Look at our gorgeous First Couple!

I commented at the end of the last thread how excited I am about the Win With Women 2012 initiative. What a genius move by Barbara Boxer and these women. The website is excellent, straightforward, and personal. Should bring some much-needed new blood and focus to the elections next November.

Republicans have overplayed their treacherous, diabolical, greedy hands. May they meet their comeuppance in 2012.

Suffice it to say (and notwithstanding that DISSSS-GUSTING picture) I would never subject myself to an imbecilefest like that.
But for THOSE THAT DID WATCH, with Cain and Gingrich this MUST have been a…..mmmm… defense of FAMILY VALUES discussion??

If the polls are to be believed (I take them with plenty of pinches of salt that I gag them), mittens is capped at 25% of repub base. Assuming that US is divided along party lines and give the repub vote share at 50% (I’m being too fucking generous here), it works to 12.5% of vote share for mittens while PBO is sitting at around 46 to 50%. So why are the pundtwits still bolivating that mittens still has a chance over PBO ?

What is my concern, assuming Flip Flop Willard IS the Republican nominee, is that some of the voters who voted for PBO first time around might be convinced to think that Flip Flop is so abysmal a candidate, there’s no reason to show up to vote PBO and that he wins by default.

We have the Kochs and other big money interests trying to buy more Republican puppets in Washington, and with voter disenfranchisement, EVERY vote counts. Imagine if many of these Obama voters voted last year in the midterms, we wouldn’t have trainwrecks like Lord Voldemort Scott in Florida who doesn’t even know the basic demographics of his state.

What worries me is this rumor of a third party candidate coming in from the “no labels” group or the OWS people – either demoralizing them to a point that they don’t vote, or taking away enough votes from President Obama that Mitt or Cain ends up winning. Anyone from the right would be a disaster for the world. I can’t even think of a third party candidate who would be stupid enough to pull a Nader.

    • November 5, 2011 at 10:29 pm

Right now he’s in a primary. Most republicans will come around once he wins the actual nomination and vote for him. They are very good at falling into line, and any republican candidate with a pulse automatically starts out with about 40% of the vote. PBO got quite a bit of crossover support in 2008, which was further helped by him running against a stiff McCain and his nutty sidekick. The “conventional wisdom” is that Willard will be more competitive because he looks the part, has major money behind him, and can somewhat debate. I think PBO will crush him, but that’s just my biased opinion.

I’ve got a feeling that this Tea Party nonsense has actually caused many traditionally Republican voters to vote for Democrats, just to keep the crazy out of office. I get this reading a paper out of Tampa Bay, where apparently even the Republicans in Florida despise Rick Scott.

I’m not certain if that translates nationally, but I just don’t see many Republican voters wanting to rally behind candidates who want to end Medicare, keep people unemployed, give more to the rich… heck go to some Republican districts and you’ll hear about them talking about how they want to see tax increases on the rich, but because of the national level noise, their local views are largely ignored.

As for Flip Flop Willard, he’s already getting heat from the right for being a liberal Mormon from the Northeast, and this is just the primaries. I don’t see them rallying behind Flip Flop should he get the nomination. The only way they’ll even consider voting for Flip Flop is if he pulls a Palin and picks some Southern right wing Bible thumper to get their votes. Nikki Haley of South Carolina comes to mind, although that would be an almost repeat of McCain’s mistake from 2008 with Palin, but Flip Flop seems to have no IQ or conviction.

      • November 5, 2011 at 10:42 pm

PJ – While I agree rethug base tends to rally around, they did so last time because of tundra twit. With that crazification factor having worn out its novelty, I don’t think mittens having a wingnut will have re-run. At this point, cross-over from repub to dem is more likely than the other way around.

        • November 5, 2011 at 11:00 pm

I hope both you and nintendo are right. The tundra twit thing cut both ways — she brought in votes, but she also repelled votes. Republican is not only a vote, but an identity for lots of people in this country. They may seem in disarray now, and their candidates all look insane to us, but they have a media on their side, they’re working structurally to rig the vote, and they are authoritarian by nature. The battle is in the swing states.

Apparently Rush Limbaugh already decided that OWS is being paid for by the White House – per Randi Rhodes on Friday. Given that the OWS were carrying around an effigy of President Obama today, that hardly seems likely.

