning from that working vacation. crickets…..
I expect the next time President Obama takes a few well deserved days off, the media stenographers will get amnesia about how hard he works and will again obsess about the optics. They just can’t help themselves.
Love “Hey President Obama!”, gonna listen now. Thanks Chips. I like a little music every now and then.
Chips, you are the very best and thak you!
Here’s a tweet from Knoller; “If asking a billionaire to pay same tax rate as a teacher makes me a “warrior for the middle class, I wear it as a badge of honor,” says O.
Tell Knoller I said to go to hell!
When this President is done in 2017 there will be a collective depressed mood. Even the MSM won’t know what to talk about. We will surely miss among many things, the energy of this President and his administration.
G’nite everyone and see ya tomorrow.
I can’t believe this schedule……wow
Do you guys remember when RW Mark Knoller tweeted the AP report on the President’s tax plan?
”The data say they already are,” the AP wrote, noting that the average tax rate for those in the highest tax brackets is, of course, higher than the average rate for middle-class or low-income Americans.”
”as Center for American Progress Action Fund Director of Fiscal Reform Seth Hanlon wrote, “tons of data — including data cited in the AP article itself — confirm the compelling need for a Buffett rule because large numbers of super-rich individuals are indeed paying lower taxes than middle-class families“:”
Well this is interesting
Fact-Checking The Fact-Checkers: The AP Releases Misleading Analysis Of Obama’s Tax Plan
I don’t expect a retraction from him of course but it will be nice to send this fool this information.
This is infuriating. This false AP story was sent far and wide, to community newspapers across the country. I tried to correct the info in comments on websites everywhere I saw it, but this is negligence by the AP, sloppy. Agenda-driven. Disgusting.
I didn’t see it earlier, just catching up, good for you to do that doster3, that’s all we have really! Writing comments, social networks, emails.
Agenda-driven is right,.
The AP #NEWSTAINERS Release Misleading Analysis Of Obama’s Tax Plan bit.ly/nH2rop No Surprise but still harmful to all Americans
I copied your tweet Bobfr, but the link didn’t show up and I can’t seem to find it. Can you post it here? Thanks.
What is disgusting is these so call journalists who suppose to be fair and balance is so anti-Obama they don’t care who knows it. They will lie in a second and they don’t care. This Knoller dude out to be fire by CBS.
That is one heck of a busy day. I don’t know how he does it and I commend him for doing so. Hope he is safe and blessed throughout the day.
And… “I hope you all behave in my absence, but – huh – I doubt it.” LOL. Chips, have a little faith.
Night all. Love Love
My favorite clip, Brazil…for the pictures and the song Nocturne, it always move me. The combination of both is amazing.
Tonight I can’t stop thinking about Troy Davis and listening to Nocturne just got to me, …………tears.
It’s just so ********* sad,.
On the sunniest of sunny days earlier this month at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Let’s Move! was alive with action packed fun. The First Lady joined tennis greats Billie Jean King, John McEnroe, James Blake and Serena Williams in serving, lobbing and smashing tennis balls with children from the Harlem Junior Tennis and Education Program and the New York Junior Tennis League. The stars and First Lady kept up pretty well with the junior acers.
The occasion for the mini-tournament was to highlight the importance of physical activity and celebrate the US Tennis Association’s (USTA) successful implementation of their commitments to build or refurbish thousands of tennis courts in cities all over the United States so that children and youth can have access to the “sport of a lifetime”. The USTA was also demonstrating the new Ten-and-Under tennis courts that are making tennis accessible to more and more younger children. No longer will a seven-year-old get discouraged when the racquet is too heavy or the net is almost as tall as she is. Scaled down to child size, the new Ten-and-Under courts keep children in the center of the picture…right on center court.
Chipsticks I totally agree with you on your loathing of Jon Stewart. He’s an out and out asshole. He deserves to be smacked HARD. He’s all out war and disdain for PBO is nauseating. Frankly, Jon is a scumbag and in my opinion doesn’t deserve any of the Emmy’s he got on Sunday. Colbert does a 100% better job every freaking night and it pisses me off that he doesn’t get the accolades he deserves. Instead the bigwig idiots give it to Stewart for his incessant bashing of PBO. Ron Suskind was his guest tonight and Stewart didn’t even question the fact that Suskind has multiple factual errors in his book. He basically praised Suskind for his “great investigative work.” Stewart called PBO passive, a great campaigner but lousy at governing. That PBO sat back and allowed his economic team to give him a huge wedgie. That anytime he tried to be a leader, his economic team would smack him down and PBO would take it lying down. Stewart then questioned President Obama’s judgement on everything. Really?!!! So, Stewart’s definition of a passive President is one who saves/created 3 million jobs in 2.5 years, passed ACA, repealed DADT, obtained more power for the FDA and EPA. Got credit card reform, wallstreet reform, created the CFPB, put two women on the Supreme Court, passed a hate crimes bill that makes sure that the LGBT community won’t be discriminated against, passed a child nutrition bill and on and on and on and on.
Thank goodness for Stephen Colbert. Right now he’s washing away the bile and filth that is Jon Stewart and the Daily Show.
He really seem to like Ron Paul.
Isn’t it just like Bill Maher at this point? He’s been on my boycott list for a while.
He did the same thing with the Solyndra ”scandal”
Now praising the great investigative work of Sunkind., please!
The agenda is clear.
How many times did he say in interviews that he was disappointed with the President
He did say that he didn’t know if he would vote for him in 2012.
Yea vote for Perry or Romney you moron….or Ron Paul,.
Jon ”I’m just a comedian ” Stewart” is a joke, not a funny joke, a pathetic joke.
My opinion of Jon Stewart is well known, I never like the guy, he never was that funny to me, and it wouldn’t bother me if him and his piece of garbage he call a show were to disappear.
I wonder where the Jon Stewart apologists are tonight! Has Jon Stewart sufficiently his enormous doucheness and assholeitis ?
As for Ron Suskind, what a slimy, self-important, immature, racist gossiping jerk with a serious Napoleonic complex!
Are you trying to pick a fight?
First of all, I really feel it’s not in our best interest to attack other people on this blog for their taste in TV shows, or much of anything for that matter.
I find it destructive, and the last thing we need is some sort of purity meter. Let’s leave that for KOS and FDL.
But if someone wants to jump on someone regarding Jon, then jump on me. I don’t like Jon attacking our POTUS anymore than anyone here. It hurts me to my core, and I hate it.
But Jon is the ONLY ONE who goes after the ClownCarCrazies® and points out just how insane and batshit they are EVERY FUCKING DAY. And he has a large audience to do it.
He is the ONLY ONE who isn’t acting like their behavior is somehow NORMAL. I, for one, am not willing to give that up, beause I feel we NEED IT. Who else runs video of thier insanity to a larger audience than he does? No one.
If he ever becomes FoxLite, bashing the POTUS 24/7 and praising the GOP, I’ll cut the cord. But he spends far more time bashing the GOP. THAT IS A GOOD THING.
As for Jon saying he would not vote for PBO, that’s not exactly what he said – go back and listen to the video. It’s easy to find. Or read this: “After Fox show host O’Reilly pointed out that Stewart had criticized President Obama on “The Daily Show,” he took it a step forward and asked the liberal host if he’d vote for a Republican candidate for president. “Sure,” Stewart said, qualifying what Obama would have to do to lose his vote: “If I didn’t have a clear sense of the direction that he wanted to move the country and somebody else had a more logical sense of where to take it.”
He qualified it very clearly, (that he will still vote for PBO.)
It also does no one any favors if we spread misinformation about something in a knee-jerk reaction. The Media does that 24/7. We should be about “thruthiness” here – no?
