Where is John McCain, the perennial favorite?

I looked at this schedule yesterday and shook my head. John McCain seem to be the only republican missing. This is precisely why PBO take his message directly to the people.

I think he was on with his BFF Schieffer *last* Sunday. Nobody puts The Mack Daddy in the corner!

they will continue to parade their TeaParty buddies until the Demowimps grow half a pair since pair would be asking too much and demand equal airtime

Charming. Goodness knows “a pair” means something. In the world of troglodytes, maybe. But let’s keep going with the notion that one could actually *demand* equal airtime of a private entity.

Fred, it’s not the Democrats fault that they aren’t booked on these shows. These shows demand that you say ANYTHING negative about the President, since they carry water for the GOP.

As utaustinliberal has pointed out, the Democrats have been holding press conferences on CSPAN and on the Democrats website. All you have to do is find these yourself, do NOT wait for the GOP tabloid media to pull these Democrats to the airwaves

And from the media, water-carrying perspective, having all those idjits on is probably considered a response/balance to the President’s press conference. We know how and deeply they think. /eyeroll

I wanted to encourage you all to get involved in an Occupy Wall Street event near you. The current tally is 1,023 events planned.

Here is how the event is playing out in our community.

We will be holding a Occupy event on Oct 15th in front of City Hall. We will have speakers, then march by banks downtown, and then some folks may stay for the duration.

The event is being held in partnership wth MoveOn – who is sponsoring a “Jobs Not Cuts” rally.

During the event I will be handing out a copy of “The American Jobs Act as it Affects California” and a copy of the American Dream Contract.

the Sonoma County Democratic party has officially endorsed this event. (they have previously been reluctant to officially endorse local protests)

The local paper has assured me they will cover the event (this never happens, especially when events are on the weekend or after working hours)

The local SEIU, AFLCIO, and nursing unions have endorsed the event.

    ——–

During the course of this movement, some folks will say negative stuff about the President, but that is not the overwhelming tone of the folks on the street. Folks are frustrated an they are mad at everyone. The good news is the the President has ideas that work to fix the problems, the Repubs don’t.

The issues being raised by this movement are strongly in line with PBOs agenda

    Raising taxes on the wealthy

    Fair business practices

    Consumer Protection Agency

Giving middle class families a chance

the list goes on and on

So… as I said in the beginning of this post, make some copies of the Fact Sheet for the American jobs act, load up on your voter registration cards, and head out to an Occupy event in a town near you. The direction of this movement will be determined by the folks who show up.

    We need to show up

I don’t like what’s going on at many of these demonstrations. Move On, for one, has not exactly been helpful to President Obama, to put it mildly. In Chicago today, there were demonstrations outside of Obama’s headquarters, protesting the war and the economy. There were anti-Obama quotes by the participants in the Chgo Trib story. And it’s such a hodge podge, it’s self-defeating. There were people protesting the Israel/Palestinian conflict, marching for gay/transgender rights, protesting the violence in the city etc. etc. etc. I would be more encouraged if they were demonstrating to get the jobs bill passed, against the total Republican obstruction and registering voters. This kind of messed up mess just makes people turn away and dismiss it, and I don’t like the anti-Obama noise I’m hearing. I think the whole thing is being railroaded, and I fear it will cause more harm than good.

Just goes to show even further, how tethered to the GOP our media is. This is why more and more monopolies should be broken up. A few people shouldn’t have the right to own all lines of media communication and be allowed to peddle their republican lies.

      //begin rant…..

Someone once said that Meet The Press should be renamed the “Meet The Republicans”. That would be a more accurate name.

On the Sunday shows, the Republicans will be joined at the tonsils with the various hosts. The Republican will be allowed to get their talking points out. It won’t matter how outlandish their claims and attacks against President Obama. They will not be challenged and called out FOR THEIR OBSTRUCTION and rigid ideology. I don’t expect David Gregory to do anything but sit there and nod his head as Paul Ryan spouts his lies and distortions.

