From today’s speech:
Good, a correction. But seriously, why was the ‘mistake’ made in the first place? Did they actually listen to the speech?
Lies and the lying liars that tell them. That would be a good book title. Wait,.nevermind.
This is what our “journalists” have become, fiction writers instead of reporting news. I guess when the gop tells them what to say, they don’t bother listening to the speech.
Debz, I just stole what you said to Digg the post from Chips: http://digg.com/news/politics/lies_lies_lies_5
Lisa, people just need to re-read it.
What’s her twitter handle? Time to blast her.
I am glad somebody call out Helen Cooper at The Times on her bullshit lies, lies, and more fucking
lies. The only reason they made the correction was they were cought fucking lying this is how FOX
operates sleazy bullshit.
Time to tweet and assault this liar with the truth.
Have you found Helene Cooper on Twitter? Haven’t spotted it yet.
Here’s her bio page at the NYT and a way to email her:
Hi Proud, I can’t find her (yet) on Twitter, but you can tweet here: @nytimes
Thanks, I sent three tweets. Liars.
A BIG yes let’s do it tweet all the way come on people!!!!!!
Chips – May have missed your coverage, but wanted to say: It’s Friday!
I cannot find a twitter handle for her.
I just left this in the comments section – I doubt they’ll publish it. Perhaps if more of us do this, they’ll have to.
“How lazy are you? He mentioned Palestine/Palestinians THREE TIMES: text of speech:
” And that’s why, as President, I have never wavered in pursuit of a just and lasting peace — two states for two peoples; an independent PALESTINE alongside a secure Jewish State of Israel. (Applause.) I have not wavered and will not waver. That is our shared vision. (Applause.)
Now, I know that many of you share my frustration sometimes, in terms of the state of the peace process. There’s so much work to do. But here’s what I know –- there’s no question about how lasting peace will be achieved. Peace can’t be imposed from the outside. Ultimately, it is the Israelis and the PALESTINIANS who must reach agreement on the issues that divide them. (Applause.)
And the fact that peace is hard can’t deter us from trying. Because now more than ever, it’s clear that a just and lasting peace is in the long-term interests of Israel. It is in the long-term interests of the PALESTINIAN people. It is in the interest of the region. It is the interest of the United States, and it is in the interest of the world. And I am not going to stop in pursuit of that vision. It is the right thing to do. (Applause.)
I demand you not only print a CORRECTION, but an APOLOGY.”
I left a comment, too, if it’s published.
Good work on twitter, I love retwitting all of the twitter post.
If I do that, can I end it with “You bitch, you” ? Just asking !
Fuck yes you can! :D
Well done, tally! You are absolutely right. In this situation, the only remedy is an unequivocal APOLOGY! This was not a typo or an honest mistake. This was pure, deliberate, propaganda intended to make the President look bad.
@HeleneCooper of The Caucus LIES about PresObama http://theobamadiary.com/2011/12/16/lies-lies-lies-3 Fact: He mentioned the Palestinians several times. #OBAMA2012
i’m late but retweeted
2 possibilities- is because the Ny Times did not watch the speech or they had their story written before the speech.
How often have you seen an Obama speech, then the pundits come on afterwards and say things that were not in his speech?
They are so predictable.
Either way it’s DAMN unethical. You don’t publish a report written before an actual speech, if the report is not corroborated by the facts of the speech. And you don’t write about a speech that you haven’t even read!!!
Does not matter what the possibilities may be. Stop lying about it media. Proceed as usual, just say nothing.
@nytimes’ Helene Cooper is a LYING WHORE – @BarackObama mentioned the Palestinians THREE TIMES in his speech today, not zero. CORRECT NOW!!
Thank you Tally. I listen to the President speech and he did mention Palestinians several times. It is ashame how disgusting these media people are.
This is the B.S. our President have to deal with. Where people will flat out LIE about something he said or did or didn’t do.. It is a disgrace. I want to send tjhis woman a email.
This is the same nonsense they did about the 1967 lines as a starting point for Israel-Palestine negotiations. The lie gets out, then so much time has to be spent telling people that he never said that.
tally, my comment is fairly close to yours. Eat it you bitch. Sorry if I offended anyone other than Cooper.
Cooper needs to learn to listen and read thoroughly, think about it and THEN try to write something. (sigh)
I blasted her and NY Times on twitter. I also attempted to post a comment on the actual article. I guess they have to be approved.
I signed up to blast her and they will not even accept mine….keeps telling me to add my full name or location.
I just heard on CNN that the marine in the photo in the last thread invited FLOTUS to the Marine Corps Ball next Nov. with her husbands permission, of course. She said she’d love to. How cute!! :-)
Ha! Another Politico headline for TODers to wait for!
