Oh dear…another 60 minutes of Obama derangement pundiotry?

    • November 2, 2011 at 11:45 pm

Michael Moore has told people at Occupy NOT to vote. My position on anyone who tells others not to vote is that they are attempting to take away their citizenship. This is unforgivable. If it true that Michael, West, Maddow, Maher, etc. are libertarians following Ron Paul then I understand more clearly their disdain for President Obama and other Democrats who are working to improve the lives of the poor and the middle class. It has been said that libertarians are Republicans who like to get high.

      • November 3, 2011 at 12:54 am

Don’t forget about Moulitsas (he’s admitted to being a libertarian) and Jon Stewart (based on the way he fawned all over Ron Paul in such an embarrassing fashion)

            November 3, 2011 at 4:30 am

Is it not revealing to have input from out of the beltway group think…even better when the voices we hear include people of color instead of the steady stream of white guys specifically a grouping at MSNBC that is overloaded with PA-MA working class histories. I’m re-posting my comment regarding Toure for you. As you see I’m a night owl & comment well within stupid ‘clock.

But 1st, let me add that Lawrence in his “Last Word Re-write” the other night scolded Limbaugh (rightfully so) for his continuous race-baiting, this time for the Cain defense screeds which entailed more race baiting. But what I found absolutely stunning, was the complete lack of understanding on Lawrence’s part about the hows and whys Limbaugh, et al operate the way that they do. In the segment, Lawrence displayed the photos of the 3 Civil Rights Workers slain in the sixties because they dared assist black voters in the south. With that, he stated Limbaugh was in college at the time and that those deaths were a part of his life’s experience. The point being, that the Civil Rights Movement occurred within his life experience. As a white man, Lawrence ought to know better that for a large swath of Americans, deaths of Civil Rights Workers are not a part of their life’s experience much less Limbaughs’. To assume his fellow Americans hold any accountability for this nations greatest stain is the height of naivete. There are just too many people that have no relationship with the Black Experience past or present, nor care to for that matter. Listen to fellow liberals vociferously resist simple observations or numerous pleas for self-examination on the issue of race, as was done by Melissa Harris Perry and others just to get folk to consider one relevant point: If the very idea of voting for a Black Man was in your purview in 2008 how can it not be a factor in your assessment of him today……Denial and a true self examination of white privilege just may the final frontier especially so for the self-appointed titular heads of the Talking Left.

Thats Toure, Love him —Novelist, Social & Music Critic Extraordinaire. He has a serious new book out on Race, Identity, Politics as defined, ‘Who’s Afraid Of Post-Blackness?’ Done with humor, bravado & reverence to contemporary culture. And thats my opinion based on excerpts I’ve read and the FABULOUS MUST-SEE appearance at Busboys & Poets, taped via CSPAN BookTV > SEE HERE: http://www.booktv.org/Watch/12894/Whos+Afraid+of+PostBlackness+What+It+Means+to+Be+Black+Now.aspx OR HERE: http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/Afrai. And if you think Melissa Harris Perry’s critics become un-hinged when challenged on white privilege, you ought to read Toure’s tweets ( @Toure ) just for laughs. He frequently retweets folks twisting themselves up in knots to call-out his alleged racism all the while exhibiting white privilege with insults & invective …..he never shies away from criticism.

                Hello amk for obama,

We have a lot of work to do!!! Each of us must own this election. If you know people, have relatives and friends in MI, FL, PA, and OH, please start talking to them about President Obama. First, remind them about the fact that on his first day in office, about 700,000 jobs disappeared, explain about the debt crisis that has gone around the entire globe, and remind them that President Bush did not include funding for the wars in the budget. President Bush fought the wars on the national credit card. President Obama has properly taken responsibility for the payments by including the funding in the budget. We have to get people to hear and see the improvements in our nation that President Obama has caused by making decisions beneficial to all Americans. ” We Can’t Wait!”

