I have seen no criticism of Perry’s statement , “As a Christian I have a clear directive to support Israel’. If his foreign policy is determined by his religion the country is making a major shift, but no one questions it. I do not understand what is happening.
Well believe it or not, the Morning Joe gang was bashing Rick Perry big time about his statements. Joe Scarborough and even Chuck Todd were surprisingly tough on Rick Perry. I was pleasantly surprised. (I didn’t watch the show but I did see some video clips of that segment)
Good for them. And I think they’re genuine in their reactions to Perry’s statement. However, the cynic in me will say that this criticism is “allowed” on tv because it is an alignment with the goal of the republican corporate establishment: get a republican in the White House. They read the polls too: Romney polls significatively better than Perry against Bararck Obama.
Do you seriously think that Perry would be criticized as heavily if the polls showed that he’s the strongest challenger in the general ?
It’s particularly disturbing and irresponsible for Perry to make a speech, in New York, the same time that the President is in town and the UN General Assembly is grappling with how to deal with Pakistan’s bid for statehood. This act should make people who are inclined to recommend Perry take a pause and see the future foreign policy under this adolescent, ignorant, bully. There are serious consequences and serious dangers in acting off the cuff when it comes to global affairs. And Perry, and his ilk, think it’s so simple and just a matter of sounding tough. The world had eight years of Bush foreign policy, and is only just recovering. The world doesn’t need another Texan like Perry, messing things up for political and financial gain.
To think that it was un-american, even treasonous to criticize Bush according to the RW
Un-american to criticize a President during a time of war,
No limit to their hypocrisy whatsoever, they have no shame,.
What Perry did is very disturbing.
Imagine if it was the other way around?
During the Bush years?
I can imagine how the RW media would have reacted.
Far worst and dangerous, I watched the speech it was just brilliant PBO does have a vision for the WORLD.

Think Progress also has a post about Jennifer Rubin slamming Perry for the op-ed he “wrote” on Israel. Rubin says he didn’t write it. It seemed to me that she is saying that Perry lacks the sophistication and knowledge to write an article like that. IMO, she basically said that Perry is no mental giant when it comes to foreign policy, and I agree. It’s wonderful having a president in the WH who knows what he is talking about and writes his own op-eds.

I watched the speech at the U.N. live and it was great. He got a huge round of continuous applause even before he stepped on the stage. He made very salient and concrete points about war, peace, freedom, human rights, womens rights, AIDS, pandemics, economics, rights for the LGBT community all over the world, childrens rights. It was fantastic. He talked about the fact that a two state solution for Palestine and Israel would not be easy but it must be done. Both parties have to come to the table, lay out their plans but seek compromise and concensions where apt. He said Palestine has the right to become a state, but it must not do so by undermining Israel’s sovereignty. He reiterated what he said at AIPAC about the 1967 borders and urged Israel to step up because its young generation is tired of the prolonged conflict and the toll it has taken on them. He talked about the Arab Spring and young people rising up against tyrants in Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Yemen and demanding democracy and a government that works for all people be you rich or poor. He urged the U.N. to pass sanctions against the President and government of Syria for their violent crackdown on peaceful protesters. Finally, he called for open government all around the world because people expect and demand it. PBO was wonderful. It was a firm and stirring speech.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) announced yesterday that his committee plans to investigate government loan programs to private corporations out of a concern that politicians might exert undue influence to help those who donated to their campaigns. But Issa had sought government loans in the past for similar clean-energy products in his home state.
Letters show Issa lobbying Energy Secretary Steven Chu to grant loans to a Aptera Motors, a California-based hybrid car company; a San Diego-area biofuels consortium; and Quallion, a lithium-ion battery manufacturer in Los Angeles.
A good speech. It suffers from the old problem that Israel does not have to negotiate anything as long as the US supports it unconditionally. A Palestinian statehood is not a shortcut to a Palestinian state – in so far President Obama is surely right. However, it may be a necessary step along the road.
I honestly think that if the Israelis don’t step to the table with honest intentions within this next year, the President will take action next year to support Palestine. This was effectively the last chance for Israel, and they have not negotiated in good faith. I don’t mean to offend anyone, but the Israelis can’t keep building settlements while calling for Palestine to abandon their preconditions and come to the table. Who would come to the table with someone who refuses to honor their side of an agreement? It’s ridiculous, and it’s wrong. And unfortunately, it further isolates the Israelis, while the rest of the Middle East is adapting to the results of Arab Spring, where young people are seeking freedom and opportunity. I can’t imagine that this is what their ancestors imagined.
theo67, did you see this article in New York Magazine by John Hellemann entitled “Tsuris”? Tsuris means problems or troubles. Is a fascinating read. A look behind the scenes. This paragraph tells you what the administration is up against:
The next day, Netanyahu delivered his on-camera lecture to Obama. What enraged the president and his team wasn’t the impudence on display; they could live with that. It was the dishonesty at the heart of the thing. “I’ve been in more than one meeting with Bibi where he used the same language to describe the outlines of a deal,” one official says. “It’s outrageous—attacking the president for something he didn’t say, claiming he was putting Israel’s security at risk for stating out loud a position Bibi himself holds privately.”
THE TSURIS

