Tonight at the Kennedy Center:
In the morning, the President will meet with the Council on Jobs and Competitiveness at the White House.
In the afternoon, the President will host King Abdullah II of Jordan.
Later, the President will welcome the World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals to the White House to honor the team and their 2011 World Series victory.
Dang! And I thought for a moment I had a chance…

READY TO GO..!!!
Ready to Go! Thank you for your 24/7 100% enthusiasm for PBO, Rock!
Rock on Rock!!
Must, Must, SEE clip of PBO saluting Betty White tonight on NBC. I almost died ROFLMAO when he asked her to present her long form birth certificate to prove she was 90. He was sooooo cute.
What a sense of humor!
M4Obama thanks for the remainder we will watch it and by the way The Sullivan Interview was just
fantastic I always thought Andrew will support PBO from the get go yes sometimes he critisises PBO
but it’s O.K and I notice people get very upset, we just have to learn to calm down. PBO is going to
get a lot of garbage from the right and the left , we just need to push back. We must concentrate our
work on the graund just like 2008.
He was right on. Something he said disturbed me. He can’t get Obama’s Chicago office to mount enthusiastic defense or even brag as he did. What the hell’s up with that? Some here might have access to top Chicago people, could somebody point that out loud and clear? Missed oportunities like that really piss me off. The election will be close and we can’t afford leave money on the table. I said this and I will say it again, brag, man, brag!
I missed that. Where can I see It?
AN INDICTMENT OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AND THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA
Andrew Sullivan’s Newsweek article and his appearance on Hardball are an indictment of the GOP and the msm media. Just listen to what Mitt Romney said at the beginning of the video. Then listen to what Andrew Sullivan said. Nothing that Romney said is true. It just makes Mitt Romney sound completely out of touch with reality and dishonest. And it shines a light on the MSM who have abdicated their responsibility TO TELL THE TRUTH AND LET THE CHIPS FALL WHERE THEY MAY. Andrew’s article should be the norm not the exception.
From Pew Research Center’s Project For Excellence in Journalism:
1. Journalism’s first obligation is to the truth
Democracy depends on citizens having reliable, accurate facts put in a meaningful context. Journalism does not pursue truth in an absolute or philosophical sense, but it can–and must–pursue it in a practical sense. This “journalistic truth” is a process that begins with the professional discipline of assembling and verifying facts. Then journalists try to convey a fair and reliable account of their meaning, valid for now, subject to further investigation. Journalists should be as transparent as possible about sources and methods so audiences can make their own assessment of the information. Even in a world of expanding voices, accuracy is the foundation upon which everything else is built–context, interpretation, comment, criticism, analysis and debate. The truth, over time, emerges from this forum. As citizens encounter an ever greater flow of data, they have more need–not less–for identifiable sources dedicated to verifying that information and putting it in context.

RT @jaketapper: Romney's refusal to release his tax returns (so far) seems to contradict his "I'm the most electable" argument.— Ben LaBolt (@BenLaBolt) January 16, 2012
Big issue! I hope their is something there!
I’ll be gobsmacked if it’s isn’t completely clean. I’m just glad GOP primary challengers will be the ones to fall into his big “gotcha” trap.
I think it’s the lower tax rate that’s the issue.
Maybe I give him too much credit, but he ran for Mass Gov with his eyes on the Presidency – he’s been running for President for 15 years at least, I have to imagine he knew the taxes would have to be publicized and would have paid higher tax rate as a result.
How far back does the taxes released usually go?
I read that Romney did NOT release his taxes when he was Governor – not confirmed.
He is probably paying less than his secretary. Good fodder!
what’s important is how much her earned and what he’s given to and tax rate.
Unlike you, I think ittens tax records have many stink bombs like taking advantage of all the loopholes, tax haven etc. Whether that will upset LIV’s aka indies is another thing..
I’m pretty sure he has closed all his foreign accounts this year because he seeked the presidency. I would love to see his tax returns of the past few years, not just this one…
I’ll bet that this year he’s asked his accountants to limit the use of deductions so it won’t look so bad. But tricks won’t work. Too many knowledgeable people will scrutinize everything if he releases the documents.
No way to escape, Mr. Romney…
GUESS WHAT? When I tried to retweet the above it said that tapper had BLOCKED me!!! I consider that a badge of honor. I guess I got to him, LOL.
It will be a very big issue, how is it that the Tea/GOP spent months to make PBO to release
his birth certificate? WE the people demand to know about his TAXES Mitt Romney will not
to be trusted.