      1) Will David Gregory ask Paul Ryan why he does not support the American Jobs Act? Will he ask him which elements he is against and why. Will he make it a point to say that Ryan and Republicans have supported elements of the AJA in the past? What’s the problem now?

      2) Will David Gregory ask Paul Ryan why the Republican majority in the House has not introduced any jobs bills at all in nine months??

      3) When Paul Ryan starts to whine that President Obama has poisoned the well because he has been taking the AJA directly to the American people. Will David Gregory say that this is what a participatory democracy looks like. Will he ask Paul Ryan where is his jobs plan. And has his plan been scored by the CBO? Will he make it clear that trade bills and no taxes for the wealthy will do nothing for job creation NOW.

      4) When Paul Ryan talks about the need to compromise, will David Gregory refresh Ryan’s memory about the debt ceiling debate and how President Obama worked with the GOP to avoid default? Will he mention the number of times that Cantor and Boehner walked out of meetings. And what about the time when Boehner refused to take the president’s phone call.

      5) When Paul Ryan says that President Obama is campaigning instead of negotiating with the GOP, will David Gregory ask Paul Ryan why the Republicans in the House can’t do their job when President Obama has provided all the information they need to vote on the AJA. It’s not that complicated.

      6) Will David Gregory ask Paul Ryan why the Republican Party is actively trying to sabotage the economic recovery?

The answer of course to all of these questions is NO. Because David Gregory will get temporary amnesia on Sunday. Paul Ryan will not be challenged. Bottom line the Republican Party IS NOT a credible opposition party. They are a laughingstock. There is no seriousness of purpose. They should be called out for being un-American and un-patriotic. Because we all know that is exactly what they would be calling the Democrats if the roles were reversed.

      //end rant….

Why can’t we boycott their shows? Something very specific. Like turning them off for a quarter, or however they check their ratings.

It’ll only count/matter if you (1) let the networks know, (2) let your kith and kin know, and (3) let anyone else outside those groups know.

I would really like to recommend that people try out Chris Hayes’ new show on Saturdays and Sundays. It’s really excellent and has a cool, relaxed vibe. They do all sit around a table (with a plate of muffins and pastries in the middle) and talk but it’s on for 2 hrs so they have time to really get into things and he rotates the guests out during the show depending on the subject. He’s super sharp and knows his stuff. He has people from all over the spectrum on the show, journalists, activists, politicians, writers, etc, etc and both conservatives and liberals. When they don’t agree he really leads some thoughtful discussions.

I quit watching the Sunday shows quite a while ago, I just couldn’t hack it anymore but Chris’ show is my new must see. Unfortunately it’s on incredibly early on the west coast but I just set the DVR. It’s called UP with Chris Hayes, on MSNBC, Sat 7AM ET and Sun 8AM Et (yikes). Really worth a look :-)

It sounds like quite a few TODers have watched his show but some have expressed disappointment because the show seemed to have had some problematic guests from day 1 – e.g., today where this Canadian “activist” (Naomi Klein) seemed to be encouraging people to not vote in 2012, while bashing the President. I seriously question the motives of ANYONE who would suggest or allow their show to be used as platform for discouraging voting and interfering with our democracy, particularly when the stakes are so high.

      • 22 chiara
        October 8, 2011 at 8:17 pm

Wow, I’ve watched it since it started and just watched Naomi Klein today and didn’t at all take away that she was advocating not voting. She is highly regarded and is very aware of the stakes so I cannot even imagine her advocating such a thing. I think I would need to watch it again to see that statement for myself to believe it. Unfortunately I deleted it already but I can go to his site.

I also don’t tend to take all criticism of the President as bashing. Today she and the others on the panel had a lot to say about the Keystone pipeline issue and they are very critical of the State department and their environmental impact study which was the basis of their initial approval of the pipeline. The criticism is very justified. They outsourced the study, which is fine but they outsourced the study to a company that has Keystone as one of it’s largest clients, which is not fine. And there are many people from Hillary Clinton’s former campaign staff involved as lobbyist. So it really is worthy of criticism.

