“for my prize I want mankini and a POTUS w/ FLOTUS pic”

JojoRaze – I knew I couldn’t be the only one who truly appreciates the art that is “Mankini” .

Whoever created the “Mankini” deserves to be right up there with Leonardo Da Vinci when he created the Mona Lisa. Her mysterious look is similar to the mysterious twinkle of Newt’s Tiffany diamond.

        Hah!

Mankini makes me laugh every time. It is a badly photo-shopped pic but it just warms the cockles of my heart. So, no, you are not alone in the Newt Mankini Appreciation Club. And of course FLOTUS and POTUS together is heartwarming and romantic ever ytime. I love how FLOTUS plays hard-to-get when POTUS flirts with her in public.

Chris Dodd went on Fox to bad mouth the President over SOPA…..

WASHINGTON — Hell hath no fury like a lobbyist scorned. Former Democratic senator and current head of the Motion Picture Association of America Chris Dodd threatened to cut off campaign contributions from Hollywood to the reelection campaign of President Barack Obama.

In an interview with Fox News about the White House’s recent statement on controversial anti-piracy legislation, Dodd said:

Candidly, those who count on quote ‘Hollywood’ for support need to understand that this industry is watching very carefully who’s going to stand up for them when their job is at stake … Don’t ask me to write a check for you when you think your job is at risk and then don’t pay any attention to me when my job is at stake.” … I would caution people don’t make the assumption that because the quote ‘Hollywood community’ has been historically supportive of Democrats, which they have, don’t make the false assumptions this year that because we did it in years past, we will do it this year … These issues before us — this is the only issue that goes right to the heart of this industry.”

Other than Dodd-Frank, what meaningful accomplishments did Chris Dodd have? Good riddance, we don’t need Democrats like him. he should join the emoleft with the likes of Greenwald, Hamsher, Uygar, Olberloon.

What the MPAA, RIAA, and entertainment mega-conglomerates fail to understand is that they’ve already lost. There will always be an audience that’s willing to pay for their products. But there’s also an audience that isn’t, AND NEVER WOULD. They’re assuming that if they cut off the free files, those users will shrug their shoulders and pony up. They won’t. If it’s not free, they don’t want it. And moreover, if it’s not free at first, they’ll find ways to make it free. The only way to prevent that is by shutting down the Internet — and I mean SHUT IT DOWN. Do away with it. Otherwise, they’re like King Canute ordering the tide to not rise, without Canute’s self-awareness at the end of the legend. All they’re doing, really, is alerting people to the fact that, hey, I can download “Twilight” for FREE. How cool is that?

        • January 19, 2012 at 7:41 pm

          but i understand….his point….

it is stealing….and why is that ok….it is like folks who buy stolen “hot” goods…

          • January 19, 2012 at 7:51 pm

I have no problem with enforcing copyrights. I just think this legislation takes a hammer to something that needs a scalpel. And the only way to do away with piracy is to turn the Internet into something unrecognizable. I don’t particularly want to give up the Internet for the interests of the conglomerates, who will do well with or without piracy.

I saw an interview with Mick Jagger some months ago, and he said something very interesting. He stated that in the history of recorded music, he was part of the only generation of recording artists which made most of its money from recordings. It was a small window, and with the advent of the mp3 and file sharing, that window closed, and artists would have to go back to being performers — and performing a lot — in order to earn their livings. The Internet has changed the way we view entertainment and news. When News Corp put the Times of London and WSJ articles — at least some of them — behind pay walls, how many people rushed out to get subscriptions? Very few, I’d wager. With the Internet, people have become accustomed to entertainment and information for free or nearly so. The future economics of this are only beginning to be sorted out. The corporations and their lobbyists are fighting the last war.

(Okay, I’ll stop now. I’ve been reading up too much on the Venus Project today.)

          • 36 JojoRaze
            January 19, 2012 at 8:08 pm

It is stealing but the fact is a big reason why revenue is down is that Hollywood and the music industry puts out crap now. Everyone looks the same in movies and music…I can barely tell Scarlett Johansen, Isla Fisher, Elizabeth Banks, and co apart because they are all blond and size zeroes. I can’t tell the difference between Rihanna, Katy Perry, Pink etc and all the other Auto-Tuned crap on the radio. There is no freshness or originality in film or music anymore. I do not illegally download anything and never have since I’m a Christian and I think it’s stealing. While I buy music, I do so rarely. Most of my gospel music is from 2000 or below that I bought on CDs. But I have mp3s that I bought from Amazon and Rhapsody, and downloaded for free legally through my public library through Freegal. You get 3 free downloads per week through Freegal via your public library barcode number. I listen to stuff on YouTube and if it’s interesting I buy it for my own personal use or download through Freegal. But most of this stuff I get is pre-Internet. When people steal, they aren’t saying I don’t want to pay, they are saying I don’t value the quality of your work enough to pay for it.

The music and film industry need to make interesting things again that people are willing to buy, or shut up. ITunes sells music and other stuff because it is easy to use and interesting. This is not just a moral issue, but a quality issue. How many talentless people out there are making records and are in movies? Loads How many craptastic reality shows are on TV? Boatloads? The last show I watched regularly and supported was House, and that was three years ago when it change. And second, the industry needs to economize. So much waste goes into making films and records–if they claim to be a business, they need to start there. Then they need to launch a great public awareness campaign about stealing and sustain it to get it into people’s heads.

