I never thought I’d say this: well done Jake Tapper.
In a small gathering in Midtown Manhattan on November 29th, 2007, Senator Barack Obama is asked what he would do to begin to bridge the “wealth gap” between America’s very rich and very poor:
Morning everyone ;-)
Bribery does work and don’t let anybody tell you otherwise.
Ooh! derbingle, great start to your day!
ABSOLUTELY…HE’S GOT IT!
Love that photo of our President!!!!
Oh my. If you guys could read my mind! Get out the naughty mat Chips.
MAn it is early in the morning and you are already on the naughty mat. Wow! LOL
Good morning TOD community. Well another week begins. Like last week it will undoubtedly bring lots of good news for the President and bad news for the Republicans.
U.S. Midwest Jobs Return as Applesauce Joins Cars to Lift Obama – Bloomberg bloom.bg/AuCsDb via @BloombergNews #obama2012— BWD (@theonlyadult) January 30, 2012
A great way to start the week. And tomorrow another edition of “The Grossest Show on Earth” as the Klown Kar Circus winds up its act in Florida. I do think Romney will still end up with the nominaion, but if Santorum drops out, and his daughter’s illness gives him a good reason to, Newt the newt will probably get most of those votes, and it will continue to engage the public for a while, with all the accompanying mud slinging.
Santorum should drop out because of his daughter, he can not be that delusional to think he can keep up with Mittens and Newt. As for Florida, I wish Newt would win, only because I would love to see the gop establishment lose it’s mind. It would be entertaining.
I agree with you about Santorum. He gets some people’s sympathy for stopping the campaigning in Florida, but if he gets back into it, that will dry up. Long term, in terms of how people view him, making the sacrifice of dropping out for family reasons actually burnishes his “family values” credentials, whereas not dropping out illustrates (once again) the hypocrisy of the republicans.
You are right, any loving father would put his child first. If he doesn’t drop out he will look awful to the voters.
Like japa, I think Romney will win FLA. However, Newt will not cede the nomination just yet. Newt is very confrontational and he clearly wants to fight with someone this year – perhaps even a physical fight if that’s what is required to get it out of his system – be it with Romney or PBO.
Gooooood Morning…my TODers…
Newt will not concede as slong as he has money….i am not sure why he stays in the race…i wonder if he feels that he has a real possibility of winning the nomination…or that he wants to be the spoiler…and cause a brokered convention…he was not pleased by the pressure being applied by so-called establishmnent REPubs…the irony is that he is one of them…
Morning Joe was speaking about the how taxing the rich will not solve the issue of income inequality….
according to our President …we have to decrease the deficit and make investments in the future…we also have to have a balanced approach…revenues/spending cuts…
the President wants to raise revunes by taxing the 2nd milliona …etc above of millionaires and billionaires…and now that the focus has been on how lil tax they actually pay…the American People are in agreement with that….
I think Newt will stay in as long as his benefactor keeps throwing $10 million at him.
Totally agree with you Hopefruit. Newt won’t quit just yet; not with the plethora of Southern States primaries coming up. Plus, I don’t think Newt wants to necessarily be President, he and Calista just want to sell books and make money. The other reason Newt is going to stay in this clown race is that he’s mad at the way the establishment GOP have branded him persona non grata and deemed Romney the anointed one so he’s going to make sure he bloodies Romney up as much as possible and makes him as weak as possible before the general election. Newt is primed for GOP party destruction and I for one love it! It’s intra-party cannibalism and it’s hilarious.
I have compassion for Santorum’s daughter, but it still doesn’t change the racists things he said and how he felt it wasn’t his job to defend President Obama, when that woman was up there lying saying POTUS wasn’t qualified to be President of the U.S. and that he was a Muslim. So as far as I am concern Santorum is still a racists jackass. I hope his daughter gets better.
Anniebella, he IS a racist jerk and can’t help himself which is completely separate from the little girl struggling for her life. I hope with all my heart that she’s given more time, although her prognosis is very grim. If Rick doesn’t take the time with her now, he will regret it for the rest of his life, even though he will try to bury the guilt with professions of “doing it for his country.” Time lost with a child can not be reclaimed as we all know. There’s no going back to make up time you didn’t spend with your three-year old.
Anniebella. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Their family values are just that “about THEIR family” Of course, I hope that his daughter gets better. Unfortunately, her father has no such similar compassion for other people’s children.