Barack Obama is the best thing Israel has going for it right now. Why is that so difficult for Netanyahu and his American Jewish allies to understand?
Thanks Ladyhawke – I had not seen this article. It feels like Netanyahu is following the GOP tactics, and ignoring what’s good and right for his people and their security. I don’t think he’s actually speaking for the majority of Israelis, but the vocal minority extremists, and it’s a shame. Israel could be a force for good in the area, and instead, they are isolating themselves and coming off as ogres. I think they have to replace Netanyahu – he’s giving the country a black eye.
Netanyahu will be forced to grow up faster than he wants to. He has had to eat crow a couple times recently. He had to admit last month that PBO didn’t lie about the borders in his May speech, and he’s had to thank PBO publicly at the UN for standing by Israel. I was just discussing Israel’s predicament with my daughter earlier today. A nation cannot afford to alienate so many other nations in a region forever and keep thinking it can get away with it. IIRC, Turkey, Egypt, and Iran are clearly on the outs with Israel. Plus, Israelis have been protesting about economic conditions. I support Israel’s right to exist, but I also think it’s time for them to talk to the Palestinians. How much stress can the people continue to live under everyday, and how much can a leader really care if he does things to turn up the stress? If President Carter could broker a peace agreement between Egypt and Israel that has lasted almost 4 decades, I know something can be done, but it requires that both parties act with honesty.

After watching the clip of Elizabeth Warren take on “class warfare” I predict she will speak at the Democratic convention next year, win the senate sit and run for President in 2016. She might be our first woman President. You heard it here first.
I could get behind this, too. O’Malley has the experience and the goals, and Warren could take over in 2024. We need many, many decades of good governance for this country to right the wrongs that have been done by the GOP.
This video should be required viewing for all Democrats in congress and the White House. Elizabeth Warren is passionate and plain spoken. She gets to the heart of the matter. She is just remarkable. This clip is causing quite a stir and deservedly so. It’s brilliant. I hope it gets a million views.
VIDEO: ELIZABETH WARREN TALKS ABOUT “THE UNDERLYING SOCIAL CONTRACT”
I mention this for a few reasons. First, for those wondering why Warren has a strong base of supporters who adore her, this clip offers a big hint. Second, if there are lingering concerns about whether Warren could be an effective speaker on the stump, I think those questions are being answered.
And third, if more Democrats were able to make the case for the underlying social contract as effectively, our discourse would be vastly less mind-numbing.
I have not seem Elizabeth’s response yet, but saw her do many interviews when she was helping PBO with consumer protection. I was so impressed at that time with her ease of explaining things to the American people in a straightforward way and answering questions off the cuff fully without the political dodge. If she presents herself in that same way it is more than evident that she is on the people’s side. I had thought the other night when I saw clips of EWarren on Rachel that she could be our first woman president. What a contrast from Michele Bachmann or Sarah Palin. Another good Dem woman is Debbie Wassermann Schultz.
Warren/O’Malley or O’Malley/Warren for 2016. I don’t care.
Wow. That clip must go viral. The way she illustrates the contribution of taxpayers in general and of government as NECESSARY for the success of business is GENIOUS. I’ve rarely seen this argument so well articulated.
Folks, tweet this videoclip everywhere… The White House ( I would love to see PBO add this sort of language to his already impressive rhetorical arsenal) OFA, Democratic leadership, democrats, friends, family, you name it !
Warren is a natural. I loved her already, but now I realize what a political talent she is.
Obama Slams Palin: ‘All That Hopey-Changey Stuff’ Is ‘Still There’
President Obama, increasingly in campaign mode these days, stepped right up to one of the right-wing’s favorite attack lines against him at a fundraiser in New York last night.
“How’s that hopey, changey stuff working out?” Sarah Palin asked the audience at the Nashville Tea Party Convention last year.
Last night, Obama said it’s working out fine, though it may have been a little harder to pull off than he first thought.
“All that hopey changey stuff, as they say? That was real,” Obama said. “It wasn’t something …it was real, you could feel it. You know it. It’s still there. Even in the midst of this hardship. But it’s hard. When I was in Grant Park that night, I warned everybody this was going to be hard, this wasn’t the end it was the beginning.”
“Over the past two and a half years,” Obama said, “the hope poster starts fading. But I tell you what, you travel around the country and talk to the American people, that spirit’s still there.”
But it reminds me of an old line, paraphrased: He keeps sending, but we ain’t receiving. That hopey changey stuff has been up to us to keep going, as well as the President. If all of the people who voted for him had stood by him even THE DAY after the Inauguration (when so many in the PL lost interest), we would have not only the White House and Senate (with a larger majority), but also the House in our hot little Democratic hands at this time.
And yet, without real support, he has accomplished an amazing list of things for the benefit of the American people and the world. He’s a one in a billion person.
Fed Announces New Round Of Monetary Stimulus … Effort Meant To Drive Down Long-Term Interest Rates, Encourage Immediate Investment … Move Disregards GOP Push To Dissuade Fed From Helping Economy
Excellent! Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernake is INDEPENDENT. The GOP can;t tell him what to do. But they would like to control him just like they want to control the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Even Republican David Frum is questioning this attempt to micromanage and influence actions by the Fed. We all know they just want to continue sabotaging the economic recovery.
The next thing we can expect from the republicans is a new bill that mandates that any move the FED wants to make must have the approval of two-thirds of the members in each House of Congress. See, this is what they mean when they talk about smaller government when in reality they mean give the government, when they’re in control of it, more power to stop the things they don’t like.
Okay, Michael Moore is getting on my last nerve. Can you believe this twit wants President Obama to send the military to Georgia to prevent Troy Davis from being put to death?
Doesn’t this guy know that the President has no power or authority to intervene in local/state legal proceedings?
Okay?…Troy Davis has been on death row for 20 some odd years..yet MM didnt give a rat’s arse about him before this week. MM spent his time and focus worring about Julian Assange and Bradley Manning for the greater half of last year and this year. Then he switched to Bin Laden after May 2011. Troy Davis did not feature in any of MM’s rants. But now he’s gonna use Davis to try to drag the PResident into it.
Notice that the only time people like MM are concerned about issues is when they can drag the president into it and use the fame of the situation to make themselves get noticed?
Hope you nailed it. “But now he’s gonna use Davis to try to drag the PResident into it.”
I was just going to say did Michael Moore ever ask President George W. Bush to intervene in a death penalty case in any of the 50 states??? Every time there is some issue like this where things get down to the wire, Michael Moore springs up like rabbit and puts his TWO CENTS in about what everybody else should do. So now he manages to concoct this bazaar idea that President Obama should send the military to Georgia. Unbelievable. I hope someone will tweet Michael Moore and ask him why the sudden interest? Where has he been?
It figures they would invite Corney to join the panel. Lately the CBC has shown they are no different than he is.