An effigy of PBO? For real theo67?

            • November 5, 2011 at 11:35 pm

And right there is my problem with OWS – its motives are pure and wonderful, but, predictably, the movement is being hijacked by Firebaggers/Kochites/frauds like Hamsher, Greenwald, Uygur and Moore. Whatever about Moore, Hamsher (who is tying her OWS fundraising to pleas for donations to FDL), Greenwald (the Kochobot who is declaring himself to be a champion of OWS while promoting his new book) and Uygur (who has launched a PAC on the back of OWS – but where will the money go??) are trying to profit personally from OWS. And they are all working towards one purpose: the defeat of President Obama in 2012. Pure and simple.

          • November 5, 2011 at 11:58 pm

Fricking bastards. That right there is why I don’t support them. Their cause is just but somehow, they’ve managed to corrupt the cause with their lack of foresight, education and common sense. That’s why they’ll never win, because they, like the Repugs, cut off their noses to spite their faces. Idiots.

        • November 5, 2011 at 11:06 pm

And, those like Michael Moore are lying on the left and telling OWS not to vote..and PBObama is staying strong and sane in the middle of all the stupidass lying clowns.

But I freely admit to still lookin’ at them a little sideways, though. I’m looking for more meaningful actions, (VOTER REGISTRATION, ANYONE???……) and I’m not sure of the Canada connection or the nutty/lazy/hateful progressives that seem to either co-opt or make money from it.

Nah isonprize, I saw the video on Youtube yesterday and posted it.

I’ll admit there are the radicals of the OWS movement who think voting doesn’t mean shit and just lap up the likes of Michael Moore, but there are the good ones like the two Iraq vets who were hurt by corrupt cops in Oakland exercising the rights they fought and nearly died to protect. And of course, the many that aid the homeless. One thing I’ve learned is not to paint with a broad brush. For every of the radical OWS folks that whines about PBO, there’s always a few actually being productive… but their productiveness is being drowned out by the ambulance chasers like Michael Moore and James O Keefe who want to co-op it for their own political shenanigans.

“Cain says he’ll never answer harassment questions

Speaking after a one-on-one debate with rival Gingrich on Saturday, Cain cut off reporters who asked about allegations of sexual harassment and suggested journalists who wanted answers were behaving unethically.

When one reporter tried to ask a question about the allegations, Cain cut him off. When another asked him if he planned to never address the allegations, he replied “you got it.”

Cain says his staff does not want him to respond to the stories and “we are getting back on message, end of story.”

Cain is playing to his base and of no doubt they love this. Of course if Cain were a Democrat they would be just as supportive because they’re consistently fair-minded, even-handed, family value-upholding patriots.

This stuff works in the short term. But Republicans are cut-throat and they will likely see to it that the full story gets leaked. So enjoy this while it lasts Cain.

And yet the rightwingers loved all the smears against Barack Obama over Reverend Wright, Bill Ayers, ACORN, and their favorite canards: the teleprompter and 57 states.

I’ve noticed that the right doesn’t defend their guys, they attack our side, namely PBO. I noticed it a lot on HuffyFluffy on the story about Rick Scott not knowing that the Tampa Bay area was referred to and called the Tampa Bay area. The many right wingers that showed up ALL repeated the 57 states canard. They KNOW their side has the worst of the worst, but won’t admit it, thus why they attack PBO and other Democrats.

  16. November 5, 2011 at 10:43 pm

I had a fascinating conversation with a woman who called the Dems’ office to ask to have her number removed from our call list following a robocall reminding people to vote. She was charming. A 70-year-old lifetime Republican, she voted for Obama and hated Bush…thought Palin was an idiot and was glad McCain wasn’t President. She proceeded to rattle off her laundry list of complaints; most of which I addressed. She wondered why Obama waited until now to start talking about jobs. Why hadn’t he done it from the beginning? I explained to her that the Stimulus package created 2 million jobs, kept teachers, police and first-responders on the job for another two years, and kept us from suffering from another Depression. She was old enough to remember the Depression and agreed Obama did the right thing. She did get the Stimulus and TARP mixed up. I explained to her that TARP was passed by Bush and then he dumped it in Obama’s lap to fix; told her that the banks had paid back the money they were given with interest and that AIG gave Treasury back 972 Million last week. She asked, “Why isn’t the media covering this?” I had no answer for her that wouldn’t sound bitter, so I gave no reply. We covered some other topics and she was very pleased I’d taken the time to respond. She will be voting for Obama again, methinks.