His daughter has excellent health care at one of the best Children’s hospitals in the world. But Little Ricky is not in favor of families of lesser means having the opportunity for their children to have access to the same excellent care. In fact, because he opposes the Affordable Care Act, he supports children getting sick and staying sick longer than they need to. Uggh, racist, hateful, mean man.
Glad Benen is back!
Yes, DF, his replacement Ed Kilgore has been okay, but Benen is special. Look forward to reading him every day and hope he doesn’t get twisted by Maddow.
5th for sure? Maybe……..
I almost fell out my chair when I saw CNN’s headline about Goodluck. Man they are desperate.
What’s it about Jessica? That PBO is a “Goodluck” president? That’s the narrative the GOPMedia has been weaving lately.
This is a good way for the GOPmedia to call PBO incompetent, saying that he wins elections, and has accomplished all that he has done only because of luck. If he was white we would be hearing what a great politician he is.
Debz, you are so right. If he was white, that is what it all boils down too. There are so many people in the country who can’t handle the fact. But we have a dam good President, oh by the way who is black.
I’ve heard Tweety say the same thing “this is the luckiest President’. It’s definitely a way of saying that he is not competent, he’s just been the recipient of good fortune. He hasn’t worked to achieve successful outcomes, those outcomes just “happen” because he’s lucky. Yuk.
Just an extension of the idea that a Black athlete is “naturally talented” while a white athlete has to work hard. Just another way to disparage the achievements of Black folk.
EXACTLY! Beauzeaiux, your analogy is spot-on!
Beauzeaux, I apologize for misspelling your name. I blame it on my enthusiasm for your excellent comment.
Luck is a matter of organization and hard work meeting up with opportunity.
I found the above luck definition and shared it with one of my daughters who had won enumeral scholarships to college her senior year of high school. She was getting really annoyed with all of the people expressing the comments of it being due to good luck. She felt slighted in that she had worked very hard for many years to prepare herself to be competitive for these scholarships. She maintained straight As through school, was President of the Natnl Honor Society, played sports in high school, started a student tutoring club, participated in student government, belonged to the Church Youth Group, did face painting for charity fundraising in local events, applied for every scholarship available, worked for the afterschool daycare program and at a pizza place and pretty much gave up a social life her senior year to get all of the applications and essays completed for the scholarships. I gave her a plaque that said, “Luck is a matter of organization and hard work meeting up with opportunity.” She appreciated someone realizing her efforts. I think we need to keep contacting the WH with our appreciation and letting the news media know there is more to luck than meets the eye.
Good morning all :-) I just want to add that It’s not that president Obama Is a “Goodluck” President, but more of a *Favored* President. And we know that Favor comes from The *ALMIGHTY*. And I deeply believe that :-)
The president came into this world as a human being with all his insecurities and baggage like the rest of us. He didn’t come with super powers. He has experienced setbacks and failings like most people. He has very high intelligence – that is true, but so do many people who are not nearly as successful in their personal or professional lives. Along the way, he has cultivated certain interpersonal traits, competence, skills, and an exceptional work ethic that have been helpful in his professional development and personal life. His current political success I think has a great deal to do with his amazing political acumen which has been sharpened from his days as a community organizer/ state legislator.
And I agree with all of that, I think what I’m trying to say Is this: With PBO being all of what you fore mentioned, that Is why he has FAvor. He has done the right things, which Is pleasing to the Almighty. I agree with you 100% :-)
I agree, Hopefruit, and add that he’s is one of the most brilliant people to ever run for national office. Because few people have his insights, perspectives, depth of knowledge and facility with facts, those who run against him seem smaller and less effective than he is. This isn’t luck, it’s a natural consequences of having an extraordinarily exceptional person run against an ordinary one. It would be virtually impossible for the Republican Party to come up with someone endowed with PBO’s incandescent intelligence because such people are rare in the world. If they were really smart, they would give 2012 a pass, clean up their act, and try anew in 2016.
Huh? I don’t get it what do they mean by good luck.
The EU is getting their shit together and Iran has allowed UN inspectors into it’s nuclear facilities to check for Weaponization!
Of course, people like Simon Johnson had been praying for the opposite to happen.