Obama marriage on the rocks. Michelle leaves POTUS for younger man.
All our media enterprises have become so tabloidy and untrustworthy, that doesn’t even sound shocking any more. I expect to see it in the grocery line too.
That actually was the headline on one of those rags just last week at the supermarket. ” FLOTUS has secret affair”. I imagined to myself, wouldn’t it be nice if FLOTUS happened to walk through on one of her disguised shopping trips? :-D
Who is Politico? Who gives a “D” about Politico?
Exactly. I’m sure you know this is all a takeoff on Chips’ faux headlines from Politico!
jacquelineoboomer, I thought you were talking about the real right wing piece of trash.
LOL! Thats why I wrote these snarky headlines on the last diary:
Tomorrow’s headlines today:
FLOTUS leaving PBO — He’s lost even the family vote
FLOTUS accepts Date — USMC undercuts CinC
You’re the one who started everybody off on this, Alycee! Not sure you saw the last thread, after you posted, but some folks were having a go at adding to your list! Loved it.
I think the Obamas will be just alittle busy next November.
Hopefully just relaxing from a victorious campaign.
Quite true anniebella! ;)
Helene Cooper has ALWAYS been an unattractive TOOL with a BAD hair style. John Bolton, Bush II’s loudmothed, tactless UN ambassador is one of her mentors. She is originally from Liberia. She has ALWAYS written LIES about President Obama even before he was elected. She is just another member of the “liberal” MSM who is “in the tank” for Obama. (much sarcasm)
One would think the editors at NYT would go over her crap before sending it to print or allowing her to post that crap on her blog page. One would think that working for the NYT would mean something and she would fact check her crappy work. This is inexcusable. Did anyone over there even listen to the speech? A bloody third grader would do a better job with one hand tied behind his or her back.
Me thinks, we could send this to politi fact, have them check it and correct her, like a school teacher! Lol.!
Here is the handle for the politics opinions. @thecaucus I tweeted to this one as well. They’re the ones who posted the article on twitter.
I posted this at the end of the other thread. Here it is again. New video.
SMH at what passes as journalism these days!
“Journalists” have become gossip writers especially when it involves this President.
I also clicked on the link by the comments section on NYTIMES.COM, “Suggest a correction”, and sent them this:
“Helene Cooper’s headline states, “In Obama Speech on Israel, No Mention of Palestinians.”
That’s not just a mistake, it’s a blatant LIE.
President Obama mentioned the Palestinians THREE TIMES in his speech today, not zero. How on earth does this lying hack have a job at your newspaper??”
I sent them almost the identical thing. What a nasty lying bitch.
Out of curiosity, when tweeting, can you send an image like the one above with highlighted text?
That seems like a more effective way for advocates to correct misleading observations or “data.”
Afternoon speed read from politico-
Obama runs risk of overexposure with most recent media blitz.
Are younger voters disenchanted with Obama?
Jay Carney vs. Jake Tapper: The skinny.
Perry “retires” to boost pension pay.
And in Obama speech on Israel, no mention of Palestinians?
Overexposure? He’s not a movie star – he’s the President.
Swift boating is amateur hour. They are not even that good at it, just throw everything you have, see if it sticks.
Exactly. That crap from Alex Wagner yesterday about “PBO wanting to leave for Hawaii just so he could hula” really took swiftboating to a whole new level!
Hi everyone, just added the video clip where the President mentions the Palestinians THREE times – so, they were mentioned in his prepared remarks AND the actual speech.
Chips, you are the bomb.
Thanks Chips; this is great.
Boy, I hope the masses get the true context of this speech. SIGH!!!
It was a perfect speech Keith, justice for Israel, justice for Palestine ;-)
Yes indeedy Chips!!
Here is another point of view, Also on Hardball Chuck just had a gentleman in Israel on that said President Obama’s polls in Israel is at 53%-54% It’s a long article but worth the read.
The “pro-Israel” right loses it
by MJ Rosenberg, Foreign Policy Matters
It has been over a week since the lobby that deems itself “pro-Israel” began its recent effort to suppress the views of those of us it considers Israel-haters, self-hating Jews, or — in a most ridiculous twist given that most of us are Jews — “anti-
The effort to silence us now stems from (1) the determination to defeat President Obama, and (2) the need to intimidate us as the lobby and its congressional acolytes cowboy up for a bombing campaign against Iran.
I am one of the least significant figures to come under attack.
The bill of particulars against me is that I use the term “Israel firster” to describe those who consistently thwart the efforts of U.S. presidents to achieve Middle East peace. Their goals are those of the Israeli right: to maintain the occupation and prevent diplomacy with Iran.
