Testing, testing. So far today I’ve posted 3 comments…none of which made their way into the conversation.

P.S. I’m pamelabrown and have clicked on “guest” because that’s what’s worked in the past.

    Fingers and toes crossed.

Oh that was so wonderful & touching.. we never hear about the good people, the involvement for years and years of their lives- just doing the right thing for the rest of us. I was so moved by this and by their obvious affection for the President I love & respect so much.

Great news about Gaddafhi. Personal day for me today and just getting back home. I had to turn on FOX news to see how they were spinning the news of Gaddafhi’s death. They are talking about VP Biden’s remarks about the jobs bill helping keep law enforcement on the street to avoid crime from going up.

    Haters gonna hate.

    • October 20, 2011 at 2:59 pm

I should have known the right wing were spinning because I just heard a question asked at Jay’s press conference about exactly the same thing. The reporters are so predictable in pushing the republican agenda.

Haha…Ed Henry strikes again! So, remember, he quoted Mitt Romney in a question to the president, and today, he’s quoting Marco Rubio in a question to Jay Carney. He’s literally asking a question by saying “respond to this Rubio b.s. quote. He’s not even coming up with his own questions! This is evidence of someone who is either: a) dumb, b) in the tank for the righties, or c) both.

      How did Jay answer?

      • 21 vero804
        October 20, 2011 at 3:09 pm

Basically Rubio said some nonsense about how the US didn’t play a leading role, this was all due to Europe, not the US. So Ed asked Carney to respond. Carney basically said that now is not the time for that, we should be satisfied with the outcome. He mentioned that Rubio did praise the US troops in his statement, so I guess that was Carney’s way of saying that Rubio wasn’t all down on the US in his statement.

So it must have been Ed Henry who yelled out about leading from behind to the Prez after his statement.

How they imagine repeating republican talking points is a question is beyond me. Getting the President’s response to every stupid thing that comes out of a repugs mouth is hardly what the American people “need to know” or even care about.

The reporters yelling out questions to President Obama drives me crazy. it is SO TACKY. I was glad President just ignored the jackals after making his statement.

Jay missed a great opportunity to embarrass Rubio and remind him that he didn’t think U.S troops.Show them no mercy at times and this was the time

          • October 20, 2011 at 3:42 pm

He probably felt it was too soon after the Pres took Eddie boy down a peg to ‘hit’ him again. Ed’s obviously not too quick, so we don’t want to give anyone room to suggest we are picking on him. (After all, irritating though he may be, he can’t help it if he’s naturally not too sharp = clueless without his GOP prompts.)

  11. October 20, 2011 at 3:17 pm

    Hi Chips,

Can we post the Libyan poster that thanked PBO, Amb Rice and the British and French leaders. I think the Libyan people are the ones to decide who deserves praise. Maybe it can be tweeted to some of the Talking Heads

  12. October 20, 2011 at 3:32 pm

I see April Ryan’s up to her usual BS reporting.

I bet she thinks she so smart.. Ughh can’t stand her!

From politico on the press briefing:

April Ryan asks about how this administration can reconcile the president being considered a “man of war” with the fact that he received a Nobel Peace Prize.

“He’s absolutely committed to protection national security interests,” Carney says. (3:07 p.m.)

Ryan follows up with, Can you still say that this president is still a “man of peace”?

“I can say that he’s a president and a man who desires peace,” Carney says, adding that Obama’s highest priority is protecting the American people. (3:08 p.m.)

    • October 20, 2011 at 3:54 pm

April Ryan needs to sit down and STFU. If the Libyan intervention had had a different outcome, she would have pounded PBO forever. This is a victory for the Libyan people and for PBO who chose wise diplomacy and strategy rather than the “going in with guns blazing” the GOP prefers–the one that failed so miserably in Iraq. Ryan is not a long term thinker. Sometimes in order to have a more lasting peace, one has to get rid of the stumbling blocks that stand in the way. OBL and Gaddafi were two of those stumbling blocks. If a robber with a gun were threatening her family, would she stand there with a gun in hand and not use it to restore her family’s peace of mind? She’d pull that trigger, and she knows she would. She’s not being honest or naive, she’s trying to start another vicious smear about PBO.

When I saw your comment, the first thing that came to my mind was “the skunk at the picnic”. I don’t know where that came from. It’s really weird.

  13. October 20, 2011 at 4:29 pm

I also think it’s funny Rubio and his GOP brethren called Libya “Obama war in Libya” and yet are pretty quick to dismiss this as a “French and European” win ONLY.

