HI, sweetness:) Not much going on..moving in slow motion today…if you trotted over to the last night time thread, you will see my angst that my dog had me up at 3:00 AM….. TWICE It got crazier after that
Kind of cloudy today….will putz around and check in here…Still don’t know the lowdown for PBO visit on Wednesday Taking my son with me…he gets to vote for President for the first time this year:) I want him to see the best President ever…and have this memory for his lifetime. Of course, I will let everyone know how it goes….
Hola, DF and dang, I’m so upset that the Prez did not clear his schedule with mine first. What was he thinking, lol! I’m going to be out of town on Wednesday to help my daughter with the kiddos while she gets her pace maker tweaked a bit. This is not something I can put off even for my beloved PBO. My Sis is going to try and be there. Both of you must share your experience and if you all get to shake his hand I will be greener than Kermit in my envy! ♥ ♥ ♥
Hello aquagranny911, I will keep beautiful thoughts and ((((((((((((((((((((((((Hugs)))))))))))))))))))))) coming your way and your daughter’s. I understand the heart. Keep you in my meditations and prayers. Be gentle to yourself . Love coming your way.HZ
So true!! I was also struck by this part when I read Fareed Zakaria’s article:
“The fact is, I’ve got a 13-year-old and 10-year-old daughter, and so, no, Michelle and I don’t do the social scene, because as busy as we are, we have a limited amount of time, and we want to be good parents at a time that’s vitally important for our kids.”
Real “Family Values” it seems to me. I can’t see how the R’s can claim that anyone they have ever voted for meets the definition….not Reagan, not Bush I or II and none of the folks they have to choose from now.
The Obamas are real people and real parents. Family comes first even when you have demanding and important jobs. Your spare time from work goes to your kiddos, not to empty socializing. I saw this with my own children and their close friends as they began to have their own children. A big night was getting all the babies to bed, having some snacks, watching a video together or playing a board game.
“President Obama was inspired to sing a bit of Al Green during a recent campaign stop at the Apollo Theater. And now you can have his rendition of “Let’s Stay Together” as a ringtone. “
Awesome about the ringtone. I made an Al Green radio station on Pandora this morning and have been happily singing along in between comments. I hope that some of the old classics come back to be appreciated by the young kids.
It’s also really great to have Obama be cool again. (He was always cool to us at TOD.)
I was listening to NPR this afternoon and happened to hear part of an interview with Dr. Richard Land, who is affliated with Southern Baptist Convention. He seemed to be supporting Santorum, and thought he could win against Obama. Because after all, no one thought Obama could win against Clinton. I cannot even begin to sort through the differences in those two cases, but whatever. The interviewer then asked him about Pres. Obama singing at the Apollo Theater. I thought he might go all high and mighty about ‘not presidential’, ‘superficial’, etc. But actually the man was obviously very charmed by this and was very impressed. I have been expecting the conservatives to kind of tee off on this, but not this guy anyway.
As Republicans go to the polls Dems are organizing all over SC! Amazing crowd in Columbia listening to DNC ED Gaspard! http://t.co/dbnEGqis— Addie Whisenant (@Addie2012) January 21, 2012
south carolina dems doing their thing got more of a crowd then the republican candidates.
Excellent. I know it’s a long shot but I would love to see Republicans have to spend a lot of time and money campaigning in places like South Carolina that in previous years would have been a cakewalk for them.
I agree with the 50 state strategy in general, but really, why are we spending money in SC? That money is needed more in NC,VA,NV,CO,OH where we might pull off a win again. South Corolina is kind of a lost cause, isn’t it?
If history is any indicator yes but it really depends on how much they’re spending. And if they are not shortchanging someplace else why not? From the turnout in the photo above they have nothing at all to lose.
PBO is a fund-raising juggernaut. The amount of funds raised affords PBO and his team options. I think funds are being parceled out wisely and proportionally.
I think the 50 state strategy is critical to the long-term success of the Democrats and our legislative agenda. Politics is local. We need an enthused base in every state. The working and middle classes are being viciously maligned by the Republicans and the incremental erosion of policies that benefit these classes are being targeted. It is not enough to have a progressive president. We need an informed and engaged electorate to partner with the president. We need supportive and competent advocates at the local and state levels. PBO is one of a kind: intelligent, charismatic, articulate, focused, driven, self-sacrificing – yet he can only do two terms. We need to be ready in 2016 with a viable candidate and logistically prepared to take on corporate interests. That’s harder to do in the absence of someone like PBO and almost impossible to accomplish without a grass roots effort. The stage is starting to be set now for an epic battle with a long-term view.
Wonderful DreamChaser57! For too long Beltway Dems and their supporters said no to the 50 state strategy and it cost us big time. I remember people like Paul Begala mocking Howard Dean for even considering it. Now It looks like thanks to the President and the DNC those days are over.