Every time Jon says something unfairly about PBO I send an email. I’ve also tweeted. If more of us do that, I think you might see a change. It’s working a bit for BIll Maher. He said something stupid about PBO on last week’s show, and his audience turned on him – he had a knee jerk reaction of his own, saying “He’s not your boyfriend” and the audience was silent. I’m sure he regretted it. I sent an email. I’m sure I’m not the only one. Time will tell.
Bottomline – Jump all you want all over Jon – UT nailed it in her post. But let’s not jump on each other. Let’s stop with the name calling others here. “Jon Stewart Apologist.” I personally think we’re better than that.
There are whiners and warriors. Whiners (the PL/EmoProgrs) whine about how their own side sucks and belittle and demean their own, instead of helping their side get fired up and attack the enemy. Whiners whine, and WARRIORS ACT.
Let’s be warriors.
I agree with you about not being so fast to abandon or condemn people as not worth watching or supporting especially when they are some of the very few pushing against the Teapartiers. Also not letting people express why they watch someone and condemning that is not helpful to us working together. I think individuals need to measure their own tolerance level and refrain from watching if they feel they need to. I also think some of these commentators bend over backwards to appear fair thus being overly critical of PBO to make it seem they are fairly bashing each side. It does not mean I like their methods or condone them. By not paying attention to them I will not know what arguments and proof is needed to combat their memes. Sending them displeasure messages is important. I also understand the idea of not giving their hateful messages ratings but there are two sides to the argument and we should not blast the people not agreeing with our own side.
Jon Stewart is not the only one who goes after the ClownCarCrazies®. They all do it in their own ways.
How many times Maher said that the D moved to the right and the R moved to a mental hospital?.
Stewart goes after them, Maher goes after them, Ed Shultz goes after them , etc,.
In New rules, psycho talk, a segment of Fox and Friends on the Daily Show….it’s all the same.
The big problem I have with them is that their audience is left leaning, it’s not Fox News viewers.
What impact does it have? We all know the GOP are extremists and liars. So even if they go after the GOP every time, we all agree with them,
It’s the bashing of the President that I have a problem with and the lack of respect as well.
If you hear every time you watch these shows that the President is weak, he caves, he has no judgment, he’s been pushed around by his team, etc etc….
The constant mocking and belittling of the President does have an impact.
Who’s listening to this? Who’s watching these shows? Republicans? Not the majority anyway… it’s ”progressives”, left leaning people, Democrats….
How many stayed home in 2010? It didn’t matter, the President was such a sell out, so weak, not a leader. They don’t get these messages from Fox News.
The difference between the teabaggers and the emoprogs is that the extreme right will always vote Republican….the extreme left (not all of course but many) will either stay home, write Bernie Sanders or vote third party
What ever message Jon Stewart is giving with his bashing, I believe it is very toxic and can influence people and he has a lot of younger viewers, first time voters…..
I can’t watch his show anymore because I don’t care if he makes fun of Fox and Friends in one segment and bash the President in the next,.
To each its own,…I don’t view Stewart on our team whatsover.
It’s only a question of perception, the way we view things, I would never be angry with someone in here who would have a different opinion about Jon Stewart..
Just perception…no big deal,.
I totally agree – which is why I feel we have to push back. If enough of us do, I think it will make a difference. I don’t believe Jon has gone to the dark side yet. I believe he’s trying to prove something (stupid) to O’Reilly.
PUSH BACK is important.
Hey Tally, I understand where you’re coming from and I also watch Jon so that I can be informed when he spews toxic crap and lies against President Obama. In his statement to O’Reilly, he might have qualified that what President Obama would do to lose his vote, but he still in essence said he would vote for a Republican for President if it came down to that. When you say that Jon is the only one who goes after the GOP and their batshit craziness everyday; I’m sorry but that’s not true. Jon has spent most of his 2011 season in petty personal attacks against PBO rather than concentrating a well justified ire at the GOP who with their regressive laws would rather destroy the economy and the middle class. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Colbert does a 1000% better job than Stewart every freaking night. Colbert reveals and speaks truth whereas Stewart goes off on rabid tangents and snarky jokes that aren’t even funny about PBO. He seems to not notice that his audience doesn’t like this. His huge over inflated ego will not let him see the light. Colbert night after night points out the destructive laws and behaviors of the GOP and where Jon mocks the American Jobs Act, Colbert for the past week and this week has been promoting the American Jobs Act in his own “truthiness” way. This is my problem with Jon Stewart: I also watch Jon Stewart and I’m sorry to say from the beginning of the 2011 season, he has in essence been the definition of the word hypocrite. Yes he occasionally jabs the republicans and points out their destructive policies in local, state, and federal government and he mocks them for their intransigence but at the same time he would make Jane Hamsher proud. Why people call him a PL or a Firebagger is because he would indeed make Jane Hamsher proud. PL’s and Firebaggers would vote for a Republican if only to just “stick it” to President Obama because he hasn’t fulfilled one or more of their neurotic demands. President Obama was a great campaigner, and more people should have opened their ears while he was campaigning; because even though he talked about hope and Yes We Can, he also told us it would be DIFFICULT. Our economic problems are deep and he would need our help to dig us out. He told people that it may take more than one term to lift us out of the doldrums so to speak. Instead of progressives exercising something called…. Oh I don’t know…..hmmmm….. patience; they and Jon Stewart began projecting their absurd impossible to meet demands on this President. He’s not God. He’s a human being and there will be false starts and set backs but he’s doing the best he can. Haven’t you all heard of the saying “you campaign in poetry and govern in prose.” The President talked and talked ad nauseam about why we needed the stimulus, healthcare, and while he was doing this he and his administration were creating better job creating environments but oh no it still wasn’t enough for the likes of Jon Stewart who mocked him for saving the financial district because that automatically made him “beholden” to Wall Street. Governing is boring, long, tedious and complicated. One often has to deal with people from the other side of the aisle who may not agree with ones policies. Unfortunately for President Obama, he’s not dealing with the normal type of opposition but a concerted effort to not only personally destroy him but to put a definite stop to his presidency. Jon Stewart mocks the media for their dumb and lazy reporting and their failed practices. Well, if I were him I would take a look into the mirror and then he would see that he was just as bad if not worse than the people he mocks. He laudes himself as a speaker of truth and one who points out the crap job our msm is doing. Well he should look at the crap hit job on President Obama that he’s been conducting since the beginning of the 2011 season. He thinks just because he uses satire and sarcasm it gives him the right to mock President Obama and his accomplishments in infantile juvenile manner. He mocks President Obama for not making use of the bully pulpit. Well Jon is a liar. If he would go to http://www.whitehouse.gov he would see many examples of President Obama effectively using the bully pulpit. But does Jon bother to show his audience the videos, blogs, and other effective tools President Obama and his administration have and continue to use? No. He doesn’t even tell them that he’s not reporting the true and complete story. He knows a lot of young people watch him and regard him as their news and he does a piss poor job of informing them about what President Obama has achieved. He mocks President Obama for not being more “Shaft-like” what kind of disgusting tripe is that? He mocked President Obama for the American Jobs Act. Who the hell in their sane mind mocks a bill that will put a lot of people to work and grow the economy? He wants President Obama to constantly yell and portray the angry black man demeanor because then he’ll be satisfied that President Obama is effectively doing his job. Well newsflash President Obama is not Samuel .L. Jackson in some action movie. He’s the President of the United States and Jon should accord him that respect. He mocked President Obama for his South America trip where President Obama was trying to strengthen our relationship with Brazil, Chile, and El Salvador and make sure that as these countries grew in leaps and bounds economically, the U.S. will be on hand to be a partner in that growth so that our collective industries can benefit. He basically reduced the worhwhile trip to crap by saying that all President Obama did was play soccer and listen to music in some favela. Who the hell mocks a President for taking time to visit a poor section of Brazil and playing soccer with orphans and listening to music and a show put on for him by proud children? He mocked the Wisconsin union workers and basically referred to them as another version of the tea party. Who the hell in their right mind does that? He mocked President Obama for the Solyndra mess without conducting his own research to find out the truth and present the truth to his audience. He basically used the msm’s reporting that he mocks and did a lazy, lazy, lazy job. Will he correct it? Of course not. He goes on shows like Rachel Maddow and Bill O’Reilly and mocks President Obama in a childish playground tit for tat manner and says he might hypothetically vote republican. Well ok then Jon….. you may do as you wish. Let’s see how that turns out for you. His appearance on O’Reilly was disgusting. What did he go there to do? To show that he’s sooooo “impartial” that he can endlessly and baselessly mock President Obama so no one will accuse of him of being an Obot. Ron Suskind was his guest on 9/20/2011 and Stewart didn’t even question the fact that Suskind has multiple factual errors in his book. Really?!!! So, Stewart’s definition of a passive President is one who saved/created 3 million jobs in 2.5 years, passed ACA, repealed DADT, obtained more power for the FDA and EPA. Got credit card reform, wallstreet reform, created the CFPB, put two women on the Supreme Court, passed a hate crimes bill that makes sure that the LGBT community won’t be discriminated against, passed a child nutrition bill and on and on and on and on.