These people (take a look at Jennifer Rubin in the Washington Post) think nothing of attacking the President of the United States in the most vicious of terms but condemn anyone with the temerity to criticize anything done by the prime minister of Israel.
As I have explained, it is not Israel they put first, but rather the Israeli right. (They had no objection to criticism of Yitzhak Rabin, whose pursuit of peace with the Palestinians led to him being portrayed as an enemy of Israel by many, including Israel’s current prime minister.)
After a week attacking me, they have turned their guns to bigger prey: New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman. Friedman is under attack for writing a column denouncing Israel’s foreign minister, Avigdor Lieberman, who praised the recent Russian election as “absolutely fair, free and democratic,” and lamenting a host of anti-democratic actions in Israel (all of which have been roundly condemned inside the country).
U.S. Signs Over Last Military Base In Iraq |
By Eli Clifton on Dec 16, 2011 at 4:00 pm
U.S. and Iraqi officials signed paperwork handing over Camp Adder, the last American military base in Iraq. The sign over marks one of the final acts in the U.S. departure from Iraq. Four-thousand remaining American soldiers are expected to leave before December 31. The U.S. also handed over Ali Mussa Daqduq — its last detainee, suspected of being responsible for killing five U.S. military personnel — to Iraqi authorities after a failed attempt to negotiate his extradition to the U.S.
Speaking of lies, and liars, Mitt’s at it again!
Contradicting Romney’s Account, Fellow Missionaries Say Candidate Lived In A ‘Palace’ On Mission
By Alex Seitz-Wald on Dec 16, 2011 at 2:30 pm
Seeking to show Americans that he can understand their troubles, multimillionaire GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney has been harping on the supposedly hardscrabble 30 months he spent in France as a Mormon missionary. Romney said he lived in apartments that were so rundown that he was forced to defecate in a bucket and shower with a hose. “Most of the apartments I lived in had no refrigerators,” Romney said last week at a town hall New Hampshire. “I don’t actually recall any of them having a refrigerator.”
But according to fellow American missionaries who spoke with the U.K.’s Daily Telegraph, Romney not only had a refrigerator and toilet, but a lot more. The missionaries said Romney spent most of his time in France in a Paris mansion that some described as a “palace.” It featured a cook, a servant, stained glass windows and expensive art, and later became an embassy.
You need to correct this error. I am sure it was not intentional to lie about President Obama’s speech. He mentioned Palestine 3 times in it today.
Maybe you were busy tweeting or texting and missed it. The video is up on c-span and the transcript is on the WH blog website.
I am sure we will see a correction of this most unfortunate error soon.
I tried 3 times to send this but that silly site keeps telling me I don’t have a full name or location
Keep trying – took me 4 times. Noticed that above the comment block, you have to put your username in again, even though you signed in already with a password.
Of course, I was in moderation last time I looked, so we’ll see.
I must have set my account up wrong…oh well I already e-mailed them about it on the “Contact Us” link.
House GOP Voted 191 Times Against The Planet, Earning ‘Worst Environmental Record Of Any Congress’
By Tanya Somanader posted from ThinkProgress Green on Dec 15, 2011 at 7:30 pm
House Republicans waged systematic war against the environment this year, attacking environmental protection through climate denial, oil drilling, weakening public lands and water protection, and obstructing responsible regulation — just to name a few. In summation, a House Committee on Energy and Commerce minority report reveals that the House voted 191 times to undermine the protection of the environment, thus “amassing the worst environmental record of any Congress in history.” Out of the 770 legislative roll call votes taken in the House this year, “more than one out of every five” were votes against the environment.
Yuk…. I see Chris Hayes waiting for the next segment of Rev Al…
oops… I guess it is Steve Kornaki.
Let’s see how many tines Rachel mentions Ron Paul tonite?
Under a Ron Paul administration, Rachel would be in jail for being gay! Seriously!

Hey TOD OT but Early Heads Up: Tonight is Christmas In Washington with the Obamas. Musicians galore singing holiday songs. It comes on at 8PM ET/ 7PM CT on TNT. Happy viewing! :D
Oh thanks! I’ve set my DVR.
Many, many thanks! DVR is all set.
Our President will deliver the 2012 State of The Union Address on January 24th.
See NYtimes is up to their usual tricks; my comment on the witches’ article is pending, in fact even after refreshing the page it still says “No Comments.” Maybe they’ve given the moderator the evening off…
I cannot get mine to even go to pending.
Mine went to pending moderation after literally three or four tries. Why don’t they just say they’re not accepting comments?

