Good Bless our US Servicemen and Woman.
How heartbreaking for this man and his family. And we have people like Romney practically lusting for more wars with even more devastating effects on our servicemen and women. This is one more very, very compelling reason why Obama/Biden must succeed. Our lives truly do depend on it. May God heal this soldier and bless our president.
We rarely see this, I wonder who recorded it and put it on YouTube and I bet the President didn’t know he was being filmed. I have watched it like 10 times already and again thanks to those who serve our country.
I thought I was the only one who has been watching this video over and over since I found it in the comments this morning and left so emotional.
This was on the news this morning. I think it was our local news. The Corporal’s family uploaded the video.
Walking_on_ Sunshine, which local TV market is this? I just wanted to hear the portion from The Corporal’s family. I wanted to know what their thoughts are
Here is a local story I found http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/local/inland_empire&id=8386866
thanks a lot fot this link!
watched the local story from ABC above and it very touching. thanks again for the link LOL
I think it was Channel 5 Eye witness news, Minneapolis. It caught my attention as I was passing through the room but I wasn’t actually watching the TV until then. I don’t think it is a local Minnesota story. It looks like ABC are putting it on some of their local channels. I searched their website but can’t find anything else about it posted yet.
Walking…the post above is from the marine’s hometown….it has a video/story on the visit
Thank you LOL for posting the link to the local story. I just watched it. Had to leave this morning and only just saw it. It’s very sad. This young man has gone through so much. The President has really done well standing by the troops but I will be glad when these wars are over. I’m sure the Presidents visit gave some comfort to the young man and his family.
thank every one for providing the crucial links to the story. I cannot seem to get it out of my mind
I had the same thoughts as Me4obama above and I keep coming back to this short video and watching it since I logged this morning.
I too have NEVER seen anything like this Purple Heart award video and specifically including President Obama. It immediately made me suspect that POTUS did not know he was being filmed from his body languange. possibly this video was made by one member of the serviceman’s family/friends in the room as the quality indicates something that is not professionally produced.
I have never seen such a crucial moment on film or in person! It is very complelling as you sense the emotions of the soerviceman – Corporal Justin Crabbe – lying in bed trying to remain straight faced (with a clencthed jaw). He is trying to remain very attentive and strong in the presence of his CIC while a few parts of his body are moving slightly under his hospital blanket.
Corporal Justin Crabbe’ familIy (an possibly friends) also seems to be enveloped with deep emotions permeating the room and which come through the lens so overwhelming the soul of the viewer. their emotions make you wonder what you have personally sacrificed for the good of others around you.
I can also seen a tall black lady standing in the foreground and wearing a hospital gown. I cannot yet tell if it is Mrs Obama.
President Obama seems to know instinctively that others in the room are expecting him to provide a shoulder to lean on and carry the whole group through the emotions of the moment without making a scene. WOW what responsibility to carry by one individual who must face the tragic outcomes of his decisions in public with parents and others looking on!!
Thanks again BWD for sharing too could not help but wonder who filmed this clip and it made me so emotional with a combination of sorrow, a strong wish for the serviceman’s full recovery, and a sense of bewilderment on behalf of the family.
I was acting lazy and feeling a bit sorry for my self before I watched this video. but now I am ready to face the trivial challenges I faced and do my part for those depending on me. what a positive jolt for the mind and soul!!!!
ps; sorry for the long post
The young woman in the background is Darian Page(sp?) and is a veteran of the Iraq war. She’s been in a couple West Wing Weeks and photos. She started out in the beginning of the Obama admin. as the main receptionist. She then got promoted to assisting the First Lady through Joining Forces and the President as well. I forgot her title now but she’s like the Reggie Love to the President and Mrs. Obama on veterans issues. So when they visit bases (there’s a photo of her with Mrs. Obama walking into the Germany base), hospitals, roundtables, etc., she’s usually there in the background. I was struck on a video how young and soft spoken Darian is, but there was a photo with her in fatigues and a big gun, and she didn’t seem so quiet. I remember her saying that people think she’s quiet and shy because she has a soft voice and looks young but she also said her looks are deceiving. She said she’s about her business and doesn’t play.
thanks Janelle for the information about Ms Darian Page.
I did not remember her name but I do remember her being profiled in the Brian Williams NBC video of the First 100 days and who is who in the Obama White house. I forgot her millitary title but I remember her clearly being positioned at the entrance to the West Wing Office and I remember thinking to myself that no one is going to get by her if univited.
I am glad that she takes her job very seriously and I will be watching out for her in future activities related to veterans
Yes, I saw her in that Brian Williams special, and knew she was serious business, and destined for more great things, as well. So glad she’s assisting the President and First Lady on such an important mission. As with everyone, this video was very touching.
I pray for the healing of Corporal Justin Crabbe, may God surround him with love and courage to continue his recovery.
I hope this country realizes that we cannot keep sending our youth to war.
There are no words, just tears.
Bless his heart. We have the BEST President in the whole wide world and the BEST military in the whole wide world. Everytime I think of the immense sacrifices they and their families give for this country, it humbles me. Thank you thank you thank you.
Good morning, TODville.
What an emotional video. POTUS is always there for them, to find a way to comfort them. I’m sure his heart is very heavy. Just watching this makes me well up with tears. I wish we knew more about this soldier. I hope he makes a strong recovery. These are the sacrifices that are made for us every day, years on end. I just can’t fathom what it takes to be in the middle of war. I only hope we will soon see the day when most of our troops can come home.
A sad piece. I see same everyday at the VA hospital where I do some of my work.
And Romney delivers a farcical and superficial speech(written by the same guys who got us into Iraq) at the Citadel calling for more wars. The cost of these wars in life, limbs and money will linger for a long time.
Byo – You must be so honored to do work at a VA hospital. Thank you for your service there!
thanks a lot for your work on behalf of vets and their families
Chipsticks, from the report from the Rancho Cucamonga ABC channel linked to above, I noted that the family of Corporal Crabbe could use some financial assistance during this recovery. I do not know if the TOD family is in a position to help out here in some small way
Can’t get the tears out of my eyes, watching that again. Loved seeing Pete Souza in the hospital room, too, on the job – capturing these moments for the history books.
I can’t watch. It says the video has been removed by user. Sad face!
have you tried the ABC local news link provided above by LOL?