Romney has been tweeting anti-Obama stuff for the last 6 months and NOTHING about his current GOP rivals. Romney has been imitating, stalking and following the President for the last six months. Yet no one says that Romney is afraid of Obama (which he is). The PL (including MSNBC) are rooting for Romney. Notice that they are trying to bring Cain down too not because of Perry, but because of Romney.

      • November 2, 2011 at 10:40 pm

You are right Hopefruit, Romney is afraid of PBO. That’s why he follows PBO. I wonder if he really did those interviews with the stations that interviewed PBO yet?

Lawrence needs to spend his time and efforts as a journalist on more serious things..like the GOP who are obstructing the economic recovery. We don’t need this election year taken up with foolish distractions. Cain is NOT going to be the GOP nominee – that much is clear. It’s time for us to focus on things that matter.

I had a sneaking suspicion that he was going to do that. Happily, I was right. What an honorable thing to do.We sometimes voice frustration with him, but all in all, he’s a good guy that hates the fact that these women are unable to have their voices heard. He is very much pro woman, and I really appreciate that about him. Good for him…I hope those women have the strength to do the right thing….LOD just made the decision about the money side, that much easier.

      • November 3, 2011 at 12:58 am

I wholeheartedly agree with him. I remember the Debt Ceiling Debates (DCD). If there were anyone pro-Obama during the debates, it was LOD. His famous line was “Nothing is on the table, until every thing is on the table”. LOD know that President Obama putting the Big Three on the table and and asking that Republicans put revenues on the table was just calling the Republicans bluff.

In addition to being one of the greatest Presidents and Commander-in-Chief of modern times, President Obama is also the greatest Bluffer-in-Chief. His bluffing during the DCD really shone the light on the Republicans selfishness, hatred and bigotry, not only against President Obama but against those in our country with the greatest needs.

        • November 3, 2011 at 1:50 am

WJ, I think PBO has used strategy to show the American people whom these Republicans really are..

Repubs are: Liars, frauds, protectors of stolen and unearned wealth, divisive, limited, destructive. etc….. The President has them on the ropes and they can’t stand it and that is why they want him to go back to the table and meet with them again… I think the President is telling them to kiss his ass because he knows they can’t deliver their votes.. Every press briefing Jay does they ask him this question non-stop. The want PBO off the rode ASAP, ha, ha, he, he….

          • November 3, 2011 at 8:37 am

PBO gave them the benefit of the doubt to show that he was willing to negotiate. Faced with a wall of obstruction, he still got a lot of things he wanted. Once he knew they would go no further and saw their complete disregard of everything but their own corporate masters, he left them to their own stupid devices and inane mutterings and took his case to the people. This makes absolute sense and only the deluded and bought beltway media doesn’t get it (or doesn’t want to). Those who say that PBO was compromising since day one, need to get a clue. He got what he wanted while he had some semblance of a Democratic majority, despite the long list of doofus Dems. He gave the R Congress a chance. They blew it. Tough nuts for them because the contrasts he’s drawing between a true man of the people and the R’s (for reptiles) is becoming clearer to people by the day.

President Obama is a one-of-kind guy. He is his own person and he does his own thinking. Yes, he gets advice and has good advisors especially from his inner circle. People like Chris Matthews try to put him in a definition of what they THINK he OUGHT to be like. He keeps them off balance because he marches to a beat of a different drummer. They are trying to drag up past presidents and mold him into a version of what they think he should be. HOWEVER, being who he is he will not be defined by them. He is defining himself by himself and his actions. He is a man’s man, he is strong, he is a powerful leader, he is a great husband, he is a great father. He knows what he needs to do and these talking heads cannot get a grip. GO, President Obama. You know what to do and how to be!!! I totally believe in you. You are a great success.

Right on, Vitamin, they’ve been trying to pigeon hole him since day one to fit their pea-sized brain misconceptions, but they just don’t “get” him. In the typical behavior of school yard bullies, that means he’s the problem, not them. This latest Mathews idiocy about JFK is just one very minor, stupid example of today’s dysfunctional media not getting basic concepts of individual differences. In Mathews case, he does even understand the idea that times change. Hopeless.