No one says he shouldn’t criticize President Obama. But that criticism should be fair, based on logic, facts, and truth and not some hair on fire nonsense he pulls out of his disgruntled ass. Yes, Jon Stewart is a comedian but that doesn’t give him the right to conduct lazy research and spew tripe instead of informing his audience with the truth. Yes, Jon Stewart is a liberal but that doesn’t mean it automatically protects him from criticism when he does piss poor job after piss poor job night after night. Jon Stewart should take a look into the truth mirror and own up to the fact that he has done a disservice to his millions of viewers and to President Obama. He needs to take a million lessons from Stephen Colbert and Colbert’s writers who actually conduct credible research. Colbert may act like a “conservative” on his show but he speaks the truth. He, unlike Stewart realizes what is at stake in 2012 and though he criticizes President Obama, he does so in a fair and truthful manner while at the same time pointing out his accomplishments.
UT, thanks for your insight into Stewart and his show. I can say first hand that his nightly diatribes against President Obama have
consequences. My husband who is pretty far left, but has supported Obama from the get-go, watches Stewart every night. Now
my husband is making statements much like what Stewart is saying: caves, bends over, doesn’t push back hard enough, etc. I’m
not sure he even realizes that what he’s hearing from Stewart and all the other msm bashers is affecting his opinions, if even on
a subconscious level. My concern is that if my husband, who is 68 yrs old can be affected this way, how much is he affecting the
minds of the young people who voted for President Obama last time, but might not vote again. This should be a worry for all of
us, and something we need to fight back against.
I watch several of the cable shows and often have to keep my bp down when I hear some of the things being said, and not
rebutted by the hosts…but I also feel it’s necessary for us to watch some of these shows, so we can keep informed about the
things being said. Then we can realistically fight back with our emails and tweets (I don’t tweet, but you folks do). Otherwise, I
feel if we don’t listen to their words very closely, they’ll continue to spew their bile without push back for truth telling.
OK, enough with my ranting…..
Oops, sorry my sentences ran too long & got messed up. My bad
I totally agree – which is why I feel we need to push back on Jon. I don’t think we’ve lost him. I really don’t.
Tally – you’re right. I get what you are saying. I stopped listening to Jon after the ‘rally’ Comedy Central had. Sort of feel like he’d spent his capital. But Carol in KY gives a very good example of the kind of thing that can happen subconsciously to people who listen to him. I betya it’s the same for people who listen to any one thing you know? Fox, CNN, MSNBC. As long as you are not using critical thinking when viewing these shows you start talking like them. Case in point. My inlaws. They watch FOX. they gotta get practically de-programmed every thanksgiving by their kids. it’s ridiculous.
But listening with a critical ear and holding them account is good. Especially because the people who listen to them are young people. And we need them – they’re the future. More of us should be listening and communicating when we hear something that is not right. And maybe when something is right. I will try to be more like this
Colbert should have won the Emmy Sunday night. Jon Stewart is no longer relevant.
Jon Stewart IS A MAJOR ASSHOLE and is THE DESTRUCTIVE one!
Jon Stewart posing as a liberal, has not only done quite a bit of irreversible damage to PBO personally and professionally, but seems on a mission to deny him a second term!
There is no way of spinning or excusing away what Jon Stewart has been engaging in, but continue away if you must!
Even some of the previously dedicated Stewart fans in my circle have finally caught on to the fact that this guy is not acting in good faith and is actively working AGAINST not just PBO but dangerously throwing this country to the wolves!
Well said anniebella. He passed not being funny long time ago. His show has outlived it’s usefulness. I know he is a comedian, but comedians cross the line also. I lost respect for him when I saw him making fun of a tragedy once. That is unacceptable with me; comedian or not.
This is where the push back has to come. Write to Comedy Channel and tell them that Stewart is not funny and he is also boring and predictable and you’re turning him off. Write to Steward and tell him his so-called comedy days are over. He should look to Fox for his next gig.
Good idea Jackie. I turned Stewart off over a year ago. When I found myself not laughing at his jokes, I knew it was time to delete his show from my dvr and I have no regrets.
I don’t watch his show, but he just won an Emmy for his BS!
TRUTH IS “HE SUCKS” AND THE CONSTANT DISRESPECT OF PRESIDENT OBAMA IS ENOUGH TO CUT HIM LOOSE!!!
I FOR ONE HAVE NO USE FOR MR. STEWART….HE IS A NASTY MAN!!!!
I’m curious to know what was the general audience reaction to Stewart’s gratuitious bashing of the President. I think people need to start pushing back on Stewart – and hard. He has a large audience and a lot of young people (who are easily influenced) watch his show. He knows perfectly well what he is doing and he, like Rachel Maddow, has developed a personal hatred for the President borne out of jealousy due to a realization that he is no match for the President in intellect, wit, human integrity, popularity, self-composure, and physical attractiveness.
Hey hopefruit, what I’ve discovered is that when Stewart goes on his personal vindictive rampage of bashing President Obama, the audience doesn’t laugh as they do when he points out the madness of the GOP. Their reaction is more muted and you only hear a few claps as though it’s painful for them to even clap. Some of them even groan as if to say oh crap not again. But Stewart with his huge over-inflated ego doesn’t seem to realize that many of his audience members don’t like to hear that line of attack. It’s become personal for him so he just rants on and on and on like a rabid dog. I tweeted him multiple times about the Suskind interview and when he did that Solyndra hit piece, I also tweeted with him with news articles and fact sheets that told the true story of Solyndra and a lot of liberals have been re-tweeting my tweets and sending me tweets that they also agree that Stewart’s disdain for PBO seems unsually personal and many of them are getting turned off from his show and now watch Colbert more. Good for them and good for the extra following for Stephen because he uses his show to point out the truth and he’s been very good last week and this week in pushing for passage of President Obama’s American Jobs Act in his Colbert way of “truthiness” whereas Stewart has been mocking the AJA. I thank the tv gods every night for Stephen Colbert. He ALWAYS washes out the bile that is Jon Stewart and the Daily Show.
thanks for the review of how that’s working. I haven’t watched Stewart since that “Rally”. I got turned off right away after that because of his bashing PBO. Yep. I think his star is fading.
Thanks utaustin, it’s very good to have info. I suspected as much. Stewart will realize soon enough that this President is more than just a passing fad – which is what Stewart is.
No matter how we all feel about him, Jon Stewart is no “passing fad”, and to dismiss him as such is… the waste of a good opportunity.
I’d like to point out he’s done a LOT of good:
- He is very pro-union, and very supportive during the WGA strike.
