Good point, Chips. It was common knowledge to bank customers, or should’ve been. I can understand him having parked his money there before 2004 and being unaware of the goings-on. But to keep his money there after the terrorist connections were revealed? That’s explosive.

Oh god, I didn’t mean it to be. LOL. I had a four hour meeting going over our presentations for this year’s Summer Reading Program, so I’m a bit fried.
Ha! I feel your pain. When I worked for the Navy, they had meetings to discuss having meetings and committees were formed. And all at oh-dark-thirty in the morning! The last two jobs I had, I was able to escape from about 3/4 of the meetings, due to some creative [fill in the blank]. Only way I survived! All that group-think kinda got me. I cooked up more deals to get things accomplished standing in the hallway talking to a couple of folks for 10 minutes, than anything I ever got done taking a turn to talk in a meeting! (Didn’t mean that long sentence to sound like such a pat on the back for me, but … it’s the truth!)

Earlier this week Thom Hartmann mentioned on his radio show that when he was living in Germany he looked into getting a Swiss bank account. He found they charged 3% to open an account with them. He thought that was crazy since many places over here give bank customers % to put their money in their banks. He said they told him that was because of their secrecy laws. So if someone would pay 3% to have their money there to avoid US taxes and have secrecy that should be the story.

The GOP skewered Geithner for an actual trivial mistake in his taxes that he prepared himself. Romney has an army of tax lawyers to prepare his tax documents. If they omitted something, I’m inclined to think it was on purpose, and should receive even more scrutiny than Geithner’s silly error, which he owned up to. Geithner was embarrassed because he was going to be Treasury Secretary, responsible for the IRS. Shouldn’t Romney be even more embarrassed, since he’s trying to be President – in charge of all of the Executive Branch?

When I logged onto my computer a little while ago I came into my opening page that lists Yahoo news items and there was a news article headlined something like Obama admits to mistakes. It is said to come out in his interview with Diane Sawyer. I picture in my mind the GOP using his words against him. Shudder! I read this father’s whole interview earlier today. By the time I got to the end, I realized that he was VERY open and free with compliments with the FBI, many other government agencies and “our government”…….”very proud to be an American.” However, other than recounting his conversation with the President, he did not one time thank the President. Unless I missed something, I believe I am right. This family lives in Bedford, VA which is Jerry Falwell/Liberty University area.

I am not being mean spirited in my words, and understanding the very personal but highly dangerous situaion for this family, I felt a sting within my heart as well. I understand high pressure rescues and high profile situations could happen to many people. I have a sibling who is in a very, very high profile position, who is in danger every minute of the day and night,but I can’t imagine not thanking the President of the United States when he calls me to give me such great news.
I pray to Almighty God that I will never have to receive that call, but just can’t understand these types of behaviors totally. But I know that POB is a gracious man, and he does understand all of this daily, and that is why I pray for him to speak with seasoned words, tones of compasion, and keep his respectful heart and attitude above the fray as he continues to carry out his duties as the President of the United States. After all, POB had to give the order before anyone moved. Thank God is turned out in such a wonderful way for this precious family.
We all are so saturated with hearing people making speeches in Awards Ceremonies and thanking every person on the planet almost. Why are we as a people so dismissive when so many people seem to just do not want to be respectful to POB. Yes, I said it, and I mean it. I have lived too many years to not know that there are just some people and their positions, you just give due respect to, not matter what and the President of the United States is one, especially when he is the one you are speaking with on the other end of that phone.
I am so grateful that the dear father of Jessica received that most important call, but the President of the United States delivered it to this waiting father. And the President was announced before as the father heard the person say who the father would be speaking to. That is protocol. Why can’t we return the same back to the President of the United States. Just being who I am, and hopefully and prayfully Jessica will get some much needed rest, a loving reunion with her family, and get the best of medical care that she needs. This president answered honestly, he’d read excerpts and that her account of their last private meet deffered from reality. She’d been on record at cspan saying it was very very cordial, and she did not reflect that in her book.
Anyway I guess main take away is her approval is real low, and latinos have ANOTHER reason to vote dem in 2012. OK last part seems dumb, like his treatment and her churlish, lying would be needed to sway them any more that she does not have their interest at heart.

When he’s on his game (as was the case last night), few leaders are better than President Obama at crafting and delivering a speech. His State of the Union address was beautifully written (of course, much credit goes to head speechwriter Jon Favreau) and expertly delivered.
But I was especially aware of what the President didn’t say. And last night his nonverbal communication was spot on. Three body language signals stood out:
1) His smile.
2) His fluid motions.
3) His verbal and nonverbal alignment.
But does any of this really matter in the political arena?

seems like a GOP mayor is contradicting Guv Brewer’s take on “battle at the tarmac” yesterday. According to this mayor, Obama was calm and cool during the whole thing.

Past behavior is the best indicator for future behavior. We really don’t know what happened but the photo is a clue. Also the past behaviors of both participants is a very good indicator. Jan Brewer lied in her book about the meeting at the WH with Prez Obama as witnessed by the news clip right after the meeting. Her lies on beheaded people in her state due to the immigration border problem. Prez Obama has been more than fair and hasn’t lost his calm demeanor in the face of others belittling him time and time again. Using past behaviors alone it is hard to believe her complaint. I also realize those people that already hate him are only going to believe what she said over him.
Chris Cristie just said that people should have had a referendum on Civil rights, rather than dying in the streets.

