Morning everyone – will catch up properly later today ;-)
Good morning Chips and TOD family,
We live to love and fight another day. Keep the faith.
AMEN TO THAT! GOD BLESS OUR PBO AND STRENGTHEN HIM AS HE FACES THE CHALLENGES FROM THE OBSTRUCTIVE…FILL IN THE BLANKS!——————————————-!!!!! I’M OFF AND RUNNING..FAMILY FLYING IN TOMORROW AND LOTS TO DO! GOD BLESS EVERYONE!
Happy Holidays! Merry Christmas! Seasons Greetings Sue!
The senate is voting on a clean bill for two months, regarding unemployment benefits and taxcuts. But, the bottom line keeps putting on the screen hr 3630, which they are not voting on.
Is it any wonder that our masses are stupid, when even cspan forbids relevant information.
Manchin voted no.
Does that mean that nothing is being cut from the healthcare bill ?
Yes! The only thing that was added, which I think will later be disapproved, is keystone.
And this report on the keystone pipeline needs to be spread far and wide. It will NOT create 20K jobs, not even close. And the jobs will be mostly temporary (up to 2 years) and non-local. Please read page 3 of the report for a summary of findings.
If the Republicans cared about creating jobs, why didn’t they support the American Jobs Act? That would have created alot more jobs than that pipeline.
Because big oil was not onboard!
Maybe the quickest way to get the AJA passed is to add a subsidy to big oil? Since the GOP are willing to add to the deficit for the sake of their precious causes, then put a sweetener in there for big oil, and get the jobs moving.
And TransCanada had 12 pipeline spills last year alone.
Its not going anywhere. Watch this is a fight the GOP must have in a elections season. corporations vs the middle class. This is set up beautifully in favor of dems. They must let Potus lead and stay discipline and follow.
Romney = corporation vs Obama = middle class. Check
Thank you Jovie….I was clueless on that point.
And Manchin votes NO……gawd I cannot stand him.
Trader Manchin!!!!!!! When he was Governor I did have respect for him, not anymore.
He will probably get face time on Morning Junk on Monday.
He already got face time with Alex Witt on MSNBC. He’s such an annoying congress person and a whiner too boot.
It is stunning that both Senators from Alabama voted NO on this…..
The State is bordering on bankruptcy and they don’t want the unemployed in there State be able to survive.
They’re more concerned with making Obama a one-term President. It’s all that matters to them. That idea consumes every waking moment of every Republican politician out there.
Linda, hopefruit2, the Republicans are doing their best to sink the ship ( economy) , just to bring down captain Obama. They don’t give a dam who gets hurt. Just as long as the rich are not on board, of course they must take care of the rich. The rest of us can sink with the ship.
Despite their efforts, thanks to PBO, the economy chugs along!! They will fail.
I think the Republicans may have also made the calculus that people will think if the Republicans won’t work to better the economy because of “Obama” “maybe we’d be better off if we just get rid of Obama (they never say President) an they (Repubicans) will work to help the middle class and the poor. Of course they’re wrong, but…..I wouldn’t be surprised if some people are starting to believe this.
my hope is that every state will help to turn us back to blue, we’ll get nancy smash back and PBO will get 4 more years!!!
That’s a huge concern of mine. Someone on the news, who supports the president, said that we need to be careful with the line that the Republicans are so intransigent because of “Obama.” Be careful because some could think, “well, if we don’t vote for Obama and he loses, maybe the Republicans will do the right thing.” Crazy logic, but I can see it happening.
So great Sabreen60 brought this up. I heard it from an old democrat. She hates “pickering” and said, basically: “well, if they won’t do nothing for the country if Obama is there, maybe it’s best for the country if he just leaves.” It about exploded my head. The thinking is that it is easier to get rid of the one guy than it’s to replace all thos crazy rethugs who won’t play ball with him. So they are giving in to the hostage takers.
Someone needs to explain to her that the things the Republicans want to do will hurt 99% of the population and that the thing to do is vote in people who are willing to do what’s right for everyone and not just the mega rich .