Seconded. Go isonprize.
Maybe that’s why Joe Biden has been in PA a couple of times recently. Joe is one of Barack Obama’s secret weapons !!
Watched Ed talk about that school district Corbett has refused to fund and teachers are working for free. Isn’t it unconstitutional for Corbett to do this?
I’m with you on that one, isonprize. PA will go blue, although the state will eat your heart out until the moment is coughs up the votes.

yeah, it sux. I will have my revenge someday, somehow.
It’s 5 am here and I am up for the past two hours. Stupid jet-lag and human body clock.

Show us Betty White’s long form of birth certificate, chips. (bangs the desk).
Ok that was pure genius by Andrew Sullivan. I posted it on my facebook.
Anyone have the Betty White video with PBO? It sounds super cute.
See chips ? Popular demand and all that.
Yeah, I’d love to see that!
I tried to find it, but can’t. I guess you will have to wait on the brilliant skills of Ms. Chips or some other clever TOD’er.
Is it in here somewhere? I’m cooking dinner and can’t snoop around
Tally, I notice that “Off their rockers” with Betty White is coming on NBC here in SoCal at 9:30 tonight.
It’s not the “Off Their Rockers” show. That’s her new show about older people pranking young people. Hilarious, I might add. The clip of PBO was on her birthday special that came on before this show.
I just watched the PBO skit for Betty Whites BD….so cute. Betty blow him kisses.
Tonight’s overview: numbers coming out of California OFA are phenomenal!! We are going to be a force to be reckoned with!!

California will be very important in flipping the House as well. Along with mobilizing in Nevada to get out that vote for the Prez (and Shelley Berkley as a great side effect).
Santorum may indeed have won the Iowa caucus. If that is true then Romney will not be the first ever to win both Iowa and New Hampshire.
Well, it seems like Mittens may not have won Iowa. From TPM:
Rick Santorum may have won Iowa and in ongoing counting holds an 80 vote lead over Mitt Romney, Byron York reports:
The final numbers will be different from those released on caucus night. One campaign source says the vote count as of midday Monday showed Santorum ahead by 80-something votes. If that number holds through certification of the last precincts, Santorum will win. Of course, there is always the possibility that some of the final precincts will contain discrepancies that put Romney back on top. It’s just not clear.

No idea why the MEDIA is silent on this. Other than the obvious, being paid by the GOP who OWNS THEM.
They are probably waiting for certification? Still I agree with you that the media is protecting Romney.
Santorum should make this an issue before the primary.
Oh you can be sure of that.
In other words, there’s always the possibility that just the right number of Romney votes are stuffed in hall closets in just the right precincts to put Romney ahead of whatever Santorum gets.

As if we didn’t know they are all in the gutter, there’s yet ANOTHER debate…in case people didn’t understand BACKWARDS the first 1 million times!
Child, don’t watch that mess. Watch the Australlian Open or something.
All those young, hot-looking men running around in shorts, muscles ripping. What beats that?
what, only men ? No wimmin ?
Okay, yeh woman too… what-everrrr!
Come on, men and oomph is an oxymoron.
I always did like a little oomph with my oooooo!
Romney’s tie is so ugly…he loves that dumb blue tie with white dots, or whatever those things are. I can’t believe the rousing applause this empty suit got just not. Can’t stand him.
Now Rick Perry is talking. He brought up the income tax issue.
Got a big applause for calling for Romney to put out his tax records. Surprised.
What venue are they holding this debate in? The place is huge…damn. And now Romney is asking for more time…it’s not “Anderson!!!!,” right now, it’s “Brett!!!!! I need more time!!!!”
He didn’t answer the issue of releasing his tax records.
Robney gets Bain Capitol questions, he is on defense!
Now Robney says he created 120k jobs.
Oh fergawdsaaaakes, this guy has been treated like a cream puff. Or I guess I should say, pate a choux.
They have been gotten too. Lots of big money behind him, he has promised wall street Everything.
Romney is the biggest LIAR and FRAUD out there. I dislike this guy even more than Bachman or Perry.
I hate him too. I hate him in a different way than I hate Bachmann and Perry. They’ve proven to be harmless in their b.s. Romney, on the other hand, is dangerous because he’s got big money on his side and a useless media to carry his lies.
exactly. hope the american voters don’t prove to be dumb… yet again.
YOU ARE EXACTLY RIGHT…I REALLY LOATHE MITT ROMNEY…HE IS A LIAR AND FEELS HE HAS A RIGHT TO THE WHITEHOUSE JUST BECAUSE!!!! HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN PREVILEGED AND HAS NO INSIGHT AS TO WHAT EVERY DAY AMERICANS FEEL OR WHAT THEIR REAL NEEDS ARE…HE IS REALLY OUGHT OF TOUCH.

