I promise, I’m not making this up – edp4bho let me know about the latest Fox/Teabagger outrage (even Brian ‘serious journalist’ Williams ‘reported’ it): the President held his right hand up for .23 seconds during the ‘family’ photo at the United Nations this week (he was jokingly gesturing towards the photographers, asking them if they had enough photos yet), obscuring the face of the man beside him for, well, .23 seconds.
Honest, this is actually being reported as news!
Well, true, it’s right up there with invading Iraq on false pretenses.

I’m reposting this stuff about PBO’s next itinerary from last thread. I think the only public thing will probably be the Town Hall on Monday.
He’s coming to Washington, California and Denver on a fundraising swing beginning on Sunday. It goes something like this, although I think some details are still in flux:
Sept 25th
Seattle: 2 events – Seattle morning brunch with donors ponying $38,500 per couple. Then a lunch @ $1,000, $2,500 for VIP seating, $7,500 for a photo op.
Silicon Valley (evening): 2 events — a fundraiser reception hosted by Symantec CEO for $2,500 general admission; $7,500 (or $10,000 for two) for photo op. Then an exclusive dinner at private home in Silicon Valley with $38,500 per person donation. That’s the highest ticket in the whole swing. Rumor is the host is Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg’s house in Atherton.
Sept. 26th
PBO will be in the Bay Area for the LinkedIn Town Hall.
Then the San Diego area for a noon lunch limited to 160 people at the home of Elizabeth and Mason Phelps in La Jolla. That will cost $5,000 per person; $10,000 per person for a photo line, and $35,800 per couple to be a VIP co-chair.
Then on to LA for a reception at the House of Blues. Prices range from $250 – $10,000. In the evening, dinner and discussion at a restaurant $17,900 per person, $35,800 per couple.
He wraps up his West Coast tour with a stop in Denver on September 27th.
He raised his hand and asked the photographer if he had enough pictures already. It’s a none-story just like most of the news.

Thanks Chips. First it was the tripping in Italy, then the car stall in Ireland, the “speaking while music played” at the Queen’s dinner. I watched a part of your show last night on the President’s hand in front of the face of the President of Mongolia. That you could or would spend a nano second on this, shows us just how far journalism has fallen. Journalism dies a thousand deaths every day and it certainly did. What would have been a great piece is how the Palestinians have decided to delay the vote at the United Nations thanks in part to President Obama making clear that peace negotiations should be between Palestine and Israel.
I am so grateful we no longer have to rely on NBC, MSNBC, TeaNN, ABC or any other corporate media for the facts. You are no longer necessary.

Donna, this was a good read. I agree with most of the article than disagree. 2012 will be a real test to see if folks are willing to vote against their own interest for someone who flip flops or someone who wants to make government, repeal all of our social programs. Time will tell.
I agree there’s a double standard, but I would like to meet the white liberal that presses the button for Romney or Perry on election day. Because, you what? They wouldn’t be liberals. Representative Michele (with one L) Bachmann is still getting paid and Governor Rick Perry is still getting paid while they seek to be the presidential candidate for their party. Amb. Susan Rice is doing a great interview on CNN with Blitzer. She called what Ahmadinejad said at the UN to be “odious, hateful, anti-Semitic, unacceptable … ”
She also took down Bachmann who must have suggested the US “bar” Ahmadinejad from our country, which Blitzer just had to bring up. Amb. Rice said something like perhaps Michelle Bachmann doesn’t know that we have a treaty as host nation and that would be a violation of the treaty, if we tried to bar any leader from coming to the UN, etc.

A President Bachmann or Perry would have us mired in wars for the next 100 years. That they don’t know something sometimes is okay, that’s what advisers are for, but when someone who knows tells them and they ignore it, that is dangerous. Both of these tools can hear the truth, ignore it, start some mess, and then, pretend they had nothing to do with it. Dangerous. Both of them.

Really needed to hear some live news this afternoon, as I wait for Rev. Al’s show. Turned on CNN earlier, and heard Joe Johns – who usually seems like a Republican hack to me – actually getting into the put down of the Rs for sending that first-ever letter to the Chairman of the Federal Reserve. Seemed like his heart was in it.
Then, that awful Gloria Borger (who keeps giving her opinion; even used the words “my opinion”; who cares what her opinion is?) also was saying Boehner is “frustrated” (cringe) but the reason she ended up giving was that he wasn’t able to keep the R House representatives all on the same page relating to the continuing resolution, etc. She mentioned Boehner said out loud that there will be no government shutdown. In MY opinion, he is admitting every day that he’s just playing more games.
Personally, I think Boehner is in way over his head. And then you have lots of misinformed people in the media too, covering issues that they barely understand.
I haven’t watched TV for a long time, but judging from what I read here and other places, given the dire economic problems in the country, I have yet to see these hosts bring on a “real” economist to discuss the issues.
They bring on the same people over and again, spewing their own opinions with zero facts. On twitter, you see the show plugs night after night with the the same invited guests. To me that just sets the stage for groupthink. And besides, all of these people can’t be “Experts” on every single darn issue — whether it is health care, the environment, economy, war and on and one.
Heck we can get our own channel and get on TV and each give our own opinions on what we think of a given issue and we’ll probably do better than some of these guys.
They do a terrible disservice to the country.
I saw a tweet the other day from the Economist. It said something to the fact that the media did a disservice to the public by inviting people to participate in political campaign debate that they knew did not stand a chance of winning not even for dog catcher (my own words — the dog catcher bit).