- If not for Jon, the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act would not have passed (even though the GOP fucked it and now it doesn’t cover CANCER.)
- He called out Jim Cramer and CNBC for the pathetic economic meltdown.
- He constantly calls out the media for not doing it’s job.
He has been the host of The Daily Show since 1999. That’s 12 years, 2 Peabodys, 16 Emmys, 7 other nominations, 1 Grammy, a Book of the Year, and been honored by GLAAD, the Television Critics Association and the Satellite Awards. Last year, Time magazine selected the series as one of “The 100 Best TV Shows of All-TIME”.
There’s even a Dutch version of the show that is produced in The Netherlands.
Steven Colbert has his show, because of Jon Stewart. Don’t forget that.
Jon Stewart isn’t going anywhere. We have an opportunity to push back in a constructive way – why not take advantage of that, and get him to snap out of this weird funk he’s in, and get him and his writing staff back on the bus???
Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’reilly have 10x more reach should we also pussyfoot around them while we try to win them both over?
In my opinion, Jon Stewart does more irreversible damage to PBO and his support since unlike O’reilly he positions himself as a liberal and has managed to convinclingly sway a few liberals from that position. The same group that would immediately flee if they saw the self-described right wing hosts coming at them.
Audrey – I’m sure you can see the difference. Rush and O’Reilly have NEVER been on out side.
Last night Jon handed that bagger governor from IN his ASS over PBO’s AJA and Buffett Plan.
My bigger point, that you don’t address, is please don’t call out and demean other people by calling them “Jon Stewart Apologists” or people like me won’t feel welcome here anymore.
If everyone’s line in the sand is disagreeing with the POTUS over ANYTHING, there would be a lot fewer people here, AND a lot fewer people who support the POTUS.
We have a HUGE fight ahead of us. LIke this asshole Suskind and his book of lies. Fighting each other (and others on this blog) over our PBO purity is a waste of energy, and being a whiner about our own side, instead of a warrior and attacking REPUBLICANS and the fucking GOP MEDIA who are the real enemy.
Jon Stewart IS. NOT. ON. OUR SIDE! But goodluick!
Unlike you, I do not equate calling out those who blatantly disrespect and demean PBO as drawong purity lines!
PBO is the leader of the party and POTUS and if people like Jon Stewart will not even give the President the respect due him, I sure as hell do not want him working with me on anything!
I am sick and tired of been told that it is ok to sacrifice PBO personally and professionally, to get jerks like Stewart to allign with us on some issues.
As ome who became active in politics BECAUSE of PBO, that is out of the question!
Jon Stewart is smart enough to know exactly what he is doing and why hence my certainty that this is not a man to be “convverted” or “brought along”.
His stance is conscious and deliberate and “hitting” a few GOP types intermittently rings so hollow especially since he continies to diminish and strip PBO of respect and support! Sorry but as far as I”m concerned, that is not an acceptable trade pff for me!
As for O’reilly, one can argue that he actually compliments PBO every so often, even moreso than Stewart. Should that now be a reason to ignore his tripe and seek out his participation?
From my vantage point, Jon Stewart has done and continues to do more harm to the liberal cause than Oreilly and co. And I will not let a man who does so deliberately, hold me ransom by catering to him in the hopes that he’ll come round to “our” side again
Frankly, the idea that we need Stewart or we are doomed is bullocks and I will continue to work hard at the grassroots to re-elect PBO. It will be up to the American people in the end and they lose if we cannot get this President a 2nd term!
- Jon is very pro-union, and very supportive during the WGA strike.
Are all definitely very bad. He should be stopped.
President Obama calls on us every day to work together. To see the good in everyone. Obama is the President of everyone not just the Democrats.
By all means, hate and attack Stewart if you like. I think there are better targets. But don’t demean me or anyone else for believing that.
No one has “demeaned” you! On the contrary it is you who potentially insults the intellifgence and discernment of those of us see and hear Jon Stewart and are yett been force-fed this false notion that he is pro-union (even though he mocked unions at various interviews promoting rally) heck, that HE got the 911 responder health bill passed because he chimed in once!
It is strange that you bristle and get all offended at the word “apologist”, but dismiss and play down Jon Stewart’s ongoing attacks personal and professional on PBO!
You are free to believe what you want as I am; but please let us not pretend that a man that continues to savage the principle player in our cause means us well!
Drawing; as one; “converted”; trade off;
I have no idea what that means.
I don’t like anyone calling someone else out BY NAME, referring to them as an “apologist.” You did that, and some other things, and your post was then edited – not by you.
That is bullying behavior, that’s why I responded to your comment, because I believe we’re better than that.
We have differing opinions of Jon Stewart. Many people here do. This is The Obama Diary, not the I Hate Jon Stewart Blog.
As for Jon being pro-union, it’s not a “false notion.” I work in the entertainment industry. I’m in three unions. I know what Jon did during the writers strike, and I don’t know any union member who wasn’t honored by that.
I do not have the luxury of being “in” with the owner of this blog so that I can turn of the reply button when I please and have words or phrases that offend me edited out of posts.
I do however find it strange and rather amusing that the word “apologist” is found to be so offensive and “bulllying” and yet there is this effusive defense of Jon Stewart who continues in his unrestrained and very damaging assuallt on the person and efforts of PBO!
Jon Stewart is not a stupid man and like every smart self+serving, opportunistic narcissist knows to do a selective amount of “good” for the sake of staying relevant and “popular” while doing very grievous damage to others.
Even Donald Trump knows to do his share of “good deeds”! That Jon Stewart chose to to his selective “good deed” with unions you were affiliated with does in no way distract from the glaring fact that this person has been on a very focused, deliberate and damaging offensive against the person and efforts of PBO!
That I should indulge Jon Stewart’s massive ego and continue to feed it by playing into the overblown hype that he also seems to have bought into about his importance, is something that will NEVER happen. Jon is a legend in his own mind and that of those who have bought into the hype and I cannot and will not help expand the power and influence of a person so dangerously immature, vindictive and petty that he will irresponsibly sway his audience in the direction that WILL find us losing.
Audrey, you’re more than welcome to express your views here on Jon Stewart and whoever else it was you were commenting on the other night – for what it’s worth, I largely agree with your views on Stewart.
But, no, I won’t allow through comments wishing harm on anyone, hence the edit. You know what you wrote, so you know what I mean.
Nor will I allow people to be obnoxious to fellow visitors to the blog. By all means, disagree – but please leave out the personal insults. Why not just argue the point, rather than attacking those with whom you disagree? Let’s leave that kind of thing to the Tea/Firebaggers, okay? It’s not – and never will be – welcome here. Thanks.
Also – why not try to get people back on our side (if they’ve left) and/or try to make them see that when they demean or attck our POTUS, they encourage people to stay home and not vote. I’d rather get them to stop that, and make our army BIGGER, than cut them off and end up alone in my sandbox.
I have no problem with people disagreeing with PBO on policy. My problem (with Jon) is his manner in which he does it. So I’m going to push back, and try to educate and correct and point out that he may do more collateral damage than he intends. Remember, liberals are capable of critical thought and logic. Baggers aren’t.
A giant shitstorm is coming our way, and may destroy us with the Keystone XL pipeline (tar sands) that will be approved at the end of the year. I think our energy would be better served in trying to head that off by getting in front of the story now. Even with people like Stewart – and educating them on it. Because the Media will frame it as another PBO attack on the environment when it’s not.
Any chance to attack PBO they’re goign to take. It’s in their best $$$ interest to do so, because PBO has done so much to reign in the corporate greed and has ended their legalized embezzling. They want him out so they can continue to steal our money. Unfortunately, you won’t read that in any newspaper.
Fact checking the fact checkers:
I hope the FED does some easing tomorrow! Piss off conservatives! Lol!