On hand to say happy birthday during the taping of the Betty White 90th Birthday Special, Ms. White’s Mary Tyler Moore Show co-star, Valerie Harper was asked by an interviewer if she had a new years resolution for 2012 (starts at 1:27 in this video):
“Yes! I wanna do all I can to support our President. I’m so sick of the criticism of him. And then I turn to people and say “What did you do in terms of the 2010… , did you even vote?… to have a congress that he could work with instead of people with this idealogy that is so… I’m sorry I feel that a lot of it is race-based…and he is brilliant… And people say well, he’s made a lot of mistakes… He’s a human being, he’s gonna make mistakes. I just want us to be the wind in his sails. He’s not a king, he has to deal with those judges, and he has to deal with congress. So my resolution is to move the ball down the field for all Americans to have a better shot. And I do think that’s in our President’s heart and he needs more support behind him to get that done. That’s a resolution.”

I don’t think I’ve mentioned recently…I hate Romney.
I hate Romney to the nth power. I always have to ask for forgiveness because I know we are not suppose to hate, but I just can’t help it with this flipflopping liar. As a matter of fact, lying is one of my biggest petpeeves. How could any democrat vote for the likes of this piece of crap.
Darn, I was watching that Betty White special but turned it off before the segment with our President. I hope someone posts a clip ASAP.

Wow! He went there. Like it’s the Presidents fault?
Thank you so very much, Chips, for posting “Wintertime Soldiers.” That was so moving, and so reminds us of how we came to be, who we can become by gladly accepting & carrying that baton. Summertime is easy, wintertime challenges the strength of ones backbone. I know that all the wonderful TODers don’t have cookie-crumble in the marrow, and that’s why I love TOD and such informative comments. Virtual Batons! Bless!
I actually feel bad for Juan Williams. They got him doing all the hard race-baiting stuff, and the crowd is going wild!!! Black folks are too sensitive, dontcha know???
Don’t feel bad for Juan Williams vero804, that’s the cesspool that he swims in. He sits up there on fox-news every Sunday and let the host and guest of that show disrespect him, and he does nothing but smile. And tonight he sits up there and lets Gringrich disrespect black people without so much as a peep.
I know…he has been lying with dogs. Still, he was given quite a tough line of Qs to ask tonight and the crowd was really negative. I hate all Republicans right now.
When the Tuskeegee Airmen flew, and the people of Montgomery boycotted the buses, do you think they foresaw that what they were doing would make it easier for people like Juan Williams to pull down huge salaries to basically try and undo everything they fought for. Free country and all, but I just shake my head.
Fret not Liberal. They had “Uncle Toms and Tomisas” back then too.

That should say “hang out in ghettos…”
She is not racist? No not at all!
Tell Ariana to go hang out in the Ghetto?
We have definitely stepped in a time warp, back to attacking Michelle. Whatever HuffPuff I hear the dogwhistles all over that piece. “Indifferent to poverty” = uppity. The nerve of that woman to say MO needs to go to the ghetto when she probably wrote that crap from a yacht.
Arianna is increasingly irrelevant and dismissed so what better way to garner attention than to attach her name to FLOTUS, now that Mrs. O is “hot” on Twitter and elsewhere?
I have some words. Arianna KMA all up in the pink parts!
ROFL!! You sure do have a way with words, yardarm!!
Bush tax cuts helped the rich get richer
By Editorial Board, Monday, January 16, 7:35 PM
WHILE FEW QUESTION the fact that income inequality has risen in the United States over the past three decades, there is plenty of dispute about why. Some argue that the upward shift in after-tax income reflects a high-tech society’s increasing rewards to highly skilled workers, or the rise of super-paid “superstars” in everything from finance to sports, or the decline of labor unions and the minimum wage.
Another concern is that the lighter federal taxation of capital gains and other investment income relative to ordinary income has skewed income distribution upward. This is related to the so-called “Buffett Rule,” whereby the Omaha billionaire (and former Washington Post Co. board member) Warren Buffett pays income tax at a lower effective rate than his secretary does, largely because so much of his income comes from investments.

