We are the media we’ve been waiting for.
Chips, you are working overtime. It is hard to make that kind of material look perfect, the First Lady does it effortlessly.
Exquisite!!
How are you feeling Africa, you poor thing!
Much better today. Got big scare saturday morning. Woke up and lost balance. Went to emergency room, after battery of tests, they say they think it is vertigo. My hubby had been in hospital week before and I had barely gotten any sleep running back and forth.
I hope to be up and back in business tomorrow.
And tomorrow is my birthday, too!!!
Happy birthday, in advance, to you!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AND I HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER SOON!
Happy b’day africa.
Happy Birthday, Africa! I hope you are feeling much better on your birthday. I also hope your “hubby” is feeling much better to help you celebrate your special day.
I know this year has been a difficult one for you. Sometimes that’s the way the dice of life rolls. Keep on keeping on and things will get better. If you can, take some time to rest and catch your breath. Remember that there are so many of us who love and respect you.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
I am so looking forward to FLOTUS being on the Tonight Show and Ellen.
Yes, we are!! And it is refreshing!!
I want a T-shirt that sez exactly THAT!!
W.H. to journalists: You’re obsolete
“The White House’s drive to embrace new media and technology will achieve nirvana next week as President Barack Obama participates in what his aides are proudly billing as the “first completely-virtual interview from the White House.”
Yes, that’s right. We journalists are now entirely superfluous and irrelevant. The White House can solicit questions directly from the public and no third-party involvement is required.”
http://www.politico.com/blogs/under-the-radar/2012/01/wh-to-journalists-youre-obsolete-112632.html
They don’t report the truth. Instead of telling the news, they want to be the news. Lord God, I miss Tim Russert and Peter Jennings.
No, they don’t, not even if it bites them on their tumbas.
I wonder if Brokaw will stop kissing flip flop Willard’s rear-end now that he is dissed him regarding that ad about Newton Leroy.
I miss Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite.
I doubt the The WH said or implied that journalists are obsolete – not true journalists anyway.
However I’m sure that the WH feels that rumor-mongers, Republican tools, carnival barkers and the like are obsolete. And Politico probably belongs in the latter, rather then the former category.
Glad to see that the MSM is coming to realize what we’ve been saying on these blogs for quite a few months now. Their hectoring and dishonest “objectivity” makes them irrelevant. When they have stories in which one person says the sky is blue with white clouds, and the other person interviewed says the sky is purply polka-dot with clouds made of taffy, and the writer treats both viewpoints as valid, then people start to turn off what the MSM is selling. Report the facts and give cogent analysis, or find yourself increasingly useless.
That is because they are subjective and not objective.
That’s right LL!
” Report the facts and give cogent analysis, or find yourself increasingly useless.”
Very, very, well said Liberal Librarian! I am also very happy that President Obama and his team have decided to communicate directly with the American people instead of trying to go through the mainstream media filters. Speaking for myself, I really don’t want pundits and media people to interpret for me what the President said; especially when I am able to hear directly from the President himself so that I can make up my own mind about social issues.
And the problem with that is what, exactly?
The problem with biased main stream media is that …”48 percent of voters ranked the Internet as the second most impactful advertising medium, second only to television (66 percent). “[excerpt from http://blog.topix.com/2011/11/research-shows-big-link-between-commenting-online-voting.html Many people cannot afford internet access and some people do not know how to use it. I do not think it is fair to imply these people do not matter.
If anyone is interested there is a link in that Politico story that refers to Ann Compton that takes you to a 7 page article about why the media is down on PBO. It was written in 2010 and there are some funny stories about Gibbs’ treatment of the media. It clarifies and confirms much of what we’ve thought about them, but it was still a fun read.

Seven minutes and counting. Long time since I’ve been home to be a part of the conversation here.
this is going to be interesting with POTUS.
STARTING NOW!!
So all these polls have Romney with 15-20% leads over Gingrich in FL. Anyone else getting a de ja vu of New Hampshre in these numbers???
Wasn’t candidate Obama in the leads in the polls going into NH primary in ’08? Then what happened…Hilary C actually won NH. Now I don’t think that Newt’s gonna win FL, but I would not be at all surprised if Newt closes the gap on Romney tomorrow. Especially since the Palins are now in his corner (Todd reportedly gonna be making robo-calls, Sarah all but endorsing Gingrich on FoxNews the past few days) and with the numbers out that say that Mittens has spent 15 million so far to Newt’s 3 millions in negative advertisements (negative ads do work, but they also tend to bring down the numbers of the opponent using negative ads) and what you have is a pretty perfect storm for which Newt can comeback from.
Ppp and insider advantage this morning put Robney at 5 points ahead!
I wouldn’t be surprised either. I think absentee ballots have skewed things for Mitt. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the margin of victory is pared down to a virtual tie.
Im still hoping that some wingnuts break and go for Newt. I want Romney camp to be HUMILIATED at LOSING to a crazy person
I can’t tell if Mary Matlin has Blue eyes?
One blew this way snd one blew that way.
This is a great event. BRAVO, POTUS, for making yourself so available to the public.
THIS is president Obama’s way to WORK AROUND THE IDIOT MEDIA!!!! I love it. WE cut out the middle man, ask our questions and see him directly on our own computers!
Here is the link that is working for me.
Excellent isonprize, I didn’t realize the live video would work here – just added it to the post. You’re a star
First question? Will you write an executive order so everybody can get baked?
I am at Gym. Somebody give us the headup, as to what is being asked?
1st Q was about the minimum wage. This man is going to school full time and working full time and having a hard time making ends meet. Wanted to know if there was support for raising the minimum wage.
2nd Q was from a woman whose husband is a semi-conductor engineer but hasn’t found a job in 3 years. She wanted to know why HB-1 visas are being issued when so many here are out of work. PBO asked her to send him his resume.
Another Q on how the auto industry will continue to thrive long-term. He’s from Detroit and his father works for GM.
He should say their is support on the republican side to lower it.
This is RIDICULOUSLY AWESOME!!!!
That’s right tally!
“Google+hangout” now trending on Twitter
I loved when I logged into Google Chrome earlier, they had a little “ad” running about the Google+ interview.
The last few minutes were so CUTE !! This is an EXCELLENT WAY for the President to connect with REAL Americans!!!
THE GOP PLAINTIVE PLEA: “I WISH I COULD SPEAK LIKE NEWT”
==========================================================
We are witnessing the Newt Gingrich ‘GOPAC MEMO’ in action (aka politics as a blood sport). It is really puzzling to me that more people are not referencing this memo that is the blueprint for his scorched earth approach to campaigning and trashing his opponents. Just check out the words that he recommended that Republicans use to describe Democrats. Newt literally wrote the book on negative politics. When he complains about the negative ads being run by Mitt Romney, I wish someone would tell him to look in the mirror. And by the way, cry me a river Newt.
‘Language: A Key Mechanism of Control’ (February 1995)
================================
Since winning control of Congress, Rep. Newt Gingrich (R.-Ga.) has constantly complained about “destructive” and “negative” coverage from the “liberal elite media.”
.
.
But the clearest expression of Gingrich’s philosophy of media came in a GOPAC memo entitled “Language: A Key Mechanism of Control.” Distributed to GOP candidates across the country, the memo’s list of words for Democrats and words for Republicans was endorsed by Gingrich in a cover letter: “The words in that paper are tested language from a recent series of focus groups where we actually tested ideas and language.” Next time you hear Gingrich complain about media focusing on the negative, refer back to these lists.
As you know, one of the key points in the GOPAC tapes is that “language matters.” In the video “We Are a Majority,” Langauage is listed as akey mechanism of control used by a majority party, along with Agenda, Rules, Attitude and Learning. As the tapes have been used in training sessions across the country and mailed to candidates, we have heard a plaintive plea: “I wish I could speak like Newt.”
That takes years of practice. But we believe that you could have a significant impact on your campaign and the way you communicate if we help a little. That is why we have created this list of words and phrases.
This list is prepared so that you might have a directory of words to use in writing literature and mail, in preparing speeches, and in producing electronic media. The words and phrases are powerful. Read them. Memorize as many as possible. And remember that, like any tool, these words will not help if they are not used….