Welllllll…they had to create a new narrative…saying that he made the economy worse won’t work anymore…esp as the economy continurs to improve and manufacturing jobs are being created…esp with the President record on foreign policy…
so now it is luck..things just fell into his lap….
and to think alllll this was done without one Republican lifting a finger….
this is the narrative to be talked about….just think where we would be…if the President’s policies had not met with the stiff opposition of the Republican Party…
First, they’re throwing crap against a wall hoping something will stick. And second, he’s been blessed with really lousy opponents in his political career.
Jackie, the majority of politicians today are ‘lousy’, a ‘fact’ which no doubt deters good people from participating. IMO lousy politicians have become so much the norm that a good portion of the governed do not know what to do when encountering a Barack. The GOP, themselves not knowing how to deal with the situation and not having the smarts to pivot, demonize him, and many voters programmed to understand this language respond with the political norm. It is my hope that PBO’s time in office will so change the voters’ view of politics that no one will be able to ‘take America back’ any time soon.
Obama approval up… Wash post: 53% rightie Rasmussen: 51%
Let the naysayers talk, while President Obama does the walk.
yes new numbers
Thanks for your response, ma’am.
Is this favorability or approval? There is a difference.
I think it’s favorability, not job approval. However, voters tend to vote emotionally and favorability DOES count. If PBO’s “favorables” continue to exceed that of Romney or Gingrich, it means that he’s relatively popular and that bodes very well for him.
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Obama/Biden 2012. Woo-Hooooooo :-)
Good morning TOD family, I AM on a train on the way to Oakland, CA, even as you read this. :). I started this (normally 1 hour flight) trip at 1:45 this morning….. ” yawning” Oh well, life a series of “little” adventures……enjoy yours…
You too – may you be recovering somewhere even as I write this. ;)
Good Morning all you fine TOD people! Another great week ahead! Love youse guys!
Good Morning everyone. Hope you all have a great day. It’s sunny and bright here in SoCal. I’m off to teach 205 eager 8th graders all about the West. See you later.
Wasn’t schieffer bitching and moaning just coupla days back on how the rethugs were disrespectful of this president ? And now he is yakking it up with that scumbag rnc chief ?
I commented to aamom toward the end of the last thread that I hope PBO supporters in the Twitter War re: Jake Tapper reminded folks how when citizens of New Orleans were drowning, dubya was AWOL. Hope someone posts a twitter pic of dubya with McCain and his birthday cake. Also, who could forget: “heckuva job, Brownie”?!
I don’t think he agreed with the so to be indicted maybe convicted head of the rnc I just think he was surprised at his language.
If he didn’t take that punk to task then and there, then whatever else he did is meaningless. After all, he was the one bemoaning the fact just 2 days back.
I agree he should have bit back on what the “soon to be be indicted” chairman said.
Yes Bob Schieffer was surprised about what the jerk rnc said he was dispicable it was a horrific
accident and people lost live what a prick just disgusting.
He has to talk to the RNC Chairman at times, but the good thing is whenever Priebus appears on teevee he shows how big a creep he is.
Good MOrning, Chips and TOD :)
FRANKLY…NOONE CAN EXPECT RUBIO TO TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT ANYTHING…AFTER ALL…HE’S A REPUBLICAN WHO IS PART OF THE NEW WEALTH AGENDA! ACTUALLY…IT’S AN OLD AGENDA…PBO TURNED THE ROCKS OVER AND THE WORMS ARE STARTING TO SQUIRM. I FEEL SADLY FOR THE FEAR AND PANIC I SEE SETTLING INTO MY REPUBLICAN CHURCH. THEY HAVE NO CANDIDATES AND IT SEEMS AS THOUGH ALL ARE QUITE NERVOUS. ME…I SIT BACK AND KNOW THAT GOD IS IN CONTROL…AND OF COURSE MY OBAMA VAN IS PARKED OUTSIDE IN THE LOT! I KNOW IN MY HEART THAT THEY THINK MY PHYSICAL ILLNESS IS DUE TO MY ALLEGIANCE TO THE PRESIDENT. THAT I’M BEING PUNISHED. I WILL PRAY FOR THEM AND PRESS ON WITH A SMILE!
How do the evangelical Repubs explain Santorum’s daughter’s condition?