I’m curious which one of these poster concepts people are favoring the most. Last time I was way off, none of the posters I liked made it to the final three: http://charlottein2012.com/poster/ I like Baxton, India and Jennifer this time.
I like Tom, Baxton & Jennifer. Glad we agree on 2. I usually like the ones that no one else likes.
All of them are great, but I think I’m leaning toward Andre, Tom, and Baxton.
I like steve, anna and india best. Quite talented all of the them. All the best!
That ass Lawry has Jodi Kantor on his show….but it looks like he’s defending Miche’s quote about being an “angry black woman.”——why is she still getting interviews?! She’s such a liar, she says in the book she tried to answer questions voters are wondering about going into this upcoming election.
Kantor is a Romney supporter. Check her Twitter page and the first image is one of Romney and his wife (with a complimentary caption).
No surprise. Not after she burned her bridges with This White House………she’s an asswipe.
Newt just kilt Romney.
LOL what do you mean Newt just kilt Romney? What happened
So to summarize…one of the moderators asked Newt about a Romney SuperPac that said Newt voted for a pro choice bill sponsored by Nancy Pelosi, short answer Newt said no.
But the real kicker was that Newt said that Romney keeps saying he does not know anything about the Super Pac….even though the Superpacs are run by former Romney people….Newt said if Gov Romney can’t control a Superpac run by friends, imagine how he would control the federal government?
**** deleted ****
Chips: Jovie, I’m deleting RW propaganda like this (Solyndra shit in this case) from now on, please play by the blog rules, otherwise we say goodbye.
Whatever. Most people don’t know what Solyndra is.
Where I live in Central VA I wake up to attack ads about Solyndra all of the time since this became a story. It’ll be one of the few things the opposition will use…I don’t think it will have a huge impact, but we’ll be hearing about it frequently.
Who cares…solyndra sounds like purified water. Yawn.
She says that Malia and Sasha went home in “defeat” the first time they tried to trick or treat. I can’t f-ing stand Lawrence. He basically defended her book, talking about how though Jodi didn’t talk to the Obama’s for the book–she basically went through the normal chanels ie: talking to aids and friends, much like when Woodward wrote some book about Cheney. She lied and said she’s interviewed the Obama’s several times. F-ing liar! So basically, Lawrence invited her to the show to give her cover. These fucking media whores, always sticking up for each other. Disgusting bastards.
#82 Baby and only 10 days since it came out.
It’s now #85 and 45% off.
From the looks of it, she did seem to have more cooperation from people close to the Obamas than she should have.
vero804, I don’t like that, but you better believe it won’t happen again.
But that still don’t mean that Kantor couldn’t have hear a story and made a mountain out of a mo- hill.
I’m pretty confident it won’t happen again. And yes, she took little stories and most definitely made them bigger and more gossipy than they were.
lisa,If you are not please, send Lawrence a email. That is what I plan to do. I sent Jonathan Alter a email when he was on Ed last week and said what he said, Alter received the email because I heard from him.
Just breathe, LLO. Grifters will support fellow grifters, and right now I see all of the media as a bunch of grifters ginning up controversy to drive eyeballs to their advertisers. If you want real news — and I’m not saying ignore the US MSM — go here: http://www.rentadrone.tv/bbc-world/ You’ll be much saner for it.
Can I say Fox is doing a bang up job on the questions?
I liked the posters with the Coming Together theme. I can’t even remember the names now, but I voted for that theme. I think that theme is important and needs to get all over.