I am on the road. We are making the long trek from Illinois to South Florida—-driving. I am in withdrawal on the TOD updates and up to the minute newsy news. I only have the USA Today, a really poor substitute. Caught up a bit last night at the motel. The only political stuff I’ve seen was a huge billboard coming into Chattanooga which asked “Why is the media ignoring Ron Paul?” And just now when we got off at the Gainesville exit, 2 college Republicans were putting out thousands of Romney signs—-all in a row, 6 inches apart—-looked ridiculous. I laughed at them and flashed my Obama button as we drove by. Other than that, just the usual Jesus and abortion billboards in southern Ga. and northern Fl. I did miss seeing any Obama stickers or signs. We weren’t exactly driving thru Obama friendly territories, but I did see Obama stuff on this same trip in 2008. I expect all will begin to get in gear soon. Gotta do everything possible to stoke the energy and enthusiasm. So much concentration has been on the Repub contest. Fire up.
Hey dotster keep safe on the road! Keep in mind that the DEMS were in the thick of the primaries at this time in 2008, so I wouldn’t expect to see too many signs now..but as you said once the GOP nominee is chosen – it will be GAME ON!
So far I’m loving this forum. PBO and his WH & campaign team are running circles around the media and going directly to the people. Love it! Hey media, you’re soon to be obsolete. Especially the WH Press Corps.
Loving it too UT, bypassing the media shills and speaking straight to the people ….. perfect!!!
I’m in heaven without the white noise of the idiot media!!
Absolutely meta, isn’t it just a joy to have them cut out of this? So, we get honest, grown-up, smart conversations between the President and the people – LOVE it.
It really is Chips. And I bet he changes a lot of peoples minds about him and the erroneous warped version of him propagated by the media. This is something we haven’t experienced since FDR’s fireside chats when he connected with the American people during the great depression and made the Presidency more personal. By answering questions LIVE, face to face interaction, and bypassing the media, he shows people all over the world that he is indeed ‘The Peoples President.’
LOL ok you can tell when PBO has a new haircut cuz his ears sticks out more.
Plus this looks like so much fun imma try this google plus thing for next time.
These are good questions.
There was an OWS demonstrator from Portland, OR, who is 50 years old and out of a job for 5 years. Wanted to know how she can find a job. PBO talked about what he’s doing to stimulate the economy.
Another question is about small business entrepreneurs and how they can thrive.
Jennifer from Texas whose husband is an engineer asked why so many companies are going for foreign engineers instead of her husband. PBO said that that is different from what businesses are telling him. Businesses should only offer passports to foreign engineers if they can’t find American engineers in specific fields. He asked her to send her husband’s resume. She said she’d take him up on it.
Med student from Detroit asked PBO if the Auto industry’s resurgence will last or if it’s just short term. PBO highlighted all the restructuring he had the auto-industry do in order to produce good cars ie: fuel efficiency.
OWS 51 year old said she voted for him but she’s unemployed how will he help her. He talked about one of Miche’s guests who was in their 50s who went back to school for retraining.
A small business guy asked about PBO’s plan to condense those 4 governmental offices. He asked if it will hurt small businesses. PBO said no and explained about how SBA is still gonna be on top of things.
woman asks PBO what he would do to create a new narrative about what’s going on economically. Kids now hear about foreclosure, etc. How do we explain this to them. PBO says he spends time explaining what’s going on with the economy to his girls. But reminds us that people before us went through worse time i.e: great depression. PBO spins off talking about Department of Education to educate and empower kids to be smart consumers of information and make good decisions.
Okay I’m gonna open up two windows with TOD so I can watch and read at the same time.
Yup, got my two windows open
It takes a lot of guts to do what President Obama is doing. He never lacks courage in using every opportunity & every medium to speak to us.. I’ve never seen anyone like him.
PPP’s second day of tracking in Florida finds little change in the state of the race. Mitt Romney leads with 39% to 32% for Newt Gingrich with Rick Santorum at 14% and Ron Paul at 11%. Romney and Santorum are both down a single point from Saturday’s polling while Paul has gained 2 points and Gingrich has stayed in place.
The reason we don’t find Gingrich getting blown out by a double digit margin in Florida is that he’s winning a lot of the same groups he did in South Carolina. He’s up 37-33 with Evangelicals, 40-33 with Tea Partiers, and 36-29 with voters who describe themselves as ‘very conservative.’ The problem for him is that he’s not winning those groups by the same kinds of margins that he did in the Palmetto State.
Ppp is deadly accurate!
This President is oh my gosh so AMAZING…a wide range of topics…anything…everything…good questions…good answers…the youth, middle aged and senior alike are engaged….
I.Am.In.Awe.
Poll: Affordable Care Act Gaining Wider Acceptance
Thanks for posting this positive poll as when I listern to the GOP debates all I hear is how much everyone hates Obamacare. I also saw a post on here a week or so ago that indicated the popularity of ACA was decreasing instead of increasing. My number one reason to re-elect PBO is to let ACA keep unfolding as planned. I do have more than a hundred reasons to re-elect him but the ACA is a hard fought win I want to preserve.
I have a couple of personal minor stories involving improvements I’ve seen from ACA in keeping track of the insurance statements since the enactment. I like to tell it in public places in a voice that is somewhat loud enough to be heard by others but in an inconspicuous way. Today I told my hairdresser about my up and coming knee surgery and how I am so glad for the new ACA health plan. I have my ease of paperwork improvement story involving my 88 year old Mom’s statements saying denied prevously just because they were received from the care facility in the wrong order and having to intercede whereas now Medicare sends the paperwork on to the secondary insurance themselves avoiding the crossover effect of old since ACA. I also have the online tests savings story using my own Xrays being forwarded to the specialist instead of having to have it done over. I spent my whole haircut convincing my hairdresser who I had never seen before of the good of ACA. There were others in earshot so hope some of them were convinced too.
I use my stories at Art Guild and lunchtime too. Doing what I can so people will hear positive stories from day to day people.
Good for you, AG. Word of mouth is VERY powerful!
This is very good news. As people experience the benefits of ACA, they will resist those who want to change it, making the Repeal! Repeal! screamers seem out of synch with the zeitgeist.
Homeless vet asking why are we sending money to fund terrorism when there are so many homeless vets. PBO talks about increasing vet budget every year since he came into office. He talks about wanting to decrease homelessness among vets. Now moves to foreign aid only 1% of our budget. Says foreign aid is helpful because if we help in a famine it may, further down the road help to prevent a war. He says it’s the right thing to do. Now Pakistan: he agrees there. But we are trying to find the right balance aid= help tracking terrorist. foreign aid is good for our safety.
TALK ABOUT CIRCUMVENTING THE MEDIA FIREWALL
This is just terrific. I am loving this Google Hangout Interview with President Obama. An absolutely brilliant use of social networking.
Jennifer with the engineer husband says that she understands what PBO is saying but it’s hard to see homeless people and unemployed. PBO re-emphasizes that foreign aid is just 1% and winds up saving more money than we send over there. Also, he says that we help them, but they also have to help themselves.
She’s from Ft. Worth, Texas. Wonder what the unemployment rate is there and if it’s a conservative area.
She didn’t seem to excited that PBO offered to take her husband’s resume. I’d be THRILLED.
She will be once he follows through. She’s just skeptical that someone so high up would say ‘give me your husbands resume’
So: here’s where we can be educated as citizens: amazing. Conversations with the President, a person we trust.
Who else would put himself on the line and treat us with such respect . . . .
Senate passed 93-2 to move forward with the Anti-Insider Trading Bill
Coburn and Burr voted NO.
the questions are good in that they’re asking the kind of stuff that people concern themselves with.. as opposed to what journalists/media think folks are concerned about. Glad the drones question was asked because I read about it this morning.
guy asking about PBO’s drone attack in Iraq. PBO says mostly it’s surveilance and drones have not caused a “huge amounts of civilian casualties.” PBO said it’s target, precision strikes. It’s kept on a very tight leash and it’s part and parcel of our authority when it comes to fighting al qaeda.
kid asks if the drone strikes sends the wrong messages to other countries. PBO talks about drone strikes in tough areas where drone attacks are less intrusive.
This is amazing, President Obama is answering the question being asked. Welcome to the future of campainging.
The mainstream media is becoming irrelevant.
that’s the brilliance of this. GOING AROUND THE MEDIA!!!! I love it!!
Romney couldn’t do this!
none of those gop fools could do this, certainly not on the level POTUS is doing/responding.
Education question from Adam: how does PBO plan to help kids pay off student loans. PBO clarifies that when he says higher education he doesn’t necessarily mean a 4 year degree. It includes training programs, etc. The point is that a high school degree is very hard to help someone get a good job that will help to take care of their families. He talks about the bill signed that takes $60 billion from banks and gave it directly to kids. talks about how student loan interest rate will go up this summer if congress doesn’t do something about it. Plus, his focus on how colleges and universities can hold down cost. More money to more schools who prove they can keep costs down.
thank you so much for doing this Lisalovesobama – I missed it. Reading your posts makes me feel as if I was there and didn’t miss anything.
Thank you
No prob, Nospin. Happy to do it.
Agree with Nospin, Lisa. You are a real soldier for doing this. Can’t thank you enough.
This lady Jennifer seems negative. High school kids I know are actually more encouraged to go to college/ do technical training because of the financial crisis.
you & I both feeling the same about ms. Jennifer
Me, too. She was bordering on rude and belligerent. But, it was also good to hear from a hostile party – because she’ll likely carry this conversation back to her ilk who are not very well informed or stuck in their thinking. And when she finds out that the President says what he means, and he will follow through on his promise to investigate her husband’s case, she might just get some hope back.