The Rewrite LOD just did was quite personal for me. The reason: The last ‘real’ discussion my Republican hubby and I had about politics was the end of August and at one point, he brought up PO’s grades from Occidental College and “Why has no one ever seen them?” LOD did an excellent job on that segment, I think. When it gets posted on his website, I am going to ask my hubby to watch it. An interesting aside, my husband was in the Navy in the sub nuclear power program and still idolizes Adm. Rickover. Our son-in-law is also in that program and doing very well in it. Loved the way LOD talked about Carter being in that program and his success. Wish me luck. :)

Good luck. We have had this conversation before…fingers crossed for you tnmtgirl:) One step at a time.
As an aside, my husband retired from the Navy. He was a submariner. He knows to appreciate this President for the REAL SUPPORT of our Armed Forces through actions that will make a real difference for those that served their country, not the “pretend ” variety of support that says one thing in public, and does the complete opposite in Congress. Specifically, I’m thinking of John McCain. Never did one thing for service members that mattered. In fact, find the Rolling Stone article on McCain…written a couple years ago…I have the actual magazine somewhere…the title was something like Make Believe Maverick” Excellent article:) Good luck…:)

        November 2, 2011 at 11:42 pm

Ask your husband why he thinks anyone needs to see PBO’s grades and has he seen any other president’s grades? Thinking people who are objective know that PBO is obviously a man of great intellect. However, the constitution dictates only three requirements be met to run for president and they are age (35 years old), birth (American born) and residency (at least 14 years). The constitution says nothing about grades. Does he doubt the president’s intelligence because he’s black? Past presidents have proven you can be as dumb as a rock and not only be elected, but relected (see Reagan, see W., see McCain and Palin just for laughs). Ask him if he’s seen their grades?

      • November 3, 2011 at 12:17 am

I would like to see that segment on President Obama’s grades that people like donald trump bring up..just like the birther crap. It makes no sense but anything to try and marginalize our President.

        Good Luck!

      • November 3, 2011 at 1:01 am

Really??? Your husband wants to see this president’s grades when I doubt that he has seen any other president’s grades (except for maybe GW Bush’s which somehow the New Yorker got a hold of). He really thinks he got to be editor of the Harvard Law Review (one of the most competitive academic position’s possible) without good grades?

        • November 3, 2011 at 6:06 am

Thanks to all who replied and/or made suggestions. He brought the grades thing up when I said that NEVER, NEVER, NEVER had a president been asked about his birth certificate and how PO was being treated totally different and with different expectations than any other president. He threw in the grades thing–questioningly–and then also began making points about how GWB was treated and called names. I said, number one=NO comparison and number two=some of the things said about GWB were true and/or he deserved. I think LOD made all the points well enough that I won’t need to say anything else.

China has said it cannot commit to investing in the European Financial Stability Fund (EFSF) until the situation with Greece has been clarified.

European leaders hoped that China would buy EFSF bonds, injecting capital in the region’s financial markets.

The EFSF was one part of a three pronged rescue plan put together to solve eurozone’s debt crisis.

Last week, eurozone leaders agreed to boost the EFSF capacity to 1tn euros.

European leaders had been seeking investment from China, which has $3.2tn (£2tn) in foreign exchange reserves.

“The fund has not established details of its investment options so we still can’t talk about the issue of investing.” Zhu Guangyao, China’s deputy finance minister.

Excerpt from Condie Rice’s book….asidFormer Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says she and President George W. Bush were once given a mouthful of a scare — that they may have been lethally poisoned.

In a revealing ABC interview, Rice recounted the story while on tour for her newly released memoir, in which she details fears of radioactive attacks and smallpox in Washington after 9/11.

She and then-President Bush were in Shanghai just weeks after the terrorist attacks when Vice President Dick Cheney called in on a video conference line to deliver the unsettling news.

“The vice president came on the screen and said that the White House detectors have detected botulinum toxin, and we were all — those of who were exposed — were going to die,” Rice told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos this week.

“I remember everybody just sort of freezing and the president saying, ‘What was that? What was that Dick?” said Rice.