I gotta say- Really? Fucking speed boats?
I’d normally be concerned about all of that, but with President Obama in the WH, I feel confident that he will not let the war drums move him toward starting or joining a military conflict with Iran.
That’s the fucking Iranian navy. A bunch of speedboats. Maybe a couple of outdated submarines that our navy could blow out of the water without blinking an eye.
that’s what they have…
My Lawd…do these people feel ashamed? A black reporter on FOX News just said after the debate
“Like they say in my hood……it’s on like Donkey Kong”
I mean really….How much do they pay the minority reporters to play the stereotype?
Oh Jesus. I just… whatever. I just gave an extra $10 to OFA in honor of the GOP clown debate.
OMG, I am going under my table squirming and ashamed of this comment.
That’s so last century, Urkel.
Has anyone posted this hilarious new Colbert ad which ran in S.C. tonight during the debate? Colbert—-doing all the heavy lifting. MSM starting to awaken, rub their eyes. Colbert is dragging them out of their bunkers:
LOL. Colbert, I mean Cain is hilarious!
LOL! He is the best!
Did you check PBO doing the “Baptist Bounce”? lol
Where? Video please?
Man, Newt whipped Robney tonight. Say what you want about Gingrich, he knows how to throw a punch and make a concise point.
What happened? What did Newt say?
On all issues, Newt did better than Robney.
evening TOD – I need some help if you please. So, I was entering data tonight at the OFA office and one of the young guys gets a person on the phone who is sort of ambivalent about PBO because she sites “monsanto”. We got to talking about it and I looked it up a little bit but I’m kind of like – what’s a good counter or talking point that I could steer the conversation away from that? Anybody? thanks
Monsanto seems to me to be one of PBO’s blind spots. He could not have won the Iowa caucuses in 2008 w/o Tom Vilsack. Tom Vilsack is all about Monsanto. He is the one person on the Cabinet that I dislike intensely. That’s one of those things that is just pure politics. Hate to say it, a4alice, but there’s no way to speak well about this. Take the hit for the team. Ask the person what they would like to see done about it and encourage them to write to the President and get their friends to write to the President. Get people to put up a petition on whitehouse.gov and try to get enough signatures to bring attention to the problem.
I don’t know, alice…I saw your question earlier, and thought someone more knowledgeable about this would respond. She was talking about genetically engineered corn or something? What was her issue with Monsanto? And if you think about that….its nuts on its face.Does she actually think that voting for ANYONE ELSE is going to address her issues, care WHAT she says, or won’t double down on whatever it is that is bothering her now? CORPORATIONS ARE PEOPLE, MY FRIEND!!! Ask her if Romney makes her feel better! And ten ask her to write into the WH with her concerns.
I don’t mean to be flip, but these things make me nuts. One issue, and ignore EVERYTHING ELSE???? WTH?!
thanks guys for answering my question – I was kind of at a loss. DF we drew the same conclusion. Of course right away I have George Clooney in the back of my head saying “I’m disappointed with democrats that are disapointed with PBO” I myself have a short fuse with people that are on the fence or can’t make up their damn minds. But of course. I can’t really say that there. But Tien I think that is probably the best course. Put it back to them “what would they like to see done” encourage them to act and get them re-involved.
thank you very much.
You’re welcome, sweetie. I love everything you do.
I just saw this fascinating article about a visit Dr. King made to Grosse Point (an extremely rich enclave outside Detroit) just days before he was shot. I had not known about this before.
Listen…I know we had our issues with the Hilary folks in 08…but no doubt about it, Senator Obama grew into President Obama as a result of Hillary and the Clinton machine (I think the prez would even agree on this point). I say this to say that Romney is by far the most unprepared candidate to EVER get (let’s be honest—it’s over) the nomination. Ron Paul had to correct him on the difference between Al Qaeda and the Taliban, he is unbelievable thin skinned…and his knowledge is about a mile wide and an inch deep. Newt may be a BS artist extraordinaire but he knows history (whether that history is factual or not is beside the point ).
Hell, even Halperin gave Newt an A and Romney a B.
He’s at least as unprepared as GWB was in 2000. Bush set a pretty high bar for cluelessness.
A High low bar I think in a few weeks when Romney has won SC/FL….people will start saying he bought the nomination. Which will dovetail nicely into the Bain Capital issue, Romney not releasing his taxes, corporations are people, I like to fire people (who are not corporations), etc. etc.
I don’t think it’s accurate to say “senator Obama grew into president Obama as a result of…….the Clinton machine.” —- I think you meant to say his debating skills got better after spending time during the campaign fending off the nasty shit the Clinton’s were throwing at him. What makes president Obama president Obama, has nothing to do with the Clinton’s. The seeds of great men are sown long before the storm and turbulence. The Clinton’s showed a nastiness no one expected, but that he surpassed and overcame. I give Hillary and her horrible husband no credit for making President Obama who he is.
While I get where you are coming from, my point is that people saw Senator Obama take on Senator Clinton and the Clinton machine…mano e mano. No backing down, whether it was the debates or fighting clean or dirty if needed- they did it. For some people, like my father, he said that by Senator Obama not backing down from the Clintons he knew he could wither the Republican onslaught during the General Election. I am in no way taking anything away from Senator and/or President Obama. All I am saying that the entire process made Barack Obama better and allowed some people to gain confidence that he was ready. Again, I get where you are coming from…I just have a different opinion.
Well night guys!
Watching BBC World right now. A special place in Hell has been reserved for Bashar Al-Assad.
Right next to Saddam and OBL.
The arc of the moral universe is long but it bends towards justice.
A totally irreverent thought just occurred to me. I just thought what would Cheney’s reaction be if he found himself next to these two? Yeah! Yeah! My mind sometimes goes off on weird tangents.
Yes, and he already has lots of company there. He needs to go, and be tried for crimes against his people/country.
400 children have been killed since the uprising began. 400. And Al-Assad has the shamelessness to blame “criminal gangs”, saying that his troops don’t target civilians.
OMG! That Betty White cameo just killed me. Killed me.
Any video of this yet? I love Betty White! Who doesn’t!!!
More book lady on TDS. Shouldn’t that be a wrap? It seems they have all obliged. Obama gossip? Come on down!
The Daily Show—-Jon Stewart. He just gave her the softball treatment, t’was a love fest. It was icky.
A bunch of young people watch that show. They aren’t gonna buy that book.—- not that they don’t read, but if we are gonna buy a book, it’s either a book for school or a fun book, not gossipy drivel filled with lies.
I don’t watch Jon Stewart, never had, never will, what he thinks doesn’t matter to me one bit. Of course if he dislike Obama he was going to eat that Kantor woman B.S. up.
Another disgusting episode of the GOP Hate Debate!
I cannot wait for President Obama State of the Union to counter the madness.
What i the date of the SOU? I forgot.
I meant “is”. My “s” key on my computer is not working well.
Jan 24, next Tuesday. I’ll be at Shakey’s!
A little tidbit from Andrew Sullivan live blogging of the debate tonight:
11.05 pm. Frank Luntz just gave us the quote of the night, as explosions – fireworks? – boom around the convention center. “It sounds like Fort Sumter out there.”
It sure did. All night.
10.58 pm. I’m not sure what to say about this evening, except I want to take a shower. I’ve rarely been repulsed by the atmosphere of a debate as I was tonight. But this is the Republican core of South Carolina. One of the biggest applause lines was about waging war on the federal government. I suspect that if any Latinos or African-Americans were watching this, Obama’s support just jumped.
From my perspective, Romney was cringe-inducing, shudder-worthy, and plastic beyond measure. I suspect he’s going to try and rig this year’s tax returns to hide his far lower rate of taxation and far, far, far higher income than 99.999 percent of the population. It was a weak answer.
I did not watch, proud to say I have not wasted one tiny minute on any of their horrible hate-fests. But it sounds like it was really ugly, vomit-inducing.
Elizabeth Warren Money Bomb Pulls In Over $100,000 In First Weekend
First Posted: 1/16/12 09:33 AM ET| Updated: 1/16/12 08:29 PM ET
WASHINGTON — Elizabeth Warren’s money bomb has pulled in pledges of more than $100,000 in the course of a weekend, according to the campaign, with four days left until the Senate candidate’s first attempt to raise an explosive amount of money with a one-day haul from small donors. “We already have pledges for more than $100,000 for our first ever money bomb this Thursday,” campaign manager Mindy Myers told HuffPost, “but we have a long way to go to narrow the gap with Brown’s $12.8 million war chest.”
The total is a combination of pledges made at ElizabethWarrenMoneyBomb.com and others that have yet to be reflected on her site.
That’s actually a pretty crummy number. Embarrassing actually. Hopefully folks are waiting until the actual day – the 19th – to donate. Anything less than $1M would be bad news for her.
$100,000 in ONE weekend is embarrassing?? I know you like to put a negative spin on most Dem-related news, saintroscoe, but this is getting ridiculous. Truly.
It is. We’re talking about a major candidate here who raised 5.7M last quarter – moneybombs for high profile candidates bring in millions. But hey, I’m just being negative again. I always put negative spin on Dem related news. You want to treat 100,000 as some glowing, shiny happy people holding hands success, hey – it’s your place.
I guess this is goodbye. So be it. Ridiculousness is in the eye of the beholder.
The goodbye is entirely up to you, saintroscoe. If that’s your choice, I wish you well.
Last week you raised GOP talking points to downplay PBO’s fundraising total – but, but, but ‘he’ll never reach a billion’.
Who in the Obama campaign ever claimed he would raise a billion?
So, you allowed yourself to be sucked in by MSM bull to downplay what was decidedly good news.
To dismiss Elizabeth Warren’s $100,000 ‘money bomb’ on a single weekend as “embarrassing” …. well, that’s something I’d expect to hear from the Scott Brown campaign. You know what she’s up against here, surely?
Is it enough to keep up with Brown’s $$ backing? Of course not. But if you want to sneer at it as “glowing, shiny people holding hands”, then go right ahead. It simply shows you have no clue what Elizabeth Warren is up against.
Maybe you should support her a little more, rather than ridiculing her efforts as “embarrassing’?
Just a “shiny people holding hands” thought.
And when you have the time, watch and listen to this shiny person holding hands with the rest of us:
I second this Chips. This blog is for PRO Obama and PRO Democratic news. I recall last summer when the negativity got so bad, I felt this blog had become a mirror image of HuffyFluffy. And saintroscoe’s continued concern trolling over Jon Huntsman as being “the most dangerous” has struck my last nerve. I told saintroscoe that Huntsman was a snake not to be concerned over, and I was vindicated when Huntsman dropped out and endorsed Willard. We don’t need the concern trolling here, and this post from saintroscoe saying it was “embarrasing” for Warren for raising $100,000 reeks of emoprog/concern trolling and I have had enough of it.
I have no clue whether saintroscoe will be back, that’s up to him/her.
Unlike some here before, I have absolutely no doubt that s/he is a genuine supporter of PBO.
And I always enjoy, hugely, reading saintroscoe’s take on what’s happening politically, s/he is smart and evidently highly informed.
I’ll be disappointed if s/he leaves, but that’s entirely up to him/her.
Yes, I could do without the constant negative spin on evidently encouraging news, but not all of us have a hopeful outlook on things.
Such is life.
Funny thing about this all is I don’t remember anything about what you wrote here earlier today let alone last summer. That’s how much I care about what you think,
Ah, charming, saintroscoe. I actually remember everything you wrote here because it was all monotonously similar: “Yeah, this might seem like good news, but, actually, it’s terrible for Obama.”
It’s not too long ago that you reliably informed us that Huntsman could beat PBO…….
Saintroscoe, I have to go sleep now, if you choose to reply I’ll see you in the morning.
So now suffering convienent memory loss? It wasn’t even a week ago you were freaking out over Jon Huntsman and repeating the MSM talking points about him being able to sway independents. Then Huntsman drops out, and you end up pulling a Willard and say that he was no threat because he kissed Willard’s ass. The more posts you’ve made as of late, the more you sound like yet another former poster, amkforobama, who also got caught in the MSM hype.
If this is your last post, I wish you well. But truth be told, we could do less with the concern trolling from the likes of you. If you want to concern troll, there are places for it, i.e. HuffyFluffy and DailyKos. But this is a Pro Obama/Pro Democrat blog, and Chips and others like myself are making no bones about it either.
Damn. I’m gonna donate to her and I live in Florida. Wish my Senator (Nelson) had her passion. Can I just say Scott Brown is plucked. Martha Coakley lost more than Scott Brown won.
Since I grew up in MA and my 95 year old mom and brother (both die-hard GOP) still live there I donate every month and more to Elizabeth for MA. She is such a fierce advocate for the middle class & those trying to enter the middle class (there should be an acronym for that: MC&TTTETMC!) that we all have a stake in her success.
Riiight. I mentioned last week that if it wasn’t released on the Thursday, it would mean it would be bad news. And it was released on the Thursday. I wasn’t sucked in by anything – the fact of the matter is that $1B is out there, and was concern enough to Jim Messina to rebut it. It doesn’t matter if the campaign said it or not if it’s a prevailing thought that is passed around every time Pres. Obama’s fundraising numbers are brought up – it’s something they’re facing.
Funny that you mention I should support Elizabeth Warren more, as I’m one of the few that even bother to bring her up here – I understand though, because it’s an Obama blog. But I have no clue about what she is facing – or maybe I have a clue to understand $100,000 over a weekend isn’t something to brag about as a campaign in Massachusetts when Scott Brown has a $12M war chest.
I’m glad this is finally all out in the open. I had a feeling your “house rules” posts the last week or so was – in part – in my direction. I just wish you would have just banned me and saved us both the hassle.
So it’s not entirely up to me – you’ve made your feelings perfectly clear. I’m sure you just made the day of a lot of folks here anyways
“Funny that you mention I should support Elizabeth Warren more, as I’m one of the few that even bother to bring her up here – I understand though, because it’s an Obama blog.”
Well, that says it all really, doesn’t it?
Yep, saintroscoe, there’s really no deceit or mystery: it’s called The Obama Diary, after all.
PS Way more people than you have brought up Warren, maybe you just never got around to reading their comments?
Relax SR. Take a time out.
Aye Chips. Mind yer helm and keep your course and speed steady. The vessel still has it’s integrity.
Aye Aye Captain
Don’t forget that Obama will also help with the fundraising as well. And there may be some Democratic Super Pacs. I know that we want to take the money out of politics, but we can’t unilaterally disarm in the face of craziness.
Amen……….what took you so long? I asked him last week to cautiously check the ‘how’ of relaying his comments, but to no avail.
The Triggers of Economic Inequality
By Troy Oxford and Lauren Feeney| January 15, 2012
In recent years, the rich have seen their wealth grow dramatically while the poor and middle class have basically flatlined. It’s no accident, argue Jacob Hacker and Paul Pierson in their book Winner-Take-All Politics. The infographic below, which draws from Hacker and Pierson’s book, explains how our politicians — on both sides of the isle — fell under the spell of corporate dollars and re-engineered our economic system to favor the wealthy. The dark green line shows the income trajectory for the top 1 percent since 1970, while the light green line shows the bottom 90 percent. Click the orange triangles to learn about critical turning points that helped create the skewed system we have today.