Right. You can’t just stop at high school. You have to get some training somewhere. Whether its at Harvard or local auto repair school.
Jennifer is a bit frustrating.. she seems determined to hear nothing hopeful.
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one feeling that way. I had to stop myself from calling her a few choice words because she was trying to make it seem like the Pres was not really answering the question and that he may be giving false hope, when in reality he is trying to encourage them to continue to get their education and get us (America) out of a mess he didn’t cause.
I wonder if she is the same ‘Jennifer’ I see on Balloon-Juice who’s either pimping her own blog or making negative comments?
Fire-bagger’ish.
I know, I shouldn’t call names. Sorry.
Adam: what advice would you give someone like me who wants higher education but am afraid of not being able to pay off loans.
PBO: you can do it. Miche and I paid off our loans. think of it as an investment, don’t party. Get help from adults to make the right decisions.
Jennifer says that kids are afraid when they see their parent’s being laid off. so they are hesitant to enter college and gain debt.
PBO: unemployment is higher for kids who only have a high school degree. a higher education is an investment, though everybody doesn’t necessarily need a 4 year degree.
I’ve concluded that Jennifer needs to direct her questions to people who are and are not doing the hiring.
Sweet! Thanks LL.
so have they asked the will you make weed legal question ? I’m sure thats gonna get asked.
Nope! surprisingly the #1 question was about some guy named Richard Dweyer (?) being extradited for piracy or some such. Not really sure. Never heard of the case before.
whoever the people were who wanted that question asked, flooded the website with “Up votes” for that question.
SOPA question. How will you combat internet piracy vs. free speech
PBO: we must protect internet because it is our biggest export (?).
they got PBO’s youtube impersonator to ask him a dumb question
I always thought that guy was the worst and unfunniest impersonator I ever saw
yup!
Really? I like him. The worst, in my opinion, is the guy who does him on SNL. Ugh.
I just don’t think he looks or sounds like PBO, and he never makes me smile. But I’m a grumpy-guts!
No you are not, just a woman with high standards!
What is Jennifer’s problemk, she seems to want everyting to show up on her doorstep. I’m sure she voted Republican, and now she seems bent on blaming President Obama for all her problems.
get up & do a little jig for us?? that just felt very wrong.
I was so offended by that question. The President just brushed it off – I think he had her number after the first few minutes.
It’s official. I don’t like Jennifer. ‘Stand up and do a jig for us?’
Funny, I was thinking the same thing. A jig??????
Somebody flipped a switch and said it was acceptable to act publicly display your racist flag whether it’s that mayor in East Hanover and his response to Latinos, of the AZ governor, or the elected official that dissed the First Lady’s physique or this idiot Jennifer. I am sick of it.
and there you have it FiredUp.
Wait, WTF??? I had someone in my office and missed that – WHAT HAPPENED????
at the end Tally, the moderator told them they could each ask a personal question of the President… Jennifer’s question: ” Well could you get up and do a little jig for us” (he said he doesn’t dance so well… so Jennifer asked him to sing) He didn’t. It was an odd question w/ some dog whistling connotations, imo.
OMFG. “JIG”
What state/city does she live in? Anyone get that? Just curious.
Hiya Tally, she’s from …… Fort Worth, Texas.
§ç√ñ†.
I believe she resides in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of TX.
I’m hope the staff member who gets her hubby’s resume round files it. You’re asking the President to do you favor then cap it with a racist insult! Jennifer, I can tell you why your husband can’t get a job , he’s stupid enough to be married to you.
A jig? WTF!!!
Actually it’s pretty much in line with all of her other pissy questions.
She seemed to have lightened up at the end – brought out the kids..and generally seemed more upbeat…not sure what the deal was with the pissy questions at first.
The one with the kids was cool throughout. Jennifer is the one with the unemployed engineer husband who was negative from jump.
Okay I’m getting them confused–I thought Jennifer had the 3 kids as well. Sorry about that…
Can I just say Jennifer totally pissed me off asking the freakin PRESIDENT to dance for her? Sorry that was a dog whistle. And I’m sure she voted republican. You could tell she had a closed mind and the way she challenged him was just like a right winger. Ugh.
OK I’m convinced it’s the same Jennifer. She’s made questionable comments about ABL, and once said she thought it was ok to like her racist mammy doll [or any racist symbol--like the flag] and still not be a racist. When I responded that it was not ok, she clocked on me, got really pissy and swore a lot.
It’s the same Jennifer. I’d bet $10,000.
A jig? Really?
That reminds me of Harry Morgan’s first appearance on “MASH”, where he plays an insane general. Hawkeye crosses him, and he brings him up on charges. One of the witnesses is a black helicopter pilot whom Hawkeye told to get a wounded soldier to a rear hospital, while Harry’s character wanted to do aerial reconnaissance. The general starts to prepare his line of questioning, but before getting to that says “But first, give us a number.” The pilot looks dumbfounded. Harry’s character then says “Well, come on boy, it’s in your blood!” Why do I think there’s more than one GOPer who wants to say that to PBO?
That was great. I love to see the President doing these.
THAT WAS AWSOME!
HOW AWESOME WAS THAT???????
I LOVED IT!
OH MY GOD!!! HE REMINDED JENNIFER TO SEND HIM THE RESUME!!!!!!!! Oh My God!!!! I love him!!!!!
Lisa, remember he does not connect with people.
I loved that, too. I actually applauded.
That was absolutely fantastic, I didn’t want it to stop! BRILLIANT, BRILLIANT, BRILLIANT!!!!
BAM! President Obama told Jennifer to send him her husband’s information.
I am like everyone upthread and I only caught the last end of the forum but I instantly disliked that Jennifer person.
Someone came in my office and had the nerve to TALK to me when Jennifer was on – what happened????
Tally, Jennifer actually asked “Mr President, will you get up and do a jig for us?”
he demurred so she asked for a song. He said maybe sometime in the future.
Have I said recently how much I love and admire our President Barack H. Obama???!!!!!!!
He was fantastic just now!!!!!!
I loved it when he said that the NY Times article about the drones was not completely factual.
It really felt cozy & personal like havig the Prez. at your kitchen table. This felt different from the earlier Google summit earlier int he presidency. Me loves it
Breaking: Mitt Romney to do a Google+Hangout in March.
For realz?
you’re joking right, hope?
Definitely joking!
hope. you are one baaaaaaad woman.
hopefruit2, re: Myth Robme, real or joke?
No way! He would crack under that kind of contiuous pressure.
…….And that is how you knock someone out with a feather.
I smiled throught the entire event.
Goodness I love this President. Nobody can touch him. Eat your heart out Romney and Nooty
I want to see My President doing Google Hangouts every 3 months!
yep he is amazing.. and how he answers everything, regardless of the question, their tone.. whatever, he just answers with steady tones, he is involved, he corrects misconceptions but theres no defensiveness, no attitude. Who else could do this so well and with such genuine purpose??? I say it everytime but he is one of a kind. The Cream at the Top~
Agreed! He rolled with everything;; handled it all with grace and aplomb. Our illustrious prez is fearless! I liked how he played off the do a jig for us (SERIOUSLY?!?) and the “impersonator”. Fantastic use of technology.
You have the opportunity to speak directly with the 44th President of the United States, who happens to be black, and you have the effing unmitigated gall to choose as your personal question, ‘would you stand up and do a jig for US?
I am so pissed.
FiredUpinCA. Don’t be pissed. Just go out and register 10 new voters for Pres. Obama. That’s what I plan to do.
Or DONATE $$ to the campaign in honor of “Jig Jennifer”
Or make some phone calls for the campaign.
Or do like Sue and volunteer your time with people less fortunate.
Jig Jennifer is NOT WORTH YOUR PRECIOUS ENERGY!!! I know she’s not worth mine…
Good advice isonprize. If she was this obvious, she’s dug her own pit. Those who support PBO will see her for what she is and support him all the more. Those who appreciated her racist dogwhistles are lost anyway. Our president has dealt with them all. He wipes them off his shoulders.
You are so right why waste our precious PBO did fantastic let’s move on .
I hear ya FiredUp. She had me pizzzed as well. But let’s not let one person spoil our experience of our amazing PBO’s ability to connect with regular folks. The majority of folks were respectful and clearly appreciated this opportunity. The range of questions were amazing and I’m glad that he got some emoprog questions that he could set the record straight.
Note to the Media: Be afraid…be VERY afraid.
Jennifer is just the latest example of people who have a high level of comfort of displaying their contempt and racism. I don’t know what triggered it but I don’t remember it being this bad as recently as 2008. it’s one thing to hide in anonymous crowds and shout invective at tea parties or Sarah Palin rallies but it’s another to do this directly to the President. That’s what is what is ticking me off. They think it’s okay to ask any President to do a jig or just this one? They think it’s okay to wag their finger at any President or just this one?
To protest a bill that would require women to undergo an ultrasound before having an abortion, Virginia State Sen. Janet Howell (D-Fairfax) on Monday attached an amendment that would require men to have a rectal exam and a cardiac stress test before obtaining a prescription for erectile dysfunction medication.
“We need some gender equity here,” she told HuffPost. “The Virginia senate is about to pass a bill that will require a woman to have totally unnecessary medical procedure at their cost and inconvenience. If we’re going to do that to women, why not do that to men?”
The Republican-controlled senate narrowly rejected the amendment Monday by a vote of 21 to 19, but passed the mandatory ultrasound bill in a voice vote. A similar bill in Texas, which physicians say has caused a “bureaucratic nightmare,” is currently being challenged in court.
Howell said she is not surprised her amendment failed.
“This is more of a message type of an amendment, so I was pleased to get 19 votes,” she said.
She pointed out that there are only seven women in the Virginia senate, and six of them voted in favor of her amendment, along with 13 male senators. Sen. Jill Vogel (R-Fauquier County), the sponsor of the mandatory ultrasound bill, voted against it.
“I do believe that erectile dysfunction in this context is different from pregnancy,” she said on the senate floor.
The Senate will formally vote on the mandatory ultrasound bill on Tuesday.