My sister said when President Obama came into office that the GOP playbook is to create such a toxic environment that people will basically do anything, even voting against their own interests, in order to make the pain stop. That’s their playbook. It’s worked in the past, and if people are starting to whisper this again now, then that’s scary. All the more reason to work harder to make people understand that the Republicans will be far worse and more uncontrollable than ever before if they get rewarded for their anti-American actions these past three years by giving them power. They aren’t joking when they talk about their hate, bigotry, anti-women, anti-children, anti-international plans. And if they’re not punished for their actions, then they will be out of control. The stakes are really high – and the President has basically said that this is the time when America needs to decide what it stands for. And the world won’t stand for another Republican-led march into chaos and destruction. It just won’t.
Against this, I would use a very simple argument: ” when a child behaves badly, I don’t reward him, I punish him “.
Woman in Scranton just about yanks PBO’s arm off!!
Damn! Don’t hurt my President!
:). The money quote
Obama eventually loosened her grip and continued on stage, never losing his smile.
I watched the video clip – it’s true. He never stopped smiling :)
Tell Tweety that’s how he “can’t connect” with folks – so much so that they are grabbing him and as Chips said, once you get hold of a good thing you don’t want to let it go!!
Never see people falling over themselves to greet any of the GOP hacks. Also never see any diversity in GOP crowds.
Yes ….I am naughty.
OMG, that was funny. I flinch in horror just remembering those years. Sickening what we went through.
Meta, isn’t that our SS(bald one) that started with POB’s detail. Look closely at the tape. Maybe he is retired since serving for a while. Look closely someone. That is our man that we like.HZ
The only thing Bush/Cheney will be remembered for is the two wars, how they nearly destroyed American and how the rest of the world came to hate them.
At least George W. Bush keeps his mouth shut…..I wish the Cheney’s would follow his lead.
ashamed to say that was me!………….NOT!!!! But it could have been me. How many times have I said that I would do the same thing too?
 that’s a *skrong* little lady!
WASHINGTON — In a major surprise on the politically charged new health care law, the Obama administration said Friday that it would not define a single uniform set of “essential health benefits” that must be provided by insurers for tens of millions of Americans. Instead, it will allow each state to specify the benefits within broad categories.
The move would allow significant variations in benefits from state to state, much like the current differences in state Medicaid programs and the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
By giving states the discretion to specify essential benefits, the Obama administration sought to deflect one of the most powerful arguments made by Republican critics of President Obama’s health care overhaul — that it was imposing a rigid, bureaucrat-controlled health system on Americans and threatening the quality of care. Opponents say that the federal government is forcing a one-size-fits-all standard for health insurance and usurping state authority to regulate the industry
Ha ! PBO punked them all again….
And the poor fools in deep red, poor states, will have shit for health insurance as a result.
Well, then they need to stop voting for Republicans to lead them. At some point, people need to be held accountable for their decisions. Don’t vote, you negate your vote. Vote for Republicans, you get Republican policies – which aren’t good for people, only businesses. Vote Democrat, then force your Congress-person to support progressive, people-based causes and reward them with your loyalty and support. Simple.
I think if the President can only serve two terms, the same should be for House and the Senate. With this bunch of do nothing people, we need to clean the House and work on the Senate. And re-elect President Obama.
A few things that US needs to change seriously, 2nd amendment, 1st amendment (hate speech), life-long supremes and unlimited terms for congress critters.
No – PEOPLE WHO VOTE need to be more informed. I don’t want term limits. I WANT PROFESSIONAL LAWMAKERS, who understand how congress WORKS, knows the LAW, etc….. Just like I want a professional neurologist operating on my brain.
Otherwise we get all those know-nothing teahadists we have now who don’t have a fucking clue what a debt ceiling is, let alone how governement even works.
Term limits are BAD. The PEOPLE WHO VOTE need to own their mistakes, and not pass shirk their responsibilities on who they vote for.
There are some very good people in Congress we’d be very sorry to lose if there were term limits: Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer…..
No one is irreplaceable in this world.
I agree…..term limits is when people get off their butts and VOTE! Auto term limits is for the lazy voter who can’t be bothered to learn about how the government works, what a candidate stands for, do something to make a difference in this world besides complain and understand your candidate is not santa claus that gives you everything you want.
