Saw the whole show. It was awsome. i cried like a baby. They had nothing like this when i was on active duty, We even qualified for Food Stamps in the’50′s and 60′s.
It wasn’t food stamps then. It was referred to as “relief”. Most enlisted military that were married would qualify but would never take it. The military said, “We didn’t issue you a wife with your sea bag.” And that’s the way it was. My comfort level didn’t increase until i got over 8 years and promo to PO 1/c.
Do I hear you…loud and clear! I remember those days all too well.I didn’t work because we moved often..I look back now and wonder how we lived at all. When we married, I think my husband was an E3…I don’t have to tell you how little money we had to live on.It was hard, but we had no kids. I refused to have children then.Never thought of “relief” as a way to get through. We managed, but we never DID anything…retired as a chief…things got better, but by then, his 20years were just about over. It is only now that I am most grateful for his retirement income or we’d be living in our cars right now. His retirement is what has saved us now.
Not an easy life, but one the both of us would gladly do over again….thank you for your service to your country….I hope that people know that this President has done more for veterans than most in my lifetime.
Thank you, too, Desertflower. The Obamas are always saying that the family members serve right alongside their service member – and your story brings that point home. I still find it hard to believe that veterans have had to fight for a decent living when they get back home or retire. Wouldn’t expect that in a country with such an enormous Defense budget or the claim as the richest country in the world or the world’s largest economy. President & Mrs Obama have done a lot to bring these truths to light.
The back to back episodes were wonderful and FLOTUS was such a natural. A bunch of times she forgot about the camera and the film crew and was so engaged, involved, warm, compassionate, funny. Oh… I could go on and on. Great season premiere.
That was nice. Really, really inspirational. First Lady Michelle Obama was phenonmenal. In fact, this whole weekend with the Obamas has been truly phenomenal. Although he was talking specifically to the CBC last night, President Obama’s message resonated with me in a way that I haven’t experienced in a long, long time. His call to “press on” in the face of obstacles that hinder our progress and prosperity really hit home for me at a time when I am questioning my own personal goals and aspirations. My spirit is renewed to press on personally, and to press on to get our President re-elected for another four more years.
This is great. President Obama is really wise and he’s clearly done a lot of thinking to get to a place where he just knows wisdom, and knows himself. I think that’s why his words cut so deeply.
Thanks Chipsticks for posting this! I’m still watching it and crying like a baby from the joy and happiness I see. That woman Barbara is truly a hero and I’m so glad she is being honored and supported in this way. God bless her and her vision!
I used to watch this show years ago. But, I had to stop because it would just ruin my Sundays because it was just so touching that it left me in tears. This did it to me again! Wow!!
Thanks for sharing. I missed the whole entire show and judging by the above comments I missed it not once but freaking TWICE!! I missed my FLOTUS.
You’re the bestest Chips!
NIght All!
Watching the end of the show on the West Coast and not sure I could watch this on a regular basis because I spend the entire time in tears. Very touching stories. I wish Ms. Marshall and the Women of Jubilee the best.
Anyone who missed this show should really try to view it on Hulu or ABC archives. Maybe whitehouse.gov will have it eventually as it dovetails perfectly with the message of pulling together and respecting each other to overcome hard times. What a tribute to the strength and quiet dignity of our military service women and Michelle Obama’s grace getting us all to help her support military families. Incredibly moving!
Because I think Ms. Gaga is cool, I broke a personal rule and visited that HuffPoo link. My god, just the first page of comments made one of the insane Teebagger sites seem smart. Wow. I’ll never make that mistake again. I don’t know for sure, but I gotta think AOL is taking a major financial bath on their HuffPoo purchase. What a cesspool!
Sort of like Ruturd Murdoch’s brilliant MySpace purchase, where I think his net loss is somewhere in the $520 million range now.
This Lady Gaga needs to show more respect towards the President of the United States. He’s not one of her groupies. She may have an issue, but she also needs to remember that this President has been working to make life better for kids and other Americans for more years than she’s been alive. She seems to be trying to use him as one of her props, forgetting that he’s got the whole world on his shoulders. Her intentions might be good, but she needs to tread lightly. And with respect.