Here is the new Pamestinian/Israeli plan:
Now Boehner won’t meet with the U.S. Conference of Mayors to talk jobs creation, according to Mayor Villaraigosa:
@SpeakerBoehner Can you get any lamer, Sir – Mayor Villaraigos is Pres of the Conf of Mayors and you refuse to talk jobs with him #GOPFAIL
It doesn’t surprise me about Boehner. He is the sorriest House speaker that I have ever seen. The only job he has save has been his, because he has no guts to stand up to Cantor and the Tea Party.
Worst speaker EVER!
REQUIRED VIEWING – HBO’s The Strange History of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell
You will not only be blown away by our amazing POTUS, our amazing military, but the disgusting behavior of John McCain, and the douchery of the GOP.
It also makes you realize how every person on the left, who stayed home in a snit and didn’t vote in 2010 to SEND A MESSAGE – almost resulted in the opposite of a DADT repeal – and how fast these thugs will reinstate it if they regain power because some selfish shitheads stay home in 2012 to SEND A MESSAGE. If you do not exercise your right to vote, you have NO VOICE, and those on the side of hate will WIN.
Patrick Murphy who was integral in bringing the bill forward, lost his seat beause some PL douchebags talked Democrats into not voting.
It almost didn’t happen.
It’s on a lot this week on HBO. Next showings are on Saaturday.
It was very emotional watching this TODAY.
Tally, thank you so much for posting this. I watched this evening and cried through the entire program. It was so well done, so informative, and just as you said a MUST SEE. Please everyone who can see it. Thanks Tally. I will be watching again on Sat. Thanks so much, Tally. You are great!!. Love you, Tally.HZ
I don’t have HBO but would love to see this entire program. I have witnessed McCain’s disgusting behavior for years. Sadly, people just would not vote him out. I am glad his reign is nearly over. He has played a big part in what is wrong with this country whether it be the wars, favors, scandals, etc.
Thanks so much for letting us know about this HBO Documentary. I just watched and it was riveting. Your description of the documentary is pitch perfect.
Tally thx! I’m going to watch this tonight when I get home!
I’ll set the DVR! Thank you for the head’s up….I’ll have the tissues close by:)
And watch with the kids….they need to see this.
A major donor to Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) is accused of stealing more than $3.6 million in federal grant money and illegally funneling foreign cash to Graham’s campaign, according to federal charges announced this week.
Jian-Yun “John” Dong of Mount Pleasant, S.C., is accused of fraud, making illegal campaign contributions and dozens of other crimes in a pair of indictments brought by a U.S. grand jury in South Carolina. Dong’s wife, Danher Wang, is also charged in the case, according to court records.
Prosecutors and Graham’s office say the senator had no knowledge of the alleged wrongdoing. Graham spokesman Kevin Bishop said any questionable donations will be handed over to the U.S. Treasury.

DONG & WANG????? ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS????
The most homophobic man ON EARTH is getting in trouble financially from DONG & WANG on the DAY that DADT is repealed????
And THE ONION DIDN’T WRITE THIS???
KARMA IS AWESOME!!!!!
Will Darrell Issa be jumping on this one to investigate it?
Goodnight TOD family and our beloved Chips. Thanks a million,Chips for all that you do for us here. I appreciate everything so very much. I love you all so very much. HZ
That is quite a schedule, in deed. Not to worry. Remember, God has His arms wrapped around OUR President – and he’ll flow through all of this beautifully …
Liz952, I often tell my sister the same thing.
Alone in a cabin in Northern Ontario last month, Sen. Lamar Alexander considered the debt limit deal Congress and President Barack Obama had recently, noisily struck. He thought about the debates still to come in the 2012 election year, the issues he cared about, and his own future in the Senate.
Then the Tennessee Republican, 71, typed out a speech on his laptop and set it aside, to “let it cool.”
Alexander served it up Tuesday, announcing from the Senate floor that he is giving up his No. 3 position in the GOP leadership for the freedom to write laws with Democrats, if need be.
“In the leadership, you always give up some of your independence in exchange for a seat at the table,” Alexander said in a brief hallway interview. “I am giving up my seat at the table in exchange for some more independence.”……..
Senator Olympia Snowe of Maine has been a major disappointment. I wonder how this move by Senator Lamar Alexander will impact her. She is apparently terrified of the Tea Party. I have lost all respect for her.
WHAT’S SEN. OLYMPIA SNOWE WAITING FOR?
As one of the Senate’s least conservative (and, ostensibly, least partisan) Republicans, Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME) should be a significant national leader during a time of divided government. For all the attention paid to ultraconservative Senate obstructionists like Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Tea Party favorite Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC), it’s actually a handful of senators like Snowe and Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) — supposed moderates, both ideologically and politically — who determine whether Republican filibusters succeed or fail, and who are well-positioned to work with Senate Democrats and the White House to help the economy and address other urgent national priorities. The Obama administration has consistently recognized Snowe’s potential significance — and yet Snowe herself remains on the sidelines, imploring others to deal with problems she says must be solved immediately.
This is more evidence that the Republicans are having an increasingly difficult time trying to hold their party together. I hope others will follow Alexander’s lead.
As you said Ladyhawke, Snowe is afraid of the tea party. Like so many other Republicans. But what ever happen to being afraid of not doing the right thing for your country. Worry about that instead of worrying about saving your job.
We should thank him for doing what is right by the people, not ideology and pledges. I’m sure WIW has contact info:)
I can’t believe Jon Stewart was drooling all over that slimy POS Ron Suskind last night.
Jon Stewart and Arianna are BFF’s. So I’m not surprised by him. He will drool over anyone who bashes our President – even if that person is Dick Cheney or Sarah Palin. Stewart himself is scum. The president could easily do his (Stewart’s) job, but he could never come close to doing the President’s job.
And he’s just not occasionally making fun of something, it’s now an every night mocking and belittling of this president. It’s nasty and looks personal, bitter. Stewart deserves a ban. I would love for no one to watch his show and then tune in for Colbert, a big increase in viewers at the half hour. Send a message.
Compare Stewart’s lamebrained focus on Obama to Colbert, who makes mincemeat out of the Repubs defending tax breaks for billionaires while demanding increase from the poor:
Thanks for this dotster. Just tweeted it to @TheDailyShow and @ColbertReport.
I can believe it because Siewart has always been an arrogent jackass, who think more of himself than he should. He’s just a high call comedian, who’s stardom has gone to his big ego.
Stewart is addicted to cynicism. He has let it define him. He’s a very poor listener. And sadly, he has become what he despised: lazy and superficial.
I’ve always been uncomfortable with Stewart. Instinctively. He ENJOYS being mean to people.
I much much prefer Steven Colbert. Steven has a big heart.
Good morning TOD family.
Here’s more proof that the Health Care Law PBO fought for is working:
Tell that to Jon Stewart.
I just did:
@TheDailyShow – @BarackObama ‘s ACA IS WORKING: washingtonpost.com/business/surve…
Thanks for this Africa. Just tweeted it. We need more and more of this good news to share through tweets, emails etc. So that more and more people know that President Obama’s accomplishments are nothing to sneer at because they have real world benefits.
Hey Good Morning TOD’ers!
Well today is another day to do something proactive for PBO and the country. Yesterday I was talking about yammering at the GOP side of Leadership for AJA. Here’s the addie:
Also, “Contact Your Congressman” has a wonderful section on the bottom for all the people in the Super Committee. We can contact these cats too! I KNOW they want to hear from us!
Have a great day peeps. I’ll pop in when I can. (I’m the only staff person here at work for my department for the next couple of weeks so I’m going to be extra busy.)

Please join me in lighting a candle for our President, First Lady and the Nation.
Oooop, didn’t see your link, Jackie! GMTA!
So, amongst everything else, the Spresidrnt sees Mayor Kock today.