I suppose this is what their new slogan “Leaning Forward” refers to…
Why Did MSNBC Apologize to Mitt Romney?
December 15, 2011
So MSNBC picked up Aravosis’s post and did a brief story on it. Among other things, the story included a chyron that perhaps went a bit far, reading, “Romney’s KKK slogan?” What happened next is what’s interesting. The Romney campaign complained, and MSNBC began to grovel profusely. Chris Matthews read an apology on the air (even though he wasn’t the one who did the initial report), saying the network “reported on a blog item that compared a phrase used by the Romney campaign to one used by the KKK way back in the 1920s. It was irresponsible and incendiary of us to do this, and it showed an appalling lack of judgment. We apologize, we really do, to the Romney campaign.”
What’s odd about this is that MSNBC didn’t say anything that was false, and the fact that Mitt Romney’s xenophobic slogan was previously used by not only the KKK but also other groups like the Know-Nothings is obviously interesting and newsworthy. So it’s unclear exactly what MSNBC was apologizing for, although their statement seems to suggest that they now believe that when they heard that Mitt Romney was using an old KKK slogan, they should have just not said anything about it. That’s some courageous media for you right there.
Like I’ve said, the fix is in. MSNBC expects Romney to be the nominee, so they dont’ wanna lose “access” to the Romney campaign. I saw this apology and even I was wondering what the hell they were apologizing for.
Hell, instead of “Leaning Forward,” they’re bending all the way over & grabbing their ankles to boot… No vaseline required.
Yes Chips, I’m on the naughty mat.
I’m glad it wasn’t just me (or us) who found this line of questioning by the WH press corps about FLOTUS totally out of line.

I don’t even want to watch the video. The right wing has been pushing this BS for 4 years.
Hi everyone, just updated the post – the NYT have corrected their headline  Good on you for going after them ;-)
Thanks Chips – it was your post which prompted us calling them out in the first place.
Also, their “correction” still sounds petty and nitpicking. Okay it’s a speech about Israel so of course we would expect to hear the name “Israel” uttered more frequently – however, when he did mention Palestine, he did it meaningfully, not simply in passing.
And you, as well! :)
Good job chips.
“Hinani – Here I am” – Chipsticks, everyone, please go to ~ 34:10 in this magnificent speech today and watch/listen, if you haven’t already.
That segment – “Hinani – Here I am” – is very powerful and touching.
#YesWeCanDOMoreTogether – We Must!
Hi Chips…Don’t Forget “IT’s FRIDAY….Everythings Good” video.
She already posted it this morning, at the end of the ‘Rise & Shine’ post!
Yep, Thanks….got my fix, now I can begin the weekend.

A major Tea Party power player was arrested on Thursday for carrying a handgun into LaGuardia Airport.
Around 5:20 a.m., officials say, Mark Meckler, co-founder of the Tea Party Patriots, was taken into custody after trying to check a locked gun box containing a Glock 27 pistol and 19 cartridges of ammunition. According to the press release, Meckler told police officials that he needed the pistol because of threats against his life.
Thank you, Milt Shook, for saying what needs to be said!~

There’s No Such Thing as an “Indefinite Detention Bill” and Other Pro Left Lies
(Stay to the end, and watch me expose Glenn Greenwald as a liar once again.) One of the most galling things about the professional left is the number of times they lie to make a point. You can’t be a progressive and also lie to the people who read your stuff. As this blog notes time and time again, the truth has a liberal bias; Fox News needs to lie; we do not. Case in point; the hysteria over what many pro and emo lefties refer to as the “Indefinite Detention Bill.” Even people I often admire are buying into the hysteria, and it’s become depressing.
First thing you should know is, there is NO SUCH THING as an “Indefinite Detention Bill.” The actual bill Obama first threatened to veto and has now agreed to sign is called the “National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2012.” The part about the “indefinite detention” is actually a poison pill amendment Republicans inserted into the bill to portray any Democrat who votes against it or President Obama if he vetoes it as being “against our troops.” Republicans put it there, not Democrats or Obama.
Yet, who the hell do these supposed “liberals” go after? Not the Republicans who put that crap into the bill in the first place, of course. They go after the Democrats and President Obama, who have to fund the military (which includes my son, who’s working hard trying to rebuild Afghanistan, by the way) and have little choice but to put up with such Amendments. How incredibly stupid is this? Did so many progressive really learn NOTHING from the 2010 elections?
I was just about to post this article….I’m sick of the hysteria.
Thank you for this…
The comments are hilarious….and depressing. I guess some people just cannot absorb what they read.
