Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Tuesday, pledged to move a contentious Defense authorization bill through the Senate after several senior Republicans criticized him for blocking a vote on the bill.

The Republicans said Reid is blocking a vote because of provisions in the bill meant to ensure that detainees at the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba are not brought to the United States for trial. The Obama administration opposes those provisions, which would make it more difficult to bring detainees to the Untied States.

Reid on Tuesday said the Republicans are right in calling for a vote on the bill.

“My colleagues are right about the Defense Authorization Act,” Reid said, following a GOP floor discussion meant to highlight the fight. “We need to do this, we have always done it and we are going to do this. [N]obody is saying we are not going to do the Defense authorizations bill. We are going to do it.”
But Reid also sought to cast some blame on the GOP, which he has repeatedly criticized for obstruction in the Senate.

This is to make sure that President Obama breaks his promise about closing GITMO, nothing more.

I hate the GOP so much.

I also hate the spineless DEMS.

I dispise the GOP for what they are trying to do with this Defense Authorization Act for the same reason that you stated Tally. I really see the disrupted works of Sen. Graham, McCain, McConnell and Shabley. They all were on the floor and you could see the same on debate that they have made since POB has been in office.

These are people where it is so easy to hate them. They are so evil in my sight. I also hate the DEMS who will not stand up to these GOP monsters.

They want to break President Obama, and it makes you want to slap their faces. I had to get it out of my heart. I ask the Almighty to forgive me, but I will call it how I see it.HZ

Mr. Belefonte made a point. The GOP is trying to pawn off their shape shifted version of the Black community. One of the worst was Mr. Steele, IMHO. What I think is they are holding out a few golden rings, saying if you play by our rules and embrace our lies we will give you one. Oppressive forces have always tried to co opt a few members of a community to use against their own.

    • 17 PurpleShoesLA
      October 18, 2025 at 2:44 pm

Exactly. Thank you. In addition to Steele, I still remember when they trotted out Bobby Jindal, Louisiana’s republican governor (Indian-American) on national television to provide the “Republican response” to PBO’s State of the Union address early on. Such a joke and an insult (“oh, look here’s another POC that’s a republican, AND he’s a governor too, see how inclusive our party is??”) Luckily, this pandering backfired when Jindal just regurgitated the more tax cuts and no/bad goverment bullcrap and his “oratorical skills” (and I use the term loosely) were NO match for that of our illustrious Prez. Never ceases to amaze that the GOP thinks that all POC are that stupid to fall for this nonsense.

On a lighter note, HBO aired the documentary last night about Mr. Belafonte called “Sing Your Song”. It was superb!!

It’s a fact, if you are a person of colour, have no scruples, and want to be very rich — just become a black republican. Fox News will trot you out to denounce other people of color. They’ll probably give you your own show! You’ll never be out of work because the “liberal” media is always looking for one right-wing POC to counter the arguments of millions of POC.

In so many words he said then Senator Obama wasn’t seasoned (my word) enough, he hadn’t been in the “struggle” long enough. I am glad to hear that he have come to love our President Barack Hussein Obama has much as we do!

FTA FRIDAY: President Obama will sign into law free trade agreements with South Korea, Panama and Colombia on Friday, the White House announced on Tuesday.

After signing the FTAs along with the renewal of Trade Adjustment Assistance, Obama will deliver remarks in the Rose Garden and will be joined by business and labor leaders, as well as workers who will be affected by the bills.

“In his remarks, President Obama will underscore that these trade agreements will significantly boost American exports, support tens of thousands of American jobs and protect labor rights, the environment and intellectual property,” the White House said.
House Speaker John Boehner is not scheduled to attend the signing ceremony, according to his office. “At this point, he is not scheduled to be in town, since the House is not in session,” Boehner spokesman Michael Steel said.

When is the House actually ever in session? They are always on vacation!!

I think one of the Dem ads should just be a display of all the bills signed, and a listing of any Republicans that were present or voted for it - maybe a running tally at the bottom of the screen saying Repubs: voted = 0; present at signing = 0. Would tell it’s own story, and all the people who feel the difference in their lives will know exactly who worked for them and who didn’t. Could even use this just for all the times the gavel was banged and the words rang out “the bill is passed”! Although, the Republican side would just show post office naming after post office naming. They’ve been really good at that.

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) says President Obama’s new plan to pass his jobs acts in “bite-size” pieces is not going to work.

“When you look at the president’s jobs act, even if you break it into bite-size pieces, it’s spending money we don’t have, and you’ve got to raise taxes to pay for it, and to me, all that just makes the job of the debt reduction committee … even harder,” Lieberman said on Fox News Tuesday morning.

Obama has been urging Congress to pass components of his jobs bill in pieces, calling them “bite-size” pieces on the first day of his bus tour through North Carolina and Virginia on Monday.

“We’re not at an ordinary time anymore, and to me the best thing we can do to get our economy going and create jobs is to adopt the partisan debt reduction program out of the joint special committee,” Lieberman also said Tuesday. “Our economy needs a jolt. Paying for more state jobs is not going to be that jolt.”

I just watched the most moving video of a response to Rushbo about his response to Obama sending help to fight the LRA. Warning it is not easy to watch.

Most moving thing you’ll see all day. An #LRA survivor responds to Rush Limbaugh: http://t.co/S6vBf2k8 #p2 #congo

Yeah - I tweeted that Bush tortured people but McCain felt the need to say Obama has an “ugly bus” - and mentioned what a hypocrite McCain is. Then I added McCain’s daughter’s twitter address in the mix, since she might pass it along to her father - ha ha.

‘NOT THAT DIFFERENT’: President Obama on Tuesday drew a connection between the frustrations voiced by the Occupy Wall Street protesters and the tea party movement, saying, “they’re not that different.”

“I understand the frustrations being expressed in those protests,” Obama told Jake Tapper of ABC News in Jamestown, N.C. “In some ways, they’re not that different from some of the protests that we saw coming from the tea party. Both on the left and the right, I think people feel separated from their government. They feel that their institutions aren’t looking out for them.”

The president also said the “most important thing” the government can do now is “letting people know that we understand their struggles and we are on their side, and that we want to set up a system in which hard work, responsibility, doing what you’re supposed to do, is rewarded.”

I did enjoy the documentary a great deal as I said above, but Mr. Belafonte did have some less than flattering remakrs about my President in the Los Angeles Times this past weekend, one of which was that he never has had any real progressives left to the table and PBO is trying to find his moral compass. umm. what? Returned home to find in my Inbox and email (forwarded) from the same man who sent the lying email about healthcare reform. Also just saw it on my FB from the We survived Bush. You will survive Obama. They are asking racist or satire? It shows PO in a muscle shirt that says no job….no house….no gas….no food…no problem. Then underneath, has his quote from 2006 about the federal deficit. Title is Campaign Poster. Don’t know how to link this one…….usually I can do that. This email I WILL ignore. It’s obvious I am “getting under his skin”. I shared the link yesterday about infrastructure and how behind we are and the danger to our country of doing nothing. He commented: 1400 miles to Austin this past week. 600 miles are under construction……appears it’s already being spent. I ignored that too.

I grew up listening to Harry Belafonte’s music and had the pleasure of seeing him in concert 6 or 7 years ago. He was fabulous! Mr. Belafonte is a civil rights giant and I urge everyone to try to see his HBO special or read his book. He has talked the talk and walked the walk, including spending a ton of his own money to help finance the movement. He may have some criticism of the President, but make no mistake, he is solidly behind him. He is nobody’s fool, as you can see from this clip. And yes, he is still incredibly fione at 84 years old!