Good for her !
Here’s the end of the interview:
Chipsticks – you are dynamite!
Asking him to sing and dance was a but much.
Meta, I am AA and the first thing that came to my mind was the old stereotype that all AA’s can dance. How dare she ask such a loaded question trying to be comical. Where was she from?
“Where was she from?” A hurting place.
Ft. Worth, TX. She was the one with all the negative questions.
Meta, I should have known she was from a red state.
I grew up in one.
That was great. Yes Jennifer was a little annoying to us because we hang on PBO’s every word but it was good that she kept him on his toes because the things she said are indicative of how some people are thinking and it was good that he went back to her again and again after she said her piece so he could enlighten her. For example, the whole foreign aid thing. He had to go back to her and really let her know that 1% wasn’t 25% of the budget. He said it’s the right thing to do but it’s also strategic and necessary for our country’s safety. By the end, I think she enjoyed it. she asked him to dance. He demurred and so she asked him to sing and he said maybe next time. It was a good conversation. It’s good that he got a chance to combat that level of misinformation and possibly, disappointment. It will help him in the future like when he goes on the campaign trail.
LLObama, you and President Obama are much more gracious than I. I thought she was annoying and very negative. She also thought she was being slick with her “Mr. President, will you do a jig for us” Very ignorant. Just for her, I”m going out and registering 10, hopefully 20 new voters for Pres. Obama.
I’m with isonprize. The “do a jig for us” didn’t bother me as much as her just seeming to have a funky tude.
I agree lisa. Sometimes it’s good when he gets those kinds of questions because they actually reflect misinformation that is exacerbated and sometimes promoted by our lazy Left and Right Wing media. And yes I do believe that Jennifer came around towards the end.
Completely agree with your assessment Lisa.
Lisa, that’s how I viewed the entire Jennifer exchange as well. I thought PBO handled her masterfully. There are people who support this President but feel the way Jennifer does. I encounter them on Facebook quite often. Yes the whole jig and sing thing was silly but she probably thought she was being funny and lighthearted. I don’t know and I could be wrong but I didn’t sense anything malicious behind it.
I’m sure having your husband out of work for so long is horribly stressful but she seemed to want him to solve it all. This is the biggest problem with our electorate. They only hear the sound bites on hideous shows that pass for political commentary.
Trust me she is typical of people in her situation. People actually thought that PBO was going to become President and wipe all their concerns away. They want him to fix whatever problems they are having. They expected that magic wand that doesn’t exist. She is a prime example of it. Fix Me! Don’t spend any money anywhere else except to Fix Me!!!! That attitude was on full display today. I’m glad he encountered her in this event. There are plenty more out there just like Jennifer.
I agree. She really did bug me, however, with her aggressiveness. He’s POTUS – I thought she could have shown more respect and not interrupted and inserted herself so much. But whatever. The others were very gracious. Even the homeless vet was pretty calm.
Perhaps she will be graced with enough remorse later on tonight, after her kids are asleep, to recognize she has only embarrassed herself in making such rude remarks to the President of the United States, during an astonishingly privileged moment of true conversation with him. Lucky her, she gets to replay that conversation over and over in her mind, as any normal person would be compelled to do, listening to her own inanity, and never be able to take it back. I hope she will include a letter conveying her deepest apologies to PBO, when she sends her husbands resume! On the other hand, she could become the next Obamabot, and single handedly convert Texas to Blue, having been treated with such respect by this fine, generous hearted man we know and love!
meh. he’s heard that issue and question a thousand times.
lisa, I took it the same way as you. A lot of people are not that informed and the President has to be seen answering all types of questions from all types. I think he is just extraordinary—-I can’t see anyone from the other side exposing themselves like this to reach directly to the people. Jennifer irritated me but these interactions are necessary. PBO doesn’t flinch and isn’t scared of any situation. He always handles himself regardless of the person.
I want someone to slap Jennifer! Stanking heffa. PBO offered to take a look at ur husbands resume, the opertunity of a freaking lifetime and you are being a witch. I could rang her neck. I knew when it first started i wouldn’t like her when she CUT PBO OFF.
I’m sorry! Im being rude but owww…
That pissed me off too. But then I think about the fact that most every time this president talks to real people, it’s positive and he receives a lot of love from them. Most people aren’t jerks like Jennifer was.
Remember now, President Obama told her to send the resume AFTER she asked him to stand up and do a jig.
The President is an exceptional human being for having the ability to not let petty disrespectful behavior get the best of him.
What a wonderful President the United States has.
So down to earth and so charming.
Although I’ve never met him I feel like he’s a member of my family.
What a beautiful human being.
Don’t think for second that Romney and Newt aren’t taking notes, neither one of them could do what President Obama just did.
Yes, there answer would have been “Repeal Obamacare” and a ‘bigger navy’ or ‘no more appeasement’. Mitt Romney would have also tried to give her $50 right there and tell her husband that he should join the military.
As i think about it. I actually don’t mind Jennifer as much as some do and can see where she’s coming from. Her husband studied hard for a degree that should allow him to get a job anytime anywhere. She’s a wife and mother and she doesn’t see her husband getting the opportunities he’s supposed to. This economy has been hard on everyone and she got the chance to take her problem directly to the man in charge and she did. She was probably feeling disillusioned and frustrated and likely thought he wasn’t being honest when he first asked her to send her husband’s resume. I don’t blame her for that because 4 years ago, that was me. I didn’t trust any politician and I wouldn’t touch one to save their lives. This was a good conversation for her to have because she needs to realize that government can help her, that PBO isn’t a facetious bastard who doesn’t give a shit about her and her family. She came with tough questions because this matters to her. Her husband who likely worked his butt off in college for his degree doesn’t have a job, but businesses are giving passports away to foreign engineers who do the same job her husband is able to do. It’s not fair and she needed answers. I found her annoying but I can see where she’s coming from and so did PBO which is why he never gave up on her. He still went back to her and had a conversation with her. I guarantee you that’s what she’ll take away from this interview. The fact that he really talked to her about her concerns and seemed interested in helping her. And her one story can change how her family and friends perceive him, it can change her outlook of the way this country is being run and what our future will be with him still at the helm. Her one voice can make a lot of difference.
“One voice can change a room, and if one voice can change a room, then it can change a city, and if it can change a city, it can change a state, and if it change a state, it can change a nation, and if it can change a nation, it can change the world. Your voice can change the world.” —– Barack Obama
Lisa, your assessment about Jennifer in the Google+ Hangout was my take away as well. She might have been a mite irritating, but it was necessary for PBO to speak with voters like her who might/do support him but for some reason or another ( as frustrating as it is) haven’t been able to wade through the media BS to search for truth about PBO’s accomplishments.
Moderator says that some voted for him and some didn’t. She gave no indication that she supported him at all.
Lisa: A great commentary! Especially because our President Obama is also non-combative and non-confrontational. I just read an article somewhere by some topnotch psychiatrist that he feels a change in the air since President Obama took office. People seem less angry, willing to listen, looking for discussions on the ‘no, no, topic of politics. Bet he was around a lot of Democratics to say something like that. Once he seat President Obama for another 4 years, we’ll have it made. Then we start looking at the Democratics in Congress much closer. Again, Lisa, thank you.
Chipsticks: Thank you, too, for putting the inteview on. Love it.
I too like your analogy Lisa, great point, we really do have to flip the coin on somethings, thank you
She may not even be real, just a troll trying to start trouble.
That’s why our President asked her to send the resume…because a part of him doesn’t buy the crap she’s selling. She may have been a GOP plant, and the President might be on to her B.S. PBO may be a gentle soul, but he ain’t nobody’s damn fool. If her husband’s story is for real, she WILL send him the resume – which unemployed person would turn down the opportunity to have their resume forwarded by the President of the United States?
Hey everyone. I’m just chiming in for my bit. Didn’t see the broadcast. Gathering everyone’s opinions here, and especially of some broad named Jennifer. My take…….no one ever had access to the Bushies- in fact, they were afraid. PBO gives us the chance to participate with him in the day to day governing, and too many have taken him for granted. As for people thinking he would solve all their problems- nope! For those silly enough to have thought so, grow up. He is one man. But my take is- most folk knew better than he being able to make problems vanish in quick time. No. It is a known fact that when hiring a black person to do a job, there is a double standard. That person must be smarter, quicker, more congenial, more “grateful”. Call me cycnical. Whatever. As for black folk being impatient with him as well, our people have been “trained” to be harder on each other than on others. I believe this to be a coping mechanism created during slavery, as a way to keep the peace and stay alive. So, we look upon him a bit more apprehensively to see that he does his job as per the requirements, never knowing when to relax, even though he has shown his brilliance time and again. As for those who have given him short shrift, some voted for him because he was “cool” (liberals); some loathed the other side (independents); some timid (too many democrats), therefore all the noise and finger pointing when what he campaigned on did not all materialize. It is with the support of folks like TOD, POU, and so many others, fortunately, that he is where he is in the mind of the broad public. And I thank us and him, and his family and administration, and my God- that PBO handles questions such as in that format so willingly and open and honestly. So folks like Jennifer who think it “cute” to ask my President to “do a jig” knew exactly what she was echoing. She could never have done that with the last administration, so she should not have done so with this President. My favorite motto- self composed, I might add, is “People know what they do”.
As usual, Lisa, impressive analysis. And spot on. Our president doesn’t need to be coddled with easy questions; he can handle anything and he did. Contrast with the way Willard puts people down and over reacts when they ask him a touchy question and the way nasty boy Newt just spews vitriol. We have a person of impressive class in our president and a bunch of clueless louts running against him.
President Obama is not coddled with easy questions. Dumb questions? he gets a million of those and some of us are tired of it.
I went to law school, got a degree and never once thought I was “supposed to” get a job. I thought it would make it easier, but I never thought I would just get a job based on my degree. There has got to be some personality behind it that allows people to want to hire you. Maybe her husband is weird in interviews? There’s more to getting a job than having the right degree.
I predicted Newt would meltdown in Florida. He never wanted the nomination, he’s been disguising his book tour as a Presidential campaign, hence the Herman Cain endorsement. Remember when Herman Cain peaked, and he melted down when those sexual harassment and affair charges leaked to the media?
Difference with Newt is he’s doing it all to himself. He put his foot in his mouth way too much, including his stupid moon colony fantasy. That was his Rick Perry “oops” moment, and it’s going to end up ending his candidacy as much as “Oops” did Rick Perry’s. As for taking it to the convention, it’s all bluster. He’s going to end up like Rick Perry, continuing to sink in the polls as Mitt laughs in his face… although I do enjoy how much Newt is destroying Mitt the longer he stays in.
Newt will likely go to the convention. An article yesterday said that Adelson wants him to stay in. Also, Newt never wanted to win the nomination he just wanted to stick it to the D.C. Republicans.
I don’t see that happening when Newt’s funds dry up… it’s all bluster to make him look “tough,” but it makes him look like a petulant little man. Most of the hard right KNOWS Mitt is going to win it, why the hell else would even Ann Coulter, who was bashing Mitt in the past, get behind him?
The next cycle of primaries are not going to be favorable to Newt. Mitt has a HUGE lead in Nevada, which has a large Mormon voting bloc, then you have Virginia and the five other states where Newt isn’t on the ballot, that’s 529 Mitt Romney delegates.
The Google+ Hangout Post SOTU discussion/conversation was amazing. It was informative, it was educational, it was factual (on the part of PBO), and filled with good, if sometimes frustrating questions. The White House and the Obama 2012 team should have more forums such as this. It allows PBO to cut through the warped perception of him painted by the sloppy media and connect (which he does so well) with everyday voters. It also allows him to connect with millions of people all over the world and allows them to observe the real meaning of democracy. I’m positive that this Post-SOTU conversation will change a lot of peoples minds (those who are open to change and aren’t part of the teaparty, OWS, Obama Derangement Syndrome faction) and move people to his side; especially voters who haven’t been able to wade through the noise of the media to get the truth.
+1000000000000000
Couldn’t have said it any better.
I think so too, UT. This kind of outreach matters in a way Willard and his Rovian brothers could never understand. I’m glad he did it and hope he’s able to do more.
The woman with the unemployed engineering husband should go to the companies that aren’t hiring and ask them why they are keeping the money to themselves. Or asked their Congress rep why they didn’t approve the AJA. But some good should come out of this when the President starts looking at the companies in their area to find out why they aren’t hiring.
Jennifer has issues. She has a problem with 1% of our budget going to foreign aid. She has a problem with any foreign worker visas being issued. She says kids are discouraged to attend college because they see that a degree doesn’t necessarily guarantee employment or indemnify you from being laid off.
Her issues are with business. She should ask why businesses are using HB1 visas with such frequency. She should ask them why they aren’t hiring her husband when his skillset is in demand. The Llast time I checked the President doesn’t hire or layoff and this job trend preceded his 3 years. Jennifer’s irritability with the President over economic realities driven by businesses was in itself irritating.
Robney is desperate!
I hope Newt wins if only to tick Romney off.
Won’t happen, Newt isn’t on the ballot in five states, including his home state of Virginia. Mitt WILL be the nominee, but he will be incredibly weakened by Newt’s attacks.
Newt claims he’s taking it to the convention, but then so did John Edwards.
Did Edwards drop out when the scandal first came out, or did he drop out before that?
Long before.
I want Noot to win also. Romney is really feeling his oats. His crowds are larger but there isn’t any diversity. He may win primaries with that type of crowd, but he cannot win a general election. I heard Chuck Todd say that Romney need to work on getting his favorability numbers up.
“Romney need to work on getting his favorability numbers up.”
that’s not likely to happen. there isn’t anything favorable about him.
Even if it’s a tie, that’s as good as a loss for Romney because it still means that he hasn’t closed the deal with GOP voters.
Actually I’d say it’s the other way around… Gingrich went into Florida with his momentum from South Carolina, and then WASTED it by putting his foot in his mouth at the debates, especially with his “moon colony” fantasy. The REAL Newt is finally showing himself, the asshole jerk that got himself removed from the Speakership. Right now, it’s Newt who is in desperation mode, although he NEVER wanted the nomination to begin with.
Check the amount of money Robney has spent relative to Gingrich. It does not speak well for Romney that he has had to spend that amount of money just to ward off a loser like Newt. Gingrich won the racist teabagger vote in NC, not the GOP mainstream vote. So that wasn’t momentum as such. Romney still can’t close the gap, despite the left AND right MSM’s covering up for him, protecting him day-in and day-out.Romney should have wrapped up this nomination by now.
It doesn’t speak well of Newt to lose a HUGE lead over Mitt in Florida in just a matter of days. By all means if Mitt really is that weak against Newt, then Newt should have finished Mitt and maintained his FL lead, but once again Newt let his ego get the best of him. Newt is in full scale meltdown mode, and Mitt’s spending more than Newt is just adding fuel to the flames. Newt never intended for himself to be the nominee, just as Herman Cain, who endorsed him… birds of a feather…
I know. I see those dumbass ads every.fricking.day. I don’t even watch the lower stations. I watch fricking discovery and lifetime and bravo and Syfy and I fricking see those fuckers everywhere! Hate Willard. Bastard ruined my weekend with his stupid ads.
Jennifer did not offend me. Here you are wife of an unemployed husband asking the Pres some questions. She was nervous a bit whiny and then annoying but came to smile and joke and ask an inappropriate question to the leader of the free world, but damn he is gonna help her husband.
I bet she votes Democrat next time.
What I did love about the whole thing is that it was pretty conversational. I think more of this style of forum would be great so it doesn’t seem like he’s just skimming the surface with the usual responses.
She better.
I liked the conversation between them too, aamom. At least she learned something new and she’s gonna get help for her husband.
why did she ask the president to dance…
Whatever it is she truly thinks, her kids were speechless with excitement to be listening to President Obama, their faces were all lit up with astonishment. Tomorrow they get to go to school and be humiliated by their mother ‘s behavior while speaking to the President. The teachers will want to hear it all….. Could be some very interesting and positive response to this experience all over the country!
Regarding Jennifer and other questioners on foreign aid. It is not an either/or. The United States can give foreign aid AND invest heavily in this country. The GOP just wants you to think that we can’t.
When in fact they (The GOP) were the ones who have been sending billions of dollars overseas to corrupt dictators while demanding nothing from them.
No doubt Jennifer wrote a letter to W demanding to know why are we spending a $1 trillion in Iraq to develop that country when our own economy is suffering and P.S. could you do a jig and sing?, yours truly, Jennifer, this year’s Joe the Plumber.
Oh I was just about to ask if she was this year’s Joe the Plumber. Does she really have a husband who’s and engineer and out of work?
Cynical, I know
It remains to be seen if she’s this year’s Joe the Plumber but I don’t mind jumping the gun and I’ll be glad to be proven wrong. To me, she displayed all the characteristics of Joe the Plumber. No matter how the President answered, none of the responses were satisfactory. It’s not often that a President offers to forward a person’s resume to interested companies, yet Jennifer being the recipient of that grace still managed to come off as unsatisfied. She seemed to have an agenda of only expressing irritation and dissatisfaction with any of his responses.
Yes, all this finger waving, dog whistling (more like a claxon), bullet riddled tshirts and jig dance requests are eyerolling, offensive, infuriating and enraging but in some respect, imho, it is bringing to the surface (hopefully once and for all) all the deeply buried, rank, poisonous ignorance in this country so that it can be eradicated permanently. My apologies in advance for mangling the metaphor, but PBO–and all of us here at TOD–are the white hot sunshine to burn this disease off the fact of the earth. PRESSS ON!
sorry that should be “face of the earth”, not “fact”. ERK!
Go get ‘em, Tally!! LOLOL
Thank you Tally! I also set him straight.