And Joe Biden had a meeting with banks in Ohio yesterday, told them all to start loaning money because we belied you out.
They released a leak to the press that said their is mi demand because if higher taxes.
Very snarky response to Joes request!
Here is my problem with Obama’s economic team. Jovie, I know you’ve warmed up to Geithner but I am quite disappointed in him. He was meant to be a bridge to Wall St., but all he did was bring Wall St. talk back to the President. And Wall St. and the banks still hate him and are working actively to defeat him. It has been a lose-lose on all counts.
This particular buck stops with the Sec’y of the Treasury. There were no restrictions placed on the bailout they received. I know it was structured while Bush was still President, but an aggressive and progressive economic team would have handled this differently and instituted some control, especially at the beginning of the Obama administration when he had sufficient political capital. We can bitch all we want about the PL and I am the first in line to bitch about them, but a more progressive economic team would have quelled the distrust for Obama from the beginning. I defended Geithner at the Orange site, asking for patience to see what he would do. Same thing with Larry Summers — let’s see if he understands that the world is different than it was 17 years ago. I’ve been disappointed. We have been left with our hats in our hands, ‘asking’ bankers and Wall St. to do the right thing, like Biden is doing in Ohio. Mortgage foreclosures should have been handled in a historically progressive manner and as a priority. I adore this President with my entire heart and soul, but there have been some mistakes and we can talk about that without doing damage to him.
The economic policies cannot all be defended. I believe that the President and the country would be in a much stronger position had he not gone to the Clinton-era people who have not served us as well as they should have.
Mind if I chirp in I can accept a bit of what you’ve laid out, and of course, all administrations make mistakes. I am wondering though, with PBO’s relative newness in DC, do you think he had enough time to put together a more worthy team? Did he know that many money managers, and wasn’t the urgency of the economic situation a hinderance to him doing a more thorough search of good and long-view talent? From what I and all of us witnessed, he came in at a time of great problems both domestically and internationally. I believe your comments have merit, I’d just feel assured knowing PBO did what he felt was absolutely necessary, though not ideal, at that particular time. Also, wasn’t big money going to hate him anyway with his policies on regulation and pro-consumerism?
If President Obama would have hired all of Clinton-era people to fix the economy, the Progressives would have gone insane, because they were bytching when President Obama hired a few. They claimed that President Obama should NOT have any of the same people in his Admin, because you cannot have the same people doing the same things, over and over again, and get a different result. SO, THIS IS WHAT WE GOT! Yes I agree, for the bail out should have tied to job creating.
edp4bho x 2
Blue, I actually think you CAN have some of the same people doing the same job, UNDER DIFFERENT LEADERSHIP, and get different results. You can also have the same people doing the same job over and over and getting different results. It happens all the time in real life. People grow. Sometimes we call it experience. It seems a big reach to assume that everyone in the Clinton administration, or even in the previous administration, was incompetent. In a way, it’s like saying that if the struggling company in which you work is failing then the new boss should toss everyone out indiscriminately (including you?).
As edp4bho stated, the President ‘came in at a time of great problems both domestically and internationally… and did what he felt was absolutely necessary, though not ideal’. IMO there’s merit to the idea of choosing people with experience for the economic situation PBO found himself in, as there was really not enough time for an outsider to learn the circumstances AND act effectively. Sure he could have hired totally ‘new’ people who could have come in, toss everything out and start afresh, but who is to say that would have been the best solution? In my experience it’s always easy to lead or coach from the sidelines, but when you’re on the field the play looks different, and the results rest not only in your hands but in the hands of your team members as well as the opponents. So now that we are in a position 2+ years later to assess the President’s handling of the disaster he inherited, I hope we’ll take a page from his playbook and move forward with purpose. We can’t please all of the people all of the time, and neither can the president. He’s brilliant, but he’s also human. Let’s cut him some slack. In some people’s view he messed up. Okay. Can he go back and change that at this point? Can they? Has he learned anything from those decisions? Undoubtedly. Maybe not the same lesson some wanted him to learn, but the President is a man who listens and learns. If we can let this go and concentrate fully on the next segment of his leadership maybe we won’t feel weighted down in spirit because he fumbled the ball earlier on. Maybe we’ll place all of our attention on the battle ahead.
Oops! I’m going to be late for exercise class. Enjoy your day!
“In some people’s view he messed up.”
And so did all those “pls” who sat out 2010. Vcprezofan, you are on point, and my comments don’t pertain to anything anyone here has said. They are all salient points to consider. I find rectification in order, for everyone who hasn’t been as deep-thinking during this administration, and for any voters who thought they would “punish” PBO for not being perfect. Again, this is not meant for anyone on TOD as we get it. President did what he needed to and I would bet my house that he admonished Geitner for his lack of aggression for the benefit of main street.
Iran releases 2 American hikers!
Great news, Jovie.
Good morning, TODville!!
Today will be a very, very important and productive day for PBO as he works for peace and prosperity with many of the hotspots in this world whose people are suffering. I’m looking forward to his address to the General Assembly to set the tone for the day. FLOTUS will be there for support, of course.
Anyone wishing to light a candle for President Obama at this hour:
Hey Meta! I have a question for you. I’ve been trying to suss out what is behind Ellison’s objection to a certain portion of the AJA/deficit plan. He supports everything PBO says except for the “cuts to medicaid/medicare” you tweeted him an argument that he didn’t reply to. Your argument was this:
@keithellison As I said, WEP=benefit for similar earnings; amend MAGI to broaden elig; triggers don’t apply to SS. Do you have pg citation?
I’ve read it over at WH.gov and I just don’t get what he’s objecting to. He’s a progressive in our state so I’m wondering what the deal is. Can you re-explain to me what your tweet meant? I don’t understand WEP and MAGI. I’ve been copying out page citations that explain there are no cuts and I want to formulate as good an email as I can. I think you’re argument bears repeating to him but I want to understand better – thanks!
It sounds like Ellison hasn’t read the bill and did not listen carefully to the speech. God.
Cuts are to insurance subsidies. Since when is this something that progressives object to? Cuts to ‘providers’, meaning the electric carts scam, etc.
If there is anything concrete concerning cuts, then I’d like to hear the actual facts, Mr. Ellison. Not just accusations.
Yesterday morning I saw his tweet about supporting the tax increases but not cuts to SS, Medicare, Medicaid. So I tweeted him because I was surprised to see that kind of misinformation coming from him. He responded: “why don’t you look next to the medicare, medicaid cuts.” So I went back and said that he mentioned SS so I wanted a page citation. He never answered. I think he lumped in SS with Medicare and Medicaid without thinking.
Here’s the document:
WEP (page 27) refers to:
The Social Security Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO) provisions are adjustments to the Social Security formula which ensure that non-cov- ered workers do not receive a higher propor- tional benefit than workers with similar earn- ings who worked their entire careers in covered employment Currently, WEP and GPO ad- justments are only applied when an individ- ual worker attests that he or she has a pen- sion in non-covered employment or the Social Security Administration (SSA) discovers that an individual is receiving a non-covered pension.
MAGI (page 41) refers to modified adjusted gross income:
Amend modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) for health insurance assistance programs to include Social Security benefits. Starting in 2014, eligibility for Exchange tax credits and cost sharing reductions, Medicaid, and CHIP will be determined based on an individual’s or families’ MAGI, as defined under the Affordable Care Act Similar to legislation currently under consideration by the Congress, the Administration proposes to amend that definition to include the total amount of Social Security benefits in the calculation of MAGI, rather than just the taxable portion, when determining eligibility for these programs to better target those in need This proposal is projected to save $14.6 billion over 10 years.
Does this help?
Wow! Thanks Meta! You rock. This helps me understand it better.
Cool! Thanks for getting involved and letting him know your opinion.

