With less than a month to go before the Iowa caucuses, Mitt Romney, the candidate shown by polls to have the best chance of defeating President Obama, evidently remains unacceptable to most of his party. He has spent the summer and fall playing second fiddle to a series of unconvincing “front-runners” who fade into the shadows once their shortcomings become obvious.
The latest is Newt Gingrich, a man with more baggage than Louis Vuitton – and the taste for fine jewelry of Louis XIV, judging by his Tiffany’s bill. Be honest: Is there anybody out there who believes Gingrich would make it through a general-election campaign against Obama without self-destructing? I didn’t think so.

…. the truly amazing this about the image is that it (a) shows no change between 9% unemployment and 8.6% unemployment; and (b) tells viewers that 8.6% unemployment is higher than 8.8% unemployment.
….. There’s a very good reason Fox News viewers are so confused, so often, about so much.

Washington Post: Michelle Obama now holds part of a world record.
The first lady announced in an email Monday that her October bid to break the record for the most people doing jumping jacks in a 24-hour period succeeded. Mrs. Obama says 300,265 people participated, shattering the old record.
In order to achieve her goal, Mrs. Obama led about 400 elementary and middle-school students from Washington in jumping jacks on the South Lawn of the White House. Other jumping jacks events were held around the world on Oct. 11.
The effort was organized by National Geographic Kids magazine in support of the first lady’s Let’s Move! initiative to promote physical fitness and healthy eating for children.

I’m thankful that she raised a huge buzz with her apology and it got people to sit up and take notice of the good Obama Care/ Healthcare reform does for everyday average people. However, what pissed me off is that she campaigned and volunteered for PBO in 2008, she runs charitable organizations, and she is an important activist in her community so by default, she keeps abreast of all issues. She was keeping abreast of PBO’s accomplishments and when it came to the biggest one of all, an educated person such as herself suddenly decided to tune out? That was very irresponsible on her part. She is not some adolescent who hasn’t lived through previous administrations or doesn’t know that life isn’t full of instant gratification and she tuned out? People like that annoy me because it seems that no matter how much one man slugs for them, no matter how much he sacrifices for them personally and political wise, no matter how much abuse he takes day in and day out it is never enough. People have to get up and take responsibility for their ignorance. Enough is enough.

Tien Le–Your post is exactly the perspective we all need to keep in mind. The Obama campaign never loses focus and knows exactly what needs to be done to get the electoral votes needed. We face a big problem with the state by state campaign to suppress the minority vote, but I firmly believe we can overcome it if we understand what restrictions are being placed and how we can make sure every voter meets the requirements. People are fighting back against the oppressive laws and we might get some lawsuits that will delay them. But we won’t let them defeat us.

Patriot Freedom Alliance, the Tea Party of Hutchinson, carries a picture of a skunk on its website and explains the skunk has replaced the eagle as the symbol for the president.
“It is half black, half white, and almost everything it does, stinks,” it states.
“It’s satire is what it is,” said Thomas Hymer, Hutchinson, who maintains the website, patriotfreedomalliance.org.
“Satire in a politically incorrect form,” he said.
Darrell Pope, president of the Hutchinson branch of the NAACP, said he sees no humor in it and called it “a blatant statement of racism.”
“It’s intended to be malicious,” Pope said.
Tea Party supporters can tout Herman Cain all they want, Pope said, but the skunk posting is “a statement of what they’re all about.”
The national NAACP previously has urged Tea Party leaders across the country to denounce any signs of racism.
Local Tea Party supporter Chuck Sankey agreed with Hymer that it’s satire.
It just makes a point that we’re in trouble and what’s happening doesn’t smell right, Sankey said. “That’s what it means to me.”
Regarding the reference to half-black, half-white, Sankey said, “Isn’t that the truth? What’s wrong with the truth?”
Obama’s mother was a white American, and his father was a black African.
“It may be offensive to some, of course, but in humor there is always an element of truth,” said Sankey, saying he is neither racist nor bigoted but is concerned about the direction the country is going.
If people are offended by it, Sankey said, his advice is: “Don’t look at it.”
Hymer said The News’ call was the first he had received regarding the item, which he posted on Thanksgiving week. He said the site has approximately 300 to 400 visits each month, and around 800 views, revealing visitors are looking at multiple pages. Patriot Freedom Alliance meets regularly and has hosted rallies in the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
Hymer, who is retired, started overseeing the website earlier this year. He rotates postings maybe once a month, particularly changing the homepage. He said he either found the skunk post on the Internet or received it in an email.
Cain is an African-American businessman who recently suspended his campaign in the Republican presidential primaries. Among Cain’s backers in Kansas was Jinny Walz, active in the Hutchinson Tea Party. Walz said Friday she had not looked at the local website recently.
Worse than the skunk item, in Hymer’s opinion, were Vice President Joe Biden’s comments during debt limit talks this summer comparing Tea Party Republicans to terrorists. Biden has denied he used that word.
Sankey said former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has been the target of worse insults.