AWESOME! Faved & RT’d!
I just replied to him too with some snark that he got “eviscerated” and told him to lay off the hyperbole.
@devindwyer. If you are going to pollute the twitterverse with your shit, learn the meaning of the word skewer. #dumbass. #fuckoff. #STFU…….Bastard.
**** don’t know nuthin’ bout twitter, but this is how I’d respond if i did.****
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Lisa how do you feel about this Devin guy? Please tell us..we don’t know.
Here you go Lisa –
OMG!!!!!! Wow! thanks, Tallz! that is awesome
Tallz, hope you don’t mind the Tallz. I figure it’s more informal and denotes affection.
Brilliant!
How smart is this? The Obama campaign reaches out to a major demographic:
Pet lovers for Obama
http://www.barackobama.com/news/entry/introducing-pet-lovers-for-obama
ha! sweet.
Something that I hear a lot and the high school kids brought it up was the whole student loan situation. Personally I feel that if the economy picks up and these youth who have graduated within the last few years are able to get good paying jobs then they won’t feel so pressed down by the student loan debt. I hear so many of these kids say that the Federal Gov’t should just forgive their debt because we are in a recession and the banks got bailed out so they should be as well.
It just seems so far fetched to me????
That would be awesome if that forgave our debt. It would never happen though
I think if you go into the public sector (Teach for America for example) your loans are forgiven but I’m not sure.
My husbands bosses daughter who graduated from UofMD said that she wished that the President had deferred student loan repayments for 5 years when he did the stimulus until the economy recovered. I’m not sure how student loan repayments work because I never had them and neither did my sons but I always thought that you didn’t start paying them until you got a job. Do you have to start paying as soon as you graduate?
They usually give you 6-9months to find a job (Stafford vs. Perkins loans).
There is loan forgiveness under some circumstances:
You also may qualify for forgiveness of some or all of your loan balance:
If you teach full-time for 5 years at a school or educational service agency serving low-income families and meet other requirements, or
After you have made 120 payments on a Direct Loan while employed in certain public service jobs (additional conditions apply).
http://studentaid.ed.gov/PORTALSWebApp/students/english/repaying.jsp
You can defer and apply for forbearance as many times as you need to via the Direct Loan website. Pres.Obama doesn’t need to do anything.
It took me almost 10 years, but I paid my school loans. The president and his admin. are working to make school more affordable (my students really liked that part of the SOTU) not free. They can get deferments while they work on advanced degrees or training (which I did), or they could become part of Teach for America that will pay their tuitions for 2 years of teaching, or some other things that they can look into. The banks got a bailout, but they paid the money back.
The deferments are definitely good. That has helped my family A LOT.
It took me over 10 years to pay off my debt—-working several jobs. The bailout for the banks are to be repaid with interest. I’m very sympathetic to costs now for college and there needs to be creative ways for all entities to keep costs low, but I’m honestly not feeling that line of argument about the federal gov’t forgiving all college debt.
I thought that students now only had to pay up to 10% of their salary toward student loans. I agree maybe loans in certain fields of work can be wiped out teachers/doctors in underserved areas, or even green technology/engineering. Loans in other, not as essential fields can be lessened through repayment based on salary. The real problem is as PBO stated, colleges need to find a way to keep cost down, instead of assuming these kids get loans so they don’t have to worry about cost. IF there were no loans, colleges wouldn’t charge as much. Also, states need to prioritize spending in their budgets for universities, so that the students don’t have to carry that burden.
There’s also a provision that a smaller percentage of the loan payment is paid based on your income.
Here’s an easy, high level discussion on the stimulative effects (or lack thereof) of forgiving student loan debt – there was also an NPR feature on this topic, but I can’t find it. The main point is that college students will likely not spend the money right away, so the stimulative effect is not nearly as effective as giving the money to the poor. Plus, it doesn’t really ripple through the economy like it would if the money was spent on the poor or through investments in infrastructure. So, in a nutshell, it’s not a good idea. Another good point that I’ve heard is that it’s not fair – what about the generation after the recession who get saddled with the student loan debt – should they be forgiven, too? I would love it if college was free for everyone – much better use of tax dollars than giving tax cuts to the rich. But, unless you’re going to forgive everyone for student loans, then it’s not really fair. Student loan debt is massive when consolidated ($1 trillion), but each individual student’s loan is not prohibitive.
http://www.freakonomics.com/2011/09/19/forgive-student-loans-worst-idea-ever/
This is confidence. Putting yourself out there, unscripted, with people who are allowed to ask what they will. He can and will answer anyone with that calm, thorough manner that serves him so well. The GOP candidate can bring it on. He has something waiting for them.
There are no words for how much that §ç√ñt pissed me off.
“Jig” – pfffft. Be gone with that.
WTF was wrong with that Jennifer lady?…and afterwards she’s gonna give PBO her husband’s resume?….he’s just too kind!
Given the exchange with Jennifer a lot of thought and I am still irked by it. There’s a way to challenge without being disrespectful. I understand her worries, but the President didn’t cause this situation and is doing all he can to change it. Who put the visa program in place? Bet it was the GOP.
And that request for a jig was just way over the line. No excuse for that.
The jig thing didn’t really offend me. It seems like she was just trying to be funny. PBO handled it gracefully.
He is always graceful which is why he is president and I am not.
exactly right. I could NEVER do what he does. I’d just walk away… (so as not to embarrass myself and have to ask my friends for bail money.
yeah. neither was I. I thought she was just trying to get a laugh and to see if he would sing again which would have been awesome if a bit inappropriate.
PBO’s sense of timing is immaculate. You probably won’t hear him sing again until way, way after the election – perhaps election night for the earliest when he’s about to give his victory speech!
O/T—- love that picture of PBO and Bo in the car. You can tell PBO is talking to Bo as they look out the window. Look how animated PBO’s face is!!!
You can tell he’s saying: “Look Bo. Look. There is the video store, there is the bookstore. and there’s the pet store!!! that’s where we’re going Bo! We’re gonna get you your Christmas bone! YAY!!!!” Bo was probably thinking: “Silly human! I miss my mommy! When are we going to see my mommy in Hawaii?!”