Mayor Scott Smith of Mesa, Ariz (R-AZ) Seems To Contradict Gov. Brewer’s Story On Obama Run-In
President Obama didn’t exactly walk away from Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) during their disagreement on Wednesday on an airport tarmac near Phoenix, said one of the only people to witness the exchange up close. The president simply began talking to the other two elected officials who were there to greet him.
Mayor Scott Smith of Mesa, Ariz., declined to say exactly what he heard Obama and Brewer talk about during their now-infamous tiff next to Air Force One.
But the mayor said he was standing right next to the governor when the exchange took place and Obama didn’t seem to be in any kind of hurry to leave.
“There was no sense that he was running to or from anything,” Smith told TPM. In fact, he said, the president stayed and had a pleasant conversation with Smith, who’s a Republican, and Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, a Democrat.
It was “just the four of us,” Smith said. “Mayor Stanton and I had a decent talk with him.”
The portrayal of a calm, friendly president seems to at least partly contradict what Brewer has said about the encounter in numerous interviews since Wednesday afternoon. She described the president as “tense” and said he walked away from her while she was in mid-sentence. She told a Phoenix television station she felt “a little bit threatened” by the encounter.
Obama was in the area to tour a nearby Intel chip manufacturing plant and to promote his jobs strategy. But after landing in Mesa, the president somehow ended up talking to Brewer about a book she wrote last year.
Both the governor and White House have said the discussion involved a disagreement about how the book portrayed a June 2010 meeting between Brewer and Obama. A photo of the encounter shows Brewer pointing her finger at the president after handing him a letter she had written.
“It was somewhat of an animated discussion,” Smith said on Thursday. “It revolved around the presentation of the letter…Other than that, I don’t want to get into specifics.”
Smith described the situation as an “awkward moment” but little more than that. He expected the meeting to involve casual pleasantries, not a sticky encounter. “You don’t expect to see that at the bottom of the stairs of Air Force One,” he said.
Smith was disappointed that a small dispute was getting more press than some of the region’s success stories like the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, where the confrontation took place and which has grown exponentially even in the midst of the economic downturn.
He said he was glad the president came to town to highlight Intel and wished the focus could have remained there.
“It was an honor to be able to welcome the president to Mesa, to Arizona,” Smith said, “and I hoped that this little episode between the governor and the president didn’t overshadow all the great things that are going on in the middle of this recession.”

Just so you can turn your attention away from Jan Jan, the spousal unit and I decided to splurge and send Stewie to doggie daycare every work day. It’s a bit of change, but he does so well there, and learns so much, and just takes stress off our shoulders. We think he likes the dog sitters more than he likes us now. We were able to work out a deal with the wonderful lady who runs the daycare, so we’re saving $200 off of what would’ve been the daily rate.
Don’t you just love people who love animals, they seem to be wo kind. My cat sitter is so sweet I just love her. I have to go away at in a few months and she comes to my house and takes are of my cat….she feeds her, sits with her, and plays with her.
So it sounds like the mayor is a bit ticked off too, because her little imbroglio deflected attention from what was supposed to be the purpose.

Here comes the Brewer question, asking him if he’s “thin-skinned” and “tense”. And after he answers, she asks again. Now she’s asking if how the family will feel if he loses. Disgusting. I’m going to give all network journalist (Fox News is propaganda not real news so they don’t count) the benefit of the doubt when interviewing President Obama. Especially those who have very good reputations, like Brian Williams and Diane Sawyer. I think a lot of questions asked by journalist are for the President to be able to tell the American people the truth. Lets just be honest because as quiet as its kept President Obama (regardless of the crazies and you can compromise with the crazies) has the likability, trust and goodwill of the sane American public. Every time President Obama is interviewed by a morally sound journalist his likability (those that aren’t measured through polls) ratings increase ten fold. Watch what I tell ya.

We just have to take her word for it that the “some” are credible, do not have an agenda and actually exist.

Does anybody remember pictures of when Bush woukld speak to the troops. They woudl just stabd there, never show any emotion and definitely never react the way they do with PBO. Jovie, my son is a major in the Army, and I can tell you that a lot of the super right wing military upper staff is gone and even those whose politics tend to be Repbulican have come to respect this man. From the level of major on down, they are strongly for the President, the support is less the farther up you go, but compared to their feelings about Clinto, President Obama is a rock star.

Every year I teach my second graders about Dr. King and his fight for equal rights. I read the stories about ‘whites only’, ‘colored only’ signs on bathroom, drinking fountains, movie theaters, etc. I tell them about black and white children not being aloud to go to the same schools and try to explain how powerfully Dr. King changed the world. It warms my heart to see the looks of incomprehensibility on their faces. They just cannot wrap their minds around it. I know there is still plenty of racism alive and well in this country, but my second graders always give me hope. (And we are in a very Republican area, but my kids seem to love PBO!)
Romney has been getting dinky crowds in Florida of a few hundred. Gingrich is getting thousands. You can see the enthusiasm gap between Romney and Gingrich.