OFA group report from the arctic west (could someone please turn up the heat?) We participated in local MLK activities today, collected a nice handful of “I’m In” cards and tried to lend a hand during a service activity, we were turned away because so MANY people showed up they didn’t need any more volunteers. Tonight we had a phone bank, which resulted in just under ninety positive conversations with voters. We played and replayed the Lift Every Voice and Sing video for inspiration, it inspired and caused quite a few teary eyes. Happy MLK day everyone.
Sounds like you had a great day! Thanks for sharing:)
We did have a great day, the best part of it was the staggering number of people working on volunteer projects all across the city, helps to restore your faith in the human race.
Obama Elevates Small Business Administration To Cabinet-Level Position |
By Alex Seitz-Wald on Jan 13, 2012 at 2:20 pm
President Obama announced today that he will elevate the U.S. Small Business Administration to a cabinet-level position in an effort to boost small businesses and streamline the government. The move is part of Obama’s effort to combine combine six government offices into a single, streamlined agency. The SBA promotion is effective immediately, as Obama used his executive authority to make the change, while the larger effort will need approval from Congress.
GOP Debate Audience Applauds Perry’s Call For Romney To Release Tax Returns
By Alex Seitz-Wald on Jan 16, 2012 at 9:38 pm
GOP presidential front-runner Mitt Romney has so far refused to release his income tax returns, as is customary for presidential candidates of both parties. Rommey said that he has no plans to do so, even if he wins the nomination.
During tonight’s Fox News debate in South Carolina, Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) reiterated his call for Romney to release his tax returns, eliciting a boisterous applause from the audience. “Mitt, we need for you to release your income tax so the people of this country can see how you made your money,” Perry said. “We cannot fire out nominee in September, we need to know now.”