Lol, perfect.
True.
I think Bo was thinking: “How cool is this! I’m the only dog in the world who gets to ride in the Presidential limousine. I hope everyone sees me in here!” He’s a cutie.
Tally? I want you in the trenches with me!
Aren’t we glad she’s WITH TOD??? WHeeew, baby. Tally, go get ‘em!!!
I’m relieved isonprize!!! I couldn’t handle her being on the ‘other’ side!
Amen! Tally will have all our backs. Some Lefties I know would stab me in the back before they’d shoot the enemy. #noleftiefoxholes
Here’s the whole thing:
So after 4,000,000,000 views, is she going to be famous, and become a millionaire? You know what can happen to people when TOD posts a YouTube video!
I couldn’t view the President’s Youtube interview above from the W.H video, but here’s the full video for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet:
LOL timing! Thanks chips you can delete mine!
Ah ObamaBuilt2LastNZ, it was so good it deserved to be posted twice – at least!!!
Ed says PBO’s job approval rating is at 53% (Wapo) and 51% Rasmussen.
That was not correct. 53% is his favorable rating in the last ABC/WAPO Poll. His job approval was 48%.
But this poll was taken before the SOTU.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/behind-the-numbers/post/obamas-report-card-from-the-public/2012/01/03/gIQANAsAOQ_blog.html
Are you sure Ed is correct – are these really job approval or favorability ratings? Either way it’s still very good since the corresponding figures for Gingrich and Romney are much lower by double digits.
I think their people typed the wrong thing on the screen behind Ed. Ed even said job approval, I think. I made sure to read what the screen said and saw jobs which is why I immediately posted it cause earlier today, I saw a link that said his favorability is up. It’s just like that mistake Tweety made the other day with the numbers about who American’s blamed for the economy. He said some number for Bush and a huge number for PBO which didn’t add up 1) because of simple math. 2) because the numbers are pretty consistent for more blame for W.
When even the conservative Rasmussen…
So who the hell is Gallup polling?
The Chamber of Commerce?
Close friends and relatives of Romney, and Chuck Todd.
“Eye of the Tiger” composer sues Newt for using his song at campaign events:

good for him. They think the rules only apply for other people.
That JUST HAPPENED the other day with a song he used without authorization! WTH? Is he braindead??
Well, Sly Stallone is a Republican, so I’m sure Newt just assumed the composer would be on board. Hah!
And dammit, now I have “Eye of the Tiger” on a loop in my brain. Damn you, Gingrich!
Noooooooooooooooooooooo – me too!!!!

whew! got my soundtrack back!
He used Eye of the Tiger because he couldn’t find an appropo Eye of the Newt song.
Evening all. trying to catch up with todays post before watching the goggle town hall. Loved the commentary.
If billionaire Adelson continues to bankroll him, Gingrich vows to fight to the bitter end:
“[Gingrich poltical director Martin] Baker said even a Romney win in Florida will give him just 7 percent of the delegates needed to claim the nomination. The next contest after Florida will be Nevada on Saturday, followed by Minnesota, Colorado and Missouri on February 7.
“There is a long way to go before either candidate clinches the nomination, and this campaign will continue for months,” he said. “The campaign is shifting to a new phase where opportunities are not limited to a single state.”
Talking to reporters on Monday, Romney noted Gingrich’s growing interest in the campaign’s long haul.
“That’s usually an indication that you think you’re gonna lose. When you say ‘I’m gonna go on no matter what happens,’ that’s usually not a good sign,” Romney said.”

Whatever Mitt. Ya’ll just keep hitting each other. The harder, the better.
Let Willard be cocky. This is the closest he’ll ever be to the presidency.
After watching the youtube video above w/PBO, is it possible for the President or any President to be any cooler?
I don’t have to wait for the answer–b/c the answer is a resounding NO!
Also, the Muppets video is too funny…
Tweety is a mighty piece of work. He puts up the numbers for PBO’s support among Dems (80%) vs Repubs (12%), and concludes that the electorate is more polarized than it has ever been.
Well Mr. Matthews, didn’t it occur to you that the percentage of folks who now identify as openly as Repubs has shrunk – with most switching to “Independent” affliation? What you have left is a small but Rabid GOP base who will NEVER support PBO no matter how well he’s doing. Obama’s base on the other hand is unified behind him. Perhaps the problem is the GOP with it’s civil war, with Teabagger, evangelical, corporatist factions elbowing each other for relevancy while imploding at the same time.
Tweety is a fool who’s exceeded his sell-by date.
I heard Tweety say that abput PBO’s numbers, and I could not believe what I heard. I have to say that his “Let me finish” was spot on when it comes to nasty Noot getting revenge in the end with Romney. Noot is not going away quietly. Just think this is just the beginning. Tweety says that nasty Noot will stick around just for revenge on the vile liar.
Oops, I meant “about”.
what about the 80% of the ‘base’ that hates willard ? tweety is a fucking moran.
Melissa Harris Perry basically saying that it smells like desperation on the repug side because of all the disrespect they are lobbing at PBO i.e: Freakshow Brewer and Rancid Pubis.
WOW PBO AND HIS TEAM IS PUSHING THE ENVELOPE FOR TECHNOLOGY! WHAT A WONDERFUL THING!
http://bobcesca.com/blog-archives/2012/01/infographic-of-the-day-2.html I think this needs to be seen by everyone!!!

Most Republican voters don’t like these guys either:
“A new survey shows growing dissatisfaction among Republican voters of the field of current GOP presidential candidates. 52% of respondents in the Pew Research Center poll gave a “fair or poor” description of the potential nominee field – an eight percentage-point increase from early January. 46% of respondents now rate the field as “excellent or good”, a drop from the 51% mark.”

IM WATCHING THIS GOOGLE HANGOUT AND IT’S AWESOME! FIRST OF ITS KIND! NO OTHER PRESIDENT HAS DONE THIS!
I’m so proud to call this man my President. I wish he could serve a 3rd term but out of respect for his need for rest, privacy, more quality time spent with his family, etc. I will be okay with another good Democratic President.
Hopefruit, it’s so amazing how accessible he is, how open he is, how much he loves helping people and trying to find solutions. He’s not afraid to answer questions from the people. UNLIKE ROBNEY, who’s scared as shit, and who need advisers to prop him up per the NYT yesterday. He’s got NOTHING on PBO.
From Bob Cesca’s Awesome Blog! Go! (I just like typing out the blog’s name. I know you guys know what it is. It makes me feel very Thunderbirds.)