It was a two edged sword. We increased our numbers but with a number of conservadems who stabbed us in the back. I completely support the concept and we must plant progressive thought wherever possible, but dems swelled their ranks with candidates with no loyalty to the Democratic agenda, much less Obama. I have said since the beginning of the administration that Obama was never placating repubs but the back stabbing conservadems.
Clariification: I completely support what Obama and the dems are doing. Show that we can turn things around district by district. Ignore no one and build an infrastructure. I was referring to the candidates in the mid 2000′s when they took dnc money and never supported our agenda.
I can’t paint all of them with a broadbrush. As tough as things were we got their votes on some major legislation. If a Republican gets those seats none of this stuff passes.
I prefer a Bob Kerrey to a Ben Nelson but even getting his vote 80% of the time is no guarantee. Politics is still a local game. And I disagree the President was placating them since according to him in more than a few instances he got the overwhelming majority of what he wanted.
Besides we had more than a few members of the progressive caucus who were shaky from time to time. Nancy did a marvelous job because building and holding together coalitions is not easy.
I just saw your second post and completely agree. Take Dem money and run as a Republican. We had a local guy who did that as he voted against everything The President supported. Thankfully he’s sitting at home now. I understand cutting them some slack due to the district demographics but if you are not going to at least meet your own party halfway what’s the point? So you are absolutely right.
Not that I hold out much support for them, but I remember reading that most of the Blue Dog Dems voted with the party 60-80% of the time. I realize they screwed up some critical votes, but if more progressive people can’t get elected I think maybe you do the liberal version of William S. Buckley and vote for the most liberal candidate who can get elected. When some of these Blue Dogs lost in 2010 they were replaced by Republicans who voted with us exactly 0% of the time.
In order to work against “the Southern Strategy” put in place by Nixon, Lee Atwater, and their ilk, it will take a 50 state strategy (= the LONG VIEW) to move this country closer to the high ideals the we ‘supposedly espouse. It’s gonna take a LOT of work…
Not only are there massive numbers of AA/Hispanic/Asian/youth in SC to register to vote for congress, there are fundraising opportunities and volunteers to travel to adjoining state to work. I think it is a great investment and I failed to mention the state legislature and governor office. All of those seeds will sprout and produce in many ways. Remember the campaign has a phone bank operation to be used from any state. I love it. It will make the repugs have to work for every vote!
Fig Romney! Mormons and no other religious group run this country and they never should. DANG! This is almost like Romney running home to Mommy for help with his campaign. He is such an ignorant, oblivious goatfigging Repugnant!
I’m sorry but willard gives Mormons a bad name. I’m sure I’m not the only one who notices what a vicious lying sociopath he is. Why wouldn’t the question come up as to ..” is this okay with their religion?”.
Hi all…just got home from work. I read the last thread and wanted to wish Maliaobama a happy Birthday.
On another note. I was talking with a Fox News viewer at work…he is “IN” for Obama/Biden 2012. Seniors down here in Palm Beach County are scared to death of the GOP>
…What a difference a week makes. One good debate performance, another great debate triumph (sparked by a flopped sex scandal attack of the sort that inoculated Bill Clinton in his 1992 presidential campaign) and suddenly Gingrich is back in a big way. The Field projects him to win today’s third-in-the-nation contest, setting up a months-long back-and-forth two-way contest ahead as Gingrich and Romney battle through upcoming state primaries and caucuses (with an ocassional Ron Paul boomlet in the latter, to keep things weird enough). The also-rans have run out of gas. Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum just could not get a word in edgewise and probably wishes he had a sex scandal of his own now. Former Utah Governor Rick Huntsman and Texas Governor Rick Perry are now officially out. And Gingrich will now play Itchy to Romney’s Scratchy for the coming weeks and months and then in the end somebody will get blown up and everybody gets to laugh.
But the real lesson here is that polling is not the most reliable indicator for early presidential primaries and caucuses. It wasn’t four years ago when the pundits and pollsters tried to feed us the “inevitability” of Hillary Clinton’s nomination for president, nor is it this cycle when Politico’s Roger Simon wrote, after the Iowa caucuses that “It’s over. Let’s all head to Tampa” and coronate Romney as the nominee. A lot of people who bet on Romney on Intrade (with a 90 percent supposed chance of winning South Carolina) are likely to be parted with their money tonight because they were foolish enough to believe the mass media hype…
Today’s Republicans are like a bunch of shady accountants who want to run the world. They regard government as this terrible thing that’s costing all this money.
That’s why the public health suffers so dreadfully when conservatives are in power. You should never vote Republican, because people will die if you do. Example: Under Bill Clinton, the infant mortality rate in the U.S. reached its lowest point ever. Under Bush-Cheney, infant mortality started to go up for the first time in 40 years. It is literally true that when Republicans get in power, the babies start to die. Even abortion rates go up when these Scrooges are in power.
Mornin’ y’all! Have been catching up here on the last two threads… Chips.. these are some sturdy folk here on TOD, stamina to spare! How wonderful they are all standing with PBO! How privileged to share in this!