I HEAR YOU…THEY CHOOSE TO BELIEVE WHAT THEY WISH TO BELIEVE OUT OF ‘FEAR!’…OUR WORST ENEMY…AND IT’S VERY UNFORTUNATE! THEY HANG ONTO THEIR CONSPIRACY THEORIES ABOUT PBO REGARDLESS..THAT’S REALLY UNFORTUNATE BECAUSE GOD IS WATCHING!
Whenever i think of how the “powers that be” use FEAR to subjugate and divide uss..i think of that video of Michelle Obama..our wise and beautiful First Lady…in which she talks about FEAR….it is a very powerful piece….combine that with Mahler’s piece about the narrative created by the right about the President/…and you have a explanation of why the Right/TP/REPs are so rabid….
but i think the “powers that be” FEAR the influence of on Barack Obama and his crusade in favor of the Middle Class…..and so much more…
I Pray that the Creator keeps our President and his family in a pretective embrace…
That will forever be one of my favorite speeches by Michelle.
Bless you SDS!
You are truly one in a million
“I’mmmmmm soooooo in love with youuuuuu”
I HAVE NO QUESTIONS FOR PBO REALLY AT ANY TIME…TODAY OR OTHERWISE…HE’S DOING A FANTASTIC JOB AND DON’T FIX IT IF IT TAIN’T BROKEN! I FEEL FOR THOSE AMERICANS WHO CAN’T OR REFUSE TO SEE THE AWESOME GOOD OUR PBO IS DOING FOR AMERICA! WE DESPERATELY NEED HIM AND AMERICA IS GOING TO MAKE SURE THAT HE STAYS!
Buen Dia a todos! I hope PBO answers my question ^_^
Gulp. I agree with Tapper.
Checking window to see if pigs are flying in the sky.
That’s how I felt too Trumpdog!!
I give him partial credit. Note he was bemoaning the use of the tragedy as a joke against the President. He did not question the validity of the analogy.
See if the pigs are pink.
Stopped clock and all that.
// begin rant
JUST IMAGINE IF THE ROLES WERE REVERSED
I am glad to see Jake Tapper’s comment about the disgusting remarks made by the RNC Chairman. But if Jake Tapper can see how twisted that comment was, why can’t he call out the twisted LIES OF THE GOP?? Jake Tapper constantly carries water for the GOP in the briefings at the White House. He sits in the front row and parrots the GOP criticisms, complaints and talking points about President Obama. Every once in a while he will ask a question that doesn’t have at it’s root some GOP issue. But it is very rare.
My question to Jake Tapper and his colleagues is why is calling out the GOP lies the exception rather than the rule? I ask a question for which I already know the answer. Bottom line the jackals are afraid of being called liberal by the GOP. You know the old facts have a liberal bias problem. They fear this so much that they are willing to look the other way while Eric Cantor, John Boehner, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and the rest of the Republican Party LIE AND MAKE STUFF UP CONSTANTLY. This is an abdication of their responsibility to educate and inform the public with the facts. It’s hurting our country.
The American people would benefit if the mainstream media called out the GOP all the time for their lies and not just when they make offensive statements like the RNC Chairman on Sunday. That was obviously over the line. And if you want proof of why it was over the line, just imagine if Debbie Wasserman Schultz had said something like that about President George W. Bush. The 24X7 coverage of Reverend Wright would look like childs play. The outrage, the indignation, the calls for resignation would have been made in nanoseconds by the very politicians who now blatantly disrespect President Obama AND the office of the president. I am deeply angry and ashamed of the media. We deserve better.
// end rant
Follow the money…… Sadly.
I hear half those questions submitted were fir legalizing pot.
With all the problems we have, that issue is all they care about?
Exactly! I went on the site and for every one question about a legitimate topic, there are at least 7 questions about legalizing marijuana.
I MUST SAY…THAT’S PRETTY DARNED DISGUSTING. THE MORALS IN OUR SOCIETY ARE FLOATING IN SHALLOW WATERS.
Jovie,Maybe they are Ron Paul folks.
This is what flat out busted and total failure looks like. The End.