I love listening to his soothing baritone in my headphones. Watching the interview again

Let’s try this:
Oh, that’s not good, not good at all. Mittens has to be the most inept presidential candidate ever. Sure, Bush II was an idiot, but he had a ruthless machine behind him. This crop of candidates? Not so much.
Thanks LL for reposting!
Yet Robney’s attorney tries to act as though there is absolutely nothing wrong with that picture just because it was “legit” to do so.
So all the while he’s bitching about “European style socialism” this cretin, this bottom of the barrel, scum sucking, epic douchebag of a bottom feeder was betting against the dollar. You want to be the bloody President of the United States and you’re betting against the dollar? What kind of unpatriotic BS is that? As more and more shady stuff comes out about Bain and Romney’s financial disclosure forms, the more this sinks him. It’s going to feel soooooooooooooo good crushing this a-hole come Nov. 6, 2012.
Oh, UT, I love your style. That’s just about the pithiest sum up of Willard I’ve seen. This stuff needs to go a lot further than Think Progress. Needs lots of wide spread ad distribution–it would turn a lot of people off.
Joan says her dog Sadie is a member of Dogs Against Romney. hahahahahahahhahhahhahahaha. Best darned thing I’ve ever heard out of her fool mouth.
My cat is a member of C.(cats) A.(Against) T.(Teaparty) S.(Slobs) and has joined forces with Doggs Against Romney.
So is she saying her dog is smarter than she is?
To quote Mr. Don Henley:

I haven’t seen HZ, Joan, Sue in Minnesota or Fred for a while. Hope they are doing okay. We miss them and hope to see them soon again.
I was just thinking about them. I don’t comment much but I do read and had noticed HZ and Sue hadn’t been around. And Joan and Fred. They are in my prayers.
And Bill Burton says that 100′s of millions of dollars will be spent on vile negative ads against Obama. It will be horrifically ugly, the worst ever by far. There’s no word powerful enough for me to express my opinion of the Citizens United decision. Nothing has ever been more damaging to this country.
I’m so not looking forward to this.
They can spend Trillions..as far as I am concerned…..Remember in 2008..They ran :Jeremiah Wright…they Ayers..and Palling around with Terrorist.lol we know they can’t use that, The Birthers..All that BS is old news and people will be turned off. President Obama has an excellent record..and it will be hard to argue with facts.
Yes, they have the money but there’s a real danger in these antics if they keep carrying on this way. More and more people are starting to see and feel the terrible smears and they view them as unwarranted and unnecessary and not befitting our election. I believe there will be a strong backlash. I truly think one of the reasons Meg Whitman lost in CA, among her many other problems, is that people were completely sick of her nasty ads running day and night, several times an hour.
Correct:) On another note, someone posted your art site on here yesterday…BEAUTIFUL! You are a marvelous artist…beautiful work:)
My daughter is quite the artist…I had no idea she could draw the way she does. I saw a drawing in her room one day and asked her if she traced it….she was shocked and told me that she drew it.My jaw dropped. I knew then that she had a gift…just like you do.I saw MANY pieces of yours that I would love to have:) One day.
IF YOU WATCHED THE PRESIDENT ABOVE, WE HAVE THE BEST MESSENGER TO WIN! DESPITE THE FACST ROBNEY AND HIS BILLIONARIES WILL TRY TO SMEAR PBO, WE MUSTNT LET UP! PBO WILL BE OUT THERE EVERYDAY FIGHTING! HE AND HIS TEAM AND WE CAN DO IT!

Tennessee Restaurant Throws Out Anti-Gay Lawmaker
I just posted a “thank you” on her FB page. As much as I am embarrassed by Stacey Campfield–thank God he isn’t my rep–I feel renewed by her actions. So proud of her!
I am watching Jennifer Granholm.
Wow- she is interviewing Liz Warren and then taking a tour of the war room OFA in Chicago.
Nice.
And an interview with Robert Gibbs.
Is she cool, or what?
Just Wow!! just got through watching YouTube interview…We have and Awesome President..leaving the media behind by going straight to the people… Just love him…he’s really utilizing all the technology available and surrounds himself with some high tech folks.
and Loved the ” I Bark for Obama” lol…just adorable all around…GO TEAM OBAMA!!!!! You had the most organized campaign in history in 2008…and 2012 is exceeding all my expectations.
I just browsed through “Pet Lovers for Obama”…they already have over 7000 followers
Thank you Chips for posting the video:-) and for all you do.
Viva Obama!!!
oops it should say “I Bark for Barack”…..lol silly me….got Obama in my mind….
God, if Tweety could just stay on message, he’d be a valuable asset to liberals. Here’s Tweety’s “Let me finish” from today.
The words of the Bard — and I mean Shakespeare, not any of the supposed “real” authors of the Works:
Go Newt! Pay kind for kind.
From Tweety’s beak to god’s ears. Hell hath no fury and all that. O/T LL, WHAT’S FOR DINNER??
LOL. I’m not cooking tonight. Wife is making Salisbury steak and mashed taters. I’m making the gimlets.
please educate me: why the nickname ‘tweety’?
Because he has yellow-ish hair with a Tweety shaped head. Also he spits a lot lol.
oh! thanks!
SERIOUS QUESTION: IS THERE SOME CHATROOM ALL THESE RON PAUL PEOPLE GO TO WHERE THEY DECIDE TO INVADE ALL OF PBO’S VIDEOS?!
‘special interest’ group’s super pac money is funding nearly half the campaign ads in the repug primary so far, up from 3% in 2008. in florida, there’ve been over 6900 airings of super pac funded ads for romney alone!

THE BENEFITS OF LOBBYING (aka INFLUENCE PEDDLING) FOR NEWT & WILLARD
Rache Maddow jus did an excellent segment on this article in Mother Jones about Bain Capital lobbying for lower taxes. She also played a video of Joh Stewart eviscerating lobbying and the hypocrisy of the Republican Party.
How Bain’s Lobbying Saved Mitt Millions
================================
With the sting of defeat in the South Carolina primary still fresh at last week’s Republican presidential debate in Tampa, Mitt Romney slammed Newt Gingrich for his record as a consultant—or “historian,” in Newt-speak—for government mortgage-backer Freddie Mac.
But perhaps Romney should think twice before setting his sights on the former speaker’s lobbying-related past. That’s because the ex-governor has benefited handsomely from the influence-peddling of Bain Capital, the private equity firm he cofounded in 1983. Though he’s been gone from Bain for over a decade, Romney continues to rake in millions from accounts with the firm—and in 2007, he took Bain’s side in a key lobbying battle with Washington—one that saved him millions of dollars.

Awesomeness. I wrote her and Boxer about HSR in CA in October.
Governor Brown still supports it, that is huge.
I guess Senstor Boxer?
Well, the Guatdian did a article on that chick Jennifer from Today-
http://m.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/jan/31/obama-unemployed-engineer-video-hangout?cat=world&type=article
Oh boy, I just hope she isn’t being booked on the Today Show tomorrow to explain to Ann Curry what it was like to participate in the Google Hangout Interview with President Obama (snark).
Interesting they selected her and no one else to report on. Wonder whether she was a GOP plant. The President asked her to have her husband send him the resume for a reason. He doesn’t fully buy her story, but is giving her the benefit of the doubt. We will know soon enough what the deal is.
Chip-
You have got to get Jennifer Granholms video of the war room in Chicago. OFA is amazingly high tech.
Wow.
And Jennifers show rocks!
That is all!
What happened to KO? Didn’t see him while surfing.
Thanks Jovie, missed it, will look it up. You’re a star
The look on Laura’s face says it all.

Is john cusack an emoprog gg fanboy? I see a lot of twitter pushback against him today.
Oh, amk, say it ain’t so. Cusack’s one of my favorite actors.
I’m surprised too LL. I remember him as an obot in 2008. Shoq is pushing back crazy against him. I don’t know what started it.
New post everyone:

Okay- Jennifer Granholms show is very impressive.
She did great her first night.
Thx jovie. Good to know she’s not going olbermannesque.
I want to thank Chips, TODers, POTUS, FLOTUS (… yep, getting into the spirit of the Academy Awards!) but, the awards for our sanity belong to CHIPS, and fab TODers! Yay! We need a virtual ovation right here!
I so wanted to see the Google Interview, and knew, {YES!!} Chips would have it snappity-snap, plus all the amazing, informative comments from my TODers. Bless! Amazing interview.
And guess what, I haven’t hit the CERB button for 5 days! Almost did today, but there was so much lovely news on TOD! Keep CERB there, Chips, one never knows when the @#$%! Species will try to crawl through the sewer and into our teevees. Thank you, thank you very much!
On another note, can anyone tell me when is the public Inauguration Day? Reason I’m asking is that Jan 20th is a Sunday; the next day is MLK, Jan 21. Fed Rules say “next succeeding day” but MLK is a Fed holiday. (How cool is that?) So is it Tues 22?
