Wow, did you see what he said about the Pensions at American Airlines and the fact that AA hired Bain Capital at $14,000,000 a month to cut employees? That’s more than what they paid into the employees pension, they are trying to stick the american people with the AA employees pension like Bain has done to so many companies. I hope this is repeated news throughout the year to take down Robme. These SOB’s are greedy blood suckers, they are worst than vampires.

Excellent takedown. It’s amazing that people in this country have been voting for these scoundrels and these scandalous robberies of working people for generations. Over and over, voting for republicans who have been robbing them blind. SMDH. Wonder if they’ll wake up now.

FLOTUS came to L.A. and kick ass. As I keep saying and I will continue to say this is why the right wing attacks her, because they see that she is a people person, that she relates to people, and she can relate to women. Don’t you think that women listen to her when she said that her husband sing to her all the time. Are when she talks of her husband behavior as he sees his little girl starting to become a young lady. When the right tries to say he’s this and he’s that. No FLOTUS comes out and says he’s just like lots of husbands and fathers out there. Bless the Obama family. 4 more years.

    SELF-DEPORTATION IS A “JOKE”

Rachel Maddow just did an interview with Lalo Alcaraz a “comedian” who made up the term ‘SELF-DEPORATION’. That’s right, self-deportation is A JOKE. Someone should have told Willard. We are going full speed down the rabbit hole with this one. You can’t make this stuff up. Rachel referred to a New York Times article about the topic today.

OK, did go back to my teevee & watch Lawrence. In bits & pieces.

One thing tho that I did learn was the person who heads PBGC is appointed by the president. [PBGC is the govt. entity that makes sure employers don't mess w/ your pension plans.] Our POTUS-appointed head of PGBC is Joshua Gotbaum, who has been kicking butt w/ American Airlines, for one, because they were tryiing to basically screw pension holders. Imagine that! And guess who AA hired to “restructure” & get thru bankruptcy protection? Or whatever lingua is used for those in IRS-precarious zones. Anyway, you guessed it … BAIN! [Feel free to holler in CAPS just about now!] AA paid, according to Lawrence, $14M/month (yes, that’s $14-million-per-month — cos corporations are people too, dontcha know?) to Bain for the pleasure of gutting AA pension plans. [OK go ahead & CAPS-HOLLER again, I did!] Guess their expertise isn’t limited to factories. I’m sure someone in TOD can explain the PBGC issue better than I, but it seems to involve some off-shore shady-shadies. So Mr. Gotbaum came along & said, “I don’t think so.”

So, AA employees and everyone out there with a pension plan, are you paying atttention now? Are you going to vote against your own interests?

Hooh-boy, I think God’s getting mighty tired of Ugly.

BREAKING: Washington State Senate Passes Marriage Equality

    http://thinkprogress.org/lgbt/2012/02/01/416997/breaking-washington-state-senate-passes-marriage-equality/

“A little more than an hour ago, a bipartisan group of Washington State Senators voted 28-21 in favor of marriage equality. The state senate was widely seen as the biggest hurdle to marriage equality and passage by the state house should follow. Gov. Christine Gregoire (D) urged the state house to pass the bill so she could sign it immediately:

Tonight the Washington State Senate stood up for what is right and told all families in our state that they are equal and that the state cannot be in the business of discrimination. I believe that this decision should be made by our state Legislature, and I’m proud our elected leaders recognized that responsibility…

…Opponents of marriage equality have vowed to seek the 120,000-plus signatures necessary to force a statewide referendum on the measure.”

Anti-Gay Group Calls For Boycott Of JC Penny Over Ellen DeGeneres Partnership

    http://thinkprogress.org/lgbt/2012/02/01/416430/anti-gay-group-calls-for-boycott-of-jc-penny-over-ellen-degeneres-partnership/

“JoeMyGod notices that the American Family Association’s “One Million Moms” is now targeting JC Penny for partnering with the openly-gay comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, claiming that the store is undermining “traditional families”:

Recently JC Penney announced that comedian Ellen Degeneres will be the company’s new spokesperson. Funny that JC Penney thinks hiring an open homosexual spokesperson will help their business when most of their customers are traditional families. More sales will be lost than gained unless they replace their spokesperson quickly. Unless JC Penney decides to be neutral in the culture war then their brand transformation will be unsuccessful.

Their marketing strategy is to help families shop and receive a good value for their money. Degeneres is not a true representation of the type of families that shop at their store. The majority of JC Penney shoppers will be offended and choose to no longer shop there. The small percentage of customers they are attempting to satisfy will not offset their loss in sales. [...]