In a weekend of trailing the former speaker to a series of events along the I-4 corridor, there was just no escaping that a campaign that was flying high (and even into outer space) ten days ago has now come crashing back to earth. At what was billed as a Hispanic town hall meeting at another church yesterday in Orlando, Gingrich was greeted by row after row of empty pews and maybe 40 voters in attendance. For a full hour after the scheduled starting time, Gingrich and his wife, Callista, sat outside, cloistered in his campaign bus — possibly sulking, possibly fuming at his campaign’s horrid advance work, and surely praying that a few more souls would show up. When Gingrich finally entered the building, it was announced that the event was a town hall no more; the candidate would speak briefly, then take pictures with the scant few who’d turned up. And “briefly” was an understatement: Standing behind a Lucite lectern, Gingrich talked for a bare eight minutes and eleven seconds, looking deflated and exhausted. By no small margin, it was the worst and saddest campaign event that I have witnessed in this presidential cycle.
Nothing like sweet schadenfreude. :)
Couldn’t happen to a better candidate.
I think I heard he had another “worst and saddest campaign event,” recently, where he had to cancel because nobody showed up … so funny!
And, yet, he’ll do anything to keep the money rolling.
My son referred to him this morning as “Salamander Grinch.” :)
Which is why I want Noot to win the nomination. His temperament alone will kill him politically in the General Election. I talk to far too many Independents that think Romney is a successful businessman who is not a partisan and will get things done in Washington. Noot…not so much! It’s also why Noot polls worse with the President.
He is one of those candidates who started this thing as a book tour. Now that he thinks he has a shot he doesn’t have the tools or the organization to follow through. No seasoned pol would have come out of SC without a game plan to trounce Romney in FL. Nooty thought he would just breeze into FL with his SC win and the momentum alone would get him another win. Its that kind of idiotic arrogance that I want going up against the President.
I know you are right, strategically, but I can’t stand the thought of having Noot on stage with President Obama at the debates. Can’t stomach thinking about that. But I also detest Romney’s very being, not to mention his voice and the look on his face. So … not sure what to wish for, at this point!
“US incomes rose 0.5% in December, biggest rise in 9 months; consumer spending flat, government says – @AP”
Perhaps consumers are being savers.
That is what I don’t understand. Around black Friday, they said that x mas shopping was breaking records and online shopping was through the roof!
Flat, define flat?
PERSONALLY..WE CAN’T TRUST WHERE ALL OF THIS REPORTING COMES FROM. THERE ARE HIDDEN STRINGS PULLING THE DRAPES ON OUR ECONOMIC NEWS…FOR A REASON!…START W/ THIS ONE…FAILURE!
I suspect a large portion of the income increase was due to 3.6% raise in social security, military retirement, va and federal pensions
President Obama Calls Out Mike Lee’s Scorched Earth Obstructionism
By Ian Millhiser on Jan 30, 2012 at 9:50 am
Last week, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) announced he would take revenge for President Obama’s decision to make four recess appointments by engaging in a scorched earth campaign of obstruction against the president’s nominees. In his weekly address this weekend, Obama punched back:
Just two days ago, a senator from Utah promised to obstruct every single American I appoint to a judgeship or public service position – unless I fire the consumer watchdog I put in place to protect the American people from financial schemes or malpractice.
For the most part, it’s not that this senator thinks these nominees are unqualified. In fact, all of the judicial nominees being blocked have bipartisan support. And almost 90 percent have unanimous support from the Judiciary Committee.
Instead, one of his aides told reporters that the senator plans to, and I’m quoting here, “Delay and slow the process in order to get the President’s attention.”
Lee is, in many ways, the perfect foil to the president. While Obama wants nothing more than for the Senate to consider his nominees in a timely manner and give them an up or down vote, Lee’s short political career is marred by escalating displays of extremism and embarrassing overreach. A sample of Lee’s beliefs include:
So glad the Administration is pushing back hard on the Republican obstruction. We will be hammering this message all the way to November. Its not that we can’t get things done, its that the Republicans feel it is politically advantageous to simply obstruct getting anything done for there own political gain.
And this is the message that boots on the ground as well as other DEMS must talk about….and it is not opinion…it is fact…a matter of record…
Good morning all, I can’t believe I am current on here this morning. Make the most of this day.
BREWER HAS HISTORY OF GETTING FACTS WRONG:
…Back in 2010 as she defended her state’s harsh immigration law, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) told a newspaper reporter that she was deeply hurt by the terrible names people were calling her. The worst, she said, were the comparisons to the Nazis.
“They are awful,” she said. “Knowing that my father died fighting the Nazi regime in Germany, that I lost him when I was 11 because of that…and then to have them call me Hitler’s daughter. It hurts. It’s ugliness beyond anything I’ve ever experienced.”
