    President Obama will speak before the Australian Parliament when he visits the country next month, Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard announced on Thursday.

    “I’m sure all members (of the House of Representatives) and senators will warmly welcome the president to this place,” Gillard told Parliament, saying Obama’s visit will have “historic resonance” on the two countries’ alliance, the Associated Press reports.

    “America is Australia’s greatest friend and strongest ally and the president of the United States will always be our most welcome and our most honored guest,” opposition leader Tony Abbott said to Parliament.

    The president’s trip to Australia was announced in September. The Nov. 16-17 trip coincides with the 60th anniversary of the U.S.-Australia alliance and comes immediately after the APEC meeting hosted by Obama in Hawaii.

    Gillard visited Washington in March, when she addressed a joint session of Congress.

          I remember that visit, I loved it,
          I had my alarm set at 4am in the morning not to miss anything, to watch the events live.
          I was so tired during the day doing my work though…major lack of sleep but it was so worth it.

            Christi, I remember his visit to England like it were yesterday. I was there outside Buckingham palace and watched him drive by in the beast. He was sitting on my side and I was at the railing so close. I screamed ‘Obama I love you’ at the top of my voice and I swear he looked over in my direction. (Probably wishful thinking but a girl can dream!) He is sooooooooooo dreamy in real life.
            I am so glad that you enjoyed watching it here on TOD, this really is THE site to be on.

        Me too, anniebella. And thanks to Chipsticks we never miss a beat as to their doings. Australlia is an awesome, awesome country….would love to be going with them, but being here will be the next best thing.

        Just want to say how proud I am of everyones efforts re AJA, and how much I enjoyed the rigourous debate regarding OWS. I’m lurking, even though I haven’t been commenting much…..my brain is really scrambled so have to take everything in in small doses, but I’m quietly partaking and so impressed with the intellect and spirit that is manifest here.

        Still waiting and anxious to hear that Donna will be receiving a call from our President…..like Chips says, “fingers and toes crossed.”

          Sue – Thinking of you in your recovery! You say your brain is a bit scrambled still, and I think you said you had earlier “imagined” something about President Obama. Not to intrude, but thought I’d share that a couple of years ago, my brain was scrambled by a rare, aggressive infection I had running throughout my body. At its height, I had imagined my son and I had worked for Michael Jackson when my son was young – don’t know where I got that, other than the fact it was just after MJ had passed away. I had other hallucinations that were weird. Luckily, for me – and I know for you – the brain heals, slowly but surely. Please don’t worry too much and be well, honey pot.

    Good Morning TOD.

    We are having a cloudy, rainy day today in DC but the sun always shines on our President. :)

    Called OFA Hdqtrs this morning since I haven’t heard anything from them about the Fundraiser Challenge and the lady took my message and said someone will be contacting me today. I’m not holding my breath. I was thrilled to see how much we raised this quarter. Ain’t no stopping us now…We’re on the move!

    I was fortunate enough to have been at the last one of these welcoming ceremonies. Its a pretty neat experience. The colors and the pageantry is loss on tv. It is exquisite to see in person.

    This is why the president continues to go around the country and push for the bill. If the media won’t do its job and educate the American people, the president will. This is not a case where he has to convince policymakers to vote for the bill. Members of Congress know what’s in it, and whether they support it, and why or why not (note, the why not part mostly consists of sticking it to the President politically). There is no tweaks that can be made in the bill to get policymakers who are opposed on board. The remaining force? Popular pressure. To break down the do-nothing Republicans by opening a can of whoop-ass from the people who hear the president’s message.

    Just made two phone calls. First, to Rep. John Duncan’s office to remind that all the Rs ran on jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs and that we are still waiting for a jobs bill to be introduced from the House and asked why are they still voting on abortion and planned parenthood and not working on jobs. Answer: Blabbering about how hundreds of bills go through Congress every day. I interrupted him and said that he isn’t answering my question and he said, “Yes, I just did.” I told him the American people are NOT stupid and I can tell him exactly what the Rs are doing: Keeping millions unemployed to try and put one man out of his job and that that is treasonous. My second call was to Jason’s Deli in Raleigh and asked to speak to the manager or assistant mgr. Explained that we met long-time friends there Tuesday evening as we came through town…..how I was so looking forward to an enjoyable evening UNTIL I walked in and saw the TV on Fox News…….said I purposely sat with my back to the TV, but the others were occasionally watching & as we were leaving some of them were commenting on a story O’Reilly was doing. I told him if I had been alone I would have immediately gone to mgr. and said, “Change the channel or I am leaving.” Reminded him that they are serving the public and that many of the public have no desire to be subjected to the lies and hate Fox spews 24/7 when they come into a restaurant. He thanked me and said he would pass it on to the appropriate people.

      In an apparent answer to the White House’s jobs proposal, Senate Republicans are planning to unveil what they call the “Real American Jobs Act.”

      Leading the charge are Sens. Rob Portman (R-OH), Rand Paul (R-KY) and John McCain (R-AZ). On Wednesday, Paul sounded a confident note, saying it was “unfair” for the White House to claim the GOP lacked a jobs plan.

Rand Paul is trying to bring down government, so he’ll be a big help. Luckily, I’ve forgotten anything about Portman, but I’m sure Ohioans will be looking for what he has to say. Yeah, right.

      Good to see she was around cos I am one of those who noted her “absence” at the time and wondered where she had gone for vac. Ms Malia is a beauty and so is her little sis Sasha.

      Special prayers need to be given for their Dad because he has revealed that like any father, he may not be prepared for what the future holds.

      I smile when I remember when President Obama said he prays for his daughters’ skirts to grow longer as they go out into the world everyday.

    It seems like Michele Bachmann was right. With Herman Cain’s infamous 9-9-9 plan, the devil most certainly is in the details. Even Cain is having a devil of a time.

    Economists, including George Bush and Ronald Reagan policy advisor, Bruce Bartlett, called it a “distributional monstrosity.”

    At a minimum, the Cain plan is a distributional monstrosity. The poor would pay more while the rich would have their taxes cut, with no guarantee that economic growth will increase and good reason to believe that the budget deficit will increase.

    Giving further credence to my own speculation that he 9-9-9 plan was thought up by his pizza marketing team, Cain is refusing to divulge the names of the economists that helped craft the plan. The one name he will admit to is Rich Lowrie, board member of the Koch brother’s think tank, Americans for Prosperity. Lowrie holds a bachelor’s degree in accountancy and he works for a Wells Fargo bank branch in Ohio.

    Even Cain’s own economic policy advisor said it wouldn’t have been the plan he went with.