She would also remember the rationing that took place in WWII and ration stamps for certain foods. Just about everything was rationed for the war effort. Refrigerators, air conditioning, and touch-tone phones were unheard of. People had pay phones in their homes and that phone served the whole block. The fact is that this scandal and his response about people not being able to take a joke, or saying that the media was nitpicking – it all speaks to something more sinister. He doesn’t respect women, and he doesn’t see anything wrong with abusing power. He never once stated that these were serious charges, and that anyone who does this is reprehensible. And he now wants to brush it all under the carpet and move on. There’s no way that someone with those opinions and that low character should become the leader of the free world or control the world’s largest economy and largest stock of weapons of mass destruction. And there’s no way that someone of such little personal integrity and judgement should replace such an awesome character as President Obama. That would be a crime against humanity and nature.

Bi-partisanship is vilified by deadenders in both parties but it’s what the country wants. It’s almost as if the President understands this and governs accordingly. It’s almost like he’s smart or something:

“Public polling suggests that strong majorities of Republicans and Democrats favor political leaders who work together. A recent CBS/New York Times poll found that 85 percent of Americans say they want to see both parties compromise some positions to get things done.

All that explains why Romney and Perry, seen as the candidates most likely to win the nomination, are trying to courting ideologically diverse general election voters without angering the passionate partisans who dominate the primary season.”

    http://www.ajc.com/news/nation-world/in-gop-campaign-cooperative-1218345.html

Good luck with trying to sell your willingness to work with the other side Romney and Perry. Many in your party have signed a pledge to ignore what the country wants and expressed a willingness to work with Grover Norquist above all.

This is why I shook my head at the emoleft whining about PBO being too bipartisan and “caving/capitulating/bending over backwards for/appeasing Republicans…” do the emoleft honestly believe that PBO is dead set on turning the Republicans away from the dark side of the force?

The emoleft should look back at how President Bush’s “you’re either with us or with the terrorists” bully politics worked… most of the civilized world outside the US hate and despise his guts. Yet they fawn over and respect PBO because he isn’t a bully, BECAUSE HE IS HUMBLE AND RESPECTFUL! The fact that the emoleft sees PBO as “weak/spineless/aloof” BECAUSE he respects his opponents shows how politically tone deaf and naive they are. As Milt Shook points out, the middle is ESSENTIAL for victories, when the middle shows and supports our side, WE WIN. When they stay home, WE LOSE, as is evidenced by the midterms last fall.

One last thing….look out for the pipeline nuts to circle the WH tomorrow. The Sierra Club just sent me another email asking me to “tell” the President such and such. I told them “I do not “tell” my President how to do his job. I elected him because I trust his judgement. Carry on by yourselves.” I unsubscribe. I will have to do Twitter soon….I know, I’m a late bloomer…. :-D , because I have got to be able to fire at these clowns at will. Ay yi yi . !!

Yes, I got some email from some group wanting me to “tell the President” something or other. I think it was about the pipeline, and it came right after I read Tally’s wonderful post. I told them I trust this President’s judgement, and that he makes decisions after weighing all the complex information, and to remove me from their mailing list.

I’m turning in also. I just finished reading the story in Good Housekeeping about the friendship among, Gabby Giffords, DWS and K. Gillibrand. It is a long story, but very good. Suggested reading.

    ‘Night, friends.

There is no talking down. This is your professional left co-opting OWS to attack the President, fueled by the likes of Michael Moore and Cenk Uygar.