The problem, as many discovered after the quote went viral, was that it wasn’t true. Brewer’s father had in fact died of lung disease in California in 1955, a decade after WWII ended.
As Brewer now faces the fact that another one of her stories is coming under question, this one involving an encounter she had with President Obama, a pattern appears to emerging in her career: The popular conservative bomb thrower often has trouble with the truth.

Two new polls show Newt Gingrich narrowing the gap with Mitt Romney in Florida, one day ahead of that state’s crucial primary.
An InsiderAdvantage poll of likely GOP voters released Sunday night shows Romney in the lead with 36 percent support, ahead of Newt Gingrich with 31 percent.
Rick Santorum and Ron Paul tie for third place with 12 percent support each.
If Santorum pulled out and endorsed Newt, Gingrich could pull it off.
Japa, was your comment a pun? If so it was a good one.
8O  8O
great. now i have to take another shower.
Bill go to the naught mat. Move directly to the naughty mat. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.
I do get the feeling the pundits may be a little too certain of the outcome tomorrow.
From First Read:
“How does Gingrich himself get his mojo back? He has a February problem. FOR THE NEXT THREE WEEKS, THERE ARE FOUR CAUCUSES AND NO DEBATES.
HALLELUJAH! Release the confetti!
As much as I enjoy how the debates all but ensure President Obama’s second term, I am relieved that Gingrich does not have a televised forum to pander to the basest elements of his voters. The lower his humanity sinks, the more his numbers rise with that crowd. It’s nice to have a break from all of them.
Yeah but even Mcsame calls for an end to the debates, as they are hurting the Repiblucan brand, and he knows it!
The GOP establishment thought these debates would be an opportunity for the candidates to get free airtime to bash Obama nonstop and drive down his ratings while making themselves more popular. It is backfiring. The candidates are ugly in words and actions. The debates are one mentally exhausting lie-filled hatefest after another. The voters feel their blood pressure rising with each debate. The GOP campaign rallies and “victory” speeches are noisy, angry and hostile – not at all inspiring which is what the voters are looking for. The human brain and body can only process so much hate and anger at a time, which is why OWS is fizzling out. Prolonged non-specific anger is NOT a long-term solution to any problem.
Folks crave a message that is therapeutic, inspiring, healing, uplifting. That’s why at the end of the day, voters will latch on to Al Green’s “let’s stay together” more than any poutrage Tea/Left bagger nonsense.
Very well stated Hopefruit2
Prolonged non-specific anger is NOT a long-term solution to any problem…..
Right onnnnnnn Right on….hopefruit….PREACH
Remember when the GOP changed some of their winner take all states because they saw how the prolonged primary between PBO and Hillary excited people and made PBO a better candidate? They were bragging about how wonderful a prolonged campaign would be for the party. The only thing they have accomplished, is showing the country how morally bankrupt the candidates and the party is. The more debates and the longer Newt stays in, the better it is for everyone to see who they really are.
yes, and a good example of this is ows–they are irrelevant, except that everybody hates them.
And, who cares if Senator Lee filibusters the Presidents nominees? Like that is anything new?
Harry has to file cloture on all of them, since the President was elected.
BBL…LOTS TO DO TODAY! BLESSINGS EVERYONE!
These people who call themselves OWS are now targeting the Government.
This is not OWS anymore, this is occupy Government.
Tea baggers gallore, probably funded by the Kochs.
Their leader is a liberal libertarian. This isn’t surprising at all. From the jump it had a very anti-government, both parties are the same, anti-voting overtone. The very opposite of the Civil Rights Movement of the 60’s and the LGBT movement. I can’t wait for them to fizzle out, it’ll probably happen around summertime or after the election after they do something incredibly stupid or BO wins.
I never thought that OWS was really about Wall Street. I always suspected it was about “government” which is really a proxy for our current President. From day 1.
Yes indeed, hopefruit! From day 1, you’ve told the TRUTH about OWS! Unlike some on this site, OWS never fooled you.
OWS is not funded by Koch. The movement was conceived and created by AdBusters in Canada. The largest single contributor is a former Wall Streeter:
“Robert S. Halper is a retired banker, former vice-chairman of the New York Mercantile Exchange, and a longtime patron of Adbusters, the Canadian magazine initially behind Occupy Wall Street. Halper’s donations to the publication have totaled between $50,000 and $70,000 over the last two decades, with his latest gift of $20,000 arriving about a month before the start of the protest.”