from TPM: Romney Will Attend NBC’s Florida Debate
NBC news Romney campaign embed reporter Garrett Haake confirmed via tweet that the former Massachusetts Gov. will attend the network’s Republican presidential debate on Monday. There had previously been both questions as to Romney’s attendance and whether the debate would go at all, but NBC News Public Relations Director Erika Masonhall tweeted it was set for 9 PM Eastern.
American Idol judges rating Obama’s singing on the Tonight Show. It’s on GoPolitco, can someone embed it for me so we don’t give them clicks? (I don’t know how to do that.)
Carville’s writing is clever, but he’s still a snake. And the Obama campaign does NOT have a billion dollars. This kind of statement, depresses donations and does no one any good. Every time I see Carville’s name in my inbox I hit delete. I don’t care who he’s fundraising for, his name is a turnoff.
Maybe we should all these GOP candidates the “Costa Concordia” bunch. Like the inadequate, selfish ship’s captain..they all strut around, talking a big game, but the first sign of trouble, and they would all abandon ship…first one off…and blame others for the disaster. People in their charge left to fend for themselves….I found it to be so appropriate. Selfish, is what it boils down to…
Click, click, clicking of giant Great Dane feet on the tile floor at 3:00AM to tell me she needed to go out….I fumbled my way to the slider in my room, let her out….30 minutes later, after I’m up….she comes back in. I turn out the lights, we go back to bed. Just about ready to fall BACK asleep, and I hear the “tiptoe” again.
I got up, took her out…..(wait, wait, wait) I end up deciding to sleep on the couch so as not to wake my husband. I just start to fall asleep….and I hear the cat….yakking up a hairball or something…get up. Clean the mess. Go BACK to sleep……Phone rings early…I hear the answering machine…my sister (2 hour time difference)….cat, stretched out, on my shoulder, in my face, poking my eye with her paw…..over and over again. Seriously?????
I could be grumpy today. I just could. Not a good night for sleep. My personal torture. So, how’s YOUR day??
Rainy this morning, sun coming out now. Can’t wait till spring. We’ve decided to get Stewie a doghouse and leave him outside while we’re gone to work. And this Monday and Tuesday he’ll be at doggie daycare.
hahahaha….it must be something in the air? My kittie walked all night the other night…up and down, jumping on and off the bed last Wed and Thurs night. I was very grumpy all day Friday due to lack of sleep. Where is she now you ask? Sleeping. I probably will take a nap this afternoon although I need to clean my home office.
Df, my kitty also was jumping up and down all night, very unusual… We were having a huge windstorm (my damn neighbors wind clangers were screaming all night . ), anyway, I was just outside for a while, cleaning up and assessing damage, turns out my old Italian plum tree came uprooted in the wind, is now leaning on the neighbors fence, and looking like it will have to be removed. Oh, dear, my birdies will not like that one bit, there are many families nesting in that tree all summer. I am so sad.
Impressive. This is certainly a decisive win for the people. What I do find disheartening and troubling is that Congress, as a collective, seems more hell-bent on maintaining their jobs instead of really vetting proposed policy changes and their far-reaching consequences. They are so easily swayed by lobbyist money. It’s like a hoard of unruly children clamoring for a lollipop, doing whatever whenever to get a piece of candy.
Good afternoon TODville, I’m trying to post from my phone for the 1st time…let’s see how it goes.
I am riding the skytrain on my way to the acupuncturist, wearing my Obama button and humming ‘let’s stay together’. People are making eye contact and smiling @ me…hehehe Merci beaucoup Pamela. Life is good
Hi DF, i downloaded it too and asked my BF to call me back so i can listen to it. I’m silly but i don’t apologize for my love for the Obama family.
How’s you dog doing today? Hope she’ll feel better soon and u get to catch up on some zzzzz.
Talk to u later after the acupuncture session. Keep the spirits high
He may have retired or been re-assigned. PBO has a new security detail, it looks like. It’d imagine that job is very stressful and they have to rotate the detail once in a while.
what’s so strange about it? everybody loves Daddy Warbucks. Plus, before the new guy, he was the most identifiable and prominent figure in PBO’s detail. I miss him all the time. Wish he were back, but he deserves his retirement or reassignment.
I hope u'all support the film #RedTails this wknd. Talk to George Lucas all about it on NEXT CHAPTER this Sunday— Oprah Winfrey (@Oprah) January 20, 2012
I went last night at the 5PM and the theater was well attended and a lot of folks came out to support the film and were very pleases as I. I will keep going to see it to give my support.
Ok, an indication of how this puppy has changed me. Pre-puppy, I loved rainy days. Post-puppy, I dread them, since we can’t leave him outside. Now the sun is coming out and it’s like a weight has been lifted from me. Come on spring!
Brown also took on President Barack Obama for proposing tax hikes on families who earn more than $250,000 per year, saying that would hurt “teachers, firefighters, policemen, folks who work two jobs.”
Asked which public servants earn that much money, Brown said it is common for police officers to earn well over $100,000 annually when overtime is factored into their pay.
“You throw in a teacher who’s working, plus a summer job, it adds up pretty quickly,” he said. “There’s quite a few of them.”
Yes, I am a teacher, and I have to say, I will DEFINITELY not be hurt. However I have teacher friends with husbands in business whom this will affect. That’s not the teacher salary though. I don’t know anyone who makes that much or even near it.