Does anyone know how to find the names of the 2012 OFA coordinators in different states? I’ve tried the OFA website and other sources. Anybody know the coordinator for PA?
I think there was a shake-up during the summer and they have a new one. If you don’t know who your local Field Director is or regional team leader, I’d call HQ to see who to contact:
As if there was ANY question as to whether they want the economy to rebound…THIS! A letter from GOP leadership requesting that the Fed chairman NOT do anymore to help the economy!
and our Lazy, sloppy, irresponisble media will just let this pass on by…nothing to see here folks.
Thanks for this desertflower. Just tweeted this piece of dynamite information. More and more people need to be made aware of the deviant and destructive nature of the GOP. They would rather see the economy, the middle and working class go down the drain than provide measures that would help.
I posted this fascinating story the other day. Don’t know if anyone saw this…how gamers have found out, from 3D animation, things about the AIDS virus that have kept scientists baffled for ages! Amazing. Maybe a real cure is now around the corner:)
Hope it bites them in the ass so hard they won’t know what bit them.

Good morning TODers, I woke up this morning grateful and thankful to be alive and well, but I tell you the truth, my mind Is on Troy Davis, I type with tears running down my cheeks. DID ANYONE WATCH LIZ WARREN’S INTERVIEW THIS MORNING?? SHE IS AWESOME!
President Obama is speaking at the United Stations right now and he’s making good solid points about war, peace, compromise and the Arab Spring. He’s talking about the will of ordinary people from Cote D’Ivoire, Egypt, Libya, and Tunisia who got up to claim their rights and demand a peaceful working government of the people, by the people, and for the people. He says “something is happening in our world. The Youth are delivering a powerful rebuke to tyrants and rejecting the meme that some races, some religions, and some people do not deserve rights. But let’s not be fooled. Peace is hard. Progress can be rolled back. The UN and the U.S. have to support and be on the right side of history.”
Thanks for the reporting, UT!
Is he amazing or what? I just sit in awe of his brilliance, understanding, and compassion.
President Obama calls on the U.N. to impose sanctions on Syria and President Salah(?) due to their violent crackdown on the Syrian people who are peacefully protesting.
Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) on Wednesday said Republican attempts to offer advice to the Federal Reserve ahead of its two-day meeting on monetary policy were “wrong-headed” and represented an unwarranted political intrusion on the independent agency.
Speaking on the Senate floor, Durbin cited a letter sent by House and Senate Republican leaders on Monday to Federal Reserve Board Ben Bernanke that said the Fed should not approve any “further intervention” in the U.S. economy.
“Now with this letter to the Federal Reserve, the Republican congressional leaders are telling the Federal Reserve, we believe for the first time in history, that they should not provide in this economy a vehicle for expansion by lowering interest rates,” Durbin said. “That to me is wrong-headed.”
Top GOP leaders from both chambers sent a letter to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke Monday, highlighting “serious concerns” about further intervention from the Fed, and arguing that previous efforts have done more harm than good.
The letter was signed by Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.).
Durbin quoted a former Federal Reserve official who said the political communication is “outrageous” that the Fed would receive “direct political communications from Republican leaders.”
The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) began a two-day meeting on Tuesday, and on Wednesday afternoon will announce any monetary policy decisions it has made. While most economists say there is little else the Fed can do to help the economy given that interest rates are already essentially at zero, Durbin criticized Republicans nonetheless for encouraging the Fed to ignore the struggling economy.
“So what is the message of the Republican leaders to the Federal Reserve Board?” he asked. “Their message is clear and simple: do nothing. Stand by the sidelines and watch this economy languish.”
—Peter Schroeder contributed.
I am beyond outraged. And progressives don’t understand the choice we have to make in 2012? Has this entire nation gone batshit crazy?
Some progressives are Ron Paul supporters. Certainly, many on Kos and FDL!
And now we have a window view into what has been happening behind the scenes with communication to the banks who won’t lend money and corporations who are sitting on their tremendous reserves and not expanding or hiring ANYONE!
It sounds like a conspiracy against the US. Isn’t there a term for that kind of behavior?
Excellent, Excellent Speech. Hearing this Great Man speak makes you what to be a better person. Thank president Obama.
Mr President THANK YOU;THANK YOU;THANK YOU and f*cking B.R.I.L.L.I.A.N.T
Did anyone happen to catch the speech this a.m. I have only seen photos. And… I know this is soooo off topic but I saw a photo of FLOTUS and she has let her hair down. It has grown back to it’s longer length and she is BEAUTIFUL. Please someone share.
That is very important news! I was wondering what she was doing with that updo all these months. Can’t wait to see!

Unless you live in Greenland, Siberia or Antarctica, watch out for dazzling lights in the sky as red-hot lumps of NASA-grade aluminium descend upon our planet.
here’s a picture of FLOTUS
Thanks for this Fred. She looks gorgeous. It looks like she’s wearing the outfit she wore when she and President Obama were in London and she left to go back to the States while he went on to France and other countries for G20 talks and other important meetings. (Jeez…. it’s freaky that I know this….. Oh well I’m a TOD’er. It’s allowed. ) Her hair has grown longer than it was in 2008 and it looks beautiful.
Sorry Fred I didn’t see your pic.
Wind project almost done!
TODer’s, here is a transcript of FLOTUS’ and POTUS’ remarks from last night’s fundraiser. Even better than we initially thought!
These are two very remarkable people, who are very much in love with each other.
That was phenomenal — every single word. *sigh* . Thanks meta!
Thank you for that.
I did chuckle at the Rick Perry ad underneath though…. As If !!!
Thank for sharing. Excellent as usual. I loved it!!
Nice. I was skimming the remarks, and I caught something interesting that kinda confirms what I and many people have thought, re POTUS/FLOTUS travel arrangements of late:
“And it’s great to be here with my husband, because the truth is we rarely get to travel together anymore. They separate us. It’s like you’re over there, you’re over there. So this is sort of like our date night. (Laughter.)”
The way that ^^^ is phrased makes it seem like she’s admitting they are often purposely separated during travel, probably for security reasons. I also remember hearing FLOTUS say in an interview earlier this year that she spent a lot of time working out indoors because she wasn’t allowed to walk around the WH/neighborhood anymore…
Judge Upholds Constitutionality Of Section Five Of Voting Rights Act
A federal judge appointed by President George W. Bush has upheld the constitutionality of a part of the Voting Rights Act that requires certain parts of the country to have their election laws precleared by the federal government to prevent unlawful discrimination, shooting down a challenge from Shelby County, Alabama.
“Bearing in mind both the historical context and the extensive evidence of recent voting discrimination reflected in that virtually unprecedented legislative record, the Court concludes that ‘current needs’ — the modern existence of intentional racial discrimination in voting — do, in fact, justify Congress’s 2006 reauthorization of the preclearance requirement imposed on covered jurisdictions by Section 5, as well as the preservation of the traditional coverage formula embodied in Section 4(b),” U.S. District Court Judge John D. Bates wrote.
Elizabeth Warren on “class warfare”:
I hear all this, you know, “Well, this is class warfare, this is whatever.”—No!
There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody.
You built a factory out there—good for you! But I want to be clear.
You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for.
You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate.
You were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for.
You didn’t have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory, and hire someone to protect against this, because of the work the rest of us did.
Now look, you built a factory and it turned into something terrific, or a great idea—God bless. Keep a big hunk of it.
But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.
Wow a powerful (and true) statement from her. She is going to be a phenomenal candidate.
Wow, what a brilliant way to put it. All democrats, including President Obama, should use this kind of language. Effective.
These words by Mrs. Warren should go viral !
Like Mark Cuban said yesterday: paying taxes is patriotic.
They shoulda confirmed Elizabeth to the Consumer Board when they had the chance.