“During the two months protesters camped out in Zuccotti Park, donations poured in from around the nation and world as media attention focused on the round-the-clock demonstration….”
“After raising more than $700,000 last fall, protesters who keep track of money for Occupy Wall Street reported this week that the group has about $170,000 in its bank account. Very few donations are coming in, they said.”
The same Robert Halper also maxed out in individual contributions to Mitt Romney ($2500)
Interesting isn’t it? The purer-than-thou movement that decries the President as not being sufficiently anti-Wall Street has as their chief patron, Rober Halper, a retired Wall Streeter and maxed out contributor to one percenter Mitt Romney.
The problem with being anti-capitalist and anti-government dear Occupiers, is that you need both capital and government to achieve your stated goals.
It is now, co opted !
I agree jovie. ows is now owned. Ironic.
I am glad that Jake Tapper did his tweet on the RNC chair, following his statement on FTN.
The sad thing is there are 2 Minnesotans still missing. A couple from Whitebearlake in MN who were going to Visit the Vatican. Their bodies have not been found.
Those who tweet should make Tapper aware of this and also it was not just the tackiness of the comments by Reince Prieus. It is that he used that to compare this president.
On a weekly, even daily bases, one can find vicious and wickedly fatuous crap said about president Obama by an elected TBGOPer. Had rep Maxine Waters pointed her fingers of the Gov of LA pointed her fingers in the face of GW Bush, we will still be hearing about it.
MSNBC, CNN, CNBC are all calling this president, Barack Obama or just Obama. Now when TBGOPers do it, we know why they do it, to further delegitimize the president. Why are people on the left Not fighting against this. Why are we allowing Gloria Berger, Chris Matthews, Joe Scarborough and many so called Journalists doing that when GOPers would not tolerate such behavior from Journalist, TV and Cable personalities. When we stand idly by, we encourage further disrespect and disparagement of pres Obama. Those who tweet should take on this cause. Those who facebook should take on this cause and those who can set up an organized way to push back with e-mails, letters and phone calls should help Us out.
The media is not on our side. But by not pushing back, they help beat Us. The right didn’t allow the media to start calling Bush, just Bush or George Bush.
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and Energy Secretary Steven Chu plan to flip the switch Monday night on newly installed LED lights that will illuminate most of the Mall — and reduce the National Park Service’s energy bill.
The energy-efficient lights, donated by bulb maker Osram Sylvania and installed for free by Pepco, should cut the Mall’s utility bill by 60 percent to 65 percent, Interior Department officials said. With a long stretch of walking and bike paths and dozens of structures accessible to the public at all hours of the day, the Mall consumes the most electricity of the 397 national parks.
LEDs provide brighter lighting and last longer, so much so that the Park Service expects to not have to replace the bulbs for up to 25 years.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — On the day the Deepwater Horizon sank, BP officials warned in internal e-mails that if the well was not protected by the blowout preventer, crude oil could burst into the Gulf of Mexico at a rate of 3.4 million gallons a day — an amount a million gallons more than what the government later said it believed had spilled daily from the site.

Please watch the video. It will make you smile if not laugh out loud like I did.
I suspect that deep down Kermit and the muppets are all O-bots.
Go Miss Piggy. pathetic pox news indeedy.
FOX News complains that Muppets didn't extend any professional courtesy to Fox's hosts, who are also puppets #p2 #tcon #tlot— SpreadTheWord (@word_34) January 30, 2012
Wisdom out of the mouths of puppets. That made my day. Thanks….
Thanks for the video, It’s a laugher
Haha, you beat me to it lamh35! I just posted this in the newest thread. Still, this was too badass!
Good morning Chips & TODville,
I’m checking out the news on my way to work. It’s gonna be a busy day for our First Couple. More gorgeous pics for us to droole on :)
Pamela, sorry I just saw your message. I’ll reply to it tonight when I get home.
It’s going to be a great week in Obamaland, enjoy it!
How does a liberal call themselves a Libertarian?
It’s like the opposite of being a progressive.
Now, if you are a libertarian, then you should call yourself a REgressive.
That is all.
Jovie, do you remember Lace from the Obama Blog during the 08 election? She was too young to vote in the election but was a big Obama supporter. She went off to college and now she calls herself a “Libertarian”. Unbelievable!