Woot!
Good morning Pamela, how are you doing love? I gave you a shout out on last night thread. Check your emails. Muuuuhhhhaaaa!

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for parts of South Carolina and Georgia from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.
The South Carolina counties covered are Aiken, Bamberg, Barnwell, Calhoun, Edgefield, Fairfield, Lexington McCormick, Newberry, Orangeburg, Richland and Saluda.
Fitting…wouldn’t you say? Mother Nature IS NOT HAPPY
Yes, they deny climate change and they hate government socialism, but they’ll be the first to scream for FEMA and government aid.
So bloody true!
@ chucktodd : Per @AliNBCNews, the four SC counties under tornado watch: Richland, Orangeburg, Aiken and Barnwell counties.
McCain won all 4 in 08
Todd should be fired for his obvious Republican bias.
Chuckie should be banished as a commentator for his attack on Colbert. He had no problem with The Donald running for President.
He’s no different from many of them at this juncture.
Another reason for the opportunity to vote early…..

Pamela, Click the link. It’s not connected to Twitter. I just downloaded it!! Nice!!
Also, I suspect that they can’t sell the President’s voice, so they made it FREE!!!!! WOOOO HOOOOOOOOO

That’s what strikes me. I wonder how many republicans are putting up a front like they “hate” PBO but yet they will still vote for him privately.
As they SHOULD BE! They’d be living under a crumbling bridge with GOP in charge!
Worst than continuing crumbling bridges is the potential of eviscorated privatizing of Social Security, Medicare and ACA getting axed.

Ain’t such a cakewalk, huh, Mitt?
American Idol judges rating Obama’s singing on the Tonight Show. It’s on GoPolitco, can someone embed it for me so we don’t give them clicks? (I don’t know how to do that.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJCNlQIQwtA Use this one:)
Funny:) Randy Jackson wants PBO to drop a record! Says he’d be the only President ever to have a record out
Obama could never be on American Idol — he’s too old. He’d have to go on X-Factor.
thanks so much!
The dnc is stepping up their game, they ate all over these primaries!
Debbie Wasserman-Schultz is not to be underestimated. She’s doing a fantastic job for the campaign.
You betcha, she certainy is. Compare her to the tool at the RNC.
“Carville to GOP: You have a disaster on your hands.”
Found this link at OFA posted by Patsouthernliberal. Not a Carville fan, but an amusing read.