Milt Shook, Deaniac, p.m. Carpenter and Norbrook are some of my heroes. Along with TOD and POU, their blogs have been relentless in exposing the lies and bad faith of the pretend progressives like Glenn Greenwald
I like this list! I think it’s something that everyone can agree upon, regardless of party affiliation!~
A Progressive Mission Statement: Positive Goals to Move Progressives Forward
Written by: Milt Shook
What follows is a list of positive goals that progressive politics should be about, in my view. You can disagree with them, or even add to them, but if you expect to add any, make sure they’re positive and goal-oriented, not just policy wishes. This is not a list of issues and policies; it’s a list of generalized goals that most voters can go along with, and which will solve most of our greatest societal problems.
We should all be less concerned about every little detail about how we get to where we need to go, and more concerned that we simply get there. In my humble opinion, if we stated these as our goals for our country, most average voters would be on our side, and we would be able to drown out the negative naysayers on the right.
Wouldn’t that be nice?
Well done, Chip. Very very well done. I don’t think you get the impact that this site makes. It’s bigger and bigger with each day.
Ditto to what BWD said!
So true, BWD!
Double ditto !! Thanks Chips.HZ
Cowards. The NYT blog – as Chips told us – has taken the total lie out of its headline, but still has refused to post any of the comments we all left there.
Another weekend. Another GOP suck fest.
Face the Nation: Newt Gingrich
Meet the Press: John Boehner, Michele Bachmann, Nikki Haley
Fox News Sunday: Mitt Romney
State of the Union: Jon Huntsman
This Week: Barney Frank, Robert Reich, Paul Ryan, George Will
They’re not even trying.
My response: I pledge not watch any of these “GOP suck fest.” I think if we all resolved to boycott the Sunday GOP show the mainstream might get the message.
I thought this was kinda funny, but I didn’t like the part about the POTUS’ reactions related to Perry and the drones. It’s pretty evident from President Obama’s demeanor after Bin Laden was killed that he took the loss of even that particular individual’s life very seriously. Other than that the letter was aight.~
My Dream Christmas Letter From Obama to the Republican National Committee
December 13, 2011
By: Tex Shelters
Dear Republican Nation Committee:
First of all, Merry Christmas. See, I’m not against Christmas like you think, ha ha.
Seriously, I know we haven’t always got along these last three years. However, I want to thank you for the recent discussions of issues you’ve had at those debates. They’re priceless.

this is our Chips right?
Picture this: Chips tweets Axe and he CALLS the NYT. I like that thought.
Cosign! I am Really proud of our Chips! PressOn!
what?!!!! Is Axe talking about our Chips?!!! Really????!!! what does Tbx mean?
Think he meant “Thx” – as in Thanks.
Unless he and Chips have a secret code going. Ha!
Psst, between you and me, ‘tbx’ is DA’s code when he tweets me, it means ‘thanks beautiful, kiss’. Honest. :???:
That’s me!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ha! I’ll confess, my heart went boomedy-boomedy-boom when I got my two word tweet from DA.
Good for you, Chips!!!
I have no doubt lots of WH, OFA, etc., folk have TOD bookmarked and read it daily – for real!
So cool Chips. You are the best. Feel the power……..
Bobfr, you are correct. It is a fact. Trust me.HZ
I hope so because they can use some positive reinforcement! This, along with Donna’s mention of TOD to the President, hopefully has them checking in here everyday like we all do. I’ve been so busy these past few days with company in from Canada, and now my own kids home for Christmas so I haven’t had much time to find out what’s going on. So glad for you Chips. You deserve the recognition!!! I totally appreciate you.
Chips, I hope you’ve gotten back up off the floor by now! :)
All’s good again Lovingandlaughing, I’ve got my breath back – when you think about it, Donna Dem seemed more composed during her phone call with the President than I was after my two-word tweet from David Axelrod.
OMG!!!!!! I have the biggest smile on my face for you Chips!!! We are so proud of you!
DITTO!!!! So proud of you, Chips for the good you accomplish!
She corrected it because I posted a comment there detailing Obama’s comments. My comment got deleted but at least she sort of corrected it. You can tell she has already made up her mind what she wants the story to be about regardless of what Obama actually says.
Thank you, Chips, canuck15, and TOD!~
Hi everyone, new post here:
I just saw Jen Psaki on CNN. This is great, she also just started on msnbc, Obama people in the media- is very important.
I was so excited about my two word tweet from David Axelrod, I nearly forgot: new post here!
I think what happened regarding this post is huge and it will be historic. Media be warned: TODers have PBO’s back!
Yes Indeed, lovingandlaughing! And our numbers are growing. Kudos also to the fearless TOD twitters!