I agree with you completely about the calling themselves a REgressive.
So when Paul drops out, who will she vote for in Nov? Or will she sit out the election?
WOW, sorry to hear that. I was just thinking about her the other day; wondered how she was doing…
She’s a brilliant girl academically. She just finished college in 3 years as a “government” major but is not very political from what I can tell via her FB wall and she never ever shows any support for PBO. I would have thought that she would have gone onto college and would have spearheaded all kinds of groups in support of the President but nada.
Perhaps she’s dating a bagger. Not to worry. “Love” does strange things to people – even intelligent ones. The relationship will end soon and she’ll be back to her senses.
Tonite is Jennifer Granholms first night on Current tv, at 9pm.
She is a big Obama supporter and a good democrat.
YEAH AND WE’LL SEE JUST HOW BIG A SUPPORTER SHE IS…FOLKS SEEM TO CHANGE THEIR STRIPES ONCE THE MICROPHONE IS IN THEIR FACE!!!! YOU KNOW…ONCE THEY GET A SHOW!!!!
Good morning family.

LOL! when all else fails…
The media is trying to push already debunked rumors to create a distracting story about FLOTUS…first she was having an affair with some SS agent…now according to a British tabloid parroted by GOPOLITICO she spends 50K on lingerie at some NYC boutique. So now FLOTUS is now Jezebel! #MEDIAFAIL.
I saw that, her office says totally bunk.
The reason they are going after her, she is raising money this week.
They hate it, when we raise money.
I guess Jodi’s gossip book didn’t quite pan out. So alternative routes are being sought to damage our FLOTUS’s reputation.
Some one must have spent a fortune buying up all of Jodi’s books. I noticed she was #10 on NYT best sellers list, though her book doesn’t appear on any other list anywhere.
Debz, maybe she spent some of that even figure she got, or maybe the NY Times is looking out for there buddy. Didn’t she work for the Times?
I think she did work for the times.
Ha! Our media is so jealous of the First Couple. Heck, I’ll just go on and say it…If I was married to President Barack Obama (and had the money) I might be tempted to spend 50K on my lingerie and coco butter as well.
You go Mrs O!
I read the story last night in the poisonous Telegraph, a paper that makes Fox ‘News’ seem ethical. And then, needless to say, it was picked up that other RW rag The Daily Mail, and, inevitably, Murdoch’s Sun.
Where was there a hint of proof about what they were alleging? Ah, nowhere, of course.
Even GOPolitico is now conceding it might have been a publicity stunt by the lingerie chain. Might?!
But you gotta love how this publicity stunt feeds in to the bigots’ view of Michelle Obama being a black woman living the high life off the back of taxpayers.
I could scream.
FLOTUS is very respected, she is well like and( the enemy the GOP) knows she will be very valuable to the campaign. So they are trying to tarnish her.Won’t work. These right wing nuts did the same thing with FL Hillary, they said she had a affair, they even said she murder someone. What didn’t they say.

Go dems. Make the thugs own their treachery to americans.
East Coast utility company FirstEnergy Corp. says it plans to close six coal-fired power plants and likely sack 529 employees, moves the company says it’s being forced into by strict new EPA regulations. Not everyone is buying the company’s explanation, however, with critics accusing FirstEnergy of using EPA for cover while it makes an unpopular business decision. Did anyone else tear up over the Ledbetter video? Lily you are a “Rock Star’!
Heads up everyone, Jay Carney’s press briefing:
Good Morning TOD Family
Sounds like folks are in a good mood and ready to help the President.
CALL TO ACTION
In his Friday address he asked us to contact elected officials and show our support for the ideas he presented in the SOTU address. Call you Senators and Representative from the House…… Then if you have time, call a few Republicans from other areas. While you have the Senator’s ear mention that you support Senator Gillibrand’s Stock Act which is up for a vote today.
Now that you are “on a roll”
Let’s do something about that guy who put up the slave ship image
The candidate is Mark Oxner
Campaign Phone Number: 863-307-7216.
I would suggest we contact them and tell them that because of their stupidity we are donating to their opponent or to PBO.
In fact let’s so that – Chips donation button is on the right.
I really like this idea of donating as a way to respond to lies, hatred, racism, etc.
The Lilly Ledbetter video is phenomenal. I love it and will spread it around.