Botulism poisoning leads to paralysis, first starting with the face muscles and then spreading toward the limbs. In its most severe forms, the poison can lead to respiratory failure, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

That is the stuff of nightmares right there: Dick Cheney on a big screen saying, “You’re going to die!” How do you imagine he said it? Panicked? With barely contained glee? In a Darth Vader menacing voice?

As is obvious from the years past, it turned out to be a false alarm. Oddly, none of the reports in the media ask the obvious question of whether an investigation was done, why they thought they had been exposed to the botulism toxin, if anyone had called/mailed in a threat, whether arrests were made.e from the fact that this woman is an accomplice to all the ugly Bush years…this struck me. Cheney is really the evil spawn of satan.Truly.

Regarding Greece – NPR did a good segment yesterday morning. They had an analyst who said this might turn out to be quite a smart move from the Prime Minister, because he’s making the people accountable for their future. And maybe if they actually have to understand what is at stake, what choices are on the table, and the fact that they either decide to stay in the European Union or default and devalue their currency – both of which involve extreme austerity. It’s one thing for people to complain and blame the current Prime Minister for the sins of the past, but it’s quite another to have to face the music and make those tough decisions. Either way, they will own their future.

The sad thing is that the fat cats that rang up their debt funneled their money to other countries and they are basically sunning themselves in those other countries right now, leaving the working people (who are not blameless) to foot the bill. And Goldman Sachs is laughing all the way to the bank.

If MSNBC want to hire someone why don’t they hire some of the people out there who really needs a job. Not someone who mommie and daddy is loaded.

I think my comment about the Evil Cheney (Tweety says CHEEEENY) fell off the WordPress earth…do you know where it is, Chips?

Good Evening Chipsticks and TOD family. First, thanks so much Chipsticks for the tremendous work that you do to make this the best place to come to each day. I am totally grateful to you for keeping this as our beautiful haven.HZ

Secondly, it amazes me how the so call journalists have not been reporting on our troops coming home. They could even start a great segmemt of “Being Grateful for your Service” being that we are entering into the Thanksgiving Holidays. All of these Repubs being such “Flag wavers.” could come together at this time and back the POB and Joe and really make a difference for our country in such a beautiful way together. Just think of how this would prepare our nation in ways to start helping our troops to reenter into their lives during this homecoming. What a statement to have going on to help the Administration to kick off the jobs for our veterans with businesses all around the country. Now that is a great Thanksgiving Dinner Celebration.

But they are spending precious time bashing POB;Tweety trying to make POB into JFK; Ron and Rachel bashing him tonight; Mitt copycat; and Cain insulting women all over the country with his show. This is not right. We are better than this, America.

But the grown up shows up each time, every minute of the day, climbing stairs and giving his word to the people on how he will continue to fight for them, taking care of our National Security(that photo is showing some serious stuff taking place today); preparing to leave Washington to attend and represent this nation at the G20, and still be a loving husband and father.

Then these clowns are wasting time trying to continiously disrupt everything about him. Too bad they all fail to remember how this great Community Organizer walked the streets of Chicago talking to the “least of these” who were living in infested and very dangerous apartments.
But let Tweety and gang along with Rachel tell us that he just does not know how to connect with people.etc.

Lovingly talking and walking with the seniors who needed better homes, heat for their buildings in the winter months, getting out in the community and getting the people of Chicago to register( which helped elect Bill Clinton), going out in the inclimate weather to speak and organize in the basement of the local churches to organize the communities, and all the while, he could have been sitting in some of the most prestigousl aw firms in the country, let alone Chicago.
Oh, but remember, he does not connect with the people. He just does not show that he cares. So says his critics.

I think that we will just keep supporting Chips here and show daily, and weekly those great moments where our President has connected to the people, the children, the seniors, the world leaders ,and the students to show our thanks for our President during the month of Nov. After all, we will ne relecting him in One Year Nov. 6, 2012.