Wow! She’s a great fighter and puts into words what other people only feel. If I were Scott Brown I’d be very afraid. I would so love to see the end of his smirky face. Massachusans, work your heart out for her. Get Warren and Obama elected by a huge landslide in your state.
Oh that is so great to see!
After so many long years of Repub billionaires buying up all the MegaMedia, and turning “the news” into a giant, coordinated propaganda machine designed to turn America, and the world for that matter, into a massive oligarchy, I’m sensing the public consciousness changing back to sanity and logic…finally.
People are always asking, “Why are blue collar people always voting against their own best interests?!?” Well, that was the whole point of the MegaMedia takeover. Blue collar America used to vote overwhelming DemocratIC for decades, and had a clear understanding of the points Elizabeth Warren was making. Repubs are so stupid that they don’t realize their overreaching on everything has rekindled this debate. That’s exactly what happened in Wisconsin with dumb-as-a-rock-college-dropout-never-ever-has-had-a-job-in-the-private-sector Gov. Scotty Walker. He and Repubs there woke the sleeping giant, which is exactly what needed to happen.
Thankfully President Barack Hussein Obama and other politicians, Warren Buffet, and now that she has a much bigger megaphone, Elizabeth Warren, and so on, have been reminding people all along what the Constitution is all about. It does start with “We, the People…” after all…not “I, the Person…”
With more and more leaders talking about shared sacrifice and promoting a “we’re all in this together” attitude, we’ll be able to truly take back America from the Rupert Murdochs, the Koch Bros and their kind. And to have President Obama and it looks like Elizabeth Warren in the Senate leading the way, we’ll that ball will be rolling faster and faster, and America will be stronger than ever because of it.
Now first things first….everyone get involved with your local OFA chapter and let’s get back the House and strengthen the Senate! It’s showtime, boys and girls!
oh! I just saw this out on twitter – wow! that is absolutely the truth. sounds a lot like my mom when she would talk about social responsibility. great stuff!
Such a terrific comment, thanks for sharing Meta.
She combines common sense, plain talk and empathy. Can you imagine how effective she will be in the Senate?
I will try and help her get elected – fingers crossed

OT TOD. Please, if you haven’t already, and I don’t know if anyone posted this info (if so, my apologies), call, fax, email these creatures for the sake of Troy Davis, scheduled to die today:
Governor Nathan Deal—-404-657-7332; Fax 404-657-1776
D.A. Larry Chisolm——912-652-7308 (his line is very busy)
So far, his request for a polygraph is not yet honored; there’s a motion to have ballistics tests reviewed in a neighboring county.
His request for a polygraph has been denied. It’s just gut wrenching.
Rev Al just stated that if they can get the tests back in time, it’s important. I am not sure whether they decided to grant or not. Rev Al just kind of ran through the happenings. Pres. Jimmy Carter, Pope Benedict, members of congress, Desmond Tutu all so far have been on board to defend him. Whether he is guilty or not (seems to be the going meme now), the evidence is too inconclusive. Rally in Philly at 5pm. Mass rally going on now in Georgia where Troy is jailed.
Thanks very much for the update.
It’s about time ya’ll wake up to the fact that equality is for equals and the mandate on black males is incarcerate or eliminate by any means necessary.
Let’s keep calling, y’all. I am reading on Twitter that even George W. Bush is against putting Davis to death. There is TOO much doubt to take this man’s life.
If ever Bush wanted to redeem himself, he should make that call. He’s let die enough under his own term as governor. We won’t talk about his term as “the decider”. All’s welcome.
One more contact. The judge issuing the execution warrant:
They are live blogging this at HP.. Here is the last entry
Today 12:54 PM Defense Attorney Tries To Explain Clemency Denial
HuffPost asked defense attorney Brian Kammer why he thinks Davis had been denied clemency by the state pardons board this week.
Kammer replied via email:
“Well, it is a police killing, and there is a reluctance in the entire justice apparatus not to admit such a big mistake has been made. Also, the Board is made up of a former DOC commissioner, a former cop, a former DA, a former Department of Juvenile Justice director and a former Republican state legislator. It’s a tough crowd.”
The last time Kammer said he saw Davis was before the board’s ruling. He said Davis had been “hopeful.”
Thanks Linda. I am just numb from concern and hurt about this case. On the other hand, the creature who dragged James Byrd to death in Jasper, Texas is scheduled to die today also, so I can just see the comments flying everywhere……”well the white guy got killed, so Troy needs to go too”. Look for it. The two cases are miles apart in details and charges.

A government health statistics survey released Wednesday finds nearly 1 million more adults ages 19-25 gained insurance in the first three months of this year. Separately, a Gallup survey also out Wednesday reports that the share of adults 18-25 without coverage dropped from 28 percent last fall to 24.2 percent by this summer.

Go to ABC News Videos and you will see a video of FLOTUS and POTUS at the DNC fundraiser last night.
The First Lady is just wonderful and Prez is is too. Just seeing those two flirt with each other is so cute and special.
get it Mich
Ha. Upper persuasion for a lower invasion.
anniebella – I’m looking and can’t find it – help me – I’m having an überblonde moment!!!
1. I have a procedural(?) question: *IF* PBO were to desire to “re-staff” certain positions in his cabinet (Secretary of the [insert title here - Treasury, Health and Human Services, whatever...] can he just DO that? Or does the new appointment need to be approved by our dysfunctional, abusive, bullying, insane, obstructionist Congress?
2. I just tweeted this:
@TheDailyShow – Jon, please don’t go Dennis Miller on us. @BarackObama is the hardest working man in America. obamaachievements.org/list
The new appointment would need to be approved by “our dysfunctional, abusive, bullying, insane, obstructionist Congress.”
Thanks UT! That’s what I thought.
So even if he wanted to make a change, he’s stuck.
Of course, the MEDIA won’t talk about that, they only whine, “he should blah fucking blah…..” makes me want to pull my hair out.
Try this on for size:
The English language has some wonderfully anthropomorphic collective nouns for various groups of animals.
We are all familiar with a Herd of cows, a Flock of chickens, a School of fish and a Gaggle of geese.
However, less widely known is a Pride of lions, a Murder of crows (as well as their cousins the rooks and ravens), an Exaltation of doves and, presumably because they look so wise, a Parliament of owls.
Now consider a group of Baboons. They are the loudest, most dangerous, most obnoxious, most viciously aggressive and least intelligent of all primates.
And what is the proper collective noun for a group of baboons? Believe it or not ……. a Congress!
I guess that pretty much explains the things that come out of Washington!
True…. Look it up. A group of baboons is a Congress.
Murder of Crows has always been my favorite. It’s just so…… randomly POE. And how can a Murder be a GROUP FFS???
hhmm hhmmmm…..tapping my fingers on my desk…..hhmmmm. Tally, I think he’s too far gone. He’s been having way too much fun courting disdain for this man who he once seemed to enjoy talking with so long ago. It’s the thing to do. Akin to the latest diet fad, vacay spot, exercise regimen….you know, the things privileged, non-working class folk can afford to aspire to do. Infectuous. Good luck anyhow !!
I understand. But I’m a Taurean. I’m stubborn.
I’m not going to give up on him without a fight. Especially considering the first 11 years of his show.
I read a very informativs daily weblog chapter today it has comments about the misinformation being spread about taxing.. it is in Eric’s daily weblog found in the Country Scribe by Eric Bergeson 9/20/2011. Eric owns a family run nursery that has been raising plants here in MN.for many years and he is involved in political events in the writing in his Weblog. He is very supportive of our president..It seems to me part of what he wrote would make good tweets..
Tally, did you ever find that video of the First Lady and President at the DNC Fundraiser last night? Well you know CHipsticks would come through for you. I hope you enjoy it like I did, our First Lady was a little frisky, when she said who knows what might happen. Barack Obama you were so bless when she agreed to say I Do.
