smart

Yahoo: The campaign team that pioneered an iPhone app for volunteer recruitment and get-out-the-vote efforts for President Obama in 2008 is out with a new tool aimed at tapping into more cash in 2012:  the Obama Victory Fund mobile phone credit card donations app, with swipe attachment.

…. Organizers equipped with the small, 1-inch square attachment that plugs into a smart phone will be able to accept credit card swipes from donors, whose information will be automatically entered into the campaign’s database through the software interface downloaded on the phone.

“The idea is that if you’re at a house party or in daily interactions – at a grocery store shopping – and someone sees your Obama for America button and wants to talk to you about the campaign, you can ask for a donation and accept it right then and there,” the aide said.

The tool will be made widely available this spring, when supporters will be able to download the free app in the Apple iTunes store and obtain the swipe attachment.

JoJo. Yeah baby! Plus, no one seems to remember “Cash for Clunkers” That program was great! I know plenty of folks who upgraded and got some serious hoopties off the street.

I remember cash for clunkers–it was Van Jones’ idea and any car dealer that doesn’t vote for PBO is a fool.

“But thanks to the accountable care organizations provided for by the health care reform act, a new system is on its way, one that will make insurance companies unnecessary. Accountable care organizations will increase coordination of patient’s care and shift the focus of medicine away from treating sickness and toward keeping people healthy.”

Score another one for the ACA. I think some hospitals in Michigan have entered a pilot program to test ways to switch a new model of health care.

In all our collective lifetimes, I don’t think we’ve ever seen such a juggernaut of a campaign team. They are tapped into every market. Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, Google +, Youtube. They hire seasoned and new campaign staff so that they cover all spectrums of the voting public. They hire young, hip software engineers who create easy to use websites, use coding software to tap into the minds and hearts of donors, micro-target all sorts of voters and appeal to them on a laser focused individual level. They have campaign items for pets, humans, students, cooks, fashionistas and everything/everyone in between. They make sure to tap into new fangled technology that appeals to young voters and also maintain traditional forms of communication for older voters. They have campaign surrogates who use traditional media to reach voters but also circumvent the media firewall by having twitter accounts so voters can connect with them on a more personal level and in a faster time frame. They have an organized ground game that blows the other side out of the water. They use all sorts of avenues to raise money hand over fist.

Wow. This is beyond 21st century style of campaigning. PBO has turned campaigning for office – whatever office – into a living, breathing multi-dimensional tour de force.