Page Not Found with that link, Evonnc….another?

Thanks, LL for the assist:)
You know, Carville is too much of a Clintonista for me to like him, but he does have a wonderfully acerbic writing style.
Yes, his commentary can have a bit of a bite
http://www.cnn.com/2012/01/21/opinion/carville-republican-disaster
Carville’s writing is clever, but he’s still a snake. And the Obama campaign does NOT have a billion dollars. This kind of statement, depresses donations and does no one any good. Every time I see Carville’s name in my inbox I hit delete. I don’t care who he’s fundraising for, his name is a turnoff.
exactly
Me too!
Selfish, is what it boils down to…
I hope that “captain” gets sent to jail for a good, long time.
Lol! Hint- south Carolina…
Bachmann and the half term governor were also weak in geography. Maybe it is a Republican thing.
Yup that will endear him to South Carolineans.

Fear the wrath of us geeks!
Geeks are good:) And just so you know, LL…I was up with MY dog at 3:00AM this morning…TWICE! I love her even more this morning:)
Wha happened??
Oh yeah…mine were all cozied up this morning! Not a care in the world:) Was tempted to lie on her and poke her in the eye:)
Sounds to me like a love affair with both of them, df! Isn’t it the greatest!
I ADORE MY ANIMALS! They are the best….they keep me sane, and love me. No matter what.
Amen to that. I love her so much and when I go away overnight somewhere else, I miss her and can’t wait to get home.
Hope you’re dog is doing better. My kittie cat is my baby.
Thanks,JoJo…she’ll be fine. Danes tend to have sensitive stomachs. She’s so darn cute. The best dog I ever had…but, I need my snooze.
Df, my kitty also was jumping up and down all night, very unusual… We were having a huge windstorm (my damn neighbors wind clangers were screaming all night
. ), anyway, I was just outside for a while, cleaning up and assessing damage, turns out my old Italian plum tree came uprooted in the wind, is now leaning on the neighbors fence, and looking like it will have to be removed. Oh, dear, my birdies will not like that one bit, there are many families nesting in that tree all summer. I am so sad.
I’d naturally think full moon? But I know that’s not the case….So sad to hear about the tree:( And the birdies home
Life is good
Life is GOOD! Your IPhone works just fine…now you have to download the ringtone!!!!!!!!!!!!! They DID IT!
YEA! Obama Ringtone! Dog’s fine….I’m the one that’s dragging ass
I want some of that BBQ!
Hi, I’m new to here. Does anyone know what happened to SAIC Joe Clancy? I haven’t seen him in a while now.
You mean Daddy Warbucks? We’ve wondered about that. Either reassigned or retired, would be my guess.
He may have retired or been re-assigned. PBO has a new security detail, it looks like. It’d imagine that job is very stressful and they have to rotate the detail once in a while.
Strange question for a newbie…just saying
what’s so strange about it? everybody loves Daddy Warbucks. Plus, before the new guy, he was the most identifiable and prominent figure in PBO’s detail. I miss him all the time. Wish he were back, but he deserves his retirement or reassignment.
LMAO. http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-tea-party-20120121,0,4385243.story
I’ll probably watch it next Friday when I’m off.
Hubby and I are headed out right now to see it.
I went last night at the 5PM and the theater was well attended and a lot of folks came out to support the film and were very pleases as I. I will keep going to see it to give my support.
Very good movie. Please support!
New chatty post everyone:

Ok, an indication of how this puppy has changed me. Pre-puppy, I loved rainy days. Post-puppy, I dread them, since we can’t leave him outside. Now the sun is coming out and it’s like a weight has been lifted from me. Come on spring!
Spring means mud. Are you SURE???
You’re in LA? Maybe not so bad
yeah, no mud here. We haven’t had much rain this winter — and today’s “storm” is already gone. God, I love L.A.
LL, when he gets older, it will be better…..even rainy days. Just think TWO YEARS!!! That is the magic time. Good luck.
I know, that’s what everyone keeps telling me. We had him outside most of the morning. Now he’s on the couch next to me curled up. Little schmuck.

What rich school teachers? If Liz warren does not jump on this remark… Somebody retreat this to her twitter page?
Rich school teachers? What an idiot!
Yes, I am a teacher, and I have to say, I will DEFINITELY not be hurt. However I have teacher friends with husbands in business whom this will affect. That’s not the teacher salary though. I don’t know anyone who makes that much or even near it.