While there are actual folks in the protest movement who want to be productive, their attempts are being drowned out by these emoleft loudmouths who just want to be on teevee and more importantly fill their banks accounts. Heck, Michael Moore has been thoroughly exposed as funding his films through a company that has taken money FROM Wall Street and Goldman Sachs, Dylan RATigan is a former Wall Street man using OWS to peddle his “Get the Money out” bullshit… it’s the emoleft’s own Tea Party moment. What’s really telling of them is that many of them admit they have jobs, rant about how the rich need to pay more, but don’t want to do anything productive to CHANGE the system so that the rich pay more. They decry rich people making money off the backs of the middle class, yet kiss the ass of a fat piece of shit slimeball who has done nothing BUT make money off of the backs of the middle class.

While I support the right of these assholes to protest and organize, unless they pull their heads out of their asses, these protests will end up like the protests against Vietnam and Iraq, doing NOTHING and getting NOTHING done. Allowing the emoleft/Libertarians to co-opt this movement to push the agendas of the wealthy emoleft/Libertarian elite was a huge mistake.

So, #teabaggers you’ve got #PizzaCain molesting his employees, Newt buying diamonds for his squeeze while his wife dies of cancer, emulating McCain’s trashing his wife, also dying, who had waited loyally for him while he was a POW – That’s some kinda Christian family values you’ve got going for you.

We know the enemy and they are pathological abusers, liars and killers – and way more dangerous to our Republic than the Taliban, Iran, or anyone else.

    OK.

O/T- guys it’s the end of daylight savings. Did not realize that till I looked at my device, saw 1:15am and was like : “what the what?! It was 1 am an hour ago!!!” ha! We get an extra hour of sleep! My only problem with that is that I’m painfully aware at school that I’m there longer than I normally would be. Where the “extra hour” is a godsend at night, it’s a bloody bother during the day! :bleah: :( either way, happy end of daylight savings time day! :)

as for OWS, remember that there are people appearing there with so many different motives – including those who are working to sabotage and discredit the OWS mo\vement itself and prevent them from getting any credibility. one person with such sabotage intentions could easily carry an effigy of PBO if they felt that the movement was gaining strength that could benefit PBO.

my advise about OWS is to wait and see trends and not jump to conclusions du to one person

    Good Morning TOD,
I’m up early because honestly I did not sleep well after seeing that “effigy” thing when I checked in here on the blog last night. I’ve been up doing some investigating to see why on earth they would do such a thing.

Apparently OWS believes that the Obama Administration is going to give some kind of immunity to bankers for illegally throwing Americans out of their homes. I don’t know what that is about and this is the first that I am hearing of this. So they decided to have a march (http://occupywallst.org/article/occupy-wall-street-obama-dont-be-big-banks-puppet-/) yesterday and the “theme” apparently was “don’t be Wall Street’s puppets”. The “effigy” is a supposed to be a puppet. He was not “hung” in effigy. My blood pressure went right through the roof when I saw that mess last night. It was still stupid for all the nasty, negative symbolism that an effigy has but I was relieved to see that the intent was different than I had imagined. Although the Facebook page for this event is pure Obama Hate. OWS is a good cause with awful methods (with a few exceptions) to effect change IMO. Sigh!!!

On a more positive note…It was a very good day at OFA. Lots of people showed up and we made GOTV calls to Democratic voters in Ohio with overwhelming positive response. I also made some local calls for the President’s jobs bill. I had a very good discussion with one of the Precinct Captains about the obstacles to voters that OWS may present next year (especially the youth). They are fully aware and will be doing a major grassroots outreach to Hispanics, AA’s and Youth all across the country but especially in the battleground states. The voter registration drives that we are going to be gearing up to do will be unprecedented. Based on what I heard yesterday, I believe that for every OWS participant who thinks voting is meaningless we will replace them with someone who sees the value in voting. #YESWECAN.

OFA is doing a phenomenal job on the ground putting things into place for next year’s election. Please consider a $5.00 donation today because your contributions will help OFA build on what they have already started.

It’s two things, the Obama administration has that keystone Thingy that the Sierra club is making a stand on! And the settlement the banks have agreed for the 08 crisis, is about 20 billion…
The administration feels this is a mini stimulus and wants this done pronto. But, OWS feels the administration is being evil by agreeing to this!
Also, the crazy left made Nixon get into office. They were rallying and violent back in 68 against Vietnam. Peace love and happiness was their motto. Right after they spit on our troops on their way back from their tour!
Then, lbj announced he would not run for a second term! So, is that their agenda?