I agree with you. The laws stay on the books for generations, and if people rotate in and out, they’ll never be held accountable for the laws they impose on people. Better to have knowledgeable people and for those people to make better laws.
Anniebella, term limits means a shorter carreer for Joe Biden, a wonderful public servant. Term limits means a shorter carreer for Ted Kennedy, one of the most hard working legislators in the last decades. And speaking of Ted Kennedy, can you just imagine how much he would have helped Barack Obama if he had still been alive?
God, thank you for guarding, guiding and keeping our President and his family during their Christmas holiday and let them always be in the right places at the right time. Thank you for continuing to show them Your strong Love and Favor in Jesus Name, Amen.
Good morning, just got home from my workout. Have a perfect day all.
Amen, Amen, Amen.
vitaminlover, thank you for that prayer for our First Family.
McCain yells at clouds.
Guys, I hope McCain is on blood pressure pills, he is losing it!
Yes he is…
Now coburn is on tv saying he hates the federal government and wants it gone, gone I tell ya!
He is a little late with his comes to Jesus moment….Remember him being called Dr. NO because he held up over 100 pieces of legislation. Reid finally put them all together and jokingly called it the ” Tomnibus Bill ” and got them all passed at once.
Can he quit already, please.
No body is forcing him to remain in the federal government, unless of course he so ignorant that he does not realize that U.S. Senate is part of the federal government.
Cindy McCain needs to put John McCain in a rest home, it was clear in 2008 when he select Palin as his running mate that he was losing it then. Now the old fool is gone for good. Rest home, nursing home, one of those 13 homes they have, any where but the Senate.
I think she changed the locks long ago…….Anyway…what is stopping him from filling those empty food banks..he can afford it….The old coot is sucking every penny in entitlements he can.
Linda, he can’t because his nasty and hateful heart is stuck on trying to help his ole buddies try to make POB a one term president. Plain and simple. McCain is still angry that POB took him on and brought the bacon on home for us. McCain will Never live that defeat down. Never.
Now, he has time to really step up and help and do something with real meaning with his life again for the people and what does he do? He goes on the floor and makes a fool of himself daily trying to stop this President. It is sad when one does not realize when to get off of the stage. Money, you can’t take with you, but one thing for sure that will follow you is a good name, a man of great deeds, and for many, many to remember the hand up that you were responsible for helping those who need it. Not your rich friends. Bottomline.HZ
Good morning all!! Have a great Saturday.
God morning family :) It’s Saturday! Thought you all should read this and see all the poison the Repubs WANTED to stick in the spending bill that never made it in. They are repulsive excuses for human beings. Please take good note of all the things that they wanted GONE, and the types of people that they effect.
[House Republicans] wanted to stop spending on reforms of the financial system and health care, forbid financing on Planned Parenthood and NPR, limit family visits to Cuba and even prevent military chaplains from officiating at legal same-sex marriages. In particular, they wanted to roll back several vital environmental regulations, including limits on particulate matter in the air.
I spoke with a Democratic source familiar with the bill last night, who noted some other “wins” from the omnibus spending bill. Republicans had included riders to prohibit funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the reinstatement of anti-family-planning Mexico City Policy, the termination of the Home Affordable Modification Program, a prohibition on the implementation of net neutrality, and the elimination of funding for Title X family planning programs.
He also notes that what DID survive were some key provisions for Wall St reform.
Benen rightfully points out that though this bill isn’t perfect, he puts the blame squarely where it belongs…..on the screamers that stayed home and allowed the wingnuts to be voted into office! THIS IS WHAT YOU GET!
“wanted to stop spending on reforms of the financial system and health care, forbid financing on Planned Parenthood and NPR, limit family visits to Cuba and even prevent military chaplains from officiating at legal same-sex marriages. In particular, they wanted to roll back several vital environmental regulations, including limits on particulate matter in the air.”
Yep, see those moves create jobs
thx df! interesting artical – sent reid some love and this article.
Good late morning TOD. After watching the President’s weekly address, I am warmed by that resilience in the face of so much meanness and doubt. If folks wonder why we, his supporters, “fawn” over him so to speak, they unfortunately haven’t had the kindness of heart to see his true spirit, and rely instead on manufactured, banal idioms to avoid the reality that Barack Obama is really just a kind, concerned, and dedicated public servant. We carry on with him. Have a blessed day all, and suffer no fools :-D
They are voting on funding for disaster that already happened ? Not on funding for the upcoming year.