From the time Extreme Makeover came on till it went off, I sat there watching every minute of it. I am so proud of Barbara and what she is doing to help homeless female vets. I smiled, I cried, it was just a uplifting show. And FLOTUS reaching out to help, shows what a special caring woman she is and I am so proud to call her First Lady. We have to do all we can to make sure she will still be our wonderful First Lady 2012-2016.
I was flipping through the channels and guess who I saw on CBS the Early Show this morning, running her mouth. I guess she dug herself out of the fox hole, dust that old wig off and is all set to run her mouth. But where were she at Saturday night? She didn’t have the guts to attend the CBC Awards.
The show was great and the First Lady was magnificent.
Here is an article to counter that crap article from the NY Times this past weekend about “small donors”. If what the TOD family and others are doing for my fundraiser is any indication our media is being irresponsible (again).
Wow, it’s amazing that this great big group of people with great big hearts could build such a big home in just a few days. Mrs. Marshall is a true American hero, for sure. The spirit in that show just left me completely humbled. Wish I could find a place like that to volunteer here in my city. I will have to go and look at Joining Forces to see what I can find.
Then it’s off to L.A. PBO is scheduled to attend two separate fundraisers. As many as 1,500 people are expected to pack the House of Blues for a benefit concert at 4:30 p.m. hosted by “Modern Family” actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson. (Hating him in Hollywood!!) The sold out concert, with tickets ranging from $250 to $10,000, will feature performances from B.o.B., Adam 12 and the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles.
The President will then travel down to Fig & Olive on Melrose for a private fundraiser at 6 p.m. where the price per plate is a whopping $17, 900 per person.
I love the Fig & Olive here in LA – really beautiful little place. Wish I had a spare $17,900… Glad he’ll be in town. It drives me crazy that the media focuses on the traffic impact, even though LA is known for having terrible traffic every day and he usually moves around in a helicopter when he’s here. Oh well, the petty people will have their moment.
Dear, Chips, dear… Get some rest. You are loved and needed here…. We will see you tomorrow!
THANKS FOR SAYING IT! WE NEED CHIPS AT FULL STRENGTH.
Saw the whole show. It was awsome. i cried like a baby. They had nothing like this when i was on active duty, We even qualified for Food Stamps in the’50′s and 60′s.
I’m not sure I knew the food stamps issue for military went back that far. UNBELIEVABLE.
It wasn’t food stamps then. It was referred to as “relief”. Most enlisted military that were married would qualify but would never take it. Yardarm756, thank you humbly for your service to this nation. Thank you so much. HZ

flower you are right about the VA. They do,however, have a ways to go in the treatment of Vietnam vets.

Watching Extreme Makeover. I’m furious that Republicans voted against funding for homeless Women Vets. Unforgivable.

Sorry, I set my DVR earlier – it finished about an hour ago. They might rebroadcast it on the ABC network online.

theo67, what was it that Lady Gaga did? Before I make any comment I would like to know.
Huffington post has become a cesspool for the hateful tea baggers, and Arianna Huffington agenda, is in full display!

I’ve eaten at the Uptown Fig & Olive in NYC and it was fantastic. Really fresh, good food in a beautiful atmosphere. Fun!!
Morning Meta, thank you so much for the info! I’m confused about the time of the Linkedin townhall – do you know if it’s 11.0 or 2.0 Eastern?
Morning, Chipsticks!
The email I got form LinkedIn says, 2pm EST and 11am Pacific.
Thanks meta! I got confused by GOPolitico, they list it as 11:0 EST, but they have a habit of getting things wrong
That’s the time I have on my email from LinkedIn too: 11am pst / 2pm est.
I love the Fig & Olive here in LA – really beautiful little place. Wish I had a spare $17,900…