Since the MSM and others want to bash from now until then, why not lets support Chipsticks with great stuff to set up an ‘Our Paean To POB ‘ for the month of Nov., since we are looking forward to Thanksgiving Celebrations within our lives with our families. Lets lift him up.HZ

I love rainy weather, candles good books, and music:

I will start off with my praise:

He came into our hearts with notes of hope
A hope that brought out many a folks
He brought along with him David, David, and Val.
    Who all lifted our morale

    His beautiful baritone voice
Made us all consider our choice:

Some called us cool aid drinkers
But we were just part of the new thinkers
Who were willing to help a little unknown Senator
Become one of the greatest Presenters
Who carried us to the stage of the Winners.

    Hope We Can Speak
    Hope We Can Tweet
    Hope We Can Seek
    Hope We Can Keep
That is the man we helped put into the Highest Office of the Land
So now we will help him to continue to Stand.HZ

Goodnight Chips and my loving TOD family.HZ

Oh my…OW shut Oakland down…they reporting over 50,000….in the streets….and events turn deadly when this happened!!!!

A Driver ran over two people because he was upset at protests in the street. One of the occupy Oakland protesters hit by a car driving into protest just died.

This movement is not going away anytime soon….

  20. November 3, 2011 at 12:47 am

Hope the second report is really what happened…and No One got killed…but ob FB page they initially said that one had died…Mixed reports
Police arrived, questioned the driver and several witnesses, then let the driver leave the scene at 11th and Broadway in his car. Most of the officers on scene were BART police.

The two people who were injured, a man and a woman, appeared to be conscious and were taken to Highland Hospital. A spokesman there would not discuss their conditions.

Saw the ad on Lawrence’s show. Dynamite. (Looks like it was produced by some major studio in Hollywood!)

I like that ding against thoms and scalia. But too noisy. They need to tone down that background sound.

        I totally agree eleroy.

        THE CONTOURS OF THE CHOICE

I thought one of the most important points Bill Burton made was that even though the ad is about Romney, it encapsulates the agenda of the Republican Party. So yes, at this point in the process they believe that Mitt “Who Am I This Time?” Romney will be the likely GOP nominee. But even if it isn’t Romney this ad can be used as a template for any of the candidates. It’s the GOP agenda in a nutshell.

I am reading old articles and a book about president, finding details that I never knew esp. About the 2008 campaign. I didn’t know that when Sarah Palin said this “I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities,” she said to applause — Obama raised $10 million within 24 hours. Man our guy was and is an impressive money raising machine.

Just saw a brief clip on French TV of PBO and Sarkozy with PBO joking about Sarokozy’s new baby looking like Carla Bruni. He looks great and relaxed in the midst of this crisis in Greece. It appears that most of the talk is at the summit is now focused on this with Papandreou’s planned referendum on the international bailout package.

Greece crisis: Angela Merkel, Sarkozy warn Greece to accept debt deal or quit euro

        ====================================

Merkel and Sarkozy both said they hoped that Greece would stay on board, but warned that Athens would not get a free ride. “The Greeks have to decide whether to continue the adventure with us or not,” warned Sarkozy. “We hope to continue with the Greeks, but there are rules that have to be respected.”

“The Europeans and the IMF can’t release the sixth tranche of loans to Greece until Greece endorses the package of October 27,” Sarkozy said, calling for the referendum “if one is needed” to be carried out swiftly. The European leaders also pledged to stand by the euro, even if the Greeks were to vote against it.

“If the Greeks say they do not want to stay in the euro, we will accept it, but we will not abandon the euro,” Merkel said. “We do not want to let the euro be destroyed, we do not want to let Europe be destroyed,” stressed Sarkozy. “The Greek people are free to choose, but we are accountable for the stability of the euro zone.”

Following the talks Papandreou set off back to Athens to face a confidence vote in parliament. Sarkozy will host the leaders of the world’s most powerful economies at a two-day summit in Cannes starting today.

Good morning meta. What a mess? I was feeling cautiously optimistic last week. Then the Greek PM really ambushed the Eurozone leaders with his referendum announcement. Clearly Angela Merkel and Nicholas Sarkozy are furious. Can you imagine the tension in that meeting? I am watching BBC News now. We live in amazing times.