Senate passes payroll tax cut and unemployment benefit 2 month extension. I think POTUS was just using the Keystone issue as a diversionary negotiating tool threatening to veto it. So all the hater Repubs were like oh good oh good we now MUST have it in this bill.
“But in a significant concession, Democrats agreed to a provision that would force the administration to make a decision on permitting the Keystone XL oil pipeline within 60 days. He can choose not to permit the project if he determines its not in the national interest.”
I hardly consider that a significant concession but I think he wanted them to think it was.

That’s what Major Garrett said yesterday. Hopefully that is the case.
Major Garrett….the only sane journalist that once worked for Fox…..I remember when he left, he said he took a pay cut.
Senate passes payroll tax cut 89-10 (Makes Manchin look stupid, doesn’t it, especially for so many unemployed in West Virginia).
Forgot the link, but sometimes they don’t work:
I got my eye on Manchin. He’s trying to make a name for himself and to position himself nicely in the Senate for 2013. He needs to be neutralized or he’ll be a bigger pain in the ass than Joe Lieberman.
Seen On Twitter:
Samuel Cook III, MA
I’m a Blue Dog Democrat; Joe Manchin is a Republican who hasn’t changed his Party affiliation yet. #p2 #tlot #1u #ows
Manchin is a spineless so call Democrat. He talk of leadership, where is his? I sent the trader an email last week.
More on how this:
Both sides immediately went into overdrive spinning Friday’s agreement, declaring their side won a significant victory in the final package hammered out by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said the deal was a victory for Obama and the Democrats, despite the fact that president wanted a year-long extension of the payroll cut and opposed the Keystone language.
“We feel that two months from now, we’re in really good shape,” said Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) after Democratic leaders briefed their members on the package. “The leverage they’ve always had [in 2011] is about shutting down the government or not raising the debt ceiling. But now, the fight is on the payroll tax, which is something where we have strength.”
Schumer also said Republicans were pushing means testing for Medicare recipients in order to pay for year-long extension of the payroll cut, which Democrats will use during the 2012 elections as a blunt weapon to pound GOP candidates and incumbents. The two sides had exchanged long-term proposal earlier in the day but could not come to an agreement, leaving them with no choice other than to compromise on a short-term extension.
Sen. Richard Durbin, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate, hinted at the political benefit Obama could reap from continuing to talk about his signature tax cut into next year.

Yeah, I just hope to hear all of these Democrats when Pres.Obama is out fighting.
No shit. But why would they start now? They have the most popular Democratic president in decades and they hide behind their mom’s skirt.

Bracing myself for stupid questions from the peanut gallery.
Hey gotta check Byron tau. gotta call him out on his mess.
Does anyone here follow AngryBlackLady on Twitter? I tried to follow her and I got a message saying that I can’t because she blocked me!! I wonder why she would do that since we share similar views on Twitter.. ! Oh well…life goes on :)
I don’t know. I was blocked by Melanie DNC press secretary. Never said a mean word to her.ever. Don’t think I even said anything to her.
Be careful, some people come on other people’s stream to cause trouble. Strange people get on and do stuff that is not kosher.
Interesting tweet from a good guy on Daily Kos who is an environmentalist. He’s generally not happy with Dem progress on environmental issues.

This is important – lots of good information in the article, including a positive quote from FireDogLake (yes, positive) with regards to Democratic action on this. Once again, the GOP has been outsmarted.
Another handy dandy graph to show the reading impaired :)
Here are the three bills passed–
And last one–
Did you see this disgusting headline over there ?
” Obama makes impassioned plea for support from Jewish audience ”
I guess they had the volume on mute because the thunderous applause hurt their ears.
Speaking of GOPolitico. Wonder what chips did with Julie Mason, hmmmmmm? :) I think Mason might be among the missing. Did she run away, no longer able to take TOD pressure? Is this a Mission Accomplished, for reals? So sorry, Byron Tau, your days are numbered. Start the countdown.
I don’t think she blocked U. It could be twitter acting up again.