American Automakers Plan To Hire Thousands Of Workers In 2012 |
By Travis Waldron on Jan 13, 2012 at 1:05 pm
American automakers plan to hire thousands of workers in 2012 as sales continue to rebound, yet another sign that President Obama’s rescue of the auto industry has been successful. Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler announced that they would add a total of 6,000 factory workers in Michigan, Kentucky, and Illinois, and total payrolls at American auto plants could reach 650,000 this year. Two years after the auto industry rescue, American car companies gained market share for the first time in two decades, and analysts expect the third consecutive year of gains in the industry. With economic uncertainty plaguing Europe and parts of Asia, meanwhile, the U.S. has become a safe haven for foreign car companies as well — German and Japanese companies are both planning to hire more American workers.
On MLK Day, Santorum Criticizes Romney For Undermining Voting Rights
By Faiz Shakir on Jan 16, 2012 at 10:10 pm
A Romney-affiliated Super PAC is currently airing an attack ad in South Carolina which falsely suggests that Rick Santorum supports allowing felons in prison to vote. Tonight, Santorum confronted Romney about the ad, stating that his record and his view that felons who have served their time and completed their probation and parole should have their right to vote restored. Santorum then pressed Romney whether he also believes people who have served their time should be allowed to vote, explaining the importance of the issue:
Romney tried to dodge the issue, finally stating, “I don’t think people who have committed violent crimes should be allowed to vote again.” Santorum pushed back, correctly noting that while Romney was governor of Massachusetts, the state employed a policy of allowing violent felons to vote not only after they completed their sentence but also while they were on probation.