    Funny how that works!

BTW, I happened to catch Karen Finney on Dylan Ratigan show (not too long though can’t stand Dylan), and I gotta say, I’m glad she was not named Press Secretary. She is not effective at all. I know being on TV and being Pres Sec are 2 different things, but still she is NOT forcible enough at pushing back. Maybe she would have been different as Pres Sec, but IDK….

      October 20, 2011 at 4:48 pm

She wastes half of her response time on ‘agreeing’ with Republicans with ‘they all do it’ or some such nonsense, while the Republican shill is talking over her. She is the kind of pundit that gives Democratic messaging a bad name.

I’m really sick of it. I know I’ll get a barrage of “the media won’t let us speak” but too many of our spokespeople still suck. Some of it is better under DWS and Steve Israel but not up to the same force and energy and focus of Republicans.

      I don’t get it. I really don’t.

Hey Meabloom, I felt the same way when I first saw Ms. Martin’s hand pressed ever so gently against the President’s muscular chest . (According to comedian Sarah Silverman, he’s a real ‘thoroughbred’). ;) But I’m inclined to agree with Fred that we shouldn’t worry too much—FLOTUS got that! ;) I think it’s kinda funny the way some of us here at TOD (my married self included) get jealous when “other” women try to get close POTUS. :) :) :)

OH DEAR, MULTIPLE CHOICE MITT ON LIBYA

    The GOP line on Libya

    ===================

Mitt Romney has struggled badly to even pretend to understand national security and foreign policy. Today offered another reminder of just how lost Romney is on international affairs.

Have you had any difficulty discerning Republican presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney’s precise position on the US involvement in the NATO mission in Libya?

The one consistency has been criticism of President Obama. But beyond that, he’s seemed a bit all over the Libyan map.

ABC’s report identified five different positions Romney has taken on the U.S. million in Libya this year, and as my friend Elon Green notes today, there’s actually a sixth: in his book, Romney accused Obama of appeasing Gadhafi. I’d imagine Romney would drop this attack now, but I suppose one never knows with that guy.

Marco Rubio’s been all over news auditioning for VP with his BS “the French deserve ALL credit Libya” (no mention of our soldiers btw) so now he’s got out there and the other VP hopefuls and their surrogates are out to let him know not so fast…

    Rubio’s parents

Just beneath the wide assumption that Marco Rubio would be offered the Republican vice presidential nomination has always been a wavelet of chatter from Florida Republicans that he had feet of clay.

    And this, well, isn’t good:

During his rise to political prominence, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) frequently repeated a compelling version of his family’s history that had special resonance in South Florida. He was the son of exiles, he told audiences, Cuban Americans forced off their beloved island after “a thug,” Fidel Castro, took power.

But a review of documents — including naturalization papers and other official records — reveals that Rubio’s dramatic account of his family saga embellishes the facts. The documents show that Rubio’s parents came to the United States and were admitted for permanent residence more than 2½ years before Castro’s forces overthrew the Cuban government and took power on New Year’s Day 1959.

It isn’t entirely clear to what degree this was a story Rubio had been told or told himself, and the details include a touch of ambiguity, but it’s not great for the Florida Senator.

      October 20, 2011 at 5:24 pm

There’s a lot of issues re. Rubio which would be coughed up again. I remember all kinds of misdeeds with the Fl. Repub Party credit card—-family trips, replacing carpet in his home, lots of wine stops at the local wine shop, groceries, car lease payments etc. etc. etc. He had a bit of a Palin type grifter reputation there until the Repub Party decided to elevate him to senate candidate status and lots of stuff got swept under the rug.

    • October 20, 2011 at 5:29 pm

There is a great video further down the page — it’s the second video with Rev. Al. He interviews a latina who formerly was a recruiter of hispanics for the GOP but has now left the party due to their anti-immigrant rhetoric. She blasts Rubio in the video — saying that he is hypocritical because he and his family took advantage of government programs in order to get here and stay here, but then he turns around and supports the most vile anti-immigrant legislation and rhetoric.

I just don’t know what the deal is with these self-hating AAs and hispanics that stay in the GOP. It takes a different mind.

  24. October 20, 2011 at 5:28 pm

Rubio’s complimenting the French will come back to haunt him. Republicans hate the French…..of course, we owe our freedom from Britain in great part to the French fleet and Lafayette…..but they never admit that. I think President Sarkozy is much more concerned with his new daughter today than this.