By jumping on the pro-gay bandwagon, JC Penney is attempting to gain a new target market and in the process will lose customers with traditional values that have been faithful to them over all these years…”

Healthy food and gardening champion, First Lady Michelle Obama’s influence even touches White House Chef Cristeta Comerford’s home!
    —————
Chef Cristeta Comerford credits Obamas with change in White House food

    http://www.thegrio.com/health/chef-cristeta-comerford-credits-obamas-with-change-in-white-house-food.php

“WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House has fully embraced one of eating’s hottest trends — seasonal cooking with ingredients grown at home.

Presidential chef Cristeta Comerford credits the change in the food coming from the White House’s kitchen to Michelle Obama’s decision in 2009 to start a garden on the South Lawn as part of her Let’s Move campaign to encourage kids to eat healthier.

Comerford acknowledges the White House menus now are a lot different from those in the mid-1990s, when she first started working there during the Clinton administration. President George W. Bush appointed her executive chef during his second term, and the Obamas kept her on when they arrived.

“The White House kitchen has really evolved tremendously in a positive way, having a garden out there,” Comerford said in an interview with The Associated Press. “It really has focused me on reworking my menu based on seasonality.”

Comerford says the garden has also inspired her in her own home, where she planted a plot and she and her 10-year-old daughter, Danielle, cook together. Comerford herself lost 15 pounds last year.

Cooking with kids is the subject of a new Prevention Magazine initiative that encourages parents to bring kids into the kitchen. Michelle Obama taped a message for the magazine’s website endorsing the effort and Comerford shared a vegetable pizza recipe as an example of a fun meal to cook with children.

Comerford says her daughter is fascinated by the home garden, where she can clip her own herbs in the summer instead of going to the grocery store.

“She’ll say, ‘Mom, I don’t think you have enough broccoli on your plate,'” Comerford said.”

This is not particularly political, except on the most tangential level, but I’m posting it anyway ‘cuz it’s just a TOTALLY COOL story:

    11-year-old entrepreneur creates eco-friendly clothes

    http://www.thegrio.com/local/atlanta/11-year-old-entrepreneur-creates-eco-friendly-clothes.php

    ———————————————————–

ATLANTA: An 11-year-old girl from the metro Atlanta area has turned her passion for making clothing into a successful online business. The pre-teen entrepreneur designs handmade eco-friendly garments and accessories that are sold on her website to customers across the globe.

Maya Penn, CEO and owner of her own online company called Maya’s Ideas, set up the business when she was just eight-years-old. She joined the online crafts store Etsy in 2007 and spent a year coming up with ideas for her own shop.

The home-schooled seventh-grader from Canton, Georgia, says when she’s not studying she spends much of her time working on designs in her studio. “It kind of depends on what my schedule is, but I like to be in here because I like to create new items and it’s really fun for me,” said Penn in an interview with FOX 5 Atlanta.

“I always loved to find fabrics around the house and say well, this might make a good headband or a good hat or something and then I thought one day I thought I could probably make a shop.”

Indeed, her business is gaining a growing reputation. Not only does Maya write a blog about her experiences, which includes her love of animation, but she recently featured on a Forbes.com list of talented grade school entrepreneurs.

How Swedes and Norwegians Broke the Power of the “One Percent”

    http://www.truth-out.org/how-swedes-and-norwegians-broke-power-one-percent/1327942221

While many of us are working to ensure that the Occupy movement will have a lasting impact, it’s worthwhile to consider other countries where masses of people succeeded in nonviolently bringing about a high degree of democracy and economic justice. Sweden and Norway, for example, both experienced a major power shift in the 1930s after prolonged nonviolent struggle. They “fired” the top 1 percent of people who set the direction for society and created the basis for something different…

Afghanistan: Leon Panetta signals end to US combat role

The US will seek to wind down combat operations in Afghanistan during 2013, more than a year before a deadline for withdrawal, the defence secretary says.

Speaking while travelling to a Nato summit, Leon Panetta said the US hoped to switch to a role training and supporting Afghan forces.

His comments are the first time a senior US official has given a timetable for transition.

Some 68,000 troops are due to remain in Afghanistan after the end of 2012.

There are currently some 99,000 US troops in the country, with 22,000 scheduled to return home during this year.

Until now, though, there had been now word on how the Pentagon planned to manage the main bulk of the drawdown, committing only to a full withdrawal of troops by the end of 2014.

“Hopefully by mid- to the latter part of 2013 we’ll be able to make a transition from a combat role to a training, advice and assist role,” Mr Panetta said en route to Brussels, site of the Nato summit.