I don’t necessarily agree with all the guests but I do like the discussion and unless someone is a rabid right-winger or Jane Hamsher, I’m open to hearing what they have to say and they I can make my judgement but I try not to discount them immediately. Of course everyone has the right to their opinion I think it’s just a shame to miss out on thoughtful dialogue because some of it may be critical of the President.

          October 8, 2011 at 9:00 pm

Agreed, but we’re likely playing with very thin margins with this next election, and so much is at stake, in my opinion, the whole kit and kaboodle. And so I understand completely that people are not exactly thrilled at the possibility that discussions that are critical of President Obama may dissuade some voters from voting for him, or voting at all. We might not have the luxury at this point in time to enjoy and appreciate critical discussions. Or it might be foolish when all efforts should be on the prize.

            October 8, 2011 at 9:20 pm

Well it would be my hope that one critique of one issue wouldn’t dissuade anyone from voting, but hey I guess you never know. I still can’t get anyone to give me a reference point to when she told people not to vote. Someone said she said it on Twitter but I checked her feed going back quite a while and didn’t see anything and I watched the show today and I feel like I would remember if she advocated that Americans stay home from voting.

But in typical fashion it will not be the former Hillary campaign staff turned lobbyists or Hillary Clinton who will get attacked…

All insults and attacks will be reserved for and heaped upon President Obama while the same PL purists gush about how great an SoS Hillary’s been, and what a tragedy she wasn’t elected instead of President Obama…

Not once will this atrocious decision and recommendation made by Hillary Clinton and her State Dept. be placed squarely on Hillary…

It will be as usual just another chance to bash President Obama and somehow romanticize Hillary and her team…

Thank you. That needs to be the foremost issue *now* and not waiting until next year. Know some young folks who will be 18 by Election Day, get them excited and engaged. In some States, those kids can register *before* their 18th birthdays. Make sure they know that!

I saw on Twitter this after this:@@aspirational12: “Tomorrow will be another Obama bash-fest propaganda on Sun. Cable News Shows.”

And I wrote a reply. “Lets have our “Crash Congress Phone Lines. They bash on Sun., we Crash lines on Mon. How is that?”

Reply from @aspirational12: “Great idea. I’m ready to crash damn lines and websites on Mon. that works fine with me.”

I am with Bobfr on this as well. We stay focus and do what we have to do. We need to also thank Chips for giving us a ‘heads up’ for these shows. We need to listen to those,,if we so choose and then decide which ones to e mail, twit, or and call on the lies. Listen for truths and untruths when it comes to our President. That is what makes us different and powerful. POB ran on truth and he works daily on truths. He told us from the get go that this would be a difficult road, but he said he will make mistakes, but he would always tell us the truth, even when it hurts.

Now we listen for these people who want to give us the untruths about our President, and then we go to bat for and with him. That is how we win this game. Got it. Okay. Lets get to work.HZ

I see that Luis Gutuirrez finally gets rewarded for his President Obama bashing and his attempt to depress Latino support for the President…

So it’s really just two Dems who will be supporting and pushing for the President’s job bill…

    • 37 Ladyhawke
      October 9, 2011 at 7:00 am

Exactly Chi. The best way to ensure a Democrat will get booked is to be negative about President Obama. It’s just disgusting.

Luis Gutuirrez is constantly hammering President Obama about the immigration problem. But just like job creation, there is just so much that can be done by the EXECUTIVE branch. Anyone who is paying attention can see that President Obama is doing everything in his power about job creation and the immigration issue. What is CONGRESS doing??

Immigration will have to be addressed by the LEGISLATIVE branch. Why isn’t LG going after his Republican colleagues who have been for immigration reform in the past and suddenly are against it. Why isn’t he rallying the Latino community to email and call their representatives and demand action on immigration reform? When you hear him talk, he makes it seem like the fault lies with President Obama. I just can’t figure this guy out. It’s so frustrating to see him on tv bashing President Obama.