What a difference with them and Warren Buffet.
Dangerous, evil….with even more billions.
I hope you guys boycott their products, no Dixie Cups, Angel Soft, Brawny, etc.

After watching the clip of Elizabeth Warren take on “class warfare” I predict she will speak at the Democratic convention next year, win the senate sit and run for President in 2016. She might be our first woman President. You heard it here first.
She’s a powerhouse. Warren/O’Malley 2016!
She may be the first Democrat to win Oklahoma (her home state) in……forever (ever?)!
PJ, I’m right behind you with the battlecry for O’Malley/Warren 2016!
I could get behind this, too. O’Malley has the experience and the goals, and Warren could take over in 2024. We need many, many decades of good governance for this country to right the wrongs that have been done by the GOP.
Well SHOOOTT! I like this. Lifts my heart. I think you’re on to something. awesome. Let’s get on with it.
Oh yes, that would be fantastic, I really like her.
President Obama in 2012, Elizabeth Warren in 2016,.
=====================================================================.
“The underlying social contract”

Phone number to the judge in the Troy Davis case is not answering. Suspect they got an overload as well they should.
Me4obama, I said that this morning also. Warren 2016.
Here is PBO live at the Clinton Global Initiative.

Thanks Linda. Did they speak already?
This made me laugh, on this sad day for justice,.

I love that story! I love President Barack Obama!
Here’s to Obama/Biden 2012 !!
And yet, without real support, he has accomplished an amazing list of things for the benefit of the American people and the world. He’s a one in a billion person.

Ben Bernake to the GOP “Talk To The Hand”
1) When economic motives come into question
http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/political-animal/2011_09/when_economic_motives_come_int032343.php
2) Bernake makes his move
http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/political-animal/2011_09/bernanke_makes_his_move032344.php
Good!
Okay, Michael Moore is getting on my last nerve. Can you believe this twit wants President Obama to send the military to Georgia to prevent Troy Davis from being put to death?
Doesn’t this guy know that the President has no power or authority to intervene in local/state legal proceedings?
No way! you’re joking right?? Don’t tell me they’re going to blame President Obama for that as well??
F them
They are as crazy as the teabaggers
I’m not joking..here’s the tweet sent ~ 1 hr ago:
/// “President Obama: Can’t you do like President Kennedy did & send in federal troops to stop this injustice in Georgia? The buck stops with u.” ///
Dirty rotten …
MM has no knowledge of federal powers whatsoever.
That’s sad proof of how damn ignorant Michael Moore really is.
Moore probably thinks this country is Venezuela.Gosh he so deserves a facepalm or a head on a desk
Cornel West who is currently advocating a 3rdpty primary challenge w/UncleTom Nader is joining an @OfficialCBC panel discussion Fri 9-23 #P2
So the Congressional Black Caucus are going to have Cornell West there.
I’m not commenting because it don’t want to type curse words.
This is good though:
