Thanks so much for giving us our president’s busy schedule today, Ms Chips. I was heartbroken to wake up this morning to find out that Troy Davis was gone, after all. So very sad.

    • September 22, 2011 at 6:32 am

Hiya Andogriff, I’m just numb about Troy Davis, I can’t begin to imagine what his family and friends are feeling right now. What a world. Thanks Andogriff.

Good morning Chips and friends and thanks for the schedule. I also found out this morning about Troy Davis. I fell asleep early. May Troy rest in peace. I am loooking forward to PBO’s speech near that bridge today. I saw Mark Knoeller’s tweet about the mud and $16.00 muffins on one of the threads yesterday. I use to really respect him but I am losing it. He has become the complainer in chief. :)

I am not beginning to lose respect for Knoller, I have lost it.

          • September 22, 2011 at 10:31 am

I too have lost all respect for Knoller and have held back an urge to be spiteful on Twitter. There is no many nasty things I would love to say, such as he should just go back to the donut shop and fill his face, or perhaps the sugar in the million donuts he’s eating has gone to his brain but I just don’t want to go there.

I am so sad Andogriff too. I thought with all the global attention Troy Davis’ life would have been spared. One thing for sure, we are all Troy Davis now. As Rev Dr MLK said in his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail”–Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”!

We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.

      http://www.africa.upenn.edu/Articles_Gen/Letter_Birmingham.html

They are doing this to curry votes from those republicans who wildly clap & cheer killing people as well as the over zealous religious right!

I believe this is a part of the republicans scare tactic and vengeance to insure a rootin’ tootin’, shoot ‘em cowboy, gun touting, bible thumping; ride’em, cowboy i.e Rick Perry to get the White House and protect them (white people) from dangerous Black people.

Davis was a Black man convicted of killing a white police officer—and in Southern and Northern states alike, this fact alone trumped all others.

In this respect with a sadistic, religious, zealot, like Gov Rick Perry running for Prez, it feeds right into their satisfaction some one will save
White people from dangerous Black people.

I was also very annoyed that the Georgia media described Troy Davis’ demeanor as defiant. Is that code for uppity? I also thought the McPhail family members who got satisfaction from the execution and smiled and hugged each other because they thought justice was severed was very annoying.

I understand their pain due to their loss. But, with the preponderance of doubt I can’t fathom how they feel justice was served?

It is incumbent upon them and the state of Georgia to fulfill Troy Davis’ last dying wish. They must find the real killer.

Bless Troy Davis’ soul for being so merciful.

Beautiful. Your analysis is spot on. Blood on America’s hands once again, and too many would love for it to be the President in the position of Mr. Davis. We indeed live in dangerous times. I am awaiting a renewal in my spirit to fight, because I was knocked down last night from this very poor decision of the courts. Troy was bigger than all of them put together, which I consider one more consolation in this sad, sad saga. God be with his family and with our President today.

      • September 22, 2011 at 10:59 am

Good morning everyone. i too had difficulty sleeping. But you are sooo right relellit when you said “In this respect with a sadistic, religious, zealot, like Gov Rick Perry running for Prez, it feeds right into their satisfaction some one will save

  3. September 22, 2011 at 7:21 am

OH, GOD!! just before I went to bed, I heard the news. It froze me. This is not what I was expecting form the SCOTUs. I truly believed they would have stayed.

I will pray for the family to find peace. More importantly, I will pray for the man who people said have confessed to them at one point or another to free his conscience and confess someday before he leaves this world.

    Thanks, Chips. Good morning everyone!!

  4. September 22, 2011 at 7:27 am

It is a sad morning indeed. Even sadder when we look at the hard hearts of the republican party that doesn’t mind spending my tax dollars on killings, but not on disaster relief or health care. I posted on twitter a bit ago that we (this country) needs our compassionate President Obama more than he needs us.

God bless everyone today. And may our President kick much republican ass again.

  5. September 22, 2011 at 7:34 am

The $16 muffin is a myth. MSM too lazy, will parrot just anything. Kevin Drum does what other could have done but prefer otherwise:

    http://motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2011/09/great-16-muffin-myth

    • September 22, 2011 at 11:13 am

Not only that, but numbers like that are misleading. Events catered like this have additional costs. Muffins aren’t served dry, with no butter, jam, cream cheese, or coffee without plates or utensils. Even delivery in a box has to include the cost of getting them there and the box itself. Throw in equipment rental, the margin for refills and seconds and spilled food, and you just about get to $16 right there. These reporters have never catered an event, just been to catered events, so they have no real idea about stuff like this.

My family caters their own events (we have a big family) and the costs just to rent stuff will surprise you. The Starbucks $2 muffin those reporters talk about were baked in massive amounts and just delivered by handing them to a customer.

Good morning TODers – spent most of the day yesterday with hubby at the hospital getting some testing done. Thought much about healthcare and how lucky we are to be covered by great insurance. Hopefully with Obama Cares more and more people will have this basic right – couldn’t help thinking this when seeing a wide spectrum of participants in the healthcare system yesterday. Tests were good and we are on for our trip to Africa on Friday. I hope I will be able to get a connection where we are so I can keep in touch with what’s going on. Will keep checking in today – I am looking forward to some good optics with that bridge in the background today. Hope all is well with all of you today.

The Supreme Court of the United States proved this to me last night

America is exceptional alright. Other countries that are as exceptional as we are.

    Zimbabwe
    Uganda
    Sudan
    South Sudan
    Somalialand
    Somalia
    Nigeria
Libya ( not sure about the new Libya)
    Guinea
    Ethiopia
    Equatorial Guinea
Egypt ( not sure about the new Egypt)
    Democratic Republic of Congo

Morning Linda. All these are African countries. What are you indicating here? Just curious.

      • September 22, 2011 at 9:40 am

i think what she’s trying to say is that the US says that it unique and evolved and sophisticated in it’s laws and in how it views the world, but its actions negates that point of view as the US appears to subscribe to archaic rules and regulations (with regards to Troy) with little of that unique and evolved spirit that it claims. I think she highlighted Somali, etc because when it comes to laws there isn’t a lot of evolution or sophistication, there’s an old worldness to them, and it appears last night, the Supreme Court proved that no matter how evolved and democratic we think we are, it seems that when it counts most, we still revert to that eye for an eye, limb for limb mind frame and ignore the progress we have made in the centuries since. I don’t think it’s a slight. She’s just pointing out the countries where “due process” and “innocent till proven guilty” aren’t exactly the letter of the law.

      • September 22, 2011 at 10:03 am

        Me, too.

For sure some countries and leaders in Africa have multitudes of problems, but to be sure, while I don’t condone or excuse any injustice anywhere, we are not the only continent with pervasive injustices around the world.

Hey TODers. I just want to say that while all the attention is on scumbag Perry, Romney is trying to use this to come across as moderate and sane. He’s just as bad as Perry and we need to make sure we don’t let anyone forget this.

      September 22, 2011 at 10:48 am

He may be trying to come off as a moderate but Perry isn’t allowing that. Perry has stepped up his attacks on Romney and vice versa. It’s like a dog eat dog world. Also, Romney is steadily punching more holes in his campaign. He was in Florida of all places, and repeated the meme that Corporations are people. They consist of shareholders, hedge fund managers and the like and so they shouldn’t be taxed because they’re the “job creators.” What he didn’t notice was that the people he was peddling that crap to weren’t applauding or buying his nonsense.

    Good Morning TOD –

I feel sad. I feel like this has happened to someone I know. It makes me feel…It’s hard to describe. It may be too soon, but ya know what? I’m not letting that Texas Governor be POTUS without a big-a$$ GD fight. I’m going to keep fighting. I’m going to keep working my wonky little self and trying to do the right thing. So here’s what I’m doing today.

I was so moved by Jacqueline B’s link to Amnesty international that I thought I’d put it here again. Check it out examine your heart. See how you feel about Capital Punishment.

Here’s their pledge to fight to abolish the death penalty called, “Not in my name”:

    AJA:
Because I’m the only staff member here I’ve been kinda swamped but I did get a letter out to Keith Ellison – thanks Meta!

Here’s the link for wh leadership I swear I’ll get this out to the repubs today!

also check out Contact Congress – on the bottom is the Super Committee page – have at em – thanks Africa for yesterday’s work :-)

And I’m making it my goal to retweet whatever the heck Bob says! :-)

Alec Baldwin has been livid over this case, tweeting away blasting the state of Georgia. He just tweeted this about an hour ago:

      “Obama….2012″

  12. September 22, 2011 at 8:47 am

There is an ugly, primitive, barbaric part of America that eats at our nation’s soul and is exemplified in Rick Perry (and in the callow, spineless Romney). People of hatred, revenge and bigotry feed on the ritual killing of others because it justifies their own sense of superiority and bloodlust. In the 21rst century no civilized society should condone the death penalty nor should that society stand by while its people, particularly those of color, are incarcerated at astronomical rates. Our criminal justice system is a big mark of shame that scars us as a people and diminishes our history. Sadly, the Republican party has allowed itself to be ideologically poisoned by the darkest, most sinister elements of American society. Their most favored spokespeople bray about cruelty, autocracy, and injustice as if these were points of honor. There is a dark battle for the nation’s soul that will be won or lost on 2012. We cannot let the dark side win.

That’s because PBO’s AJA is gaining traction and acceptance, so I see this as Bill trying to undermine him, once again. I am sorry to this day that I was mislead to vote for him as my eyes were not as open then to politics, which I detest, as they are now. Will not be fooled again. Bill is jealous and hateful, and I’d like to wipe that damn honky Arkansas smirk off his face. Fall down, Bill.

I really wish he would keep his opinions to himself and just work on the Clinton Global Initiative. This is just catnip for the media. Steve Benen’s piece on this is spot on. The reporting on the comments from President Clinton just exposes the lack of journalistic integrity in this country. The media pounced on his comments and took them out of context because they were desperate to portrait the negative spin – they were essentially lying by omission.

I saw him on Morning Joe today and for the first time in a while, I had to change the channel when Bill Clinton was speaking. He was so self-serving and smug. They were feeding his ego and he was lapping it up. Yes, Bill we know you created 23 million jobs during your tenure. Now it’s time for you to SHUT UP and throw all your political weight behind PBO and the Democrats and stop throwing PBO under the bus. He kept intimating that though he and other wealthy people benefited heavily and unfairly from the Bush Administration’s fiscal policies, that PBO was somehow wrong to ask the rich to pay their fair share. I was stunned. He’s saying this on Morning Joe. The show that sets the republican talking points for the day. He kept saying that though PBO’s AJA was a good start, he should be more aggressive in creating jobs in 2012 and stop worrying about the budget. Really???! Does he know that when one doesn’t worry about a budget…. it leads to…. drum roll please… a freaking GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN. He kept trying to intimate that the republican party in congress isn’t as worse as the republican party of the 90′s and Scarborough kept egging him on. No Bill, the GOP party of today has seen an influx of the tea party and that makes them 10 times worse than the GOP of the 90′s. Then he seemed to realize what he was saying and tried to self correct. he said, well 2011 is like 1995 when the GOP thought they’d won and that 2012 will be like 1996 when the GOP were dealt a blow and PBO will be re-elected.

Give an egoist enough rope and he will put his foot in his mouth. I know that sounds like twisted logic; so is the work of the intentional annihilation of PBO. Now we have callers on radio and on net pissed that PBO has “conformed” by not siding with the Palestinians on their quest for a seat at the UN. I need to read up on this as I was so consumed yesterday with the Davis case, I haven’t even seen footage and speeches of PBO at the UN. I do not trust Bill, and by extension, I do not trust his wife. Sorry. I don’t have a good feeling about Hillary, haven’t had since the campaign. She may fool me, and I’d gladly accept, but I don’t think many people in DC really have PBO’s back sincerely. Look at Peter Orzag, little squirrel, instigating at the WSJ (I have yet to read this also), but at POU, commenter states that the Susskind book was supported in part by Orzag’s statements. We need to do a little research into this also. Just putting it out here right now. We must be vigilante, as always.