Strong piece in Houston Chronicle on [PRESIDENT] OBAMA AND ENERGY. Debunks a lot of myths. Worth a read… http://www.chron.com/opinion/outlook/article/Obama-deserves-credit-for-strong-growth-in-energy-2241647.php Via @davidaxelrod
Dateline ABQ: Pueblo Council endorses [President] Barack Obama… http://bit.ly/siUfzV Via @benlabolt
Don’t ignore tribal clout…
It’s unusual, to say the least, for the All Indian Pueblo Council to endorse a candidate for the presidency so far in advance of the election. But that’s what happened on Thursday, when President Barack Obama’s national campaign manager, Jim Messina, came to Sandia Pueblo to accept the endorsement of all 19 New Mexico pueblos and one pueblo in Texas.
For the tribal leaders, the issue is trust: They believe that Obama has kept his promises to Indian people. Whether in allocating needed funds, consulting with tribal leaders or helping create jobs in Indian Country, the president has listened and responded to their concerns.
It’s not unusual, of course, for Indian leaders to endorse a Democrat. Native Americans are one of the most loyal voting blocs for Democratic candidates — what is different is that this endorsement came before Obama even knows who his opponent will be. “With what the president has done already, I don’t feel it’s early,” said Isleta Pueblo Gov. Frank Lujan, one of the tribal leaders attending Thursday’s ceremony. In fact, Lujan said, speakers at the event said they believe it’s the earliest endorsement ever…

YES.WE.CAN, Again…Obama/Biden 2012!
Sorry, snoop! didn’t see that you had posted this here….we do think alike:) Thanks!
df, no problem…
Like-minded, I agree.
And, you’re welcome! ;)
What time is the First family suppose to arrive in Hawaii?
NEWS FLASH THAT NO ONE IS REPORTING ON:
The BUSH TAX CUTS EXPIRE ON JAN 1.
The extention that was voted on was only President Obama’s Payroll Tax Cut that went into effect on January 1st last year.
So everyone’s taxes will still go up, just not as much if you’re getting a paycheck.
FOR REAL? That’s good news, no wonder the GOP and their 1% minions are so hateful.
December 31st 2012 is last day for bush tax cuts.
Me thinks…you thinks correctly.
damn. want to buy delete post button…… I need to go back to bed.
I thought expire at end of 2012.
oh. poo. Why did I think it was at the end on this year?
I thought they would end at the end of 2012 also.
The latest from Byron – what a guy!
No one in Oahu is worried about the cost. They are much too happy to have the Obamas back home.
Boy, this thing is chock full of myth busters!
But but but cenk uhygur said…
OMG… I peeked at his new show…..It is horrible. It is like a bunch of guys hanging out in a dorm room in the same clothes for days sitting around complaining instead of getting off their butts to make things happen.
I know. This show is just an Hour long rant against the President. Tge hatred runs deep!
Thanks desertflower for sharing this article! As you said, It “is chock full of myth busters!” I immediately shared it with friends and colleagues, some of whom have bought into the meme that President Obama has not done much.
Barack Obama is considerably less popular in New Mexico now than he was in 2008. He won 57% of the vote there, but now has an approval rating under 50% in the state at 49/46. Those represent the poorest numbers we’ve found for him in New Mexico all year: in February he was at 55% approval and in June it was 50%. Obama is upside down with independents at 47/52 and has a lower than normal 72% approval rating with Democrats.
Ignore the polls……they is one out every freaking 5 minutes….
It’s says he wins new Mexico handily, very safe bet he wins there!
Yet they begin their article with a full paragraph on how “unpopular” he is, without putting anything in context. SHeesh!
Just pure propaganda aimed at manipulating people to have doubts about the President. If they wanted to be comparative, they would have published the polls of November-December 2007, one year before the 2008 election, compared to the polls of November-December 2011, one year before 2012 election. Comparing current polls with the actual votes of 2008 is very dishonest. If I remember correctly, in 2008, New Mexico was considered one of the toss-up states, Yet, President Obama won it convincingly, with 57% of the vote. Four years earlier (2004) George W. Bush barely won the state with about 51% of the vote.
And yet he still leads the GOP contenders in this state. Where’s the article on that?