See, Colbert can’t get on the ballot because of a technicality—-he’s 2 1/2 months late for filing —–and S.C. doesn’t allow write-ins. BUT Cain’s name is on the ballot, and any and all can vote in the Repub primary—-Dems, independents, college students—–and so Colbert is asking those who are interested in his candidacy——-and all the truths he’s bringing to light——to vote for Cain/Colbert.
Isn’t he funny?

LOL, what the hell was that?? Seriously. What was it. Was this recent? Because that’s a ridiculously old picture of I-cube.
I think so…i believe it came on before tonight’s debate. I don’t know the context (got it off a website)…but I found it utterly fascinating. Who knew Bill O knew his rappers? And bernie was so adamant it was Ice T…
okay, ( Not that that makes Bill O “down with the brothers” ) Was there any point to it? In what context was it shown. I’m so tired of the “rappers, food stamps and welfare” description of black people. sigh….
Is there ever a point to Bill O’s blatherings? LOL…No, earlier I posted a comment a black reporter on FOX made. She said that back in her hood…they would have characterized the debate as “being on like Donkey Kong”. Let’s put aside the fact that no one has used that kind of language in 2 decades…but the only hood this lady ever saw was Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood. To me, FOX is just so far removed from the reality of black people its not even funny. As with this clip….it seems their only knowledge of black people comes from BET,