Hiya Smilingl8dy, I arrived there much later than you, around 2007, and while I understood the bitterness during the primaries it just amazed me how much seething hatred there was for BHO, even before he was inaugurated. The place was just jammed with people willing him to fail and refusing to give him credit for anything. The last time I read a bunch of threads there was the day DADT was repealed – most of those who accused him of being a homophobe either disappeared that day, or kept on showering him in abuse. It’s astonishing, the place is just another Firebaggerlake.
But there are some seriously great people there – like Frenchie, who visits here – who kept battling away. Their spirit is something else, I just couldn’t take the place any more, beyond ugly.
I recognize all those names, BWD. I was on DU for 7 years before the Obama hate drove me away. At the end we were in the Barack Obama Group affectionately known as the BOG. We were driven underground on a Democratic board with a Democratic President. I am so glad to be a away from that place. There are some great supporters who stayed, though..it’s just not for me.
I saw one name in that line-up who was always an ardent hater..turns out she just wanted to be an ass and the thread was locked. Boy, do I not miss those “locked” freakin’ threads. There was another board I was I for awhile where some there got all in attack mode if anything Michael Moore did was linked..so, that didn’t work for me.

OT: I heard a song on the radio this past Friday at a restaurant and I liked it. The tune was running thru my head all Friday eve thru Saturday but now it is fading fast. The problem is I don’t know who the hell sang it (except it was a female), or what is the song’s title. I don’t know what genre of music (sounded like a contemporary easy listening/soft rock type ballad) or whether it’s a Christmas song or not. I hate when I’m looking for a song and I can’t find it because I don’t know enough about it. I feel like blaming the emoprogs for that.

The other popular one of hers that is a more catchy tune is “Rolling in the Deep”.
In the song I heard on Friday the singer’s voice was not as powerful as Adele’s and rather nondescript, but the melody was nice. I’m thinking it might be one of those earlier country singers like Faith hill but none of the songs i clicked on youtube rang a bell.

I’ve become a huge fan of Adele. The first song I heard from her was “Chasing Sidewalks”, and the video is amazing – with the dancers dancing while lying down. And there’s another video of her singing “Someone Like You” in her home, live – amazing. She’s very good – and refreshing. I hope she comes out of her vocal chord surgery better than ever!

In a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission said that Stiefel Laboratories, formerly a family-owned business located in Coral Gables, Fla., and the company’s then-CEO, Charles Stiefel, withheld information from and misled shareholders, using low valuations to buy back stock between November 2006 and April 2009.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the security contractor is announcing it’s switched its name to Academi, all part of an effort to be more “boring.”
Academi president and CEO Ted Wright told WSJ that the company has hired an outside company to help it apply for an operating licence in Iraq. “I think eventually, we’re going to get a license; we’re going to do business in Iraq,” Wright said.” The company formerly known as Blackwater is now the company formerly known as Xe.

A perfect storm is brewing for the Republican Nomination that leaves the door wide open for a late starter, so buckle your seat belts because you ain’t seen nothing yet. We’re less than a month away from Iowa. Normally, we would never be having a reality based conversation about who could jump in the race this late and pose a real threat.
However, the Republican nominating schedule for 2012 offers opportunities for late-starting candidates that weren’t available in years past. Given this new structure and the date-a-thon the base seems to be having with each candidate, the field could be wide open in January for a late-starter. In addition to the new rules, we have the added factor that the Republican Party is a house divided that has been unable to identify a clear, sustained front-runner that the base and the establishment can agree upon.

There are varying opinions concerning government’s role in Americans’ lives, and for conservatives, their constant refrain that government is too big and guilty of overreaching gives the impression that they are Libertarians in disguise. Libertarians have long complained that government has no right imposing rules on Americans, but they never consider the chaos or ill-effects of allowing unregulated businesses to cause harm to the American people.
Republicans want to shrink the government by eliminating programs, agencies, and regulations that protect the people to help corporations and the wealthy prosper while leaving 99% of the population to become worthless peasants to serve the wealthy. If any American with a 3rd grade education stopped and considered the beneficial role the government serves, they would admit that under Libertarian-Republican rule, their lives would be on par with the poorest Afghani citizen.

A group of port truck drivers thanked the “99 Percenters” on Monday for bringing attention to their profession, which they claim is rife with labor abuses. “Normally we are invisible,” they said. “The companies we work for call us independent contractors, as if we were our own bosses, but they boss us around,” the truck drivers said. “We receive Third World wages and drive sweatshops on wheels. We cannot negotiate our rates.”