I just have a problem with people trying to stifle innovation on the net in such an overt way. Where would be without Chips who uses photos and sources of people, with accreditation of course, if MPAA or RIAA or other entities have all this control. The reason why the Internet is popular is that anything is possible. This bill makes the Net just as boring and bland and oppressive as the mainstream.

        • 38 nintendowii10
          January 19, 2012 at 7:46 pm

Exactly. While they may have shut Megaupload down, another site just like it will pop up. The RIAA, MPAA are doing this for the money, nothing more. Notice that many of the lawsuits filed by the RIAA because the people they were suing downloaded music from Napster and other filesharing programs were able to settle by paying off the RIAA. The RIAA, MPAA, represent the 1% wealthy elite.

Exactly. Dodd should be ashamed of himself. As though Hollywood is a monolith that he can control. He sees himself as some demi-god. He’d be wise to look in the mirror, realize that PBO could crush him in a second so…… STFU.

Obama has already crushed Dodd once already, in 2008 Obama emerged the victor for the nomination, eventually becoming our current President and Dodd had to drop out. Other than Dodd-Frank, Dodd is a joke.

Dan Quayle had that brain dead, “I practiced saying this in the mirror several times” look. No wonder Bentson sonned him after that response. Bentson should have been on the top of the ticket and not Dukakis for being so nimble on his feet.

Another question, why is it that people are saying PBO’s first ad was defensive? I don’t get it. I also thought that independents were moving towards PBO?

    • 62 Bill
      January 19, 2012 at 7:44 pm

Defensive ads can be very necessary. Kerry made a big mistake not going after the swift boat ads. PBO was very effective in defending himself against the Rev. Wright attacks.

    • January 19, 2012 at 7:46 pm

Independents in the CBS/NYT poll were down on PBO. But both the PPP poll and the Pew Poll had Obama leading Mitt with indies.

    • 65 vero804
      January 19, 2012 at 7:48 pm

It was necessary. I live in VA and as soon as our local and state elections were over Nov. 8th 2011, there were anti-Obama ads regarding Solyndra up and running, replacing all of the negative ads from the local and state races. It has been consistent. Pretty much every morning I can bank on a negative Solyndra ad playing before I leave for work. My understanding is that those forces have upped the money they have backing these negative ads. He has to respond that this point.

    • 66 nintendowii10
      January 19, 2012 at 7:48 pm

It’s because the media wants a horse race for ratings, so they have to play the “Obama is weak with independents and is on the defense” card, all while ignoring how pathetically weak the Republican presidential field is.

    • January 19, 2012 at 7:48 pm

I think they mean its not an attack ad, its PBO’s team defending his record on ethics— that’s how I interpret it.

Well we knew Newt was a vile being. But this story from Gawker just turned up my disgust meter. Apparently, Gingrich may have threatened to out the gay son of Brit Hume of Fox News for an affair he was supposedly having with Susan Molinari’s husband. Would explain why she has been everywhere defending Romney and trashing Newt. Hume’s son committed suicide and Molinari’s husband immediately resigned from congress. Oh yeah, our favorite Pres Obama basher, Joe Scarborough, and tea party scum Dick Armey were involved too. All I can say is, this is the republican party that some want to run our country.

As horrible as all of that is, I honestly don’t feel a bit sorry for Brit Hume and Susan Molinari. They prop up and defend a party that promotes hatred against the “other” and yet they wanna get mad when the chickens come home to roost.

I feel for the young man who committed suicide. He was hounded simply for being gay and daring to do what plenty of straight republicans do, sleep with someone else’s spouse. But Brit Hume promotes the kind of hatred that says his own son was less than human.

So technically Year of the Dragon begins at 2degrees 42minutes of Aquarius, 2:39am EST on Monday January 23, 2012. Be sure to bring something red into your home for luck and to let the money flow! Why ask Republicans if Newt is dog-whistling? Why would they admit it? I saw Ann Curry this morning on the Today Show try to get Newt to admit it, and instead he said she was cooking up problems and that he has been talking about the president being a food stamp president since 2010 and that he’s simply bringing up “the facts.” I thought she looked dumber than him with the line of questioning.

Anyway, just watched Jenny Sanford on Tweety since people on the other thread were commenting on it. I don’t think she did too bad in her interview with Matthews. He kind of treated her like a candidate or like a political spinner. I think she was asked on the show to talk about Newt’s infidelities given her situation with Mark, and instead, Matthews did 1/2 of the interview as if she were a pundit or a Republican strategist of some sort. Of course she was going to get defensive when he asked her to defend the fact that her party is receptive to racial dog-whistles.

Anyway I wish the media wouldn’t ask such dumb questions to republicans, like “why do you guys race bait?” They’ll never admit it.

RIP dear lady. She retired shortly after the Inauguration. Nancy Clarke, White House chief florist, dies http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/obituaries/nancy-clarke-white-house-chief-florist-dies/2012/01/18/gIQAQmyL9P_story.html

I had the pleasure of meeting her several times while I was stationed in DC. Additionally, her creations would grace my desk every week that I went to Church. Gentleman from my Church worked @ the White House, and as the arrangements were changed daily back then (don’t recall hearing about excessive spending back then), the “Saturday” flowers would decorate our Church on Sunday, and my desk on Monday… (we were free to take them (minus the container) after service.)
